A Mindful Ritual to RedefineNew Year's Resolutions in 2025.
Set Meaningful Intentions, boost Accountability and Embrace

(01:13):
Personal Reflection for aTransformative New Year.
Traditions and rituals areimportant not just for creating
healthy habits, but forcultivating mindfulness as well.
This ritual of naming my yearis something I've shared with
friends for over two decades.
Sometimes the name arrivesmonths ahead of time time and
sometimes not until January 1st,but I always give each year a
name.
The name serves severalpurposes, although it's mainly a

(01:35):
tool for setting my intentions.
Instead of traditional NewYear's resolutions, I reflect on
the shape I'd like the comingyear to take, jot down my goals
and choose a pseudonym thatneatly captures my hopes and
dreams.
Following are some of my pastyear names, including recent
ones 2010,.
The year of nobody fucks with alion.
2011,.

(01:56):
The year of awesome.
2012,.
The year of roots.
2013,.
The year of the goldenbutterfly.
2014,.
The year of the grinning tiger.
2015,.
The year of the rainbowbutterfly.
Unicorn kitty.
2016,.
Year of the unchained heart.
2017, the year of the vibrantnesting doll.

(02:18):
2018, year of the wild monk.
2019, year of reflectiveshadows year of the wild monk
2019 year of reflective shadows.
2020 year of the helping handyear.
2021 year of walking withgiants.
2022 the year of the magical mrmifsud.
2023 year of dream caterpillarsand manifest butterflies.

(02:41):
Last year, 2024, was year ofthe king of happiness and this
year is 2025, the year of theilluminated path.
In the year of the grinningtiger, for instance, I was
moving to India and wanted tofocus on cultivating happiness.
In the year of the wild monk,my goals revolved around daily
meditation and taking bold leapsof faith.
For the year of the rainbowbutterfly, unicorn kitty well,

(03:05):
that one speaks for itself.
I wanted to approach life withcolorful, creative energy.
Once I choose my name, I shareit with my friends.
This is my way of creatingaccountability.
There are several ways you cando this, but I like to reach out
to a group of close buddies.
Over time, our monthlycheck-ins have become a support
system that inspires us andkeeps us focused.

(03:25):
As we all know, good habitsbeget good habits.
I also practice monthlyreflections on my year's name
and purpose.
At the end of each month, I doa quick recap of my progress to
see if I'm sticking to thespirit of my chosen name.
If I'm falling short, I try tofigure out why Do I need help or
motivation?
Were my goals too simple or tooambitious?
If I didn't have the rightresources, can I pivot and seek

(03:51):
them out?
It's important to stay open tohow life often unfolds in ways
we never predict.
The name I choose might end uprevealing a new aspect of itself
over the course of the year.
Take 2020, for example.
I initially expected to be thehelping hand in the year of the
helping hand, but as thepandemic unfolded, it was people
everywhere extending help on aglobal scale.
My name is still fitting, butits interpretation had to evolve
.
So, as we move into 2025, Iencourage you to name your own

(04:13):
year.
Make it creative, meaningfuland personal.
See what a simple ritual likethis can bring to your life.
Share what you name your yearin the comments and let me know
if you have any new year ritualsof your own.
All right, and that's thisweek's episode of the Press
Start Leadership Podcast.
