Speaker 1 (00:01):
Straw Hut Media.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
There's murder and so much going on. School dances right,
yea important things in prison, you know, exactly, like just every.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
Other day, another Tuesday.

Speaker 4 (00:19):
Hi, I'm Caitlin McDaniel and welcome back to the Pride Podcast.
I'm so excited happy Pride Month. I hope we're all
having a great kickoff. I'm already exhausted. I will say
Pride is the busiest, busiest time, but it's also the
happiest time, so hopefully everyone is going to festivals.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Shaking their booties.

Speaker 4 (00:42):
I went to Weho Pride, which was fun. I don't
think I've been before, and there were some really great performances.
We walked around and just took que pictures of lots
of dogs.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
In chew choos.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
That's a big It's a big thing at Pride, dogs
in chew choos, So if you don't go for anything else,
go for that. But also Paris Hilton performed and she
reposted us on Instagram, So that is my current Pride
Month claim to fame.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
It was it was really.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
Hot, so hopefully you're all having a great Pride Month
as well. I'm so excited for my guests that I'm
going to be bringing on the podcast this month.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
It's going to be a great, great time. We're going
to talk about.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
All kinds of queer joy, especially with this episode that
I'm bringing you today, which is with the casts of
Ginny and Georgia on Netflix. They're going into their third
season and it's the gayest one yet. I have actual
proof of most of the cast new creators saying that
it is the gayest one.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
So if you don't believe me, talk to them. But
it is.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
It's already out on Netflix, the third season, and I
know everyone is very excited because of the cliffhanger that
we left off on on season two. Spoiler alert, she
got a rest at her wedding for murder. So if
you haven't seen the show, that's what you have going
for it. I was not on the Ginny and Georgia

(02:09):
train to begin with when the show first launched, not
because I didn't like it, but because, like most things,
I was just late to the game. I hadn't watched
it from right when season one started. I feel that
that is a trend in most of my life is
just feeling late. I should be early because I watch
a lot of TV. I do a lot of coverage.

(02:30):
I should be early, but I always end up feeling late.
There's just so much to cover. But don't tell my
boss that. So the show is really great. I jumped in.
It really swept me off my feet with how deep
it was because there's like this whole murder thing going on,
but then they're also it really dives into mental health,
which I really appreciate. It also dives into mother daughter

(02:53):
relationships and how much that influence is your day to
day life if you can change from how you were raised.
It like, it's it's really crazy, honestly. And then obviously,
of course it has some queer characters in it. I
will say too that the main queer character that everyone
knows and loves well I think loves is Max. And

(03:15):
when I was talking to Sarah waste Glass, who plays her,
I found out that there's a lot of hate.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
That she's getting for this character.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
And so I just would like to say that during
Pride Month that will not be tolerated. You cannot attack
the only queer characters, so that will be homophobic.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
But we do tackle that.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
She is a great spirit about handling the haters. So
we're gonna dive into all of that. We're also again
gonna talk about mental health. The show really shows that
everyone would benefit from therapy, and I truly believe that
everyone should go to therapy. We're all just humans. That
being said, I am in the market for a new therapist,

(03:55):
so if anyone has one in mind, let me know.
In La for a bly, do as I say, not
as I do, go to therapy. Everyone in this show
needs extensive therapy and then maybe maybe they could have
some normalcy. It's still questionable. But we got to talk
all of the cast about their characters, the queerness, everything.

(04:19):
It was so wonderful. So I got to talk to Felix, Mallard,
Antonio Gentry, Brian Howie, Sarah waste Glass, all of them
are great. I got to really dive into season three.
We talk secrets as well, so if you haven't seen it,
prepare for that before going into this and without further ado,

(04:39):
let's dive into the interviews.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
He will look amazing. Thank you. I'm a huge fan
of season three.

Speaker 5 (05:00):
I was so excited when I got to watch it
all and I can't wait for everyone.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
To see it. So congratulations on that.

Speaker 6 (05:06):
Thank you.

Speaker 5 (05:07):
One of the big themes I feel of Ginny and
Georgia is really just that we could all benefit from
a little therapy, a little help, you know, like absolutely,
and as like a big supporter of therapy, I love
to see that like representation in a show, even though
the show is still is so fun and has so
much going on, but there's like those undertones. So, Felix,

(05:28):
I wanted to go to you since your character is
really tackling a lot this season and just what it
means to bring that to light and how difficult it
is to tackle.

Speaker 7 (05:37):
Yeah, I mean, it's an it's an honor and it's
a privilege to be able to advocate for mental health
and to be able to be an example I think,
you know, not not be an example, but like just
to show an emotional journey for a young man, like
we don't see too much of that vulnerability shown on screen,
and to be able to highlight that and hopefully be

(05:58):
an advocate for people to try and help themselves and
give themselves the tools to deal with emotions that might
feel like they're on top of you.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
That's always the goal, and it's a.

Speaker 7 (06:07):
Really big responsibility that I hope resonates with people. It's
like you know, these big emotions and these big feelings
that you have professionally as an actor, it's the biggest
joy you can have.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
You know, you want your character to be in a
bit of strife.

Speaker 7 (06:22):
You want them to be going through something, so you
can go somewhere and hopefully your character can grow and
change and you can kind of foster that through. But then,
you know, secondary it has a social kind of element
where a lot of people watch this show, which is
terrifying but also a great responsibility at the same time
is that hopefully we can help people.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
I love that.

Speaker 5 (06:42):
I love that You're like, I want the characters dark,
like I want it.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Absolutely, they're going through stuff for sure.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
I mean it makes sense, right, Like that's how you
really dive deep and get to explore more. And you
mentioned just like the incredible fan base that this show has,
and I wanted to go to you, Sarah, because obviously
Max is a queer icon that everyone loves.

Speaker 5 (07:03):
So what has been like the fan reactions to that,
and like, do you have any like stories of people
just coming to you and being like, I love seeing
this character.

Speaker 8 (07:11):
I think my favorite thing about playing Max is that
being part of the queer community is a huge part
of her identity, and it doesn't really define her in
a way like she it's not a coming out story.
It's it's a I am who I am. I'm proud
and I'm happy. So I love that. And I get

(07:31):
a lot of messages from little girls saying you made
me feel comfortable to be myself. And that is if
I can do that for one person, that feels like
I've done something incredible for the rest of my life
and I can die a happy woman. But yeah, messages
like that are so meaningful and I love it.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (07:48):
No, And I love that you also are able to tackle,
you know, the hate that people can get.

Speaker 5 (07:52):
I sell you posting videos just being like, thanks for
hating my character.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Keep watching.

Speaker 8 (07:57):
Hey they're still watching. You're giving us views.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Like it's like, that's not my business.

Speaker 5 (08:03):
The show also tackles secrets, so I wanted to ask
you both, what's a secret?

Speaker 2 (08:09):
Deepest?

Speaker 5 (08:12):
Who from the cast do you think is the best
at keeping secrets.

Speaker 8 (08:15):
And the worst worst at keeping secrets? It's probably us
or Diesel best at keeping secrets, probably Katie, Katie, I
would say Katie.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
I would say Katie.

Speaker 9 (08:27):
She just seems like.

Speaker 8 (08:27):
A little vault or break. I feel like everybody's so
good at everything.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
I feel like being an actor you kind of have to.

Speaker 8 (08:34):
Have that except I can't lie.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Oh okay, I actually can't lie.

Speaker 8 (08:38):
I'm like I'm in real life. I am so bad
at lying, like everyone always knows. It's kind of hilarious.
I guess it's just because I'm like so vulnerable in
all my moles.

Speaker 5 (08:52):
Do you have any like twin telepathy that you've developed
where you can keep secrets together?

Speaker 2 (08:56):
Just can you talk to each other on set?

Speaker 1 (08:58):
Absolutely? I thought you were going to say no. I
feel we did the like how well do you know
your costmates this morning? And like you were just.

Speaker 7 (09:07):
Niling it and then me and Tony just shut down.
I think between us we had a quarter of a
brain working, So I think, I mean when we're on
set though, like and it's a and it's a long
slog of a day, I feel like there have been
a lot of looks and we had like games to
get through the season of just like little moments like.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
I don't even know how to how you describe that.

Speaker 8 (09:31):
It was just it was silliness. We like took in
the environment around us and we made jokes about it,
and we made games out of it, and it kept
us happy and energetic, and that was something very important
to character.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
I mean, you've got to use that to balance out
the dark.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
Absolutely, congrats on season three.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
I'm excited. Thank you so much. It was so amazing
to watch. Everyone I know is so jealous. They all
can't wait a clipper of season two.

Speaker 5 (10:11):
Everyone's like, you have it.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
It just became so popular. But going into the show,
I feel like a running theme it is that we
could all benefit from a little bit of therapy, right, Yeah,
you know, I feel like that just is really is
really strong. So Adrian and I wanted to go to
you and just talk about like how this show tackles

(10:34):
mental health with especially with how it affects your loved
ones and what that.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Means to you.

Speaker 10 (10:38):
Absolutely, the show works very closely with Mental Health America
to sift through all of the scripts and make sure
that we are doing our due diligence and being responsible
and respectful. And one of the things that I love
about the show, and Tony mentioned this earlier, that every
character is going through their own mental health crisis in

(10:59):
a way, and that it looks very different on everyone
and I think it's important to see a how different
it could look, how much it can affect your family,
It can affect your work, it can affect everything. I mean,
even with the character of Gil, how psychologically he affects
this whole family. So these are ties that are really
hard to cut. And I love that the show is

(11:23):
starting conversations surrounding generational trauma and kind of breaking some
of these cycles.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Absolutely.

Speaker 6 (11:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (11:29):
And then I mean this season too explores depression, Like
there's just so.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
Much that it really dives into.

Speaker 6 (11:35):
Also just balancing that there's there's murder and so much
going high school dances, right, yeah, like important things that
go on in prison, you know, exactly, like just every
other day another Tuesday, Antonia.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
I wanted to go to you.

Speaker 4 (11:50):
Just because I love that your character really has to
always fight this balance of working with mother daughter and
then black and then white and then you.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Know, and also focusing on the issue a teen or
just an.

Speaker 5 (12:00):
Adult, Like she has to play these parts. So what
does that mean to you to play that kind of role.

Speaker 9 (12:06):
Oh, it's quite fun, It's very like. I think one
of the things that I love so much about this
character is that even though she is sixteen years old,
and it is, you know, like she's a high schooler
going through high school things. She's also very much like
experiencing such a wide range of life moments that are
very very challenging and difficult, and so as an actor

(12:26):
to be able to sort of tackle so many different
things all at once is a challenge, but it's also
just so so fun and fulfilling to be able to
portray a character such as her. And I think that
we see this season, we see her sort of make
so many huge decisions for herself and her family, and

(12:49):
I think towards the end she kind of turns into
a new person and it's going to be very interesting
to see where she goes from there.

Speaker 5 (12:55):
Absolutely, and I wanted to just close with the fact
that this show really tackles secrets and your ability to
keep or not keep them.

Speaker 2 (13:03):
So how are you both at keeping secrets? Very good?

Speaker 4 (13:09):
Okay, who do you think is the best in the
cast at keeping and who's the worst?

Speaker 9 (13:13):
I think we're the best.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
Who's the worst? I won't tell them what they or native.

Speaker 4 (13:32):
