Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is a Prime Time with Sean Mooney production corrects.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Let yourself see.
Speaker 3 (00:09):
The History Channel Time and thirty.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Lasting History Chel This Shield is broken up. No more
tactical gear. But here we are talking about Roman reigns
from twenty fourteen to twenty fifteen on the History of
the Roman Raine Show with Isa the Demon Diva.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
How you doing today, I'm doing good.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
I'm so excited. We're getting to the fun times.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Oh yeah, he hit those ones up though, because we
have to acknowledge our tribal chief. He's not a tribal
chief yet though, he is still obsessed with being a
member of the Shield, and that is one of the
big topics of conversation here today because we're starting off.
If you missed it episode one, the Shield broke up, folks,
and now Roman Rains is all by himself. Seth Roalds
(01:00):
was an evil man with the authority and Dean Ambros
loves to wear jeans and a dirty tank top to
the ring. So when the Shield broke up, for you personally,
who did you see the WW looking at as the
next big starf For me, it looked like Seth Rawlins.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Yeah, I mean I wanted it to be Roman as
a fan, I'm not gonna give you an O bias
answer on that. But when they have said do the turn,
and I figured it was going to be here.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Yeah, and then heading into the first Summer Slam without
the Shield being together anymore, we have singles matches, we
have Rowlins and Dean Ambrose setting themselves up, but we also.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Have Roman Reins taking on Randy Orton.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Match.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
But in today's world it's very simple like, oh, of
course Rainey Orton would wrestle Roman Rains at a big event.
But in twenty fourteen, this is not the case. Roman
Rains just got off being in a faction Raindy Orton's
little bit rubon shoulders with people like Undertaker, John Cena
Caine Big Show. How important do you think it was
for Roman Rains to be the first one out of
the gate to take on someone outside of the Shield.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
That's when I started real I see maybe they are
actually behind Roman, right, Because when you ask a question
when they first break up, you automatically think, wow, they
have said do this, so what's gonna happen now? But
when you start seeing the programs that they're putting them into,
that's when I as a Roman rings fan at that
time was like, oh no, they're about to strap the
Rocket and Roman because not everybody gets Randy. Randy's a
(02:20):
big deal.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Yeah, and especially twenty fourteen because again again as we
record this now ten years later, rene Or is still
a star, but he is rubbing his shoulders with everybody
because he knows his time is dwindling down. In twenty fourteen,
riney Or is still at the peak of his game.
He is still in the prime. He is still being
catered to, is one of the main top five stars
(02:41):
in the WWE.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
And Roman reigns taking on Orton at SummerSlam. Setting this up.
Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
I remember going into this being like, damn, like they
got a lot of momentum building up for Roman if
they want him to fight Randy or not just a
payback or a fast lane. We're talking Summer Slam, the
biggest party of the summer, the second biggest event besides WrestleMania,
at least at the time.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Now you decide.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Who you know, Roy Rumble or Crown Jewel, whatever you
want to say.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
It's different.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
But yet how many people get to say, Hey, my
first singles after I stepped out of my fashion match
at a big pay per view. What's friendly? Orton, don't
me like how many people get that? Not everybody can.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
Say that, you know, that's true.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
That's actually a really good point because again, like I said,
I want to hit home with people who are enjoying
this wrestling history channel that Rain NewYork in twenty fourteen
is not just fighting anybody. He is picking and choosing
who he gets to wrestle when he wants to wrestle,
because he is that big of a star. Roman Reins
is in Vince McMahon's eyes, someone we can you know,
(03:41):
put the company behind. We have Rollins already off doing great,
we have Dan Ambros a lunatic fringe, but Roman in
I think Orton, I want to make sure people understand
how important this was to Roman Rains's development as a
main event star.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
This is the beginning of it all and there's still
no hate on Roman yet yet.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Building up to this triple Ah is announcing who is
going to take on the World champion at Summer Slam.
Everyone's in the ring. Roman ends up spearing radio or
setting up this matchup, and we don't have social media
telling us this match is gonna actually take place. It's
WWE dot com breaking the news that Roman will take
on Orton.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
And think about that for a second.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
How I feel so old when it's like, it's not Twitter,
it's not Twitch, it's not TikTok telling us.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
It's ww dot com telling us, like.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
How video a video out of fears on Twitter? You know,
before the show telling you what match is gonna happen.
It's not crazy, it's crazy. They used to do a
lot back in those days. Like people don't realize a
lot of times the show will end and you will
have to run over to the w dot com to
seel like the next five minutes. Remember then we'll put
it off on the on the show, so you will
(04:50):
know what happened after. You wouldn't go to Twitter and
find a fan video, No, you will have to go
to the dot com to see what happened. They will
play with their website a lot. But we we were
visiting that website a lot back then. I can't remember.
How can I go through it now because I don't,
But back in these days, I remember making it almost
at daily stuff.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Yeah, I only go there for ticket ticket events when
they're coming up, or when there's merchandise like that's about it.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
I don't, I don't, right, and uh, you.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Know, spoiler alert, I did not buy this head of
the Table hoodie on WWE dot com because it was
like seventy dollars Amazon, folks, twenty five bucks.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
I'm just saying, just saying.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Replica Belts, folks, Replica Belts hundred bucks, not eight hundred dollars.
Be smart, be smart, don't stupid Amazon.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
That's crazy.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
Don't beat don't be stupid, folks.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
But Roman reigns beats Rainy Yorton at the summer Slim
setting up for a big thing, and we're thinking, holy shit,
like all right, Roman just beat Orton. We are heading
into this new phase of Roman's gonna be the main
baby face. He's gonna be the guy. But an injury
takes hi Ount. He's supposed to take on seth Rawlins
at Night of Champions a month later, and that's gonna
(06:05):
be this big revenge all Roman wants revenge for being
turned on by seth Roninds it doesn't happen. Roman Rains
actually has to have emergency surgery for a hernia and
he's out for two months now. Again ww network, not
dot com, the network had updates all day long before
(06:25):
this event, acknowledging, acknowledging that Roman Rains was gonna be hurting,
the update US on his surgery, the update US on
everything about that. I think people don't remember how great
the WW network was because they were treating it as
a television channel like an ESPN, where we're gonna update
you all day long, with crawls on the bottom, giving
you what you should watch, what's gonna happen next. How
(06:48):
important do you think the network was to fans in
the beginning. Now we just have we gotta watch Netflix,
we gonna watch us say, you gotta watch ESPN, you
gotta watch this.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
You had the network, that's all you had.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
It's so hard to describe as step because it almost
feels like you had to be there kind of thing
for it, you know, like, but they did. They try
to make it. If you think about it, that back then,
the NFL network was lounching, you know, MLB network was
lounching and they have something happening at all time with
the scrolls, and w W was really trying to replicate that,
and I miss it. I feel like with the WW network,
(07:20):
it's because we didn't know what we had. It was
so ahead of its time. It was so ahead of
its time. We just never knew I ktdo did though,
I feel like I did when they took it away,
And I know that's not what this podcast is about.
I knew what we were losing. Like, I love the network.
I used them for everything. I loved having a place
to go for the news, especially at this time right
and there wasn't that many dirt cheeks. I know that
(07:41):
now you just search a name of a wrestler on
Twitter and you find everything you need to find. But
back then it was like a handful of wrestling dirt cheeses.
People were not paying for this services either. I know
that the Observer have had like the pay well forever.
People were not paying back then for wrestling news because
would put them to you all day long, anywhere you
wanted to see them.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Yeah, that's a good point about that too. And yeah,
the network, we don't. As you brought up, there was
no way that you were able to say, like, man,
I really want to watch an episode of Raw from
nineteen ninety six, Well shit, it was on the network.
Now You're like, I don't even know where to look.
Do I go on the vault on YouTube. Do I
go on Peacock is it still there? And you brought
it up too.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
The WWE network was revolutionary.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
We didn't have Peacock or Paramount Plus or Apple Plus
or Disney Plus or whatever other goddamn entity that.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Exists, HBO Max, everything did not. This wasn't around.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
All we had was Netflix and they'll get those DVDs
in the mail. And then you had ww Network with
they had original programming, they had classics, they had current events.
You're paying nine ninety nine nine nine nine now a
lot of.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Times, you know, not all the times people say that.
Sometimes I feel like the w W tries to erase history,
you know, like in a weird way. I feel that
way with the livery because with the network, it was
so easy for you to go, Man, I really want
to watch this Roman rings much for this day. You
know exactly where to find it.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
Now.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
It's so missy that you almost don't want to go
through the trouble of it.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
I go on YouTube and I'm like, Roman Reigns is
Randy Orton in the summer slam Damn Rainy Orgon, you know,
Roman Reigns versus Damn.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
I'm like can't find it, can't find it.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
That's what I'm saying. The ball doesn't have everything up.
The library is too big.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
I agree, agreed.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
And but with Roman Rains, he had to have emergency
surgery and he's out for two months. And usually this
would deter someone, this would ruin their momentum.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
It doesn't for him. But how do you think that.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Let's get inside of Vinsic Man's brain for a minute,
where clearly Roman Rains just beat Rainy Orton. All right,
so you now you had Rainy Orton lose your rooman
to win. Well, now Romans out for two months. That
if I was Rainy Orton or Vincing Man, I'd be
internally upset about this because you just sacrifice Orton for Roman.
But now Romans out for two months.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
Yeah, it's injury happens, you know. But I see what
you're saying. It's like I'm about to start the rocket
on this guy, and yeah, there goes down. We got
to keep him off TV for two months.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
Yeah, he had again an emergency surgery for a hernia.
That and if you check out Ruman Rains other interviews
he's done over the years, he has mentioned how he
was suffering this whole entire shield run with an injured
with an injury like that. But yet now it's too serious.
Now he can't go through the pain. He has to
get the surgery. So he's out and at I have
Champion Seth Rollins comes out to pretty much say, like,
(10:32):
I beat Roman Reigns, I did it. But Dean Ambrose,
who was taken out earlier in the year, he returns.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
But what was he doing.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
He was filming a movie that I never watched, but
he was in twelve Rounds three.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
That's right, the third twelve rounds.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
It's off a call twelve rounds three, lockdown, just add
more shit to it, you know, did you ever see him?
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Watched it? I never watched it, But as soon as
you've brought it up when you were we were, you know,
going over things. I just remember the marketing of it.
I remember how much they promoted it, because as soon
as he said, oh, the Ding Ambrose movie, the first
thing I je was, oh, yeah, twelve rounds And I
never seen it. But it was because they were trying
to shove it down our throats so much during this time.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
Yeah, they really wanted us to watch twelve rounds three.
Now before we go on to more about Roman Rings.
Have you ever watched like when the Wweb four would
hit you over the head with the marine or See
No Evil or Triple ah as like a babysitter, I think,
and I with a girl from Modern Family. Did you
ever watch those movies? Were you ever convinced I need
(11:34):
to see this?
Speaker 1 (11:35):
No, I watched. I watched See No Evil, but it
was just I'm a big horror movie fan, so like
it was just like, how are you gonna like wrestling?
A lot of people told me I'm gonna like wrestling
and horror or not seeing See No Evil? You know,
so that one I did see, but I did I
go out of my way to watchbe w We produce movies, No, Steve.
There's so many of them. I haven't watched, and I
don't plan on.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
How you did not see twelve Rounds three Lockdown or
twelve Rounds two Locked Down. I'm gonna but it's.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
So funny because at this time, I don't know if
people understand how bad we wanted to like get the
movie studios over, because like I just remember how much
they will market these movies. I know so many movies
and so many people that were in it that I
never watched. But it was just like the marketing that
they were doing was so in your face that you
could you can mention the movies and I never seen it.
I know it was Don'tigler, and I believe Russeleve might
(12:24):
have been on that.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
Oh man, Yeah, there's a picture I think of Ruceph
holding a gun.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
Yes, and that picture still.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
To this day appears throughout the internet when someone doesn't
like it.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
You know what, My new favorite thing off topic, but
my new favorite thing is wrestling out of context that
it makes the best memes.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
That's true, I know, and I did make a few
memes here, but that was so simple way you just
use your phone a little little. The simple picture was.
It was really uh barbaric. Now it's oh, I gotta
get this, I gotta put my thumbnail. I gotta do that,
I gotta do this. It's just a whole different story.
But yeah, different times it's exhausting. Oh I don't want
to do it. I don't want to do it. December
(13:03):
twenty fourteen, Though Rouman Reraines does return from his injury
and he starts he continues this few of the authority
but we are clearly setting up for the Royal Rumbell
twenty fifteen.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
Yeah, he was a clear favorite. I don't know what's
wrong with people.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
Now? Where do you think now this is we're gonna
get down in the weeks?
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Where do you think the hate began because the man
be Orton, he's out for two months, okay, with an injury,
a real injury.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
He returns, and then the hate starts to grow. Why
do you think it starts to grow? I don't know.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
I don't. To me, it never made any sense. And
I went through it four years of this Roman because
I want to get into it. It was very hard
being a Roman raines fans back then it's not now, no,
it's great, Oh no, bad then? And I could never
make any sense of where it came from. I think,
like the best theory that I could give people, because
people will come to me because you know the Roman girl.
(14:01):
I think it's because they try to make Roman such
an underdog, and I don't think that somebody that looks
like Roman and carries himself with the Roman does is
an underdog. And there is a way to book the
baby face dominant without making him a jerk, you know,
because back then the facing heel was such good guy
bad guy. You know, it's not as complex as it
is now. And I feel like you cannot make somebody
(14:23):
like Roman an underdog. Nobody's gonna buy it. And I
think it wasn't a Roman thing. It was not the
way that they were pushing Roman. I think everybody was
aware that he was about to be the next big thing,
whether we liked it or not. I just don't think
they presented him the right way.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
Yeah, they kept trying to feed Caine and Big Show
is this dominant duo taking out Roman. Nobody wanted to
see Big Show in twenty fifteen. Nobody want to see corporate.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
Roman gave him a hell of a freaking match.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
They had good matches, but it was very like we
gotta use weapons, we gotta get, we gotta get Oh yeah, of.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
Course, but was very limited with Roman, you know. But
at the same time, I just remember that I think
wasn't a last man standing. They had a last man
standing of one of these pay per views. Yeah, I
love a match, probably one of Big Troll's last. Like
really good matches and people they want to A lot
of times. I can understand, you know, the presentation. But
a lot of times I also felt like you're hating
(15:17):
just to hate because it was cool to hate him,
because it was sometimes that he was putting on good matches.
He wasn't even on a title picture, and people were
still hating what he was doing.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
It's just shocking how quick it happened.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
Now.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
I think one of the big uh theories here is
Daniel Bryan. Daniel Brian is someone everybody wanted to win
this Royal rumble. Everybody wanted Daniel Brian to repeat what
happened already at Wrestlmania thirty.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
Setting out my scenario, geez.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Unfortunately with Russelmenia thirty when Daniel Brian won, he had
two back to back matches after that against Kine on
pay per views, and Daniel Brian had to step away
from wrestling because of his injury.
Speaker 3 (15:54):
He returned.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
That's true problem. You're right, it's not one problem, but
the problem. Miss fans wanted to have that same feeling
back again. They wanted the rest of me at thirty
to happen at thirty one. This time he's healthy again.
Let's just repeat it. Let's play that hit one more time.
Vince clearly's like no, no, no, no, no, we already
did that. We already gave him that moment. We're going
(16:16):
forward with the Roman reigns. Who if you do the
math at restmen at thirty was on a three on
three match.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
It lasted like thirty five seconds. So we here we are.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
So do you think the hate really starts with the
love for Daniel Bryan and is not being reciprocated through
Vinsic Manning creative? So we're gonna take all of our
life from Daniel Bryan and turn that to hate on Roman,
the guy you want us to cheer.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
Because every time they give they put they every time
they said okay, fans, here you go have what you want. Unfortunately,
and injury happens and you have to rewrite entire angles
and this and that. And I'm not trying to take
it out on Daniels and brianson dragonson, but every time
they put a built of this man, he will get
injury and everything will have to like we will have
to like put things together to start telling these stories again.
(17:03):
And at some point you got to say, well maybe
we should slow it down there. And I mean again,
the thing that I just told you is like they're
trying to present Roman as this underdog that he's not.
When you have this person who is a legit underdog
just in a silver plate. I can see the differences
there now controversial and personal thing because I know we're
trying to base this very history, but I'm not the
(17:24):
underdog kind of person. I don't watch wrestling because I
want to see somebody that looks like I can relate
to overcome. No I want I want to watch people
larger than life be cocky and be rung and I
like my wrestlers to look like wrestlers, and that is
probably known by the people who I prefer my favorite wrestlers, right,
So I have I and I'm not a very empathetic person.
(17:46):
So it's like, you give me than Brian, and I'm like,
if I can kick his but I don't want to
see him with all these things. I want to see
somebody that looks like that's the people that you should
be like wow, you know, And that's that's that's why
I have like a weird thing, because I'm like, yeah,
because in what world would it make sense in real
life that Brian could overcome twenty nine guys and win
a rumble.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
No, tell me how you really feel Aboutdaniel Bryan.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
I'm sorry. I was so happy when Rumin won that
rumbull and seeing the reaction.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Now, I'm guessing a lot of people felt the same
way you did, but just not at this Royal Rumble,
in particular at the event.
Speaker 3 (18:24):
On Twitter this evening.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
I will be posting a clip on my reaction, Oh
Roman Rains came out. I found it on my lab.
When Roman Rains came out at the twenty fifteen Royal Rumbulls.
You guys can see how excited I was to see him.
I'm not making this up. I wanted to see this
man win the rumble.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
Wow. Wow, Now I.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
Remember personally I wanted to get Brian to win because
of the same thing. But at the same time, this
is where the Roman reigns hate. Really, just throw that
wood on that fire, because when you have, like I
said earlier, when you have Caine in Big Show, which
nobody likes in general, no one, and people are bored.
People are chanting like, retire Big Show to him every
(19:03):
time he comes out.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
That's where we're at in this world.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
If you don't know, the fans are turning on everything
they're doing with the authority because it's not the And
that's when Triple Ah'd been like, I'm gonna go tell
my friend and go on my computer and I'm gonna
type that I'm angry about what's happening. It's funny because
that same audience all grew up and became wrestling journalists
or grew up and went to go work for ESPN
or go work for Sports Center and things of that nature.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
So I guess that came true Triple h.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
But this ending the final four, you got Caine, you
got Big Show, you got Roman, you got Russev, who
we thought was eliminated, but he wasn't eliminated. But Daniel
Bryan's tossed up with bray Wyatt in the middle of
this matchup.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
Bray Wyat was so badassing this rumble.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
He tosses like everybody.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
Yeah, at one point he's just cutting a promo in
the middle of the ring by himself because he had
tossed out everybody. I love breathe performance in this rumble,
and I feel like he doesn't get talked about enough
because he eliminated Brian and the Roman hate and the
Daniel bryand not winning and I'm like, I have vivid
memories of bray Wyatt in this rumble because that's when
I that's when I really I really liked him. But
(20:06):
that's when I really like, Oh man, I'm in this
bandwagon forever.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
And the crowd was eating it all up. They were
dancing with him, they were singing with him. But yeah,
Daniel Bryant is tossed up by bray Wyan. That's where
I think, that's where all of it goes down, because
in the next fifteen minutes we'll have to watch everyone.
We don't want to see waitning. I don't want to
see this guy win. I don't want to see this
person win. There is a highlight in this and we're
still confused because technically Rumin didn't win this for a
(20:31):
rumble because Curtis Axel never made it to the ring.
Eric Roan attacked him on the outside. Axel Madia is
still running wild here. Who we are saying, Yeah, it's facts,
those are facts.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
He's a there's a facts I used to love where
he used it on his promos Good Times.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
It was pretty funny.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
But Roan rains eliminates Big Show, he eliminates Kane uh
and then the Rock shows up and he's hitting King
with spinebusters people's elbows. Roman rains spears Russeph, who we
thought was liminated, he slips back in.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
He's tossed out.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Roman becomes the number one contender for the World Headweight
Championship at Wrestlmania thirty one, which I can't know why
it's gonna be fun.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
To talk about as well. But the Rock. You've seen this.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
Image, The Rock is holding Roman Reins's hand and.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
He is shocked because that crowd is booing and booing
and booing. Roman.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
Now you're telling me you were happy to see Roman
Reins win, but the audience was not happy.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
Twitter was not happy.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
You could type in Roman Reins's poopy on Twitter at
this point in time and get one hundred retweets because
there was no algorithm. There was none of that shit.
You could type in anything you wanted you would actually
work out for you. What were your thoughts on the
Rock's facial expressions going Uh, I was called in to
help and it looks like I'm not helping at all.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
Yeah, the Rock didn't get booed. Rock that would never
get boot surprise appearance, even though I do Remember this
is one of the very first things I remember being
spoiled for some reason. I remember people saying the Rock
was gonna be there for that rumble. I just remember
being in shock. And remember I'm like two years in,
(22:12):
you know, from really like watching again, and I just
for me it was unfair, like why is nobody behind it?
Like the rock is there, like raising its head. Why
can't you people get it? And then like people were
so upset about it? And another thing that never made
sense to me is just stepping away from Roman Rains.
One of my favorite triple threads ever happened at that rumble,
(22:32):
and like, how can you say this rumbo was so
terrible just seeing a broadcaster except rolling store down the house,
you got your nine ninety nine nine years oh your
ticket price wor just in that match, right, So even
if you're all happy with the rumbo, you walk away saying, man,
I really watched that triple thread. If you haven't seen it,
go watch it. But like I just couldn't understand, Like,
and again I'm very biased. I'm emotionally involved in this,
(22:55):
in this in this story, in this character, in the
Roman Rain. So for me, it was unfair. I couldn't
even go to social media. My nephew was with me
because I flew him up to watch the Grumble with me,
and he's rolling and showing me what people are saying.
I'm like, we just stopped.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
You're hurting me. You are hurting me now.
Speaker 2 (23:13):
It's just funny that a year before this, when Batista
won Roman, the second to last person's Roman Rains, he
gets tossed out. They're they're cheering for room in the
whole time, want him to win. A year later, he
actually does win, booing him out of the building.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
Terrible and they hit. They had an interview for the
Little dot Com after, and I thought it was such
a funny interview with the Rock and Roman backstage, and
I remember thinking why didn't they do that on stage
because I remember like laughing, like I got a couple
of huckles out of this interview. I was like, why
not have them cut up promo, you know after the
show gos of the air. But maybe people, we are
(23:49):
gonna stop throwing beers at the freaking ring. That's how
hostile we got.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
The Rock was pretty sweaty too. When he's holding him
up is.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
A bloody that he couldn't even celebrate. He has not
yet won another rumbull after That's why I can't imagine
that the PTSD, this man has to hop about winning
the room bull.
Speaker 3 (24:07):
They're like, let's not do this again, let's not I.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
Tell him was gonna win last year?
Speaker 3 (24:10):
But to you, so, yeah I did. I was.
Speaker 2 (24:13):
I was one of those people as well. I didn't
know who's gonna win that year. But yeah, there was
a lot of thoughts on who should win. But yeah,
it's a strange you get one year, twenty fourteen cheered,
twenty fifteen boot out of the building. Things have changed, obviously,
the the wrestling fans were becoming smarter and going, oh,
you want to push him? Oh, we are not gonna
let that happen. But yet John sena suck chance for
(24:36):
ten years. Guess what, folks, you could boo you want?
And maybe that's kind of the thing is we for
ten years, for a whole decade, we saw what happened
with John Cena being pushed and pushed and defeating all
of the heels, and people wanted something new and maybe
Daniel Bryant was that new for them.
Speaker 3 (24:51):
But rumin rains and fitsk Man's eyes.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
Is this new John Cena, just in a new version
of him.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
But in our own toxic ways. We talked about this
toxic relationship we have with wrestlers, Steve like ninety percent
of the time they ended up being right. Look at
us right now crying over Johnsena retiring and takeing appreciating him,
even those of us who chanted John Cina sucks. Look
at what Roman is now and the way the fans
see him after after we went through the spirit of
(25:18):
time we're about to talk about at the end of
the day, I do think that Vince had an eye
for the He knew who was gonna be the next guy.
No matter how long to get him there, this guy
was gonna get there and eventually we were all gonna
have to eat our own words. Not me with Roman,
but we've seen that. For example, I have such an
appreciation of him now when in this era that we're
talking about, I couldn't stand him.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
Yeah, yeah, is that when he wins the money in
the bank and it's Sina wins a lol and he's
hold the briefcase and people have meaned that forever too,
same exact thing. We will get to a big giant
meme heading into rust me at thirty one in a minute.
But we're heading into fast Lane now after this roy rumbo,
Roman Reigns is convinced by the already you should put
(26:00):
up your championship opportunity for you shouldn't fight at WrestleMania,
you should just get it.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
They wanted to make up for the Rumbel mistake instead
of just doubling down and then saying no, this is
a Royal Rumble winner.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
Nope, they did it the opposite way.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
I feel like they added more hate to Roman Rein
because on Raw Daniel Brian defeated Seth Rollins to earn
the right to face Roman Rains at fast Lane. So
now you have the guy Daniel Brian. Everybody, It's not everybody.
A lot of people wanted to win the Royal Rumble
to go on to wrestling to repeat. That's why I
didn't say everyone. I said some people, some people. But
(26:38):
yet now you have Roman Reigns, the guy that some
people are saying I hate him.
Speaker 3 (26:43):
I don't want him. Stop doing what you're doing.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
So now you have the guy everyone loves and the
guy that people are starting to hate fight each other
at fast Lane. In what world does that make sense
for making Roman Rains popular. What the Daniel Brian sprinkles
magic on Roman? We're all gonna like him suddenly.
Speaker 1 (27:01):
Yeah, I don't know why they would think that I
hated that they. I mean, I like the result, and
I'm like, but I hate this book in any kind
of perspective. When somebody goes on and wins an opportunity
and then puts that opportunity on the line. They done
it with the briefcase a couple of times. I think
it's the stupidest thing. Nobody on the right mind will
do that. I just went through screweling match. I want
to know, screw you.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
I agree.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
I think it's always the dumbest thing on the baby
face is like there's ten guys in the ring and
they're like.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
Hey, you're a loser.
Speaker 1 (27:30):
I'm a loser.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
Well I'm gonna come down and beat um all.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
Ten and all ten guys beat you up. Like how
smart are you?
Speaker 1 (27:36):
That's what I'm saying. It's I doesn't matter whether you're
a good person or a bout person. Like, tell me,
if you watch this in this situation in real life,
will you do this? If you earn a promotion at
your job and somebody's like, so she doesn't deserve to
be promoted, and you're gonna say, okay, well let's take
test and see who passes, and that person no, I
got promoted. There's all something immediately didn't see in you.
Speaker 3 (27:58):
Yeah, very very baffling.
Speaker 2 (27:59):
But yeah, Daniel Brian loses to Roman Rains at fast Lane,
and then they had the moment where Daniel Brian again
holding Roman's hands, like.
Speaker 3 (28:07):
Yeah, he's the guy, guys, we should cheer. You should
cheer him more.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
Nothing can be more obvious than hey, Daniel, we need
to go out there and make Roman Rains popular. And
it was a great thirty minute match, Like, seriously, watch it.
It's very very good.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
It's a great match.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
But yet I don't I don't understand the the sprinkling
and of the holding of the hand and pointing at
someone and saying like you should cheer him. The more
you tell me to cheer someone, the more people are
gonna put their feet down and go mmm, I'm now
I'm gritting my teeth.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
I'm gonna boo him even louder.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
Now.
Speaker 3 (28:38):
The logic was confusing this one.
Speaker 1 (28:41):
While I wasn't part of it, I understood the backlash,
you know what I mean, Because as soon as they
booked the match, I was like, this is stupid, this
is this is stubs. I don't know why they're doing this.
Even when Brian was raising his arm over with the
ring of like this is stop stop doing this to him.
Speaker 3 (28:56):
Why are you doing You're hurting Roman?
Speaker 1 (28:58):
Yes, I'm like, you are gonna people hate him. Man,
You're not really having a hard time. Try to put
a case up for him. You know. He's just like, yeah,
you're not helping right now. It wasn't very you know this,
because we were very active and we were you know,
we started podcasting together shortly after this, but you know
it was there wasn't a lot of people depending Roman
at this time, and it was very hard for those
(29:19):
of us who even try to defend him because he's like, yeah, no, no,
what they're doing. What am I gonna say? What am
I gonna say?
Speaker 3 (29:25):
I think that's the biggest problem with this.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
I have nothing against a story of Roman Rings becoming
this new guy and being the man and all that stuff.
I just have a problem with how logical are you
when you look at the situation if you're writing creative
to be like Okay, the guy one loves what's happening
against the guy that people are kind of ethion and
that will help the guy that he's kind of ifion.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
Like that doesn't help anybody. I don't at all. I
don't understand.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
It's like a celebrity endorsing another celebrity, like, oh, you
should like him, Like no, we don't like him, and
now we don't, like we are a little mad at
you for doing what you're doing. And he's told by
his bosses you have to do this, but hey, it
did set up us for Roman Range versus brock Lesnar
for the first time at Wrestmania thirty one and the
final segment before this WrestleMania, and I feel like this
(30:11):
is this is the first WrestleMania heading into this. I
remember because Twitter was active before WrestleManias, but this is
really where Twitter became, like it started growing at a heavy,
heavy rate where fans were thinking, you know, I don't
feel like this is a I don't feel like I'm
excited for WrestleMania. The Restmania build is not getting me excited.
And from this point on, I feel like every reestumen
(30:32):
it has the same tweets, the same TikTok videos now
Instagram posts, whatever. It's the same thought of I don't
feel like they're giving me this WrestleMania build, and yet
we got a fucking tug of war between Brock Lesend.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
And Roman Raines.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Not a physical encounter of spears and f fives. It's
Brock with his championship. Roman looks at it and they
just start grabbing it and they're tugging back and forth,
back and forth. That's how they ended the last episode
of Monday Night Raw heading into restmedia thirty one. Now
this moment has been memes to death, adding a Snickers
bar in the middle, adding a Playboy of Sable. I've
(31:08):
seen I have you multiple Nintenda sixty four is a
good one too. Is this the first WrestleMania build that
people are not accepting the matches that are being put
out there for the fans?
Speaker 1 (31:23):
I am Steve. You know Roman is my favorite? Who
is my second favorite? Do you know?
Speaker 3 (31:29):
Is it Seth Robins or Broadlassner.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
So of course this is another situation where I'm like,
I'm super excited. Why fun with me? And the thing
of it is, it's very easy to say these words
now in hindsight. Right, we're traveling, you know, time travels
from the future to talk about this, but at this
time and based on the people that I like, I'm like, okay,
my three favorites because their term was Rawlin's like he
(31:54):
was facing Randy and they had a great brawl going
into Reservantia, which I was like, oh my god, they're
gonna well for I was like, I felt like they
didn't give us an offward Brock with Set and Randy,
they did too much. I was like, what are they
gonna do? What the match? They already killed each other
a rock, but you had that, you had the ladder
match with you know what's gonna be excited? So I'm
going into this. You have Brain the Undertaker, where Brave
built this entire funderal on his own back, and you're like,
(32:16):
they're even gonna show up. I was excited. Forsania thirty one,
I will say I told you I don't want to
talk about it. I hated that go home segment because
it's like you have Brock, who is cutting problem saying
he's gonna leave Roman in a blood piss and vomit.
That's right, So I Brain, yeah, so and They're like,
(32:42):
they're just playing tog of words, guys that look like
brock Lessener and Rob Rings, which we go on to
see what they can do. Because I don't care what
everybody says Golden Match. I love WrestleMania thirty one main
event and and and that's what you have to do.
So it's just like, I'm excited for me. I think
the matchups are good. I think people in retrospect, why
were so many thirty one and go, well, that was
(33:03):
really good and don't even realize it was gonna be
that good. We did to hate and not like really
just sit back and see what they give us. The
card was good. The people that I like, we're in
good positions. So I'm not understanding what the entire Maybe
I just have a hate relationship with the internet in general.
Speaker 2 (33:20):
I think that might be the case where like for
you personally, But no, honestly, I think this was the
first time like social media played a big part on
the feelings heading into WrestleMania. Previous to this, the first
thirty you know, the first at least twenty eight of
them didn't have really social media involved at all. But
I think I'm not saying this is a bad Wresslemania.
(33:43):
But I'm thinking this is the first rustle media where
fans who didn't have a voice now have a voice
because of social media, and they're putting out their feelings
towards this. Maybe they felt this way over the years
where we were heading into you know, once in a
lifetime between John's seen It in the Rock and then
twice in a lifetime the next year, there was no no,
nobody was fueling the hate with social media heading into
(34:05):
thirty one.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
The fuel was there because people were upset with Roman.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
Now we have Twitter like it just was an evil
combo heading into this. But you're right about that. Bronck
Lesner Roman Rains match arrest Me at thirty one. We'll
talk about the cash and of course, but the match
itself feels very real because before so good. After these matches,
you see so many plan spots. And again I'm not
I don't. I love repetition. I love to feel nostalgia
(34:32):
about things. Roman Rains gets in the corner and does
his ouahs and Brock f five's and Germans suplexes.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
We're used to that now.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
At rest Men at thirty one, Roman Rains gets his
ass handed to him and it's not a oh, he's
gonna give him twenty and German duplexes. There are knee
caps to the face. They not not oh, we sort
of touched them like you see it. I will never
forget this spot. Roman is on the second rope and
he's on the apron and Brock needs them right in
(35:01):
the face and he just falls out and they slow
the repeated over and over and over.
Speaker 1 (35:06):
Forget also that we're talking Brocklestener who USC has to
custom make gloves for him because his hands are so
big that they didn't have his size. But he will fight,
and at one point in the match he removes the
glove to hit him with his to slap him with
his bare hand that I will never want to imagine
what the slap feels like. Which they also slow mo
and you can see he did not hold back. However,
(35:29):
we do see one of the hardest things I ever seen,
which is Roman Rings laughing at him. I'm saying, is
that all you got? Which I thought was so brilliant.
This is how you have to sell Roman. The way
that Roman was fighting Brock, where you see him getting
too Brock because Brock is like, I'm giving it all
I got. And this dude is half dead but half
laughing at me. And you know, Brock is such a
(35:49):
real character. At this time, he didn't speak. We just
saw the beas and corner and he will speak. He
will say, we're gonna leave you in your own blood
and vomit. So you almost didn't want him to speak,
so I and there was a moment there the stairdown
between the two of them before the bell rings. They
look like main inventors, they look like stars and you're
just looking at the entrances like it just felt larger
(36:12):
than life, and you're like, yea, this is this is
what if I'm gonna invest my money, this is one
I want to pay to see. This kind of thing
that you don't see every day. It's like it got
later later on. Bit. But this was my favorite Brock
and Roman match, which they go on to field forever,
it might still be feuding. This is This was my
top match up onto the Last man Standing match, and
(36:32):
I think that one at Summers Time recently, and I
think that one was just so gimmicky that it has
to become a favorite because they just brought everything during
a tractor but Wrestum thirty one, and this is even
before the cashion. I'm glad they did the cashion because
I think it would have been a lost, lost situation.
Because people are also never behind Brock, which I will
never understand because Broncoln is such a star and I'm
(36:54):
we're not gonna get into like this. You know it's
controversial now, but I think Brock is such a star
and back then he wasn't naming anything illegal, So I
can never understand Also why people cannot get behind him
because I'm like, because it's a part timer. That's how
you conserve your body after a certain age so that
you can continue to perform a certain way. It doesn't
(37:15):
take a genius to figure that out. That's why bron
can still perform at the level that he performs today
because he conserve his body early on. Well, So if
Santa Claus came every week, will you be excited for Christmas? No?
There is something too? How is so? And not be
there all the time? There is really freaking words. If
your brand was every day, nobody will celebrate it. There's
(37:38):
there's there's something to somebody not being there all the
time that really works.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
I love that you compared this match or brock Laws
near to Santa Claus.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
You know, you know, because nobody would try to always
tell me when I would try to different Brock at
this time because I went on, I started watching wrestle,
and my ain'd just gonna pick everybody that nobody likes,
so I can be miserable my entire rest, with my
entire life as a fan. You know. But people will
tell me he's not there all the time, and I'm
like a West you get excited for things that don't
happen every day. There's my logic behind it.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
Now, I wonder if heading into this event, now here's
the real kicker in the face, because in my brain,
if I'm vincc man, it's like, okay, he usually is
very like I'm gonna do what I want.
Speaker 3 (38:22):
Fuck everybody else.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
Vince So having Roman beat Brockyre for the championship, big
moments Wrestle, Manny, we got fireworks the crowd. That to
me was the most logical situation for this match. I
think everyone believed internally like, well, they're shoving.
Speaker 3 (38:36):
Him down on the throat, so obviously he's gonna win.
Then the cashing happens.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
Why do you think Vince mc mann would pivot to
this because Roman wasn't accepted yet, So we're gonna put
him through the ringer of having the trials and tribulations
to try to chase Rollins because we didn't get that
last year because Roman got injured, he.
Speaker 3 (38:53):
Had to go and get a surgery. He was out.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
Was that the plan the year before and he earlier
didn't happen.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
At this point, I think that Vince really still wanted
to push that underdog and Roman had not gone through
enough tribals and stipulations to really be the champion, because
he really wanted to push this this baby faced underdog
in Rome and the guy that got betrayed. And one
fight we broke, even til he gave it all he had.
It wasn't to me. That's not enough to say, oh
(39:20):
my god, he fought so hard to get this title. No,
he won a roumbull and he went on to WrestleMania.
That's like the one on one of wrestling. How to
become a champion. That's not going through trouble or growing
as a character, right, And at that point people were
very they weren't there. We broke because he wasn't there
all the time as we discussed I think pressing the
panic button on set. It's not it was not about idea.
It's still one of the greatest things that we've seen.
(39:42):
But I thought, because if you go back and watch
like the twenty four and they even put out a
Roman Reigned documentary, they followed him that entire week around,
he seemed like up until that night when the decision
was made they were really gonna put the title of
Roman at this time, just based on the way that
they were pre and based on what we know now
(40:02):
after the fact, that was a night off decision.
Speaker 2 (40:06):
Yeah, it was again the heightst of the century. Seth
Rollins coming down, cashing in what he hits, and he
runs as fast as he can. Now he wouldn't be
able to run that fast, but he in twenty fifteen,
he was saying to himself, hey man, this is my moment.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
I'm the guy because.
Speaker 1 (40:25):
You expected that he lost earlier on took one of
the greatest r KOs we ever seen. You really just
roll set off the of the of the of your
mind for the night after that freaking crazy RKO, he
just took.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
It's true, and I think Seth Rollins and over the years,
has that interviews where he keeps saying he's the macho man,
and Roman reigns his whole Cogan where Roland Rollins is
never going to be the guy. He's always going to
be underneath Roman. But in twenty fifteen, it really showed
you like, hey, we got a major.
Speaker 3 (40:52):
Heel in our plate here, Roy Rumble.
Speaker 2 (40:54):
You said, I didn't mention it, but that Roy Rumble
you did, the triple threat between Brocks and Rollins is
the greatest of all time. Anyone can argue that point.
They'll say, probably Shawn Michael's tripple Legend Crispin watt restling
in twenty is the greatest triple threat. I'm sorry, it's not.
It's Brock, it's Rolins. It's seen at Royal Raumbo twenty fifteen.
(41:14):
It is the greatest triple threat. I will die on that.
Speaker 3 (41:17):
Sword, you know. True?
Speaker 2 (41:18):
And I think that night Vince saw Rawlins come out
and be like, holy shit, we got a.
Speaker 3 (41:21):
New heel on our hands. We had a new starter.
Speaker 1 (41:25):
So at this point I'm watching, but I'm still letting
my nephew kind of guide me through, right, my nephew,
who's a huge John Cena fan. And the funny thing
is that after we watch this because I'm behind Roman, right,
So he started to get me to find my other favorites,
and I told you who are the other two? Brock
and said, so my nephew was so pissed that I
like pretty even watching that mention, I'm like, holy crap,
said Rollins is amazing. I think I love him, and
(41:45):
he's over there mad because John Cina didn't wan. He's like,
you're not supposed to like him. But the Triple Threat
was when I was like, oh no, no, Seth is amazing.
That's like really like I have seen it before. But
he was just jumping off of high things and being
like the shield guy. And then new him because he
did that to Roman. But you watch him in this match,
and that's when you're like, oh no, this is a
main event. He just thought John Cena and Brock and
(42:08):
the highlight of the entire match was said, the person
I wasn't even supposed to be seen in this match
is the one everybody was talking about. He became a
main inventor that night at that triple Threat.
Speaker 3 (42:18):
True, I agree, and again he cashes in.
Speaker 2 (42:21):
Here Rawlins has a championship, he throws it over his head,
he's swinging around. You've seen this monumental moment. It's gonna
be remembered for a lifetime, I think. But Roman does
not win. And as you mentioned his documentaries Whereaul Hayman
is talking to Roman Ragn's backstage after this event. Romans
entire family is there, everybody, his aunts, his uncles, his kids,
everybody's there because they expect him to be the champion.
Speaker 3 (42:42):
It doesn't turn out that way.
Speaker 2 (42:44):
And you said, clearly Roman's told beforehand, hey, you win
the belt, bring in your entire family.
Speaker 3 (42:50):
It brings his entire family.
Speaker 2 (42:52):
Nope, because I'm guessing the Internet was like, this is
too obvious. The Heights of the Century is one of
the most shocking moments, and I feel like since that
they've tried to like pull it off again in a way,
but sometimes surprises can only happen every decade, and this
is one of those moments.
Speaker 1 (43:08):
We're like, damn, can I flex a little and say
that I was having a viewing party for that WrestleMania
and I had like papers on the wall for everybody
to like put who they thought was winning what match.
I had like match cards, right, and you write down
your name and who you thought was winning for the
main event, I wrote down set rollins and I have
a picture of this. I wrote down set rollins, and
all my friends at my watch party thought I was crazy.
So I saw it coming. I might have been the
(43:30):
only one that might be one of my greatest predictions
ever because everybody that I had a lot of people
that everybody was like, you're crazy, You're crazy, and I'm like,
as long as the music, and everybody was like, no way,
and I'm like, I just didn't think that there would
be a win with either Rock or Roman walking out
with the belts just because of how the fans were
reacting to them, and w W at this time is
(43:51):
showing that they do tend to bend the knee to
the fens, especially the online discourse. They're in a minute,
but they freaking do everything.
Speaker 3 (43:59):
Every time we don't do people complaining.
Speaker 1 (44:03):
Those are real people. Next thing, you know, you don't.
Speaker 2 (44:06):
The Rock versus then Triple H also is admitted he
sits on his phone and he scrolls Twitter. But yet
you don't, you don't pay attention, but yet you're scrolling Twitter.
I'm sorry, sir, that is not making sense. You're talking
out of you talking both sides.
Speaker 1 (44:20):
Sometimes I see a council line and I go throw
to wonder, who's burner that is?
Speaker 3 (44:24):
Just hang him high? Is obviously triple h.
Speaker 2 (44:28):
Come on, we know well we all know that. Come on,
get get with the program. Heading into extreme rules though
after this, Uh, it's funny because Seth Rollins takes on
Rainy or In in a steel cage match and they
both get to pick the stipulations. Rainy Orton picks steel
cage and Rollins banned the r K O. But Caine
is also the gatekeeper. He's in charge of the key
(44:49):
to the steel cage and he's not supposed to open
it if Rainy Orton tries to get out lame his ship.
I'll never forget that. A whole podcast about how dumb
That was an audio podcast that doesn't exist in this
row anymore.
Speaker 3 (44:59):
But Roman Rains took on big show.
Speaker 1 (45:02):
Especially they hangover once the next day.
Speaker 3 (45:04):
Oh my god, I'm so so hungover.
Speaker 2 (45:06):
That's when I was young and I could drink forever
and be fine, and then you know the buzz podcast.
But yeah, Seth Rawling's retained his championship. I guess Raetney Norton.
But Roman Rains took on.
Speaker 3 (45:14):
The Big Show.
Speaker 2 (45:15):
As we described that last man Standing match where Roman
Rains cannot figure out how to beat the Big Show,
he dumps the table the nouns table over on top
of Big Show, allowing Roman to pick up the win.
And I think, again, there's ingenious ideas how to defeat someone,
and this is one of those moments because as again
years will go on, they try to figure out how
(45:35):
do you defeat someone like oh Mas or Big Show
or Great Kylie Oh.
Speaker 3 (45:39):
Just dump something on him.
Speaker 2 (45:40):
This is like at the first time, I feel like
this is the beginning of let's just pile things on
someone and we'll be able to pull this off. What
did you think of Big Show and Romen Rains matches?
You said earlier you enjoyed them.
Speaker 1 (45:51):
Yeah, I like the match, and I thought that it
was like kind of cool to see somebody finally like
give Big Show a good match, because at this point
nobody just wanted to see Big Show on their TV anymore.
At the same time, with me being like the biggest
romance simp in the world, I'm like, how do you
go from maineventeing WrestleMania to fight in the Big Show?
At the next paper view like what's going on here?
Like how far back are we going? And how are
we going to rebuild him? Because if you want him
(46:13):
to be the guy and you don't think he's ready
for it, putting him with the big show Nick, it's
not going to help the situation either.
Speaker 2 (46:20):
No, it wasn't helping at all at all. Like I said,
Roman Rains fighting people we don't want to see wrestle
in general.
Speaker 3 (46:26):
Now you're having it.
Speaker 2 (46:28):
It's a weird twenty fifteen and you're heading into money
in the Bank. Possibly they finally started realizing that things
have changed. Because Roman Reigns is the money in the
Bank match and we have Roman Reigns, Rainy Or and Dolphin, Zegler, Neville,
Kofi Kingston, Seamus in Corporate Kane. Near the end of
the match, Roman Rains is about to win. Everyone's booing,
everyone's very unhappy, but yet Bray why It shows up
(46:52):
and attacks Roman Reigns, costing him the victory.
Speaker 3 (46:55):
Seamus eventually wins the briefcase.
Speaker 2 (46:57):
We are off to the races with Bray Why in
Roman Reigns, who we talked on our last History of
Roman Rains podcast, How the Whyat family in the shield
is the moment people should still go back and look
at it.
Speaker 3 (47:08):
Go damn, that was awesome.
Speaker 2 (47:10):
Now they've realized Roman and Bray that's money on the table, right.
Speaker 1 (47:14):
I loved it. I wanted to be so mad at
Bray because of course I are Roman to win all
the opportunities. But as soon as the lights went on
and he shows up, and I'm like, this guy could
really give Roman a compelling story that could give either
people to get behind him or because people love Bray too.
I love Bray too, you know. At the same time,
I was like, or at least a story that you
(47:35):
can invest because Chow is not it right, But Bray,
I'm gonna be seated and get my popcorn ready. So
I was super excited. I wanted to remain, but I
couldn't be because I knew what this field was about
to be and still to this day, even with the
Tribal Chief era, one of my favorite Roman fields ever.
Speaker 3 (47:51):
Oh yeah, and one of the greatest.
Speaker 2 (47:53):
It doesn't happen here, but one of the greatest gifts
ever was the night that they decided to turn Bray
Why Babyface and Bray white Hits sister Abigail and then
takes his finger and just points at someone and Roman
comes shooting with a spear and they pin.
Speaker 3 (48:08):
That is like the greatest moment of all time wrest.
Speaker 2 (48:13):
Yeah, and I think actually, bray White, something happens to
one of those wrestlers after them, they don't continue working together.
Speaker 1 (48:24):
I'm sorry to wearing it on, but yeah, but that
still I'm.
Speaker 2 (48:28):
Not I'm not talking about Leaue of Nations now shameless
and his dingle berriers on his face and his stupid mohawk. Yeah,
I remember, I remember uh Tho heading into the battleground
another paper of view that no one really goes back
and go.
Speaker 3 (48:40):
I can't wait to watch that.
Speaker 2 (48:41):
July nineteen, twenty fifteen, bray White takes on Roman reigns again.
I think they realized, let's keep beating down Roman, so
maybe people will cheer him. No, bray White ends up
beating Roman regns because Luke Harper returns to the WW and.
Speaker 3 (48:56):
He reunites with bray.
Speaker 2 (48:58):
Whytet because the Why family, just like the Shield broke up,
but the Shield actually had a breakup and a big
monumental moment. But Why feeling just one day stop being
together right, which is weird, the dumbest thing ever.
Speaker 1 (49:13):
You talk about that when we.
Speaker 2 (49:14):
Do our Why Yeah, we'll we'll do a brain Why
podcast after we're done with the Roman, and I will
tell you how angry I was around that time.
Speaker 3 (49:22):
Is that you do you think that's the really the reason?
Speaker 2 (49:24):
I like, let's defeat Roman over and over again so
people will start sympathizing with him.
Speaker 1 (49:28):
Yeah, they're doing it again. Now. They do this to
Roman a lot through his career. You'll see, You'll see
because they I'm used to it, right, put him on top,
kind of like de elevate him, beat him a bunch,
so people good bye and him again, and then like,
you know, but I wasn't mad. I wasn't mad at Bray.
I wasn't. I love that Luke Harper came back. I
thought it made sense. So I was not mad at
this defeat. He had just win against the big shows.
(49:50):
He didn't do you know, he got eliminated money in
the bank. So I wasn't mad, and I thought it
was good for break.
Speaker 3 (49:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (49:56):
I've always been as you know, I've always been a huge.
Speaker 1 (50:00):
At this time, at this point, at this time in
our friandom, And it might still be that way. But
Bray was to you, we should do the best brain
wire impersonation.
Speaker 2 (50:09):
I haven't done one and like a decade.
Speaker 1 (50:11):
But why was to you what Roman was to be
at this time? So I tell you were very happy
to see Look come back. And finally makes sense because
the why it is not being together never made any
sense to me for that period of time.
Speaker 3 (50:21):
No breaking up without a real breakup.
Speaker 2 (50:24):
It's like you have a you have a husband or
or a girlfriend or or wife or whatever, and out
of nowhere, you just stopped calling them and stop hanging
up with them.
Speaker 3 (50:35):
Did we break up? Why are you mad at me?
Why are you answering?
Speaker 2 (50:39):
My text is Louke Carper and his dirty tank top
texting bray in from the woods in the woods.
Speaker 3 (50:44):
In this rocking chair. I have your rocking chair. Will
you please be friends with me again? It was so
it was just so bizarre.
Speaker 2 (50:50):
And then it gets even stranger because we're heading into
summer Slam and when Romarines is defeating Luke carperon episodes
of SmackDown or Raw Well, bray White's there. Well Roman
needs the second person to help them. This is when
they kind of reunite. Roman reigns with Dean Ambros. And
when we start talking about to get the cold beers
and I'll get the beers and you get the beers.
Speaker 3 (51:11):
You have to be there, folks, You had to be there.
It was so bizarre.
Speaker 2 (51:15):
Now, why do you think they reunited Dean Ambros with
Roman Because they're trying to keep these people apart, because
they don't want people to keep thinking the Shield's gonna
get back together.
Speaker 1 (51:23):
Because the people love the Ambrose and they couldn't figure
out what to do with Roman, so you know, we
put him against Bray but the people were people were
rooting for the Wires in this situation. Well guess what
they like Dean put him with.
Speaker 2 (51:35):
Dean is that I did think that at the time too, like,
oh well, if no one likes Roman, how about we
put someone with all they'll like so they can't if
Dean Ambros is next to Roman, they can't boot Roman
because technically, aren't they also booming Dean Ambros.
Speaker 3 (51:50):
No, they weren't they They Deniabros try to help them.
Speaker 2 (51:54):
But heading into Summer Slim twenty fifteen, it's Roman reigns
and Dean Ambros versus Bray White and Lukrpa.
Speaker 1 (51:59):
This summer and at one point Roman is out of
the match forever, and there was the Roman is Sleeping
chant and I remember thinking, yeah, they still don't like him.
My nephws sitting next to me, like they're not gonna
like him. They did eventually.
Speaker 2 (52:15):
It took another I took another five, took a pandemic
to make people like Roman rings. It took a world
shutting down for fans to appreciate Romans.
Speaker 1 (52:26):
If anybody not watch it, and you were at Supper
Sided twenty fifteen, please let me know if you remember
the Romans sleeping chint. I was so aggravated by it.
Speaker 3 (52:35):
He must have got Yeah, I can't.
Speaker 1 (52:37):
He was gone for the match for a while. They
like they just like ambros like Gresshol the majority of
this match. I haven't gone back and rewatched this match ever.
I might have to know just to see if I
can hear this change, because he lives. It's one of
those memories pivots, the Roman sleeping chant.
Speaker 2 (52:52):
It's it's so bizarre because again I think the logic
kid is well, if he's not in the ring, they
can't boo him, so let's keep him out of the
ring so they won't boo him in say they.
Speaker 1 (53:01):
Still they still figure out a way to crap. Why
are you not doing anything? Hi?
Speaker 3 (53:06):
Hi, Hi, he's laying down. We should boot him. No, No,
I got a better round day. We're gonna cheat, We're
gonna make a chance about sleep.
Speaker 1 (53:15):
Sleeping. I remember, it's so clear they wanted two points everyone.
But there was a lot of people. There was fifteen
thousands of them and only one on me.
Speaker 3 (53:23):
I think a lot of fists would have been flying.
Speaker 2 (53:26):
Yes, So wait before they took your bottle caps at
every event, because you would throw them into the ring,
not you personally every arena.
Speaker 3 (53:32):
Now I'm like, how i'mups to carry all these drinks.
Speaker 1 (53:35):
There's no it's so dumb, or the beers or anything.
Or sometimes I'll put them in a cup and not
even put it. Like and you're throwing to walk down
to your seat.
Speaker 3 (53:43):
And you're way up top. You gotta walk all the
way down or sit up.
Speaker 2 (53:46):
It's like I don't have I don't have the arms
to carry popcorn, pretzels to drinks.
Speaker 1 (53:51):
No, And then and then you figure out how to
do it, and you get to the aisle and there's
some many for see your ticket.
Speaker 2 (53:59):
Ye for years I have developed the all right, when
I get all my shit, I need to have my
ticket in my hands, so it's gonna be like hanging
off my fingers.
Speaker 1 (54:06):
We don't even have that, so you have to be
holding your phone like this because we don't even have
to anymore like that.
Speaker 3 (54:11):
That's a good point. That's a good point. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (54:15):
Well, Red Moraines did wake up, eventually spearing and winning
the match.
Speaker 3 (54:19):
Roman reigns Indian Ambros went at SummerSlam.
Speaker 2 (54:22):
And a tag team match one year ago at SummerSlam
twenty fourteen, Roman rains are gonna rain d Orton where
we thought this is the beginning and now it's a
tag team match?
Speaker 3 (54:32):
Is this just to save Roman from being booed?
Speaker 1 (54:35):
They're they're they're trying to figure it out. With Roman.
They did a lot of like throwing things to the
wall to see what's stuck. Right where with Josina, I
feel like they bins might I say, no, this is
a guy and it's gonna be the guy. And you
look at Josina's career and it was always like this.
You look at Roman's career until this day, it's like this.
When it comes to where he sat on the car,
they always done this to Roman throughout history.
Speaker 2 (54:56):
Remember when he quoted Looney Tunes, Soccer and Sucker Tash.
Please don't remember, do you remember?
Speaker 1 (55:02):
I don't remember.
Speaker 3 (55:03):
It sounds like you do. I don't Roman sleep Bank.
Speaker 1 (55:08):
Oh my god, I have so much. I have so
much PTSD from this day. And I tell you I
enjoyed the years on top, you know, as the tribal chief.
Speaker 3 (55:18):
I do.
Speaker 1 (55:18):
But obviously you can say they're still pent up emotions
from these years that I have to deal with.
Speaker 3 (55:23):
I actually it's a secret therapy session for you.
Speaker 2 (55:26):
I I asked you to be on this podcast, not
at or talking about Roman, just to let out all
the feelings I appreciate you, so you can get it
all out. So when we're done with the series, you'll
be a better person. You'll be better in this world.
You'll you'll be able to contribute to society versus hiding
from the hate that Roomen was receiving in twenty fifteen.
Speaker 3 (55:46):
Right, That's why I look at that.
Speaker 2 (55:47):
Uh yeah, it just felt like Roman Rains getting back
with Deeniambros.
Speaker 3 (55:51):
Was to save him from being booed.
Speaker 2 (55:52):
And again, as I brought up, if you don't know,
there's so many memes of it too, from twenty fifteen.
You have to do a lot of Google searching to
figure it out. But Roman and Dean were always obsessed
talking about beers being dudes, and.
Speaker 3 (56:03):
I think that was what they're trying to do. Like
the Roman can be.
Speaker 2 (56:05):
Like a dude, like yeah, dude, let's let's go get
some beers and hang out.
Speaker 3 (56:09):
Bro.
Speaker 1 (56:10):
No, there were bros that were bros.
Speaker 3 (56:12):
Please don't do that.
Speaker 2 (56:14):
But there you go, folks, there's a from twenty fourteen
Summer Slim to twenty fifteen Summer Slam, Roman reigns his
rise fall being booed out of the building. We didn't
see the Rock for years after this.
Speaker 1 (56:27):
Oh no, the Rock didn't want anything to do. We're wrong,
until he became the tribal chief. You know. That's what
the Rock does. The Rock will get involved in a
storyline and then be like, oh, it isn't working, I'm
not gonna show up again. So there's heaviness to this.
You know. I don't know why people are surprised they
just pulled it off again.
Speaker 3 (56:43):
There is there is, There is a lot of evidence.
It's just so strange.
Speaker 2 (56:45):
We go from you know, rainy or to surgery, to
winning the Rumble, to getting his ass hand by brock
Lesnar to Rollins being own, cashing in at WrestleMania, to
authority storylines to hey Ze's get some beers.
Speaker 3 (56:58):
What a weird year for Roman Reign.
Speaker 1 (57:01):
Roman's career is literally this, and it's fun to look
back in retrospect. And I'm not just saying this because
I just love him and I love talking about him.
It's because they really didn't know what they were doing
with him, and they still don't.
Speaker 3 (57:13):
It's true.
Speaker 2 (57:13):
But I'm so happy we were able to talk about
twenty fourteen to twenty fifteen SummerSlam Roman Rerains's career here
on the Wrestling History Channel, because next time we're gonna
get a deep dive into blue Contacts and more main
event matches that we were told to appreciate and love
but a lot of fans did not. And again, this show,
you know, it's interesting because the show we're doing is
(57:37):
for fans who you know, either love Roman or were
watching wrestling during this time. There are some people who are, like,
only talk about things that happened thirty five years ago.
I'm sorry, some people who watch the show are only say,
eighteen years old, so they don't they're not gonna go
back and watch it to happen thirty five years ago.
They're very excited to talk about current events. And so
I'm glad we're here talking about these things because Roman
(57:58):
reigns is the tribal chief if he's the man with
the bloodline storyline that helped establish the WW being dominant
right now in the market at this time, we have
twelve rounds three lockdown.
Speaker 3 (58:10):
We ain't on we in Hollywood. Nobody's saying we want.
Speaker 1 (58:13):
You to be I'm like, who am I?
Speaker 2 (58:16):
You look like Russet to me, But he's one of
your final thoughts on this year for Roman, What are
your feelings about this?
Speaker 1 (58:25):
I just thought it was all over the place and
I didn't know what they were going with it. And
it was funny because I got some moments and some
matches that I love and remember and go back to
watch still to this day. So many at thirty one,
I go back and watch that a lot, like that
main event is one of my you know those days
that you're like, I'm just gonna watch my favorite matches.
That one always makes my lineup. But at the same time,
(58:45):
it just really just felt experimental, and you really didn't
know if this guy was gonna be the guy or not.
At the same time, you have said just flourishing and
becoming so big and becoming so awesome, because twenty fifteen
said was incredible, we might have to do a podcast
from Bray and Set. So you're sitting there wondering, like,
oh my god, this is it kind of.
Speaker 3 (59:04):
Like, you know, just going over.
Speaker 1 (59:06):
Right the match of it, just to Colgan, what's going
on here? So it was it was a year of
a lot of wondering and questioning and and not a
lot of character grows for Roman, just a lot of
trial and error.
Speaker 2 (59:19):
Yeah, man, especially because when the Shield broke up, den
Ambros Change seth Ronald's Change, Romans still had the same music,
same had same gear, same entrance. And I think that's
why a lot of fans also were angry towards him,
because they weren't satisfied with him just taking what the
other three built out together.
Speaker 3 (59:37):
He took it all and was like, oh, I could
do this by myself, no.
Speaker 1 (59:40):
Motivation, no motivation. I believe his tagline like the merge
going into wards, so Minny three one was I can
and I will like, okay, okay, bro, but why believe that?
You know, like okay, but why why? Why are you
so driven to do this? I never told us the
why behind him.
Speaker 2 (59:54):
Good point, and especially when this move originally occurred the
Superman punch were like, we all love it now, but
Jesus you're like, so you're just gonna say you're Superman
and you're gonna fly and punch someone.
Speaker 1 (01:00:08):
Fuck you.
Speaker 3 (01:00:09):
That's what people thought. They didn't think. They didn't think, oh,
this is awesome, but we're like, that's like.
Speaker 2 (01:00:13):
Oh, over do the Batman punch? You like that out,
but now we love it. We're nostalgic about it. In
twenty fifteen, nobody was happy about this. Oh some people like,
including yourself. I don't want to plump you all, and
I don't wanna ump all wrestling fans into hate because
some people hated them, some people loved them. But I
could seriously tell I told you earlier. I could type
(01:00:34):
in room Rains is poopy on Twitter and boom one
hundred reachweeks because that's how intense the hate was for
rum Raine in twenty fifteen. But all in all, thank
you for being here for another edition of the History
of Roman reigns right here on the Wrestling History Channel.
Speaker 3 (01:00:48):
I'm Steve fall sheesus.
Speaker 2 (01:00:50):
Have a wonderful day and remember every day you wake up,
don't forget to acknowledge your tribal chief.
Speaker 3 (01:00:54):
Have a great time and we'll see you next time.
Bye bye,
