In this League podcast that word present Prospect one Look

Speaker 2 (00:15):

in this League dot Com as always Prospect Top five hundred, Dynasty,
Top four hundred, Prospect ADP, all of that, and in
This League dot Com with updates maybe right around when
this show is airin crazy week. Actually, I ended up

(00:38):
losing a day or two, so I will be on
the road in a hotel getting you the final update.
So that should be up for our April edition. Very
excited to get that going. Lots of crazy things going
around the prospect world, so be on the lookout for that.
You can also check out the community I've got over
at in this League dot Com with our group me rooms.
It's kind of like Discord would love to have you.

(00:59):
And at the end of the day, you are supporting
Prospect one, so thank you in supporting me with what
I do, So thank you for doing that. In This
League dot Com you can sign up today and today
on the episode is Chris Blessing. We are doing some
live looks, more live looks as much as we can,
and we are gonna be picking his brain on some
players that he has seen live. I will give you
a little bit of a pre warning. It's a bit

(01:21):
White Sox kind of heavy at the top, as we're
gonna be talking about some of the top pitchers Brad Montgomery,
Kayla Bonnember so I mean this top system, So we're
gonna be talking about some of those guys as well
as kind of some Hoojia rathers. Zaire Hope is on
the docket, the Diamondbacks outfielders and a few more. Should
be a very good conversation, lots of live look type
of things. So Chris Blessing from Baseball HQ joining me

(01:44):
on this prospect one this week. Things are getting very
interesting in the minor league streets. We're getting a little
bit more on the sample sizes, which is great. We've
also got rookie ball looming next week. I'm gonna do
something for rookie ball starting up. I'll also be on
James Anderson's Road a Wire podcast, but we're going to
look and preview what the as the rosters are kind
of finalizing themselves, but you know, getting almost a full

(02:07):
month in of minor league ball is just really helping
kind of identifying the changes that we want to make
on some of the ranks. We're also seeing some graduations
players going up as well. Nick Kurtz, congratulations. That was
one that you know, of all the beginning of the year,
changes of like being careful of not going too crazy,
making sure that you're you know, jumping on opportunities as

(02:29):
players go up. But really a lot of prospect rankers
are just like, all right, let's not go Berzerko and
be a prisoner of the moment. The one prisoner of
the moment guy was Nick Kurtz. You're like, oh, he
got the most aggressive assignment. He is the hottest minor
leaguer in all the land. He is meeting every single test,
the eye test, the stats sheet test, so much so

(02:52):
that the team also started moving some of their stars
to make sure he had room for him. And then
he gets the call up and they're gonna play him.
Ey da, You're not going to be in like a
platoon situation. So Nick Kurtz is definitely I would say,
I would say from like a significance factor, one of
the highest risers, and we kind of made that change
right off the top, especially from Redraft and everything. But

(03:13):
congrats to him. You know, I got to see him
in the AFL, got to see him a little bit
during spring training, and we're already there. It's immensely incredible,
and I moved him up pretty aggressively. I think I've
got him. I think I moved him top ten. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah,
even a little bit more further in there. So he
had moved inside the top ten, and you know, legitimately
he belongs in the class of like Roman Anthem and them.

(03:34):
I wouldn't actually kill anybody if they were like, hey,
Nick Kurtz is like number three on the list, a
little bit first base wonky sometimes like you what you
have to do and who you have to be as
a hitter to you know, to be, especially as the
first baseman to be that high. But he's kind of
got a lot of that. So Nick Kurtz up. Also
shout out to a favorite that's been on here in

(03:55):
Prospect one for a long time, but Augustin Ramirez with
now the Miami Marlins, someone that really last year we
kind of became obsessed with with just the hit tool.
The evs were just you know, big strong evs, all
your consistent EV's one of those EV fifty type of guys.
Some strikeout contact things were always looming, but really super

(04:16):
athletic as well. Steel's bases I believe it was I'm
not looking at the total stat sheet, but like close
to twenty ish or twenty two. Maybe it was last
year in the minors. So far this year average was
down a tiny bit or on two fifty four, but
he had stolen five bases, three homers, and he got
the call. He got the call to the majors with
the Marlins and came out swinging, stole the base in

(04:37):
his first game, attempted a base in his second. Doubles
not striking out. Looks great, looks like it's a really
really big win for a couple, just like the you know,
the early guys on the call ups. You know, there's
some other stuff out there as well. I mean we
could be talking about, you know, I think some other
players in the short season that are on the rise.

(04:57):
Leo Devrees just hit for the cycle five for five.
It was eight RBI performance hitting for the cycle. Arrows
up Man Bryce Eldridge back at double A after I
saw him here. Homer and his first at bat up arrow,
JJ weatherhold up arrow, Jack cagleone two hits off of
Clayton Kershaw. I mean in a rehabit signment, it's not

(05:19):
the same Clayton Kershaw. But arrow up, dude, fellmon Selston,
big game, Arrow up, Jordan Lawler. Maybe it's starting to click.
Arrow up. Luke Keishall going to the majors as well.
So there's a lot of like you know, at the
top tippy top arrows up, while there are some players
that are you know the obviously, what I'm gonna say

(05:39):
is like the arrow is coming down on some guys,
whether it's like miss time or you know, we're gonna
talk about Xavier Isaac. There's a little bit of like
a arrow down. I think that's kind of pointed in
his direction right now. Charlie Condon's got like we're gonna
also mention him, he's got a real big arrow that's
pointing down. Quinn Matthews has had some vlow lows and

(06:02):
then on top of all of it, I would say
one of the biggest arrows up of any other player
besides Nick Kurtz who we mentioned. I think it was
on the last episode. Louis Pena. You know, Louis Pena
with the Brewers. They're doing it again. Three sixty seven
now up to twelve stolen bases an almost thousand. OPS
nine ninety nine, you know, on sale. We'll call it
the on sale Ops nine ninety nine got a homer,

(06:25):
hitting some doubles extra base at six double. As a
matter of fact, seven of his eighteen hits are extra
base right now. They got the dude, so his madi
looks good. But Louis Paena flying up board. So that's
like just a by the way, just a brief little
look at, you know, some of the guys in this
early onset that have either positively or negatively affected the ranks.

(06:46):
They'll come out and then I'll probably next week maybe
do a look at one month into the season with
a Rookie Ball preview. So that's going to kind of
be on the docket for the next little bit. But
I don't need to sing here too along with you guys,
because we got Chris Blessing, nice long conversation with a
set of players, a host of players that I talked about,

(07:07):
but I like to intertwine them with like a wo'd
you rather? Where are you sitting on that? So we
are going to do that. I want to tell you though,
check out sids grafs episodes brought to you by sids Grafs.
Of course you can check all of his great stuff
out and their stuff at sids grafs on social, on
the website and on eBay. With all these great prospects
some others looming out there. Always excited to tell you

(07:28):
whenever I get the word on whether it's you know,
these major leaguers like he did the it was a
Jake Berger and a Michael King signing or big prospects,
and I will always let you know. But go and
check out and peruse for yourself, whether it's cards, balls,
jerseys or whatever. Check it out today sids Grafs. But
let's take a break and when we come back, it's
Chris Blessing from Baseball HQ. The eyes have got it,

(07:52):
my friends. We're doing some live looks.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Say I like you.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
I like you so much, I'm going to make you
mind pot. All you have to do is find the
golden and I'll share it with you.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
Fifty to fifty prospect.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
What we're getting some live looks from the field with
a very very very great baseball mind and a very
good friend of mine. He is Chris Blessing. See Underscore
Blessing on the X if you want to check it out.
Of course, all his work over at Baseball HQ. Mister
Chris Blessing, it is great to see you, my friend.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
It's good seeing you. I got to see you before
my achille surgery in November, so anybody like that was
the last baseball I saw himtil like two weeks ago.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
So well, I was about to say, really, but no,
that makes sense. There wasn't like a ton unless you
were doing spring train.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
It wasn't. But I usually go to spring training. I
usually do a lot of like amateur stuff, college, high
school stuff around here, and it really kind of just
got cleared about a week before the season to do
some work. So I'm so excited in the four games
so far, look forward to going another twenty five more twenty.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
Four, twenty five next month, right, you got to get
to a lot.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Like twenty five, Like, yeah, if I get to twenty
five games with the video that we have these days,
I can pretty much cover what I need to cover. Yeah,
it's funny.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
It's funny. I was actually talking with someone about that.
I you know some friends out here locally that will
come to games and talking about like, I think it
was the very first extended spring training game that I
went to. It was a Diamondbacks and there were a
couple of scouts there and it was like a royal scout.
And he was kind of like whoa. He's like, look,
there's like a royal scout and I was like, yeah,
I'm like it's funny. I know how that feels. But
I'm like, you got to remember, guys are coming out

(09:35):
to these games to just check off, check the boxes off,
like it doesn't matter. It's not like ooh, the royals
are here to see like you know, bop bop type
of player. You'll have like a local area person that
is like, oh, I want to check off all these
guys to see And that's kind of how that process works.
And the same thing for guys like us. It's like
we want to get some eyes on as many players

(09:55):
that are possible. And luckily, you know, you have a
different perspective of it too, just because you've got the
intertwining minor league parks that are kind of generally around you.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
Yes, and like Michael is, to get one live look.
At least I'm in leagues unlike where you're at that
have video accessible to the public, so like I can
get that video. If a guy starting, I want to
see him, a starting pitcher, I want to see him live.
If it's a big known reliever, I want to see

(10:26):
him live. So I'll go to maybe more than one
game during a series. Last series, I went to three
Birmingham games. But the reason I went to three Birmingham
games is two of the people we're going to talk about,
in Grant Taylor. We're starting. So like I got three starters,
but I'll be honest, like all the hitters, I probably
just need to see once because I've seen him before.

(10:50):
I also have you know, I have video that I
can go look at, so I make sure I get
my side profiles and all that stuff, and then go
home spice that can splice that together for my scouting
purposes and do the rest off video. You can do
eighty five percent off video, which is incredible. Team percent

(11:12):
that I think is so important to get live looks for.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
And that's something you and I've always talked about We've
always kind of talked about that fifteen percent because it
really is amazing. I've had people that have tracked players
information off of videos I've put out. They've been like, oh,
look this guy is you know, bump up up home
to first, you know, and they're taking times and you're
looking at swings and stuff like that. But yeah, there's
always the intangibles that we will talk about. It's consistency

(11:38):
over bats or how they you know, maybe like how
they approach themselves getting into a bat or around other players,
and the intangibles are kind of fun. So it is
always fun to look at some of these live looks.
And we're going to look at quite a few players
as far as the live look perspective goes, and we're
going to talk about just a couple other fun performances
that are going out there. Since I've got you, and
we got some big pitching stuff to talk about. It's

(12:00):
gonna be a little White Sox heavy, So the White
Sox fans will be happy about that, but also anybody
in like the prospecting world. The White Sox have now
have one of like the best systems and they've got
this influx of players that are going to be coming
up in the next year or two where you know
that team could actually be back on their rise. And
we've seen plenty of teams that have just built around

(12:21):
some youth and just kind of regroup. The Reds have
done a good job about that, and we've got a
handful of dudes. But the big thing that's going down
with the White Sox are going to be the pitchers.
The top three pitchers, and you actually were I think
are able to get Could you saw Hagen? Correct?

Speaker 3 (12:36):
Yeah, I saw Hagen Smith as well. I only I
only got two thirds of an aiming, but I got
a bunch of pitches because he basically pitch counted his
way out of.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
The game, which can happen with it. And so you
got all these guys. We don't anticipate that they're going
to move off of these players, but very very fantasy relevant,
especially the top two. Since we just mentioned Hagen, give
me your take on him, because he had one of
the more impressive outings I hit ever seen early on
after he got drafted. It's a little wonky because it
was like a lot of like rookie league, like eighteen

(13:07):
year old type of players, and he's a college kid
that came in, but he threw nothing but strikes. Even
though he was kind of known a little bit more
two pitch pitcher. He started kind of playing around with
a change up. Looked really great. He's got great stuff throws.
He gets in zone whiffs, which was kind of the
thing with him coming out of the draft. It was like,
how is that going to continue? You want to see

(13:27):
guys get whiffs outside of the zone, because like that's
great that it plays in a ball or high A
but are you going to continuously get in zone whiffs
only when you get up to the majors? That was
kind of his question. So far, he's looked great. What
did you see out of Higginsmith?

Speaker 3 (13:42):
Well, he didn't look great my start. So, like I said,
I got two thirds of the inn and gave up
two hits, two walks. He did strike out two, so
both outs. He recorded, we're on strikeouts, but a ton
of pitches. And so this week what I'm actually doing
is at Baseball HQ on Friday, I'm going to write

(14:02):
him up. I'm writing up the video scout videos, my
video look of this week and compare it to the
look that I had, which wasn't a great look. So
you have have one really good look one really bad look,
and how do you scout that? And that's the key
thing is everything is a moment in time essentially. So

(14:24):
my moment in time, just like I had Luis Castillo
in double A just crap the bed as well, like
in the one time I got to see him, you know,
that's not the guy. So what I saw what was
good was, dude, nobody really picked up the fastball. That
was the one thing that you could really tell it's

(14:45):
coming from that low three quarter slot. He's he's on
the first base side of the rubber with crossfire, so
like it. He hides the ball, especially the right handers
and of course lefties very well. The balls coming out
in this game, he was up to ninety six. He was,
I mean I felt like he was. He had lost

(15:08):
the strike zone so much that he was really kind
of just trying to aim the ball. And I mean,
you get to a certain pitch count in the minor
leagues and even in the major leagues, and they'll take
out and even if it's the first inning and maybe
you're going seventy five pitches, but in that first inning,
you threw twenty five or thirty and they're like, oh,
we don't want to tax the arm. I saw some

(15:30):
great sliders. I also saw a bunch of sliders that
just hung there. A name that probably has it's been
maybe four or five years since he was mentioned on
the Prospect one podcast, but Austin Hedricks had a double
off of the hangar. I'll be honest, I don't think
I've ever seen Austin Hendricks go extra bases in double A.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
Have a hit. That's amazing.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
Yeah, he's for like the last two years. But like
it was a left on left matchup, and like, I mean,
his stuff wasn't crisp. Within his delivery, you could see
that his balance wasn't right, his armslot wasn't right. He
just wasn't right. He didn't come out of the bullpen right.
Fast forward to the start last week against Biloxi. Totally

(16:16):
different pitcher there was. He was, oh god, what's the
word for it, drifting. He was drifting in the start
that I saw him. His body weight was drifting different directions.
Like usually you'll see a guy who like drift to
the third base or first base, or drift back or
drift front. I was seeing a guy on one pitch
drifting to the first base side, next pitch drifting to

(16:39):
the third base side, Like it just wasn't a good game.
It was probably the worst possible look you could possibly
get at somebody. But watching him against Biloxi on video,
I saw a guy that was in control. His delivery
was in control. This stuff was good. I saw a
fastball slider. Really, that's what it's at. Right now, You've
got two pitches that are plus and then it's a

(17:01):
let's try to find the third pitch. In my scouted start,
I did not see a change up. I've heard that
he's kind of dabbled with a cutter, which makes sense,
especially from that arm angle. I mean right now, I'm
not down on him by any means, but again, my
look was just a bad look.

Speaker 2 (17:23):
So okay, let me get away. Let me ask you
on a couple, who'd you rather is? It's all very
early getting to take a look what lean Hagen Smith
or Jacob Mazowski. Smith by a wide margin.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
By a wide margin. I I've been concerned that Miserowski
is not a starter. Well, I have some concerns about
Hagen Smith's command, which I didn't really mention that I
mean that goes all the way back to Arkansas, Like
that is not something that's a huge secret. And I
do have some issues with his delivery. Specifically is arm path,

(18:01):
which has been something since Arkansas and something that I've
talked to amateur scouts about too. The the draft scouts
I should call them. They're not amateurs. They get paid.
But uh but anyway, like uh, I've all I've always
seen Minsrowski as a guy that like a better date Pearson.

(18:22):
And you see what Nate Pearson's career has been, like,
it's what it is. So I've always had mince Rowski
for the last two years kind of in that RP
bucket where I don't have Smith in that RP bucket.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
Okay, two more uh Hagen Smith or Yarlin Susana and
you can just do quick. We don't go crazy with
it Smith, okay, and then okay. So now that I
have that, I'm gonna press let's go. Now I'm saying,
as myself, let's go Hagen Smith or Quinn Matthews. Well,

(18:58):
I know is on that yell right now?

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Yeah, And you know I had Tim an Ac on
my show, who's been on Prospect won a.

Speaker 2 (19:06):
Bunch, he'll talk about Quinn Matthews. We know what his answer, Well,
here's the thing.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
He saw Quinn Matthews this summer or this spring, and
just he wasn't the same guy. Obviously there's an injury
to it and stuff, and you know, right now, I
would definitely say Smith healthy, it would be a toss
up for me.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
Okay, that's a good resounding on it. The big guy
that I wanted to talk about, and I think he
is perceivably one of the top pitching prospects in baseball,
and I'm actually going to bring up and we'll just
kind of have in the background here on the video
side your Twitter which people can check out, c Underscore Blessing,
which you got some great videos on and it's Noah Schultz.
So again, wherever Noah Schultz lies, if it's Bubba Chandler

(19:51):
and then him and I know there I had a
long conversation about Noah potentially over Rokie with Jeff Ponce
and we were kind of going back about that. But
Noah Schultz is absolutely fascinating, one of the top pitching
prospects in baseball, and some people having some expectation that
he's going to be in the majors relatively soon. Let's
hear about hear about your look as we're I'm just
kind of got a few of your videos. You'll probably

(20:13):
have other stuff on here on the video side, some
two seamer action. What do we got on Noah Schultz?

Speaker 3 (20:19):
So I feel like my scouting report is much clearer
now after seeing him. I think the first thing that
you'll notice when you're going through this video is how
far he's extending compared to previous videos. Previous seasons, he
was basically at like what six foot, six foot ten,
His extension was at six foot right now, I guess

(20:41):
it's somewhere between six three and six', Five so he's
getting closer to an average. Extension, obviously what played played
this out and why he has been so, Good there's
there is a lot of, movement you, know frame long.
Levers it's hard to see the ball with the added.

(21:04):
Extension it's playing up. Pitches it's specifically playing up the
two fast. Balls he has a four seamer and a two.
Seamers the four seamer is not that, good but like
he needs to get more, extension like that is a
key part of this whole development to get to the
levels that others are projecting him. At right, NOW i

(21:27):
have him projected mostly AT sb, two And i'll tell you.
WHY i haven't seen many tall guys make huge. Adjustments
SO i know. Wel she's An Arizona diamondbacks. Fan the
key To Randy, johnson who everybody when we think of
a tall, pitcher that's who we think. Of we think

(21:48):
about how far he just basically was so close to
home plate when he delivered his pitches like it was.
Impossible he had these arms and legs with that crossfire,
delivery like going from a low slot like this, dude
low slot like this, dude but he was stepping so far.
OUT a lot of tall guys cut themselves, off like

(22:10):
that's just The WHEN i see a six foot ten,
GUY i, saw who the heck? GUY i can't even
remember the guy's. NAME i don't think he's really a.
Prospect but a few years AGO i saw six foot
Eleven pirates prospect who was extending maybe five to eleven like,
that that was, it and he was getting beat. Up,
okay the difference between that dude and this dude is

(22:31):
a one was right, handed one was left. Handed this
dude actually has really good. Pitches it's a plus thinker
essentially two. Seamer he has a plus sweeper that he
was able to change speeds. OFF i think that was a,
big a big thing THAT i really honed in on

(22:52):
WHEN i saw. Him he also has some other. PITCHES
i like the cutter for what it. IS i think
it's his pitch against right handed hitters to keep them
off the fastball. Slider but the change up he had
solid velocity, deception but there was some early predictable. Movement

(23:12):
and so you a good change. Up you've got two
kinds of change ups that are really kind of. Prevently
you've got that airbender that we know from From, williams
the closer for The. Yankees and then you, have you,
know the firm one that that fades and drops and
that sort of. Thing. UH i believe his is to

(23:35):
be more. Firm it's not one of those real big.
Movers Hunter gaddis is another guy that has one of those,
slower you, know non firm change ups out. There, Uh
i'm naming relievers for whatever. Reason there are starters that
have that as. Well.

Speaker 2 (23:50):
Uh, yeah you're not you're not selling us very well.
Here you're, like, yeah here's all these, really there's all
these relief pitchers that are just Like Noah Shouls.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
Chris, No i'm not saying they're just Like i'm just
explaining the difference between the change.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
Up his change up just seeds to the.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
Firmer that's essentially what it. Is because it does have
the armside fade that you look. For it should be
a better. Tool it has the velocity velocity different the.
Separation it also has the look as. Well he might
not extends as far with the, pitch but it has the,
look especially at this, level that it should. SUCCEED i

(24:26):
have the sweeper as a future plus plus. PITCH i
have the two seam fastball is the future plus. Pitch
the cutter is a future average to above average. Pitch
the change up below average. PITCH i actually projected him
as A sb TWO sb. Three it's just to, me

(24:47):
it's going to be it's very paramount to get that,
extension an additional extension for everything to play. Up and
seeing that he's gotten four essentially four, inches it gets
four more inchest than maybe my projections MORE sb, ONE sp.
Two BUT i just don't necessarily see guys when they're

(25:08):
developing get that much extension out of their delivery while they're.
Developing another thing that might come into play is with more,
extension you tend to have lesser command as, Well so
that that's another fear THAT i do have with. THIS
i try to like. PLAYERS i saw a lot of

(25:28):
THINGS i, liked THOUGHT i thought it. CAN'T i thought
the FACT i had them on an SP rp, bucket
like there could be these different. OUTCOMES i think NOW
i have firmly an the sp. Bucket so, like WHILE
i sound down on, HIM i feel like he's established
himself enough that he's he's an sp bucket kind of.

(25:52):
Guy right.

Speaker 2 (25:52):
Now i'm laughing if anyone again the CLIPS i put
on the, YouTube But i'm laughing because it's the most
real life scout thing The blessing just said, there because
like every scout like real like there's buckets of, scouts
by the, Way LIKE i don't call myself a, scout
but LIKE i do scouty things, sometimes and there's different
levels of how people look and approach and evaluate and

(26:15):
stuff like. That but the most like real true life
scout thing is like every scout hates all the. PLAYERS
i always go back to the time in THE. AFL
i was sitting With Jeff ponds and we were talking
About i've said the story, before but talking About Gabby.
MARINO i, just you, Know gabby was just having this
is a phenomenal, year and he was just everything was
good and he was really just like not he was

(26:37):
not taking bad, hacks AND i was kind of, like,
man he just reminds me of how flat was in THE.
Afl just no bad, swings only good. Contact we're just
doing all this. Stuff and Then jeff starts talking about
him and then this just scout turns around at us
and he, goes he can't frame for, us and like
that was the only thing he. Had Like gabby was
just like all this great stuff and he was like
he can't, frame and that was his take of he

(26:59):
won't be a major League and then sure, enough that looks.
Silly but it always just makes. Me it makes me
laugh when you said that when it's just, LIKE i
want to like the, players but sometimes it sounds like
a little bit. Negative sometimes it sound.

Speaker 3 (27:10):
Negative and it's, true it's it's what it. Is BUT
i found a lot of things to like about him
while also finding some. Concerns at the same.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
Time, yeah and that's that's how it should. WORK i,
mean you want the evaluation to be as crisp as.
Possible the unique thing With, SCHULTZ i think he actually
is towing this line of fantasy to real life because
from a real life, PERSPECTIVE i think there are some you,
know some maybe concerns that kind of stare you in
the face and. Whatnot but from the fantasy, perspective you
talk about, like, oh he's getting closer to the, plate the,

(27:41):
extension it's getting. Bigger there's a huge strikeout. Potential you,
know you've got this big inside to seams sinker that
he's in a burry on guys with this, Sweeper, like
there's a lot of strike up. Potential he's got to
stay healthy and. Consistent we're kind of starting to see.
That so where he floats as far as, valuations let
me throw A Noah's schultz Or Chase. Burns which?

Speaker 3 (28:04):
Side Chase?

Speaker 2 (28:05):
Burns that was easy for, you wasn't.

Speaker 3 (28:09):
It I'm i'm a Big Chase burns. FAN i think
that the pedigree coming out Of Wake, forest He's i'm
looking so much forward to seeing him in person because
Everything i've so far had just absolutely loved from What
i've saw video even this year is he's being promoted

(28:29):
To DOUBLE a this Week he's on the. Roster UNFORTUNATELY
i won't be able to see him On. SATURDAY i
really bummed by, that BUT i have a family obligation
to go to In. Philadelphia, so LIKE i just, burns
his pedigree is so much better than Schultz faults pedigree

(28:50):
coming out of high school going through The White sox,
organization like not really like that extension thing THAT i talk,
about like a lot of other organizations would. Have you
would have saw steep improvement from the time he got
drafted to the time he made his pro debut, essentially

(29:11):
and it's now what we're in the third season Of
Noah schultz since his pro debew and we're starting to
see those changes when he was In DOUBLE. A i
just to, me even though one just doctor TRIPLE a
one's a little older or DOUBLE a one's a little older,
man having the pedigree That chase has is just going

(29:35):
to be such a blessing for him and the rest
of his.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
Development, okay so only one more Then hagen Or Noah
Hagan smith and No A.

Speaker 3 (29:44):
Schultz, ooh that's that's the hardest one because AGAIN i
saw them. Both one looked bad for, me one looked
good for, me one away from me has been pretty,
good and the other one has. Not, No schultz hasn't
been good the other two games that he's. PITCHED i

(30:05):
think Upside Noahs schultz has the has the. Win but
here's the thing, IS i think That Hagen smith's floor
is a lot. Greater and SO i hate to throw
this out, there but LIKE i have them currently ranked
as like my fifth and sixth favorite, starters and, like

(30:27):
IF i go and do that, ranking they could come
up a different way each. Time TODAY i would say No.
Schultz TOMORROW i might Say Hagen, smith if that makes.
Sense but today my answer is NO A. Schultz it's
not because of their, organization it's not because they're. Lefties
they're the. COMPARISONS i don't really compare. Them they're very

(30:49):
not similar in a lot of. Ways but Like smith does.
Things of, course he's a little more advanced having come From,
arkansas having not come from like he hasn't been in
The White sox development for a. WHILE i think The
White sox, development LIKE i finally have seen changes this

(31:10):
year That i've never seen before, That like it seems
like THEY i don't know how much they've changed their.
PHILOSOPHY i Know Brian banister came on last, year but
you're Starting i'm starting to see, things but the level
OF i, mean we're looking at twenty years of like

(31:30):
no development with The White sox and so like it's
a big you, KNOW i just don't know if it's
for real or if it's guys that are just going
to work off, site you, know kind of thing LIKE
i saw, oh what's his, Name Tyler, pitcher left handed,
Pitcher Tyler Schweltz. Sweltzer, OKAY i saw him last year

(31:56):
AND i saw him this. Year last YEAR i was
kind of like this, YEAR i put AN mlb grade on.
Him i'm, granted don't say THAT i think he's going
to be a starter or, anything but, LIKE i feel
like he's a major league pitcher. Now like the improvement
from one year to Another i've not seen in Prospect

(32:18):
christian ophor with the LOW a teams and the other,
guys that is super. Interesting LIKE i wrote up his
report and it's probably the most one of the most
like uh, Hedging LIKE i hate the report THAT i
read BECAUSE i hedged so.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
Much but you're, like he god to be a huge strikeout,
option but he could also maybe not make it to the.

Speaker 3 (32:40):
Majors but you look at, it and you look at
how much his delivery has changed through his progression from
when he was In pensacola to. Now you, know are
all these guys working at pitching labs off? Site i'm
sure some of them, have but also like it's obvious
that The White sox have done, something so LIKE i

(33:01):
can give them their their flowers and say good, work
keep it, up but, like also how much of this
improvement's really? Them and how much is it working at
labs for these players or new commitments some guys finally.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
Commit AND i can't speak one hundred percent to, it
BUT i can tell you that this whole crew of,
pitchers they were out very early with the cup with
the cut with The White, Sox like we're Talking January,
february way before anybody was out, there no major. Leaguers
they had been training at the. Facility only let's do
like a ten cent tour on this, one BECAUSE i
want to hit some of the hitters and then a

(33:34):
few of the other guys that he hadn't. Seen but
just real quick take On Grant. Taylor you got to
See Grant. Taylor he's kind of the forgotten guy in this.
List some think there's reliever in. There some think he
could maybe be the biggest bowl of all of. Them
you got to see him. Live just give us a
ten cent tour on your thoughts on Grand.

Speaker 3 (33:51):
Taylor the stuff's. Phenomenal the extension is, Elite like he gets,
Elite like you can watch it here on this little video,
Clip like it's elite. Extension like that was a slider of,
course but like, guys he's right on top of, people
like it's not it's not easy against. Him but with

(34:11):
that extension also comes command. Issues AND i JUST i
have him on the SP rp, bucket BUT i have
him leaning towards THE rp, bucket if that makes. SENSE
i feel like by the end of the year he's AN.
Rp he's a relief pitcher prospect for. Me but sall

(34:34):
a really good. Performance he was strong. Throughout it was
a three, inning three inning. Performance he was never really in.
Trouble all the pitches were pretty awesome that. Day he
was mid, nineties mostly touched ninety seven showed late ride
up the sharper break than What i've seen from his,

(34:55):
slider but there you go. AGAIN i thought the cutter
was great, Too like the cut fastball was great as.
Well even the change up surprised. Me but, AGAIN i
don't think he knows where it's, going.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
So a thrower not as much of a. PICTURE i
think he's super. INTERESTING i think he's a bulldog on.
THERE i could see him, though being at the back
end of a road of a.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
Bull.

Speaker 2 (35:20):
Yeah with how they're building this team up as, WELL
i mean you've got a couple of young guys there
outside of just even Schulzen Hagen smith of, course so
they've got some, flexibility so you know a little bit
of risk and some concern there that might be on
the relief. Side two hitters with The White sox and
then want to jump out of These White, sox so
we'll kind of plow through. This But Braid, Montgomery i've
been a Huge Braid montgomery. GUY i think he's wildly

(35:43):
underrated in first year player. DRAFTS i think he is
going to rock it up boards AND i honestly think
the trade from being A Red sox to The White
sox just kind of degraded value in a lot of people's,
minds WHICH i thought was a little bit. Silly you
got to see. Him let's hear your thoughts On Braiden. Montgomery,
well what makes what made.

Speaker 3 (36:00):
The Red sox a, successful you know spot for hitters
is their their swing swing lab. Essentially, okay, uh you
look at What Christian campbell's. Done gained a lot of
a lot of, velocity you, know a lot of swing,
SPEED i should, say and has made himself a big. Dude,

(36:21):
Right but here's the. Thing Brandon montgomery already came to
The Red sox when he when he was there with
a lot of swing, Speed like he wasn't getting any
more swing speed from some sort of spring swing lab
or something like. That so, LIKE i really kind of
feel like it was a neutral. Thing SO i development, Situations,

(36:46):
yes that they're what they, Are but what The Red
sox do. Good montgomery already did. Good so like it
was a neutral type. DEAL i Saw Brandon montgomery for a,
game watched a lot of video of him so far as.
Well i've wrote him up for the. Site my main
thing was really to see him kind of. HEALTHY i

(37:07):
got to see two plate appearances from the right, side
two plate appearances from the left, side which was good
for getting those side angles and all that good. Stuff
there's going to be some swinging miss in this, profile but,
like the power is, real it's gonna be plus. Power
better swing from the left. SIDE i think that that's,
nothing you know that surprises anybody out. There better swing

(37:32):
from the left, side but not a bad one from
the right. Side and look AT i say, that and
he's dominating left hand pitching right.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
Yeah, really he's in four to seventy one against lefties right.

Speaker 3 (37:44):
Now too, Funny, yeah, yeah well it could be also
the quality of lefties LOW a is too good for.
Him they just want to see that he's. Greed they
just want to see that he's. HEALTHY i got a
really good home the first time on. Him he seems
like he's the same guy after that gruesome injury that
he suffered in THE i think Super regionals last. Year so,

(38:07):
like kudos to. Him is going to be, power probably
not as high batting average as some of the other
first round picks around, him but like's Not he's not
going to be a total loss in THE. BA i
have him right now in our thing that you, know
the projection could be that he's an all star caliber fantasy.
PLAYER i feel like you'll fall into that solid average,

(38:31):
type the solid regular profile more where he's definitely a
draftable guy and a guy that is going to be
useful for several years to.

Speaker 2 (38:39):
Come real, quick where do you guys or you have?
Him as far as like a rank, goes is he
he's got to be the top one, Hundred like what's
the general rank? Range, YEAH i mean he's.

Speaker 3 (38:51):
He's in the top one. Hundred for, me he is
probably around the top. FIFTY i would say he's under the,
top like within the top, fifty just based on the
on the tool set and and really and truly finding
THAT i like his. Swing the longer levers are gonna
be what pauses to. Strikeouts it's not really you, know the.

(39:11):
Swing he can get long at, times of, course but
that's one of the things the long lever guys. Do
they if they don't stay, compact there's always going to
be doing in this.

Speaker 2 (39:22):
Issues, okay so let's do a quick would you Rather
i'm trying to save IF i want? It which? One all,
Right let's just do this one after About Braid montgomery
Or Johnny Fermelo. Montgomery, okay, Uh Braid montgomery Or Charlie.

Speaker 3 (39:37):
Condon montgomery by a, lot by a.

Speaker 2 (39:41):
Lot, okay that seems to be a, consensus consensus that's going.

Speaker 3 (39:44):
On, yeah that's what people. Here here's the great. THING
i was on, This Charlie condon before he even, Debuted,
uh the fact that the guy had dominated a place
where right, handers every right handed hitter at fully field hits, well,
okay like it's just what it. Is That's UGA's home.

(40:05):
Field number, Two every place in THE sec is a band,
box except for Maybe, Vanderbilt like it's all a bandbox.
There and then number three there was a like he
drops his hands in his in his, trigger like that
can't be. GOOD i thought he was a first round,
pick BUT i did not have him in my top,

(40:27):
five top ten like everybody else BECAUSE i just was
Really and he's in a terrible development situation with the roster.

Speaker 2 (40:36):
Just the way Like i'll probably get to see him,
soon but, yeah he's out here rehabbing With Robert klaws
actually him and here about. That but, yeah couldn't couldn't
be a worse development unless it was The angels it's
Like angels And rockies are like bottom rang of like
minor league.

Speaker 3 (40:49):
Development But i'll say, this once you Get angels prospects
up to DOUBLE, a TRIPLE a major, LEAGUES i think
they have good. Developers they they seem to have put
their better player development closer to the big, leagues which
to me is, insane but like it just seems that.

Speaker 2 (41:07):
Way one last one on this as far as this
live look go Is Caleb. BONNOMER i had my Boy
vinnie down on the farm talking big up On Caleb.
BARNAMER i get to see him In campa decent. Amount quick.
Take do you Think bonamer is on the way up this?
Year he's an up and common riser that people need
to be paying attention.

Speaker 3 (41:25):
To Most, DEFINITELY i think that he's A i think
he's hit over power by a. LOT i think he's
actually going to be a better like real life baseball
player than fantasy. Player but his swings geared currently to
right center. Field got to see got to see him
extend his hands and get it. Double in my, Look

(41:46):
i've looked at some videos, too that just seems where
it is they'll have to work on his lower half
to get him to probably pull a little more and
then maybe he becomes an interesting fantasy. Guy but he
was a dude THAT i really. LIKED i didn't expect
him to be as advanced with his swing mechanics and
that sort of thing usually in low at even the

(42:11):
guys that are first second, rounders and especially in this,
DRAFT i kind of thought THAT i see a cruider player.
This this guy is somebody who probably can perform in
HIGH a right, now if you, know not in a short,
sample BUT i mean over a, Season LIKE i feel
like LOW a might be a child's play to him

(42:33):
over a full.

Speaker 2 (42:34):
SEASON a guy that you saw that in my il
on The patreon, world in the prospect one. Room this
is the consistent quote that goes around this guy is
that wherever you have him, ranked it's too. Low and
that player Is South, stewart AND i believe you got
some some looks on. Him tutelage With Mary, machado two,

(42:55):
homer six stolen, bases hitting around three. Hundred he's in
DOUBLE a right. Now do you think wherever we all
have Sal stewart is too?

Speaker 3 (43:03):
Low, NO i. DON'T i think he's a very GOOD
i think he's a very good minor league. HITTER i
think that's what it. Is he's very, smart very. Like
but we're not talking about flus bat. Speed we're not
talking about a guy that's going to excite us on
exit velocity ninety percentile x, velocite that sort of. Thing

(43:26):
he's going to be a major. Leaguer he's probably an
average regular for, ME i don't have average regulars in
my top one. HUNDRED i want to project guys that
are going to be solid regulars and that sort of.
Thing he's a bigger. Kid, defensively he doesn't really have
a HOME i got three game look at, him two
games at third, base one game AT, dh so obviously

(43:48):
not you, Know i'm not getting good defense out OF,
dh you, know and those. Looks BUT i saw a
guy that didn't react really. Well so second. BASE i
don't know if he would have the range a second,
base but he has the. Profile you. KNOW i was
talking To scott recently and we were joking about how
every second basement either steals a bunch of bases or

(44:10):
hits about twenty home. Runs and then you, Know South
stewart's going to be a guy that hits probably about
twenty home. Runs but like it's just not going to
be a real to, me it's not a sexy. PROFILE
i want this guy to hit the ball. HARDER i
saw him hit a grand slam off Of Peyton, palette
the former white SIZE i think second or third, rounder

(44:32):
and he just ambuh like he looked. Fastball he ambushed
a fastball like he knew exactly what was. COMING i,
MEAN i KNEW i should have put up my. Camera
LIKE i even joked to myself like he's probably going
to hit this out of the, ballpark AND i mean
he just absolutely destroyed. It but like once you get
to the major leagues that that sort of predictability goes.

(44:53):
Away so like where is this? GUY i just don't
necessarily see him As like there's a lot of good
Heights college are minor league. Hitters we've seen what Ty
france has done in his. Career are we rostering Ty
france right? Now Ty france was a very like had

(45:14):
a very similar exit velocities that sort of thing To
South stuart when he was coming. Up probably not as
good of an, eye but like that that's what you're looking.
At so, like AM i going to go out on
a limb on a guy THAT i think is better Than,
south than Ty, france AND i can't find that next

(45:34):
guy THAT i think he's, better then does that make? Sense,
like so that's WHY i have him as an average
regular place, again a very good minor league, Hitter and
that's that's. OKAY i know some scouts that absolutely do
not like this. PROFILE i know prospect. WRITERS i had
one of them on my, profile AND i invite anybody

(45:56):
to go back to the episode of The eyes have
a podcast With eric And. Agan eric AND i share
the same feelings About South, stewart and he's seems say
a lot more THAN i. Have it's just to, me
there's not that explosion. There if there was explosion at
third base or at second, base maybe Maybe i'm higher
up on WHERE i see. Him but guys like This

(46:20):
i've been right about more times than wrong than. Wrong
i'm okay being wrong about. This uh you. KNOW i
think the last guy THAT i kind of felt LIKE
i was behind everybody else on Was Christian carnasi on,
strand like everybody was really really excited about, him AND

(46:41):
i just, was, LIKE i see. IT i thought he
was a really good minor league, hitter AND i don't
even know how he's done in the big. LEAGUES i
know people aren't really naming him. OFF i don't see
him on draft as. High, yeah he's injured a, lot
but LIKE i, mean it's been, consistent you, know it's
been a consistent. Profile but at a position EITHER dh

(47:05):
or at a corner. Infield it's not something that you're
rostering in your lineup as a top, twelve top fifteen.

Speaker 2 (47:12):
GUY i never LOVED i never Loved strand, either by the,
way like just throwing him out there as a SECOND
i just remember in THE. Afl i'd have told this,
before BUT i asked him because he was playing some
outfield out, there AND i asked him and, said how
do you like an? Outfield and he's, LIKE i, don't
and you just like. Affirmatively he's a little bit of
a moody, guy but he was, like affirmatively LIKE i

(47:34):
don't like playing the. Outfield there's only so many. SPOTS
i didn't really like him in THE afl as. Much
he's oft, injured doesn't like to play the. OUTFIELD i
think sells a little bit more of a gamer on.
That CAN i ask you real quick on play?

Speaker 3 (47:47):
Gamer he's definitely a.

Speaker 2 (47:48):
Gamer so, yeah how about versus his own. Teammate whould
you Rather Sal stewart Or Cam collier.

Speaker 3 (47:56):
At just being? BLOODY i hate? Too, well, man that's
a that's a hard. ONE i Have callier because the
upside of potential. HIGHER i, ALSO i mean there's a,
lot there's a lot To, again it's when you're trying
to you try to remember to really like a lot

(48:16):
of things about, Players like you've got to like a
player to, care you know WHAT i. Mean, Uh and
there's things THAT i, like BUT i always things always,
Overshadow like, MAN i really thought, that Like i've never
seen can Call you're good like in my? Looks does
that make? Sense so it's hard for me to like

(48:38):
These BUT i also see the upside as. Well there
there's obviously more upside than Than. Stewart but, like, MAN
i hate to say, this BUT i might go with
South stewart at this, point you, KNOW i, KNOW i
just flip. Clopped but Like South, STEWART i Think explore
is so, much so much greater Where Camp collier could

(49:01):
be a guy that just, man he's a bad body
for first or. Third like it's it's it's hard to,
Verify like we're going to talk about the next guy and, like,
YEAH i always going to use a line for, him
and we'll use the line right. Now BUT i could
say this For cam call here. Too it's a really

(49:24):
hard profile to. Verify corner infield and hardest profile to, verify.

Speaker 2 (49:33):
Especially from a real scouting. PERSPECTIVE i mean something you
will always get in when you talk to like people
that are deep in the game like that is like
corner infield And, longenhegen you would always kind of hear.
It like anytime there was a guy that was like
a first base only, prospect they just get. Dinged it
wasn't just about the. Bat they have to do so
much with the bat to carry. It so the would
you rather let's do a couple of quick hitters here

(49:53):
on some really hot players right? Now but this is
a perfect transition OF i wanted to talk about this,
guy but how about This stuart OR cj CAS cj
capis yeah right now in DOUBLE a, okay five HUNDRED,
OBP a couple stolen, bases twelve hundred ops going, Ridiculous
you're Saying cafus over Salth.

Speaker 3 (50:13):
Stewart, YEAH i didn't.

Speaker 2 (50:15):
Stutter, yeah.

Speaker 3 (50:18):
And the reason for that is look at cafus compare
a video from last year to this. Year, yes we're
looking at a short sample right, now, obviously but this
guy has physically could. Change like he's physically a different
guy than he was last, year and it's very obvious
he's THINGS i. LIKE i like the fact that he

(50:43):
consistently makes hard, contact one of the things THAT i
can't necessarily say About South. Stewart, SECONDLY i feel like
he has the same sort of plate discipline as well
As stuart. Too but again we're talking about first base
only he's left, handed so we don't ding him for

(51:03):
being right. HANDED i hate to say, that but like
a right handed first. Baseman like people THOUGHT i was
insane WHEN i was Touting Pete alonzo when he was
In HIGH a Or LOW a or wherever it. WAS
i think it Was Saint. Lucy i'm not quite. Sure
it's been a. While i've slept a lot since, then

(51:25):
but people THOUGHT i WAS i was, Crazy but like
there were things going. On that guy was making major,
adjustments and so FAR. Cj kfiss has made some good
adjustments to the left handed hitting first base. Prospect the
thing that has yet to come is that over the
over the fence power where we saw seventeen home runs

(51:48):
last year combine two. Levels he's, in, uh he's in
DOUBLE a right. Now it's it's a very linear, swing
lots of line drive. Contact he's already hit up bunch of,
triples which is kind of. Funny but like they he's
a hard guy to defend because because of the way
he can spread the ball around the. Ballpark so in,

(52:13):
fantasy might not be the strongest. Guy but LIKE i feel,
like especially with The guardians organization that has had a
hard time developing corner. PLAYERS i think we can say
that Like Jose ramirez was a shortstop folks like, that you,
know and then he got kind of big and stocky

(52:34):
and whatever kind of. Thing but like they don't develop corner,
product you, know prospects that often Like Josh, naylor came from.
Elsewhere like it's just not something that this organization has
been very successful at. Doing but they don't care about
a guy that's only hitting seventeen home runs a season

(52:56):
out of first base because they feel like they can
get those other. Ways we saw a team that didn't
hit as many home runs as the rest of the
playoff teams make it to the playoffs in what twenty twenty,
one twenty twenty, TWO i forget which year they MADE
i think it was twenty, two and then last year
they added a little more, power but they weren't they,

(53:16):
weren't you, know slugging the ball that much over the,
plate over the over the. Fence except For ramirez And, Naylor,
like this is a team that is okay with living
without much. Power so LIKE i feel like his, also
like his path to being a regular player is a
lot clearer to me than it is For South.

Speaker 2 (53:37):
Stewart, yeah And manzarto can be THE Dh cafis can
come in and be their New Josh naylor one quick
one cafus or this might be super Easy cafus Or Xavier.

Speaker 3 (53:46):
Isaac I'm i'm still on The Xavier. Isaac, LIKE i
just like. HIM i think THAT i think that his
issues are trying to The rays trying to do something
with him and try to transform. Him The raids are
going to take their time developing they always. Do they

(54:08):
take their time developing. Players just Because Junior Kevin arrow
went through so, quick that's not the norm in that.
Organization they're less stat driven in the minor leagues than anybody.

Speaker 2 (54:20):
Else All, right we got two last things we're going to.
Do would you rather at the end so we can
kind of jump through. These this is just one singular
NAME i want to throw out to, you, obviously the
talk of the. TOWN i saw him in THE. Afl
that player Is Zayre hope has kind of taken the
prospecting world by storm into last. Year was incredible in

(54:42):
THE afl this, year kind of meeting the call. Again
he got a high a. Assignment he's hitting three twenty, eight
four homers for stolen. BASES i was a little worried
that he might be an only fastball hitter because he
got just eight up by everything non fastballs in THE.
Afl but he. Is he's rocking it right. Now What
i'm presenting to you and in the real prospect the

(55:04):
world slash, fantasy the question is is Your hope a
slam dunk note out top twenty five prospect in.

Speaker 3 (55:09):
BASEBALL i ranked him eleventh in the off season AT
i think eleven tenth or eleventh At. LINDY'S i right
The Lindy's baseball preview of the phenom list in that,
magazine AND i had him ranked either tenth.

Speaker 2 (55:24):
Or is he a top? Ten SORRY i, Misspoke. Chris
is he a no doubt slam dunk top ten? Prospect,
YES i.

Speaker 3 (55:31):
BELIEVE i. BELIEVE i believe he. Is the guy hits
the ball at such a. VELOCITY i think he has
a better hit tool than what some people were giving
him credit. FOR i just and you also believe in
the development situation as. Well is he a center. Fielder probably.
NOT i mean he's really bulked up. TREMENDOUSLY i think

(55:52):
he's a corner. Outfielder but it, Works it will work
there right. Field the guy will be able to play.
There just absolutely hurts like AND i feel, like, again
there's more of a hit tool. THERE i don't feel
like he's going to strike out an astronomical. RATE i
feel like his bath that's going to be high because
he's just going to put good wood on. Balls like

(56:14):
like him a. Lot he's a top ten guy for.

Speaker 2 (56:16):
Me Zaire hope Or.

Speaker 3 (56:20):
Leo. Devrees, UH i Like hope. BETTER i Like. DEBREES
i Mean debrees real life baseball, player you, know does
a lot of good things and. STUFF i was really
impressed with how mature seemed in the in the in the,
Infield but for, Fantasy i'm going With.

Speaker 2 (56:40):
HOPE i like, that all. Right last, one it's a
we've talked. To i've been talking about. It it's obviously
like a little bit self. Serving we've had this. Debate
it's funny because It's i've been The Slight caldwell. Guy
James anderson has been The Ryan waldschmidt. Guy we both
have kind of flip flopped them. Both they're off to incredible.
Starts we've got Low A, Slade we've got high a

(57:01):
four For. Ryan but the really interesting thing about it
Is slade is like absolutely destroying Low a right. Now
he's got a, homer three stolen, bases hit three fifty
six over five HUNDRED, obp which is. Crazy, also nine
of his sixteen hits are extra. Bases he has seven,

(57:21):
doubles a triple and a, homer and the old adage
of doubles being, future you, know power. Potential he is
a small. Guy he is smaller than he has. LISTED
i can tell you. That And Ryan, waldschmidt on the other,
end is looking like a complete. Player who would you
Rather Slade caldwell Or Ryan. Waldschmidt it's gotten a lot.

Speaker 3 (57:40):
CLOSER i. WAS i was a. LOT i was like,
YOU i was really on The caldwell, bandwagon especially when
he got. DRAFTED i THINK i think he got dinged
for reasons he shouldn't have been digged. For in the,
DRAFT i felt like he was a much higher pick
than where he was selected at twenty. Ninth, OVERALL i
felt like he was top twenty at. Least so good

(58:02):
work by The diamondbacks getting that signed and all that good.
Stuff he's still only eighteen years. Old the thing is
he's not going to get much. Stronger that's just what it.
Is he's close to physical projection in my. Eyes but
here's the. Thing the dude has always hit the ball
hard and has hit the ball hard this. Year it's

(58:23):
evident and. Stuff BUT i think there's a lot of
power project projection. Here probably, not but LIKE i feel
like people are downsizing, it like kind of just looking
through these, glasses seeing his, heights seeing his weight and thinking, that,
hey he's not going to be at least an average power.
Guy this profile is an average power guy is a

(58:45):
pretty big deal because he's going to play center field
and he's going to steal some bases as. Well this
is supposed to an eighteen year old in LOW a
is pretty.

Speaker 2 (58:56):
AGGRESSIVE i, KNOW i thought he was gonna be in rookie,
ball to be, Honest i'm was kind of.

Speaker 3 (59:00):
Surprised, Uh and, honestly he's probably going to be In
HIGH a by the end of the. Year like this
is this is a kid that's going to go. Up
i've Liked i've the swing. CHANGES i looked at some,
videos SO i haven't been as familiar with Wals schmidt
as as other, Guys LIKE i saw him during his
draft year And i've seen some videos since then and.

(59:20):
Stuff But waldschmidt swings much different this. Year he's attacking
balls at a very high pace right. Now we want
to see if it's beyond the short, sample of, course
but like there's been a change in him of maturity
that has happened just at the right. Time like he's

(59:41):
a guy that's probably not long For HIGH a. EITHER
i think these guys are both wins for the for
The diamondbacks. ORGANIZATION i think they'll make up for some
some of the more questionable draft picks that they've had
over the last few. Years And i'm not saying That
Drew jones was. QUESTIONABLE i think everybody had him as
their top of, one top. THIRTY i mean he is looking,

(01:00:02):
better but like you, see really that value probably not
probably will never get back, there WON'T i say probably
ninety nine point he doesn't get back to that that.
Upside but The diamondbacks did well to draft guys that
how the higher floors and are are. Showing and just

(01:00:22):
because you're in high school doesn't mean you don't have
a high, floor And caldwell has a very high. Floor and,
uh to see him the debut the way he has
has been.

Speaker 2 (01:00:32):
Tremendous, okay so one quick One slade Or Jet, Williams
jet moving to center more another small guy that. Speed
there's actually some some weird irony similarities to these, guys
Except jet was more of a middle infield. Guy jet
Or Slade, man.

Speaker 3 (01:00:50):
That's a that's a tough. One i'd still go With
jet just because just because it's a higher level at this,
point But yet's showing it's closer than really realistic BECAUSE
i kind OF i Had jet in my top fifty this,
offseason AND i don't know if he's in my top

(01:01:11):
fifty right. Now just watching some of the spring training,
evats also seeing that there's maybe more swing and miss
there when you're a shorter guy with more swing and.
Miss that's very. Concerning you should not swing and miss
that much when you're five foot. Six i'm just saying.
That and that's.

Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
Late late is listed at five to. Nine he is
probably five foot, six five foot, seven and that.

Speaker 3 (01:01:34):
And and and Jets jets listed at five, seven so
he might be five five five. Six it's. INTERESTING i.
HAVE i have a friend THAT i WHEN i was
Scouting Ozzie, ALBI'S i just, said how tall are? You
he's like five six and a. HALF i, said go
stand next To Ozzy albi's. Right, Now ozzy was on
concrete and, cleats so that gives you about an inch,

(01:01:54):
taller you know type. Thing it comes up to, Me he's,
Like i'm literally the same. HEIGHT i, said he's five to.
Five and then like.

Speaker 2 (01:02:01):
The liberal uses of height in baseball is not.

Speaker 3 (01:02:05):
BUT i would venture to Say william's height is more
accurate than. Slaves we'll see what they really are when
they get the TRIPLE a when they have to be
measured for the strike.

Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
Zone that's, Right and you, know, hey The eyes have
it for his real height and The eyes have it
on the podcast Like Chris blessing with The eyes having
a podcast over On BASEBALL. Hq anything you want to
plug what's going ON hq or The eyes got The
eyes have?

Speaker 3 (01:02:30):
It just you. KNOW i Have Tim kannak on this.
Week podcasts just went live this week this. Morning, Actually
i'll Have Jesse, severe presspect guy on this next. Week
he's helping us out At BASEBALL hq is one of
our minors. Writers that's, right that's.

Speaker 2 (01:02:49):
Right, yeah you, guys you did it, Right you guys
did it.

Speaker 3 (01:02:51):
Good JUST i found somebody THAT i enjoyed talking to
on his podcast And Dynasty sports here On prospect one
network or Not prospect one on your in this, league
it's in this, whatever but that's your. BRAND i should know.
That but, yeah those are my next two. EPISODES i

(01:03:13):
got The Hagen smith thing coming. Up i'll have a
lot of good live looks In, may probably hopefully get
more hitter. Looks All i'm seeing on the schedule right
now are pitching and it's bothered me, because Like i'd
rather have hitting looks because there's so much easier to. Do,
really even THOUGH i feel Like i'm a better scout for,
pitching but for. Hitting they're just easier to put.

Speaker 2 (01:03:36):
Together, Now i've talked about that, Recently Like i'm actually,
Leaning i'm trying to lean a little bit more into
maybe like the more hitter evaluation BECAUSE i feel, like
especially in, fantasy everybody is a pitching, analyst AND i
really enjoy the analysis of hitting at the lower levels and.
Stuff but be on the lookout for. That be on
the lookout for those, podcasts great Episodes BASEBALL hq and

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
