Speaker 1 (00:07):
Hi there and welcome
to Proverbs 31-1 and B, where we
discuss Biblical womanhood inour constantly busy and
sometimes crazy daily life.
I'm Alexis Hieslop and, as awife and mother of two, I am
always striving and praying tobe a Proverbs 31 woman of faith.
Last week you heard mytestimony of how God used my
life experiences to draw me backto Him.
(00:29):
If you missed last week'sepisode, please take a pause, go
back and listen, because youdon't want to miss out.
Part of that drawing back toGod was seeing whether or not I
would stand by my convictionthat all life is sacred, from
womb to tomb.
And although it wasn't easy andtemptations were there, I drew
(00:52):
into the Word and rediscoveredthe love that our Creator has
for His creation, includingmyself, my children and others
in my community, from the oldestto the youngest.
But the world around us doesn'tsee the value in the most
vulnerable in our communities.
Although Roe vs Wade wasappealed in the Supreme Court,
(01:17):
which is a great first step, states still have the ability to
decide whether or not to keepabortion legal in their borders.
On top of the legal standing inour country, whenever someone
even mentions their stance onabortion, you either get one of
two things, depending on yourstance you either get praise for
(01:42):
being a champion of what theworld believes or you get the
complete opposite you'rebelittled, you are bashed and
you are called a just hypocritewho is behind in the times, and
you get cancelled because you goagainst the tide of the world.
(02:04):
I can see why some of you guys, who love life and want all life
to be valued at all stages, might be slow to speak out on
this.
You don't want to lose yourfriends over this.
You don't want to upset familymembers who disagree with you,
(02:25):
and maybe you're afraid of whatyour boss would do if you took a
more vocal stance.
You don't want to ruffle thefeathers, and I totally get that
because I've been there myself.
But I also know that Jesus saysthat we are to go out and teach
others and to not be afraid, even if it means you lose some
(02:46):
friends in the process.
And Matthew 5, verses 11 and 12, Jesus says God blesses you
when people mock you andpersecute you and lie about you
and say all sorts of evil thingsagainst you, because you are my
followers.
Be happy about it, be very glad, for a great reward awaits you
(03:09):
in heaven, and remember thatancient prophets were persecuted
.
In the same way, people whostand up for the gospel of Jesus
have been ridiculed.
They've been persecuted andsometimes even martyred because
they weren't willing to let goof the truth of the gospel.
11 out of the 12 apostles werekilled for their faith.
(03:34):
People have been arrested forsimply praying in front of an
abortion clinic in Europe.
The beast that is social mediatries to ruin people's careers
over their stances on abortion.
Businesses are providing moreattention and more care to
(03:54):
providing support and servicesand time off for women who work
in their company to have anabortion, rather than providing
support for women who arerequesting maternity leave.
And yet those who know thetruth that life is precious from
the womb to the tomb continueto put themselves in the line of
(04:17):
fire to protect those who needit most.
Some of you are probablythinking oh, you know, all of
this sounds right and good, buthow can I go about standing for
life in our communities and inour world when it's so counter
(04:39):
cultural to what everyonebelieves in nowadays?
What are some things that I cando to be an advocate for the
vulnerable?
Does one person saying no toabortion really make a
difference?
Today, we are going to start toexplore just that.
Let's dive on in If you'regoing to be advocating for the
(05:08):
vulnerable in our community.
There is so much out there aboutabortion, whether it's on
social media, on a website oreven on our new stations, and
there's so much information and, from my experiences, a lot of
people will give their opinionson abortion without even knowing
(05:31):
how an abortion procedure works, how abortion affects the woman
who has had an abortion, andwithout the knowledge of just
how much organizations likePlanned Parenthood profit from
abortions.
I have in the show notes linksfor studies and articles that go
(05:56):
in depth on these subjects, soplease, after this podcast, take
a look and do a deep dive.
I'll share with you some of thestatistics and facts that stood
out to me.
Approximately 3,000 abortionstake place every single day.
Planned Parenthood states intheir 2020-2021 annual report
(06:20):
that they provided 383,460abortions in this fiscal year.
In their 2019-2020 report, itshowed that abortion made up
96.6% of Planned Parenthood'spregnancy resolution services,
(06:41):
while prenatal services, miscarriage care and adoption
referrals accounted for only2.2%, 0.7% and 0.5% respectively
.
The report also shows thatPlanned Parenthood has more than
(07:02):
$2.1 billion in net assets, from $2 billion the previous
year.
If you are wanting to know howan abortion procedure works, I
have a link below in the shownotes that explains abortion
procedures in great detail.
I will not go into details onthis show since it is graphic
(07:29):
and potentially very upsettingand I know many viewers have
small children, but please takethe time to learn about how an
abortion procedure works so thatyou can have an educated
discussion, or potentially aproductive discussion, with
(07:49):
someone in the future onabortion, or, if you ever have
the chance and opportunity towitness to someone who has had
an abortion themselves, then youwill be able to understand the
trauma that they have gonethrough.
So please take a look at thatarticle that I have in the link
down below.
Women who have abortions are81% more likely to experience
(08:16):
mental health problems, including, but not limited to,
suicide, depression, insomniaand substance abuse.
Along with the risks abortionposes to mental health, there
are also an extensive amount ofrisks to the physical health of
a woman, including, but also notlimited to, damage to the
(08:41):
cervix, persistent bleeding, scarring of the uterine lining,
future premature births ormiscarriage and an increased
risk for breast cancer.
I know I just threw a bunch ofinformation out to you, but
(09:04):
unless we have the knowledgeabout what is truly going on, we
can't use it to change hearts.
Proverbs 19-2 tells us thatenthusiasm without knowledge is
no good.
Haste makes mistakes.
That is why I am sharing thesetruths with you, so that you
(09:29):
feel comfortable and prepared tohave accurate discussions about
abortion and provide correctionwhen someone argues something
that isn't factual.
I love how the Lord put such averse like this in his Word.
He knew that we would be facedwith challenges like abortion,
(09:50):
and he wanted us to realize thatwe have to be prepared and put
in the work so that we cancreate change in the world.
Now that we are armed with someof the facts and that was just
the tip of the iceberg we havetaken the time to start becoming
(10:16):
aware of what's next.
What's the next step?
Do we just go out and rambleout all of these facts to
whoever walks down the street?
I've seen people try to dothings similar like that and it
(10:36):
just doesn't seem to go oververy well.
But I have come up with fourways that can help you create
conversation, make change inyour community and have an
impact on the world as we knowit.
I'm only going to go over oneof those ways in this episode
(10:59):
and we will continue theconversation next week.
The first and I really do feellike the most important thing
that you can do to stand forlife is actually quite simple,
and it's something that is justoverlooked you can pray and read
(11:25):
the Word of God daily.
I know it's that simple.
It really is that simple, because you know God wants us to
pray boldly.
He wants us to praise Him, restin Him and ask Him for guidance
about all aspects of our life.
Prayer is our way of connectingwith God and growing in our
(11:48):
relationship with Him.
So why not pray to God aboutabortion?
John, chapter 15, verses 7through 12, say but if you
remain in me and my word remainsin you, you may ask for
anything you want, and it willbe granted.
When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples.
(12:12):
This brings great glory to theFather.
I have loved you even as theFather has loved me.
Remain in my love when you obeymy commands.
You remain in my love, just asI obey my Father's commands and
(12:32):
remain in His love.
I have told you these things sothat you will be filled with my
joy.
Yes, your joy will overflow.
This is my commandment Loveeach other in the same way I
(12:52):
have loved you.
You see, jesus wants us to doHis will.
He wants us to know His word sothat we are able to keep it in
our hearts and it have impactour decisions.
And when we do that it bringsGod joy.
(13:14):
Did you catch that part ofscripture?
It brings God joy when we dothat.
Can I hear?
All that makes my heart jump alittle inside.
My heart jumps because thatjust shows how powerful God
really is and that we should beputting our trust in Him so much
(13:38):
more than we do on a dailybasis.
Just yesterday, I was at mymom-to-mom group at our church
and we talked about theimportance of prayer.
The study we are doing togetheris one by Chip Ingram, and he
is such a wonderful person tohear speak about his journey
(14:01):
with God.
It's just so powerful.
Every time I hear him talk it'sfabulous.
And the topic was about how weshould be praying boldly to God.
And you know what a bold prayerwe can do to pray for people to
(14:22):
realize how destructive anddevastating abortion is, and
that is something that we canpray for until abortion ceases
to exist.
Chip gave us a great example atmy mom group.
He writes out all of his bigprayer goals on a piece of paper
(14:44):
and he goes back to themthroughout the year and when
something gets answered by Godhe'll write a note and he'll
check it off.
Sometimes his prayers took along time to be answered and
he'd have to go a few yearslater and look back on that
(15:04):
piece of paper and see how Godanswered the prayer in a way he
didn't expect.
And although these results ofthe prayers weren't always
immediate and they alwaysweren't seen right away,
spanning over the years, he wasable to see the change over time
(15:25):
in his prayer life, in his lifeand in the lives of people
around him, because of theconsistent prayer over the big
issues facing him.
That is the type of bold andconsistent praying we should be
doing over abortion, fromreading passages in scripture
(15:47):
like Psalm 139, verses 13through 16, which says you made
the delicate inner parts of mybody and knit me together in my
mother's womb.
Thank you for making me sowonderfully complex.
Your workmanship is marvelous.
How well I know it.
You watched me as I was beingformed in utter seclusion, as I
(16:11):
was woven together in thedarkness of the womb.
You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life wasrecorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out, before a single day had passed.
And when you read Psalm 127,verses 3 through 5, which says
children are a gift from theLord, they are a reward from Him
(16:33):
.
Children born to a young manare like arrows in a warrior's
hands, how joyful is the manwhose quiver is full of them.
He will not be put to shamewhen he confronts his accusers
at the city gate.
Or when you read something likeLuke, chapter 1, verses 41 and
44, which shows a pre-born babyleaping in the womb, for it says
(16:57):
at the sound of Mary's greeting, elizabeth's child leaped
within her and Elizabeth wasfilled with the Holy Spirit.
And she said when I heard yourgreeting, the baby in my womb
jumped for joy.
These scriptures are just someof the many that show how much
(17:17):
God loves, how much God createsand how he breathes life into
the unborn.
When we pray for them, we arepraying for His will to be done
and with our persistent prayer, abortion can and will eventually
(17:38):
, in God's time, come to an end.
Before we close, I want topractice when I'm preaching and
pray with you.
So let's bow our heads and talkto our Father.
(17:59):
Lord, I come before you as yourchild.
You breathe life into all of usand we should be people who
value and respect and uphold andprotect your creation.
But this is a fallen world andso many people have lost sight
(18:20):
of the truth that all people areprecious, all people are valued
, all people are loved by you,and abortion has become the
societal norm and it's evenbecoming something that people
celebrate.
Lord, help us to be a light inthe world that is so full of
darkness.
Help us to be vessels for yourword and your will.
(18:44):
We want abortion to becomesomething that is unthinkable.
Lord, help us to find the wordswhenever we are in a
conversation with a friend orwith somebody who we know, or a
colleague, or even a stranger, when abortion comes up.
Give us the peace in our heartsso that we can speak your truth
(19:05):
and love to others.
Lord, I pray that, as ourcountry continues this
discussion of abortion, that ourlawmakers hear the voice of the
people crying out for theunborn and just laws are passed
to protect the most vulnerable.
And, lord, I also pray forthose who are being constantly
(19:27):
attacked by people.
Lord, don't let them feel likethey're just gonna give up.
It's so hard when so manypeople are screaming at you on
social media, being so hatefuland spiteful.
But, lord, you are the princeof peace, so fill their hearts
with peace, and we love you, lord.
(19:49):
We know that your will will bedone and that abortion will be
no more in your timing.
So thank you, god, for all thatyou've given us today.
We turn to you.
We turn to you, amen.
