Speaker 1 (00:05):
Hi there and welcome
to Proverbs 31-1b, where we
discuss Biblical womanhood andare constantly busy and
sometimes crazy daily life.
I'm Alexis Hieslip and, as awife and mom of two, I'm always
striving and praying, butsometimes failing to be a
Proverbs 31 woman of faith.
Y'all, we are getting so closeto the end of our Connecting the
(00:29):
Dot series and we are reallykicking things up today because
we are talking about the amazingfulfillment of Jesus
resurrecting from the dead.
I am so excited.
We have been building up tothis moment for the past couple
of weeks.
There's a lot to talk about andI feel like this is a great
(00:50):
topic as we are inching closerand closer towards Easter.
So let's dive on in.
There's a lot of scripture tocover.
I'm so excited to go throughthis with you guys today.
Let's dive on in, y'all.
So, as you heard in theintroduction, spoiler alert.
The first point we're going tobe talking about is that our
Messiah would be raised from thedead, and I didn't realize just
(01:16):
how many different passages inthe Old Testament prophesies and
allude to this about Messiah.
I knew obviously in Isaiah 53,but there were a lot more and,
like the book of Psalms, had alot and it was really exciting
to discover, so I hope you enjoythis too.
But the first passage inscripture that we're going to
(01:40):
look at is the famous Isaiah 53,again that we read this in
verse 10, if you'll turn with meto Isaiah 53, verse 10.
We read this yet it pleaseAdonai to bruise him.
He caused him to suffer.
If he makes his soul a guiltoffering, he will see his
offspring, he will prolong hisdays and the will of Adonai will
(02:06):
succeed at his hand.
Notice this part of the versethat says he will see his
offering, he will prolong hisdays.
This is an allusion to the factthat the Messiah suffered and
(02:26):
died but will not stay in thatstate, and I talk more about
that in my six week study onIsaiah 53.
I'll have a link in the shownotes if you want to take a look
at that.
But there's also other passagesto scripture to consider, and
one that I had not thought ofand didn't make this connection
(02:52):
until I was in my study Bibledoing my research is in 2 Samuel
, in chapter 7.
And in this passage is theLord's promise that he gives to
David.
I highly suggest you take thetime to read the whole section,
(03:18):
chapter 7.
It's about 30 verses.
I'm not going to read the wholething, but it's really, really
interesting.
If you want to do more of adeep dive on your own into
Messianic prophecy, 2 Samuel, chapter 7, is the place to go,
but I'm going to be focusing onverses 12 through 16, which tell
(03:39):
us this Moreover, adonaideclares to you that Adonai will
make a house for you.
When your days are done and whenyou sleep with your fathers, I
will raise up your seed, he'stelling David.
He will come forth after youand establish his kingdom.
(04:01):
He will build a house for myname.
And notice this.
This is what is really thekicker.
I will establish his royalthrone forever.
I will be a father to him andhe will be a son to me.
If he commits iniquity, I willcorrect him with the rod of men
(04:23):
and with the strokes from thesons of men.
Yet my loving kindness will notbe withdrawn from him, as I
withdrew it from Saul, who Iremoved from before you.
So your house and your kingshipwill be secure forever before
you, just as your throne will beestablished forever.
(04:45):
Notice the words forever thatare used.
And it kind of made me chucklewhen I read this passage,
because my son loves the sandlotand it reminds me of the
sandlot when one of the boysgoes forever.
And that's what really what Godis saying like really emphasize
(05:08):
the point of forever that whenthe Messiah comes and
establishes his kingdom, it'llbe forever.
It is this eternal kingdom.
So that's a fun way to connectthat idea to your kids If you
have kiddos that love baseballand the sandlot is to use that
to.
That's what God is telling ushere in this passage is that
(05:30):
when Messiah comes, it's not atemporary kingdom, it's a
forever kingdom.
I thought that was really cool.
Now there are other passages aswell that we can look at, and
the Psalms are just chocked fullof this, and you know, david
probably Was inspired in hisPsalms from this message from
(05:55):
Adonai and he was constantlyreminding himself of this
prophetic message.
So the first place I want us tolook at is Psalm, chapter 2,
psalm 2.
I'm flipping there myself and Ijust want to remind you guys
that the version of the Bible, the Translation that I'm using,
(06:16):
is the Tree of Life version, which is written by by Messianic
Jews, and I really like itbecause it uses more of the
Hebrew language in thescriptures and I think that
having an understanding of alanguage, original language, is
(06:36):
important, but you guys can useWhatever translation you prefer.
I am just using the Tree ofLife version because I've had so
much fun and and enjoying itusing it, using the Hebrew names
for God.
If you guys are interested, Ican put a link in the show notes
(06:57):
.
If you're wanting to check outa Tree of Life version of the
Bible, you can also find it forfree in the Bible app.
You can choose what translationto look at.
So I'll send.
I'll put a link in the shownotes for that.
But let's turn to Psalm 2 andwe're gonna look at verses 7 and
8, which tell us this I willdeclare the decree of Adonai.
(07:22):
He said to me you are my son.
Today I have become your father.
Ask me and I will give thenations as your inheritance and
the far reaches of the earth asyour possession.
So what we are hearing is thatAdonai is going to be giving his
(07:45):
son the nations as his fullinheritance.
So this forever Kingdom that weheard about in 2 Samuel, it's
not just for one nation, it'sfor all the nations, which is a
key component as Christians thatwe believe that salvation is
(08:06):
not just for the Jew, but it'salso for the Gentile, for the
slave, for the free.
It is for everyone, for ever, and we hear this echoed again in
Psalm 16.
If you'll turn with me to Psalm16 and I'm just giving you a
couple, because I there wasdefinitely a lot more, but I'm
(08:31):
just focusing on the ones thatreally stood out to me Psalm 16
and now, depending on yourtranslation, you could start at
verse 9, but I'm pretty sure mytranslation starts at verse 8,
so start at verse 8.
I'm going to verse 11, whichcould be verse 12 in your
translation.
So Psalm 16 either verse 8 or 9, depending on your translation
(08:56):
says this I have set Adonaialways before me.
Since he is at my right hand, Iwill not be shaken.
So my heart is glad and my soulrejoices.
My body also rests securely, for you will not abandon my soul
(09:17):
to shale, nor let your faithfulone see the pit.
You Make known to me the pathof life, abundance of joy or, in
your presence, eternalpleasures at your right hand.
So there's a couple of thingshere.
One is that I Will set Adonaialways before me.
(09:43):
Adonai is always before us.
He is always there with us, nomatter what, he is eternal.
And Another thing that notes isthat he will never abandon us,
he will never forsake us, hewill never Let us be in the pit,
(10:09):
and that is why Jesus cannotstay dead.
He will never forsake us and isthrough his resurrection that
he restores us and has thiseternal presence at the right
hand forever.
And it's only through theresurrection that we can have
this eternal presence.
(10:29):
And I thought that's beautifuland this is just one of my
favorite Psalms because it's soreassuring.
And then, if you'll flip withme ahead to Psalm 132, we hear
again this beautiful echoing ofthe promise that David heard
(10:49):
from Adonai and we read this inverse 11.
And, echoing of this thought, adonai has sworn to David a true
promise he will not provokeFrom the fruit of your body I
will set upon your throne.
If your children keep mycovenant in my law that I will
(11:12):
teach them, then their sons willsit on your throne forever,
forever.
So our king, that our messiah, our savior, is an eternal king
who will reign forever, and notjust for the Jewish people but
for all of the nations.
(11:33):
And we see this in all four ofthe gospels, in all four of the
gospels, and I am going to takethe time to read them all
because we get snippets fromeach gospel writer, but when you
read them all together you getthe full extent of the joy of
the resurrection of Messiah.
(11:54):
And we are going to go in order.
We're going to start withMatthew and Matthew 28.
We read this Now, after Shabbat, as it began to dawn on the
first day of the week, miriam ofMagdala, or Mary of Magdala,
(12:15):
and the other Mary, miriam, cameto look at the tomb and
Suddenly there was a greatearthquake, for an angel of
Adonai Descended from heaven andcame and rolled back the stone
and sat on it.
His appearance was likelightning and His clothing as
white as snow, and those keepingwatch were shaken for fear of
(12:38):
him and became like dead men.
But the angel answered and saidto the women don't be afraid,
for I know we are looking forYeshua who was crucified.
He is not here, he has risen.
Just as he said, come to theplace where he was lying, go
quickly now and Tell hisdisciples that he is risen from
(13:00):
the dead and Behold, he is goingbefore you to Galilee.
There you will see him.
See, I have told you theyquickly left the tomb with fear
and great joy and ran to bringthe news to his disciples.
So that is Matthews Store, aperspective of the resurrection.
(13:22):
Now we go to the book of Mark, mark 16, starting at verse one.
Actually, we're gonna start, yeah, starting at verse one.
When Shabbat was over, miriamof Magdala, miriam the mother of
Jacob and Salome brought spicesSee, we're getting some
different details so that theymight come and anoint Yeshua's
(13:44):
body.
Very early on the first day ofthe week, when the Sun had risen
, they came to the tomb.
They were saying to each otherwho will roll away the stone for
us?
From the entrance of the tomb, looking up, they see the stone
it was really huge had beenrolled away.
As they entered the tomb, theysaw a young man sitting on the
(14:04):
right side, dressed in a whiterobe, and they were startled.
But he said to them don't bealarmed, you're looking for
Yeshua of Nazareth.
He was crucified, he is risen.
He's not here.
See the place where they puthim.
But go tell his disciples andPeter, he's going before you to
Galilee, there you will see him, just as he told you, and going
(14:28):
outside they fled from the tomb, gripped by trembling amazement.
They did not say anything toanybody, for they were afraid.
So that's Matthew's account ofthe resurrection.
Now let's look at Luke, luke 24, one through twelve.
(14:51):
And we read this Now on thefirst day of the week, at
daybreak, the women came to thetomb Carrying the spices that
they had prepared.
They found the stone had beenrolled away from the tomb, but
when they entered they did notfind the body of the Lord Yeshua
(15:11):
.
While they were perplexed aboutthis, suddenly two men,
dazzling and close, stood besidethem.
The women were terrified andbowed their faces to the ground.
But the men said why do yousearch for the living among the
dead?
He's not here but is risen.
Remember what he told you whenhe was still in the Galilee,
saying that the Son of man Mustbe delivered into the hands of
(15:35):
sinful men and be executed andon the third day rise up.
And they were reminded of hiswords.
And when they returned from thetomb, they told all these
things to the eleven and toeveryone else.
Now it was Miriam from Magdala, joanna, the Miriam of Jacob,
and others together with themwho were telling these things to
(15:58):
the emissaries.
But these words appeared tothem as nonsense and they would
not believe them.
But Peter got up and ran to thetomb.
Leaning in, he sees only linenclothes as he went away to his
home Marvelling at what hadhappened.
Now we read John's account.
If you'll turn with me To John, chapter 20, we will read this
(16:24):
together.
I am almost there.
And now we read this Early inthe morning on the first day of
the week, while it was stilldark.
Miriam from Magdala comes to thetomb.
She sees that the stone isrolled away from the tomb, so
(16:47):
she comes running to Simon, peter and the others, telling
them and the other disciple, theone Yeshua loved.
And she told them they've takenthe master out of the tomb and
we don't know where they put him.
Then Peter and the otherdisciples set out, going to the
tomb.
The two were running togetherbut the other disciple out ran
(17:09):
Peter, and arrived at the tombfirst, leaning in.
He sees the linen strips lyingthere, but he didn't go in.
Then Peter Comes, following himand entered the tomb.
He looked upon the face of thelinen strips lying there and the
face cloth that had been on hishead.
It was not lying with the linenstrips but was rolled up in a
(17:34):
place by itself.
So then the other disciple whohad reached the tomb first, also
entered.
He saw and believed, for theydid not yet understand from
scripture that Yeshua must Risefrom the dead.
So the disciples went back totheir own homes.
Each gospel account Says andshows that Jesus was not in the
(17:57):
tomb, that he was raised fromthe dead and that the disciples
at first did not fullyunderstand this Account.
They did not understand this atfirst.
But what is so beautiful andshows how we grow in our faith
over time and experience andprayer and through greater
(18:20):
understanding, we see how Petergoes from this uncertainty to
full belief.
In the book of Acts we hear hissermon.
We can read the sermon thatPeter gives and it is beautiful
and shows us his growth in hisface.
(18:45):
So if you turn with me to Acts2, it is a long sermon so I'm
only gonna be focusing on just acouple of the verses out of the
sermon.
I highly recommend, on your owntime, taking it and reading the
fullness of his sermon.
But we're gonna be focusing onVersus 22 to 26 or 27, no 28,
(19:17):
sorry, we're gonna be focusingon those Verses.
So if you'll read with me,start at verse 22.
Men of Israel.
Hear these words Yeshua HanazRati.
Yeshua of Nazareth, a manauthenticated to you by God with
mighty deeds and wonders andsigns.
(19:39):
God performed through him, inyour midst, as you yourselves
know, this Yeshua, given over byGod's predetermined plan and
foreknowledged.
Nailed to the cross by the handof a lawless man, you killed,
but God raised him up, releasinghim from the pains of death,
(20:02):
since it was impossible for himto be held by it, for David said
about him I saw Adonai alwaysbefore me, for he is at my right
hand, so I may not be shaken.
Therefore, my heart was gladand my tongue Rejoiced.
Moreover, my body will alsolive in hope, because you will
(20:24):
not abandon my soul to Sheol orlet your only one see decay.
You have made known to me thepaths of life.
You will fill me with joy inyour presence.
So, as you can see, thisMessiah's resurrection tells us,
(20:44):
in verse 31, that he was notabandoned.
David was not abandoned toSheol and his body did not be K
Because this Yeshua God raisedup.
He was raised up, and theapostles, we were all witnesses.
So we know, we know that Adonaiis with us forever, forever,
(21:13):
and verse 36 tells us this.
Therefore, let the whole houseof Israel know for certain that
God has made him, this Yeshua, whom you've crucified, both Lord
and Messiah, because he is notdead.
He is alive for ever, and wesee this again throughout Paul's
(21:37):
writings.
I just want to give us oneexample of this.
In first Corinthians, chapter15, we read this I Am almost
there myself, the page was stuckand we're gonna read verses
four through six, because itechoes Peter's thoughts, it
(22:02):
echoes David's thoughts, itshows how Messiah was there all
the way from Old to NewTestament.
So let's read it together, forI also passed on to you first of
all, which I also received, that the Messiah died for our
sins, according to thescriptures, that he was buried
(22:23):
and that he was raised on thethird day, according to the
scriptures, and he appeared toKafa Peter, then to the 12, then
he appeared to over 500brothers and sisters at one time
.
Most of them are still alive, though some have died.
So this is this is justReflecting on the fact that
(22:47):
Jesus is alive, there's avictory in the resurrection and
Paul is showing us that Messiahhas been raised from the dead.
And how could there be anydoubt that he was raised from
the dead with all of thesewitnesses?
Messiah is raised.
(23:08):
So that's the first major point.
And here is the second point isthat he was raised from the dead
and we hear that he's gonna beon this throne forever.
But how is that?
He has ascended to the righthand of God.
That is how he reigns forever.
(23:29):
Because he's ascended to theright hand of God.
And again we see thisthroughout the book of Psalms,
this idea.
So I'm gonna read threepassages in the Psalms.
So let's look first at Psalm 16,where we read this.
(23:50):
In verse 11 we read you makeknown to me the path of life.
Abundance of joys are in yourpresence, eternal pleasures at
your right hand.
And then again, this idea ofbeing ascended and in Jesus
(24:17):
being at the right hand of thefather is seen in Psalms 69,
verse 19 or 18, depending on thetranslation.
Draw near to my soul and redeemit.
Ransom me because of my foes.
Hide not your face from yourservant, for I am in distress.
(24:43):
Answer me quickly.
So Verse 20 also tells us youknow my reproach, my shame and
my disgrace.
All of my adversaries arebefore you.
This is just showing that, yes, jesus ascended to the right
(25:03):
hand of a God and has thiseternal throne.
So he knows everything that wehave gone through, that we will
go through and that we are goingthrough.
And Then, if you'll turn, flipforward to Psalm 110.
We read this, a Psalm of David, add, and I declares to my Lord
(25:27):
sit at my right hand until Imake your enemies a footstool
for your feet, add, and I willextend your mighty rod from Zion
Rule on the midst of yourenemies.
Your people will be a free willoffering in the days of your
power, and the Holy splendorfrom dawn's womb.
Yours is the dew of your youth, add, and I has sworn and will
(25:49):
not change his mind.
You are a co-in, a priest, forever, according to the order
of Malchis.
A deck, my Lord is at yourright hand.
He will shatter Kings in thedays of his wrath.
He will judge among the nations, keeping up corpses.
He will crush heads over entirelands.
He will drink from a steam, astream, along the way.
So his head will be exalted.
(26:12):
We're gonna come back to thisPsalm and it kind of flows into
the next idea that Jesus is theultimate high priest.
But first let's talk about howJesus was ascended and, as we
talked about earlier, how Petersaid that David was great.
(26:33):
But Jesus is even greater thanDavid and he is ascended to the
right hand of the father.
And Luke 20, verses 41 through44 show us the importance and
and the ascension and what itmeans.
So if we'll turn to Luke 20,this is before the ascension,
(27:02):
but Jesus gives us some cluesabout what is to come and what
it means.
So let's start at verse 41.
Then Yeshua said to them how canthey say that Messiah is ben
David?
For David himself says in thebook of Psalms Add a nice said
to my Lord sit at my right handuntil I make your enemies a foot
(27:24):
, so to your feet.
David then calls him Lord.
So how is he his son?
So a lot of people thought thatJesus was Like David, but below
him.
But this is Jesus saying no,I'm even above David, who was a
great king, because I am goingto ascend to be with the father
(27:45):
and sit at his right hand.
I am the father's son.
I am not just of David, but Iam the father's son.
And In order for him to be, thefather said he has to be
ascended into Heaven.
And we read this in theascension account in the book of
Acts, acts chapter 1, startingat verse 9, we read Oops, almost
(28:13):
there.
We read this.
After Saying all of this, whilethey were watching, he was
taken up, while they werestaring into the heavens.
As he went up, suddenly two menStood with them in white
clothing.
(28:33):
They said men of Galilee.
Why do you keep standing herestaring up in the heaven?
This Yeshua, who was taken upfrom you into heaven, will come
in the same way as you saw himgo in to heaven.
So Jesus is ascended.
(28:55):
And then we hear kind of moreabout this.
When Stephen was trying todefend himself and preach the
gospel message Before he was thefirst martyr of the faith after
Jesus's resurrection.
And Stephen says it reallybeautifully.
(29:17):
If you'll turn, flip forward toActs, chapter 7, starting at
verse 55, we read this butStephen, full of the spirit,
gazed into heaven and saw theglory of God and Yeshua standing
at the right hand of God.
(29:38):
And he said a look, I See theheavens opened and the Son of
man standing at the right handof God.
But they covered their ears and, crying out with a loud voice,
they rushed at him with oneimpulse and they drove him out
of the city and had him stoned.
(29:58):
You see, this truth wasshattering to people, people who
were stubborn and stiff-neckedand didn't want to believe.
They did not want to believethat Messiah was at the right
hand of the father, because thatmeant that they were wrong
about Jesus.
And they killed Steven.
(30:19):
They stolen him to death.
And it's not just Steven, hewas willing to die for this
truth.
11 Almost all of the apostles, all of the apostles, except for
John, were martyred for theirfaith.
They died for their faith.
(30:41):
Thousands and thousands ofChristians died for their faith
in Ancient Rome and theColiseum's.
They died for their faithDuring the Muslim conquests.
Many Christians died for theirfaith.
There are Christians today, inrecent times, whether it be in
(31:05):
the Soviet Union times, duringNazi Germany, in Iran, where
there's secret churches who aredying for their faith, because
of their faith that Jesus rosefrom the dead and Is seated at
the right hand of the father.
And we see in the book ofEphesians the importance of of
(31:31):
standing for truth and beingwilling to sacrifice for the
truth.
Ephesians 4, 8 through 10.
Therefore, it says when he wentup on high, he led captive, a
troop of captives and gave giftsto his people.
Now, what does he went up mean, except that he first went down
to the lower regions of theearth.
(31:53):
The one who came down is thesame one who went up far above
all the heavens in order to fillall things.
This is the truth that so manypeople have been willing to die
for, and again, this is echoedin Hebrews chapter, hebrews 1
I'm just trying to flip there.
(32:14):
Hebrews 1, 3 and 4 tell us thisthis is the son.
This son is the radiance of hisglory and the imprint of his
being, upholding all things byhis powerful word.
When he had made purificationfor our sins, he sat down at the
(32:35):
right hand of the majesty onhigh.
Thus, he became far above theangels, as the name he has
inherited is more excellent thantheirs.
This is the message of thegospel, this is the message of
our redemption and this is themessage of our Messiah King, who
sits on the throne forever.
And this is what many who havegone before us have been willing
(32:58):
to die for.
And that is why it is soimportant we know what the
message of the gospel is, and weneed to know what is to come
that our Messiah has an eternalascension into heaven and sits
on this throne forever.
And not only is he sitting onthis throne forever, he is
(33:20):
exercising this third point.
He is exercising his priestlyoffice in heaven forever, for
all eternity, and I feel like Icould do a whole separate
episode on this, so I'm going todo my best to narrow it down.
(33:41):
There are three passages inscripture I want us to look at,
and in the Old Testament tostart.
The first is the book ofZechariah, and Zechariah was an
Old Testament prophet and I feellike I've said this before.
(34:02):
We've been looking at Zechariaha lot with Messianic prophecy
and I feel like we could do awhole study on Zechariah.
But Zechariah 6.
13 tells us this he will build,he as in he's speaking of of
the time to come, the branch whowill branch out from his place
(34:25):
and build the temple of Adonai.
He will build the temple ofAdonai, he will bear splendor
and sit and rule on his throne.
Thus he will be a cohen, apriest, on his throne.
So a council of Shalom, acouncil of peace, will be
between them both.
So when Jesus rules, whenMessiah rules on his throne as
(34:51):
the high priest forever, therewill be Shalom, there will be
peace is what we are reading.
And then again in 2 Samuel.
I feel like it's important wetalk about it again In 2 Samuel
7, we already talked about itbefore, but we really need to
emphasize this covenant that Godmade with David.
(35:14):
We read this and that in verses12 and 13,.
Moreover, adonai declares toyou that Adonai will make the
house for you when your days aredone and you sleep with your
(35:36):
fathers.
I will raise up your seed.
He will come forth from youafter you and I will establish
his kingdom.
He will build a house for myname and I will establish this
royal throne forever.
Forever, and I know we justtalked about it, but Psalm 110
(35:59):
is really a critical Psalm inthis understanding.
The Lord is a cohen forever.
According to the order ofMalchizedek, he is a priest
forever, and I don't have thetime to go into it right now,
but you need to also look intothe book of Leviticus, so you
(36:21):
have a full understanding ofwhat a high priest even did.
What the high priest even did,it was a God appointed office.
Aaron was the first high priestand they were the ones that
would make the sacrifices to Godin the temple, but Jesus is our
ultimate high priest.
(36:41):
He makes the ultimate sacrificefor us on the cross with his
blood, and that's important toknow.
I highly suggest you look atthe Torah, you study the Torah,
you look at Leviticus in thelight that Jesus is the ultimate
high priest forever.
(37:03):
And the book of Hebrews in theNew Testament really shines a
light and helps us to understandthis better.
And it helps us to understandthe book of Hebrews, because I
know it can be confusing.
I know that the Torah can beconfusing because we are taught
(37:25):
very well about Torah as GentileChristians.
It's not explained, in myopinion, very well, but that's
why we are here together tolearn and to grow in our faith
together.
And the book of Hebrews helpsus to realize that Jesus is
greater than the Leviticalpriests that we read about in
(37:47):
the Torah.
He is our ultimate high priest.
And this is a longer passage, but I feel like it's necessary
to read Hebrews, chapter 6,starting at verse 20.
Yeshua has entered there as aforerunner on our behalf, a
forerunner on our behalf havingbecome the coen gadol, the high
(38:11):
priest forever, according to theorder of Malki Zedek.
Now, these next couple passagesI still get confused about.
Okay, so this is something Istill pray about today, but
listen to what Hebrews says inchapter 7.
Hebrews, chapter 7, it is tooimportant not to read.
(38:32):
Too important not to read Forthis.
Malki Zedek was king of Salem, coen of God most high.
He met Abraham, running fromthe defeat of the kings, and
blessed him.
This is back in Genesis, chapter 21, for context.
And to him Abraham apportioneda tenth of everything.
(38:56):
First, by the translation ofhis name, he is king of
righteousness, and then alsoking of Salem, which is king of
shalom, of peace, without father, without mother, without
genealogy, having neitherbeginning of days nor end of
life, but made like Ben Elohim,he remains a coen for all time.
(39:22):
Now see how great this man is.
Even Abraham, the patriarch, gave him a tenth out of the
plunder.
Indeed, those sons of Levi hereceived the priesthood have,
according to Torah, a command tocollect a tithe from the people
, that is, from their kin, although they have come out of
(39:43):
the loins of Abraham.
But this one, who did not havetheir genealogy, has collected
tithes from Abraham and hasblessed him, the one holding the
promises.
Now, it is beyond dispute thatthe lesser is blessed by the
greater.
In one case, dying men receivetithes, but in the other one,
(40:08):
about whom it is testified thathe lives on Through Abraham,
even Levi, the one receivingtithes, has paid the tithe, so
to speak, for he was still inhis father's loin when
Melchizedek met him.
Now, if perfection was throughthe Levitical priesthood for
(40:29):
based on it the people have beengiven the Torah what further
need was there for a differentcoen to arise, designated
according to the order ofMelchizedek, not according to
the order of Aaron?
For whenever the priesthood isaltered out of necessity and
alteration of law also takesplace, for the one about whom
(40:52):
these things are said belongs toanother tribe from which no one
has officiated at the altar, itis clear that our Lord has
sprung forth from Judah.
Concerning this tri-Moses saidnothing about priesthood, and
it's even more evident ifanother priest arise, like
Melchizedek, one made not byvirtue of Torah requirement of
(41:16):
physical descent, but by virtueof the power of the
indestructible life.
For it testified you are a coenforever according to the order
of Melchizedek.
For, on the one hand, a formerrequirement is set aside because
of its weaknesses andineffectiveness.
(41:36):
For Torah may nothing perfect, but on the other hand, a better
hope is introduced through whichwe draw near to God".
I love that verse, verse 19,.
Moreover, it was not without asworn oath.
Others, indeed, have becomepriests without a sworn oath,
(41:57):
but he, with an oath sworn bythe one who said to him Adonai,
has sworn and will not changehis mind.
You are a Cohen forever.
How much more, then, has Yeshuabecome the guarantee of a
better covenant Now, on the onehand, many have become priests
or Cohenim who, throughout death, are prevented from continuing
(42:22):
office, but, on the other hand, the one who does not remain
forever has a permanentpriesthood.
Therefore, he is also able tosave completely those who draw
near to God through him alwaysliving to make intercession for
them.
For such a Cohen, gadol wasfitting for us a high priest,
(42:44):
holy, guiltless, undefiled, separated from sinners and
exalted above the heavens.
He has no need to offer upsacrifices day by day, like the
other high priests, first fortheir own sins and then for the
sins of the people, for when heoffered up himself, he did this
(43:06):
once for all, for the Torahappoints as the high priest men
who have weakness, but the wordof the oath which came after the
Torah appoints a son who ismade perfect forever.
He is made perfect forever.
(43:28):
Jesus is made perfect forever.
He is greater than Abraham.
He is greater than the highpriest, he is greater than David
, because he is perfect.
Only Jesus is perfect, and soonly Jesus, who was ascended,
who rose from the dead, ascendedto heaven, only he can be a
(43:49):
high priest forever in thiseternal kingdom, forever.
According to the order ofMalchisa deck, he is our only
perfect priest, our only perfectpriest who reigns forever,
(44:12):
forever.
Isn't that amazing?
Isn't that just mind blowing?
Doesn't that just give youchills?
Because it certainly gives mechills, and nothing can separate
us from his love.
All we have to do is ask and hewill rule.
(44:33):
He will rule whether we ask himto or not, but when we turn to
him, he is our ultimate saviorand we can rest in that love.
