Speaker 1 (00:05):
Hi there and welcome to Proverbs 31-1ab, where we
discuss Biblical womanhood andare constantly busy and
sometimes crazy daily life.
I'm Alexis Heaslip and, as awife and mom of two, I am always
striving and praying to be aProverbs 31 woman of faith.
We are on episode 15 of our16-week journey into studying

(00:29):
and diving into Messianicprophecy from Old to New
Testament, and connecting thedots to show how the Bible is
one unified book that istimeless for all.
And we are coming to theconclusion part of all of these
prophecies, the final picturescoming together of what our

(00:54):
Messiah has done, what he willdo and the times to come for us.
So let's dive on in togetherand learn how our Messiah is the
cornerstone for all believers.
Alright, so, as we are wrappingup this discussion, as we are

(01:28):
coming to a conclusion of all ofthe things that our Messiah is,
the first point we need to talkabout today is that our Messiah
is to be the cornerstone forthe Messianic Jewish community.
This is the first point and itwill expand to more than just

(01:49):
the Messianic Jewish community.
But first let's focus in onthis idea, and we can find this
throughout the Old Testament, and we're going to start in the
book of Isaiah, chapter 28,where we really hear this idea
of how Messiah is going to bethis precious cornerstone.

(02:12):
So, if you'll turn with meIsaiah 28, and we're going to
start at verse 16, and thisverse tells us therefore thus
says Adonai, elohim, behold, Iam laying in Zion a stone, a
tested stone, a costlycornerstone, a firm foundation.

(02:36):
Whoever trusts will not flee inhaste, but I will make justice
the measuring line, andrighteousness the plumb line.
Hail will sweep away the refugeof lies and water will overflow
the hiding places.
Your covenant with death isannulled and your pact with

(02:58):
Sheol will not stand andoverflowing scourge will pass
through and you will be itstrampling place.
And then we look, just jumpdown a couple of verses 2, verse
21.
For Adonai will rise up atMount Perizim, he will quake

(03:21):
with awe at the valley of Gibeamto do his deed, his strange
deed, and to work his work, hisextraordinary work.
So all of chapter 28 of Isaiahtalks about a cornerstone of
Zion and, as we read, thiscornerstone is to be a precious

(03:43):
cornerstone and the cornerstoneof Zion will be a firm
foundation for all who believe,a firm foundation.
And we got to remember at thistime when Isaiah was getting
these prophecies.
Israel was not in a good place.

(04:06):
People were idol worshiping, people were sacrificing to other
gods, they were ignoring theTorah, they were marrying people
from other nations who didn'tbelieve in our Lord.

(04:29):
And even with all of this andit made God so sad and angry
even with all of this, heremembers the promises that he
made to Abraham and Isaac andJacob and says although death is

(04:54):
coming to those who do notfollow me, and although you have
disappointed me and made me sad, I'm not going to turn my face
away from you.
I will make and remember and bereminded of this precious pact

(05:14):
with you.
I will be your cornerstone andall who believe in me will be on
a firm foundation.
And we hear this again echoed, and we're going to really look
at this Psalm throughout today'sdiscussion.
Psalm 118,.

(05:34):
I know we've talked about thisPsalm before, but it's one
that's so important that we'regoing to talk about it again and
we're going to focus right nowon verses 21 through 23.
So if you turn with me to Psalm118, and these verses tell us

(05:59):
this, I give you thanks becauseyou have answered me and have
become my salvation.
The stone the builders rejectedhas become the capstone.
It is from Adonai.

(06:21):
It is marvelous in our eyes.
This is the day that Adonai hasmade lettuce for Joyce and be
glad in it.
I love how different Bibleshave different headings for

(06:43):
different sections, and thetitle, the heading that the Tree
of Life version gives for thiswhole Psalm, is that his has
said his love endures forever.
And that is so true becauseJesus was rejected by many, but

(07:04):
yet his love endures forever andhe is this chief cornerstone
and we have now the opportunityto rejoice in this and I think
that's just beautiful.
And Jesus is our symbol.
This cornerstone that the psalmhas talked about is a symbol of

(07:28):
our salvation and we canrejoice and be glad in it.
And Jesus, in his parables, looked at this psalm and told
parables, told stories to helppeople understand why Messiah is

(07:56):
the cornerstone, why he is ourcornerstone.
And if you look in the book ofMatthew, we'll look at this
example that Jesus gives to usIf you'll turn with me to
Matthew 21.
Now there are actually a coupleof series of parables that we
could look at, but we're justgonna look at the one, and it's

(08:22):
the parable of oops.
It's the parable of thelandowner who owned a vineyard.
So we're gonna start at Matthew21, verse 33.
And the parable before and theparable after also go along with

(08:44):
this idea of how Jesus is thecornerstone.
But I want it to lookspecifically at this one.
Listen to another parable.
There was a master of ahousehold who had planted a
vineyard.
He put a hedge around it, dug awine press in it and built a

(09:05):
tower.
So based off of these versesalone, we know that it sounds
like this is a vineyard that bewell protected.
Then he leased it to sometenant farmers and went on a
journey.
Now, when fruit season drewnear, he sent his servants to
the tenants to collect his fruit.
But, grabbing his servants, thetenants beat one up, killed

(09:30):
another and stoned another Again.
The master sent other servants, even more than the first, and
they did the same thing to them.
Finally, he sent his son tothem, saying they will respect

(09:51):
my son.
But when the tenants saw theson, they said among themselves
this is the heir, come on, letus kill him and get his
inheritance.
So, grabbing him, they threwhim out of the vineyard and
killed him.
Therefore, when the master ofthe vineyard comes, what will he

(10:15):
do to those tenants?
He will bring those miserablemen to a miserable end.
They said to him, and willlease the vineyard to other
tenants who will give him hisshare of the fruits in their
seasons.
Yeshua said to them have younever read in the scriptures?

(10:36):
The stone which the buildersrejected has become the chief
cornerstone, that this came fromAdonai, and it is marvelous in
our eyes.
Therefore, I say to you, thekingdom of heaven will be taken
away from you and given topeople producing its fruits.

(11:01):
Whoever falls upon the stonewill be shattered, but the one
upon whom it falls, it willcrush him.
When the ruling priests andPharisees heard Jesus's parables
, they realized he was talkingabout them.
Although they were trying toseize him, they feared the

(11:21):
crowds because they regarded himas a prophet.
So here we really see Jesususing this idea of the
cornerstone to show that it'snot just for the religious

(11:42):
leaders to have a relationshipwith God.
No, it is not.
If you reject the prophetswhich, if you look at the Old
Testament and you read time andtime again, the prophets that
God sent to the people wererejected, they were murdered,

(12:06):
they were exiled, they weretaken advantage of, they were
imprisoned and then Jesushimself came in the flesh and
was taken out of the city, outof the gate, out of the vineyard
, out of Jerusalem, and wascrucified and murdered.

(12:28):
But, unlike the prophets, jesusdoesn't stay dead.
He redeems us all and is madealive and resurrects and ascends
to the Father in heaven and hewants us to come to him.
He wants us to bear his fruit,he wants the Jewish people to

(12:51):
bear his fruit, but he's alsosaying that anyone who produces
the fruit, anyone who comes andfollows me, will be invited into
the fold, because he is thecornerstone for everyone, for
everyone.

(13:12):
Yes, the Jewish people areGod's chosen people and Jesus is
acknowledging that.
But he's also acknowledgingthat I want anyone who comes to
me to be saved, and I like howPeter reflects on this as well.
If you'll turn with me to firstPeter and we're gonna be in

(13:35):
first Peter, chapter 2, I'mflipping there myself and we're
gonna look at verses 5, we'regonna start actually, let's
start at verse 4, and it saysthis as you come to him, a
living stone, rejected by menbut chosen by God and precious

(13:59):
you also as living stones, areto be built up as a spiritual
house, a holy priesthood tooffer up spiritual sacrifices
acceptable to God throughMessiah Yeshua, for it says in
Scripture behold, I lay in Ziona stone, a chosen, precious

(14:24):
cornerstone.
Whoever trusts in him willnever be put to shame.
Now the value is for you whokeep trusting, but for those who
do not trust the stone whichthe builders rejected, this one,
this one, has become the chiefcornerstone, and this is what is

(14:54):
so important for us to realize.
This is the stone.
Messiah, jesus is the chiefcornerstone.
If you want to learn more aboutthis, this concept, highly

(15:18):
highly recommend going over thebook of Hebrews again, because
one of the whole themes of thebook of Hebrews is that Jesus is
the cornerstone.
It's the essence of the book ofHebrews and those who were

(15:40):
accept and come to belief inMessiah Jesus as a Lord, and the
Jewish people.
That concept was thecornerstone for the Jewish
community, but not just theJewish community.
And here's the second point isthat our cornerstone, messiah,

(16:04):
was sought out by both Jew andGentile and, honestly, this goes
all the way back, all the wayback to creation, and you're
probably wondering what are youtalking about?
How does this concept go allthe way back to creation?

(16:27):
But listen to this turn with me.
Genesis 1, verse 26, 27.
Then God said let us make manin our image.
Notice it doesn't say let usmake the Jewish people in our
image.
No, no, no.

(16:48):
Let us make man in our image, after our likeness, let them
rule over the fish of the sea, over the flying creatures of the
sky, over the livestock, overthe whole earth and over every
crawling creature that crawls onthe land.
God created human kind, humankind, and his image in the image

(17:15):
of God.
He created them, male andfemale.
He created them.
You see, my friends, all people, all people, are created in the
image and likeness of God, allpeople.

(17:35):
So, of course, our Messiah, fromthe beginning of time and his
mighty plan was that all people,of every nation and of every
tongue, will have the chance tobe redeemed.
We see this echoed throughoutthe book of Isaiah, for example,

(18:01):
isaiah chapter 11.
We read this, I'm flipping toit Isaiah 11, verse 10, tells us
this it will also come about Inthat day that the root of Jesse

(18:23):
will stand as a banner for thepeoples.
The nations will seek for himand his resting place will be
glorious.
Notice that it's not just theJewish people that are going to
be seeking for him, but all ofthe nations will be seeking him,

(18:48):
because Messiah is for all ofthe nations.
If you flip ahead a couple ofchapters in Isaiah to Isaiah 42,
we hear more of the picture ofwhat this means for all the

(19:08):
nations to search for and beruled by our Messiah.
Isaiah 42 tells us this in verse1, 1, behold my servant whom I

(19:29):
uphold, my chosen one and whommy soul delights.
I have put my rewok, my spiriton him.
He will bring justice to thenations.
And again, a couple of chaptersover Isaiah 49 verse 9, verse 8

(19:57):
and 9 tell us this thus saysAdonai, in a time of favor, I
will answer you.
In a day of salvation, I willhelp you, I will keep you and
give you as a covenant to thepeople to restore the land and
to make them possess itsdesolate inheritance.
Saying to the prisoners I comeout.

(20:21):
And to those in darkness beshown.
And look back at verse 6, whoare the people?
So he says it is to trifling athing that you should be my
servant to raise up the tribesof Jacob and restore the
preserved ones of Israel.

(20:42):
So I will give you as a lightfor the nations that you should
be my salvation to the ends ofthe earth.
And verse 7, thus says Adonai, the Redeemer of Israel, their
holy one, to the one despised,to the one the nation abhors, to

(21:06):
a servant of rulers, kings willsee and arise.
Princes will also bow downbecause of Adonai, who was
faithful, the holy one of Israel, who was chosen, you.
So not only is Messiah for allnations, but Messiah will bring
justice to all of the nations, all of the nations, whether they

(21:32):
bow down to him or not.
There will be justice for allof the nations, and we see this
throughout the book of Acts, howall people from all of the
nations are brought to know theLord, people from all nations.

(21:59):
If you'll turn with me to Acts, chapter 10, this is where we
see this first encounter of it.
Acts 10, 34 through 48, we readthis.

(22:24):
Then Peter opened up his mouthand said I truly understand that
God does not want to showfavoritism, but in every nation,
the one who fears him and doeswhat is right is acceptable to
him.
You know the message he sent toIsrael, proclaiming Shalom

(22:48):
through Messiah Yeshua.
He is Lord of all.
You know the message that hasspread throughout all of Judea,
beginning from Galilee and afterthe immersion of John
proclaimed.
You know how God anointedYeshua of Nazareth with the
Ruach, the Holy Spirit and power, how he went about doing good

(23:11):
and healing all who wereoppressed by the devil, because
God was with him.
We are witnesses to all he did, both in the Judean countryside
and in Jerusalem.
They put him to death byhanging him on a tree, but God
raised him up on the third dayand caused him to be visible,

(23:31):
not to all the people, but to uswitnesses who were chosen
before him by God.
We ate and drank with him afterhe rose, and he commanded us to
proclaim to the people and totestify that he is the one
ordained by God to judge theliving and the dead.

(23:52):
All of the prophets testifyabout him that everyone,
everyone who puts his trust inhim, receives forgiveness of
sins through his name, peter.
If you see, he's not sayingthat only Jewish people will

(24:15):
receive forgiveness of sins, buteveryone who comes to him will
receive this forgiveness, and sothe whole, and we'll receive
the Spirit, we'll receive theHoly Spirit.
And the Holy Spirit is not justpoured out onto the Jewish

(24:36):
people, but is poured out to theGentiles as well.
In Acts 13,.
Look at verse 44, which tells usthis the following Shabbat,
almost the entire city cametogether to hear the word of the
Lord.

(24:56):
When the Jewish leaders saw thecrowds, they were filled with
jealousy and tried to contradictwhat Paul was saying by
reviling him.
Both Paul and Barnabas spokeout boldly and said it was
necessary for the word of God tobe spoken to you first, since
you rejected and judgedyourselves unfit for eternal

(25:18):
life.
Behold, we turn to the Gentiles, for the Lord has commanded us.
I have placed you as a light tothe nations so that you may
bring salvation to the end ofthe earth.
Now listen to this.
When the Gentiles heard this, they were thrilled and glorified
the word of the Lord and asmany as have been inscribed for

(25:39):
eternal life be weaved and theword of the Lord spread
throughout the whole region.
So you see, the Gentilesrejoiced because they too have
eternal life in Messiah.
And you gotta remember, theseGentiles had not heard this

(26:00):
message before.
This was all brand new to them.
They were used to paganism andchild sacrifice and death and
loneliness, and up until thispoint these Gentile people have
lived this life of constantlysearching.
But now they can rejoicebecause they have eternal life

(26:24):
in Messiah.
And we read this, this joy, inthe book of Ephesians.
If you'll turn with me toEphesians, let me get there.
Ephesians, chapter two.
I'm getting there myself,starting at verse 14.

(26:51):
For he, jesus, is our shalom, the one who made two and two one
and broke down the middle wallof separation.
Within his flesh, he madepowerless the hostility, the law
code of the Mitzvot containedin regulations.

(27:13):
He did this in order to createwithin himself one new man from
the two groups making Shalom andto reconcile both to God in one
body through the cross, bywhich he put hostility to death.
And he came and proclaimedShalom to you who were far away,

(27:35):
and Shalom to those who werenear, for through him we, both
Jew and Gentile, have access tothe Father by the same Spirit.
So, then, you are no longerstrangers and foreigners, but
you are fellow citizens withGod's people and members of

(27:59):
God's household.
You have been built on thefoundation made up of the
emissaries and prophets, withMessiah Yeshua himself being the
cornerstone and him.
The whole building, beingfitted together, is growing into
a holy temple for the Lord andhim.

(28:21):
You are also being builttogether into God's dwelling
place in the Spirit.
The Book of Ephesians isbeautiful because a big chunk of
the theme is how Jew andGentile come together as one
community of believers whoworship the Lord, and that is so

(28:43):
beautiful.
Is that, jew and Gentile?
We are supposed to be united inMessiah?
Messiah establishes Shalom, creating one body of believers,
and as Christians we need to beliving out Christian unity, and

(29:03):
we have not been doing a greatjob at that.
The church in America has notnot not been doing a good job at
that.
We like our separation.
The Baptists, the Catholics, the Methodists, the Messianic

(29:24):
Jews, we kind of all keep to ourseparate little corners.
We never come together, but wereally need to, because this
fragmentation damages the bodyof the church, it damages our
communities and it leads todisunity and is leading to an

(29:52):
affront on our Christian faith.
We need to be coming togetherwith our love for Messiah
instead of being torn apart byman's traditions, because one
day we might not have thefreedom to worship our Lord like

(30:14):
we do now.
We might not have the freedomto tell others about the gospel.
We might not have the freedomto say that no abortion is wrong
or no transitioning children iswrong.
We might one day have to relymore on our brothers and sisters

(30:41):
who worship differently than usbut still worship Messiah.
Why not build theserelationships now, when we still
have the ability to use ourvoice in freedom?
And we need to be able to teachthis and live it out for our

(31:02):
children, this Shema and Shalom,so that they can know how to
live united in our faith, evenif we have to do it underground
one day.
We have to be united.
The body doesn't work whenparts of the body are disjointed

(31:26):
.
We need to be united and thisthird part through this united
that Messiah is accepted by theGentiles.
Isaiah 42 really emphasizesthis point that the Gentiles

(31:46):
will come to know the Lord.
So if you'll turn with me,isaiah 42, I know we read the
first couple verses, but let'skeep going.
Behold my servant who I uphold,my chosen one who my soul
delights.
I've put my ruach on him.

(32:08):
He'll bring justice to thenations.
He will not cry out or raisehis voice or make his voice
heard on the street A bruisedreed.
He will not break A smolderingwick.
He will not snuff out.
He will faithfully bring forthjustice.
He will not beat his heart in acrushed.
Until he is established, justice on earth, the islands

(32:30):
will wait for His Torah.
Thus says God at a nigh whocreated the heavens and
stretched them out, who spreadout the earth and what comes
from it, who gives breath to thepeople on it and ruach to those
who walk in it.
I, at a nigh, called you inrighteousness.
I will take hold of your hand.
I will keep you and give you acovenant to the people, as a

(32:54):
light to the nations, by openingblind eyes, bringing prisoners
out of the dungeon and thosesitting in darkness out of the
prison house.
I am at a nigh.
This is my name, my glory.
I will not give to another ormy praise to a graven image.
Behold the former things havecome to pass.

(33:15):
Now I declare new things Beforethey spring forth.
I announce them to you Seeing anew song to Adonai, his praise
from the end of the earth.
You who go down to the sea withall of its fullness, islands and
their inhabitants, let thedesert and the cities exult.
The villages that Kadarinhabits, let the dwellers of

(33:37):
Seyla sing for joy.
Let them shout for joy to thetop of the mountains, let them
give glory to Adonai and declarehis praise in the islands.
Adonai goes out as a mighty one.
He stirs up his zeal like a manof war.
He will shout yes, raise a warcry, he will prevail over his
enemies.
You see, my friends, peoplefrom all the ends of the earth

(34:03):
will come and restore Israel andsing eternal praises to God.
We are to go to all the nations, we are told all the nations
and proclaim the good news andbaptize people in the name of
the Father and the Son and theHoly Spirit.
This is our great commission.

(34:24):
This is our great commissionand this is what's taking place.
The good news didn't stay inJerusalem.
It was spread out to all of theearth, and Jesus talks about
this.

(34:46):
If you'll turn with me toMatthew, chapter 12, starting at
verse eight, I'm getting there, and this passage is one where

(35:12):
Jesus is saying that he is theLord of Shabbat.
He is a Lord and that he bringsforth justice and victory to

(35:35):
all the nations and is a hopefor all the nations.
I won't read it all becausewe're going over time, but the
point is that he is a Lord ofShabbat and he brings forth
justice and hope to all thenations, and the book of Romans

(35:55):
beautifully echoes thissentiment that we all need hope
and our hope, whether Jew orGentile, is found in our Messiah
Jesus.
Verse nine 30 says and thosewhom he predestined he also

(36:21):
called.
And those who he called hejustified.
And those he justified isglorified.
What shall we say then?
Skipping ahead, that Gentileswho did not pursue righteousness
attain righteousness?
That is a righteousness offaith.
A righteousness of faith.
Jump down in Romans 10, versesix, that the righteousness

(36:44):
based on faith speaks in thisway.
So let's get some clarifyinginformation.
Do not say in your heart hewill go up to heaven or he will
go down to the abyss, but whatdoes it say?
The word is near you, in yourmouth and in your heart.
That is the word of faith thatwe are proclaiming, for if you

(37:05):
confess with your mouth thatYeshua is Lord and believe in
your heart that God raised himfrom the dead, you will be saved
.
For with the heart it isbelieved for righteousness and
with the mouth it is confessedfor salvation.
For the scripture says whoevertrusts in him will not be put to
shame, for there is nodistinction between Jew and

(37:27):
Greek, for the same Lord is Lordof all, richly generous to all
who call on him.
For everyone who calls on thename of Anani will be saved.
Everyone who calls on Ananiwill be saved.
The word of faith bringssalvation to all, to all.

(37:55):
It has to be a genuine faith, though.
It's not just for those, and Ifeel like this is where a lot of
the Pharisees got chipped up,because they thought, as long as
they are super legalistic andfollowing Torah, even if they
don't have the heart behind it,that that was good enough.

(38:17):
But that's not what genuinefaith is.
It has to be a genuine faith inthe Messiah, not just doing a
ritual because you're told to doso, or else it's about your
heart.
It's about having this faithand trust and confessing with
your mouth that Jesus is Lord.

(38:38):
And then, in Romans 11, startingat 11, we hear this I say then
they did not stumble so as tofall, did they?
May it never be.
He says he.
Israel's not rejected, is whathe's saying?
But their false step salvationhas become to the Gentiles to

(38:59):
provoke Israel to jealousy, which is amazing.
Now, if their transgressionleads to riches for the world
and their loss riches for theGentiles, then how much more
their fullness.
But I am speaking to you thatare Gentiles in so far as I,

(39:19):
paul, and I am an emissary tothe Gentiles.
I spotlight my ministry ofsomehow I might provoke to
jealousy, my own flesh and bloodand save some of them, for if
their rejection leads to thereconciliation of the world,
what will their acceptance bebut life from the dead?

(39:41):
You see, paul wants all peopleto come to Jesus.
He doesn't boast about Jews whoare lost.
He is weeping for them, he'ssad for them and he instead
wants us Gentiles to be suchfruit bearers that the Jewish

(40:02):
people realize their error andrepent to Messiah.
And we need to be doing such abetter job at this, my friends.
We need to be evangelizing to,discipling, to becoming friends
with and praying for our Jewishneighbors who are lost and

(40:22):
looking for Messiah.
And I'm going to put some linksdown below of a beautiful
ministry called Jews for Jesus, who are Jewish people who
believe in Messiah.
They work with Gentilebelievers and they go out and
evangelize to the Jewish people.
It's a beautiful ministry.
I hope you check them out.

(40:45):
But that is what we need to bedoing.
We need to be praying for andministering to the chosen people
who have been blinded by liesand deceit and deception.
And this leads to what Paulwrote in Romans 15.

(41:11):
Romans 15 now.
May the God of patience andencouragement grant you to be
like minded with one another andthe manner of Messiah Yeshua,
so that, together, with onevoice, you may glorify God, the
Father of our Lord.

(41:33):
Yeshua.
Messiah, therefore, accept oneanother, just as Messiah also
accepted you, to the glory ofGod, for I declare that Messiah
has become a servant to thecircumcised for the sake of
God's truth, in order to confirmthe promises given to the
patriarchs and for the Gentilesto glorify God for his mercy.

(41:59):
That's what it's all about, myfriends.
Jesus did not come to start anew religion.
He did not come to start a newreligion.
He.
He came to fulfill the Jewishprophecies, the Jewish
scriptures, the Jewish Torah, and we, as Gentiles, have hope

(42:23):
now because we are grafted in ashis people, as his holy people,
into the family of Israel.
If that doesn't bring yourheart, shalom, oh, I don't know
what will what?
Let's end on this note.
Shabbat Shalom, my friends, wehave one more week left about

(42:47):
Messianic prophecy and thencomes Holy Week and we'll do an
Easter special.
But until then, this is Alexis,he slip.
I pray you have a wonderfulrest of your day, shabbat Shalom
, god bless.
