In today's episode of Psych Talk I chat with Jessie Hansen, professional speaker, author, and founder of the Kindest Kid in America program. Jessie holds a bachelors degree in psychology, a masters degree in social work, and is currently pursuing her doctorate in social work where her primary research area is school shootings. Jessie starts the episode by discussing the Kindest Kid in America program and what inspired her to start it. We discuss what kindness and ways that we can show kindness to others. Jessie discusses why teaching and modeling kindness to children is so important and how kindness can serve as a protective factor in schools when it comes to things like bullying and violence. We discuss how kindness relates to mental health and how we as adults can model kindness to our children. We end the episode by discussing how children can identify acts of kindness in others and why that recognition is so important.
