Halloween is around the corner. How do you plan to celebrate your holiday this year? Have you picked up costumes?
This episode we’ll look at Halloween’s spiritual energy and significance. Over the years, Halloween has evolved, and it is currently commercialized, and most people celebrate it for fun. Halloween, also known as All Hallows Eve or All Saints Eve, is celebrated each year on October 31. Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of soul in the Celtics who lived 2000 years ago, mostly in the area that is now Ireland, the EU and the United Kingdom. Northern France celebrated their new year on November 1.
This day marks the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter. It’s a time of year that is often associated with human death. The Celts believed that the night before the New Year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31, they celebrated Samhain, and when it was believed that the ghost of the dead returned to Earth, people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. That said, people have different Halloween histories and celebrate the day in different ways.
Lili grew up in Brazil. Halloween was not part of her upbringing, but they had All Saints Day, which was dedicated to remembering loved ones who had passed on earlier. For Lili they used to go to her dad’s graveyard. Her first experience with Halloween was when she moved to the US. Shannon grew up celebrating Halloween, and loves dressing up. This year she plans on dressing up like a High Priestess from the tarot card deck.
