Speaker 1 (00:00):
You know, guys, I am
completely obsessed with
production and I almost look atgetting things done as like a
science all on its own.
It has its own psychology.
So, for example, procrastination is a killer of
all production and the craziestthing is, if you have 10 hours
(00:20):
to get something done, you feellike you only don't have that
sense of urgency, that timeunder tension until hour 10,
until you feel like you're goingto be late.
So what is it inside ofeverybody, basically okay, that
makes them procrastinate?
To feel like they have moretime and then, when time's
almost up, that's when you beginto do it.
(00:42):
So here's my solution to killit, to kill procrastination and
to be victorious with production.
Okay, what you do is you make alist, okay, and the second that
you're free, the second thatyou're ready and you have free
time to start working on it.
If you have five hours or 10hours, look at that list.
If you had 10 things to do orone, and there's just something
(01:03):
about checking stuff off in abox, okay, you look at the list
and when you hit that check markmost people do a check mark
when you're done.
But here's a trick.
It sounds stupid, but try itout, put a check mark before
something is done and then, atthe other side of it whatever
that thing that you wrote whenit's done, make a second check
mark.
When you check that thing, thatis your body telling your mind
(01:32):
we are starting this task rightnow and you don't get to check
that second box until you'redone.
You see, everybody knows what achecklist is, but there's only
usually one check and it's thesesmall little mental tricks that
you can do that will help youto get shit done, and that's
what I'm all about.
If I have 10 hours of something, I have a list of things or one
big thing you know, and youalso put it in order of priority
and whatnot.
But you have a line, then thegoal and then, after the goal, a
(01:55):
second line or a box.
A line or a box, whatever,right.
You check it.
The second that you're free tobe able to work on that.
And the second you check it,that's your mind telling your
body it's go time, it's time togo.
I'm going to have a greatworkout at the gym.
I'm going to do jujitsu, I'mgoing to do judo.
I'm going to work on my writingfor comedy.
I'm going to kill it.
I'm going to destroy it Bye-bye.
(02:16):
Procrastination, you're done.
Okay, if you start doing that,I guarantee you you're going to
put your day into a whole othergear of motivation.
Okay, You're going to start tonotice that you have more free
time and then you're going tohave to.
You know what you're gonna haveto do.
You're gonna have to makeanother list.
Okay, in my house I have acreative studio.
(02:38):
It is a place that I do all ofmy comedy.
It is a place that I study judoand wrestling and jujitsu and
get smarter.
It's where I walk on stocks forthe stock market.
Okay, and I have tons of thesenotebooks, okay.
And that's why, on my lastpodcast, I talked about why
journaling is such a good thing.
(02:58):
Right, because you might have areally successful day or you
have a life lesson, so why notwrite it down?
That's a form of doing it.
Okay, that's not a checklist,that's like a post-fact lessons
learned kind of thing and youcan write it down.
Or, if you want to make amental note of it, make a video
of it.
Make a private YouTube videoseries, even if you want.
(03:20):
Right, I don't want toprocrastinate from what the old
video was in this one, but mypoint is this Journaling stuff
down.
When you have successful days,or even days that were less
successful, taking those lessonslearned, you should catalog
them, you should note them, andthat's what my last podcast was
about.
Okay, my last episode.
This one is all about the rightnow, getting stuff done, and it
(03:43):
starts with preparation.
You, the right now gettingstuff done and it starts with
preparation.
You take your checklists andyou get everything done, but
make sure you have a spacebefore the activity and after
the activity.
If you do that, I promise youit will be a game changer, bro,
a game changer, I promise you.
Okay, now, if you want to takeit one step further, you could
also have a notebook that isdedicated to medium, short-term,
(04:08):
longer-term goals, such asquarterly, annually, right,
maybe even like a few years orfive years, or long-term goals,
okay, but it's important thatyou always reflect on these
every single day theseshort-term, these daily, these
mid-year, long-term every singleday, these short term, these
daily, these mid, mid year, longterm, every single day.
So your eye is always on theprize, okay, because the last
(04:32):
thing that you want to do inlife is think that you have more
time to get something donebefore the end of the sunlight,
meaning like the day is endright At the end of the day.
You know, I'm a big believer.
I'm a big believer that nothinggood happens after 10 pm.
As far as like production goes,if I have to do the dishes or
(04:52):
something like that, I don'thave to get that much mental
energy right to do it.
So I put everything ahead of itand then I do my cleaning and
everything last.
Does that mean that my cleaningand everything last?
Does that mean that my cleaningmight take a back seat?
Yeah, it does.
I'm being honest with you.
All right, but my production isthrough the roof.
Of course I do my cleaning andstuff like that, but I also feel
(05:17):
like I have zero mental energycreativity first thing in the
morning.
So if it's first thing in themorning or late at night, that's
when I'm doing this stuff whereI'm kind of mindless.
You know what I mean, thosetasks that I just don't want to
pay attention to, because I needto pay attention when someone
is trying to attack me, to chokeme in jujitsu and judo and
(05:38):
wrestling, right when I'm onstage.
I have to have my material.
You know, like a sword, it hasto always be sharp and have to
be able to prepare.
I have to always rehearse, rehearse, rehearse, rehearse
right and my daily to-dos likethis podcast, okay, like going
out and exercising have a checkbefore, have the goal written
(05:59):
and have a check after.
If you do that, I guarantee youyou're going to level up in
life.
Try it out, check it out.
I'm Benja Welldone, peace.
