SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
What's up,
everybody?
All right.
So, as uh I did last week, um aBible verse.
And again, this is not abiblical podcast.
Um, I recently had some Bibleverses that meant so much to me,
and it wasn't on purpose.
I just went to church in thelast four weeks in a row, I um
(00:25):
had something very specific thatwas going on, as I mentioned,
always happens in the craziestway when you go to church.
Um, and the message in the Bibleverse was specific extremely uh
to what I was dealing with andthinking and everything else.
(00:46):
And just knowing that, hearingthat, all right.
Um, as I also mentioned in lastweek's podcast, a lot of things
that Jesus would say was justdrop the mic stuff.
It was like one sentence of alyric of a song that you could
think about for a whole week, but you could think about it
forever.
That's a drop the mic kind of astatement.
(01:07):
It's really just hard, simple, undebatable knowledge that
somebody can say and just walkaway from.
You know, drop the mic like in adiscussion, right?
And um uh this week's Bibleverse is actually Romans 12 2.
And I'll say what it is and thenthe meaning and translation and
(01:29):
uh what it meant to me andeverything behind it.
So Romans 12 2 says, Do notconform to the pattern of this
world, but be transformed by therenewing of your mind.
Then you will be able to testand prove what God's will is,
his good, pleasing, and perfectwill.
Boom, drop the mic.
(01:51):
Now, that's what it says.
What is what does it mean?
Okay.
Um, there's biblically what itmeans than what it means to me.
Biblically, it means that youshouldn't be um adopting the
world's corrupt standards, okay, and instead allow God to
(02:11):
transform your thinking bycontinually renewing their minds
and his words and the HolySpirit.
And I'm actually reading thismore in-depth translation as a
non-biblical scholar, okay, online, but I heard it in
church, right?
Do not confront to this world.
This is a call to resist thepressure of worldly cultures,
(02:32):
values, and the ways of thinkingthat oppose God's teaching.
It means not to be molded orshaped by ungodly customs or
desires that are prevalent insociety.
Instead of conforming, believersare to undergo a fundamental
change, a metamorphosis.
This transformation happensinternally as the mind is remade
(02:53):
to align with God's thoughts andtruth.
It's a process of constantrenewal, not a one-time event,
as the world continues to tryand influence believers'
thoughts.
As the mind is renewed, believers gain the ability to
test or prove what God desiresfor them.
They can then understand hisgood, pleasing, and perfect will
(03:16):
and live according to it.
This ability comes from theexperiencing, from experiencing
the benefits of living by God'sstandards, showing that his ways
are best.
It's really powerful.
It's really powerful, okay?
So reading it from the top againof what does it mean to me?
Do not conform to the patternsof this world, but be
(03:37):
transformed by the renewing ofyour mind.
You know, I was thinking as a uhstand-up comedian, um, I had
been, I don't want to saystruggling, but I've been like
almost struggling lately betweenmy thoughts and uh just
different aspects of comedy, youknow, trying to get ahead.
(03:59):
All right.
And um I recently had therevelation of instead of trying
to be better than everybodyelse, think about it like this.
If everybody was playing onesport and if everybody had all
different types of support forentertainment or the best gyms,
if it was a sport, like aphysical sport or whatever it
(04:23):
is, okay, and you had nothing,it's gonna be pretty challenging
to be better than somebody else.
However, my point is this if youdo something that is different,
you're in a you're in a sport,you're in a league all of your
own.
So I started thinking, I'm gonnastart doing my comedy, okay,
(04:43):
different.
I'm it's I'm not gonna get intohow, okay, because that's kind
of complicated, but I'm gonnamake sure that my comedy is a
different type of comedy, andthat's essentially what I've
started.
And the um the reaction I'mgetting from the crowds and
(05:04):
everything else is somethingcompletely new.
I mean, it's it's a littlelaughing and everything, but
it's so different compared towhat everybody else does.
And um as I was having thesethoughts and this realization
about being different when Iwent to church that Sunday and
how I could be different, it waslike positive affirmation.
(05:27):
And to me, it felt like God wasspeaking to me, saying, you
know, you're on the right track.
Continue to do what you're doingand be different.
Because again, if it was acompetition of some sort, if
some guy has a lot moreexperience, a better gym, and
everything, it's not really fairstandards, let alone if he had
marketing and support andeverything else.
I get that, right?
(05:48):
And if I try to be better thanthat guy, it's gonna be a pretty
hard.
All right.
And I it's like they always say,be different.
So be different is the shorttranslation that I was already
thinking.
And I went to church, Romans 12,2 is the Bible verse.
It was the main Bible verse ofthe message for that day, which
(06:09):
says, Do not conform to thepattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing ofyour mind.
Be different.
And when I heard that, firstthing I did is I try to write it
down.
I didn't have anything to writeit down, and all the Bible
verse, excuse me, all themessages are online.
So when I got home, I try tofind out what it was.
But when I finally found it was,I wrote it down.
(06:31):
And I write it down every singleday along with two other
messages.
So my point is this um what Ijust said may me may mean
something different to you, toeverybody.
That's what it meant to me.
And that's one of the reasonswhy I don't just really love
going to church.
Um, and I don't really read theBible.
Um, I don't want to say that Idon't have time, but the time
(06:55):
that I do have to really study,I give it to my pastor.
Um I used to read the Bible, butI don't read it anymore, and I'm
not making excuses.
Um, but I I try to fill my dayas much as I can possible with
everything.
And I'm still working on my newschedule because my my schedule
has changed.
(07:16):
So uh I was actually, ironicallyenough, thinking about at the
very least, getting a Bible appon my phone so that I could look
at the Bible uh or read it if Iwanted to or learn learn more
about something.
Um but specifically dealing withuh church and Bible verses and
stuff, man, it just meant somuch to me.
(07:38):
Um and it's it's making me notjust think but really believe
that um by doing thingsdifferent, I'm in a competition
all of all on my own.
Okay, and I can't be compared ifI'm if I'm different.
So instead of trying to dosomething the way that somebody
does better than them, okay, ifI do something amazing but
(08:02):
completely different, I'm gonnabe a lot more noticed and that's
gonna help me out.
Um and I hope, I pray that atsome point on a much bigger
venue to a much bigger audience,I'll be explaining this story
all over again because it wouldhave happened.
I would be um so much morerecognized and known and stuff
(08:23):
like that, which matters verylittle to me in real life, aside
from the fact that uh to dostand-up comedy professionally,
I have to have a wide, vastaudience uh to um not just make
happy and entertain, I get that,uh, but in return to to pay me
so that I can live and supportuh my loved ones.
(08:45):
So uh with that being mentioned,I hope everybody has a beautiful
day.
Please check out that Bibleverse.
I'm Benjawell done.
Remember, it's Romans 12, 2.
Do not conform to the pattern ofthis world, but be transformed
by the renewing of your mind.
Wow.
Then you will be able to testand approve what God's will is,
(09:08):
his good, pleasing, and perfectwill.
So awesome.
