Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to PH Spotlight, a community for you
to build your public healthcareer with.
Join us weekly right here, andI'll be here too.
Your host, sujani Siva from PHSpot.
Hello and welcome to anotherepisode of the PH Spot podcast.

(00:21):
This is Sujani here and it's asolo episode today.
I know we've been airing anumber of guest interviews and I
hope you've been enjoying them,but today's episode is a
special one because the virtualdoors to the Public Health
Career Club are currently open.
So if you are listening to thisepisode the day it goes out

(00:44):
April 10th, 2024, that meansthat you can join the Public
Health Career Club and thevirtual doors are open.
Or you know the enrollment isopen until Friday, april 12th.
So you have a couple of dayseven if you're listening to this
a little bit later to join usinside this community, and it's

(01:06):
a community dedicated to helpingyou build your dream public
health career.
It's a global membership.
It's a community we puttogether because you, our PHSpot
community, asked us for it andPHSpot, our mission and our goal
is to show you that you canhave an impact in the world,

(01:27):
right, and that's the reasonthat we do the work we do in
public health, but also feelfulfilled in our careers and
achieve our wildest dreams.
And I know that we are allunique individuals.
We have all these wild dreamsand goals that we want to
achieve and often, you know, sometimes we battle it out with

(01:52):
our nine-to-five jobs andwanting to make an impact in the
world and wanting to pursue allthese other ideas and
initiatives.
And I believe that if we cancreate the space and community
in that kind of like supportiveenvironment, we actually can
achieve all of that.
And so this community, we builtit and brought in peers, people

(02:15):
like you and me who are workingin public health, who are
really driven to grow, toconnect, to inspire each other
and to really achieve more grow,to connect, to inspire each
other and to really achieve more.
And we launched it in October of2022.
And you know that was the firsttime ever that we welcomed
about 100 of you to join thePublic Health Career Club and

(02:37):
since have modified theprogramming.
We've evolved, we've, you know, added all these great features,
but at the core of it, it'sstayed true to what it was meant
to be, which was createcommunity, and community looks
like a different thing fordifferent people inside our

(02:58):
membership.
Ultimately, it's a place wherepeople that are on a mission to
essentially change the worldthrough the work that they're
doing to connect, inspire and betogether and then kind of like
tangibly, what do we actuallyachieve inside the Public Health

(03:19):
Career Club?
We've been able to break itdown into these three big
buckets, right.
So people often come into thePublic Health Career Club
because they need help getting ajob, whether it's their first
job out of school or their nextjob, or they're just needing to
figure things out with their job, and so we have things like

(03:39):
resume clinics and office hoursto help you fix up your CV and
brush up on interview skills andreally get you ready right.
And again, these are thingsthat you don't have to do alone.
So if you're thinking like Ireally need this supportive
community around me to help memove on to this next job, this

(04:00):
is where we can help you do that, and we even have a job board
where people post opportunitiesfrom their own organization not
just random jobs that they seeonline and you can ask them
questions about it.
Right, you can also talk toyour peers about their
experiences working at differentorganization and then even ask
them if they know anybody intheir network who's hiring?

(04:21):
Because nobody likes to dothose cold reach outs on
LinkedIn or random emails, right?
So this is a community that'sthere to support you to build
your career and specificallyhelp you get a job.
So that's kind of that firstbucket.
The second bucket is a huge oneand it's something that I've
heard over the past seven yearssince building PH Spot, and it's

(04:46):
to help you figure out yourpath.
And so often people will writeto me and say like, hey, I
really need some guidance infiguring out the next steps in
my career.
And so the Public Health CareerClub helps you do that.
Right.
So we bring in experts.
They run different sessions andworkshops.
We have live training talks, coaching sessions.

(05:08):
We even have a series calledCareer Stories so you get to
learn about different people'spaths and kind of the steps that
they took to get to where theyare today.
And we also have office hourswith incredible mentors and you
can leverage these office hoursfor more personalized support,
right?
So the workshops and the talksthey're there for you to kind of

(05:29):
listen, assess, ask questions, get inspired, and then the
mentor office hours gives youspace to kind of work through
some of your personal challengesand the mentors I've chosen.
These are handpicked by me,individuals who I know are
completely dedicated to reallyhelping out individuals like you

(05:53):
and me in public health whojust need a little bit of
guidance figuring out the nextfew steps, and so, completely
vetted by me personally, individuals who I know you know
their hearts are in the rightplace to really support.
So that's the second bucket.
So the first bucket is to helpget a job.
The second bucket is figuringout your path.
The third bucket is to growyour network.

(06:16):
If you've ever heard me speakat a workshop webinar, heard me
on LinkedIn writing, the numberone thing I talk about is
growing your network, and it'ssomething that you need to do
now, immediately, if anythingyesterday.
It's the number one tip I offerwhen it comes to growing your

(06:40):
career and kind of you as aperson, right and so, inside the
Public Health Career Club, youget to meet like-minded peers,
mentors, speakers, coaches, andyou get to connect and build
meaningful relationships withthem.
So you don't need to coldmessage anybody on LinkedIn.
You don't need to, you know, feel nervous that nobody's going
to get back to you.

(07:01):
This is a space that's helpingyou do that, and we help you do
that.
We don't just tell you here's alist of people, go find them.
We organize social hours, weorganize events, there's
questions of the week that youcan engage with in our portal,
and so we've created a spacewhere it makes it easier for you
to grow your network.

(07:21):
Essentially and I'll probablydo you know next week's episode
on networking and kind of theimportance of that but all I can
say in short is that if youhave not prioritized growing
your network, you need to, andthe Public Health Career Club
helps you do that.
So, getting a job, figuring outyour path, growing your network

(07:43):
those are the three things thatwe focus on inside the Public
Health Career Club.
It's a global membership peoplefrom all around the world coming
together to essentially buildtheir dream public health career
and help each other do it.
So if this sounds likesomething that you want to learn
more about, go visit phspotorgslash club.

(08:08):
You'll have all the informationyou need there, and if you have
any other questions beyond, youknow all the information that's
on the website.
Don't hesitate to message medirectly on LinkedIn or email us
at hello at phspotorg, or findsome way to reach out to us.
We're on all the social mediaplatform.
So the Public Health CareerClub is currently open.

(08:32):
Today is April 10th, so you haveanother two more days to join
the Public Health Career Club.
And if you aren't sure whetherthis is for you and whether you
want to invest, you know, into aprogram like this, there is a
trial offer that we will beproviding.

(08:54):
Join the portal, join some ofthe live talks and training and
mentor hours whatever isavailable on the calendar for
this month.
Test it out for yourself, seeif it's something that you know
fits what you're looking for and, if it is, stay on.

gave it a try, right?

(09:15):
So I can't wait to see youinside the Public Health Career
Club.
If you do join, please send mea note on LinkedIn.
Let me know that you're part ofthe Career Club and we can
connect there as well personally, and I hope to see you at a
live event in the future.
There's an exciting panel thatwe're hosting this month inside
the Public Health Career Clubfor anybody interested in the

(09:38):
DRPH program.
So we'll have a panel of threespeakers who are going to talk
about their experiences, andthese are individuals who have
graduated from a DRPH at leastfive years ago, so they've kind
of figured out how to use thedegree.
And then those same individualswill be then hosting office
hours over the next few monthsto answer any personal questions

(10:01):
that you may have.
So you know, there's a coolsession like that happening.
There are a couple of careerstories happening, different
public health professionalsjourneys in kind of everything
they had done.
We definitely have resumeclinics every month, we have
mentor hours every month, wehave social hours every month.
So those are programming thatyou can expect, and then we'll

(10:23):
sprinkle in workshops andspecial talks and panels and
things like that every week.
So check it out, join the trialat the very least for 14 days,
see if it's something that youwill enjoy and then stick around
and see what we have for therest of the year.
Cool, so until next time.

(10:46):
This is Sujani, and I hope tosee you on the next episode and
inside the Public Health CareerClub.
Can't wait to meet you there.
