(00:11):
Welcome back, everybody, to Pull Hook Golf, thepodcast.
I'm your host, Matt Cook.
Tonight, we got our co-host, Buttsy.
(00:42):
We've also got our tour insider, Brent Grant, with us as well.
People are stoked to have him here as well.
And guess what we got back as well, folks?
We've got the soundboard back.
This new setup, if you're watching the podcaston YouTube, Millions.co, or on Rumble,
(01:05):
certainly, you will see that I've got a newbackdrop behind me.
This is the other side of the studio thatnobody's been able to see.
So I wanted to get it set up to where we've gotthe soundboard here when the boys are not in
studio, and we get that back up and going.
It's been a popular thing that a lot of peoplehave been DMing me.
They're like, when is the soundboard comingback?
We want the applause.
(01:26):
We want the music, especially on the outro.
And you know what's crazy?
I was out the other day playing golf.
Actually, it was probably about a week.
Well, it was not this past weekend, but theweekend prior.
And I was out with some guys, and all of asudden, I hear somebody go, peace out, A-Town,
down.
And I'm like, what did you say?
(01:50):
And they're like, it's the outro to the PullHook Golf podcast.
And I'm like, okay.
That's that's me.
Buttsy and Brent.
So, yeah, it was kinda cool to
see I'm not alone out there
in the wild.
It is funny, though.
People see me outside of this show and have noidea who the hell I am.
(02:11):
Not a clue.
Except at Grass League, there were a few guysthat, you know, they kinda did the double take
look, and they're like,
oh, I know that hair.
And then they're
just kinda like, hey, bro.
What's what's up?
And granted, they they still can't, like, puttogether how like, why do I recognize this
person or anything like that?
(02:32):
But we had some fun out there at Grass Leaguethis past week.
You know, we had the qualifier.
We had some things going on, and we'recertainly gonna talk about that.
We've obviously got our TR for Porro Buttsy tokick off the episode.
We've got the Korn Ferry recap with Brent Grantthat happened down in Tulum that he
participated in.
We've got the Byron Nelson recap we're gonna goover.
(02:52):
We got LIV Golf Korea recap.
And then we've got the early PGA Championshippreview as we're only a couple weeks away.
We've also got truck golfer in here sayinghello, gents.
Salute to everybody.
Before we do get into this episode, we do wannagive a shout-out to our sponsors.
(03:12):
So first off, Devereux Golf folks.
I'm rocking the polo tonight.
Brent has his T-shirt on.
Buttsy's got his T-shirt on.
And, folks, you can get 20% off over atDevereuxGolf.com.
That is spelled devereuxgolf.com.
Go ahead and get yourself some.
(03:35):
It's gonna
spell it.
Hook 20.
20 percent off.
And then also, folks, we've got a new promocode as well for our listeners from Vice Golf.
So Vice Golf has a promo code pullhook.
So just p u l l h o o k, 10% off up to twodozen golf balls over at Vice Golf.
(03:57):
And then if you plug in that promo code, everymonth, they run new specials and so forth.
So definitely be on the lookout for that.
Plug in that promo code, pullhook atvicegolf.com.
Alright.
Let's get into the Tiaf report with Buttsy.
You know, last week, Buttsy, we were talkingabout pre-round drinks.
(04:18):
Now I wanna talk a little bit about what do youeat before a round?
Like, what's your
Man, this is probably a lot like, excuse me,the drink scenario.
It depends on what time you're playing.
If it's early in the morning, you gotta makesure that you've taken a nice big that day
already.
So, to accompany that choice, I would say getup two or three hours before your tee time,
(04:46):
give your body a chance to get in there anddrop off King Kong's finger before you head
over to the golf course.
But, yeah, so if that happens and you get fullclearance, I'd probably go with something
especially in the morning devoid of greaseregardless of if you're hungover or not.
I would
not eat anything greasy because you don't wannadrop King Kong's finger and then end up on the
(05:07):
golf course and having broken the seal, thatbig plug comes out from the night before.
Now, you throw a bunch of grease on there andyou could your pants out there.
So, I would say something with a high fiber, even like a lunch-based club sandwich, even
though it's early in the morning, give yourselfsomething to kinda sit in there, fuel the body,
and that's not gonna slip right through.
(05:30):
Playing later in the day, all bets are off.
Eat whatever the fuck you want.
I would say anytime after 11, free reign.
So there's that.
That is pro advice right there.
I've got nothing to really piggyback off ofthat or anything.
You hit the nail on the head.
You know, the biggest thing ever with eating ameal pre-round is just not to shit yourself.
(05:54):
And I think that's great advice for everybodyout there, especially, you know, people that
haven't played in competitive events in a longtime, and all of a sudden you go play in a
competitive event, might have some diarrhea.
So make sure
Nerves.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It can really get to you.
It's a real thing, folks.
You know, we've been talking about it withBrent here for a little bit as well.
It's only a matter of time until we start tosee some brilliance out of this young man.
(06:18):
We'll get into that here in just a few moments.
What's that saying, Matty?
Is it tequila makes your clothes fall off?
That is accurate.
Nerves will make your turds fall out.
That's fantastic.
Now let's get into the grass league recap.
So we had an episode last week where we satdown with Todd Dobson over at Grass Clippings.
(06:44):
And for the grass league, he is obviously onthe broadcast.
He's their media side, to the group offounders, and my goodness gracious, was he
awesome on the broadcast as well.
I hope some people saw that on Peacock.
I certainly did.
But I do want to say that this was I mean, let's start here.
(07:10):
Let's start with the qualifier on Wednesday.
Okay?
So the qualifier on Wednesday, Buttsy, youparticipated in this, and what a fun
experience.
I mean, I was able to go out there and watch itfor nine holes, and it was just really cool.
Even the vibe that was there and everything wasjust really chill, relaxed, and while it felt
(07:34):
professional and big, it was, and that's wherekind of the nerves came in.
But talk to us a little bit about the qualifierand your experience with it.
My god.
Yeah.
I mean, I've played there quite a few times inthe skins game at night on Wednesdays and
totally different golf course.
Kudos to the superintendent.
I mean, it was I've never played a tour event, but if I had to imagine, like this place was
(07:59):
doctored up, very akin to that, a double cut, rolled, dried out, rock hard, fast as hell,
couldn't leave it above the hole, and nerveswere real.
Yeah.
Got stuck with this little block shot quite afew times, and then you could very easily get
on tilt and try to make something from 10 to 15feet and end up with another 8 to 10-footer
(08:22):
coming back real quick.
So, it was a fine line between cracking theseal and making some birdies or costing
yourself drastically.
So kudos to how it was set up.
It was fucking awesome.
Yeah.
It looked fast and furious out there, I willsay, during that qualifier.
And there were some tough stretches too.
(08:42):
I mean, the one thing that I noticed is thatthey had a lot of groups out there, but they
had an issue where on a few holes, it gotbacked up quite a bit.
And, I mean, I remember the one hole where yousat on it for a good 35, 45 minutes.
Like, no joke, folks.
(09:02):
Like, I'm not exaggerating.
It was a good 35, 45 minutes before Buttsy wasable to hit a shot.
So imagine, like, you're sitting there waitingaround.
It just made it for a tough environment, andthat's where I think some of the guys that got
in early, that started out that qualifier, theyended up being the ones towards the top of that
(09:24):
leaderboard.
A lot of them anyways.
So that being said, wasn't the, wasn't the bestround ever, I will say, as you alluded to with
some of the blocks and whatnot.
I've seen you play really good golf, but thosenerves even today, for instance, Brent and I
played in the skins game over at MountainShadows.
Like, it's not a big deal.
(09:46):
However, like, getting in there and not havingplayed, like, in some skins games and so forth
recently, like, I felt some nerves on thatfirst tee.
Poor Brent thought that he was in for a longday when he watched I chunked the first tee
shot, and then, the yips came back in with thechipping, and it went over the green, back over
(10:07):
the green, back over the green chunk.
And we're just sitting there.
We're and and I look at Brent.
Poor Brent is just like, oh, no.
This is gonna be a long day.
It's hard to explain to people what it's likewhen it feels like it counts all of a sudden
and you're not used to that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
100.
Yeah.
100%.
I mean, to be fair, I mean, it's it's not aneasy place to chip at to begin with.
(10:32):
I mean, it's it's grainy.
It's Bermuda out there.
I mean, you don't know.
It's not like you spent 45 minutes on the onthe putting green or whatever.
You got out there, you showed up, and you andyou had a tough first hole, but I I I thought
you played I thought you played just fine.
And none of us made any putts aside from
No.
Two putts the whole time.
So
Yeah.
That was the disappointing part.
(10:53):
Once we got into it, by the third hole, Brent'slike, oh, okay.
This is gonna be a fine round.
Matt actually is making a good
You woke
up.
Walking out or getting out of your car afterworking all morning and then going to the first
tee immediately and teeing up doesn't equatewell, I will say.
But the whole point that I'm trying to make isthat, like, looking at pressure situations that
(11:17):
you're not accustomed to and dealing with thosenerves, it's like not practicing and all of a
sudden showing up and expecting that you'regonna do really well, but getting yourself back
into the competitive kind of spirit andeverything.
It was cool to see Buttsy in that form.
It was fun today being out there in the skinsgame with Brent and just being able to play.
(11:38):
So looking forward to tomorrow night with theWednesday night skins game over at Grass
Clippings.
But going back to the grass league.
So Wednesday, there was the qualifier.
Now for anybody that wasn't aware, Trott golferand I were trying to get in at the last minute.
Unfortunately, the group, the spot that wethought was available had already been taken.
(12:00):
They just hadn't updated the site yet, butTrott was willing to throw in some money.
And I actually think we would've played prettywell, but who knows?
You know?
The nerves always kinda can set in.
But, Trott, if you're listening right now, certainly next year, let's do it because I do
(12:21):
wanna say that seeing Phoenix United out there, those guys have so much swag, and I'm putting
it out there in the universe.
I wanna be a part of that team.
I wanna play for that team.
And I told Buttsy this weekend, I'm like, I'mgonna start getting back into the gym.
I'm gonna start practicing.
Like, I wanna start getting back into thiswhole thing.
(12:41):
It kinda lit a fire under my ass.
I saw, you know, just even in the qualifier, some guys that were out there that I'm like, I
should be out there playing.
Like, there's no reason why I shouldn't be outthere.
Yeah.
We could have been partnered up and done, bro.
Yeah.
I agree.
I wish we had.
And that was actually a little bit of thefeedback that I received that I didn't push
(13:02):
hard enough to get you and I put into thatspot.
I should've, you know, that was the feedbackanyways, around that because I'm like, man, I
really want to play.
I kinda threw it out there multiple times andso forth, but nobody ever really bit.
So, just throwing it out there.
Shout out to Phoenix United.
You guys had so much swag.
(13:23):
It was so freaking cool.
The baseball jerseys, even the caddy outfits.
I started showing some of my friends around thecaddy outfits and it's just like, holy shit.
Those caddy outfits went so hard.
It was like the khaki color with Phoenix Unitedon it and they were onesie caddy outfits.
It just was so sick.
(13:43):
So, once again, throwing it out there into theuniverse for whoever's listening and, I wanna
be a part of this.
I wanna I'd like, again, it lit an absolutefire, and I believe all three of us are kinda
actively trying to get into the grass league inone way or another, which, again, kinda is a
testament to what they've been able to buildwithin just two years.
(14:06):
And next one's at Goat Hill.
Yeah.
Next one's at Goat Hill in California, SanDiego.
San Diego.
Yeah.
And that's gonna be a great event.
And then at the end of the year, they gotanother one.
But for the open, because, you know, I don'twant anything necessarily given to me.
I wanna go out there and earn it.
You know?
Three hundred and sixty days away, asStratGolfer says, but I've got some work to do.
(14:29):
I've got some work to do on the swing, somepracticing, and obviously getting back into the
gym.
But I've got plans already being put into placearound all of that.
So looking forward to the journey there, andyou guys will be hearing all about it as we go
through with this podcast.
It'll be something that we probably the threeof us will actively talk about week in and week
out.
(14:49):
Absolutely.
Need some nude sauna sessions with Wyndham.
That's I don't know where to take it from thereother than the fact that this event being out
there, seeing the winners, the New YorkBluebirds.
Okay?
So, Kurt Byrum's son ended up winning withWatkins at 19 under for the New York Bluebirds.
(15:13):
They went off in the final round shot sevenunder on the back nine.
They were 12 under in their final round andthey took out Ricky Romano and Wood from the
Munis from Wyndham squad.
They probably cleared it out, bro.
Romano was out there?
They were 11 under in that final round, andthey held onto that lead for a long time
(15:35):
because wow.
The conditions got tough that night.
And yeah, I will just say that it was lookinglike 16 under was maybe gonna be a playoff.
And then all of a sudden, Byrum and Watkinsjust went ham out there.
So 19 under for them.
Romano and Wood finished at 16 under.
(15:56):
And then you had Marty Sanchez and I can'tpronounce the other guy's last name.
Batis Baga.
Batis Baga.
Yeah.
15 under for him with the LA Roses.
Now Marty Sanchez was a fill-in.
He was a replacement for a guy that was injuredon the LA Roses.
So, coming off the bench and obviously playingfreaking phenomenal.
(16:17):
So that just goes to show you the level oftalent that is out there in the grass league.
And I'll tell you, man, even the broadcast wasgreat.
Like, being out there in person, I'll firsttalk about being there in person.
Like, they've got a stage set up.
They had a DJ playing.
I mean, you had the Good Good guys out therewith the Dallas Horsemen.
(16:38):
Brad Dalke was playing some golf.
They were in the lead after the first round.
They kinda struggled, didn't really makeanything in that final round, but Good Good had
a golf cart with a DJ on the back of it, whichwas the first time I've ever seen that.
It was absolutely sick.
So yeah.
The vibes were high.
The vibes were great.
The restaurant just opened up there, and thenthey also have the outdoor bar.
(17:02):
Most of the people, and this is the one thingthat I would say in the future, obviously, this
is their second freaking year.
Right?
So everybody was kinda huddled around thoseareas because going out into the golf course,
it kinda got a little bit like you would needto know that golf course to get around out
there.
And even then when I came up for the qualifierwith Buttsy, I was like, I got I all of a
(17:26):
sudden, I'm like, where are these guys hittingfrom?
Because some of the tees, they play fromdifferent tee boxes than the normal routing of
the golf course.
So that's the only thing I would say golfcourse or, like, for the fans, that would be
the only thing is having a little bit betterkinda directions and where to walk and
everything.
As far as the broadcast, alright, so this onehits home for me, obviously.
(17:50):
I thought Todd Dobson, Parker McLachlin, andJeff Eisenband or Bond.
I don't know how to say his last name either.
I'm terrible with names.
But those three guys absolutely freakingmurdered it in the booth.
Like, listening to them, it was as good, in myopinion, as CBS with Jim Nantz in the booth.
(18:10):
Like, Todd Dobson is a hell of a colorcommentator.
He really is.
With everything.
Like and he knows everybody, and he knows thestories.
Like, you heard him on the pod last week.
I mean, he was just he's passionate about it.
He he went to school for this and literallyabsolutely crushes it when he gets on there.
(18:32):
Parker is phenomenal as well.
I love Parker's tone, his delivery, andeverything, and obviously, he's got a wealth of
knowledge about the game.
And then the guy that Peacock NBC brought inthat, Jeff Eisenband, He was great as well.
Obviously, your true kind of voice, vocal, guy.
(18:54):
And, that being said, the encourse, I was kindaleft and and this could have been due to
technical difficulties.
I don't know how many people were watching thebroadcast on Peacock.
It was
a streaming issue big time.
Yeah, and I'll chalk it up to that, but I alsofelt like it could have been better.
Now, Nick Bonilla from the Bev Boys Golf, he'sanother DevRoe guy too that, I'm not gonna shit
(19:20):
on them whatsoever.
Him and Archie Bradley, who is Archie'sbaseball.
And, you know, they were out there kinda doingtheir thing, but with the technical
difficulties and everything, it just didn't gogreat.
In my opinion, that's the one area.
And that's the area that I was like, man, Iwould have loved to be out there interviewing
guys.
And obviously, we do it for a living, right?
(19:42):
We sit here and we literally ask questions andwe interview people.
So, decent track golfer says Archie could takea hike.
I get it though.
Right?
It is that, and Brent and I were talking aboutit today.
It's that give and take.
They don't wanna be known for bringing in allthese influencers and everything, but it's the
(20:04):
double-edged sword where they know they needthe reach.
Yeah.
If they've got Nick Bonilla with his following, they've got Archie with his following, it's
gonna be helpful.
And so I know Todd doesn't wanna be known askind of influencer golf or anything along those
lines, but that was kind of the little bit ofvibe that I got from that side of it.
(20:27):
Yeah.
I agree.
Call me bitter.
I don't care.
Oh, I don't care.
To be out there.
I mean, one way or another.
Thinking I think those guys just need to get toknow you more than anything.
I don't see any lack of inclusion goingforward.
No.
I think, you know, we're big proponents of theGrass League if you can't tell.
(20:49):
And yeah, we'll be involved one way or another.
We will make sure that we get out there.
And the Todd Dobson, just to interject, theTodd Dobson pod with us.
That is a full-blown, like, perfect synopsis ofeverything of what they're doing.
Like, it is 100%.
You wanna know what's going on with GrassLeague?
(21:10):
We captured it, it's recorded there, and Idon't know that it's recorded anywhere else in
one place, with that extent of coverage, youknow, about, like, the depth and the story and
all that.
We can't find the name.
You can find bits and pieces, but that was thewhole deal.
Yeah.
And here's the thing.
Like, Card Barn guys, Kyle, Archie was thebest.
Like, obviously, he's throwing that in therefor a reason to mess around.
(21:35):
But here's the thing.
Like, during the draft, I thought he was great.
I thought he was a great personality during thedraft.
And again, like, once you get on-course action,it's like you gotta have people that know what
they're talking about when it comes to that andcan ask really good questions and so forth.
And even grab guys to bring them over to havethat conversation, I think would have been
(21:57):
helpful to add some additional color.
But again, the guys in the booth did aphenomenal job.
So, shout out to them.
And once again, shout out to Phoenix Unitedbecause again, it was unreal.
They brought out the two Porsches.
And I was wondering, how did they get the twoPorsches out there?
Like, they had one out on the 18th tee.
(22:20):
They probably drove it out there.
They must have, but, like, even driving in onthe cart path would have been a little sketchy.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, these are old-school Porsches that aresick and, obviously, all decked out.
Forward Golf was out there.
I mean, you had a plethora of brands andeverything.
It was just a super cool vibe.
So, again, Grass League, I don't wanna spendtoo much time, but we're throwing it out there
(22:45):
in the universe.
We wanna be a part of it with Phoenix United.
Yeah.
A hundred percent.
Yeah.
There might be, there might be some—we'll teaseit a little bit here—but there might be some
things happening around, possibly linking upplaying some golf.
For sure.
(23:06):
So we shall see.
We shall see.
Buttsy's best shot.
What was that?
The fifteenth hole tee shot?
Was that what it was?
No.
I'm gonna say this.
It was your bunker shot on what is number nine, which normally is the eighteenth hole.
That
bunker shot too.
That was dead.
Yeah.
That was a good one.
(23:26):
Yeah.
Yeah.
And then you stuck it on 15.
Right?
Yeah, 15.
I don't know if anybody else hit it that close.
You kind of had to be left-handed to even havea chance at that flag.
Once you got down there and saw what was goingon with the pin, it made sense why there was an
hour wait especially with the grandstand rightthere.
(23:48):
But, honestly, did you see Hole 1?
Yeah.
I would all see, dude, I was the only one thathit the green out of six people, and it's 55
yards.
Like,
it's crazy.
That thing was crazy.
So that's one of the holes that kinda threw mefor a loop because they flipped the nines, and
then they have the tee box up right next to thetee box for the eighteenth.
(24:09):
And I'm walking around, and I'm like, where inthe hell are they hitting from?
Because I got to you on the third hole.
So I'm walking down, like, technically thefirst.
I'm walking, like, in front of the green.
And these guys are up on the tee box, and I'mlike, the hell is going on?
Like, why do these guys look like they'reswinging at me?
That's what I was kinda saying.
(24:30):
Like, the routing of the course, I just feellike there could be better kinda, like,
directions as to, like, where to go for fans, for the
Signs up.
For the patrons.
Yeah.
I think that would be helpful for next yearbecause there were too many people just kinda
huddled around the main clubhouse.
But, man, what a freaking awesome event.
You know, Bryson DeChambeau was out there, andthen I found out it's Quinn XCII is the name of
(24:54):
the artist.
I had no idea.
Quinn XCII.
And then my wife tells me, she's like, yeah.
You know Quinn XCII.
We used to listen to music from them while wewere in New York City on the subway.
She's like, I used to play music all the time.
I'm like, if I heard the songs, I wouldprobably know it.
But those were great concerts.
Ninety-two fans.
(25:14):
Big Quinn XCII.
We love that.
Now let's get into the Korn Ferry Tulum recap.
We're kinda going underground here tonight, andI love that for us.
I kinda dig this kind of style when we'retalking about the underbelly of golf where the
real golf happens.
Not the, you know, not the millionaires on thePGA Tour.
(25:36):
We're talking about the guys that are grindingit out or trying to find their way or maybe
they have found a home on the grass league.
But, Brent, why don't you take us through theKorn Ferry Tulum?
Recap that bad boy.
Yeah.
Recap
that bad boy.
Yeah.
So long story short, as far as the course isconcerned, this is where the Latin Tour held
(25:58):
their championship for a few years.
It's probably, I mean, it's ranked.
I think it's number one in Mexico as far asgolf courses are concerned and it absolutely
put on a show every single hole either has ahas a hazard that is woods and pretty much
unplayable or it's through the green where youbasically got it teed up again.
(26:21):
Well, moth teed up again and and basically behitting three from the tee box.
So, so it's it's pretty difficult.
It plays pretty long.
It's tough.
Yeah, it's hard.
I mean the fact that 9 under won is just I meanit's it's just pretty clear that that doesn't
really even happen on the PGA Tour very muchunless it's uh-uh you know a windy day at a
(26:42):
major so that was awesome.
I mean the cut was when I walked off the courseon Friday morning, the cut was 1 over and it
made it all the way to 3 over.
So, that's unprecedented.
That doesn't really ever happen.
And it was pure, you know, really excited.
(27:04):
Everybody loved the golf course, but it was allpaspalum, so it was sticky around the greens.
Really tough to get it up and down if you didmiss the green.
But if you were on fire with the putter, whichI was during the second round, you could get it
going out there and make some birdies.
But the fact that Bryson Nimmer came all theway back from having zero status two years ago
(27:28):
to basically almost writing his ticket to thePGA Tour is a great story for him, and winning
in a playoff makes it even more sweet.
So all congrats to him and, you know, obviouslyreally thankful that they put on the show that
they did but
Can you tell us about this Bryson Nimmer?
You know anything about him?
Yeah.
You know about Bryson.
So he's like 5'7", 158 pounds, just kind ofyour good old boy.
(27:52):
He's a Mizuno guy, so he's got some taste, which is nice.
But yeah, I think he came out of college a fewyears ago, had a brief stint on the Korn Ferry
Tour and just couldn't crack it.
Couldn't get through the fact that, you know, Imean, look at the guys that are now on the PGA
Tour that are winners, right?
These are all the guys that he was competingagainst, and so the year that I had on the PGA
(28:13):
Tour in '23 was his kind of year, if you will,on the Korn Ferry Tour, and he just didn't
crack it and then made it all the way backthrough Q-School in '24.
And he's been playing well.
He got in this week and got it done.
So just a testament to hard work, in which heis a very hard worker.
(28:34):
So
Talk to us about that first round and thechallenges you ran into because there were
quite a few double bogeys on that scorecard, myfriend.
Yeah.
It's easy to do out there.
Like I said, every single hole's got a hazardor through the green, and I didn't do a good
job of preparing.
It had been a long couple of weeks.
I mean, my suitcase was about as light as it'sever been because I was only prepared for one
(28:58):
tournament.
So, I packed enough for one tournament, playedin that event, then Monday qualified for the
next one.
Obviously, Dallas was a really long week withregards to the fact that we basically spent all
day at a golf course and played four holes andthen played the Monday qualifier.
Byron got to Tulum at 4 p.m.
(29:18):
on Tuesday afternoon and teed off.
I think it was like 12:30 on Thursday, but itwas hot.
It was humid, and I think I worked out a littletoo hard, but the big thing was, and this is
kind of going back to what Buttsy and you guyswere talking about initially with food, we
actually had like a dozen guys drop out fromfood poisoning throughout the entire event.
(29:41):
So, I was very, very cautious to begin withwhat I was consuming, and I've kind of made the
joke earlier today, but you can only eat somuch rice and grilled chicken.
So, I didn't do a good job of preparing, butthe very next day with a 7 a.m.
tee time and about four hours of sleep, obviously, we went out there and did what we do
and had a good opportunity to make the cut butcame up one shot short.
(30:05):
So, but it was a full round.
second round though.
That second round was something special.
You had it going.
Yeah.
It was great.
It was staying in the moment and really therecap for the three weeks in general is the
idea that, you know, when I kind of not clickedin but really like clicked out, like just
completely pulled myself out of the resultwhether it was the back nine on Friday at LECOM
(30:28):
or the back nine of Saturday afternoon inDallas or in this case a full round in Tulum.
You know, we're building towards really trulystaying in the moment and actually seeing what
that looks like and seeing it come to fruition.
So, we're building, we're getting better, andobviously we got some interesting opportunities
coming up, but not many of them are going to beKorn Ferry Tour, but we're working towards
(30:52):
whatever we get.
Well, I'm gonna tell you right now, it's only amatter of time.
I've said this to you previously a couple ofweeks ago.
Yep.
And I will say after seeing you today too thatit really is just a matter of time.
As you get more and more comfortable once againplaying in those competitive events, I think
(31:13):
it's just going to end up to where you start tosee those bogeys fade away and it becomes a lot
of birdies, my friend.
Ball out.
Yep.
You're gonna ball out, my friend.
And
Ball out.
We are certainly hoping that you
Yeah.
We're gonna, yeah, we're gonna keep playingwhatever it is.
You know, I got the U.S.
(31:34):
Open locals on Monday in Reno, and then alittle mini tour event.
No.
To answer Chad's question, I guess.
Try I got locals on Monday in Reno and then Igot Asher Tour event the following week.
So whatever the opportunity is, we're gonna goout and play and make the most of it.
So
So, guys, I do have a question for you aroundsomething that Kyle over at Kart Bar and Guys
(31:59):
mentioned, because he was playing in a U.S.
Open qualifier, and he was playing down at,gosh.
What course was that, Kyle, that you were downat?
Southern Dunes.
He ended up getting screwed over because theplayer that he was with, or the two guys that
he was with, one of them had a bad hole andended up making like an eight.
(32:20):
His day's over.
But then all of a sudden, they got put on theclock.
And I do think it is interesting that an entiregroup can be put on the clock where one player
is the one that, yeah,
you know, hurt the entire group.
And then from there,
yeah.
he's having to rush and feel rushed in thatprocess.
(32:42):
There's gotta be a better way to do it.
So my question to you guys, and I'll start withBrent on this one.
You know, what can be done to fix this?
And I I do oh, hang on one sec.
Because Kyle just didn't get screwed over, he'sjust tired of the USGA and their pace of play
BS.
I Yeah.
I get it.
(33:03):
And here's
the thing.
That.
It's mental.
Right?
But it does get to you when you are on theclock and when you feel like you are being
rushed a little bit.
Uh-huh.
It affects you.
Yeah.
A hundred percent.
I mean, just a quick, you know, sort of it'ssuch a massive topic, right?
But most recently we had William Mouw as arookie on the PGA Tour and at the Zurich, which
(33:26):
by the way is a team event, right?
So there's, you know, a bunch of stuff going onand you've got, you know, two different, you
know, formats that they're playing, but Williamliterally charges at a rules official and
cusses them out because he makes a pretty clearpoint that hey, you wouldn't time me if I was
Rory McIlroy or Scottie Scheffler and so on andso forth.
(33:48):
So, there's already a feeling when the rulesofficial comes up and is like, hey, you know,
pick it up or hey, you're on the clock, but asfar as the USGA is concerned, the way they do
it is it's a zero tolerance thing and the onlyway to really improve it is if the rules
officials were to get off their and be like, hey, we know that it's player X just so you
(34:11):
understand you guys are fine, but you know,we're gonna be focused on this player.
But the problem is nobody wants to be singledout, right?
Nobody wants to get their feelings hurt.
I agree.
I mean, it's bullshit.
But I
do wanna ask Buttsy.
Buttsy, what do you think the solution is?
You gotta be a gentleman about it.
Like, if I hit my ball into a bush and I needto take a drop and I'm not sure about the drop,
(34:35):
I don't take the drop before I consult withanother player.
And they come over and we agree about kindawhat the right ruling is.
And then if it's beyond that, I call in a rulesofficial.
I mean, I do think there needs to be a pace ofplay.
Like, you can't be out there taking nine hoursto play.
It should be generally, like, within a certaintime frame.
That has to be upheld.
(34:55):
But if you're coming up on a group and thegroup is slow, you need to take everybody and
say, hey, what happened here?
You know, what happened this hole because Iguarantee the guy didn't see that guy hitting
shots out in the stuff that caused everybody toget behind.
Yeah.
And you should be able to man up without beinguncomfortable towards that player when the guy
does come up.
And he should man up and say, hey, dude.
(35:17):
I had a ruffle back there.
I had a couple, like, weird shots.
I had a ruling that I had to take.
Whatever.
I'm the reason that we're a little behind.
Hold me accountable.
And if that guy doesn't do that, then the othertwo people in the group need to say screw you,
and you're the reason that you were slow.
And whether that causes angst in the group ornot, it's either that or you're upset that you
(35:38):
got put on the clock.
So, like,
I think,
it should be an etiquette thing.
I really do.
I agree with you.
I think it should be the person who screwed upor had a bad hole, took a lot of time, and then
I'll take it one step further.
I think the rule should be that that person isthe one that goes on a shot clock.
A 40, you know, per shot, and it's only themand everybody else can continue to play at
(36:05):
their pace without necessarily being penalized.
That, I think it should be singled out versusthe entire group.
Yeah.
The thing I'll add is that it's unique tocompetitive golf, right?
So to be in the mindset where, like, forexample, when you're the last group in a PGA
Tour event or Korn Ferry Tour event, it'slikely that you're going to get put on the
(36:28):
clock or warned almost every event just becausethe guys you're playing with are not going to
be very good.
But yeah, so to Kyle's point is another greatexample.
So, how hard they set up the golf coursestotally makes a difference with regards to what
their expectations are.
They don't know.
I mean, these are the same people that saidthat they need to roll the golf ball back,
period, end of story, and there's nothing thatcan be done about it.
(36:51):
So it's pretty clear the USGA doesn't know whatthey're doing, but I totally agree with you
guys.
It needs to be individuals.
They need to take into account the holes wherethere were blow-ups, and the PGA Tour and Korn
Ferry Tour generally do an okay job of that, but the USGA almost universally just says,
nope, you're on the clock, period.
Deal with it.
You're going to have to deal with what we'redoing, and it's just, you know,
(37:15):
I think four hours and 45 minutes is like a maxtime anywhere, and I think plenty.
Like, what are they at?
Are they trying to keep it at four or less?
I mean, I can understand that being a littleridiculous, but, like, just under five with
everybody out there grinding.
Southern Dunes is such a hard golf coursealready.
I know.
It's brutal.
No.
I know.
I mean, what do you expect?
It's blowing 35 out there.
(37:36):
Yeah.
You're gonna be looking for balls like you'regonna be 100%.
Yeah.
Got guys, you got guys that should probably notbe there to begin with.
And Kyle is a great player.
He's been around the block.
He knows what he's doing, but when you're notin it all the time.
Yeah, exactly.
Triple bogey max would be genius, but at theend of the day, man, we could sit here and talk
(37:58):
about pace of play issues and stuff.
Back
to somebody, you need to figure out whathappened before you, yes, put anybody on the
clock.
Yeah.
You need
to you drove up.
You know this group is behind.
You need to figure out what happened and thendo a little investigation into that and then
chill for a minute and see what's going on.
Just walked in.
But do some diligence.
(38:19):
That guy had that hole, and then so he didn'tfeel like it.
It sounds like this is my take on it or what Igot out of it.
He sped up on purpose to look like he wasn'tthe slow guy, and he probably wasn't a slow
player.
Like Kyle said, he had a bad hole, and it tookway too long for him to get through the hole.
Takes him a discussion.
By the way.
Yeah.
That's the discussion with the rules officialor official.
(38:42):
Yeah.
This guy had a tough hole back there.
Let us play this hole before you say anythingto us.
Yeah.
That's the way it should be.
And this idea that it's in some little box andthis is the only way it can be no matter what.
And I mean, you gotta remember these peopledon't play competitive golf.
They don't know what they're doing.
None of these USGA corporate douchebags are outthere and be like, okay, let's take this.
(39:06):
Oh, Brent.
Hey, I take this to the USGA.
I take the same stance that Phil and a lot ofthese other tour veterans that have been around
the block.
It's an organization run by a bunch of 15handicappers that don't really know what
they're doing.
Yeah.
Sorry.
Well, there you have it.
Might just lose it.
(39:27):
Just steal that guy's golf cart, drive rightthrough a fence, and don't stop, you know?
I mean.
Or take a I don't know.
Something.
But it only takes, it only takes one cart pathdrop.
Not even a stroke.
Not even necessarily a bad hole.
Right?
Like, doesn't even take that much for this guy.
Oh, we're a half a hole behind.
(39:47):
We're a hole behind.
Oh, well.
There's another question.
Can you get put on the clock if you have theshit?
So I have a player that I played with in theAmerican Express.
We were literally two and a half holes behindbecause he was having hemorrhoidal issues, and
we never saw a rules official.
Not one time.
Can you get put on the clock for uncontrollablehealth reasons?
(40:11):
In fact, actually, Jose de Jesus Rodriguez wasthe group in front of us this week, and he was
having health issues.
The guys literally came up to us and said, hey.
It's gonna be a little slow because of thisplayer.
So they're fine with that, but, you know, again, this is the USGA.
So hey.
There you go.
Alright.
Let's get moving into the next topic herebecause we can go on that one all night, I feel
(40:33):
like.
Yeah.
Byron Nelson recap, which is the CJ Cup.
And this one was, this is crazy to me.
Scottie Scheffler and what he just did.
You think Scottie Scheffler saw PhilMickelson's tweet that said he wasn't gonna win
again until the Ryder Cup?
(40:54):
Right.
No.
I'm saying absolutely percent.
Crazy what Scottie Scheffler went out there anddid.
31 under par.
The closest chaser was Erik van Rooyen at 23under.
I mean, this is stuff that we haven't seenreally since Tiger.
I hate to, like, throw that out there, but itis valid that we really haven't seen it since
(41:17):
him dominating in that kind of fashion.
It's just crazy.
The one thing that did stand out to me though, and it sucks when you shoot 31 under and
there's something to knock on you about.
I guess that's better than losing andsomebody's like, you suck at closing out a golf
tournament.
But Scottie Scheffler, dude, he had the chanceto break a PGA Tour record if he just parred
(41:41):
the last two holes.
And Brent saw it where he flubbed a chip.
And Scottie Scheffler, for whatever reason, under those types of pressures, like, when he
won the Masters the first time and hefour-putted on that last green.
Right?
It's like there's something about ScottieScheffler that's unsettling in, like, very
(42:06):
clutch situations that he doesn't always comethrough.
He doesn't really have that clutch gene, but wedon't see it that often because the mother
effer literally
just went
wins by yeah.
I mean, he
just gets so
far ahead.
Yeah.
18 at Augusta National on the 72nd hole andstill win the Masters.
There's there's so many sense.
(42:28):
How nice is it to know that you can bogey thelast three and still walk out of there with the
W?
Like, yeah.
Alright.
Like, it's genius, but yeah, it would be coolif you would finish in executive style.
Maybe make two more birdies.
Exactly.
I mean, he was hurdles.
He was murdering the golf course for the entireday.
I mean, it was insane what he was able to do.
(42:52):
So shout out to Scottie Scheffler, kinda in twodifferent ways.
One for dominating and two for not necessarilybeing the most clutch closer.
But I just noticed that in his game that evenwhen he is playing at such a phenomenal level
and he's like in the groove, so to speak, or inthe flow state that he breaks out of that
(43:14):
and throws it into first gear and just cruises.
You know, people are gonna eat you and fuckalive for bringing up anything bad about
Scottie last week too.
Yeah.
Of course.
Because people don't have the balls to, like, call it how it is.
Well, I've never had a problem with that.
No.
There's no problem.
I think that it's just a testament to, one, howfickle golf can be.
(43:37):
It's like just because, you know, if somebody'splaying well doesn't mean they're not all of a
sudden gonna have some ridiculous, you know, human thing that happens to them.
I mean, to flub a chip on those, I think it'slike Zoysia or something like that.
I mean, that's just Hydra might have done that.
No.
He wouldn't have.
Look at this.
So Tra golfer says, Scottie lost to the fieldby one shot if you took the field's best score
(44:02):
each day.
Except for Ben.
The first two days where he had the best scoreby
four.
Just lit it on fire.
Eighteen under for two rounds.
Are you kidding me?
Yeah.
I mean, granted, it's not a hard golf course tobegin with.
It's about 18 inches and it's pretty easy, butit's a testament to how good he is, and there
(44:27):
were shots that he absolutely pulled off thatprobably he and maybe two other people could
have pulled off.
But you know, my dad made a perfect pointtoday.
It's like it shows you the lack of, you know, not necessarily depth because obviously the PGA
Tour is deep and there are a lot of playersthat can win, but there is a gap.
There is a gap between the top players and thenext level.
(44:49):
And the fact that Scottie was, I think he wasthe highest-ranked player for sure.
He's number one, but, like, by a few points.
I think the next person was what?
Like Jordan Spieth or something like that wasthe next
Well, I just feel like Scottie, after thatinjury at the beginning of the year, struggled
to find his form initially in the first quarterof the year.
(45:10):
And then all of a sudden, he has slowly, fromthe players forward, has kinda started finding
his way.
And to see him do this at the Byron Nelson waspretty insane.
Now another guy that we need to keep an eye onwho is trending in the right direction, I don't
know if you guys have noticed this or not, butJordan Spieth.
(45:31):
Jordan Spieth is actually starting to get hisgame back to where he's not spraying the ball
everywhere right now.
And his iron game, the one thing that I didn'trealize when he was playing his absolute best,
was how good his iron game was.
Mhmm.
And right now, it is starting to get backthere, which is a pretty awesome thing to see
(45:53):
Jordan Spieth starting to get back into formand start being one of these guys that is a
Scottie Scheffler.
That is a Rory McIlroy.
That is a Xander Schauffele.
Like, that's the level that we would expectfrom a Jordan Spieth.
Right?
Absolutely.
I mean, the biggest thing when he wasdominating was that he couldn't find the face
on a driver obviously, but anytime he's yeah, Imean, he would hit these crazy iron shots and
(46:19):
get up and down from everywhere, but he findsform towards the end of the spring, end of the
summer pretty much every single year and it'sjust whether or not he can keep it going.
I don't know, though.
I'm gonna tell you right now because I'm a bigJordan Spieth fan.
I've got the Masters flag signed by Jordan.
The three years that I was there, we did thedeal with Jordan.
(46:39):
So I've always been a very big Jordan Spiethfan.
I have not seen him play at this level inyears.
It's been years since I have seen him hit ironshots like this.
Like, it's just different.
Yeah.
I Yeah.
When you run somebody hit a good iron shotversus Brent, when you're hitting iron shots,
(47:01):
there's that, you know, that sound, that prosound to the impact that you hit.
And literally, Jordan Spieth is doing thatright now.
He's he's fine in center center for sure.
Perfect.
Perfect.
As it as it was.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No.
I'm excited for him.
I mean, I think when he steps up and plays well
(47:22):
I don't see him excited for him.
I mean, it's just golf, man.
I think it's just one of those things where youknow, what's going to be the next thing that
happens?
Is there going to be a three-, four-, orfive-man that makes these tournaments
compelling?
And he kind of hovers around that fifth, sixthman every single year since, what, 2016?
(47:44):
So yeah, I mean, the hope is that he finds someform, that Max finds some form, that
Justin—obviously Justin Thomas—has found hisform, you know, playing great golf.
But we need that also.
A motivator for Jordan is seeing JT start toplay really well again and win a golf
tournament.
That's gotta eat Jordan Spieth a lot.
(48:05):
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
So that's a good motivator for him.
It's kinda like maybe out there watching thegrass league.
Very motivating.
Lit an absolute fire under my ass out there.
And I'm just like, man, I can play at thislevel for sure.
Competitor.
I mean, like, let's call it what it is.
I mean, competitors compete, and when theysee—you know, I mean, it's the same thing that
(48:29):
kinda got me back into it watching the playersand, you know, it's like, oh, like, I can do
that.
I can do that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So 100%.
I'm right there with you, bro.
I hear you.
And Erik van Rooyen, by the way, he finishedsecond at 23 under.
This poor guy was doing everything he possiblycould to just try to—it just—I was just—he was
(48:51):
trying so hard, and he was playing so well.
And what's awesome is that they asked him thisweek about getting into the Signature Series
event.
And he goes, you really want me to answer thatquestion?
Because they're like, do you like theseSignature Series events?
And he's like, do you really want me to answerthis?
And they're like, yeah.
And he goes, I hate them.
(49:11):
I absolutely hate them.
He goes, the best tournaments are the ones withthe deepest number of players playing in it
because any individual week, any of these guyscan win.
Everybody is that good.
The player
goes, as a competitor, I want to go up againstthe deepest fields.
And he
was talking about how the PGA Championship isone of those.
(49:35):
He also mentioned the Players Championship isanother.
But he wants to compete against everybody.
He doesn't want to just compete against the topguys.
And he said it's like, I get it.
People, fans want to see the ScottieSchefflers, the Rory McIlroys, and so forth.
But realistically, as a competitor, I want toplay against everybody.
(49:55):
I mean, the ratings are showing, though, andthen for Players was, you know, is a highly
watched event.
And J.J.
Spaun was, you know, came out of absolutenowhere and almost won the I
mean I know.
You know, was a shot away from getting it done, and that would've, you know, that would've
shown that, you know, somebody that has beenlike a Pat Perez, right, that, you know, kind
(50:17):
of just cruises along and plays great andconsistent but never breaks through.
And he was almost there.
And yeah.
Truck golfer brings up, by the way, how gooddoes Oakmont look?
Oh.
You're the seventh person oh.
That has literally brought up Oakmont.
And I'm gonna tell you, Mike Whan was right.
He goes, it could hold a U.S.
(50:38):
Open today.
Oh, yeah.
Absolutely.
That rough is so thick at this moment.
Dude, they hold the greens at 16 out there, like, for the members.
They have to slow it down for the U.S.
Open.
That's
how I imagine.
Like, the USGA comes in and says, no.
That's too fast.
Like, come on.
I mean, I can't wait.
I'm, I'm, I'm super pumped
(50:59):
to. I
I wanna watch the carnage.
The absolute carnage out there.
It's, it's gonna be.
I said this to my dad, and, and I said that 95%of that field is so screwed before they even
step to the first, first, first tee.
So I don't
Jessica used to say that.
Well, it's but it's true.
I mean, look at what Dustin Johnson did in2018.
(51:19):
Right?
But Oakmont's one of those tournaments whereyou sit there and you go, okay.
You have to be elite at the full tee to green.
And if you're not, you're done.
Like, it's, there is no
By the way, we've got two incredible weeks ofgolf coming up.
So we've got the Truist Championship.
It's a new sponsor, but it is the PhiladelphiaCricket Club, if I'm not mistaken.
(51:42):
And that place, by the way, I had buddies wholiterally were members out there.
They rave about this place.
They're like
I'll be there.
This is one of the best Northeast golf courses, that's out there out of Philly.
And, man, everybody's playing it because it's asignature series event the week prior to the
(52:03):
PGA Championship.
So here's the betting odds.
We've got Rory McIlroy at plus 400.
He's the favorite.
Collin Morikawa, who, by the way, snagged upour boy Joe Greiner.
What?
And yeah.
So Joe Greiner is now Collin Morikawa's caddie.
Woah.
Woah.
Woah.
Woah.
Woah.
Time out, bro.
Time out.
Time out.
(52:24):
So Justin Thomas and Joe Greiner separated?
So JT went back to his old caddie.
JT actually pulled one of the most loyal playermoves that I've seen in recent time.
So Joe is going in because that guy wasinjured, right?
Yeah.
Okay.
Alright.
That's fine.
Although I
don't JT went back to his caddie, which iskinda crazy because we're talking about some
(52:48):
stories today, and I can't share them rightnow.
But about caddies that have been screwed over, that revolving door, and they could have been
on a top 10 player's bag, but decided to stickwith their guy from the Korn Ferry Tour.
And then all of a sudden, as soon as thatplayer got to the PGA Tour goes bye bye.
Sayonara, motherfucker.
It is a cutthroat world out there for thecaddies.
(53:13):
So Joe Griner's gonna be on Collin Morikawa'sbag, Collin Morikawa at plus 1,400.
He is the second favorite for this week.
Obviously, a great iron player, and you gottabe able to hit irons really well out there.
Scottie's not playing.
You got yeah.
Well, that too.
Right?
So Xander Schauffele, Justin Thomas, and LudvigAberg is, plus 1,600.
(53:36):
Patrick Cantlay, plus 2,000.
Jordan Spieth and Viktor Hovland at plus 2,500.
Tommy Fleetwood plus 2,800, Corey Conners plus3,000, Russell Henley, Shane Lowry, Hideki
Matsuyama at plus 3,500, Daniel Berger at plus4,000, Keegan, Maverick McIntyre, Sungjae,
Wyndham, Sepp Straka, plus 4,500.
(53:58):
Min Woo Lee at plus 5,000.
Sam Burns, Davis Thompson, plus 5,500.
Keith Mitchell, Andrew Novak, Denny McCarthy,J.J.
Spaun, Ben An, Taylor Pendrith plus 6,000, SiWoo Kim, Aaron Rai plus 6,500.
Justin Rose, Michael Kim plus 7,000, AkshayBhatia, Brian Harman plus 7,500.
(54:20):
Before we talk about our picks for the week, doyou guys think it's smart that Scottie's taking
the week off?
Yep.
Yep.
Yeah.
Says no.
Yep.
Why do you say that, Brent?
So PGA is at Quail Hollow, right?
Yeah.
So, yeah, I mean, he's gotta do what he's gottado.
(54:42):
He's the best golfer in the world, but maybe,oh, I don't know.
Like the fact that they make such a big dealabout these tournaments and, you know, leading
into playing really good golf and having justwon at the Byron and going to Philly and
playing good there and then going into QuailHollow.
Quail Hollow is not a golf course where you cankind of just willy-nilly get out there.
(55:07):
Like, you've gotta sort of keep things going.
So, I mean, it's a no-cut event that they'replaying at probably, what, a top 15 golf course
on the planet.
It's a great golf course.
It's a really hard course.
You know, my former caddie has caddied severaltimes there.
He loves it.
You've obviously played there.
It's fantastic.
(55:28):
It looks just like Quail.
It's the same sort of grass.
It's a
great prep week.
But, you know, at the same time, there are alsopeople that say, hey, you know, maybe he had
some sort of engagement that he had to go tothis week and maybe chose
to pass on by.
You know what it is?
I think he's staying home, spending some timewith his family with
(55:48):
his.
That's that's what I'm saying.
newborn son and the wife, and that's just andthat's the drum that Scottie Scheffler goes to.
Right?
That's Yeah.
I like the point.
Yeah.
He's his own guy when he touches all thisstuff.
Yeah.
And, you know, it could be a good thing forhim.
I don't know.
I'm indifferent on it, but let's go over somepicks this week.
(56:11):
Let's start off with you, Buttsy.
I I like Keegan.
Keegan.
Love that.
Yeah.
I like Keegan.
What about you, Brent?
Justin Rose.
Justin Rose.
And I'm gonna go with a guy who I think I wannasee start playing really well heading into
(56:31):
Wyndham Clark.
Xander Schauffele.
Oh, yeah.
He might wake up.
He had an injury too recently, though.
Right?
Yeah.
So he had a rib injury during the TGL, whichkept him out a couple of weeks.
He's had a very slow start to this year, and Ijust haven't seen him play great yet.
But, obviously, if you are aware of whathappened at Quail Hollow last year, he was
(56:56):
battling with Rory McIlroy coming down thestretch and then on the back nine just faded.
Then, obviously, a few weeks later or a weeklater, he ends up going and winning the PGA
Championship the following week.
So I'm at a point where I'm like, okay.
He plays Quail Hollow really well.
If he can all of a sudden get his gametogether, like, hopefully, he's trending in the
(57:20):
right direction.
We haven't seen him playing bad per se, but hehasn't played elite yet to his level of play.
Injuries and, I mean, TGL obviously had animpact on a bunch of guys.
I mean, Rory was really the only guy that kindacame out of that.
Well, JT turned out okay.
Yeah.
Well, but I mean, he was turning in the rightdirection working really hard.
(57:42):
Cantlay hasn't—Cantlay has struggled.
Let's—let's—I mean, I really don't know where—Imean, Cantlay has been an ATM.
Don't get me wrong, and he's a great player.
He's competed very well, but he is not one, youknow, 15, 20, 25 times.
I mean, he's not—I don't even consider him inthe top five at all, like anywhere near it
really.
Yeah.
(58:03):
Van Rooyen could play well.
I mean, there are a couple of young guys that, you know, Philadelphia Cricket Club, it's not
a, you know, it's not a golf course that a lotof guys have played.
You know, I'm sure guys are beating their headsagainst the wall this week trying to figure it
out as quickly as possible.
But
Well, the other one that I will say tends toplay pretty well on these Northeast golf
(58:24):
courses is Jordan Spieth, and he's trending inthe right direction.
So that would kinda be my second backup pick tothat.
By the way, guys, I don't know if you realizethis or not, but I went back-to-back victories
and almost got the third with the team event.
Remember you guys were busting my balls aboutgoing with Nicolai and Rasmus Højgaard?
Uh-huh.
And they finished second in that team event.
(58:45):
So this will be my first week back to makingpicks.
I left off a couple of weeks because I was likeyou
did pick Rory.
Well, I will say, the J Rose call, I mean, hey.
That was a great call.
Hey, I posted that.
That went off. great.
great.
And, of course, I posted that, and peoplestarted jumping all over it, going, it's just
(59:09):
the first round.
I'm like, hey, man.
We gotta give our boy Brent Grant some creditwhen we got a chance.
He's also, I mean, Justin Rose is notorious.
It's not like he drops off out of nowhere.
I mean, the guy keeps it going through all fourrounds every year.
Now let's get into some LIV Golf action.
We've brought this segment back by populardemand, by the way.
(59:31):
So not only did anti-LIV start hitting me upgoing, are you guys gonna bring back the LIV
Golf segment?
Which I thought people didn't like, butapparently people love the LIV Golf segment.
Most of them just hate LIV Golf and just wannahear us shit on it or talk about it.
So we're bringing it back.
It is fully back.
(59:53):
LIV Golf Korea recap.
So Bryson DeChambeau ends up winning it atminus 19.
Oh.
Hard golf course there.
Yeah.
A fast start.
And his team, the Crushers, ended up winning aswell.
They got the sweep.
Now here's the interesting thing.
They bring up Formula One, how, you know, whenteam members are going head to head to try to
(01:00:18):
win a title, that's what happened here againstChuck E Three Sticks.
And Bryson ended up pulling out the victory, but he did get asked after his win about how
the team gets paid out.
And we've known that it's not up to the team todecide if the players get the money or not.
(01:00:42):
Yeah.
So everybody just assumed the $4,000,000 youget paid as a team, everybody gets a cut.
That's not the case.
Not the case.
No.
So the teams what
do they get
paid?
The teams decide what to do with that money.
Okay?
What they do with the money, at least for theCrushers, is that they pay everything
(01:01:07):
throughout the year.
And then at the end of the year, if they breakeven and they're profitable, each person will
get a bonus at the end of the year.
Okay.
But their travel and everything is paid for, sothey don't have
by the team.
Correct.
Yeah.
So they don't have expenses, which is fine.
Yep.
So that is a big difference between the two.
So we're not gonna say it sucks becauseobviously, the team's gonna have expenses and
(01:01:30):
stuff like that, but that is how the team isbuilding revenue outside of sponsorships.
The individual payoffs.
Does that because they can, can they get, sothere's another purse for that.
Right?
The individual is a completely separate purse.
Okay.
Yeah.
And, of course, they automatically make, whatis it, a hundred grand or whatever it is for
last place.
(01:01:51):
They get something.
That's for sure.
Now the other side to this as well that I justhave to call complete bullshit.
Bryson tried spinning the fact that LIV Golf isgreat for majors.
It helps him prepare, and it is such greatpreparation because of how difficult it is to
(01:02:16):
win on LIV Golf week in and week out.
I'm winning.
And I just I'm like, dude, there's some thingsthat you just can't, like, you just can't say.
Like, his PR team has to be better than that.
Oh gosh.
(01:02:36):
There is not enough time in the universe.
That's indefensible.
It's literally like you couldn't backpedal,forward pedal.
You couldn't do any number of gymnastics tofigure that one out.
Yeah.
There you go.
AJ's gonna win.
(01:02:56):
Just dude, I mean, like, let's be honest here.
We you guys picked, I think, like, two or threeplayers to be inside the top 10 for the
Masters, and I think Patrick Reed kinda cameout of nowhere and played fine.
And I think maybe there was Bryson obviouslyplayed well, but I mean, Bryson is the only
player that is playing good golf, like, forLIV, period.
(01:03:21):
Well, Joaquin Niemann had played really well onLIV.
Right?
He got his third win a week ago, before LIVKorea.
And, I mean, he's a guy that you're just like,Joaquin Niemann should be competing at the
Masters if he's playing that great on LIV Golf.
But let's face it.
(01:03:42):
Some guys get comfortable on certain circuits, and they start playing really well.
Mhmm.
Well, we also talked about how the Masters is,like, the polar opposite setup for Joaquin's
game.
So literally the opposite.
I actually think Joaquin's game is going to begood at Quail Hollow.
At Quail Hollow.
Yeah.
In a way.
(01:04:02):
I mean, the low bullet cut works pretty well.
But he hits a bullet draw too right now.
Is he hitting a draw now?
Yeah.
He can hit it, so he's got this draw that heabsolutely jumps on, and it's just a missile.
Hopefully, he can pull it out.
I mean, I think it's gonna be a battle betweenRory and the PGA Championship.
But
that's—hey, hey, hey.
(01:04:23):
That's the next segment.
Sorry.
Early PGA Championship coverage, but that's allI got for LIV Golf this week.
I do not, and, you know, Anti LIV was askinghow many viewers did LIV Korea have.
I will say not this past week, but the weekprior, they were on FS1, and I think they only
(01:04:44):
did like 32,000.
Guys, we do 30,000 listeners weekly on thepodcast platforms.
That's wild to me.
Is that app viewers too?
I know.
It can't, no.
I mean, that's
where it's only at Festival.
(01:05:05):
Consuming live golf.
That's where you should be because it's thebest, like, through the app.
So, well, the problem is it's $60 you gotta payannually now.
What?
Yeah.
That's one of the reasons why
I just watched
it now.
Unless there was, like, a free trial
or something.
So you can watch the replay the day after
Okay.
(01:05:25):
for free.
So they changed.
We
can't be having Bryson say that it'sunbelievable prep for me.
It's so bad.
It's so bad, dude.
Like, and Anti-Liv might be onto something herewith their Liv talking points that they're
(01:05:45):
forcing him to say.
We don't know.
Yeah.
Like, does the sheikh call them?
Like, I loved what you said today, Bryson.
I mean, let's let's let's I mean, again, Brysonhas pretty much completely kowtowed to the
organization.
I mean, he fought them very briefly about hisYouTube channel on the media rights and then
that all got, you know, shooed away andapparently, they own a piece or most of his
(01:06:10):
YouTube channel now.
You know what is wild about that YouTubechannel?
Has he posted a break 50 episode in a while?
No.
No.
I think he stopped doing that.
I wonder if he's gonna continue because I wastold by my LIV source that they did have a
(01:06:31):
meeting at the beginning of the year.
Part of that was around the rights for hisYouTube channel, which Liv felt like they owned
per the contract.
And sure enough, like
They do.
they well, but they said that they reached anagreement around the YouTube channel
percentage.
We'll see.
We I mean, the they're they're I mean, his hisaudience.
(01:06:55):
Austin Whittington just dropped in.
Yes, they did a Dude Perfect break 50.
Oh, okay.
Okay.
There we go.
Alright.
Well, that's good.
I mean, that's gonna be completely
Hello, Brian Shane.
Brian Shane.
There he is.
Hello, Brian Shane.
But yeah, I mean, that's just gonna be gimmickyanyways.
(01:07:15):
I mean, how many sweet marks are they gonnahave on those?
You would do it.
You would do it.
And we would shoot 45.
You would do it.
We would shoot 45.
He would
play with him.
A %.
With him if he called me.
Absolutely.
I'm just saying.
It's I'm just telling you.
It's a heartbeat.
Like, it's guys, should the three of us go outand try to do a break 50 from the red tees at
(01:07:38):
some course out here?
As a scramble?
Do that?
Yeah.
It's pretty easy to do.
I don't
know if anybody would watch it, but we could doit.
We could
do feel like we should do it.
I feel that that should be, like, one of ourfirst videos that we do when we finally have
All you need to do is film the first tee shot, the 18th approach shot, and then the 18th putt
and just say, oh, yeah.
We broke it.
(01:07:59):
Dang.
The viewership for Sunday for LIV was 48,000.
That's so many people.
That's so incredible.
Not good.
Let's get to our early PGA Championship previewbecause, guys, I don't know if you have
realized this or not.
We're in a fucking awesome place with some ofthe best golfers in the world playing their
(01:08:23):
best golf.
So Bryson wins on LIV.
Scottie dominates on the PGA Tour.
Then you got Rory who just won the Masters.
You've got JT that just won at Harbour Town.
Like, guys,
You got, like, real,
great fucking players right now.
Historical, like, rivalry shit.
(01:08:44):
Heading to Quail Hollow to where Rory plays itgreat.
We imagine that Bryson's gonna play it well.
Right?
No?
You don't think so?
Don't.
No.
He hasn't.
No.
Xander plays it great.
Xander.
I, I like Xander.
And JT plays it good.
(01:09:06):
Yes.
JT has won his PGA Championship there.
Scottie, I, I, I didn't look at the numbers onScottie playing well there.
I didn't think that that course fits him withhis fade.
But,
It, it fits it.
It's, it's a fade.
I mean, I, I love that golf course.
I was, I, I enjoyed my,
But doesn't it fit a draw better, though?
(01:09:27):
It's, it is, it, it sort of does, but it'sreally the, the best sort of shot shape out
there is kind of like that kind of holdingfade, not like a starting left and then going
right kind of thing.
It's like kind of like a falling which is whyRory,
Scott hits that scoring.
Yeah, Scottie does.
It's Scottie too, but he doesn't have thelength that, that, that Rory does and that's
(01:09:49):
why Rory's going to go out there.
It's, it's likely that that,
it might be a Rory thing.
It could be.
I mean, I hope not.
I hope it's a three- or four-man absoluteraging Sunday afternoon, because I know the
Tour needs it.
I mean, they're still well, then,
we got Jordan Spieth, who's potentially thenext to get the Grand Slam.
(01:10:11):
I mean, if you win, Andrew Novak could come outthere.
I mean, Akshay Bhatia plays that place very
McIntyre?
Yeah.
I mean, who knows?
Joaquin Niemann could show up and just get outof it.
He can walk it.
He That
would shut up a lot of people for Joaquin.
If Joaquin came out,
Jon Rahm.
dominant performance.
(01:10:33):
I don't see it for Jon.
And
No.
I mean, I don't either, but I'm just saying it.
I'm one degree of separation from Jon Rahm, andI will say that everything that I hear about
him lately is just that it's not great.
No.
It can't be.
I mean, he was I think it was two months afterhe left.
We were talking about it, and, obviously, helives out here in Scottsdale and, you know,
(01:10:57):
it's that idea that you hear things but they'relike almost unanimously it was just like, yeah,
from everybody pretty close to me.
He's like, I wish I did.
That's I wish I could take money.
Like, yeah.
And it shows.
Right?
I mean, he plays the Masters and just shitsdown his leg.
I mean, there's just no reason why a guy thatwon five times a year prior just all of a
(01:11:18):
sudden forgets how to play golf.
He's out of form.
Yeah.
He's completely out of form, but it's mental.
Right?
It's like all mental.
All that.
When you're in a positive mindset and you havea positive vibe going about you and you're
playing well and you're in form, the game comeseasy.
Yes.
When one of those things is out of whack, thegame is really fucking difficult.
(01:11:39):
Yeah.
Yeah.
And not to mention the fact that, I mean, hegot paid, what was it, 405 hundred million
dollars.
You know, what's the over-under on MichaelGreller hitting the apple bottle after Jordan
goes batshit crazy with the first six holes?
It's hard to go batshit crazy on that golfcourse.
Wells Fargo is okay.
Guess it's not Wells Fargo.
Hollow.
(01:11:59):
Yeah.
It's just, I mean, it's just a man's course.
So but, yeah.
I mean, it's unfortunate because John's a supernice guy.
He's obviously a generational talent.
You know who else is one out there who just gotin is Rickie Fowler.
Oh.
Sponsor's invite.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He could do it.
Yeah.
(01:12:20):
How far
Or he's in the PGA because of, I think, hisworld ranking.
Right?
Something like that.
Yeah.
But whatever.
Trot, did you see the FOX 10 News segment onthe vigilante golf pro from Sun City?
I'm assuming that's you, Trot, which by theway, Trot, I have nominated you as the pro
(01:12:41):
who's gonna help me get my swing back in shape.
So, congratulations.
Good move.
Work, buddy.
I'll be seeing you soon.
I don't know if that's what he wants, but I'mjust gonna show up.
Got the club for it.
And Trot, I'm not
a choice.
We're gonna get after it.
(01:13:01):
I love that answer from you.
I love that answer from you.
We're gonna get after it, man.
We're gonna turn this into a mission that we'regonna be on.
But guys, that is our early PGA Championshippreview.
Oh, man.
I can't wait to get into that.
Are you guys excited for this week, though?
I'm excited just because of the golf course.
(01:13:23):
What about you guys?
Same here.
I just wanna watch.
Yeah.
I wanna see.
Yeah.
I mean, obviously, nobody knows what Truist is,so they're not gonna tune in because, you know,
it's some bright and shiny thing.
They're gonna tune in because it's at aworld-class golf course.
And, unfortunately, Scottie's not gonna bethere, so that's a huge hit that they're gonna
take.
But well, think of it this way.
(01:13:46):
A %.
But imagine, like, so let's say somebody winsand they're like, well, Scottie wasn't there.
Someone else Scottie wasn't there.
Yeah.
It's like, oh, well, Tiger wasn't there.
We will see it at Quail Hollow the followingweek.
I just hope either Xander or Jordan winsbecause that's gonna be one hell of a talking
(01:14:06):
point heading into the PGA Championship.
That'll be a lot of fun to talk about.
All out.
Alright, guys.
It is time for Woah.
(01:14:34):
