different that people are fired up to be hereand, you know, it's not even the tournament
hasn't even started yet.
The golfers out there hanging by the bar andeverything.
I'm I'm fired up.
So it is packed.

(01:38):
It is.
So this is pretty sweet that we are here withTodd Dobson over at the Grass League, but we're
also gonna talk about what is to come as wellin the 2025 year for the Grass League.
And we're gonna talk about Buttsy tomorrow.
He keeps tapping his feet over there.
He's got the jitters.
I mean, 4:30, 4 tee time.
I mean, there's gonna be a huge gallery.
I'll be out there following himself.

(01:59):
I will definitely be out there as well justmaking sure that the man has his support.
We are gonna be pulling for you.
Gonna send all the good vibes possible, my man.
But before we do begin, we do wanna give ashoutout to our sponsors, Devereux Golf.

Let's talk a little bit real quick before wedive into the tee off report with Buttsy

(02:43):
because we got a special tee off report withButtsy.
This is the Grastic edition.
But I just wanna go over really quick theschedule of events, okay, that we have here at

(03:24):
You got two waves there.
After party is gonna be headlined by BryceVine, you know.
She's the next Drew Barry.
So we're gonna be heading out there 8 p.m.
to 11:30 for Bryce Vine.
That's that's kind
of a
it's kind of a big deal.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Big deal and a big window.
So come on out.
And then Saturday, May 3 is the final round.

(03:45):
This starts at 10 a.m., goes till 9 p.m.
Peacock is gonna be featuring this final roundstarting at 6 p.m.
Pacific time.
After party headliner for Saturday is QuinnXCII or 22.
I don't know.
I I
Is it II2?
II something?

(04:06):
So very yeah.
I don't know who that my Roman numerals here.
So I'm very excited about that as well.
But that is your schedule of events for theGrass League this week.
And again, like I said, it is taking over thisPhoenix area.
It is absolutely awesome.

(04:26):
Now, let's get into the tee off report withButtsy, the Grass League edition.
Oh, boy.
So Buttsy, you're gonna be participatingtomorrow.
You are going to try to earn a spot
Yep.
on a team tomorrow.
So we gotta talk about pre-round routines.
We were talking about it a little bit last weekas to what is your go-to pre-round drink.

(04:46):
But now I wanna know what's your tournamentpre-round routine.
So what's your pre-round plan for the qualifiertomorrow?
I thought about this.
Not really.
I'm gonna treat it like a normal weekend roundof golf.
I'm not gonna do anything different.
I'm not gonna get too excited.
I'm gonna get here probably four to six hoursearly and start drinking.

(05:08):
And, hopefully, by the time we get to the box,I'll be nice and lubricated and having a great,
great time.
Love that.
That's the plan.
Really?
Lubrication.
What about a good and so I've always beensomebody that, you know, people around me that
know me well are like, yeah, man.
He takes a couple dumps per day.
So is there like a pre-round dump that takesplace?

(05:28):
Know that about you?
Oh, yeah.
People know.
Yeah.
It's well known.
No.
I'll be I'll be fully cleansed by the time Iget here.
I don't want anything to disrupt these. Theygot
They got
They got some great bathrooms, though.
They actually do.
They're very private, heavy doors.
You don't get messed with.
The acoustics in there, any type of fart noisesthat you produce are amplified.

(05:48):
It just makes it a little bit more fun.
So very nice bathrooms.
Love that.
Okay.
So right.
Ourselves was on that.
So
Hey.
You gotta have the venue ready, yes, for thepregame dumps.
You wanna talk about the venue?
We got a guy sitting behind us right now.
The the I don't even know the title anyway.
Director of Agronomy, the head greenskeeper?

(06:09):
Yes.
Scotty.
So if we wanna talk greens and, you know, reedsand all that, he's he's he's I'm gonna tell you
right now.
Grass man.
I am absolutely miffed by how much traffic youguys get and how good the greens are here.
They really are.
So an absolute magician.
Shout out to you.
I wish I could answer that question, but
that's unreal.

(06:29):
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
And he's got his two dogs here too.
So he they actually might be the brains of thethe operation right here.
Here's Trev right here.
Dude, she was born in the maintenance shed.
Right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Things more different around here.
Yeah.
When we talk about the fact that grassclippings has a vibe, this is what we're
talking about, folks.
There is nothing like it that I have everexperienced in the game of golf throughout the

(06:53):
country.
It is an absolute vibe out here.
There's a draw.
Yeah.
For
sure.
Yep.
There's nothing like it until you get here anddo it.
There are other lit courses, but this rivalsall of them.
It definitely does.
So, Todd, let's get into it, man.
Let's talk a bit about where it all began forGrass Clippings.
Where did this idea turn into where you wentfrom a regular golf course here at Rolling

(07:14):
Hills, and all of a sudden you guys came in andyou're like, hey.
Let's light this place up and let's turn itinto a par-3 course at night.
I mean, I wish it was that easy and just, youknow, hey, guys.
Roll out of bed.
Let's go talk to the city of Tempe.
It started well before that.
In February 2018 when we started GrassClippings, there are four of us founders, Todd
Dobson, Connor Reilly, Jake Hosselton, JimmyHosselton.

(07:37):
And Jimmy at the time was playing pro golf onmini tours around here, and there's just, you
know, something stuck out to us.
This doesn't make sense.
What we're gonna play on, you know, at the timewas the Pepsi Tour, then he's gonna go fly to
Canada, try to get there, try to fly to LatinAmerica to try to get on tour there.
He spent an X, and it's gonna yield Y.
And it's like, what are we doing?

(07:58):
And there's no team aspect to it.
You're by yourself flying around the country.
You know, I'm caddying for him.
Connor's caddying for him, or his brotherJake's caddying for him.
And I'm like, we're all just like, what?
There's something structurally wrong with golfif you'll actually break it down.
It's like, I mean, growing up, I always playedteam sports plus golf.
Sure.
But it's just why did golf go, like, go thisdirection?

(08:21):
And how did how couldn't they figure it outfrom that perspective of,
Mhmm.
You know, imagine if you two were flying downto Latin America to play in the, you know, the
Guadalajara Open or whatnot.
And that's
a
Little bit different.
If you guys are doing a two-man scramble, youguys are riding together.
You know what I mean?
Opposed or if it's just Matt Cook going downthere, he might take the next flight home
because he's like, I'm a little scared aboutthis tournament.

(08:42):
There's just a different vibe about team golf.
But that was really where it sparked.
And, you know, we'd stayed on the first tee boxand look across to the guy playing with Jimmy,
and the guy's wearing a Ping hat or aTaylorMade hat.
And I'm telling you right now, I'm like, noone's paying you to wear that hat.
No.
Why are we wearing
this hat?
Like, nothing against those companies, butthey, like, make clubs.
There's nothing cool or there's no story behindit.

(09:04):
And back to the fact that it's such a singularsport, when you put a hat on, it should mean
something, and you're playing for something.
And we always say play for the shop.
That's our old shop down in Arcadia.
Now it's this, but it was like, you have aplace to go win a trophy and put it somewhere,
opposed to just, you know, over your mantle athome in your bed.
And so we're thinking about this.
We're like, there's something missing here.

(09:26):
And
So hang on.
Let me interject for a second.
Did you guys start with the concept that youwanted to create this team event and that led
into Grass Clippings?
Okay.
No.
So Grass Clippings came first.
It started, but it kinda startedsimultaneously.
So, you know, Jimmy and Jake had always hungaround greenskeepers up in different courses
that they were playing frequently.

(09:46):
And, you know, I'm forgetting his name up atForest Highlands.
And then myself, you know, I was in Minnesotagrowing up.
I would hang around Alexandria Golf Club withDonica, and he's from Scotland.
And, you know, come full circle.
Now we got Scotty.
But, like, what you find out is when you hangout with greenskeepers is like, hey.
If they don't show up to work and they don't doa good job, we're not playing golf today.
And you're not gonna have a good time.

(10:08):
And they're typically cast out, like, into thedeep parts of the property.
It's like, hey.
Yeah.
Don't even look at the patrons.
Don't even talk to them.
Don't even look at them.
It's like you're like, what?
And we always found ourselves being like, no.
If I'm gonna get a beer, I wanna get Scotty.
I wanna go out to the shed and get a beer withScotty.
And it's like, they're like the salt of theearth, yet they are never put into the

(10:28):
spotlight.
And if they don't show up to work, nothing getsdone.
So we created Grass Flippings as a clothingbrand to give recognition to guys like Scotty
and greenskeepers around the world.
But then, shit.
That's where Grass Flippings came from.
Yeah.
That's like the blade of grass getting you
know what's funny?
Because when I moved down to Arcadia and I saw
Yeah.
The Grass Clippings location, the OG in thelittle strip mall across the street from, like,

(10:54):
a very trendy restaurant.
If you guys aren't used to or familiar with theArcadia Phoenix area
Yeah.
You've got La Grande Orange, which is like ahigh-end market where they've got breakfast and
all this great stuff.
You got Postino's there.
You got all these great little spots, right?
And across the street, yeah.
You've got this little strip mall.
And sure enough, there was this GrassClippings, and I'm like, what the hell is this

(11:15):
thing?
Yeah.
And sure, imagine what people would come intothe shop asking, you know, you guys are what
are you guys selling here?
You got weed whackers back there?
Like, you got some marijuana?
What do we got?
Like, actually, it's a clothing brand forgreenskeepers.
Like, okay.
I had no idea that Grass Clippings was aclothing brand, and that's how it got started.
And so but we did that in tandem.
So it was like it was always driven fromcompetition.

(11:38):
And if you think about the landscape of, like, golf tournaments in Arizona, it's the Phoenix
Open and then nothing against any othertournament, but the type of tournament where
it, like, moves somebody.
And, you know, like, going to play in certainevents, you're like, okay.
If I shoot 89, like, I don't really care.
But if, like, there's certain events you'relike, if I shoot in the 80s, like, I might give
up the game.

(11:58):
Like, my reputation's on the line.
And, you know, Jake and Jimmy and Connor had,you know, different tournaments they played
around here, shared the same belief, and Jimmywas trying to play pro at the time.
We found ourselves up in Minnesota at theResorters in Western Minnesota.
And for the first time, Jake and Jimmy came andthey're like, and Connor, and they're like,

(12:19):
what is going on here?
This feels like high school football in Texas.
Like, I wanna run through a
wall.
Yeah.
The town shuts down.
It's 13,000 people.
Tom Lehman was from there, won it when he was16.
We have him on, you know, we have him on camerasaying, winning the Resorters at it's actually
18.
Winning the Resorters at 18 was as important tome as winning the British Open at 36.

(12:39):
There you go.
And you're like, that's pretty damn special.
And so when you think about it, we're like, whyis there such a void here in Arizona for
tournaments like that, like, inspire people?
That I wanna be better because of that.
And qual goes back to the qualifiers.
You gotta qualify into it.
Yeah.
In more years than not, I'd miss the qualifier,go home, cry in my bed as a grown man.
Yeah.
But it made me respect the tournament and lovethe tournament and wanna get better.

(13:03):
Getting in is like, hell yes.
Yeah.
So when we launched the clothing brand, we'relike, we gotta do it simultaneously with a golf
tournament, and we thought long and hard.
How do we engage everybody that they feel likethey can win?
You're not getting screwed over on the firsttee box by giving the guy seven strokes.
You're like, okay.
What I can give you a calculator to figure outwho's winning.
Yeah.
Two-man scramble on a par-3 course.
Anybody can win that.

(13:24):
Everybody's Buttsy, you and I could be Jon Rahmand Phil Mickelson tomorrow, and I believe we
would.
Any given subject.
Love that.
Yeah.
And regardless, it's like, just don't ask forstrokes.
Show up.
Get better.
And it's like and that's the whole philosophybehind it.
So we did it on our par-3 course at MountainShadows, and year over year, it got bigger and
bigger.
Fans started coming out.
And when we first started the tournament, we'relike, that's gonna be on TV at some point.

(13:46):
There's gonna be grandstands, and there's gonnabe lights.
It might happen in 50 years or might happentomorrow.
We don't know, but we're gonna stay with thatas our North Star.
Wow.
After three years, we realized that MountainShadows wasn't gonna be able to, you know, host
the events we wanted to do with looking for aproperty.
And here we are at the 2025 Grass ClippingsOpen on NBC Peacock.

(14:08):
So
Unreal.
Something about it being under the lights too.
Like, you almost feel like you're at a baseballgame.
Well, the first time I played out here, that'skinda what it felt like.
There's an ambiance to being under the lightsand
yeah.
It's it's sick.
But to that point, like, if you thinkhistorically about sports, like, you know, when
the Cubs finally made the transition to lightedbaseball for them, but like back in the '30s

(14:30):
when the Reds finally turned the lights on,saved the franchise.
Yeah.
They had 2,000 people showing up for everygame.
They turned the lights on.
Boom.
And they were about to go bankrupt, and itsaved it.
So there's something to, like, when the lightscome on, the stage gets bigger.
And if you think about, like, Staples Center orCrypto.com, like, you show time.
Exactly.
There's something about the lights coming onthat just fires people up.

(14:52):
And, you know, tell you one thing, it fires meup.
So uh-oh.
Elon Musk has a problem here.
Okay.
Here we go.
Elon Musk.
Elon
Musk.
We're good.
We're good.
We're good.
Oh, man.
Now one of the things that I just absolutelyhave been blown away by, because I haven't
really seen anything like this, especially inthis area, is just how did you build a

(15:18):
community so quickly around what you were doinghere?
It just it seemed like there was a vibe hereand a culture really from day one.
Mhmm.
That's a good question.
I'd say it's like, you know, it started at ourshop and everything, and there was just a way
we do things.
And, you know, Jake's our CEO, and he deservesa lot of props.

(15:41):
There's certain decisions he made, and in themoment, you're like, why are we doing this?
And then, like, a year goes by, you're like,oh, okay.
There we go.
But if you come down here and you meet theemployees that work here, like, I consider all
these people family.
And it's like, dude, we don't have to act likeother golf courses or other things.
We can just be ourselves.
We're here to make your lives better, like, empower you.

(16:02):
Thank you for working here.
Let's, like, let's do this together.
Let's have a great time doing it.
We don't have to be uptight and this and that, but, you know, show up, you do what you're
supposed to do.
Like, this could be awesome.
And just that mentality, stay grassy.
If you can make it, we'd love to have you.
Well, that was the motto.
Right?
That was kinda was that an unofficial motto, orwas that, like, the official motto?

(16:24):
Well, I mean, there's not I mean so at ourfirst tournament, someone kept yelling across
the, like, the course.
It was like, stay grassy.
Or, like, and it happened, like, organicallywhere, like, Jake was like, dude, I've heard
stay grassy, like, 17 times, and I'm kindaliking it.
And those are the type of things that stickaround is when they happen organically.
So we ran with it.
And

(16:45):
I mean, I see it all over the place.
Yeah.
You know?
I'd be in a grocery store, and all of a sudden,I see a dude with a Stay Grassi hat on.
It's pretty cool.
It's a vibe.
It is.
It's a vibe.
It's a vibe.
It's a movement.
Mhmm.
It really is.
I like the way you said that it's a movementbecause you guys are doing some other events

(17:05):
and stuff now too, which is really cool to seethat it's not just all about golf now.
It literally you do a farmer's market, you doyoga like, the yoga classes.
There were like a hundred-plus women out theredoing yoga.
Yeah.
In the grass.
There's a yoga class?
Yeah.
That's another one of our sayings is thatanywhere there's grass.

(17:27):
And so if you think about, like, a metropolislike Phoenix, you know what I mean?
It's really tough to find grass.
Yeah.
And I got three kids, and if my wife and I tryto go out with our kids to go to dinner, I
mean, five minutes into it, you're lookingaround, you're like, dude, this guy's gonna
throw his fork at me or stab me or something.
Like, I get it.
I didn't have to live with this stuff.
Are you kidding me?
And it's like, the kids just wanna be outsidearound grass and so do I.

(17:49):
And so, like, that's why Luz does so well.
But when you think about it, like, most parksaround here, it's like, okay.
This is kinda dicey.
You wanna go there.
So you just anywhere there's grass.
So a little plot of grass, and then they'redoing yoga classes.
We're doing, you know, Brody Jenner's playinghere in two weeks.
I'm like, what the heck is he doing here forsome of that?

(18:10):
Like, you just put a little grass out there, anything can happen.
Man, how about it?
I mean, there's lore in legend, and it'salready got that.
It really does.
I love those words.
It does.
It's crazy.
I mean, shoot, I haven't been to the farmer'smarket yet, but I'm always down for a good
farmer's market.
So
I feel like I'm walking into a party every timeI walk up the steps here.

(18:32):
And whether or not that was the intention, it'sgot that, like, let's go.
You know?
Yeah.
We've been out here for the Wednesday nightskins games.
Yeah.
And it's just like, you come, and it is a vibe.
You got all the golfers around the bar outthere.
Now you guys have Santa Rosa out there.
You got the restaurant now.
Glen
Rosa.
Glen Rosa.
Santa Rosa.
Like that name, but Glen Rosa.
And that is part of the whole story too is thatwe were all I mean, we still live on the same

(18:56):
street now.
But we were all living in Jimmy's house on GlenRosa.
Mhmm.
And the four of us peeled out of the house
Yeah.
To get married and have kids and all thatstuff.
And Connor was the first one to leave.
He literally walked across the street andbought the house.
So it's like, okay.
He's not going far.
And I was like, alright.
I'm I'm the next one to go.
So I went a street over behind Jimmy's
house shit.
And bought the house.
And then Jake was the last one to leave, and hewent a street the other way.

(19:21):
So it's like, we're I think I'm a pitchingwedge.
Maybe probably it's a flighted 50 to Jake'shouse.
I'm probably test that.
A 54.
I know.
You know, it could cause some problems.
There's a lot of kids in the area, but I Ithink we should.
Oh, man.
Oh my goodness.
Well, now you start to understand why there isthat vibe, that culture because you guys are so

(19:42):
close.
And the four of you starting this living allthroughout the same block, got Glenrosa.
You're bringing the name in.
Now it's oh, Jesus.
It's on.
It's the bar.
Yep.
And what's the restaurant called?
Is that
Rosa Bar and Glenrosa Restaurant.
Yeah.
Thumb is where the heart is.
Love that.
So let's move into from there, you guys alsodid a little bit with GoodGood, which kinda

(20:09):
from a, you know, YouTube creator standpoint, kinda put you guys on the map in February 2024.
Yeah.
How did that relationship come about?
Actually, Chris Strauss from Troon called usand was like, hey.
I'd love you guys to meet the the CEO ofGoodGood, Matt Kendrick, and he's gonna be on
property.
It was actually the night we were turning thelights on.

(20:30):
Okay.
And so we had all these news people here, andMatt's out there.
And, you know, I didn't know much about allthat.
None of us really did.
And met Matt, like, the loved the guy.
We were very close with him now and, you know, and just he he started talking.
He's like, you know, during Phoenix Open, we'dlove to do an event here.
Yeah.
And if you know any of us, when someone says Iwanna do something, is that would that be cool?

(20:53):
99.9% of the time, we're gonna say, let's go.
How do we make it even bigger and better?
Yeah.
What do you need from us?
Like, that's all we're about is growing thegame per se.
But so yeah.
So he so we had that initial conversation, which was, like, two months prior to the
Phoenix Open.
K.
He was in town.
And his you could see his mind just going.

(21:15):
He's like, let me get back to you.
And by the time, you know, a week went by, he'slike, okay.
I got I got Golf Channel.
I got NBC Peacock at the time.
I got NBC Peacock that's coming.
We got all, you know, there were, like, 60players.
I played with Dave Roberts.
Jimmy played with Ryan Sheckler.
I'm like, well, that escalated really quickly.
And that's just, again, a testament to GoodGood's power, and what they've built is

(21:40):
mind-boggling.
It's wild.
But they've obviously now bought in the DallasHorsemen team in our league.
They're taking it seriously.
And, I mean, when you think about a team owner, they're the, you know, that's typically what
we're looking for.
You know?
People that have the resources and love thegame or are in the game and wanna win.

(22:02):
It's all about competition.
And you're wearing a hat right now.
Which hat is that?
Which team?
Forgot it.
The Michigan Auto Racers.
I forgot this was on my desk.
So
Good looking hat.
Yeah.
It is a good looking hat.
You know what I find interesting is he'swearing a Phoenix United hat, and yeah.
He doesn't control his destiny now.
Yeah.
He could get through the qualifier, and hecould be wearing a Bluebirds hat.
I just like the logo.
I like it.
Number two.

(22:22):
First
round number two.
Oh.
That's my bridge.
Yeah.
Wouldn't that be a twist?
Yep.
I mean, so let's talk about franchiseownership.
I mean, this is something LIV Golf hasn't evenbeen able to do yet with getting owners of
actual teams.
What was so attractive, in your opinion, to theowners?

(22:42):
I mean, at the time, like, the last five years, sports investment has been, like, going
through, like, a renaissance.
Everybody wants to buy an NBA team, an NFLteam, and then the upstart leagues.
They just don't wanna buy a LIV Golf team.
Well, who knows if they're for sale?
You know?
But they've, you know, big three and, you know, all these upstart leagues, volleyball leagues

(23:04):
and everything, and they're doing realpickleball leagues.
And when you start looking at all these upstartleagues and then you say, wait.
You're gonna make a league in arguably the mostparticipated sport.
Yeah.
That's, like, just everywhere?
It's golf?
Okay.
Is it a good concept?
It's like, you hear our pitch, you're like, well, okay.
Well, how much?
It's like so I think there's a lot of thingsthat intrigue.

(23:26):
It was the lights.
It was a par three.
The the ability to track I gotta back up.
To the good good thing a little bit because I Idon't know what the team like, how many teams
were purchased or what the franchise situationwas before that.
But for me personally, when I saw that go offand there was a TV tower out here and yeah.
Everybody was just like, what the
fuck?

(23:46):
What is that?
Like, what is that?
Oh my god.
So did
did that help a little bit?
I we had already sold teams.
Okay.
Prior to that, but it did certainly didn'thurt.
It hurt.
Yeah.
I I remember, like, the full circle moment for,you know, me for sure and my other partners is
I have a picture on my Instagram.
It's like the eighteenth hole with a TV towerand a light.
That's what I'm saying.

(24:06):
And then there's, like, some chairs.
And so, again, it went back to it's gonna beunder the lights.
There's gonna be grandstands, and it's gonna beon TV.
And so it was like, whoa.
Yeah.
And that was, like, kind of the pinch-me momentwhere, like, we've done it's such a very simple
picture, but it's like, okay.
If you build it, they will come.
There's bigger things that come than this.
And so now we have, you know, a small stadiumon 18.

(24:28):
So, so it's pretty dope.
I mean, when I showed up tonight, I just stoodout there for a good 10 minutes just kinda
staring around, feeling kind of the vibe ofeverything.
I'm like, wow.
This feels big.
Like, this does not feel like some smalltournament that got put together.
This feels like you're at a PGA Tour event.

(24:51):
Was just gonna say driving down the street, like, right down there, you can see all the
tents when you're driving up and you're pullingup to a tour event.
It's like or that vibe.
That's that's I mean, we're all aboutcompetition.
And if you if you put you know, I always say ifone guy watches you on the tee box, a guy
you're on the first tee box, and then one guywalks up, you're like, yep.
K.
Why is this guy watching me?

(25:11):
Okay.
I'm a little nervous.
Then three guys walk, you're like, oh my gosh.
Then you put a crowd.
That's what we're all looking for.
We're all if if you if you agree with me ornot, you are.
You're looking for to get your blood pumping.
And so we wanna do everything we can to amplifycompetition and just get the blood pumping
because that's I mean, at the end of the day, what else are we doing?

(25:32):
Yeah.
It's a really good point.
And those franchises, by the way, they've gotsome big names associated with them.
So some notables, Dave Roberts, manager of theL.A.
Dodgers.
Yep.
You got Good Good, obviously.
I don't need to go into that whole group.
You've got Wyndham Clark.
Yep.
Now is that with Municipal, is that justWyndham at this point?

(25:53):
It's with Municipal.
Okay.
And so we're hoping Mark Wahlberg, you know, comes out here at some point.
He's a huge golfer, but Wyndham is into histeam, which is, again, makes him a great owner,
and he sees the vision.
It's like, you know, we're not out hererecruiting Rory McIlroy.
Like, y'all got we're not trying to competewith the PGA Tour.
Yeah.
We're looking for stories.

(26:14):
Yeah.
We're looking for great golf, guys that maybedidn't get on to the Korn Ferry or Canadian or
even the PGA Tour that still love the golf andwant a place to play.
And, typically, at the end of the day, thosetypes of people have better stories than maybe.
Yeah.
Of Rory McIlroy.
Nothing against him.
But if you put all those things together withthe par-three light stadiums, TV, and some

(26:37):
really gritty stories, you're like, okay.
I'm gonna hang around and watch this.
Hell yeah.
Scramble golf, what the journeymen, any twopeople, regardless of age, you're playing par
threes.
And to
that get it done.
To that point too is, like, the things that youremember about Tiger Woods were the fist pumps
and the emotion going on.
Yeah.
Sometimes when you play alone and you make a
big talk about that on this podcast.
All the time.
All the time.

(26:57):
Yeah.
I mean, it is like, that is what's missing ingolf.
And what's cool is, like, our podcast cover fortonight is when one of the guys I don't even
know who it was because I didn't have the nameon the photo, but he had just made a putt and
the crowd went absolutely berserk.
He's got his arms up in the air.
The caddies are going nuts.
Like, that's the vibe that is missing in thisday and age of golf, and you guys have been

(27:22):
able to accomplish that.
And it's so funny because there was a team thatdid a qualifier.
It was all, like, singles, and they played bythemselves.
And I'm sitting there.
I'm like, dude, the guy just made a birdie andno one's like, he's afraid of fist bump.
I'm like, whoa.
Then it kinda hit me even harder where I waslike, hey.
That was a massive putt if he actually wants toplay on this team, and I know he does because I
talked to him before.
When you play alone, it's this weird dynamic.

(27:44):
But, like, if Buttsy and I are playing Yeah.
Not to overlook you.
Me or if you and I were playing.
Sorry.
I keep overlooking you, man.
But, like, if we're if we got a birdie puttcoming down the stretch and we make it, I mean,
I'm probably tackling Buttsy if I could get himon the ground.
But you
might break his back.
Yeah.
I don't know.
But, like, that's what everything's missing is,like, sharing that experience with someone else

(28:04):
and being like, okay.
You leapt out.
I'll get you here, and then you make it.
That's where you get the excitement.
Yeah.
So it all like, there's a lot of ingredients tothis that we think is a solid foundation.
The dugout vibe.
Yep.
For sure.
Yeah.
Let me run down real quick these teams becausewe've got countries that are covered.
We've got cities and we got states.
Okay?
So we've got the Canada Patriks.

(28:27):
They're owned by Social Leverage.
The Dallas Horseman, which is the Good GoodGolf ownership group.
You've got Hollywood Hitters, which is owned byCommonwealth.
That's a sports funding group.
You got the Los Angeles Roses.
That's MLB manager Dave Roberts.
Let me cut you off on the Hollywood Hitters.
The actual ownership group, because it getskind of confused, is, okay, Brian Doxtator,

(28:49):
Mardy Fish, and John Mallinger.
Oh, okay.
It's actually it's
And if you know sports, Mardy Fish.
Yeah.
And John Mallinger's playing in this event withPeter Tomasulo.
Oh.
Yeah.
Korn Ferry winner.
You know?
How about it?
Let's tell that story.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
Shoot.
Where was I?
Sorry, Colin.
That's great.

(29:10):
Los Angeles Roses, you got owned by MLB managerDave Roberts.
You got the Michigan Auto Aces.
That's that team
right there.
And they are owned by the Ebergh Capital Group.
You've got Minnesota Muskies, which I know hitshome for you, being a Minnesota guy, owned by
the Aspen Technologies.
You got the New York Bluebirds, which hits homefor me, owned by the Lazaro Enterprises.

(29:33):
We've got hometown Phoenix United owned byManor Phoenix.
You've got San Diego Munis, which is WyndhamClark's team.
The Scottsdale Strikers, also local squad byRiot Hospitality Group.
And you got the Tampa Bay Swamp Dogs affiliatedwith Silverleaf Golf Club, the owner there.
So yep.
Yeah.
Pretty wild.

(29:54):
I mean, if you're starting a new league, like, you could easily go out now, you know, ask all
the guys that own sports teams just to buy ateam and be like, oh, let's just do that.
That's not fun.
That's not interesting.
No.
Like, let's get an eclectic group of people andput them into a pool and see what happens, see
what comes out of this.
And that's what you have on that list.
It's like, oh, we could have sold one to Elonand him and them.

(30:15):
It's like, that's no fun.
We want gritty owners that care about theirteam, care about the game.
Who cares?
I don't care what the name is.
As long as they care about the game, care aboutthe players that they're putting on their team,
that's what golf's missing and the ability totell stories about that.
You just reminded me of why Wrexham has beensuch a big success with Ryan Reynolds and Rob

(30:39):
McElhenney.
Yeah.
And Wrexham being the soccer team.
And I was just reading a whole article aboutthis that that's the reason they're so
successful is because they care and love thewhole entire thing and they've used it as a
platform as well.
And in the net, I forget if it's on Netflix orwhatever, but they've got the documentary
series and everything on it.

(31:00):
And now it is evaluated.
I think they bought it for $2.5 million, andnow it's worth a valuation of $100 million.
Oh, god.
And they don't care.
No.
That's the thing.
It's not about the money.
No.
And they love it.
And that was the whole thing.
It's like they put a heartbeat into that team, and that's what you're talking about with this
ownership of these franchises.

(31:21):
You want people that actually care.
Yeah.
That love this game, that love their team, their franchise, and really are putting back
into that.
So that's pretty sweet to hear that becausethat's only gonna lead to success in my
opinion.
Buttsy?
No.
I agree.
Buttsy, who's your favorite team, well, of the11?
Put them on the spot here.
We're going with Phoenix United.

(31:43):
For sure.
He's rocking the hat.
Yeah.
No.
It's not a clue.
The owner's just sitting right there throughthe window looking at him.
You better say Phoenix United.
Definitely Phoenix United.
Yeah.
Phoenix United.
So as we talk a little bit about Phoenix Unitedand the Grass League, you know, 2024, the Grass
League Open was a pretty big deal.

(32:04):
You guys had a big turnout, good success in thefirst year.
Yeah.
It was I mean, we've this it's been a journey,to say that much.
We we've seen everything around here.
You know?
We we took over the property.
We're putting up lights under construction.
Oh, hey.
Why don't we get a tournament on TV while we'reunder construction with cranes going by and all
this stuff?
So it's dope.

(32:25):
And it's just cool.
You just gotta do it, you know, and standbehind it.
So
That's really cool.
And as we talk about the 2024 Grass LeagueOpen, and, you know, as you're talking about
cranes going by and everything, there's alwaysa startup story.
Yeah.
Right?
And I overheard you talking a couple weeks agoabout this story of electricity and how, you

(32:48):
know, the first Grass League Open almost didn'thappen.
Tell us about this.
Yeah.
And I guess that's probably why there's notthat many lighted golf courses in America or
the world.
You know, when we took over the property, wewanted to get the lights up as quickly as
possible.
And, again, you might know more about thisstuff because you're in technology and energy
and all that stuff.

(33:08):
Would know.
We were not connected to the grid yet, and theywere gonna build the S, and Connor's right
there.
He's the one that knows it all.
The SRS panel or something, you know, all thefancy guys would know that.
It was gonna be, like, six months.
So we went and got generators to run all thisoff of, like, massive, massive generators.
What an undertaking.
And it was plumb for lights, like, from, like, the seventies, right, on some level or no?

(33:32):
I mean, they were hanging bistro lights in theseventies or the third or it's actually this,
like, middle sixty-two.
We have that newspaper in there.
Here goes that theory.
But, like, talk about a story.
Yeah.
years ago, they were trying to put lights up.
Yeah.
And then in 2024, they go on with Buscolighting and it's
Ain't that crazy?
It's so it's awesome.

(33:53):
And and we really didn't know that they triedto light it until, like, we had got the lease
and we're like, it's kinda spooky.
What the heck?
Like, who are these guys?
There's, like, pictures of guys on laddersgoing up palm trees and, like, hanging lights.
I'm like, this is so grassy to us.
That's we like that's the, you know, theadjective we like to use is grassy.
But so to that point, we were lighting the golfcourse with generators.

(34:16):
And so leading up to the Grass Clippings Open,we had about four or five months.
I remember the Good Good event.
I was like, holy smokes.
This could be such an amazing event.
And then I'm just sitting out in the parkinglot looking at that generator.
I'm like, whole wouldn't that
That goes out.
The place just goes and they're like, we'relive here at Grass Clippings on.
You're like, oh, goodness.

(34:38):
So we got to that.
You know, you lay in bed after the Goodingevent, you're like, okay.
That was amazing and great huge success.
So we do the Grass Clippings Open and haven'thad any problems with generators or anything
like that.
It's Friday, and then Saturday, we're goinglive on the broadcast.
And I'm in here back here.
We're still under construction.
There's crazy stuff going on.

(34:59):
I'm talking to the director who's running theHBO and TBS and Bleacher Report, that whole
crew.
And we're like, okay.
We're gonna go live in 30 minutes.
He's like, Pete, you're Todd, you gotta getover there in, you know, 10 minutes at least or
15 minutes.
And Connor walks in.
Then he's talking to somebody else.
He's like, hey.
The lights won't work.
They're not turning on.

(35:19):
And I'm sitting there, and I'm like, I'm justgonna act like I didn't hear that.
And I'm like, oh gosh.
And so I literally leave the room, and I walkdown there to the broadcast booth, and I'm
like, they're not on.
They're not on.
Okay.
Keep it cool.
But, hey, guys.
Yeah.
We're great show.
And I'm like, dude, god something with god isthese things are gonna work.

(35:39):
And I turn my phone off on, you know, on do notdisturb, and I'm just sitting there.
I'm like, okay.
Doosh.
They go on.
They go on.
And I'm like, we are so back, baby.
Oh my god.
And that's I mean, that's
Within how many minutes would you say
There was still light out.
Yeah.
So you couldn't really tell.
We wouldn't have known until we were, like,uh-oh, a little ways into the broadcast.

(36:02):
I'm just sitting there.
I'm like, the lights, they're trying to putthem on.
Okay.
And so, again, Scottie Scott Hebert is directorof agronomy, but that doesn't do it justice.
He's back there.
You know?
He's a man of many talents.
The guy's brilliant.
Okay?
He does know more about grass than anybody, andhe knows how to run a generator the size of a

(36:23):
city block.
And I'm like, Scotty, why are you the one doingthis?
He's like, because I'm the only one who knowslike, even the guys that dropped it off, he's
like, know it better than them.
And he's in there just it makes it work.
Doing stuff.
So Trout wants to know what would havehappened, rain checks?
I don't have an answer for you.
I literally that would have been so
That would have been wild.

(36:44):
Yeah.
I mean, imagine that headline.
Delighted par three goes dark.
Karma was on each side, though.
They popped
on, like Yeah.
Some divine reason at the right time becauseeverything goes wrong if that doesn't happen.
Yeah.
Right?
Like, if it happens
We might not be sitting here today.
That's very positive.
If that happened.

(37:04):
I mean,
you could imagine where my head was going.
Oh.
Oh, yeah.
Tried not to, but but now, now Scotty can andanybody working the shop can just turn on the
lights with on their phone.
It's like nice.
The light app on your phone literally justturns the tech.
It's pretty crazy.
So those days are behind us.
But again, when you talk about, like, startupleagues, you talk about anything in general.
I don't care if it's a sport, a relationship oranything.

(37:27):
You need those like gritty foundational momentswhere you look back and be like, oh my gosh.
We could we could've got toasted there.
Mhmm.
Without that, like, people don't want a perfectpolished finished product day one.
I always say this about podcasts.
People love stories about the journey.
Yeah.
And they don't want all the good.
Right?
You gotta have some bad in there in order tohave that hero moment.

(37:50):
Yeah.
I keep knocking your damn microphone.
I apologize.
Right there to that point.
I mean, we're just microphones are fallingover, but that's what makes this podcast worth
watching.
You know?
Except it's like to the point here, it's like,we're not trying to be perfect.
I I don't like perfect.
Nobody really does like perfect.
Exactly.
People like you know, I'm a little worn in, youknow, seeing a thing or two.

(38:10):
And that's what you can say around here.
I'll tell you that much.
That is awesome.
Alright.
Let's get into the tagline because I gave you ahard time about this in the very beginning.
Here we go.
Right?
So we're on a podcast, and all of a sudden, this Todd Dobson starts coming into the
comments.
And I remember going oh,
this is
this backfired on me horribly because itactually was a really good point that Todd

(38:33):
made.
But I'm sitting there going, what's so highstakes about this grass league?
Like, why is that even a tagline?
Like, I didn't get it at first.
So I'm very curious.
Where did the tagline high stakes come from?
Well, I mean, high stakes is so there wassomething going on in golf at the time.

(38:57):
Everyone was, you know, the marketing for golftournaments was like, oh my gosh.
And all they're gonna be show up and they'regonna be playing for $20 million.
Like, the average fan is like, okay.
Let's divide 20,000,000 by this, by that.
Like, how much they I don't give a Yeah.
Yeah.
Let's show them about the new
100%.
And the perfect point to that is Rory McIlroywins the Masters, and you see his reaction.

(39:18):
He wins the Tour Championship, wins $18million, and he's like, hey.
Thanks.
Yeah.
I'm on the next flight out here.
There's no it's not resonating with anybody.
So when you look at the whole golf spectrum andyou break it down to its foundation, people
it's not about the money.
Yeah.
It's not about the money.
So you're spot on.
So when we say high stakes, it might be moneyfor some people.

(39:40):
Like, don't get me wrong.
Guys playing on the Canadian Tour, playing KornFerry, everything, every check matters.
So that's high stakes.
Yeah.
But other instances, it's like reputation.
And that's a real thing in golf.
Some guys are like, oh, I'm so good.
It's like, oh, you wanna play tomorrow?
We'll play for this.
They're like, my back's aching.
It's like, I have this persona and I can't.
If I lose to Buttsy, like, yeah.

(40:00):
There goes my whole identity.
Yeah.
So there's high stakes.
And the perfect example is, you know, back inJanuary, the LIV Tour team, the Iron Heads,
were in town, and they're getting ready fortheir lighted golf match, yeah, in Riyadh.
And somehow Jake got connected with the agentfor the team, and they were like, we wanna play
the Muskies.
And I'm like, what?

(40:21):
I was like, what's going on here?
What am I missing?
And he's like, no.
They wanna play the Muskies.
I was like, for, like, money or for what?
Like, what are you doing?
He's like, three v three scramble under thelights here.
And they ended up playing for, like, $30 apiece each side.
But it's like still.
If you know the players, like, that didn't meananything to any of them.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And, like, halfway through it, I was like, youknow what?

(40:43):
You know, love or hate the LIV guys.
You love or hate Kevin Na.
I ride with Kevin Na.
There's no reason he should be playing in thismatch.
Like, if he loses this match, it is the end ofthe world.
Yeah.
And if the Muskies lose, it's like, oh, yeah.
They should've lost.
Mhmm.
And he's willing to come out here, play forsome odd amount of money.
It doesn't matter to anybody.
And he's willing to put his reputation and histeam on the line.

(41:06):
I was like, that's high stakes.
So when you talk about high stakes, we're allabout leveraging golfers in high-leverage
friction environments.
Yeah.
And letting it play out.
If that's money, if a guy wants to come playfor a million bucks against a guy,
like I said earlier, taking the otherwiseaverage Joe, which is a great part of the

(41:28):
field.
Right?
And they get to one and the blood startspumping.
Like, that's high stakes.
Like, now you're in the arena.
Like, you're in the amphitheater, and you feelthat.
That's high stakes.
That's what you're saying.
Like, that's
I might shank the ball in front of 30 people orin front of 3,000 people.
Yeah.
I don't care about the money.
Like, I don't wanna be embarrassed like that.
Right.
So our whole thing is like, why talk about themoney?

(41:49):
At the end of the day, that's the livelihood.
It's like, okay.
I win the Valero Texas Open or something.
It's like, okay.
Great.
Like, good.
You got some good money.
Yeah.
But it's epic that you won that tournament.
Let's talk about that.
Mhmm.
That when you start bringing the money intothese tournaments, I think it has the opposite
effect.
It turns people off.
Well, and, of course, your first twotournaments end in a sudden-death playoff.

(42:11):
I mean, does it get any better than that?
Talk about high stakes.
We're batting a thousand right now.
We were like our thesis on this was like, ifyou do this and you had played over the lights,
two-man scramble, typically, leaderboard willgo like this, and you should have a crazy
ending.
The first tournament, we're on the broadcast.
And I'm like, we're supposed to be done, like,30 minutes ago.
And yeah.

(42:31):
We could go for another two hours.
Like, these guys could keep
the fires on.
And thank goodness, you know, there's threeMuskies in the event in the playoff and one
Phoenix United team.
And somehow, it came down to the last putt ofthat.
Eight guys playing, and it came down to DrewKittleson with a, you know, a 12-footer.
It was I mean, when you talk about, like, thesethings happen and you don't know why they

(42:55):
happen, divine intervention or whatnot, I'msitting there.
I'm like, are we really about are we watchingDrew Kittleson right now about to win the
tournament, the last putt to end it all?
Like, how did we get here?
And then, you know, fast forward a couplemonths, and now we're back in in December, and
we got Billy Haynes making a 50-footer.
I'm like, oh my lord.
And so I think it's a testament to the formatthat anybody can win, and it's like, I don't

(43:20):
care where you start the day at.
Dip Kittleson and Drew Stoltz started the GLchampionship at, like, 4 under, which was, I
wanna say, like, eight strokes back or
something.
Even
close.
Yeah.
I was like, they're out of it.
And by the time the broadcast came on, theywere at the last two holes.
They were the leaders in the clubhouse at 14 or15 under.
They shot 12 under.
Wow.

(43:40):
And I'm like, grind him back.
And I'm like, now they're relevant.
Obviously, they ended up losing, but it's justa testament to, like, just stay in it, you
know, batten down the hatches.
You might end up with a trophy at the end ofthe day.
What did Bill Murray call it?
Cinderella story.
Cinderella, Cinderella story.
And we got that going for us, which
is nice.
Liv has no storyline.

(44:01):
Okay.
So you're reading some of the comments.
Yeah.
Anti-Liv is ongoing.
He loves, loves Liv, as you can tell, with thename of his Twitter account.
Big, big lover of the group.
But as we're talking about 2025, Grass LeagueOpen, Matt Gannon here from Viserics or

(44:23):
Viserics, he says, Alex Zeront, Grass League, remember the name.
He's in the qualifier.
Right?
Wow.
I guess so.
He's in the same pool as Buttsy.
I
I the name.
I know all the names.
I've done some research on some
It's
like a Linkin Park song.
Yeah.
Remember the name.
Fort Minor.
Or Fort Minor.
There it is.
Yeah.
Sorry.
Which one
of my favorites.
Sorry.

(44:43):
Yeah.
Well, Fort Minor, wasn't he the guy from thesame.
Mike Shinoda.
Yeah.
There we go.
Impressive.
Perfect.
As we talk about this now we gotta get intosome seriousness because the one thing that I
am constantly asked, and I don't know if Ireally have a great answer for it, is what is
the purpose of the qualifier if, for instance, like, the winning team isn't guaranteed to get

(45:10):
drafted.
Right?
I mean, we could easily cut it off at 22 teamsand just say, okay.
There you go.
But, you know, life's all about picking up theunknown, and it's just we're gonna let 25 in
there.
And so you might not deserve to be there.
Yeah.
And you might have a chance, but you're even achance to interact and connect with an owner.

(45:32):
Again, this is like when we talk about teamgolf, like, people will compare us to whatever
they want to.
It doesn't compare.
Okay?
You know, you get Arthur Blank owning a TGLteam.
I have nothing against the TGL.
There's something inorganic about BillyHorschel and Arthur Smith's cars.
Like, okay.
What are we doing here?
Like, Billy Horschel doesn't need an attaboyfrom Arthur Smith.
Okay?
He's got plenty of accolades.

(45:54):
Okay?
The owners and the players have a deeprelationship right now.
For instance, the Phoenix United team, whythey're all over Buttsy.
You know?
And they're giving them gear and all thatstuff.
That's what's missing in golf, and, you know,it goes back to the resorters, for me at least,
back to the resorters when Jimmy came up forthe first time as an amateur.
And my dad is a very reserved guy.

(46:14):
Doesn't, you know, not very many highs.
Like, he's just the nicest, stable, solid dudein the world.
And I was like, Dad, you know, if Jimmy getsthrough the qualifier, he'll probably just
sneak through.
He's one of the better players in here.
I think you gotta buy him.
And he thought about it long and hard.
And my dad's never really had a seat at thegolf table.
You know, like, if he pulls up and there's abunch of scratch golfers playing, they're like,

(46:35):
hey, go to the next table.
Like, we don't wanna talk to you.
Yeah.
He ends up, he pulls me aside as we're about togo to the Calcutta.
He's like, you know, Todd, I'm gonna spendwhatever it takes.
Don't tell your mom.
I'm coming home with Jimmy.
You know, $9,000 later, I'm like, oh, you'rewhat's right?
Jimmy's got
not lying.
Jimmy's got a tee time the next day against aguy that's playing in the field that was Mister

(46:56):
Minnesota.
Yeah.
And Jimmy's, I think, like, the 28 seed.
No one's ever heard of him.
He's from Phoenix.
We're in western Minnesota.
Like, who is this guy?
And my dad is like his security guard is SnoopDogg.
He's like, you know, he is just I've never seenhim so happy in the connection between Jimmy
and my dad.
I'm sitting there.
I'm like, dude, what is going on?
And Jimmy's like, I don't wanna let your daddown.

(47:17):
He spent $9,000 on me.
Yeah.
And my dad's like, this is everything.
He's like, hey.
Round of beers.
My horse is on the tee.
And I'm like, there's something here.
That's so awesome.
And look at that.
And so that's the type of mentality we'retrying to implement into the teams I gotcha.
There's this relationship between owners andplayers to where we want the best for you.
So question, could we end up in a ShedeurSanders type of moment where somebody who

(47:43):
finishes very highly tomorrow falls way downbecause maybe they don't have that relationship
with the teams?
They just don't like them, you know?
And yeah.
They all got their own unique fingerprint ofhow they operate.
Right?
Like
yeah.
And so style.
This might be the, you know, not to say I don'tthe player's not at fault or anything, but, you

(48:03):
know, this might be the balancing act of golfwhere
it's like,
you know, maybe yes.
As Colin Cowherd says, it doesn't hurt toembody humility.
So Buttsy's time tomorrow is 4:34 on the dot.
Make sure you're out here, Todd.
And then also from Todd Golfer, what's thewinning team win tomorrow?
Is there anything that they get?

(48:26):
Oh, that's a good question.
Let me check.
Shot wait.
Hold on one sec.
Can we still have
those gift cards?
There is now.
$25
gift
$25 gift card.
Love that.
Love that for the Well,
what what
I wanna ask
you is, you know, when Shedeur Sanders gotsigned, what did he get?

(48:46):
It comes with a contract, you know, like, inthe money and all that stuff.
We're in year No.
We're really in year one.
Okay?
And so that owner might be like, okay.
I'm gonna lock you up forever.
Like, the fact that you're the qualifier, signed you a ten-year deal, here's the money.
You can do whatever you want.
There's Jimmy, by the way, just walking by.
Jimmy.
Jimmy.
Jimmy.
What up,
man?

(49:07):
What?
What's up?
It's been weak.
Oh, yeah.
Weak, Jimmy.
I have a Let's go.
Oh, yeah.
We've been hearing a lot about you.
That's rock, dude.
He's gonna come back.
We're gonna get him on here.
I'm gonna step out.
But at the same time, it's like you get anopportunity to play.
I know that might sound cheesy and all thatstuff, but we have high hopes for this.

(49:28):
This league will be around 100 years from now.
And I say that with confidence because we'resticking to a game plan and let's
go.
Yeah.
But over time, it'll change.
But my question to what is it, Trot?
Trot.
Trot.
Like, if you go play in a Monday queue, what doyou get?
You win the Monday queue.
It's a good point.

(49:48):
This isn't a foreign concept, Trot.
Like, you got any other brainbusters here?
You get pride.
Putting Todd on the spot.
Alex Sarot says 10 under tomorrow.
Love that.
Confidence.
What I thought.
Is the winning number?
Yeah.
10 to 12.
I love that Matt Gannon threw Alex Sarot's namein here, and then Alex Sarot jumps on and says

(50:10):
what he's gonna shoot tomorrow.
That's pretty good.
I take that back, though.
Ten to twelve, but, like, if the wind blows outthere, you look at it on paper, it's like, oh,
it's a 95-yard hole.
Yeah.
But if you're, like, five feet past the middleof green, it's out of bounds long.
And if the wind's blowing, like, this placegets real nasty.
I will
say this.
I was out here for one of the Wednesday skinsgames with Mike Lenny, who's on Phoenix United.

(50:30):
Yep.
And he's been playing incredible golf lately.
And I'm playing with him, and the wind waswhipping out here, and it ended up being one of
those nights that was, like, 40 degrees.
Yeah.
And we were just out here.
Yep.
And it was shivering.
And, man, it is tough
Yeah.
out here when that wind gets going.
And some of these greens, what people don'trealize on TV or even coming out here watching

(50:55):
is just how hard it is to stick some of theseshots on these greens because you gotta have
really good spin control.
Oh.
That was one of the things that I've noticedout here.
Yeah.
And when you start shaving down these greens
which Scottie's doing.
It's gonna be firm and fast tomorrow, andScottie was just telling me what he's gonna do
to the greens tomorrow.
It's gonna be diabolical, but I think it waspretty interesting when Kevin knocked him out

(51:19):
here for his practice round before the match.
And I just remember walking up to the fourthtee box, which plays at a different hole.
Yeah.
It's flipped for tomorrow in the tournament.
But, like, he was getting frustrated andtalking to his team and all this stuff, and
they're like, you gotta hit a knuckle.
You can't spin it.
No.
Because they said ripping it off.
And then over time, he started hitting theright shot.
But it's like, if you don't know the course andif you can't hit every shot, you're gonna

(51:41):
struggle in certain instances.
So definitely something I've noticed that themore I play out here, I'm like Yeah.
Oh, I'm starting to get the feel for it alittle bit.
This is a course that having some localknowledge is a big help.
Oh my god.
The hole's volcanic.
Everything sits up.
Everything's crowned.
And if you miss by more than, what, five yards, like, you're not gonna have a great time

(52:02):
chipping from where you end up.
But to your point about local knowledge, it'sthe coolest part—one of the coolest parts of
the tournament is, like, the bag boys out here, the grounds crew, they'll get hit up.
Like, I was walking out earlier, and Brock waslike, hey, do you know who Vince India is?
I was like, well, I do now.
Like, he's playing in the tournament.
The guy's a stud.
He's like, oh, I'm on his bag this week.
And I'm like, what?
He's like, yeah.

(52:22):
He found out that I work here, and there's somekind of, like, connection between where they're
from.
He's like, I'm caddying for him.
I'm like, damn.
Like, that's crazy.
Yeah.
Like, yeah.
Vincent, he's a hell of a golfer.
Was the male athlete of the year in Iowa in,like, February, I think, '11 or something.
Shit.
And he's from there.
And I'm like, let's go.

(52:43):
And then you get guys randomly.
You'll have, you know, guys on the grounds crewjust on a bag.
You're like, okay.
These guys are smart.
You know?
So
Question for Buttsy here by Kyle over atCartbarn Guys.
He says, is Buttsy going to bring the buzztomorrow?
Yeah.
Yeah.
We already talked about this.
He's talking about the pregame.
Yeah.
One of one of
the Yeah.

(53:04):
He's definitely What
What would fail me when I was younger is Iwould think, oh, I'm playing in a tournament
now.
Everything's gotta change.
I gotta button down the hatches and getserious, and it's like, that's not how I play
my best golf.
So like I said, I'm gonna treat it like anyother weekend day.
Gotta get into the flow state, right?
Gotta treat it
good time.
time.
Yeah.
Get comfortable out there.
I feel like that's the biggest thing to do in atournament is get as comfortable as possible as

(53:28):
quickly as possible, and that way, you can playto your level that you know how to play.
It's a fine line.
You gotta be very careful going down that road.
We'll have the Bev cart just trailing yourgroup the whole day.
I was gonna
I mean, she's gonna make a lot of money
Yeah.
I need to bring, like, a rolling cooler, or isshe gonna be around?
She'll be just tailing you guys the entiretime.

(53:49):
We'll make more money on Buttsy than the wholefield.
That's right.
Probably true.
I mean, I have been out there with the man, andhe can pack them away like no other.
I mean, but it is amazing.
I will say this, and I was talking withactually, Buttsy and I were both there.
We were talking.
And who the hell was it that we were talkingwith where they're like, Buttsy in the drunken

(54:10):
flow state can take on just about anybody?
Yeah.
Who was it that we—was it Brent after thepodcast?
I think a
lot of people have said that.
It's not a point of pride.
But it is a
fact.
That's a fact.
Not proud of it, but it is what it is.
It took a lot of discovery to figure that out.
So
But let's get back to players.
Obviously, in this year's event, who are someplayers that you're looking out for?

(54:34):
And, actually, hang on.
Yeah.
Let me take a step back because it was prettycool where, you know, stories just tend to find
me.
Yep.
And we're walking out to go see if the 18th isgonna be feasible tonight because wind was
blowing like crazy.
We had a really cool backdrop and everything.
And sure enough, it didn't work out.
There wasn't the Wi-Fi wasn't good enough.

(54:54):
Like, there's all these reasons why we're notout there right now.
However, we ran into Lucky's dad and him and sothis kid, Lucky, with the frog.
Yeah.
At the qualifier.
Yeah.
Dude looks so dope.
Like, he's got a vibe all himself.
And he, like, I'm hearing these stories fromhis dad about how they're traveling over to

(55:15):
South Africa, and they're doing this and that.
And they're going down to Mexico and playing inall these events and everything.
I mean, talk to me a little bit about even thatstory right there.
Well, it's crazy.
I mean, he reached out to me on Instagram andthen the Grass League account and all that
stuff and just was just fired up.
He's like, this is the instant he read about itor however he came across it, he was all in on

(55:38):
it.
Yeah.
And we're like, dude, please please play.
Like Yeah.
As we say, if you can make it, we'd love tohave you.
So he made it a point to come out here, his dadsaid that.
The kid's unbelievable.
It's golf swinging, you know.
And and, again, it's it's tough to to find afooting on a pro golf tour.
So he's kind of in that space where he's goodenough.
He's just gotta have the right week to catch onand go.

(55:58):
Yeah.
So, again, that's where the Grass League isreally designed to be.
Like, we're not trying to be, you know, PGATour Canada.
We're not trying to be the PGA Tour.
We're trying to be the Grass League.
And what that is is a platform for golfers toplay and hopefully make NIL money, sponsorship
dollars, win a purse as the purses get bigger.
Yeah.
And it's like, oh, let's say Lucky plays thisweek and then, you know, in our summer grind

(56:18):
event, he can't make it because he Monday'dinto a PGA Tour event.
You know, most tours might say, oh, what is hedoing playing in the PGA Tour?
Like, our philosophy is, like, let's go.
Like, go do.
This was the point is let us springboard, like, give you a bounce into wherever you wanna be,
and we'll be fully supportive.
you.
That's really cool.
And I also like the dynamic to where he's ayoung dude, and then he's teamed up in the

(56:44):
qualifier with Tony Finau's brother.
Gipper Finau.
When the name came through, I was like, wait.
Is that the same Finau?
And then you meet him, and you look at him, andwhen he's talking, he looks just like Tony.
Oh, yeah.
I remember following those two's career beforeeither of them got big and yeah.
Like, they were known.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Gipper Finau.
And, again, he's in the qualifier.

(57:05):
Yeah.
Yeah.
He's in the qualifier.
They're in the qualifier.
It's crazy.
We're not even talking about the teams that—no,the teams
that are already sent.
Yeah.
I think what I think tomorrow might be the I'mactually, I hate to say this, but most excited
about because it looks like everything's on theline.
You got people flying out.
If they missed the cut, they're gone.
They might stick around, but, like, there's youknow, to Trot's point, there's you know, life

(57:28):
is tough sometimes, Trot.
Trot does wanna know, is the draft live?
It is.
Right?
It's gonna be on YouTube.
Yeah.
It's gonna be on YouTube on the Grass Leaguechannel.
Yep.
It's gonna be it's gonna be on so the way we'redoing it was we have a stage out here on the
event line.
So the concert's gonna be out on 18 K.
Where Bryce Vine and Quinn XCII are gonna begoing crazy.
She's the next Drew Barry.
Yep.
And we're

(57:48):
I want more.
And Drew Barrymore is gonna be hosting thedraft over here.
Perfect.
No.
But there's a we're gonna have a stage, andthen all the teams are gonna have their own,
like, their own little headquarters with atable with, you know, all their signage, and
it's like the war room.
And so we have Archie Bradley is gonna be kindof the the host slash entertainment with Nick

(58:09):
Bonilla, the the the rapper, on Thursday night, and Jake is gonna make some remarks as the
commissioner.
Perfect.
But we're trying to make it feel like the NBAdraft or the NFL draft.
You know?
And it's I mean, shoot.
I get announced, are they gonna come up onstage, do the handshake everything?
Is
what are they doing on the side?
They hug Roger Goodell?

(58:30):
Oh, they get a hat.
So we're doing I'll leave the jersey.
Yeah.
They hate to see it, or I won't even break, butwe have a a hat deal.
I we don't have them I haven't put it on yet.
We're gonna break the news that night, but wehave a and so when they put the
breaking the news right now.
But when they put the hat on, you know, it'salso symbolic of, you know, just sports in
general when you put that hat on, you'redrafted, you're onto your next opportunity.
But it's pretty cool that we're gonna use thatto announce a hat partnership.

(58:54):
So yeah.
You know?
Dude, that's awesome.
So awesome.
Trying to think outside the box.
I have a feeling I already know who the hatpartnership is with.
Wow.
We can't announce that, though, can we?
Right.
What's we're
just we're watching that.
Yeah.
That's a whole lot.
Yes.
Might wanna wait for tomorrow or actuallyThursday.
That's Thursday, the draft.
Yeah.
Now it's
been a long week.

(59:14):
The projected purse, is that I know money's notthe biggest thing in the world or anything like
that in these, but I believe that I sawsomething that said it was one hundred thousand
dollars.
Correct.
One hundred thousand bucks.
But there's a lot of other money going around
Oh, yeah.
As well.
Oh, yeah.
We're gonna get it done, bro.
I can't understand what
you're signing.
Here, come over here.

(59:34):
Just ask me.
Please sign an autograph.
Don't be everything.
Can't write.
You guys done yet?
What's going on?
Teddy's in the final group.
What up, Todd?
Lawrence Jarvi playing with Jay Feely.
Oh, shit.
On me tonight, so I'm playing by myself.
You guys play with me.
What time do
you see that?
I'm throwing in my mat, Will.
Wait.
Wait.
Wait.
Twenty-five.
You wanna play?
Well, whatever this thing wraps up, we'll comefind you.

(59:55):
K.
Come
find me.
Oh, love it.
Wow.
I'm still
He might be looking for a partner tomorrownight, the final group.
Whoo.
Oh, tomorrow night.
A good group.
Yeah.
There's a Oh, jeez.
Over there like
I mean, when the lights come on, I tend to showup if you can't tell.
Yeah.
Alright.
Now as we get beyond the purse, let's talkabout the event.

(01:00:16):
So, actually, I wanna go back.
Are there any players specifically that you'reexcited about in the qualifier?
I could I'm excited about almost I mean all ofthem?
Yeah.
All of them.
But, like, there's there's some headliners, like, for instance, Riggs Johnston who won
Oh, yeah.
He's playing in it?
Yeah.
He won the Australian Open.
And if you and I was cruising around, andsometimes you kinda get distracted when it says
DP World Tour.

(01:00:36):
The DP World Tour is the European Tour.
Yeah.
And when I grew up, that was Europe.
Almost as big as the PGA Tour.
A
%.
And so they
had their years.
And I'm like, oh my gosh.
I'm like, well, he won the Australian Open inhis second start.
And you look at that leaderboard, he beat CamSmith by 15 strokes.
Yeah.
He beat Joaquin Niemann, beat Marc Leishman, beat, you know, the list goes on.
And Min Woo Lee was in that field.

(01:00:57):
I'm like, and he's coming to the Grass League?
I'm like, what?
And he's playing with Ben Herman from SilverLake on the 10 Baseball Box.
Wow.
Yeah.
And their pairing is with the Dallas Horsemen,Michael Block and Ryder Eppson.
Wow.
What a group.
I don't care who you throw in a pairing.
Yeah.
It's gonna be tough to pique my interest morethan those four people in a group.

(01:01:19):
Ryder Eppson is an activist.
Why is this
not being televised?
I might have to agree with
that.
The qualifier.
I mean, you gotta start somewhere.
The hope is that everything's televised at somepoint.
But you know?
I mean, my goodness.
This is prime time TV for the qualifier.
I mean, I'm surprised CBS isn't out herefollowing Buttsy, but
maybe not.

(01:01:39):
Maybe next year.
And I just keep going.
I'll play with whoever.
Oh, absolutely.
I'll play.
Anyways, moving on from that.
Like, the guy that showed up at the Masters.
There's a bunch of other good groups, dude.
I feel like I'm the Canadian kids that arejust, like, traveling 24 hours to go to the
Players Championship.
They get free stuff.
They get into the tournament.

(01:02:00):
All of a sudden, they're going to TGL thefollowing week and the Masters the following.
Like, it was absolutely nuts, those Canadiankids.
Dude, that was a great story.
What?
How do we get them here?
I know.
Well, they have cell phones?
Know who set most of that up was Monday Q withBrian French?
And he I I he's gonna be here.
We need him.
Oh, Brian's gonna be here.
Well, Mark Baldwin's playing for the CanadaHatcheries with, of course, with Jared du Toit.

(01:02:23):
Oh, du Toit.
Yeah.
I bet you could
reach out to them tonight.
And that would be on a jet.
Let's come and do it right now.
That was my prediction was
Where are those
Canadian Baldwin and du Toit win thetournament.
I mean, that's a bold prediction with
all names
on field, but what's he going out tonight?
What do you mean going out?
No.
Canada boys.
What is it called?
Canadian boys?

(01:02:43):
The Canadian boys.
The Canadian boys.
Yeah.
That's that's all I remember on X and so forth.
They were just going out as the Canadian boys.
Imagine them getting the call.
Oh, yeah.
No.
Fuck out.
Oh, we'd be down in I love that.
Out and about tonight, but we'll be downtomorrow.
That's the best accent I probably have isCanadian.

(01:03:04):
Let's go with the next question, which is for,you know, people that haven't been out here,
which I've invited quite a few people andthey've been purchasing some tickets that are
coming out to the event.
And they wanna know, you know, is there gonnabe food?
Is there going like, what is the foodsituation?
Because they're kind of planning on, you know,we'll go out Friday after work.

(01:03:28):
We're gonna obviously peruse around the golf alittle bit, but food, drinks, concerts.
Have you seen the movie Hunger Games?
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's gonna be, like, a variation of that forthe fans.
Yeah.
There'll be a small amount of food and just lethave at it.
No.
So we got food trucks everywhere throughouthere.
We got bars set up everywhere.
We have our restaurant that just opened, GlenRosa Restaurant.

(01:03:49):
Gonna be open.
Oh, yeah.
I mean wow.
This place is gonna be humming.
And then on Hole 18, there's hospitality tents.
There's three on the green.
There's one that surrounds the tee box, whichis also number one tee box.
And then at number five, there's thehospitality tent up there.
Bars everywhere, food everywhere.

(01:04:09):
The idea is we're trying to make this ascomfortable as possible and let people enjoy
some great, great golf.
Right?
And the cool thing about Number 15 is you'reliterally hanging over the ropes or over the
railing.
Yeah.
And the green is literally right there.
That's so awesome.
Someone tugs it a little left.
I think the canopy should protect you, but froma blade left could be a problem.

(01:04:32):
But, again, it's the Hunger Games.
Be humming.
Yeah.
And Nick Bonilla is gonna be hanging out inthere.
Bev Boys Golf, maybe doing some wraps in 15,and that's open to the GA.
Number one and 18 tee boxes open at GA, and youjust walk in and have a good time.
After it.
We got a prediction here by Kyle over at CarBarn Guys.
JD and Xander win the whole thing, he says.

(01:04:54):
And the reason I'll back him up on that, JD, Ifeel like has coached half the people in the
field.
Xander Winston, I'm a big fan of.
He was the leading money winner on the Dakotatours and then was asked not to return the
following year.
And I was like, anyone too crazy for the Dakotatours has got my attention.
But now he's back.

(01:05:15):
There's a little bit of a misunderstanding, Iguess.
Great guy, great golfer.
I would not be surprised to see them comingdown the stretch with a chance to win on
Saturday.
So holy smokes.
What?
Holy smokes.
Oh, yeah.
I just want someone to
bet this stuff.
But that's a different story.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Yep.
Get someone
to pick it up with the odds.

(01:05:35):
Oh, boy.
That was actually a question that I didn't haveon the list, but I was going through and
putting in some bets for this week.
And not for obviously this, but I was going toask you.
I'm like, have you drawn any interest fromoddsmakers about potentially doing odds for the
Grassley?
Yeah.
Definitely interest here, there, and it's justit's such a big industry and big companies that

(01:05:59):
it's tough to, you know.
I don't know.
There's a lot of red tape and a lot of youknow, it's gotta give it some years and get the
interest going.
I wouldn't be surprised if we have somethinggoing by our August event and December coming
back because there is interest way over myknowledge or, you know, way over my pay grade,

(01:06:20):
you know, doing all that stuff.
But we have got great lawyers.
Jake's running with it.
So I can't promise anything, but we will bebetting on this someday.
I'll have some player history then wherethey'll actually take, you know, some steep
odds.
Oh, yeah.
Where they can.
You can bet $5 on these guys.
But Buttsy money line would be an epic bet.
Oh, it's gonna happen.
Yeah.
It's gonna happen.
Big underdog out there.

(01:06:43):
Funny.
Hila I
ain't saying shit.
The Gila River Resorts is the title sponsor forthis event.
Gila River Resort and Casino.
River Resorts and Casinos.
Yep.
Prepped.
What was the value prop you think that madethem interested in becoming the title sponsor?
That's a great question.
I mean, from my perspective, they have a hotel,a casino, obviously, for trying to attract

(01:07:10):
people that typically come here.
You know?
I love to gamble, and I'm gonna start goingthere all the time.
Golfers do love to gamble.
And quick fact real quick, all the players inthe field, if you get through to get drafted,
all of the players are given a $100 chip tomark with their ball.
And then, you know, you can go to the casinothat night and
then You gotta be shit.
That's amazing.
That's, I mean, that's interesting marketingright there.

(01:07:30):
Yeah.
It's awesome.
But if you think about it, you're sick.
You have all ages coming out here.
You know, men and women coming to play in thisevent, and they're in golf, and everybody
typically wants to attract golfers because ofvery, you know, a very Yeah.
List of reasons.
And, I mean, it's kind of just a perfectbreeding ground for people that might go to

(01:07:53):
their casino.
And and and there's a lot of transient peoplethat come through here that are here for, you
know, a month here for a couple weeks and Mhmm.
That like to gamble.
You know?
Lot of
we get a lot of Canadians.
We get a lot of people from Minnesota, Iowa,Wisconsin, Michigan.
Where do you guys go?
Yeah.
The Hila Hoop?
Yeah.
And so they have a chance to really grab theattention of these people coming to town
because, oh, I heard about the lighted golfcourse and boom.

(01:08:14):
If you're able to win them there, you know, they're gonna keep going there instead of going
to any other competitors.
I gotta tell you, smart move by Gila RiverResorts and Casino.
And
when I played, we did a match, and I was, youknow, commentating with Mike Trout and Barry
Enright.
And I looked down and I'm like, what?
I asked Mike Trout.
I'm like, what is that marker?

(01:08:35):
And he's like, oh, Whirlwind.
I was like, Whirlwind?
And that's like two days after we announcedthat we were that's our partner.
And he's like, yeah.
You're the river.
And I'm like, if Mike Trout plays Whirlwind, soshould you.
This is everything.
So, you know, it's all just it all works itselfout.
It's weird stuff like that.
So synergy.
They are we're very, very fortunate to havethem as a, as a, as a I'd like to say a partner

(01:08:58):
rather than a sponsor because we're gonna doeverything we can to help them out and achieve
what they're looking to do.
But we don't take it lightly.
It is we're very, very fortunate.
Buttsy, any questions?
I'm so damn nervous, man.
I just can't even no.
I keep getting all these damn text messages.
Like, I'll just leave it later.
You have been sudden granted, you've got twotalkers right now.

(01:09:22):
Don't wanna take away anything.
You have been more silent.
Like, I feel like when I see the percentage ofwho talked, like, because I get these after the
episodes.
Oh gosh.
It's going to literally be 2%, forty
% That's
all I'm
here for tonight.
I'm just trying to be supportive.
It's in the on-deck circle.

(01:09:43):
It's perfect, though.
And 90% of what comes out of my mouth is reallyfucking terrible.
So and I don't and I don't wanna do thattonight.
So
You're you're on your best behavior.
Yes.
With the
owners on property, it's like,
you know
Just fair.
Yeah.
They're trying to be good.
It's absolutely fair.
Let's talk a little bit about the 2025 schedulefor the Grass League because one of the

(01:10:03):
interesting things that I didn't expect that Iended up seeing is that the Summer Grind is an
event that you guys are gonna do.
Is this the first time I mean, I know youmentioned Mountain Shadows originally, but is
this the first time that you guys are goingoff-site?
Yeah.
Since the inception of the Grass League, it'sthe first time we're going off-site.
And, again, it's part of the it's part of theallure of what we're doing here is, like,

(01:10:27):
lighted par-three golf.
We we're looking for 18 holes of championshipgolf.
And that's very important because at thefoundation of all of this, we are all about
competition.
We want someone to make a putt and I don't carewho it is and then celebrate and it means
something to them and they earn it.
So when looking for golf courses that we coulddo lighted golf, on a par-three course, it's

(01:10:48):
very limited if you look around the country.
Mhmm.
And we we thought long and hard, and we'relike, that's part of the opportunity here.
We we truly believe more lighted par-three golfcourses are gonna be built around the country,
which can become stadiums and host sites formore Grass League events.
But when we had to make a decision, you know,we we know John Ashworth fairly well and

(01:11:08):
Over at Goat Hill?
Goat Hill.
And, I mean, they have similar vibes.
And
then, okay.
And they've, you know, we've been well aware ofthem and been an inspiration for us, what
they've done there.
Although it's not lighted, we have the idea ofwe're gonna bring in, you know, makeshift
lights and
That's what I was just gonna ask, can youretrofit the right golf course, like you said,
with generators and lights and,

(01:11:29):
Yeah.
I mean, I just have to host
an event there under the lights.
Long term, it's not sustainable.
Yeah.
We would prefer it to be lighted, but for, like, Goat Hill, it's like, you know, that
place is legendary.
It's legendary precisely.
But, you know, if you look back in golf andhistorically, from a marketing perspective, the

(01:11:49):
Battle at Bighorn.
Do you remember that?
Oh, of course.
When I saw the first commercials, like, SergioGarcia and a female golfer and, you know, I
believe it was I'm gonna botch it, but thenTiger Woods and somebody else.
Yeah.
And they're like, in the last three holes,we'll be under the lights.
I was like, oh my gosh.
I ended up watching the entire broadcast fromhole one to 18 just because I wanted to see the

(01:12:12):
three holes under the lights.
Yeah.
And so we're gonna draw inspiration from thatand light up, you know, a couple holes at the
end, and it's Battle at Bighorn all over again.
Really?
Okay.
So just the end of Goat Hill Park is not afully lighted golf course.
No.
It's not lighted.
Yeah.
At all.
And so what's the
spot I
didn't know?
Indio Hills, isn't there?
Yep.
What's that place called?

(01:12:33):
Because they have lights.
In India.
There's some legendary, you know, there's oldschool stuff there.
They have a skins game that's been really bigforever and, like,
Believe me.
It's on our radar.
We've already talked to ownership.
That's gonna be in the works.
The problem is, again, it's a similar climatehere.
I gotta get you in contact with David Geese,PGA Tour caddie.
So he's on Bud Cauley's bag.
Okay.
He's in North Carolina, right by where they areplaying the PGA Championship.

(01:12:58):
Why can't I think of the name?
But that being said, there is a par-3 coursethat's going in that's gonna be lighted in
North Carolina.
And he's like, man, we gotta talk because thisis going like, this could be a spot for you
guys to come out to on these Carolina
tour?
Let's go.
Well, I,
mean, there's a lot of ways you canconceptualize this, but, like, the idea for us

(01:13:23):
is, you know, let's say we have fourtournaments, eight tournaments or whatnot.
We look at our tournaments like majorchampionships.
There's four, maybe five on the PGA Tour.
The Players plus the four major championships.
If we can have four sites that, you know, maybewe don't own, but we have a relationship.
And now it becomes like, I didn't get into theGCO, but I got into the GL Championship, but I

(01:13:45):
got to play in North Carolina, and then I got.
When you start to think, you know, I'm 36
years old.
That's where it's at.
But the par-3 course is near there.
Oh, okay.
But, like, when you start to think about golfand life when you're 36 years old, like, I'm
kinda, you know, running out of my prime rightnow.
Ah, you're in your prime.
You kidding me?
Yeah.
I hope so.
I see you running around this place like noother.

(01:14:06):
Springing.
Yeah.
But, like, the opportunity to play in eventslike that and to be relevant even if you're not
on a roster and qualify in, like, that keepspeople amped up.
That, you know?
That keeps people from
It does.
You know, making bad life choices.
Okay?
So now the GL Championship in December is backhere.
Back here.
Yes.

(01:14:26):
End the year, crown a champion for theseason-long standing and find another GL
champion at Billy Haynes and Dan Buckner.
And you and I have talked offline in regards tojust like other stuff that is, like, gonna
happen throughout the year.
Yep.
A bit.
I mean, do you wanna share some of those plansor just some of the ideas around kinda in

(01:14:48):
between these big events?
Yeah.
We've been testing with a production companyhere in town about there's something about live
sports.
It's why we're so excited about going live onNBC Peacock.
When it's live, you don't have control, andit's like, there's something about that.
So when we look at the landscape of, like,YouTube golf and everything, we want to start

(01:15:09):
doing live matches under the lights.
You know?
That's awesome.
Yeah.
Think about when the NBA on NBC theme songcomes on.
Like, when I was a kid, I'd stop, and I'm like,I have to watch this.
And we want to create something that can garnerthat kind of attention.
And so it's the lights.
It's par three.
It's live.
And the idea is, like, what if these owners,it's like, what's hypothetically, Buttsy and I

(01:15:33):
own a team are like, okay.
Let's put our guys
up.
Yeah.
Put up your best two.
I'll put up my best two.
$50,000.
Yep.
It's like, I got Matt playing with whoeveryou're playing with tomorrow.
We'll figure that out.
You know, by the end of this podcast, we'regonna just, we're gonna dig in.
Well, hang on a second.
As you bring that up.
Zoom in on those.
As you bring this up.
So, Matty, there's a spot at 02:28 that needsanother group.

(01:15:55):
Me and you, do they have any Guinness outthere?
Yeah.
Already have Guinness on tap here.
Oh my.
Yeah.
Is that
enough?
Is that enough?
So just, I mean, Trot's throwing it out there.
Shit.
I got, I just feel like the universe in someway is going to have me playing tomorrow.
We'll find out.
Yep.
We shall find out.

(01:16:17):
So Trot, to that point, I have totally fixedthe chipping yips, which is all due to you, by
the way.
So a track golfer, I went out there.
He's a real person.
K.
So he's not like AI or generated.
Yeah.
I met him.
K.
And within about ten minutes, he fixed mychipping.
And it wasn't perfect right away, but aftersome practice

(01:16:37):
Yeah.
Completely gone.
And I had gotten so bad because of the chippingyips.
If I missed a green, it was an automatic, atleast a bogey.
Yeah.
And I could be, like, on the fringe.
Yeah.
And, like, a double bogey wasn't certain.
So you had some real problems.
I had met Trot in person, and he walked up tome, and I didn't know who he was.
And he proceeded to, before introducinghimself, roll me a filterless cigarette and

(01:17:00):
hand it to me.
So when I went in, he goes, come on into myoffice.
And sure enough, he rolled a cigarette while weOh, he's like
the most classic.
Yeah.
He's a
He is he's grassy.
He's got a spot for grassy.
He's grassy.
So here's the thing.
Yeah.
He's got $1,212 cash.
He's ready.
He's ready to play tomorrow.

(01:17:21):
Is that real?
There we go.
Wow.
Alright.
I told you.
I mean, stuff happens fast around here.
It does.
It really does.
As soon as you know it, this is gonna be thepodcast studio for Pull Hook Golf.
I mean, my god, things are happening.
Buttsy can sleep right there.
You know, looking
I got a cot right there.
It's perfect.

(01:17:42):
I mean, this is this is such a vibe.
This has been I'll say this has been one of myfavorite episodes.
Oh, by far.
Yeah.
One of my most talkative.
It's one
of my favorite nights, to be honest.
This is unreal that You can feel the You canfeel the energy coming out of this place where
said it to me.
We've made, I mean, we've made a little fun ofit, but it's romantic.
Yeah.

(01:18:02):
That's a word that you used, and that's
You did.
The first time you came up.
Word.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The best word for it.
So it's something you care about, you'repassionate about, and, like, that doesn't
happen in pro golf right now.
It's gonna be dope when people know the namesafter a while, and they're like, what time does
he tee off?
Alright.
Cool.
I'm gonna pop on.
Like, I gotta get home by six because they teeoff.
Yeah.
I mean, like, I gotta catch the coverage.

(01:18:23):
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, soon.
I'm I'm excited to watch Buttsy play tomorrow.
I can't tell you
how excited.
Excited to play, dude.
I'm gonna be emotionally invested in that roundof golf.
Oh, yeah.
And Lois, let's not forget the partner.
His partner.
Can we talk about Yeah.
Let's talk about Buttsy's partner.
He's a fucking riot.
I mean, it's such a good story that him andAndy Carlton met at the skins game last year

(01:18:48):
before the GCO, and I was like, you know what?
I'm gonna buy your guys' qualifiers, but, youknow, you're getting it.
I I believe in you two, and I was right.
But, you know, before the tournament happened,we had the NCAA come down on us and tell eight
college golfers that they can't play.
And so I'm like, okay.
Here we go.
Now we gotta redirect players into franchisesand all stuff.
So I call Andy.

(01:19:08):
I'm like, hey, man.
I I got news for you, man.
You're playing for Canada tonight.
And he's like, yo, Los.
We're playing for Canada.
And I'm
like, you
know, like, hell yeah.
I'll see you in an hour when you show up.
And then I go back in.
I was like, no.
No.
No.
Like, no.
He's playing for Michigan.
Yeah.
I call him back.
I'm like, hey, Andy.
I've got even better news, man.
You're playing for the Michigan auto ace.
He's like, yo, Lois, we're playing forMichigan.

(01:19:30):
They end up qualifying in, and then theyfinish, I guess, one shot off the lead from the
playoff.
They finished 13 under, and Los chunks it on 18when they had a chance to win.
And Andy Carlson steps up and puts it, youknow, 12 feet.
And that was, like, a big moment because it'slike, here's Los, you know, hits a bad shot as

(01:19:52):
we all do on the 18th hole in front ofeveryone.
And Andy Carlson's like, everyone just quietdown real quick.
I got my boy's back.
Yeah.
That's the cool part about two-man scramble,
two-ball.
You can pick somebody up.
Like, you don't have to play a perfect round ofgolf.
You gotta make a lot of birdies, though.
You gotta make a lot of birdies.
Yeah.
And when Carlos missed that putt, I did cry alittle bit in the broadcast booth.

(01:20:13):
So,
that's the only truth.
Do
you wanna talk about quickly before we head offair about how you got into the booth?
Because this is kind of a unique story too.
But you don't have to share all the detailsbehind it unless you want to.
Well, I mean, it's when you do a startup golfleague, you know, it's tough to know all of the

(01:20:33):
information of the people and the players andeverything.
And so the broadcast team comes with theproduction team, and they're all like, okay.
You know, Todd's gonna give us the down low onthe players in the field.
And, you know, we're back here in the greenroom and got my Excel sheet, and I'm like,
okay.
If he plays with him and then, like, 30 minuteslater as I'm doing this, like, complex, you

(01:20:55):
know, Gantt chart, the guy's like Oh, yeah.
We're gonna need you on the broadcast because Idon't know one person in the field.
And so by default, I was asked to.
You're in it.
And so
And your background in school is in media.
Right?
Sports broadcasting.
Yeah.
And so it's obvious.
I jumped, I diverted quickly from sports anddid a fishing documentary where I lived in a

(01:21:15):
trailer traveling around the country for
six months.
It was romantic.
Yeah.
I won't tell you the name of the documentary.
Called.
Yeah.
I can't tonight.
No.
I will too.
Honestly.
Pretty I'm trying to delete the footage off theInternet.
I'm like,
is this gonna play this?
I've been trying to get
on Amazon?
Is it
It's on YouTube and Vimeo, and Vimeo won't callme back because I'm trying to actively delete
that.
But

(01:21:35):
Dude, we
got it.
No.
It's just I'm like you felt like a nerd orwhat?
I feel like I'm in a new stage in life.
I got three kids.
You know?
Yeah.
Yeah.
No.
I understand.
There's nothing bad.
It's just like, what is this guy doing?
Makes you cringe a little bit.
Yeah.
Okay.
So alright.
We don't need to watch.
But you
love that.
I'm definitely watching it.
That sounds awesome.
Alright.

(01:21:56):
Well, there you have it, folks.
That's how Todd Dobson came about and got intothe broadcast booth.
Absolutely phenomenal.
And if you're watching on Peacock on Saturday, you're gonna absolutely love this guy.
You're back in the booth this week, right?
Yeah.
And the booth's actually on the 18th tee boxwith the behind us is where the
We wanted to do it tonight.
Well, I wonder what you guys are gonna dothough if it's super windy.

(01:22:18):
We're, you know, we're gonna batten down thehatches.
It'll work itself out.
Exactly.
Mhmm.
God will stop the wind for the broadcast.
Yeah.
Love that.
I can guarantee that.
Love that.
There we go.
So yeah.
I mean, I love that for you.
I love that for you.
And who knows?
We shall see.
But tomorrow, folks, starting at hang on.
I got the whole schedule here.

(01:22:39):
I'll go back.
I'll redo the rundown once again.
Schedule events for the week because this isnow I feel like the city of Tempe should make
this officially Grass League Week.
I think that would be really cool by the cityof Tempe.
But Wednesday, which is tomorrow, April 30, thequalifier starts at 11 a.m.
and goes until 9 p.m.

(01:24:03):
Pacific time.
headliner is Quinn XCII.
I I I don't know.
I'm so sorry.
If people love him and that that's their dude,I'm so sorry.
I probably know his music.
I'm terrible with names.
He's pretty good.
He's pretty bad.
p.m. to 11:30
to 11:30 p.m.
Yeah.
I know.
No.
I've I've seen, like, the name.
I just have never heard anybody pronounce it.

(01:24:24):
I get hiccups too.
Whenever I see a Roman numeral, I run away.
So I think it's Quinn 92.
Yeah.
Oh god.
Is it 92?
I believe so.
I'll I'll check.
Is that it?
I'll verify the facts.
Wow.
That's fantastic.
Yeah.
Bob, that just hit you out of nowhere.
I love it.
Now that is the entire Grass League open, folks.
Probably Uber here if you're coming.
Yeah.
So I'm gonna I'm
gonna tell you right now, the parkingsituation's gonna be wild, so make sure to grab

(01:24:47):
an Uber or Lyft.
I believe they are both sponsors this week ofthe Pull Hook Golf podcast as well as what's
the what's the one without the drivers?
Oh, Waymo.
Waymo.
Waymo.
Waymo.
Waymo.
Waymo.
shit out of me.
Yep.
I actually prefer them now.
Love them.
They're
great.
They're absolutely fantastic.

(01:25:08):
And you do get recorded while you're in there, which is great.
Yeah.
So I just put on a show.
I'll be in there by myself just like singing myheart out.
Talking to the car.
Yep.
Well, somebody's watching it.
So I'm like, I love you.
I feel like they say it back.
You talk to them through the car.
Yeah.
I'm fine.
I'm normal.
That's it, folks.
That's where we're gonna end it tonight.

(01:25:29):

I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
