Boxing's heavyweight renaissance takes center stage as we unpack three thrilling encounters that showcase the division's exciting present and future. Oleksandr Usyk's masterful performance against Daniel Dubois demonstrates why many consider him potentially the greatest boxer of this generation - his footwork, angles, and newfound power combining to form a complete fighting package at age 38. "This guy literally - you put him in any era, he could stand in there with the greats."

The emergence of 20-year-old Moses Atama provides a glimpse into heavyweight boxing's future, as his stunning two-minute demolition of veteran Dillian White announced his arrival on the big stage. We break down how Atama's relentless pressure and power overwhelmed White from the opening bell, creating the kind of statement performance that instantly elevates a prospect's profile.

For fans of old-school heavyweight slugfests, the Filip Hrgović versus Arlene Adeleye bout delivered primitive excitement with two massive men trading thunderous blows. The eighth round particularly captivated us, featuring a knockdown followed by a dramatic momentum shift that exemplifies why heavyweight boxing at its most raw remains uniquely thrilling.

The super welterweight division gives us something to discuss as Sebastian Fundora dominates Tim Zuu in their rematch, while we also touch on Raymond Ford's creative Tom and Jerry-themed boxing attire and ESPN KO's emergence following the conclusion of their Top Rank partnership.

Looking ahead to September's superfight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford, we examine why this clash between pound-for-pound elites represents a must-watch moment for both hardcore and casual boxing fans. Will you join us next time as we break down what happens when "God versus Allah" meet inside the squared circle?

down the best in boxing with asense of humor.
And now your hosts, fritz andFranco.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Welcome back everybody to this episode of
Punches punchlines joining me.
As always, the guy that doesall the work, one of my best
friends in the world and fellowboxing fanatic, franco campo, is
here to do with us helloeveryone.
Franco, we, we've been away fora little while, but we are uh,
we're not your normal podcasts, you know like we're not trying
to get people in with the video.
We're not your normal podcasts, you know, like we're not trying

(00:44):
to get people in with the video.
We're not trying to send themover to our patreon, we just
we're here to talk boxing andwe've said in the past, when we
have something we're excitedabout, we will talk about it
yeah, we're bad at generatingmoney.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
That's what I'm here.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Yes, yes, yes, we're good at spending money, right
but we are big boxing fans, sowe tried to come back with a
usik dubois episode, but thetiming just wasn't working out.
But we are going to talk aboutit now and a couple other things
.
There's some real joy in theheavyweight division that we get
to talk about.
Then there was some bittersweetin the 154 pound division that

(01:21):
we'll get to talk about and, uh,I don't know whether it's their
new brand, but espn ko had acard this past weekend.
I know that their deal with toprank is over.
Maybe now they just have espnko, so let's talk about that, uh
, briefly, but I'm ready to talksome box yeah, let's go ahead
and, uh, jump right into it.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
I'm all over the place with what I have seen and
haven't seen, so I will be someof them you'll be taking the
lead Some of them I have strongopinions on.
Either way, we do have a lot tocatch up on and fun news.
I am officially, as of thispast weekend, done with my
master's degree, which means nowI can spend all of my free time
watching, boxing and playingvideo games like I'm 12 again,

(02:03):
like I'm a child.
I get to, I get to be a littlekid again.
Oh, it's great.
I'm never going to grow up, I'mgoing to be a child for forever
, but it is nice, like trying todo everything.
Before it was, it wasimpossible and uh, but now, now
I'm ready.
So, yeah, let's go ahead anddive on into it.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
He tells us all the time you can't play boxing.
We prove him wrong everyepisode with our segment called
playing boxing.
We are going to cover a lot ofground here today.
As you might know, this segmentis brought to you by the people
over there at zippix toothpicks.
Go to zippix toothpickscom.
Enter the code boxing franco.
They've changed up our code.
Oh, they still want to beaffiliated with punches and

(02:43):
punchlines, but, uh, they saidthat some random bot was uh
handing out punch 10.
Uh, or maybe our numbers havejust spiked so much that they're
like well, this can't be right.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
You're the only boxing people that want to.
They want to push our brand.
You're all in on punches andpunchlines.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
That's what they said so boxing is your new uh promo
code.
Enter that in at checkout and Ithink you still save 10%.
Maybe they boosted it upbecause we're you know, we're
here for them and they're herefor us.
It's a beautiful marriage.
I want to start with Usyk Dubois, because that was such a joy.
This is this is not hyperboleFranco Alexander Usyk might be

(03:23):
the best boxer I've ever seen.
He's on another level.
It's not just talking crazy.
This guy, literally you put himin any era he could.
I'm not saying he's going tobeat every heavyweight, great,
but he's going to stand in therewith him.
You know what I mean.
He kind of took the Holyfieldpath where, not even kind of.

(03:44):
He took the Holyfield pathwhere he went through
cruiserweight and nobody couldtouch him, all right.
Then moves up to heavyweight.
People kind of took him lightlyuntil he started getting, you
know, just stacking wins andhe's gotten better every time
out as a heavyweight.
It's been incredible to watch.
And the dude, there's not a holein his game, like when he first

(04:06):
stepped up to heavyweight.
You're like, well, he's gonnahave to uh, you know, tire these
guys out because he doesn'thave the knockout power he
proved against dubois.
He's got the knockout power.
It was just such a joy to watchthis dude box that left was
landing on dubois face just atwill.
I mean it was incredible thathe just could not not land you.
You know what I mean.
Like I think DuBois was like, all right, I should put my guard

(04:29):
up on this side.
Oh shit, he still hit me.
You know what I mean?
It was like nothing he did wasstopping that left hand.
It was incredible.
The angles this guy works from.
His footwork is reminiscent ofLomachenko.
Like I don't know if you'veever watched an Usyk workout
video where he does it to musicand you can see it's all
legitimate boxing moves, butit's done to music and the dude

(04:53):
moves like a gazelle, like sograceful.
And now that he's bringing thispower to like he's a complete
fighter and, like I said, it'snot hyperbole, franco, to say
that he might be one of the bestI've ever seen in my life first
of all, I don't know if youknew this fun fact about usic
that's how he fights therussians too.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
They send him out onto the front line and a tutu
though, and he just dances andmurders all of them like
something out of a tarantinomovie.
It's, it's pretty great.
Uh, you know, I put usic in thesame category as triple g,
where I feel bad, like had hebeen born somewhere else.
First of all, he probablywouldn't be the complete monster

(05:32):
that he is.
You know, he'd have some kindof privileged life and grow up
in like oaklawn or somethingshitty, but instead he grew up
in in ukraine and he's amazingbut but but he's old, like he's
38.
And same thing kind of happenedwith triple G, where it's like
it's time to give him hisflowers, it's time to put them
up on the big stage and he'sjust been on like murderers road

(05:54):
just trying to take out all thebest guys that he could.
Had he been born somewhere elseand still had those skills, we
would be talking about him in acompletely different light.
We would be talking about himbeing just a straight up one of
the best of all time, butbecause it kind of came on late,
it's hard to tell.
Now I will say this he's theone that kind of screwed up the

(06:17):
entire Tyson Fury Bronze Bomber, like all those guys kind of
lining up.
He came in and just wrecked andeverybody that he's faced he
beat uh.
He beat tyson fury twice.
He beat uh.
Aj, now he's beat dubois likeaj twice yeah, dubois twice.
It's like.
It's amazing, it's sick.

(06:37):
He's beating the best of thebest and dominating.
It is awesome, he is like uh,but for what you're saying?

Speaker 2 (06:46):
those were the pretty girls for a long time it was.
Yeah, you know aj and wilder, you know fury.
They were the click of thethree mean girls at school.
And then here comes thistransfer student in for just a
senior year and she's hotterthan all of them combined takes
on the whole football team, youknow exactly.

(07:06):
It's incredible.
If any of you guys are takingnotes, write this down.
There's three things of joy.
You can get in the heavyweightdivision that we're going to
talk about this episode.
Watch usic versus dubois too.
You can get the highlightsanywhere on youtube or wherever.
Just such a joy to watch.
And and if you hate your liverevery time Usyk lands like a

(07:27):
powerful left, you know, take ashot of whiskey, all right, see
whether you can survive watchingeven half the highlights.
The other one that I'll mentionis the card from just this past
weekend Dillian White versusMoses Otauma.
This kid is 20, just so, soskilled, and this was his first

(07:48):
big step up.
You can watch that whole, thiswhole fight, because it doesn't
last very long.
All right, this kid was comingin to make a statement and
statement made all right.
Yeah, now dillian white as faras boxers go, like I get it that
he's good, but he's like theDavid Hasselhoff of boxers.
All right, because big inGermany, he's huge in Europe and

(08:12):
nobody in the United Statescares.
Or maybe Robbie Williams is thebest example.
You know, like, huge in theUnited Kingdom, came over here
and nobody knows who he is orcares.
They're like are you alanthick's kid?
He's like no, no, I'm robbiewilliams and, uh, I'm gonna make
a movie where I'm a monkey.

(08:33):
It's not gonna make any sense, but it doesn't have to.
I'm popular over there.
So that's how I feel aboutdillian white.
There is plenty of fights wheredillian white if you've heard me
talk about it before he, Ithink started making contracts
where it's like all right, youcan't uppercut me.
You know like that's an illegalpunch because.
But vetkin knocked him out withan uppercut, fairy knocked him

(08:54):
out with an uppercut, aj knockedhim out with an uppercut.
It was like his absoluteachilles heel, but he wore it
right on his face and he was thewbc silver champion for years.
You know where him and deontaywilder were supposed to fight,
but they never happened.
Wilder wanted a part of it,maybe because he failed drug
tests and took peds, I don'tknow.

(09:16):
But either way, moses atama, this was a real test for him and
, dude, it didn't even take afull two minutes for him to
knock him out.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
It was so great it was like legitimate bullying,
like the amount of punches thathe was landing without having
white throw anything back.
I'm surprised it wasn't stopped.
Like you sent it to me before Icould watch it, like throwing
it on TV or anything.
So I just I watched it on myphone and my first thought was,
oh, the ref is going to stop it.
Oh, the ref is going to.

(09:46):
Oh, my God, but I get it.
It was so early in the fight, how could you stop it?
Like you're?
Like.
You know, people paid theirmoney to see a show, they're
going to get a show, and theyended up just seeing a massacre
before he got knocked out.
Ref waved it off and that wasthat was it.
But holy crap, did Itama make astatement, came in blazing, and

(10:09):
this is kind of the opposite ofwhat I was saying with Usyk.
It's cool because he's young,like he's only 20.
We got some time.
Hopefully we can, we can seemore.
I liked it, it was great, it'sexciting.
I love a fast fight, as much asthere is to be said for the,
the science of boxing, the sweetscience, and oh, look at how we

(10:30):
break down everything to likemilliseconds.
It's fun just to see somebodyget the shit kicked out of them
right out the gate and that'sthat's kind of what this was.
He just came out blazing andand it was fun and hopefully he
keeps it.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
He keeps the party going I think you described kind
of the beauty of the sport thatwe love is that it's supposed
to go.
You know, 12 rounds, six rounds, but it can end at any second.
You know what I mean.
Like in the first couple.
No, not that quick, butliterally we've seen guys that
you know, quote unquote, don'thave big punching power or

(11:05):
whatever, but they land that bigshot Our guy from France when
he knocked out jaime munguia.
You know like those things canhappen and that's why it's kind
of the edge of your seat.
Sport you're not guaranteed, you know like in a football game
, to get your full 60 minutes.
You're not guaranteed to getnine innings.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
You know like, yeah, it could be over at any second
well, and the nice thing withthis is, for anybody that didn't
watch it, don't feel bad, because this one was a
pay-per-view.
Like this was on his own.
Um, as a pay-per-view.
Imagine, imagine paying money.
You're like all right, I'mgonna pause, I'm gonna run to
the bathroom real quick.
You didn't have to pause it.
You could have just watched itand then gone to the bathroom

(11:46):
afterwards.
It was so freaking fast, I willsay it kind of reminds me of
like when I was a kid and my dadwould be all excited to get
like a Mike Tyson fight and thenit would be over in 30 seconds
and he's like ah, like why did Ipay money for this?
Because it was just so fast, but you still get to see the
show.
Luckily, it's the future, it's2025, youtube and a million

(12:08):
other streaming services exist, and so we get to watch that part
for free, especially when it'sdone as fast as this one was
yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
And just to round out , I said that there'd be three
heavyweight gems that you got towatch out.
Now this one, philip porgovicversus adelaide, I think, is how
you say the dude's last name.
This was on the undercard ofUsyk versus or, I'm sorry, not
Usyk versus White, atama versusWhite.
Okay, and it was not prettyFranco, but it was just two

(12:41):
giant dudes slugging it out and,you know, blocking punches with
their face and just realhaymakers just landing with
giant thuds, like if you watcheven just the highlights,
they'll show you the eighthround.
All right, philip Korgovichscores a beautiful knockdown and
now there's two minutes left inthe round.
So you're thinking, oh shit,he's going to finish this guy

(13:03):
off.
But he tries to unload andempties the tank in the next 20
or 30 seconds and then is barelybarely on his feet at the end
of the eighth round, becauseAdelaide was just landed bombs
of his own, and we're like, oh,is this going to be an eight,
eight rounds, like what's goingon here?
It was so fun to just watch asilly heavyweight boxing where

(13:25):
it's was the skill the best.
No, but they were just landingwith these giant lunchbox hands
and just two giant men justpouring it all out Empty in the
tank.
It was fun.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
It reminds me of a Rocky movie.
They like swing reallyexaggeratedly and fall into the
ropes and both guys are justlaunching really wound up
punches, big, exaggeratedpunches.
And you're thinking, in reallife, any of these would knock a
person out.
But this, this was real life.
And, yeah, after that knockout,I actually thought at one point
that the ref might stop itbecause Herkovich was getting

(14:00):
his ass whooped Like he was notfighting back.
I was like you don't want tosay he got overconfident,
because they're just, you knowit was a good fight.
But yeah, uh, I'm glad that itwent the distance and that no
one guy got caught by just onerandom punch.
Uh, hergovic ends up taking it.
Good, but also, holy crap, likegood for him for having a chin

(14:22):
just made.
I don't know what deal he madewith the devil to like, oh yeah,
you'll be able to take punches, but it'll feel like a child
hitting you.
Uh, that's obviously the dealthat he had, because, you know,
monkey, par, whatever, wasmaking wishes.
It's, it's ridiculous, it's.
It's one of those things wherethey're probably both going to
be looking back on it later inlife and be like oh, this is why

(14:43):
I have to have my food insmoothie form was that one fight
um back in 2025, but yeah, no,still fun though, and on that
card as well, raymond fordversus nova.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
Our guy supernova was on this card okay, I did not
see this one, all right, and hewas there with his mascot and
everything and the only.
The fight was just good, allright, okay.
Um, the only reason I evenwanted to mention it is because
Raymond Ford came out with Tomand Jerry boxing shorts.

Speaker 1 (15:14):
Oh, no All right, I'm .
Googling it right now.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
Turkey said after the Canelo fight that he wants
actual fights.
Oh yeah, not this Tom and Jerrynonsense.
So I thought that that was kindof a funny way to come out with
Tom and Jerry shorts.
It was a good boxing match.
Nova was in a lot of the fight, but it was.
It was, I think, a 10 roundfight that if nova won a round
it would be like one or tworounds it was.

(15:39):
They were all good rounds, butnothing where nova you thought
was gonna win it.
So, uh, it was a good showingby raymond ford.
I thought the shorts were kindof funny so that's why I wanted
to bring that one up.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
I'm watching the shorts right now.
I don't know if anybody outthere remembers these.
I don't know if you rememberthese.
I always like if I could findone.
If anybody knows where to buyone of these, let me know,
because they were a part of mychildhood that I didn't get to
have because we were too poor.
But do you remember back in theday they would sell them at

(16:16):
like the swapperama, like at theflea market and stuff?
They were jackets that weremade out of like beach towels,
okay, and it would be like youknow, looney tunes or whatever,
but the material was basicallylike a beach towel material.
They would put some kind of aliner to make it thicker.
That's what his shorts looklike.
It looks like the old 90s, likeyou know.
They'd have the t-shirt of thetasmanian devil and bugs bunny
looking like crisscross withtheir stuff on backwards, and
then these shorts would havebeen right next to that, hanging

(16:39):
up in the swapperama.
Holy shit, sorry, it's just cutto where they're saying the
scores.
He has a matching jacket thatis awesome.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
There's glitter on it , yeah this is great.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
I love this.
Um, if you're gonna commit tothe bit, just commit to it.
You know, yeah, holy crap, hewent all in and they put the
everlast logo on there to justto make it official.
Ever last right.
Really, the only thing I'mbummed did did nova have his
mascot?
Yes yeah supernova was therewith them uh, I had some sweet
dance moves.
I hate when he loses with him.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
I know it's, yeah, it's almost humiliating, uh, but
he's got.
He's got a thing.
You got to stick with it, yeahI guess so.
And then nick ball versus Ithink it was brian goodman was
the co-main event on atamaversus white.
That was a good fight and nickball, like his nickname, is the

(17:31):
Wrecking Ball.
I get it Like he's just ascrappy little dude that I just
picture.
Most of the kids from likeBridgeport this is that would be
Nick Ball.
You know what I mean?
Like just mad that he's fivefoot four, you know.
And I'm streaking, I'm gettingclose to it, Chris.
So, he got jacked and now he cantake a punch and deliver a

(17:52):
punch, but a fun fighter towatch.
It wasn't his best performanceand even he said that afterwards
, but he kept his title andthat's always, uh, a beautiful
thing one of the other, but Iguess, yeah, let's talk about
espn last, because I want to getthe kind of the bittersweet out
of the way too real quick.
Pandora versus Zoo, too, wasnot the joy that I thought it

(18:16):
was going to be.
Now I was hoping.
I like both fighters, all right, so I was hoping for whoever
won to just be, you know, aclassic like the first one was,
or just a good fight.
This was not a Tim Zhu.
As a guy that is a fan of TimZhu, he needs to take a break.
All right, this is not the sameTim Zhu we saw going into the

(18:37):
first Pandora fight.
It's not the same dude that wesaw who took two losses in a row
when he jumped right back inafter losing to Pandora for
another title shot.
This is what I think came aftergetting two kind of beat downs.
He is still a good fighter, buthe needs to take a little break
and see whether he can workhimself back up to a world-class

(18:59):
level because Pandora wasmaking easy work of it.
What Zou used to have, as far asyou know, the ability to come
forward and not get lit up onthe way in is gone.
Like every time he was comingforward, he was eating shots on
the way in is gone.
Like every time he was comingforward, he was eating shots on
his way in.
I didn't think I'd ever see aversion of Tim zoo that in his
corner just said I'm done, andthat's exactly what we saw.

(19:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
It.
It's kind of sad.
But also, sebastian Fundora isback.
Baby, like I love watchingSebastian Fundora.
Every once in a while a boxercomes around where we're just
watching the opening fights, thelower parts of the card, and
then somebody comes up and itcatches our attention and we've
said it before puts the fun inFandora.
He's all of 10 feet tall andweighs only 60 pounds.

(19:45):
He's Slenderman.
He's just this freak of naturetall, super skinny, but also
strong and fast.
On top of that.
I don't know if you heard he'sgoing to harvard what I did not.
He is a boxer who's gonna be aharvard student, is a hundred
feet tall and only weighs fivepounds.
It's gonna be awesome.
Like, imagine you've struggledso hard in your life to get good

(20:08):
grades, to do everything rightto to you know, make sure that
you're studying, and then somedude that's a boxer that gets
punched in the face for a livingis in the same class as you.
I'd be like what?
Why was I even trying?
What?
What is happening right now?
But uh, I love sebastian fundoraand it did kind of bum me out
because I do like he didn't lookright, like the punches were

(20:32):
connecting, but I think I don'tknow if it's because Fandora is
so freaky looking that like itdoesn't look like the punches
are connecting with as muchpower.
But I I've seen Tim zoo takemore and be able to weather it,
and he was not.
He was not weathering anything,he just he looked defeated
early.
He looked defeated out the gate, caught a couple of bad punches

(20:55):
and kind of wasn't into it.
Almost like when you go outdrinking when you're older and
you have like a second shot, youknow like maybe your buddy
makes you drink a car bomb thatyou don't really want, and then
you're like no buddy makes youdrink a car bomb that you don't
really want, yeah, and thenyou're like no, no I don't want
any part of this anymore.
I'm tapping out.
That's what tim zoo looked like, like it hit him and he's like
I used to like this.

(21:15):
I don't like this anymore.
Yeah, it's kind of a bummeryeah, it wasn't the.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
It wasn't the best, but it was fun to see fandora do
well and, like you said, zoowasn't landing with what he was
landing in the first fight, thatbloody mess, even you know, you
could say maybe it was justlooking different on Fandora.
It looked different than thefirst fight against Fandora.
So you know what I mean.
The proof is right there infront of us Now.

(21:40):
I wanted to close with thisFranco.
Now ESPN had a fight onSaturday night.
It was supposed to be AndrewMaloney versus I forget.
It doesn't really matter.
But they delayed it like threedifferent times and then he kept
agreeing to the changes untilthey moved it to Mexico City,
where the other opponent wasfrom, and he's like, yeah,

(22:01):
that's a bridge too far, I'vemoved the date three times for
you.
I've agreed to two differentlocations.
I'm not going to this kid'sbackyard.
So he pulled out of the fight.
I watched some of it.
It was just very okay, nothingworth going.
But what I wanted to note isESPN for years has had top rank,
and this was not top rank onESPN, this was ESPN KO on ESPN.

(22:24):
Now it was on ESPN plus and itwas only broadcast in Spanish,
and even at that, I enjoyed thecommentary way better than Joe
Tessitore.
All right, like I was.
Like I have no idea whatthey're saying, but they know
how to control their volume and,uh, they're not just repeating
the headliners name every othersecond.

(22:45):
So, uh, I did enjoy the Spanishbroadcast.
I didn't understand much of it.
I just waited for him to belike oh Boca, he got punched in
the mouth.
Okay, there we go.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
I don't think anybody in the history of any kind of
Spanish announcing or Mexicanannouncing has ever said that
they have volume control.
Usually they're screaming forevery word.
It might be the first timeanybody has ever said that.

Speaker 2 (23:12):
That was.
That was for emphasis.
You know what I mean.
I wanted to make my pointagainst our buddy Joe.
But yeah, besides that, franco, what we got coming up, we have,
we have a lot of, we have a lotof American football coming up
and I'm looking forward to that.
But beside that, I think we'llbe back to cover Canelo versus
Crawford on September 13th.

(23:33):
That'll be the next big card.

both of them keep saying no,that's the best other fighter,
like besides me, that's theother dude.
And at their weight class, itis like this is two titans
clashing.
It's it's must see tv for sure.
