As I stand at the intersection of heartfelt gratitude and poignant closure, I can't help but reflect on the myriad of voices and perspectives that have graced this podcast. Over the span of two years and 43 episodes, I've had the honor of conversing with a tapestry of brilliant minds—scholars, writers, and medical professionals among them. Each conversation was a thread in the rich quilt of knowledge we've woven together, and as your host,  it's a quilt I'll treasure long after the microphone goes silent.

This final episode is a candid look at the podcasting journey, beset with the challenges of standing out in an ocean of content and the bittersweet realization of when to draw the curtain. As I share my experiences and the factors leading to this farewell, I am reminded that every ending is also a commencement. With T.S. Eliot's poetic wisdom as a beacon,  “What we call the beginning is often the end. And to make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from.” I invite you to join me one last time as I express my deepest thanks to all who have journeyed with us—your companionship has been a gift beyond measure. Though this is my last podcast episode, the quest for knowledge and boundary-pushing continues in my writings, and I encourage you to join me there.

Thomas R Verny MD (00:03):
Hello, as you probably know, I'm Dr Thomas R
and Verny, and I'm here to tellyou that after two years and 43
episodes of podcasting, I am,with much sadness, ending this
podcast.
I enjoyed meeting and talkingto some very interesting and

(00:28):
highly accomplished scholars, writers, medical doctors and
many others.
The time investment wasconsiderable and, in my case,
the results in terms of thenumber of listeners and viewers
were rather disappointing.
Part of the problem is the factthat the competition in the
podcasting universe is reallyfierce.

(00:51):
Virtually every newspaper, magazine or radio station has a
podcast, and then there arethousands of individual
podcasters.
At present, there are hundredsof thousands of podcasts
available in North America, manyof them with really deep

(01:13):
pockets, aggressivelyadvertising their offerings.
Of course, I was not in aposition to do that.
Also, for the majority ofpodcasters, this is their sole
job and primary source of income.

(01:35):
Not so for me.
I have many other interests.
Finally, most podcasts tend toset up a community, promote a
community of dedicated listenersand subscribers.
They organize chat rooms, correspond with their listeners,

(01:58):
even send gifts to them.
Again, not something I wasprepared to do.
Consequently, I want to thankyou all, past guests and
listeners, for joining me inthis quixotic enterprise.
I shall continue to pushboundaries in my writings, but

(02:20):
not on this podcast.
I'm reminded here of TS Eliotwriting in his poem the Little
Gidding, "what we call thebeginning is often the end, and
to make an end is to make abeginning.
The end is where we start from.
So that's where I am at thismoment and, once again, thank

(02:46):
you and goodbye.
