PCHS Sophomore Student Government Council. This is season 4 episode 9 of the Putnam Proud Podcast.

The Class of 2027 Student Government Council is poised for excellence as they begin the year with a new team of officers and members eager to make a difference. Their enthusiasm was evident in their first major philanthropy event, a supply drive for the victims of Hurricane Helene. The drive was a resounding success, collecting over 100 cases of water, gas cans, diapers, pipes, and non-perishable food items.   In addition to their philanthropic efforts, the officers engaged in valuable learning experiences at the Putnam County Courthouse and the Georgia State Capitol. These visits provided them with insights into the workings of local and state government.   Looking ahead, the Class of 2027 is planning an exciting trip to Washington, D.C. this spring, promising more opportunities for growth and learning. The future looks bright for these dedicated students as they continue to make a positive impact in their community. Please contact sponsors Mrs. April Smith, Mrs. Kim Schell or Lieutenant Colonel Adkinson for more information.   Thanks for listening.

Stuff You Should Know
Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
