Make your show notes useful - write as much as you can (This bit you're reading now is your show notes, btw.). Preferably about 300 words per episode, which seems like quite a lot, but you can always have a good chunk of that be your boilerplate, that is to say, the same on every episode, just copy & pasted form a word doc. A pet peeve mostly, this one, but there's a learning behind it: Edit your audio properly, out of respect for your audience and their time. Don't leave stuff in because it makes you sound 'scrappy' or 'rolling with whatever happens'.

Using any amount of commercial music isn't worth the risk to your podcast as a whole. Not even a little tiny snippet. Instead, use PodSafe music (music that's Safe for Podcasts).
Or pay a musician to create something bespoke. Either way, don't try to get away with using a Kylie song as your opening music.

Stick to the point of your podcast as much as you can - and don't confuse your podcast's audience with people who are keen to hear about every aspect of your life. Get out of your own way, and make the podcast you're supposed to be making.

Respect your audience enough to not fill their earholes with drivel. If deadline day is fast approaching and you have nothing to say, say nothing. Simple, really.

The distance between thinking about the thing and doing the thing should always be as short as possible. Anything that gets in the way is likely to stop you forming the habits and the good practise that you want. So, keep your equipment together, keep it set up if you can, and find ways to ensure that the journey from "I should record an episode now" to pressing Record is as short and effortless as possible.
