Nick (00:01):
1997.
Welcome to quantum recast.
(00:34):
I am your host for the day.
Nick uh cory is apparently offsomewhere.
He said something about goingto 1973 to stop some future
potential disaster.
I don't know anyway, but healso said something about that.
He didn't like x-men but, andso left it to me and I just said
, okay, but I am joined today byali dale.
How are you?
Aly (00:52):
hello, I'm doing well.
How are you?
Nick (00:53):
doing good and across not
the pond, but across the united
states.
We have cas over here.
How are you?
I'm good welcome welcome back, welcome back everyone.
Yes, uh, we are doing a kind ofa mini, so to special mini sort
of sorts.
Obviously, if you clicked onthis episode, you know that we
are going to touch on the X-Menand what.
Because Marvel bought the X-Menback with Disney money men
(01:24):
movies again and we're like yes,so we are going to play a
little bit of prediction here.
We're going to try to guess whowill be playing the x-men in a
2026, 2027, 26, you know 1997 to2027.
Just, it's again, I like theround numbers it rolls off the
tongue easier.
I've noticed that but so we'renot saying it.
It's gonna happen in 2027.
I don't think they've actuallyset a proper date for it yet,
but that's the idea.
(01:44):
We're gonna take the heat goingto happen in 2027.
I don't think they've actuallyset a proper date for it yet,
but that's the idea.
We're going to take the heat, the stars of today and put them
in the cast of tomorrow.
Cass (01:50):
If you will.
Nick (01:51):
All right.
Anyway, if you are new to theshow, if you've never been here
before, this is what we do.
We take movies and move themforwards and backwards, and now,
super forwards in time time, werecast them with a new cast.
Um, if you have enjoyed theshow after this, you can follow
us on all the social medias atquantum recast.
We're on tiktok, we're oninstagram, facebook, uh, twitter
(02:11):
, x, whatever you want to callit.
If you're still there, we arestill there too, the one sane
voice in a sea of madness.
But anyway, um, we're going tojust dive right in, because we
have a lot of x-Men to cover.
Yes, we do.
If you've been living under arock for the past 20, 30, 40, 50
years, you don't know what theX-Men is.
I'm going to try to give you abullet point.
(02:32):
If you're looking for a deepdive into X-Men, this is not
that podcast, I apologize.
I'm sure there is a greatYouTube video somewhere or a
podcast that somebody will loveto tell you all about it, but
X-Men was created bywriter-editor Stan Lee, of
course, and artist co-plotterJack Kirby.
The team first appeared in theX-Men no 1 in September of 1963.
(02:52):
They were basically createdbecause of the success of
Spider-Man, hulk Thor, iron manand Fantastic Four.
Basically, he wanted to createanother group of superheroes,
but he just was lazy and didn'twant to have to explain how they
got their power.
So he group of superheroes, buthe just was lazy and didn't
have to explain how they gottheir power.
So he just said, what if theywere born with it?
I mean, it works, it works, um,but it didn't initially, so it
(03:12):
didn't do super well sales wise.
It was initially canceled in1970 due to low sales and
following its 1975 revival ofthe direction under chris
claremont, it became one ofmarvel's most recognizable and
successful franchises.
Chris is really the one whokind of made what we know as
X-Men today, made all thechanges.
A lot of the main storylinesyour Dark Phoenixes, days of
Future Past come from his run inthe 80s and 90s.
(03:34):
Pretty much oh interesting, andfrom there you know they've
appeared in numerous books, television shows, obviously the
movies and video games.
The team X-Men may refer to theteam itself, but there's also
just tons of spin-offs and stuff.
Specifically, uh, the animatedseries was released in 92 and it
ran till 97 and it was on fox'sfox kid programming block, you
(03:56):
know, back when they hadsaturday morning cartoons and it
was cool and everything wasgreat and that really, like you
know, we we talk about iron manand thor and captain America.
That's the MCU.
Back then nobody gave a crap, nobody cared who they were.
It was all about the X-Men.
Specifically, your Holy Trinitywas Wolverine, spider-man and
Hulk in the 90s.
But the X-Men were just thatother cool team.
(04:16):
They had the video games, theyhad this TV show which really
helped bolster, I think, a lotof 90s millennial kids' love for
the characters and obviously90s millennial kids love for
this, for the characters, andobviously it ran through 97 and
I think that's what helped buildthe ability for them to make a
movie, because fox 20th centuryfox, now owned by disney
overlords uh attained the filmrights to the team and other
characters in 94 for 2.6 milliona bargain, oh, wow yeah
(04:39):
remember, remember before themcu was, the mcu marvel was
going bankrupt and they wereselling off characters.
So not a thing, not a thing.
But uh, brian singer, aquestionable, potentially
redacted name.
He's known for directing theusual suspects, but he was hired
and did the first film in 2000and its sequel in 2003 and the
x-men movie series, I would say,has a lot of highs and lows.
(05:02):
Um, if you guys would agree, you know you, for for those
first two, you have the laststand and wolverine origins, and
then you get wolverine, whichwas okay, you get logan, which
was phenomenal, and then theyhad their spinoff uh prequel
series, kind of with first classand days of future past, which
kind of blended the two uhfranchises together yeah um,
it's just, it's spawned offmultiple films, multiple
(05:23):
spinoffffs of Wolverine Deadpoolis technically considered a
spinoff of this world because hewas a 20th Century Fox
character at the time and it allculminated or I would say
crashed and burned, if you willwith the last two movies,
apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.
And then the standalone NewMutants concluded the series
after a 20 year run.
Yeah, so five years later,x-men 97 comes out.
Everybody's like, oh yeah, thisis what we love about X-Men.
(05:45):
And then everybody's like, cool, thumbs up, let's make some
more X-Men.
And I think we've got therights back and everything.
So before we dive super into it, I just want to ask you guys
what was your first experiencewith the X-Men?
We're all different age levelshere, so I'm just curious when
you saw it, what you saw, whatwas your content?
Aly (06:01):
so for me it was, uh,
definitely the x-men movie.
In 2000, apparently, mybrothers watched the animated
series but.
I do not remember that at allyeah um, but yeah, I remember
going to the theater to watchthe first x-men.
Um, I think I've seen all ofthem in theaters until nice,
until apocalypse, I think that'safter that.
It was like I don't know if Iwant to pay money to see these,
(06:22):
but uh, yeah, no, I recentlyrewatched X-Men and X2, which I
think it was my second timeseeing X-Men, because I did not
remember it at all.
But X2, I remembered quite abit, but yeah, that was my first
experience with the X-Men.
Nick (06:34):
Yeah, so, cass, what about
you?
Cass (06:36):
For me, it was something
that my brother, my older
brother, would watch, and I'dseen it in the background, but I
didn't start watching it forthe first time until maybe like
2018, 2019 okay um, and my main,or maybe 2020, but my main
reason was for Iceman, who wasplayed by Sean Ashmore, because
I saw that he was in it.
But then after that, I was like, wait a minute, I actually do
(06:59):
enjoy these movies.
It has nothing to do with hissmall character in the three uh,
first movies and then days offuture past, but no, that was
the first time I ever watchedthem and I watched them all in
order.
I made sure to like buy everymovie or watch it on disney plus
prime you dove in, okay, I did.
The only thing that I didn't endup seeing was the new mutants,
but everything else I did makesure to watch, but no, that was
(07:22):
the first time I've watched them.
Nick (07:23):
New Mutants kind of feels
like the forgotten stepchild,
redhead stepchild like the shipwas already sinking, it had been
delayed so many times, and itactually has a lot of stars
we're actually discussing, likeAnya Taylor-Joy's in it, maisie
Williams, the guy who playsJonathan from Stranger Things
yeah, charlie Heaton yeah, charlie Heaton, but I think it
was meant to be a reboot ofsorts kind of spin-off, but by
(07:45):
then everybody's like, uh, it'sover and disney's bought us
anyway, so uh, that that's whereI think I why I didn't watch it
, because I was like, what morecan you do?
Cass (07:52):
like I felt like logan
ended it perfectly and then you
had, like you know, apocalypsedark phoenix.
And then I just felt like darkphoenix was kind of confusing to
begin with, so I was like itended there.
Why did we need the new mutants?
Nick (08:03):
sure, yeah, I think the
x-men movies you can definitely
kind of pick and choose whichones you want to consider canon
or you want to watch likere-watching.
I watched one and two and daysof future past leading up and
then x-men 97 obviously.
But I was very much like youknow.
Other than a few kind ofquestions I would have in days
of future past, this feels likea much better trilogy, if you
will yeah, those are fun movies.
Aly (08:25):
I really enjoy the, the
first class and and days of
future past right, yeah, firstclass, yeah, I enjoy both of
those.
Nick (08:30):
Those are fun yeah, my
experience, like obviously grew
up in the 90s I was aware ofx-men again, my very sheltered
upbringing.
I I don't think I wasn'tallowed to watch them, but I
just assumed I was because theywere that cool.
I was like I'm probably notgonna be allowed to watch this,
but I was aware of them.
I was very much like the supernintendo psychogenesis games and
stuff at the time the tv show.
(08:51):
So when, when x-men the moviecame out, I was like this is
cool, like my uncle actuallyconvinced my dad to take us to
go watch it in theaters and it'sprobably one of my first like
live action movies I saw intheaters.
That was pg13 and up.
Cass (09:04):
Oh, that's cool.
Nick (09:05):
Big experience for young
Nick back in 2000.
Aly (09:07):
Understandable.
Nick (09:08):
Understandably so.
But anyway, like I said, we'vegot a lot of X-Men to cast.
I'm sorry we can't cast all 100plus of these.
It's like Pokemon, there's toomany, can't collect them all,
sadly.
But the goal here again is tocast them as if they're going to
make when they make the movie, and we're kind of leaning more
towards the idea that they'regonna lean into, like the 97
(09:32):
comic book accuracy of thecharacters.
Right, because when x-men 2000came out it was in a time you
know, blade to come out twoyears before and it kind of
shown like okay, there's someinterest, there's some success
that can be made with thesecomic book movies, because it
was very hit and miss beforethat for every batman and
superman you had just a spill ofmovies that just were not
successful at all and it kind ofstarted that first wave of
(09:53):
comic books with spider-man,x-men, the blade movies, even
hellboy can kind of get throwninto that mix as well.
the fantastic four movies um,they're likable in their own way
but they're not, not they'renot, they're not top tier by any
means, but that was the firstway before we got you know, iron
man started things off and thedark night kind of transitioned
us between those two eras.
Cass (10:12):
Yeah.
Nick (10:13):
So, yes, it's a dream cast
episode.
We're not completely adheringto our rules because we don't
know what movies people aregoing to be involved in in the
next two or three years.
But we're doing our best to tryto not just be fan casty about
it, where we're just throwing alisters at you and being like
this is who I think should beand it's like, but they're not
going to play the smaller role,a big cast kind of thing.
I'm saying that maybe cast andally actually did go that far
(10:36):
and are just like throwingeverybody at the wall I just I
had fun with mine yeah I had funwith mine.
Aly (10:41):
I I'm yeah, I had a Cool
cool cool.
Nick (10:43):
So, yes, we're moving to
2027, we'll say they probably
will announce it.
It might be later, it might besooner, but that's what we're
going to go with.
So we're casting with peoplethat are popular right now, that
are acting right now.
That's your general rules.
Luckily, we have no kids in themovie.
We have a potential teenager ortwo maybe maybe, and from there
it's all free game, basically.
But yeah, because there's somany, because we're trying to
(11:06):
keep this light and brief foryou guys as a mini, so we're
just going to dive right in andwe're just going to start off at
the top and, like I said, there's tons of x-men.
So we're actually start.
Each of us have chosen an x-man.
Initially I said pick whateverx-men you want and we're going
to cast them.
Each of us will cast one.
But, uh, each of us are castinga different one.
So I'm gonna flip an imaginarythree-sided coin and cast.
(11:27):
You're gonna go first.
So tell me which x-men did youchoose to cast for the open
round?
Cass (11:33):
so I picked ice man just
because of the fact that he is
the one that I did lean more, more towards when I first
watched these movies and Ithought it would be kind of fun,
because I really actually didlike his character.
I wish that he had more and.
Aly (11:45):
I feel like.
Cass (11:46):
Days of Future Past.
Like actually did like a bitwith him, like in the beginning
and then helping with Wolverineand stuff.
Nick (11:52):
But I honestly forgot he
was in Days of Future Past and I
was like oh, sean Ashmore'sthere, that's cool.
So Iceman also his real name, bobby Drake from Long Island,
new York, in the comics.
Uh, the voice actor DennisAkiyama voiced him in the old
X-Men series, but he's played bySean Ashmore in the first two
or three X-Men movies in Days ofFuture Past.
This guy, in case you didn'tfigure it out, he has the
(12:13):
ability to manipulate ice andcoal by freezing water vapor
around him, freeze objects aswell as cover his body with ice.
Cass (12:19):
Like his first movie when
he did the Frozen Rose.
Aly (12:22):
That was so cute.
Nick (12:26):
When Wolverine comes in
and then second one is just like
hey, uh, can you?
First he's like you got anybeer here.
He's like it's a school dude.
So he just gets a soda pop andhas him, has him freeze it,
freeze it for him.
But uh, ice man's personalityin the comics, uh, he's.
They say.
One of ice men's bestpronounced personality traits is
that he is kind of like the icehe manipulates.
He's not cold, but he'stransparent.
He's devastatingly honest.
(12:47):
He's very upfront with hisemotions and his thoughts all
the time.
I feel like Sean did a decentjob, kind of conveying that,
given the limited capacity ofhis role in the movies.
Yeah, that is kind of.
The one issue with the X-Menmovies is it is very much an
ensemble comic, it's a teamthing.
But very clearly as we gofurther into the movies this
becomes the.
(13:07):
Wolverine show?
Yeah, absolutely, and so a lotof characters kind of fall to
the shadows because of it.
But we get little glimpses withlovable, fun characters like
this.
Cass (13:16):
Well, I think that's why
it's hard making the movies,
because you only get to see somany characters.
That's why you said with Wolver, wolverine and even like
Magneto, professor X, likeyou're just seeing these
characters a lot.
So then when you have smallercharacters like Iceman, maybe
even like Nightcrawler or anyoneelse, like it's just kind of
you only get them for fiveminutes and then you're on to
like Wolverine for the next 20minutes.
Nick (13:35):
Right, yeah, and I mean
that's just that just happens.
It's you have your main cast, your main people, and then you
have the supporting cast.
It's just that with superheromovies, with x-men, you're gonna
have a lot of very interestingcharacters.
They all have their ownsuperpowers and stuff.
It is what it is.
Yeah, um shot ashmore you don'tknow who he is, he really.
This was kind of his big comingout uh movie.
Before that he had appeared inanamorphs, if you know what that
(13:57):
is, from the 90s.
Oh man, later on he's in thedisney channel movie cadet kelly
so good.
And recently he's just poppedup in TV shows and stuff and
done some voice work like inAlan Wake to the video game.
Cass (14:08):
Oh, interesting.
And and man of Medan.
Let's not, I will fight Ever Ifwe didn't mention that one.
Okay, and that one too, andthat one too.
Nick (14:17):
I'm, I'm.
How could I forget?
Cass (14:28):
Yeah, that old thing, that
old, that old gym.
Okay, cass, who is your ice man?
So I went kind of a fun pick Ithis is what I was mentioning to
nick the other or yesterday, um, that I was going to pick a
supernatural actor, but I thinkit's just because I don't see
him.
It's not a, it's not a bigactor.
He has been in a few movieslike edge of 17 and a couple of
like little horror movies.
Not a lot of people would knowthem but he plays as Jack Klein
(14:49):
in Supernatural, so his name isAlex Calvert Alex.
Nick (14:53):
Calvert.
Cass (14:54):
And, if you want to be
specific, alexander Calvert, but
he I thought would be fun.
Nick (14:59):
What's his IMDB name?
But I thought.
Cass (15:09):
Alexander Calvert name,
but I thought alexander calvert.
Yeah, I thought he would bekind of a fun pick because he's
a lovable character insupernatural.
He's done powers and stuff insupernatural.
So I was like I wanted someonefun that he's only been known
for jack but, I don't get to seehim that much and it's not a
whole celebrity crush, it's justthe fact that I do like his
acting.
I think he does a lot, but he'sbeen kind of like pushed into
TV and kind of like smallermovies.
(15:31):
So I thought he'd be kind of funbecause I think he would do
kind of the same thing that SeanAshmore did in movies.
Nick (15:36):
Yeah, he's, he's in the
the boy spinoff Gen V as as
Rufus.
He's in the Arrow show.
Like as Rufus.
He's in the Arrow show, likeyou said, edge of 17.
Yeah, it seems like he's kindof been in TV, so this again it
kind of lines up that this couldbe like here's the young guy,
here's a chance for him to be ona movie.
It's kind of the same trajectoryas Sean Ashmore, even, even,
like you, go further back toBates Motel in 2013.
(15:56):
So so, yeah, I feel like that'sa logical like, yeah, let's
give this guy the chance to playkind of the younger, kind of
heartthrob, uh, iceman.
He in the movies he's portrayedas the teenager love interest
of Rogue, and I think in thecomics he might be a little aged
up.
I'm not entirely sure.
Again, this is not a comicspodcast, this is a movie podcast
.
I apologize, but I get thelogic that you're going with
(16:18):
there for sure thank you butyeah and he's not.
he's not super prevalent inX-Men 97 right now, but again,
you make these movies and makemore spinoffs.
These favorites are bound topop up in some form or fashion,
for sure.
Aly (16:30):
Right, I agree.
Nick (16:31):
So, allison, yes, who did
you pick for your character?
Aly (16:35):
I'm going to butcher.
Oh well, first off, I choseNightcrawler.
Nick (16:37):
Nice.
Aly (16:38):
I've always had a soft spot
for Nightcrawler.
Nick (16:47):
Also, the opening scene in
x2 is sick.
It's chef's kiss like say whatwe will about.
Redacted director of first twomovies, brian singer.
But dude knows how to make someaction sequences.
He's a pretty decent filmmaker.
It's just a shame that he's aproblematic individual yeah both
can be true at the same timeyeah, yeah, but uh, nightcrawler
, uh, kurt wagner, as he's knownin the comics, uh, rich from
germany.
He possesses superhuman agility, the ability to teleport the
(17:07):
main thing there.
Nightcrawler Kurt Wagner, ashe's known in the comics, from
Germany.
He possesses superhuman agility, the ability to teleport the
main thing there and adhesivehands and feet, and he has like
a very blue skin tone.
He looks very.
People would probably considerhim to look like kind of like a
demon or a gargoyle or something.
Cass (17:17):
Yes, yeah, yeah.
Nick (17:17):
But his earliest comic
book appearances he's depicted
as kind of a happy-go-lucky,practical joker.
He's a fan of swashbucklingfiction, I guess.
But the other notable thingabout nightcrawler is he's
catholic and while it's notemphasized as much earlier on in
in later depictions and themovies, uh, that's kind of like
one of his prominent things.
He's very vocal about his faithand you don't see that a lot
(17:38):
between him and like daredevil.
Those are the two main guys, but uh, he's a fun character,
obviously it's.
There's a reason.
He's a fan favorite and yes, hewas so great in number two and
they and they wrote him off ofthree and put him in the video
game with ice man.
That's what they were up to.
They were just in the videogame man.
Aly (17:53):
It was so upsetting because
I, like I said, I really
enjoyed him in x2 and I thinkalso, if I'm not mistaken, I
just re-watched it, so I shouldremember.
But um, he has scars all overhimself because doesn't he?
Cut himself every time he has asin or something, or any time
he sins.
It's really interesting, he's areally interesting and
compelling character and Ialways felt very sympathetic
toward him For sure he's verylikable.
Nick (18:13):
He's originally played in
the 97 X-Men cartoon.
He's played by Adrian Hughvoice actor, but in the movies
he's played by Alan Cumming.
Most people would know AlanCumming from golden eye.
He's kind of the tech bad guykind of character.
He said son of the mask as lokiand he is kazoo kazoo in the
flintstones.
Aly (18:32):
Viva rock vegas he's also
in spy kids, isn't he?
Nick (18:34):
he's also in spice world
oh, hey, there we go?
I would.
I would be feel like it's asafe thing to say that this is
probably the peak of alancumming's career, in my personal
opinion, just possibly possibly, I'm not sure.
Aly (18:46):
I probably should have
researched before I got here,
but yeah, that's what I saw atleast.
Nick (18:50):
But he's also played
Nightcrawler's, played by Cody
Smith McPhee.
Yeah, people know him from letme in the road dawn of the
planet of the apes and he voicedpara Norman.
But that was in X-Menapocalypse.
That came out later.
So once they brought in, heywe're at, we're at the eighties
and nineties, we can bring backthe original movie X-Men and
they started pulling innightcrawler and other people
like that.
But yes, nightcrawler, personalfavorite right Scars on his sin
(19:14):
, scars, rights.
Aly (19:15):
The sins on his hand, on
his hands and stuff Um this
actor's name that's what we dobest here.
110 I'm usually pretty goodwith this, but this guy is uh
german okay I was trying to withmy casting choices.
Just as a heads up, I wastrying to steer away from marvel
if as much as possible, butthere's only so much you gotta
do, you do your best yeah, and Itried to stay as faithful to
(19:36):
like 97 and all of that.
So this guy's name is michaelgraziati.
Nick (19:42):
I'm not sure I it looks
like Graziati, which sounds very
Italian.
Aly (19:46):
It sounds very Italian, but
I'm sure I'm butchering it
because he's German.
Nick (19:48):
Yes, for sure.
Aly (19:51):
He's mostly in TV shows and
stuff.
He was in American Horror StoryMurder House.
Nick (19:56):
He was Jessica Lange's
lover in that, the young
boyfriend in that guy?
Aly (20:00):
Yeah, he was also in the
Young and the Restless.
He's just been in a bunch ofother stuff.
Nick (20:06):
Yeah, yeah, that guy but
he's appeared in uh, the most
recent season of true detectivejody foster.
He was in uh lucifer, apparently for an episode, so
another tv kind of guy appearedin the watchman tv series.
So yeah, another chance forkind of like a character actor
type to kind of get their shotyeah, well, and he's also in
makeup too, the whole time youknow, he's.
Aly (20:23):
He's all blue, so I wasn't
too worried about getting the
looks quite right he doesn'tlook like night crawlers me like
him at all, but no, uh, yeah, Ithink that he would do a good
job and, like I, yeah, kind oflike what you said, um kind of
give him his big break, maybefor sure, for sure.
Nick (20:37):
No, I like that choice
yeah, I think that that's the
thing.
We're in america and it's sucha pocket and there's so much
cinema and actors that come fromall over the world outside of
there like michael was born ingermany, um, and but, and
sometimes you get those actorsthat are from other countries
and they just turn out to begreat.
I mean, like the actor whoplays hans landa in, uh,
(20:57):
inglorious bastards whose nameescapes me christoph waltz.
Diane kruger was actually uh,who also is in movie.
Aly (21:03):
She's from Germany as well,
I didn't know that that's
interesting.
Nick (21:06):
So we got to look outside,
guys, I know they're not going
to be super memorable, but justtrust us here.
Okay, we're taking you on aride All right, yeah, there we
go.
But speaking of casting choices,I guess it's my turn to go up.
So he was initially not on ourmain list and I'm sure some
people would be like, well, where's he at?
Why did we cast him?
Just to get it off the listhere.
(21:26):
We are not going to cast Morphand we're not going to cast
Sunspot apologies to stans.
Of those characters, we have alimited amount of time.
We're trying to hit as many aspossible, but I'm going with
Cable.
He appears in X-Men 97 this newseason.
For those of you uninitiated, cable is the son of nathan's uh,
he's excuse me scott summersand jean gray's uh child.
(21:48):
Uh, scott summers is cyclops inthe original movies.
Uh, he is born in the presentday.
This is where we get supersci-fi and comic book.
He was infected with a deadlytechno organic virus while still
an infant, so they sent himwith bishop into the future and
he became, like the?
Uh, basically an enemy of thevillain apocalypse in the future
(22:09):
.
And there's there's a lot ofpost-apocalyptic, like doomsday
futures in x-men, and so youhave to remember, like okay,
which one is he from?
And that's the one withapocalypse.
Uh, apocalypse was obviouslythe movie that came out a couple
years back.
Uh, he was played by oscarisaac, but originally the only
person that has played cable inany live action movie was josh
brolin, and that was in thedeadpool two sequel he's such a
(22:32):
babe in that he was fun uh joshbrolin.
Most of you know him as thanosfrom the avengers movies.
He's also in no country for oldmen.
As a teenager he was in gooniesyep.
More recently he was in thedune movies that have come out
in the last couple years andalso in things like true grit, w
on and on a lot of uh oscardrama pieces and stuff.
But uh, I was kind of scouringreally quick to try to find
(22:54):
somebody and I had somebody waslike okay, this guy's kind of
could play an aged war torn.
The future is a mess and I haveto try to fix it kind of
character.
But I realized I ran into theMarvel problem Allie.
Yeah, I told you, it's notactually the Marvel problem,
it's the Fox problem, because heis in X-Men Origins, wolverine
Oops, the thing we don't reallylike to talk about.
Aly (23:13):
Oh, I don't know what
you're talking about.
Nick (23:15):
So I'm picking Kevin
Durant.
Most people will know him fromthe most recent movie, the
Kingdom.
Him from the most recent movie, the kingdom of the planet of
the apes.
He was also in 310 to yuma.
He's just a big character actorin x-men origins wolverine.
Aly (23:33):
He's the blob.
Really, that's the blob.
I didn't realize that was himand that's.
Nick (23:35):
I was like I had him lined
up.
I was like, oh yeah, he's kindof got to come up now.
He's in kingdom planning.
He does a great job as thevillain in that movie.
And then I was like, oh, he'sthe blob.
That's right, fred Duke's theblob, but we're going to flex it
because it's not like this, like treasured role or treasured
movie.
By any means.
We're going to give him achance to come back, because
that happens in Marvel moviessometimes, where it was like,
(23:56):
well, that was a small blink andyou'll miss it character.
So I just think he's going tobe, because Cable is often
portrayed, especially in theshow and the comics, as this big
buff dude who's?
just very sizable and I was kindof like looking at other people
and I was like we'll just gowith Kevin Durant, it's fine.
Aly (24:11):
There you go.
Nick (24:12):
Not Kevin Durant like I
said previously on 310 Duma
episode, but Kevin Durant with aD at the end.
Aly (24:18):
Also, Nick, you just pissed
off the like 10 Wolverine
Origins fans.
Nick (24:21):
Oh, I know they're so
upset.
Aly (24:22):
Yeah, more and more
listeners.
Nick (24:24):
Still good to me.
You just don't get it.
You don't understand man.
So yeah, kevin Durant, writehim down.
We're going to jump into ourfull on cast Now.
Here, each of us are going topresent an actor for these roles
.
We are not just passing aroundthe actor casting at this point,
but we're going to start bigbecause, again, like I said,
(24:44):
there's a ton of people and youreally it's hard to even just
put someone at the top of thiswhole list.
But we're gonna start with theguy who kind of started it all,
professor charles xavier.
He is the leader of the x-men.
You would say, yeah, uh,basically he's the guy who put
it all together.
He's a psychic, he hastelekinesis abilities, he can
read minds, he can control minds, which is kind of a big thing
(25:05):
that goes on in those movies.
Um, he is originally from thenew york area, I believe, uh,
but the character itself in thein the cartoon was voiced by
cedric smith and ross mcquand ofwalking dead fame.
Hey, aaron yeah, he's the guythat marvel goes to now when
they're like well, that actordoesn't work with us anymore, so
can you do a voice of them?
(25:27):
Because he voiced Red Skull inInfinity War and he's gone on to
do what's the robot characterAge of Ultron?
He did Ultron in the what Ifseries, but in the movies he's
played by Sir M McKellen, knownfor playing Gandalf mainly, and
then also Michael Fassbender inthe first class series of movies
(25:47):
.
Cass (25:47):
Wait, wait.
Nick (25:49):
I messed up Back up.
Sir Patrick Stewart plays himin the comics and James McAvoy.
Sir Patrick Stewart, star TrekNext Generation, excalibur in
the 80s, dune in the 80s andMcAvoy Split Atonement, wanted,
atomic Blonde, those type ofmovies.
Aly (26:03):
I love them Brill, split,
atonement, wanted Atomic Blonde,
those type of movies.
I love them, brilliantly playedby both, I would say I thought
they both were fantastic.
Nick (26:08):
They did a great job
casting both these.
It's kind of like well, you hadSir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian
McKellen.
Cass (26:12):
You can't screw these two
up, so we got to get these two.
Nick (26:16):
But yeah, in the movies
he's kind of more played a
little more righteously Likehe's just the very this
exemplary character in thecomics and tv show.
You kind of get more the ideathat he has a bit more of a
humanity to him where he's yeah,he has a little bit more of a a
selfish kind of mentality hereand there in the in x-men 1970s,
in space, like living his bestlife with his space girlfriend,
(26:38):
potential wife.
It's getting wild, yeah, but uh, we're just going to keep that
rotation going so.
So, cass, tell me who yourProfessor X is.
Cass (26:48):
Okay, so I wanted mine's a
little weird only because I did
struggle with this one, becauseI love Sir Patrick Stewart and
James McAvoy as Professor X.
I think that casting wasperfect for him completely.
Yeah, but I wanted to go kind of.
I wanted to kind of go into theWalking Dead route and pull
some heartstrings a little bit, because when you've watched the
(27:08):
first episode of X-Men 97,you've learned that you know
Professor X has, in quotes, died.
So I was like I like the ideaof people getting upset over
that, thinking oh, we missed, like this guy.
So I went Steven Ewan, who isGlenn in the Walking Dead
because I thought he would havea fun time with it.
He's a lovable character personso I just was like I think he
(27:29):
could do a good job.
I feel like he wouldn't look sobad with a bald head, but I
feel like it would be nice tosee him in that sort of role,
because Steven Ewan's been inwhat Minari, Minari Nope came
out recently.
Nick (27:45):
Oh, that's right, Yeah's.
He's made his appearancesoutside of walking dead on some
tv shows and movies and stuff, but I feel like he's starting to
kind of get those bigger roleslike in minari and also in nope
coming out here soon agreed soyour cast he's.
He's about 41 right now, soyou're kind of casting them a
little younger, not not jamesmcavoy age, but definitely like
closer to middle age, I guess.
(28:06):
Quote unquote but is your castgoing to kind of skew that way?
Are we going to see the rest ofthe X-Men be a little younger
in your mind?
Cass (28:13):
My the X-Men, yes.
Nick (28:15):
OK.
Cass (28:16):
I think my Magneto is
going to be that same age as
Professor X, ok, but noweverybody else is kind of
hitting like 30 and then maybe alittle bit 40.
Nick (28:27):
So cool, ok interesting,
hitting like 30 and then maybe a
little bit 40.
So cool, okay, interesting,yeah, I think that's.
The thing is that we don'treally know what direction they
could spit it on its head and go.
Professor x and magneto areyoung.
They're old again, so it's kindof all up in the air right now.
So that'll be fun to in threeyears to watch this back and go.
Who got it right and who got itright?
Speaking speaking of ourpredictions ally, who did you
have for professor?
Aly (28:47):
all right, so I had
somebody written down, but I'm
gonna go with my first choice.
I did really struggle with thisone, I'm gonna be honest.
Yeah, but I did try to cast asclose to the age.
I can't remember if I alreadysaid that, but, um, you know
what I want to give him.
I know that he is incrediblewith all of his um voice work
and stuff.
I'm gonna give you Andy Serkis.
Nick (29:03):
I think that would be
interesting.
Aly (29:05):
Yeah, I think that would be
really interesting because, you
know, give him more of a um, aa role, that where he actually
it doesn't have to wear the dotsall over his face, you know
right um, I think that would bereally interesting too.
Plus, I think that he couldhave the key.
I don't know, he just has suchrange um andy circus, I mean if
you don't know him, but wherehave you been, gollum?
He's caesar in the planetmovies he's.
Nick (29:25):
He's the bad guy in the
sequel series of Snoke, star
Wars, which I my hot take ofthat, which there's plenty of
Star Wars hot takes, but there'snot enough.
Andy Serkis live action becausehe pops up later in the uh
Andor series and he's great inthat.
He wasn't he also he's in theprestige live action and he gets
to really act and have fun inthat.
But I feel like had he beenlive action, just regular Snoke,
(29:48):
because I saw like behind thescenes of him performing it with
daisy ridley and I'm like thisis so much more effective and
you forget that's andy circus.
Like having him be there, likeand be prominent.
Like you're missing some starpower by hiding it's where it's
like this doesn't work in thismoment, yeah, so I kind of like
that yeah, you balled him up alittle bit.
Aly (30:05):
I think he would be great
at it.
He's also in 13, going on 30.
How dare you forget him in that?
Nick (30:09):
Forgive me, I'm so sorry,
I'm just kidding.
Aly (30:11):
No, but yeah, I think it
would be interesting.
So that's that's my pick for aprofessor.
Charles Xavier, okay, I like itVery cool.
Nick (30:22):
Yeah, in the reshoots of
the new captain america movie oh
god uh giancarlo esposito ohokay, he's great I wanted him to
get away from being a villainfair, totally fair like there's
him and mark strong and a coupleothers like once they get
thrown in, they're just likehe's a villain and I'm just
bored by it and totally fair andgiancarlo's kind of at that
point for me like he was in themandalorian and stuff and he was
(30:44):
in uh breaking.
But I'm just very much like, canwe please?
And he's even in the Boys, he'sa bad guy, oh that's right, we
forgot he was in the Boys.
I get it, Giancarlo.
The money's coming in.
You're not going to get allthose type of movies every once
in a while.
Get your bag while you can.
Aly (30:59):
He does play them really
well too, though sure but my
pick.
Cass (31:08):
So pulling it out of the
bag I'm getting, I'm just gonna
give you sterling k brown oh, Iwas considering him.
Nick (31:12):
He was young ninjobu in
black panther in a scene.
Again, I'm bending some of myown rules that I was trying to.
I was trying to adhere to it'shard but I feel like it's
another one where you're likewell, we could bring him around
and be fine he's.
He's about in his 50s at thispoint, but I feel like you could
age him up if you wanted to, orbring him down however you
wanted to.
Most people will know him fromthe TV series this is us Yep.
(31:33):
Recently he was in a Oscarnominated movie, american
fiction from last year that I'dlike to watch and other people.
he's voiced in Invincible, theAmazon superhero series, and
he's also in kind of a fun genreflick, hotel Artemis with Dave
Bautista and Jodie.
Cass (31:46):
Foster.
I like him a lot.
Nick, did you know that he wasalso in Supernatural?
Nick (31:51):
I did not, Cass.
I did not know he was inSupernatural.
Is that how you know him, Cass?
Cass (31:56):
No, I've always known who
he was, but it is funny seeing
him in that.
Was he a?
Nick (32:00):
bad guy in Supernatural.
Cass (32:01):
He was oh my gosh.
Nick (32:03):
See, that's what I'm
talking about, giancarlo, come
on, you're going to do the rightthing.
You can do other stuff, it'sfun.
Get your back, giancarlo, it'sfine, it's fine, all right.
Well, again, this is aDreamcast episode, mini-sode.
So there's no person sittinghere making a choice amongst the
three of us, so it's up to youguys in the future.
So you just have to keep score, score and see what you think of
(32:23):
what you like and let us knowmoving forward.
But we're gonna move now intothe guy I was talking about,
kind of morphing with professorx, the best friend for life.
Aly (32:31):
They were friends alley
dale they were, they were
friends, they were friends.
Nick (32:35):
Magneto eric lencher or,
as he was originally known, max
einhardt.
He changed his name, that's whyprofessor x calls him magnus
yeah, because he went by thatand the whole.
This whole thing happened wherehe had to change his name yeah
basically, and that's why incomics there's name changes and
stuff that happen all the time.
That's probably why in themovies they were like let's just
call him Eric, let's keep thethe World War II origin and
(32:56):
stuff yeah um, if you don't, ifyou're not familiar, magneto's
the powerful mutant.
He's played by M McKellen,michael Fassbender as a younger
man.
He's a mutant.
He's considered one of thoseOmega level threats.
An Omega level threat mutant isbasically their power levels
are so high that there's no wayto properly measure it.
So you get a couple of those inthe X-Men world, but his power
is as you could guess, itinvolves metal and magnetism.
(33:21):
He's a master of magnetism.
I'm going back to my stuff.
He's regarded, as he regardsmutants as evolutionary superior
to humans.
He rejects the possibility ofpeaceful human mutant
coexistence.
Uh, he's initially aimed toconquer the world to enable
mutants um and he refers to themas homo superior to replace
humans as the dominant species.
(33:41):
This is, I believe, one of thethings that was changed in the
70s and 80s just to really tiein the dynamic between professor
x and him.
A lot of people liken it, like,oh, they originally had Malcolm
X and Martin Luther King andand while that's, I think, the
idea with the 70s and 80s, Idon't believe that was the
initial idea from the offsetwhen Stan Lee and them created
it.
But clearly those parallels arethere and that's going to be
(34:03):
their dynamic.
It was in the movies to startwith, because professor x has
that more peaceful coexistencekind of mindset where magneto is
like no, they're going tobetray us, they're going to
destroy us, we have to kill themwhile we can, kind of thing,
and that's just kind of theirdynamic through the whole movies
, every movie you have them in,they're constantly at war with
each other.
Yeah.
So you have to find somebodythat's gonna bring that presence
in that idea now in 97, as alidale will will tell you he fans
(34:27):
of flames for you, allie Dale, doesn't he?
Aly (34:29):
oh, magneto oh yeah, I
don't know what it is.
He's a baby in the animatedseries.
It's the main, it's the flowinghe's got white hair too.
Nick (34:38):
He's aging like a fine
wine in the comments.
Aly (34:40):
I know and it's lovely.
Nick (34:41):
I'm not mad about it, I
was gonna say anyone with white
hair is gonna be fine okay,we've all learned something
about you two today don't judgeme and hear it in your voice
well, ali, since you're, sinceyou're uh thinking about magneto
right now, tell me who youpicked for him y'all, I messed
up.
Aly (34:58):
This person's died last
year.
I have no idea.
Nick (35:04):
Well, well, while you're
thinking for a moment, who are
you thinking he would have been?
Aly (35:08):
so good too, ray stevenson.
Nick (35:10):
Oh he would have been so
good as magneto I didn't realize
he had passed oh, dang it, man.
All right, you guys go ahead.
Well, he just to quickly noteray stevenson rip.
Uh, but he got to do like agreat role as balan skull in
ahsoka ahsoka, man, that's whatI but dang it all right well, if
you don't know him from thathe's.
He's been in other things likeThor.
He was one of the the threebest friends of Thor that I
(35:31):
can't remember.
Their bolt stags his name in thecomics, but he's also in stuff
like the three musketeers.
He he was in RRR.
If you love some Indian, uh,bollywood films, check that out.
He was in Vikings, a tv series, for a few episodes.
He's, he gets around.
He's a good character actorkind of guy.
Rest in peace, ray stevenson.
Aly (35:47):
So while I was figuring
that out.
Peace, I feel horrible aboutthat.
Nick (35:50):
I will, I will I will fill
in for you for this moment and
give my pick.
Uh, I picked uh one.
Uh, you'll probably like thisone too.
Alley dale, I'm picking jason.
Jason isaacs oh, I do lovethat's a great idea uh, jason
isaacs played lucius malfoy inthe harry potter movies.
If you don't know, he was thebad british man in the patriot
(36:10):
that mil gibson takes down.
He's also appeared in otherthings like death of stalin, but
he's also done a lot of voiceacting recently, including
balder's gate 3 for all you guys.
Oh, interesting, gortash, envergortash this was not by any
means like a a quickly thoughtof thing.
I've seen it on fan cast andstuff but I think that he's such
a like.
He's not like this A-list guy,but he's one of those that, like
(36:31):
you're like yes, there's areason people are bringing him
up, because it just fitsperfectly, and especially when
you're thinking of long hair, jason Isaacs with white hair and
you look at 97 X-Men, you'relike yeah that's the guy that
was a little much, but he wasalso a baby's hook.
Aly (36:46):
He was Captain.
Nick (36:46):
Hook in Peter Pan.
Yeah, in the Peter Pan movie, yeah.
Cass (36:49):
That's like a perfect pick
.
That's a really good pick.
Nick (36:52):
Again, not entirely
responsible for that one.
The fans kept bringing it upand I was like I'm just going to
use that because it's hard tofind anything better.
So, Cass, who do you have inmind?
Cass (37:06):
So I went with someone
that I have recently seen in
newer movies.
So I'd like to say that I got alittle bit of 2024 knowledge of
this actor, but he's been instuff like beauty and the beast.
Um, I think he did a little inthe ninth uh ninth museum secret
of the tome okay and just kindof like smaller roles, like the
rental.
That was the Dave Franco moviethat he directed, but I went
with Dan Stevens oh, okay, okaywho was in the more recent
(37:31):
Godzilla versus Kong movie andthen also Abigail he was the
kooky kind of guy that flew theplane trapper trapper.
Aly (37:38):
Oh, okay, okay, yeah.
Nick (37:39):
Kong Godzilla.
Cass (37:40):
Go check it out on
streaming now, because it's not
in theaters anymore, because wedon't do that anymore around
here but I thought he would be afun pick because, like, if we
want it, as Ali was saying thatthat Magneto is a babe.
I was kind of thinking alongthose lines for for Dan Stevens,
because he can be, like youknow, attractive, but also like
a little charming and I want tosee him more in that evil role.
(38:01):
I like that so yeah he's 41.
Nick (38:05):
Yeah, he's around the age
that you're playing with cast
and yeah, he pops up in somehorror movies and stuff.
But yeah, he's the beast inbeauty and the beast if you're
wondering who he is.
That's probably your best play,or the new godzilla kong movie
yeah, but I can see that yeah, Icould see that for sure,
abigail.
Yeah, that's probably a goodone too.
Cass (38:20):
I have you watched that
yet I haven't, but I know he has
a very iconic quote that like Ireally want to see.
Nick (38:26):
Okay, yeah, that's, that's
on my watch list, yeah I want
to watch.
It's the.
Aly (38:28):
It's the small vampire yeah
, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I want
to see it.
Nick (38:31):
It looks interesting if
you don't have a pick, ali dill,
it's okay, I do okay it's notmy favorite okay it's not ray
stevenson.
Aly (38:37):
May he rest in peace damn
man, I'm still really upset
about that.
Uh, I'm gonna do go madsmickelson, because the dude is
really intimidating.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's good I like theidea of him.
I think he would be reallyinteresting as Magneto.
Nick (38:48):
I don't have many other
notes other than that, because I
was kind of my only note ishe's also the guy I hope gets to
play Dr Doob.
He's not casted yet.
Aly (38:55):
No, but you're right.
Nick (38:57):
But you hope he hey listen
, who knows what might happen.
Aly (38:59):
This is just going to be a
loss on me that's on me, guys,
this one's on me.
Nick (39:09):
That's on me.
Listen, it happens.
It happens on this show.
Ash has done it, cast has doneit, we've all done it.
Aly (39:11):
It's it just happens.
Cass (39:11):
I was so excited for that
too that's all right I was gonna
say ash has definitely done itwhere I had to be like hey,
they're like 18 at this time.
Nick (39:19):
All right, we'll just keep
keeping our pace light and
brief.
Here we've got.
We still got a couple couple ofcassie choices to go, but.
But we're going to move into alesser known X-Man Bishop.
Yes, bishop Lucas Bishop.
He was voiced by Philip Aikenand Isaac Robinson Smith in the
in the cartoon.
He was played in Days of FuturePast by Omar Sy I think I'm
saying his name right.
He's not a well-known actor.
(39:40):
He's appeared in things likeIntouchables, jurassic World and
Transformers the last night butI think he did a pretty decent
job as Bishop in that movie.
He didn't get a lot of lines oranything, but he just had the
presence for sure.
Cass (39:51):
Right.
Nick (39:52):
If you're not familiar
with who Bishop is, he's another
X-Men from the future, but he'sa member of, like this
dystopian police force of X-Men.
He travels to the 20th centuryand joins the X-Men.
His ability is he possesses theability to absorb energy.
He has this gun that he canchannel all the energy into.
So there's a point where he'sjust sniping all these bad guys
(40:12):
and stuff.
In the movie, um bishop is anintense, dedicated, utterly
serious soldier detective.
Although decades removed fromhis jurisdiction, he's still a
tough cop at heart.
So that's kind of it's kind ofthe idea you got for for a
bishop.
Um, I'll go first on this one, since it's my turn, I think, um,
I'm pulling somebody that hashad, um, some leading roles in
the past 10 years or so, buthe's kind of just fallen off
(40:34):
like I don't think he quite gotto the level that he was
supposed to get to, or peoplethought he was going to get to,
given his namesake.
So I'm giving you john davidwashington okay most people will
know him from tenantet Black, klansman and most recently the
Creator, which was a big sci-fimovie that just didn't live up
to the hype, really, but it'scool.
But he was also in Amsterdamthe Ballers TV show with the
(40:58):
Rock and also in Malcolm andMarie with Zendaya.
So I just think I think he hasa good presence to him.
I just think he just neverfound the right vehicle to take
off as an A-lister per se, and Ithink he has a good presence to
him.
I just think he just neverfound the right vehicle to take
off as a of a lister per se andI think that this is a good
chance for him to play a verynotable fan favorite kind of
character, um, and I think he'lljust have fun with it.
Aly (41:14):
Yeah, I agree, I think
that's a good, I think that's a
really good pick.
Nick (41:16):
Yeah, thank you.
So, cass, who do?
That's who I went with too.
Cass (41:20):
Yes, nice.
Nick (41:21):
Across the internet.
Cass (41:23):
Hi Ali, something told me
that you and I were going to
pick the same one, like at onepoint.
So no, that one, that one Ijust thought he would have like
a really fun time with, becauseeven when I like did watch like
the first episode of the show, Iwas instantly like no, he's
perfect for it.
Aly (41:43):
Like it perfect for it like
it's just the energy about him
and yeah, whatever yourexplanation is as well.
Nick (41:50):
Yeah, yeah, I agree, I
think he could also deliver
those silly lines as well, likethe really cheesy fun little
lines yeah well, yeah, good now.
The interesting about him isthat you know he had such a
fallout with the star wars world.
So I wonder, thinkingrealistically here is like will
he be open to the idea ofjoining another Disney founded
cinematic universe, kind ofthing?
Aly (42:08):
Yeah.
Nick (42:09):
Who's to say.
He seems like he's kind ofgoing the opposite direction.
He was in a really fun film acouple of years ago called they
clone Tyrone, which was really.
It was actually last year hepopped up in the woman King.
But it'll be interesting to seeif he goes the more kind of
smaller film route or if he dipshis toe back into uh, big
tentpole movies it's kind ofunavoidable at some point as an
(42:30):
actor.
It's like yeah here's the money,here's where everything's going
.
This is where the jobs are at,so and maybe enough time has
passed too by that point whereit's like uh, I'll give it
another shot different creativeteam different directors exactly
hopefully so, because I likehim a lot.
I hope he gets to do yeah, it'skind of like him and Daisy
Ridley.
I'm like please be in morestuff.
Cass (42:45):
Yes, yeah.
Nick (42:47):
For sure.
Cass (42:48):
Agreed.
Nick (42:48):
Okay, now another fan
favorite that popped up in X-Men
, the Last Stand, the first timewe saw him in live action.
We're going with Dr Hank McCoy,himself known as Beast Yep.
He was originally voiced byGeorge Booza in the cartoons
(43:11):
Excuse me, not the comics comicsand then he was played by
kelsey grammar yeah, of allpeople.
It's a really interestingcasting choice, but it works,
but it works.
And then later on, as a youngerversion, he's played by
nicholas holt, kelsey grammaryes, kelsey grammar.
You'll know him from cheers andthe kramer the tv spinoff show.
That's pretty much it.
When people said this is gonnabe played by kramer everybody,
that's weirdly brilliant.
Yeah, and I'm sure cory probablydoes love that character yeah
um hol you've seen him in FuryRoad about a boy when he was a
child and warm bodies.
He was a zombie and lovesromantic zombie movie.
(43:34):
It's out there, it happens.
But Beast himself is fromIllinois.
They had this whole idea to putthe X-Men in different parts of
the world, which makes sense.
Give it this kind ofinternational flavor, if you
will.
Cass (43:48):
Well and I think that made
sense in the movies, because
it's all like they're all beingbrought together to go to.
Professor X's school.
Nick (43:51):
Yeah, but he was
originally called the Beast when
he was originally introduced.
But it's basically his thing is.
He has like ape-like superhumanstrength and agility, oversized
hands and feet.
He initially does the wholeHulk thing where he turns into
the monster, has troublecontrolling it, but as an adult
he takes on the Beast form.
He's basically like Smart Hulkhe takes on the Beast form and
(44:12):
has this hyper-intelligencestill.
So let's go with Cass.
Who do you have for Hank McCoy?
The Beast?
Cass (44:19):
I did think about putting
Dan Stevens here because I
thought that would be kind offun just with his voice.
Nick (44:24):
Boo.
Cass (44:26):
Boo.
But, I went, I went, I went.
Carrie payton, who is 52 at thetime and he is the one that's
ezekiel in the walking dead sospell carrie's name for the
audience if it's, that's how yousay it, but k-h-a-r-y carrie
payton.
Nick (44:44):
Okay, from the walking
dead.
Yes, another walking dead poolfor you.
Cass (44:48):
I only picked him because
I saw him, like when I was doing
like my cast search and I waslike, oh, he has such a unique
voice that I felt like it wouldfit Beast really well, because I
feel like when I, when I waswatching it, beast was just very
like, you know, like greetings, and well, he didn't say
greetings and salutations, hesaid salutations and welcome
yeah, I was just like I couldjust imagine, like that voice
(45:08):
with carrie payton, where he'sjust very lovable and just very
intelligent and smart, so I justwanted that same vibe for beast
and I thought harry coulddeliver.
Nick (45:17):
Yeah, interesting if you
don't know, in the walking dead
he plays ezekiel.
He's the guy with the tiger, okay, and the long dreads and
stuff.
Very cool character, veryinteresting character.
Other than that, he does a lotof voice work it looks like he's
a cyborg.
Oh, he's cyborg in the TeenTitans Go, oh, okay, interesting
.
Cass (45:32):
Very fun.
Nick (45:34):
That's a fun pick.
I like that.
Now, a lot of people may notknow because they didn't watch
the Marvels is that KelseyGrammer returns as Beast in the
bonus?
Yeah, we're not.
We're beyond spoilers on thispodcast.
Apologies, but he pops upbecause one of the characters
actually falls into anotherparallel universe where the
X-Men are at.
(45:55):
So it'll be interesting to see, obviously with Hugh Jackman
coming back in, deadpool andWolverine, yes, and it's like
they're bringing in all theseFox heroes and stuff.
So it's interesting to see whatthey're going to do with all
that and how the multiversething works and, when they
introduce their new X-Men, ifthey'll be part of the
mainstream MCU universe orthey're going to do their own
(46:16):
thing.
That's kind of.
The problem is like there's somany characters it's going to be
hard to like blend them intothe MCU already.
Aly (46:23):
Yeah, for sure.
Nick (46:24):
But we'll see.
We knew already, yeah, for sure, but we'll see.
We'll see where they go with it.
Ali, who is?
Aly (46:28):
your hank mccoy.
So I I did mine based on voice,I did not do it based on on
physical appearance.
So just heads up on that got itum this guy.
So I haven't seen him in awhole lot, but again I thought
his voice, I thought it would beinteresting um his name, and
I'm gonna butcher this one too,because it's french let's
butcher it.
It's a reje.
Jean Page, he will know himfrom Bridgerton and he was also
(46:49):
recently in Dungeons and Dragons.
I thought he would be aninteresting choice and kind of
like an underground name andkind of maybe gave him his big
break.
I thought that would be aninteresting choice.
Nick (46:58):
In Dungeons and Dragons.
He's just like the over OPcharacter that just shows up to
save them and they're like he'sso cool and then disappears.
It's like, no, I'm not gonnahelp you with anything.
Yeah, I think it would be fun.
I think it'd be a fun littlechoice.
I like the idea.
Yeah, especially now.
Hank mccoy is a very americanname now and I think he can do
an american accent pretty well.
Because I sit there thinkinglike well, he could do a the
british accent and thatsometimes translates for us
(47:21):
americans like oh, they speakwith a high british accent.
That means they're intelligent.
But obviously I think it's inmy mind.
It's like, yeah, let's do theamerican accent because it just
fits the character well,nicholas holt.
Aly (47:32):
I mean he's british and he
did the american accent, so yeah
, those brits, they're just.
Nick (47:35):
They're just better than
us at things when it comes to
acting sometimes golly, nokidding so my pick, I went with
an american.
Okay, I went with john ham ofmadman fame.
Aly (47:47):
That's a good one.
Nick (47:48):
I think it just fits in
the kramer brain I had in mind
because, like he's a guy thatshould have been a bigger star,
should have been, could havebeen like a superman or a batman
or something um, but he was inthe town with ben affleck.
He was in the comedy tag, whichlooks really fun.
I never watched it, but he hasa an ability for comedy, like he
popped up on SNL and can doreally great stuff.
He was in the Mean Girls rebootthis year and then, uh, the last
(48:11):
movie he kind of started wasthe Fletch reboot with Confess
Fletch oh interesting thatdidn't take off at all no but
he's done a lot of voice actingin between, but I think he has
the size and also just kind ofhe can also do that proper kind
of Hank McCoy doctor voice aswell and I think he'll have a
lot of fun with it.
I went very, very Kramer withmine.
Aly (48:29):
Yeah, no, I like that.
That's a really good choice.
I like that too.
Nick (48:32):
And it's.
It's fun in X-Men the last dayand one of the notable good
things about it was the dynamicbetween Wolverine and a beast
and that's.
That's not popped up in X-Men97, but she's all over X-Men in
the movies and the comics.
She's also a very notablecharacter in the First Class
(48:55):
reboot.
So our next pick we're goingwith Mystique.
Mystique was voiced by JenniferDale in the TV show.
Allie had a blank.
Aly (49:03):
Sorry, that was weird.
Nick (49:04):
But in the movies she was
originally played by Rebecca
Romijn and then played byJennifer Lawrence as the younger
self.
Now listen, rewatching X, oneto listen it's.
It's hard not to say thatRebecca Romijn is a beautiful
woman, because even when youthrow all that makeup on her,
you're like she's still stunning.
Goodness, she's stunning, she'sbeautiful and she just for being
a model, turned actressactress.
(49:25):
She's only known for thingslike Femme Fatale.
I'm trying to look really quickat what else she was a part of.
She was in Rollerball, she wasin the Tom Jane Punisher many
years ago, before the MarvelCinematic Universe popped up.
But she's a decent actress andI think that people don't give
her enough credit.
I think she's starting to getattention in fancasts and stuff.
(49:46):
The term mother is being thrownaround a lot and so, uh, if
that tells you anything it's theway you said it.
It's the way you said it thatmakes you seem old nick.
How else was I supposed to say?
It was supposed to be like man.
She's so mother right now, likeno see, see, I did it right, I
did it the right way.
So, mystique, if you don't knowwho she is.
(50:07):
She's the blue lady in themovies.
But, to be more specific, she'sa shapeshifter.
She can mimic the appearanceand voice of any person.
Her natural appearance includesthe blue skin, red hair, yellow
eyes.
She's been both a supervillainand an anti-heroine, but she's
also, in the comics, been statedto be over 100 years old
potentially, and nobody reallyknows where she came from.
In the movie she's seen muchmore kind of played much more
(50:30):
like, you know, young woman kindof role.
Yeah, I, you know.
For me, jennifer Lawrence neverseemed to really nail it,
that's fair, like I think shedid fine, I think she did good,
but they were also trying tolike shoehorn in this whole idea
that she grew up with professorX and all this because, like
when you watch Days of FuturePast, they have to really
exposition dump to Wolverine.
(50:51):
Yeah, you have to go findMystique and stop her.
We were best friends growing upbut she ran away.
You're like, oh, you've neverbrought this up before.
How interesting.
We fought her many times, but Ithink she's a big iconic figure
of the X-Men movies and comics.
I think she's a big iconicfigure of the X-Men movies and
comics.
I think Rebecca Romijn andJennifer Lawrence do pretty good
jobs.
My leaning is always going tobe Rebecca Romijn.
(51:12):
Yeah, fair.
Other people might know her asJohn Stamos' wife for a time,
but they got divorced.
Now she's her own woman by gosh.
Aly (51:19):
Oh, look at her go.
Nick (51:20):
Look at her, go, allie
Dale.
Aly (51:22):
Yes.
Nick (51:24):
You're up to go first.
Who is your mystique?
Aly (51:25):
So I went the beauty route.
I'm going to be completelyhonest because I agree.
I think Rebecca Romijn is justabsolutely stunning.
She is a beautiful, beautifulwoman.
I'm giving you AlexandraDaddario, so you will know her.
She was in Baywatch.
Apparently, she was in PercyJackson, which I did not realize
, and then, recently.
It's White Lotus is what shewas on, but I think that she
(51:45):
could play mystique very well.
I think she's also verybeautiful.
I think it would be interesting.
Gorgeous yeah, she's stunningyou're gonna hide those witch
eyes from us but yeah, I thinkit would be interesting, I think
it'd be fun.
Yeah, right now, texas chainsaw.
Yeah, texas chainsaw.
Nick (51:59):
Right now her big thing is
the mayfair witches, this amc
tv series that she's in.
Okay, um, that's kind of whather big big deal is right now.
But no, I agree 100.
She's very gorgeous, she'sshe's kind of an underrated
actress.
So it'll be cool to see or kindof get whatever form she comes
into this movie series um to seewhat she can do in that role,
for sure yeah agreed, cass.
(52:20):
Who do you have for mystique?
Cass (52:21):
oh, I thought it was your
turn nope, I'm running the show
um.
This is where I kind of takesomeone that was in one of the
x-men movies, but the you knowredheaded stepchild one this is
where I put anya taylor joy okay, because I thought she would
have fun with the role ofmystique sure I think, because
(52:42):
to me she she's done a lot of,like, different roles throughout
her career, so that's why I'mlike I think mystique would be a
really fun choice for her.
She's beautiful in my opinion.
Oh yeah, she listen any opinionthat says she's not beautiful,
they're just wrong.
Nick (52:56):
Okay, it's just wrong
gorgeous um, she's beautiful.
Cass (53:00):
I think she could play a
little bit of that evil role.
I've seen her do it in peakyblinders and, yeah, I and she's
been in a lot of stuff recentlywhere you have, like you know,
the menu doing part two SuperMario Bros, but yeah, Princess
Peach.
Okay, no, I can see it.
Nick (53:20):
She's an A-lister, so your
money's going to go right there
.
But you better build the wholestory around around some
mystique mishaps going on inthis movie it's fine okay.
So I was, I'm torn between twopeople.
Right now I have one that Ifeel like could be a really good
actress but could still play itreally well, and have one
that's gonna fit it.
Kind of lays in that samerebecca romaine of model turned
(53:41):
actress.
She's been acting for a whilenot the best roles and stuff,
but just do what your heartdesires, nick I don't know, I'm
telling you I'm gonna go with alittle more established actress
name in case they want to domore spin-off work with her,
because she's kind of a popularname mary elizabeth winstead she
was.
I was considering her, oh god Iwas too, nick dang you most
(54:06):
people will know her from 10clverfield Lane, scott Pilgrim,
ramona, death Proof Live Free orDie Hard and recently, ahsoka.
She proved you could be greenand attractive.
So she could be blue andattractive pretty easy.
Cass (54:18):
I feel like Nick keeps
taking out the good stuff.
Final Destination 3 is where Iwould know her from.
Nick (54:25):
Stop, it Stop it.
She's also known in finaldestination kate birds of prey
fargo, the tv show swiss armyman, apparently uh-huh, mrs
obi-wan herself mrs obi-wankenobi, my other, my other
option, sorry to cut you off.
My other option I was thinkingabout was cara delavigne.
Uh, you know her from suicidesquad, valerian city of a
(54:45):
thousand planets, paper townsshe, she has the sex appeal down
.
I think it could really nailthe whole thing that Rebecca
Romaine was going for.
But I feel like Mary ElizabethWinstead can do that on top of
if they were like we want aspinoff or we want more to do
with her.
I think she's going to be ableto carry that a little bit
better.
Yeah, because she's perfect Istared at her for a solid 20
(55:10):
minutes earlier, wanting to pickher.
Well learn something aboutyourself today.
All kinds of things.
Aly (55:14):
I've already known.
Nick (55:16):
Well, moving forward, we
have another female to cast real
quick and we're going to castJubilee.
Jubilation Lee is her name.
In the comics.
She is a character that wasleft out of all of the movies
until apocalypse they finallystuck her into the movies.
Okay, she's from Beverly Hills,california.
In the in the storyline.
Her thing is she has, like this, energy plasmoids.
(55:39):
She calls them her fireworks.
It's very, very just visuallyinteresting, yes, but she, and
in some comic forms she has likea shield she can put up for
defense and stuff.
She was introduced as anorphaned mall rat from beverly
hills and she joined the x-menin the early 90s, becoming the
teen's youngest uh member andoften playing a sidekick role to
father figure wolverine oh,that's cute so it and I yeah I
(56:02):
think it's like she in the inthe tv show uh x-men, the mnAN
series.
she's adopted and they find outwhen she reaches teenage years
her powers come out and then shegets taken by this group and
the X-Men save her.
So she's kind of our eyes intothe whole world, introducing us
Kind of what Rogue was.
So my theory, my hot take is Ithink in the 90s studio execs
(56:29):
went we can't have a ChineseAmerican as our lead actress in
a movie yet, so we're gonna takerogue and make her that
character and do that.
That's.
They weren't ready for jubileeat the time, but we're ready now
yeah, I'm ready to throw her inand make her our fun character
that everybody loves she'sreally cute.
Aly (56:38):
Yeah, she's a lot of fun.
She's really cute in 90 inx-men 97 for sure.
Nick (56:42):
Um, I'll go off the bat
here and again.
We're in a time where we'restill fighting those battles of
getting minorities into moreprominent roles in films, so
it's hard to find a teenageAsian-American actress.
So I was doing a little diggingmore on the fan casting side of
things and what was suggestedand I'm going to go with her is
and I hope I don't destroy thename here, but Mamona Tamada is
(57:04):
her name.
She was in a reboot of thebabysitters club.
She's in the new avatar netflixas ty lee the the airbender,
not the blue people to be clearokay and she was also in the
spiderwick chronicles.
Okay, so I'm trusting theaudience here again.
My knowledge of her is verylimited, but if I keep seeing
some fan castings of her, I hadthought about jessica henwick,
(57:25):
but she's 31, so she's not gonnabe able to play like in my mind
, the teenage that I was goingfor yeah, that's fair and that
was kind of the same as I wasgoing down the list of a lot of
prominent the Brenda songsStephanie, who of everything,
everywhere, fame.
You're on a sawai of Shogun.
But I I've said, yeah, let'sgive her a shot, because
sometimes you got to pick theout of nowhere actors to play
(57:45):
these kind of big roles.
Aly (57:46):
I like that.
I think that's a good choice.
Nick (57:48):
Okay, allie, who did you
pick for Jubilee?
Aly (57:51):
Sorry, I didn't mean to cut
you off.
How rude of me.
Nick (57:53):
It's okay.
Aly (57:54):
I went ahead and I cast
Ariana Greenblatt, who you would
know from Barbie.
She was also in Infinity War,so she was in Small role.
Very small role and she waswearing a bunch of makeup.
She's also in ahsoka.
Um, she just I really like her.
She seems, um she's like anup-and-coming actress, um, and I
I like her range so far she's.
She's played a lot of iconiclike younger characters.
Nick (58:15):
She's on the come up for
sure.
She was young ahsoka.
Yeah, like you said, young uhgamora, and she's in barbie, the
biggest movie of last year.
Aly (58:22):
So exactly, and I thought
she did great.
I I liked her and I think thatshe would have a lot of fun with
this role.
Nick (58:26):
Yeah, I agree.
I think that's a fun choice forsure.
Aly (58:29):
Yeah, I like it.
Nick (58:30):
Cass, who do you have?
Cass (58:32):
So I just realized that my
choice was actually the one who
played Jubilee in Apocalypse, and I didn't even realize it,
but I did, oops.
So we're just going to blendthe worlds here.
We're just going to say thisJubilee, you're going to stay
put, don't move, yeah.
Nick (58:50):
So I'm going to pick one
just right off the bat, to be
clear, if I didn't say itearlier, lana Condor played her
in Apocalypse, the X-Men movie.
Cass (58:56):
Yeah, so I'm going to I'm
just going to throw this name
out nakodi nakoda, who was inscreen six, I think she, because
I I had to just try to do itquick as you guys were going
over your names.
I think she would be a reallyfun pick.
Nick (59:17):
Play that like little fun
role, that jubilee picks or um
plays as but and say the nameagain, just for the audience uh
devin nakoda devin nakvin Nakoda, okay so.
Cass (59:27):
Devin would be D-E-V-Y-N.
Oh, okay.
Nick (59:29):
Yeah, spelled a little
differently, but no, she's cute.
Yeah, she was in the Screamseries.
Is she a one-offer?
Spoiler alert.
Cass (59:37):
She dies in it.
Yes, okay, got it.
Well, that happens.
You know, pick be energetic, loving, because even in that
movie she played a very likeupbeat she played the girlfriend
of one of the main characters,so I think she would have fun
with that role and just be yeah, yeah, uh, also voiced by
allison court and holly chow inthe uh animated series.
Nick (59:59):
But yeah, I feel bad for a
lot of condor because she, she
got, she finally, we finally gotjubilee.
She was in apocalypse and it'sone of the worser-Men movies.
Aly (01:00:07):
It's not the worst one, but
it's not the best.
Nick (01:00:11):
So hopefully we'll get
some more Jubilee in these new
X-Men movies for sure.
Aly (01:00:15):
Also just a quick side note
.
It's really weird that the lastfor Mystique her voice
actress's last name is Dale andfor this one it's Allison and
it's spelled the exact same wayas mine.
That's super freaking out.
This is so trippy man anyway, sorry, proceed you're fine,
you're good.
Nick (01:00:30):
We're having, we're having
crises on infinite earths here.
All right, we're doing stormnext guys, all right.
Um, I don't know how toactually say her comic book name
aurora monroe, I think is it.
That's what it looks like uh Iread she, the character, is born
in new york, uh, but she is atribal princess of kenya and an
african-american photojournalistfather.
(01:00:51):
So she was.
She was the mother.
Yeah, storm was raised inharlem, new york and cairo,
egypt.
She became an orphan after herparents were killed.
Um, the emphasis the incidentkind of gave her some trauma.
It also left her with someclaustrophobia that she was
struggling with.
So that kind of helps build thecharacter.
She is an omega level threat.
Aly (01:01:07):
She controls storms, guys
it's so weather, one of my
favorites.
Nick (01:01:10):
She's cool yeah voiced by
allison seely smith.
She was played in live actionby hallie berry and then, uh,
alexandra ship in the apocalypsemovie.
Okay, yes most people.
If you don't know hallie berryuh, she was in flintstones, die
another day monsters, which shewon an Oscar for.
She did John Wick 3, morerecently she was also in
(01:01:30):
Swordfish was kind of a bigmovie for her back in the day.
Alexandra's Ship was a Barbie.
She was in Love, Simon andStraight Outta Compton.
Cass (01:01:38):
Oh, interesting.
Nick (01:01:39):
Did I miss anything?
Any horror movies cast thatAlexandra's Ship was in.
Aly (01:01:42):
No, I think you got
everything.
You missed Catwoman for HalleBerry.
Nick (01:01:45):
How much you thought it
was that I don't know how we
talked about that one.
Aly (01:01:48):
I'm just kidding.
Nick (01:01:49):
But no, storm, she's one
that I feel like in the original
movies kind of gets nerfed.
Agreed Again, it's theWolverine's problem,
no-transcript.
(01:02:13):
So it's cool when she does getto use her powers, like in the
second one, when she just makescerebro.
The room that professor x is injust super cold.
Aly (01:02:20):
So it snaps out of that
psychosis that he's been put in
by the other guy on all thetornadoes too, whenever they're
doing the, the chasing scene, yeah, and she gets to have a
good she gets to have a coolmoment in days of future, past
too I was gonna say that too thesentinels for sure
Nick (01:02:33):
her scene was so sad
though it was, and she just got,
I guess yeah, there was a gaspmoment, for sure, because they
just fight him off and and thesentinel comes out of nowhere
and just just yep, mercs her.
And you're like no, halle Berry, no, please, why, god, why.
But anyway, moving on tocasting, I'll go first with this
one.
(01:02:54):
I think she's a singer turnedactress.
Most people have seen her inGlass Onion, moonlight, hidden
Figures.
I'm giving you a Janelle Monaethat's a good one.
I like that one more recentlyshe's been in Antebellum,
harriet and a couple TV shows, including Human Resources, but
she's also dropped some, somealbums here and there along the
way.
I just think she's got thatpresence about her because the
(01:03:15):
thing about the storm that younotice in the comics is she's.
She has a more regal senseabout her.
In the movies they definitelyplay off hallie berry strengths
and make her more americanizedand stuff, but I think in the
comics and animated show thatprincess aspect of her comes out
more, because in the comics Ibelieve, if I'm incorrect, she
does end up marrying BlackPanther.
Oh interesting.
(01:03:36):
I don't know if they'll be ableto do that at this point,
anything's possible, but I thinkshe'll just nail it.
She just has a great actingability and she has a presence
about her especially and it'llbe cool to see her just get to
do crazy storm stuff yeah, thatwould be really neat yeah, for
sure, cass.
Who do you have?
Cass (01:03:53):
um, I did pick another
screen person, but again, that
was accidental.
Um, this is who I picked rightaway for my storm, because I
just I liked the idea of her.
For this I went jasmine savewaybrown, which she's in the
latest screen movies, and youwould also know her from yellow
jackets she plays as oh I can'tthink of her name, ali.
Aly (01:04:13):
I know you watch it too
yeah, I can't think of her name,
but I know who you're talkingabout.
Cass (01:04:16):
But I thought she would be
a fun choice because of she.
I feel like yellow jacketswould be a better description
for her for this rolespecifically, because in scream
she's just kind of like you knowin college, a little about
movies and things like thatwhere I feel like yellow jacket.
She has her serious momentswhere she wants to get things
done, like she's protective.
She's gonna want to get thingsdone and I really like that
(01:04:39):
actress and I would love to seeher in that sort of role but,
yeah, yeah she's, she popped upin, like you said, the scream
movies that have come outrecently.
Nick (01:04:47):
Yellow jacket seems to be
the biggest claim to fame.
Yeah, um, also was in.
Uh, spider-man miles, morales, the video game which is a
character named tinkerer, andthen she's also in wolfenstein
youngblood, so for video gamefans, that's cool.
So you're still going into thatmindset of that.
She's a younger x-men that'sbeing trained up by professor x,
so I'm starting to see whereyour cast is going for sure yeah
(01:05:08):
and that's.
And I think again, like we said, like that's kind of it's like
are we going to have adult x-menor like are we going to have
like the young again, kind ofthe young training?
Because you kind of get thatwith apocalypse and dark phoenix
, where they're young but it'salmost like they're teenage
young.
Like here you're, I thinkyou're going.
It seems like you're going morelike post-high school kind of
age range.
Cass (01:05:26):
Maybe yeah, like it's at
least like the mid, yeah, like I
guess you could say likemid-20s Young adult.
I would say yeah, yeah, forsure Okay, very cool.
Aly (01:05:34):
I like it Allie.
Nick (01:05:35):
who's your Storm?
Aly (01:05:36):
My Storm, so she was in
Game of Thrones and it would be
interesting to have her as Storm, and it's Natalie Emanuel.
Nick (01:05:45):
That was my second choice.
Was that your second choice?
Aly (01:05:48):
Yeah, I thought she would
be really fun and plus, give her
a little bit more screen time,because I don't.
She's one where I think shecame out with a movie this year
but I had never heard of it, andit's just like man.
Give her some more stuff, because I really liked her as
and I Missandei.
She was incredible as it.
Nick (01:06:05):
She's also in the Fast and
Furious movies.
Oh, excuse me, my bad I don'tknow if she's in all of them.
She was in Fast, I know,furious 7.
She was in Fast X, so yeah, she's still going on.
She's coming out in the newFrancis Ford Coppola wild
looking movie, megalopolis ohinteresting.
So she's going to have fun in ahorror movie kind of concept.
Cass (01:06:27):
Yeah, agreed.
Nick (01:06:28):
But yeah, I'm down for
more.
Natalie Emanuel, for sure.
Aly (01:06:31):
I think that's how you say
it.
I like her, but I think it'sNatalie.
Nick (01:06:35):
For sure.
No, I think all three of thoseare solid choices and different
directions.
For sure I think Natalie isgoing to lean more towards the
Halle Berry kind ofrepresentation and like Cass's
pick will be more a little olderversion of what we saw in
Apocalypse and stuff as well.
Yeah, okay, this one's gonna betough, I think yeah, gambit
Remy Laboe yeah, voiced by ChrisPotter, tony Daniels and AJ
(01:06:57):
Locascio in the cartoon.
He was played one time by TaylorKitsch in Wolverine Origins.
There was supposed to be aChanning Tatum spinoff Gambit
movie.
That never happened.
Aly (01:07:08):
Never came to be.
I don't know how I feel aboutthat.
I don't either.
Nick (01:07:11):
Yeah, taylor Kitsch.
You'll know him.
He was in John Carter If you'rea big sci-fi fan, but he's
mainly known for Friday NightLights, true Detective, season 2
.
And he was in the movierecently, american Assassin,
which apparently, apparently, was better than expected.
I didn't watch it, but I'veheard decent things be said
about it.
Aly (01:07:27):
I really liked him as
Gambit too.
I thought he was fun.
Nick (01:07:30):
I think that's the thing.
Like, while he wasn't comicaccurate, I think he did a
decent job in that movie.
It's just he was in that movie.
Aly (01:07:36):
He was in that movie.
Nick (01:07:38):
For those of you that
don't know, gambit is from New
Orleans, so he has that Creoleor that kind of Cajun accent.
Cajun accent.
Thank you, his thing it's hardto describe, but he has
molecular acceleration.
So basically he can mentallycreate, control and manipulate
kinetic energy.
Basically you see him throwingcards a lot and he's good at
handing in combat, but he's justknown to charge the cards that
(01:08:00):
he's has or an object orsomething.
There's a really cool scenethat I won't spoil in X-Men 97
that he does that.
That I won't spoil in X-Men 97,that he does that he charges an
explosive.
Just know he's actually morepowerful than he seems.
Cass (01:08:10):
Yeah.
Nick (01:08:14):
And I think in a new
version of X-Men that leans into
the 97 version.
I think this can be like yournext like big character, because
he's a fan favorite.
People have begged for him.
He was always the cool guy inthe games and the comics and the
movies, so I think this couldbe a chance for somebody to get
a like big breakout role here.
Aly (01:08:28):
Yeah, he's precious in the
animated show.
Nick (01:08:30):
I love him.
He's my favorite character, sowell, since he's your favorite,
you get to go first I get tohave some fun with it.
Aly (01:08:40):
This person has a lot of
range as well Logan Lerman, I
think.
Nick (01:08:44):
So he's in.
Aly (01:08:44):
Perks of being a Wallflower
.
He's in Percy Jackson, he's inFury, he's in a bunch of things
like 310 to Yuma.
I mean he's in a bunch ofdifferent things and I really
like him as an actor.
I think he picks really goodroles.
Nick (01:08:56):
He comes off as like that
teen heartthrob that's just
going to be in a bunch of dumbstuff, but he makes good choices
, he's got a good filmography, good agent, yeah, well done.
Aly (01:09:04):
But yeah, I think it'd be
fun.
Nick (01:09:05):
Yeah, bullet train.
I think the thing that he willhave to overcome is that baby
face look about himself.
Aly (01:09:11):
Yeah, because he's in his
30s.
I mean he and I are the sameage.
Nick (01:09:15):
It's weird to think about,
about him being like oh you're,
you're in your 30s now yeah, explains why you have a beard.
Aly (01:09:20):
That that makes a lot of
sense now and it's kind of
getting gray a little bit too inhis beard, but I could see I, I
would be willing to give him ashot, for sure I think it'd be
fun I think he he could play it.
Nick (01:09:30):
He was one that I even
considered for a minute as well
um cass, who did you pick?
Cass (01:09:35):
well, and it's funny
because I was thinking dylan
o'brien which those two are likethe two main ones that people
look at, like Logan Lerman andDylan O'Brien being the pretty
white boys, is kind of whattheir name is.
Aly (01:09:46):
I know what you're talking
about.
Cass (01:09:49):
But I did struggle with
this one because I was just
trying to have like a fun pick, but also someone that would be
like pining for Rogue as well.
Like I kind of wanted somethinglike that yeah.
I'm going to mess his name up,but he has recently been in a
(01:10:11):
few decent movies.
Um, the idea of you red, whiteand royal blue oh, I know who
you're talking about bottoms Iwent nicholas, uh, gallets
gallet sign okay uh, yeah, it'ssomething like that, spell it
out uh, g-a-l-l-i-t-i-z-i-n-e,maybe it's.
Aly (01:10:23):
Galitzine Purple Hearts
Would that be it.
Nick (01:10:25):
I don't know.
Aly (01:10:26):
That's just a guess.
Nick (01:10:28):
We're great at naming
names, yeah we are.
He's in the trailer for thismovie coming out with Anne
Hathaway, where she's likedating this younger rock star
guy.
Cass (01:10:35):
Yeah, that's, it's based
off of yeah, okay, cool, cool
cool yeah, I thought he would bekind of a fun pick where I
wanted to see him kind of like, you know, in his moments where
he's unserious but still kind oflike funny, like like and cute
around brogue and I don't know.
I thought he would be kind offun, especially since he's like
kind of new and upcoming rightnow, yeah, that's a good pick it
kind of reminds me a little bitof adam driver's uh filmography
(01:10:58):
before he got into star wars.
Nick (01:11:01):
There's bottoms, there's
uh red, white, royal, blue, like
you said.
Yeah, a lot of just tv showsand interesting like indie work
going on.
So I I don't know a lot abouthim, but looking at him it's
like, yeah, I can see whatyou're talking about.
Yeah, in his imdb picture he'sbeing very, very like yeah the
stare across the room yeahcharacter which is kind of what
gambit is he's?
he's that loner type that's kindof like cool and confident all
(01:11:23):
the time but kind of openshimself up to rogue.
And that's where you see hisheart kind of come out.
Aly (01:11:28):
Yeah, and I may or may not
have watched the idea of you,
but yeah, that's a good choicebecause he definitely can play
like the.
He can definitely play the part.
I could see him being Gambit.
Nick (01:11:47):
Awesome, play the part.
I could see him being gambitawesome.
Yes, thank you.
I knew that you had seen it.
I didn't know if nick was gonnahave any idea.
Don't judge me, I'm not.
That's on my list.
I mean, why would I not watchit?
Okay, so, like I was alludingto earlier, I think this is
where you throw some money.
Okay, I think this is the new, this is the role.
This is can be what wolverinewas to the original series of
movies.
Gambit, if you done right, canbe what Wolverine was to the
original series of movies.
Gambit, if you done right.
Can be that character, thebreakout character that
everybody loves and wants todress up as, and it's like that
(01:12:08):
dude's super cool which leaves.
I was, I was teeter, totteringbetween two people, but I ended
up going OK, if we're going tothrow money at this person, it's
Austin Butler.
Aly (01:12:16):
OK.
Cass (01:12:17):
I think I considered him.
Nick (01:12:19):
I can see that it's a
little on the nose.
It is the fan cast everyonetalks about, but I think, like
in terms of what I visualize asgambit being that cool character
that speaks really cool, austinbutler's proven he could do
accents and stuff multiple timesover.
He's kind of a heartthrob, so Ithink he can play that kind of
mysterious type of person.
If you don't know who austinbutler is, I'm sorry he was in
(01:12:41):
dune 2.
He's the crazy bald guy in that.
He was elvis presley recently.
That's kind of the main thing.
But he also popped up in thingslike once upon a time in
hollywood the dead don't die,and this year he's coming out in
the bike riders with tom hardy.
Oh that's right and jody comeryeah, so it was supposed to come
out last year and then theydelayed it and I was upset by it
.
But I do, I think this could bea role that could be a breakout
(01:13:03):
thing for a star.
He's already a breakout star,but I think it's a role that
could be big.
We could finally get some spinoff or he could become somewhat
of a focus, because the old oneswere about Wolverine and Jean
and Cyclops' whole dynamic.
Aly (01:13:22):
And I think if you want to
freshen up the X-men, you focus
on gambit and rogue.
Nick (01:13:24):
Yeah, I agree with that.
Aly (01:13:25):
Yeah, respect as their
comic accurate selves so long as
he drops the cajun accent, rather than, kind of like with
elvis, he had the accent forlike a year or two after the
movie came out or something.
Nick (01:13:33):
It's like austin.
I mean he's gonna be in like 20movies, it's like successful,
so he might be stuck with it fora while, oh my god, well,
speaking of rogue, we're at thatpoint, we're we're nearing the
top.
We promise there's only fourpeople left of this giant x-men
list.
But rogue, if you don't know, she was originally in the first
(01:13:54):
films.
She was played by anna paquin.
Most people will know her fromtrue blood, but she, she was
also in things like Trick orTreat.
She got an Oscar the youngestactress to get an Oscar in the
piano in the early 90s.
Rogue was voiced by Lenore Zanein the TV show.
She's from Mississippi, so shealso has kind of that Cajun
accent to her.
In the comics, in the movie, again, like I said, they watered
(01:14:17):
her down, they made her theteenager.
They, again, like I said, theywatered her down, they made her
the teenager.
They didn't give her a lot todo, but in her powers that she
absorbs life, energy and powersand oftentimes personality
actually.
So sometimes she'll suck,she'll suck, she'll absorb
somebody and kind of part ofthem will be a part of her for a
while, depending on how longshe's been in contact with them.
Now, the thing that people willget confused about because even
(01:14:38):
I got confused watching 97 waslike wait, why can she fly?
Why does she have superhumanstrength and all the stuff.
So in the comics and theycovered it in the TV show
previously she absorbs CaptainMarvel's powers so kind of a big
deal to maybe potentially steal.
If they do that storyline whereshe could steal Captain
Marvel's powers, it's possible.
Or they could just build it inas like depending if it's a
(01:14:59):
multiverse thing she couldalready have those powers.
There's a whole trajectory theycould go with her.
So I'm really excited tohopefully see like an accurate
comic, accurate rogue in thesemovies for sure that would be
really cool yes, indeed, cass,I'm gonna go with you first.
Who so?
Cass (01:15:13):
I had a couple.
Oh sorry, who do you choose?
I?
I had a couple of people that Iwanted for rogue.
I just wanted to see, like, whowould fit like not even the
accent part of it, but if wewanted to go that way, I still
think that this actress would doit.
But I kind of went back andforth.
I thought olivia cook at onepoint, because I thought she
would have fun with that role, yeah I ended up deciding daisy
(01:15:36):
edgar jones oh I was consideringher, who is in the movie fresh
um, where the crawl decks crawl, dad sing um also did the show
normal people.
Nick (01:15:46):
Yeah.
Cass (01:15:47):
But I just thought she
would be.
I honestly just like how herenergy wasn't fresh and how she
could be for role for rogueSorry.
Nick (01:15:56):
That's a pretty solid pick
yeah.
Yeah, I didn't think about her,but she's coming out in the new
in the twisters movie, uh, injuly.
But yeah, I I think she I don'tknow, I don't know her outside
of that kind of persona butit'll be.
I think she's got a good lookabout her, that she seems to be
a really good actress from whatI hear and see yeah, I didn't
finish watching normal people.
Cass (01:16:16):
It is a good show, but
even like in that, like she's
just kind of playing, like it'skind of like that love story, so
I I can see her with gambit anddoing a really good like duo.
Yeah, I see that?
Nick (01:16:28):
that makes sense for sure.
Yeah, ali, who do you got forrogue?
Aly (01:16:32):
uh, so I um.
When I put this person down, Iwas thinking about who I cast
for gambit and thought that theywould play off each other
pretty well.
Uh, I'm bringing you l fanning,who is.
Nick (01:16:41):
Dakota Fanning's younger
sister.
Aly (01:16:43):
She was in Maleficent 1 and
2.
She was also in the Great andshe was in Neon Demon.
I think that she is.
I like her acting.
I think that she's a goodactress.
Nick (01:16:52):
I think the breakout for
her has been great.
Aly (01:16:54):
It's a.
Nick (01:16:54):
TV show with Nicholas Holt
.
Aly (01:16:55):
With Nicholas Holt.
Nick (01:16:56):
Yeah, it's, yeah, it's a
weird period piece, but it's
also got like very graphic, ifI'm not mistaken maybe I should
watch this, um, but no, I thinkshe, yeah, she seems to make a
lot of interesting choices, acting wise, and so I haven't.
I don't know what the accentthing is what threw me off of my
casting for sure.
So I was very much like I don'tknow, because rogue's very much
a rebel character in the tvshow and stuff.
(01:17:17):
She's not the more quiet, mousykind of character.
There's some elements of therebelliousness In the movies
that we see, but it's neverreally fully formed, like you
see in the comics and stuff.
So this one was one of theharder ones I had to pick with.
I had a lot of big names.
I thought about it, alexanderDaddario here.
I even thought of names likeMia Goth, and I thought about
(01:17:37):
Kristen Stewart.
But Kristen Stewart says she'llnever, she doesn't want to do
Marvel movies.
They'd have like she'd have toget like a good director to do
it.
So I'm like she'd be great.
I don't think.
But if I'm trying to predictsomething, she's not going to be
in it.
So right, my pick is going tobe Margaret Qualley oh, she was
one I was thinking of as well ifyou don't know her, she was in
Driveaway Dolls this year.
(01:17:58):
She, she was the hippie girlthat brad Pitt picks up in once
upon a time in hollywood.
She was in poor things lastyear and she's going to be in
kinds of kindness the samedirector, uh, this year.
But she's been popping up hereand there all over the place in
the leftovers, the nice guysdeath stranding.
She, I guess, played a voicecharacter.
She was in the netflix deathnote, I believe.
So she's been on the come up.
(01:18:18):
I mean, I mean, when you'reAndy McDowell's daughter, you
get those opportunities Nepotism.
But she's proven that she'searned her way into this role
and type of role.
But I think she especially inDrive Away Dolls.
That's much more of like a EastTexas kind of like kick accent.
But she's proven, she can kindof lean into that and has a cute
sensibility to her as well.
(01:18:39):
So I think she'll have a lot offun with that role if she was
to be picked for that.
Aly (01:18:43):
I agree that's a good one.
Nick (01:18:45):
Okay, we got three left.
We're going to knock outprobably the biggest name that
everybody's waiting to see rightnow, actually, because, again,
I don't know where this is allgoing to line up.
The last three we have isWolverine, jean Grey and Cyclops
, but we're going to start withWolverine, who's still played by
Hugh Jackman.
This year he will be played onemore time and maybe more times,
depending on where they go withall this multiverse stuff.
(01:19:05):
But if you don't know whoWolverine is, he's a Canadian.
In the comics he's 5'3" but inour movie, in the current movie,
he's 6'2" played by HughJackman, just muscles.
He's an outsider, he's a lonerof the group.
He became the big star of themovies.
Uh, any which way they couldfind a way to put him in.
He has regenerative healing, retractable claws that get put
(01:19:26):
metal on him.
He's got a whole backstory thatthey dive into about it and
he's kind of got the supermanthing where, like in the comics,
it's like they give him powerswhere they need to, so, like
acute senses, strength andstamina, gets the.
The power level gets changeddepending.
But listen, in the 90s he wasthe dude.
In 2000s he was the dude.
He's still the dude.
So it's going to be interestingto see a what they do with him
(01:19:48):
post hugh jackman, yeah, andwhere they go with it if they
choose to be more comic, accurate and kind of get a
smaller guy to play him.
I'm interested to see what youguys do.
Um, I guess I'll go first, since it's my turn, technically
I don't know.
I think we we've all, we've allhopped around a little bit but
I'm just gonna throw you myopinion on it is I don't think
he should be in the first movieoh, okay, interesting I think,
(01:20:09):
this is giving friday the 13th,I think uh, I know, I know.
I say he shouldn't be in themovie.
I think he should be the teaseat the end oh, okay, okay I
think you build up everybodyelse, you focus on gambit and
rogue, you get professor x andthem established, and then he's,
you get the whole idea of thex-men looking for more x-men and
he's the next guy.
Yeah, these the t's for thenext movie, because we've we've
(01:20:31):
seen wolverine, we lovewolverine, we've seen all of it
yeah, and it's, it's and firstclass.
They gave us a break.
He had a cameo in it so I thinkthat you can.
It's, it's oh.
To really set it apart and toreally be like this is x-men.
This is going to be a differenttake.
You tease him for later on andI couldn't find a great one, uh,
in my opinion but I did findsomeone that I thought he could.
(01:20:53):
He could do the job, I think.
I think he could do it.
Aly (01:20:55):
I'm going with alden
einrich oh he, I was thinking
about him as well.
Nick (01:20:59):
If you don't know him, he
was young Han Solo and deserved
to be Han Solo even further, butStar Wars is afraid of people
that aren't named Harrison Fordbut he's also in Oppenheimer
recently did a great jobopposite Robert Downey Jr.
You've seen him in Cocaine Bear.
That was a fun movie, I think hejust has a good range about him
and I think he could also havesome some uh grit to him and he
(01:21:20):
could probably put on a littlemuscle.
He's not a huge guy but I thinkhe he's an actor.
You can get him to shape up andhe'd be great for the role.
Yeah, yeah, ali, who do you gotif you were thinking of alden,
but who do?
Aly (01:21:30):
you, I was thinking of him.
Um, so this one I thought wouldbe good, because he does have a
very intimidating looking face, and I think that's one thing
with wolverine, as he'sintimidating sure so I decided
to go with wyatt russell.
Oh, so he is in the onlyproblem what is that he's in the
captain america?
Nick (01:21:48):
yeah how could?
A winter soldier?
Yeah, but I see where yourbrain's at, I see where your
heart's at wyatt russell.
He, he's, he's really good he'sbecause he was in.
He was in the spinoff with uh,the godzilla spinoff, what's it
called, I can't remember.
Cass (01:22:04):
He's also joined to jump
street to name a few other
things he was in night swim aswell.
Nick (01:22:10):
Not to cut you off.
I apologize, you're fine, I'mjust trying to.
I'm trying to ad lib here togive you some time here.
Cass (01:22:14):
Ally dale monarch is the
tv series just she could keep it
honestly, because we don't.
Aly (01:22:20):
I was so happy for that one
.
I was so excited you got.
Cass (01:22:24):
You got chris evans, as
you know, johnny storm, and you
know what that's america, but inthe same universe, guys.
Nick (01:22:31):
That's all I'm saying.
Aly (01:22:33):
You know, man, I have a
twin, and you know what's sad, I
even wrote it down he was inthe show and it just didn't even
it didn't you're like yeah, Iwas like.
Nick (01:22:43):
Oh, yeah, he was in, that,
sure, okay, yeah that's so
funny.
That's the Marvel problem.
There's so much going on thatyou're like oh yeah, they were
in that crap.
But while Allie recuperateshere, cass, who is your pick for
Wolverine?
Cass (01:22:55):
well, I will admit, the
person that I picked was in thor
, love and thunder, but to me itwasn't as important okay
because of the role that heplayed, ali might like this pick
okay because I think she likedthis character a lot in ted
lasso.
But I thought that he would bea really, really fun pick
because I was trying to get thatedge.
You already know who I'm goingwith.
(01:23:15):
Yep, I wanted that like toughlook, the intimidating look, and
that could almost give thatsame vibe as Hugh Jackman.
So I went Brett Brett Goldstein.
Aly (01:23:23):
That's a good one.
Nick (01:23:25):
Brett Goldstein, or
Goldstein, depending on who you
ask.
Yeah, no, I've seen him before.
I haven't watched it last, soyet.
But the look, he's definitelygot a look about him and clearly
he's got the hearts won over bysome people.
Aly (01:23:36):
He is an absolute babe.
I saw him in December hiscomedy act.
Nick (01:23:38):
So he's a comedian.
Aly (01:23:39):
Yeah, he does stand up
comedy as well.
Which?
Nick (01:23:42):
is interesting because
Hugh Jackman's a theater kid.
This is true.
Nobody was going to put that ontheir bingo card.
Hey, who's going to play thistough guy?
That's a killer.
Aly (01:23:54):
That guy that was in Beauty
and the.
Nick (01:23:56):
Beast.
But no, I think that's yeah,he's got a good look about him
and it would be interesting tosee him kind of play that
version of a character and it'slike in ted lasso.
Cass (01:24:05):
He's like he's a little
tough in ted lasso as well,
where it's just he plays a goodguy, but it's like still tough,
still reserved I can just seethat vibe for wolverine.
Aly (01:24:14):
That's a really, really
good pick I really like that one
I didn't even, he didn't evencross my mind.
That's wild.
Nick (01:24:19):
Oh, he's crossing your
mind right now.
Cass (01:24:20):
Well, I mean he crosses my
mind, but oh because I was like
looking at Letterboxd for likecast list and stuff and I popped
on the Garfield movie and I sawbut I was like oh wait a minute
.
Aly (01:24:29):
That's a new character and
then do nothing with it.
Yeah.
Cass (01:24:41):
So that's why I was.
When I saw that, I was like youknow what?
No one's going to think much ofit, it's fine.
Nick (01:24:46):
You guys are breaking
rules, all right.
Aly (01:24:48):
We're breaking the rules.
Left him right here, guys, allright.
Cass (01:24:51):
I'm giving him something
bigger.
There you go.
Nick (01:24:53):
We're on the.
Let's break these down.
Jean Grey or, as some peoplecall her, phoenix, dark Phoenix.
She is a prominent characterthroughout all of the comics,
all the movies, all the games.
She was originally played inthe TV show by Catherine Disher
and Jennifer Hale.
I don't know how to say thisactress's name, but in the movie
(01:25:14):
she was Femek Jensen.
Aly (01:25:17):
Okay, yeah, she's Danish.
Nick (01:25:21):
I don't know how you say
her name and then later on
played by Sophie Turner of Gameof Thrones fame.
Uh, jensen is known fromGoldenEye, so she was Xenia on
top oh my god if you remember, she's the one that crushes men
and with her thighs.
So if you have a death wish, Iguess go hit her up.
But she's also in House onHaunted Hill.
That's another one of herthings.
But Jean Grey is an Omega levelmutant.
(01:25:42):
She has telekinesis likeProfessor X.
She often struggles with herpowers or is overtaken by other
forces.
In the comics the Phoenix isfrom space and then in the movie
they just made it like it wasthis hidden power within her
kind of thing.
And you've watched Dark Phoenixcast.
Was it a space thing that tookover her in that one?
Has it been too long?
(01:26:03):
Did you erase?
It's been?
Cass (01:26:03):
too long.
I tried to erase as much as Icould.
It was just more of like Ithink she was influenced by a
lot of, like, bad people thatwere trying to get her to like
use her powers for yeah like bad, okay, but it was just for evil
, but it was.
It was a lot and sophie turnerdidn't do a bad job, but it was
just not also the problem waswe'd seen it before yeah I don't
(01:26:23):
know why they chose to retreadthe whole dark phoenix saga.
Nick (01:26:26):
Because they did it.
I mean, I guess they thought, well, x-men, last stand sucked,
so let's try it again.
Cass (01:26:30):
But then it sucked again
yeah, the problem was with the
dark phoenix is again as wetalked about, with mystique and
professor x's friendship andthen the things that happened in
Dark Phoenix.
Like spoiler alert guysMystique dies in the beginning
of Dark Phoenix.
Nick (01:26:44):
Yeah, that's wild.
I need to watch this now justto be like how are they handling
this?
Cass (01:26:47):
Yes, so what I read?
Nick (01:26:49):
because we talked about
this the other day.
It was like, how does this makesense?
Because the thought was it allleads up to the original X-Men
movies, but actually whathappens is Days of Future Past
creates a new timeline.
Aly (01:27:00):
Oh, okay, okay.
Nick (01:27:00):
So, like the original,
x-men led to the events in the
future and by changing it now, apocalypse and Dark Phoenix is
the future.
Okay, I was confused by thattoo, because I was like, yeah,
that doesn't make any sense atall.
Cass (01:27:11):
Why would they kill
Mystique?
But it's still the point oflike everyone is still all
together, like if you have likeRogue and Iceman get together.
So it's just.
I feel like there still shouldbe some sort of like falling out
on Cause.
I feel like there's somethingat the end of dark Phoenix.
I want you to see it foryourself.
Okay, if you watch it Cause, then I think you'll understand
why I was so confused.
Nick (01:27:29):
Gotcha, gotcha, gotcha.
Well, cass, since you're theexpert of dark Phoenix, who is
your?
Jean gray, I?
Cass (01:27:36):
I was actually really
proud of this one.
I got this one last minute.
I went.
I don't know if a lot of peopleare going to know who she is,
but I'll be able to say whatshe's been in.
But it's Riley Okay.
Nick (01:27:47):
Oh yeah, I know what
you're talking about, riley
Riley Keough.
Cass (01:27:51):
I think it's Keough Cause.
I did actually look up thepronunciation, riley.
Nick (01:27:54):
Keough yeah Known she was
one of the brides she's an
american honey, daisy jones andthe six daisy jones and the six.
Okay, yes, that's a.
That's that tv show.
She's also logan lucky.
If you've seen logan lucky, youshould check that out.
It's a fun one.
No, she's, definitely she's.
She married the guitarist frommad max fury road, the guy on
the on the, the flame flamingyeah, and she's related to elvis
(01:28:17):
press.
Yeah, she's like hisgranddaughter or something.
Okay, that's right's right.
Okay, nepotism.
Cass (01:28:23):
I just thought she was a
fun role because I have seen her
in a lot of different stuff, like Daisy Jones and Six.
I watched her in this moviecalled Zola.
I think that's what it's called, and she just has this fun
personality to her and I couldsee her doing this serious role
of Jean Grey.
Nick (01:28:39):
Okay.
Cass (01:28:39):
She has the red hair for
it too, so Sure, but yeah, I
like it.
Nick (01:28:44):
That's a good one Very
cool.
Cass (01:28:45):
Thank you, thank you.
Nick (01:28:46):
Allie, who do you got?
Aly (01:28:48):
This one's not in the MCU,
I promise.
Nick (01:28:50):
I hope so.
I hope Love it already.
We'll see.
Yeah, this is where Iinteresting, as as Jean Grey.
Aly (01:28:57):
I thought that would be a
fun little pick, um.
So yeah I am, I'm going with alittle Olivia Cooke.
Nick (01:29:02):
Olivia Cooke's a great
actress.
Total, babe, total babe she'sgreat in House of the Dragon,
ready Player One.
If that's where you know herfrom, she does a great job in
all those things.
I think she could.
She could play a really good uh, jean Grey lead into the
Phoenix, if they decide to tapinto that at all.
I think it'd be fun.
My, I agree.
I think both of those are greatchoices.
If, whoever they end up pickingfor jean gray, I hope that it's
(01:29:23):
.
My hope is that they've movedpast the idea like.
The idea is that the phoenixthing's already happened and
that she's a more confidentversion of herself.
I'm seeing her and scott cyclopsas, like the professor, parents
yeah, in the world and thatwhile she's still maybe messing
with it, it's still thisuntapped energy that she can
lean into.
I don't want to cover the darkPhoenix thing again.
It's totally fair, we don't.
(01:29:44):
I don't want to see it againunless it's just like she has to
tap into that power, basically.
But it's she knows how tocontrol it, kind of thing.
We're moving past it.
We're moving past the dark timepast the trauma and I'm oh,
(01:30:08):
that's a good one.
People know her as dolores fromwestworld, she's in across the
universe, she's the mom fromfrozen 2 and she's in the weird
owl movie as madonna.
Yeah, she is.
I think she just has a great uhuh ability.
Whether it's in musical form, whether it's in drama form or in
sci-fi, like with westworld, Ithink she just is a great
actress.
She's obviously attractive.
All these actresses are we'rein hollywood, everyone's
attractive but I think I justthink she has the right uh, the
right uh level of uh temperance,if you will like, as an actress
(01:30:28):
, to kind of be thatlevel-headed uh mother kind of
figure to the rest of the x-menand then also like the
supportive role for our, ourcyclops.
But then also, when push comesto shove, you're gonna be like
you're about to see what I'm allabout yeah, yeah oh crap yeah,
you don't want to mess with herright exactly, yeah, I love all
three of those choices.
Cass (01:30:46):
I think either there's
there's strengths to all of them
, for sure, I think rileydefinitely leans into that.
Nick (01:30:51):
The younger idea that you
have cass, and then, uh, I like
olivia cook, just in general.
Cass (01:30:56):
So I think you can trade
her with evan and mine as well,
I think, I think riley is only ayear, a year younger than, uh,
evan rachel.
Nick (01:31:02):
That's crazy, yeah, yeah
okay, so the last one and I.
The reason I put him at the top, cyclops scott summers, leader
of the team of x-men, is becausehe, of all the people that got
nerfed in the movies, I feellike poor scott got nerfed the
worst yep yeah he was just apushover yeah like re-watching
the first two movies.
(01:31:23):
You're just like man.
They made you so lame yeah, theymade you such a like and you've
got hugh jackman wolverine overhere being cool, so it's just
like what can you do?
But, man, james marston, I'm sosorry they did that to you and
he that was like his breakoutrole too, like he goes on to be
in hairspray and enchanted andyou get to see like this guy has
a lot of talent, he's great,yeah, and then he's, he's also
(01:31:44):
in westworld.
So I'm kind of in my, in mycasting, I guess I, I.
Cass (01:31:48):
There's some connective
tissue there but I'd like to
think that days of future, past,at least, gave him something
towards the end when he like was, like you know, like, all he
does is come back to me like, hey, that's my girl but it's
still at least like he's not put, like being a pushover, being
like, oh you know what, screw it, wolverine, have her like just
back to base form.
Nick (01:32:05):
Basically, he's just like
oh whatever, I got my paycheck,
I'm out, uh, but scott.
So if you don't know who scottsummers actually is, he's
actually from anchorage alaska,in the comics oh he is the
leader of the x-men uh, he's ina relationship with Jean Grey.
His power he shoots beams outof his eyes.
But, to be more correct, he'scapable of generating concussive
(01:32:25):
force-based red-colored beams.
And that and you'll see in theshow Allie, if you keep watching
X-Men 97, has levels to it.
And you'll be like oh, there's areason.
Scott Summers is cool, but theydo such a good job in 97 of
like redeeming him and remindingpeople like this dude's cool
Like cause he has a captainAmerica kind of very serious
kind of about him.
(01:32:46):
But and and like the dynamicwhen they have, like Nathan
cable, the son being brought in,there's that family father
dynamic kind of going on.
He's an interesting characterand I think my hope is that in
this new movie he'll be given alot more to do and flex in those
in this movie, agreed, um, mypick for it.
I'll just go right off the batyeah is this is also.
This is the other part I throwmoney at.
(01:33:07):
He said he doesn't want to dobig tentpole movies or marvel
movies.
But damn it, glenn powell, youwere born to be cyclops, so
you're gonna put on that visorand you're gonna like it because
enjoy it.
This dude's the next big moviestar he's.
He was in Top Gun, maverickAnyone, but you blew up this
year with Sidney Sweeney.
Twisters is coming out thisyear and he's got this hitman
movie that's apparently going tocome out.
I hope it does.
Well, looks interesting.
But Glenn Powell, uh, sorry, bud, but you better start
(01:33:30):
learning how to lead the x-men.
Cass (01:33:31):
He he kept.
He kept popping up, like when Iwas on Letterboxd looking for
stuff because there was like alot of his movies like there was
a movie that I watched that hewas in, not even for him I
watched for, like other peopleyeah, it's called everybody
wants some yeah, yeah and it'slike a movie that I didn't think
a lot of people knew, becauseanytime I brought it up to
people they're like what, whatare you talking?
What is this movie?
Nick (01:33:50):
it's the spiritual sequel
to that director's uh other
movie.
That name escapes me.
Right now everybody wants someglenn powell.
It's directed by RichardLinklater, who directed the
movies Before Sunrise.
Boyhood, dazed and Confused isthe movie.
I believe that is a spiritualsequel Okay, interesting yeah.
But yeah, that's a good oneGlenn.
(01:34:11):
Powell's my pick.
Cass (01:34:11):
He also has that face.
Aly (01:34:13):
He's got the face of being
a leader of, like a superhero
team?
Nick (01:34:16):
Yeah, Allie, who do you
have?
Aly (01:34:19):
I'm not confident about
mine.
I'll be honest.
I really struggled with thisone because I was thinking glenn
powell I can't remember if itwas this one or another one but
his name was popping up and Iwas like, oh, I don't know about
him.
Um, I'm not really happy withmy choice, if I'm being honest,
but that's okay, we're gonna do.
Uh, jeremy allen, right, Ithink that he would be an
interesting white.
Is it white?
Nick (01:34:37):
I thought it was right oh
my god I wrote it down wrong
because I'm a dumb dumb yeahyeah, yeah.
Aly (01:34:42):
So he's in shameless.
He's in the bear.
He's also an iron claw.
Um, he's been showing to havesome range as well, and I think
that would be interesting.
Nick (01:34:49):
Um, yeah no, I think
that's a solid choice.
I I think he.
I'm wondering if he'll want tobe in marvel movies which is
totally fair.
He's one of those guys that I'mlike.
Maybe money, but also he seemsto enjoy doing smaller stuff and
he was great in the Iron Claw.
Aly (01:35:02):
Yeah, he was really good.
Cass (01:35:05):
And I considered him a
couple of times for this list,
but I was like I feel like Ihave too much of a celebrity
crush on him to pick him.
I'm proud of you, as Itechnically picked a celebrity
crush for Cyclops.
Nick (01:35:18):
We were so close.
Cass (01:35:19):
Yeah, I know close.
I like Jeremy Allen White.
I think he has a lot of rangeand I'm glad to see that he's
getting the recognition.
Nick (01:35:25):
He could also be a good
Wolverine.
Cass (01:35:26):
I could see that.
I could see that too.
Aly (01:35:29):
I think he's got a lot of
shorter side too, so it might
work out.
Nick (01:35:32):
And he got Buff and Iron
Claw.
Aly (01:35:34):
Dude's massive.
There's no doubt about that.
Sorry to get on a tangent thatanyway.
Nick (01:35:40):
Sorry to get on a tangent,
but I gotta write this movie
down, sorry to interrupt.
Cass (01:35:42):
You cast, but who?
Who is your pick?
I'm gonna struggle with thelast name, but I actually think
it's funny with who ali pickedfor her.
Uh, jean gray, just because I II picked someone from bates
motel as well, and it is anactor.
He's mainly in tv, but he wasin the movie called the Pacifier
in the past.
He was at House at the End ofthe Street with Jennifer
(01:36:03):
Lawrence.
I went Max Taryat, it'ssomething like that.
I always say Taryat, but that'snot how you pronounce it at all
.
Aly (01:36:12):
It might be Thoreau or
something like that I don't know
.
Nick (01:36:15):
I think you're absolutely
right, he's supposed to lead the
X-Men and you can't evenpronounce his name.
The he's supposed to lead theX-Men, you can't even pronounce
his name.
Cass (01:36:20):
The shame of it all I have
struggled with his name for
years, like since being a fan,max Theriot, that would be my
best guess yeah, theriot.
Yeah, so Max Theriot.
Nick (01:36:28):
I recognize him now, yeah.
Cass (01:36:29):
He was in Jumper.
Yeah, a lot of TV.
Okay, I'm seeing it now, Ithought he would be a really,
really good leader.
Leader and especially like, because Bates Motel didn't stick
with like the Norman Batesstory at all okay because he was
pretty much his character waslike Norman's half brother, so
he still plays like a leadingrole, like being like the older
brother.
So I could see that, withCyclops being the leader caring
(01:36:52):
for Jean, I just think he wouldhave like a really good time
with it.
I again I did consider JeremyAllen White, but I was like, let
me go with someone that reallyis not recognized as much
anymore.
He was more of a kid actor, yeah, and then now he's just
kind of in TV, yeah.
Nick (01:37:06):
It'll be interesting.
Cass (01:37:07):
Yeah.
No, I struggled with this onetoo, because I was in the
mindset of like he kind of giveslike that Captain America vibe
in the show, yeah, and I wastrying to find someone that
would work perfectly.
And I was trying to findsomeone that would work
perfectly and I just I keptfalling flat.
So I ended up going with Max,just because I do like his
acting this is all jokes asideabout celebrity crushes, this is
me being 100% honest, ok, Ithink he is a good actor.
(01:37:30):
I think again he was just a kidactor.
Nick (01:37:34):
He did those small stuff.
Give him a chance to be anadult actor now.
Yeah, not do like thesefirefighter TV shows.
Yeah, I think actor now.
Yeah, and not do like thesefirefighter tv shows.
Yeah, I think that the thething that would give me pause
with someone like that is.
I think the issue with cyclopsis that the danger is he becomes
bland by being too much of acaptain america knockoff yeah,
you need someone with somecharisma yeah, to like to really
(01:37:55):
send that home and make surethat he doesn't get put to the
background by a gambit or awolverine or magneto and
professor x or rogue even, yeah.
So, yeah, those are interesting.
You stuck to your guns cast,I'll say that, and he had some.
Yes, what, what, but the fairthing, though, is like we have a
lot of big names that have beentossed around, and the thing is
that, with these, with thesebig ensemble casts, they do tend
(01:38:17):
to pick people like this outthat we may not be super
familiar with, but you're likeoh yeah, they were in that, that
and that, so you might end upbeing more accurate than us, but
time will tell it's still, butI mean, I think we all picked
pretty like pretty solid choicesfor sure.
Cass (01:38:31):
So it's like with me I was
more kind of giving people
credit.
Nick (01:38:34):
That haven't really been
in much, so I appreciate the
thought yeah, you're giving themthe reboot, the start, the
chance to do more.
Allie and I, I think, playedmore in like some reputable
names or to people that are onthe come up or stuff or that
might need a reboot of sorts.
Cass (01:38:48):
Yeah down.
Nick (01:38:50):
So no, I think these are
all interesting choices.
It'll be interesting to seewhat they do.
I think that's going to dictatea lot of the cast, for sure, in
the direction that they go.
Yeah, but that's it.
That's our x-men.
Uh, this is a long episode, yeah, uh, sorry, but there's a
lot of x-men, so I'm not sorryabout that.
You wanted the x-men.
We're giving you the x-men.
There we go.
Um, there's longer podcasts outthere.
(01:39:10):
I promise so, but we hope youenjoyed it.
Let us know what your thoughtsare.
There's clearly too many peopleto run down the list, but we'll
, maybe we'll post it somewhere.

I like that.
Tell us we're idiots, or tell usthat we're great.
Sometimes positivereinforcement it's really
helpful.
Cass (01:39:44):
We're very sensitive
sometimes.
Nick (01:39:46):
Sometimes, yeah, Very much
so.
Well, thanks for listening.
Allie Cass, thanks for hoppingon with me.
We had a good time.
Cass (01:39:52):
Thank you, it was great.
