SPEAKER_01 (14:10):
This is JD Doyle.
You're listening to QueerVoices, and this is a mini
segment for September of my showQueer Music Heritage.
The theme is Trash Disco, asdone by LGBT artists, and we're
already rolling.

(16:20):
Of course, that was Sylvesterfrom 1979 and his classic, You
Make Me Feel Mighty Real.
Now, what is trash disco?
Well, that's a bit subjective, but to me, it was Dan's oldies,
mostly his, prior to say, 1985.
And in many cities in the yearsafter that, at local clubs,

(16:41):
music sometimes got a specialday of the week.
For example, in Houston, it wasSunday Trash Disco at the
Montrose Mining Company.
I spent many, many hours.

SPEAKER_03 (17:55):
You want that to my heart.
You got a fashion that you can'tstop.
You keep me fit through thewhole light.
I feel measuring your heart.

(18:19):
You know, I can't get enough.

(18:45):
I found a shy star.
When I look into your eyes, it'shot check.
I just found this hate baby.
I'm so happy it must be real.

(25:08):
That's why I'm watching the ladyin my platform all alone.
How I hate to spend the eveningon my own.
All two winds throwing outsidethe window as I look around the
room.
And it makes me so depressed tosee the truth.
There's not a soul out there.

(25:31):
No one should hear my prayers.
Won't somebody help me take theshadows away?
Take me through the darknesstill the break of the day.

(26:18):
It's so different from the worldI live in.
Outside of T I open the windowand I gaze into the night.
But there's nothing that yousee, no one inside.
There's not a soul out there.
No one to hear my praise.

(26:48):
Will somebody help me chase theshadows away?
Take me through the darknesstill the break of the day.
I can make it make a man at tomidnight.

(27:11):
Take me through the darknesstill I break up the day.

(27:42):
I've got to find me on him.
I want no disguises, I'm justsurprised.
Someone who I'll understand.
I don't need a guy who felllonely one night.
Then tell me he's got no moretime.
I'm looking for someone to sharemy life I better move all down

(28:06):
the line.
I'm looking for love.
I've got to find a man's exciteme, but don't invite me.

(28:42):
Don't even notice it seems I'malways waiting, anticipating all
for the man of my dreams.
You need to be handsome andwatching love, baby, just gotta
be sweet and fun.
But there's so many wanting onreading the same.

(29:04):
I got a move on down the line.
Sarden, I'm looking for love.
All the time I can search, I'mlooking for love.
I've got to find me a man.

(29:28):
Everybody's okay.
Looking for love.
I got to find a man.

unknown (30:53):
Okay.

SPEAKER_03 (35:00):
My heart's giving, my mind's dripping.
I play this scene.
Might be crazy, thinking maybecould this be the one I've been
waiting for?
Then you turn the corner, nearlylost my breath, gathered my

(35:21):
composure.
But when I looked into thoseeyes, well, that was it.
Just you, I knew, just you, knewthat I loved you, just you, I
knew, just knew, knew that Ilove you.

(35:54):
Oh, I've been in love in thepast, but nothing ever changed
that.
No, this was nothing I feltbefore.
When you got me under my skin, you took me where I've never
been.

(38:26):
It's time to know what we say.
It's time to know what we say.
There are too many places that Ican't go.

(38:48):
Everywhere's got a sign sayingno known.

SPEAKER_04 (38:54):
People pick it in peace.
It's like another kind of war.
But Peter Cradle in the town didit uproar.

SPEAKER_03 (39:04):
The color of the skin is not a sin.
And who she loves is not judgedby the one above.
It's not okay.
It's time to know what we say.

(39:26):
It's not okay.
It's time to know what we say.
Police run the people while thepeople run the streets.

(39:48):
You can run in high or badge oftime.
Cause they're going in lots.
Cause they already got love.

SPEAKER_01 (40:44):
Another song with a message.
Laura Cheadle sang that it's notokay.

I've got too many things to say.
I rock mom jeans, cat earrings, extrapolate my feelings.

(41:28):
My family is dysfunctional, butwe have a good time killing each
other.
They tell us from the time we'reyoung to hide the things that we
don't like about ourselves.
Inside ourselves.

(41:51):
Well, I'm over it.
The world knows what my secretsare.
Secrets are.

(42:12):
Secrets are.
I can't think straight.
I'm so gay.
Sometimes I cry a whole day.
I care a lot.
Use an analog clock and neverknow when to stop.

(42:35):
And I'm passive, aggressive.
I'm scared of the dark and thedentist.
I love my butt and won't shutup.
And I never really grew up.
They tell us from the time we'reyoung to hide the things that we
don't like about ourselves.
Inside ourselves.

(43:14):
Secrets are.
The world knows what my secretsare.
Secrets are.

SPEAKER_03 (48:00):
Why do you have to do that?
I won't do it now.
You just have to do that, canput my head still.
Why do you make me want youagain and again?
I'm like a telly to be jokinginto the bed.
What should I do now?
I've been around the circle.
What should I do now?
You're always looking down.
I know the ending to the spiral.

(48:30):
I know the ending to the spell.
I want the film.

(49:31):
Stop playing on the film.

unknown (49:33):
