SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
So on this episode of Quirks, Bumps, and Bruises,
Parker Webb and I sit down andtalk all things Thanksgiving.
So in this particular season ofyour life, what are you
especially thankful for?
It's Melody and it's Parker hereon the morning joy ride.
So Parker, we go through seasonsof life.

(00:20):
We're just in different placesat different times.
So I know you're thankful foryour family.
I know that you're thankful forthe Lord who saved you.
And I know some of the thingsthat you're thankful for.
But in this season of your life, besides those things, what are
you especially thankful for?

SPEAKER_01 (00:36):
Well, this year, you know, and I I obviously talking
about family, and this is inthat vein of family, because we
had a we had a tough year thispast year with my dad having
some major health issues.
And even his doctors at thispoint, literally one year
removed or uh since his problemsbegan, his doctors are just

(00:57):
blown away.
And some of them even using thewords miracle.
Well, we know why don't we?
Of course we do.
And that's exactly what we'rewe're saying is a miracle.
And so I'm especially thankful.
You know, I've lost all mygrandparents, but they lived to
be up in their 90s.
My dad is in his early 70s.
So I I used to think, oh, what'slife gonna be like without my

(01:17):
grandparents?
I I thought that for decades.
Oh, that's gonna be so awful.
And uh and it and it is, I missthem dearly, but never thought
that we would be talking aboutpotentially losing my dad early.
Because you thought you may.
We thought we might, and wedidn't know if he was gonna make
it to Christmas last year.
So at this time last year, hewas very ill.
Very ill.
He was in the hospital uh quitea bit.

(01:38):
And um and so now, thank theLord, he's not a hundred
percent, but he's on his wayback.

SPEAKER_00 (01:43):
He's gonna be able to sit around that Thanksgiving
table and enjoy it.

SPEAKER_01 (01:46):
Last year he could not eat because of fluid that
had gr had built up and all thatkind of stuff.
He could not eat hisThanksgiving meal.
This year, he's gonna be able toplow into that dish as hard as
he can.

SPEAKER_00 (01:56):
Y'all pile that plate up for him.
That's right.

SPEAKER_01 (01:58):
It's gonna be high, high, and we're gonna put gravy
on everything.
So I'm especially thankful forwhat the Lord has done in my
dad's life.

SPEAKER_00 (02:06):
Right.
Right.
That's awesome.
Well, you have that chance aswell to tell us what you are
especially thankful for in thisseason of your life.
You can call or text888-985-6936.
So, Parker, I'm gonna ask youthis question.
Yes.
You're sitting at yourThanksgiving table.
Right.

(02:26):
And you have just a buffet ofdeliciousness in front of you.
Yep.
What is your first bite?

SPEAKER_01 (02:35):
Uh, hands down, my mom's twice-baked potatoes.
Oh, I love those.
Oh, she does it for Thanksgivingand for Christmas Eve, because
we have a big Christmas Evedinner.
And so it's that, I mean, thethe cheese just melting off.
I've burnt my tongue because Icannot wait to get it in my
mouth.
And uh then I'm calloused forthe next several days on the

(02:55):
tub.

SPEAKER_00 (02:56):
Yeah, I I make those.
And uh you cannot not likethose, right?
I know.
Well, mine, and I mentioned thisearlier this week, is a creamed
corn dish.
It's very easy to make, but inthis cream corn is a whole block
of cream cheese.

SPEAKER_01 (03:10):
Oh, wow.

SPEAKER_00 (03:11):
So it and you just let that cream cheese melt all
into the corn.

SPEAKER_01 (03:15):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (03:15):
A little salt and pepper, a little butter in
there, and that's it.
It is just melting your mouthgood.
Oh, I want that recipe too.
Oh, that's I mean, I'm not gonnamake it.

SPEAKER_01 (03:23):
I'm gonna have pass it off to you.
It's a crock pot recipe, supereasy.
Oh, that sounds wonderful.

SPEAKER_00 (03:28):
Great to take to like a church function.
Absolutely.
So, first bites, and we talkedabout this a little bit earlier
this week, and if you didn'thave a chance to weigh in on
that question, we'd love you toanswer it.
Sitting at that Thanksgivingtable, what is the very first
bite that you're looking forwardto?
Triple eight nine eight fivesixty nine thirty six.

(03:49):
Hey, hey, hey, it's Melody.
It's Parker here, and ParkerThanksgiving just a couple of
weeks away.
Can't believe it.
So let me ask you this right offthe bat.
Do you love Thanksgiving?

SPEAKER_01 (04:01):
Oh my word.
My favorite time of year is fromHalloween, or Reformation Day is
like I I like to call it, allthe way to Christmas.
Actually, New Year's.
I love this time of year morethan any other time of year.
Yeah.
And so we're right in the middleof my favorite time of year.

SPEAKER_00 (04:16):
I know.
It's kind of the calm before thestorm in a way.

SPEAKER_01 (04:19):
This yeah, the these two, three weeks before
Thanksgiving, 100% calm beforethe storm.

SPEAKER_00 (04:25):
Earlier in the week I talked about how I feel like
it's calm before the chaos, youknow, kind of begins to happen.
But I love Thanksgiving.
I always have.
Oh, yeah.
But this will be my firstThanksgiving without my parents.
Oh.
And let's see.
Well, I I'm old, so ever sincebirth, I have had Thanksgiving

(04:46):
at my parents' house.
At your parents' house.
Well, until about eight yearsago when my mom passed away, it
was handed over to me.
Gotcha.
And so we have it at my house.
But my dad is always there.
So it's gonna be a differentThanksgiving.
I know that little poem calledthe empty chair.
You know, it'll it'll just bedifferent.

SPEAKER_01 (05:03):
Oh, for sure.
Well, no, that was the way ourswas.
Every Thanksgiving, we were atmy dad's mom's house and
parents' house.
And um, I remember the firstThanksgiving when we did not
have my grandmother, which wasonly a handful of years ago.
Yeah.
And um, oh, it was awful.
I know.
You know, and I my cousinsthere's five cousins on the
website, and and we're allmarried and have our own kids

(05:24):
and you know, spouses and allthat stuff that we have to go do
our own uh, you know, with them.
But we all text each other themorning of Thanksgiving.
Yeah, you know, and we tell weremind each other of jokes, and
that my grandpa used to say hewas the most unserious
individual I've ever met.
Never serious.
If somebody would start downwith politics, he'd make a funny
joke and we'd just all startlaughing.

SPEAKER_00 (05:43):
You know, so oh how I wish it could be like that and
it was wonderful.

SPEAKER_01 (05:46):
Oh yeah, oh yeah.
Um the only time he ever gotserious was we had this prank.
My grandmother hated mice orrodents, anything.
It was awful.
And so Cracker Barrel had thislittle raccoon tail on a ball.
I don't know if you rememberthat, and it would you'd hit and
it would roll around.
Well, we talked about taking aused chip bag, putting that

(06:07):
thing in the chip bag andletting the tail hang out, and
we were gonna put it in thebottom of her pantry.
Oh my goodness.
And we were just laughing and wewere trying to figure out how we
can get this in there withouther knowing and all this stuff,
and which would have been easy.
My grandpa looked at me, hesaid, Y'all trying to kill your
ma'am all at once.
So we just we laugh about thatkind of stuff.
You know, but um it oh I loveThanksgiving.
Oh, I love Thanksgiving.

(06:28):
I do too.

SPEAKER_00 (06:28):
I do too.
Well, we're gonna talk moreabout some Thanksgiving-y type
things coming up.
You're gonna want to stay withus here on the morning joy ride.
Parker Webb, quick question foryou.
Cranberry sauce or no cranberrysauce?
No cranberry sauce.
So you just period.
Doesn't matter.

SPEAKER_01 (06:46):
I don't know what it is.
It's just not your thing.
It's not my thing.
And um now we never really hadit a lot.
You know, I told you we were wewere go to my grandma's house.
We never really had it a lot.
I think my mom has put it in themix a couple times, but it's
just not my thing.

SPEAKER_00 (07:00):
And here's the funny part about it.
A lot of people, my daughter isone of them.
She likes to bring the cranberrysauce.
That's one of the things thatshe brings.
And uh she don't want ithomemade.
She don't want to takecranberries and make cranberry
sauce.
She is all about the can.
And she likes to dump it out,and you can see the ridges of
the can.

SPEAKER_01 (07:19):
Yep.
Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (07:20):
And she cuts it into little slices.
She's all about the can.
But there are so many peoplelike that.

SPEAKER_01 (07:26):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (07:26):
So that is just a great question today.
This is a two-part question.
Do you even like cranberrysauce?
Yeah.
And I'm more like you, Parker.
I'm not real big on it either.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_01 (07:35):
It's just there.

SPEAKER_00 (07:36):
Secondly, do you like homemade cranberry sauce or
do you just want to dump thatthing out of the can?
Let us let us know what it isfor you at your house.
Hey, it's Melody along with youhere on the Joyride.
Parker Webb is here too.
So, Parker, I've got some funThanksgiving little jokes for
you.
Are you ready?
I'm ready.
And the cornier the better,right?

SPEAKER_01 (07:57):
Absolutely.

SPEAKER_00 (07:58):
So, how do little pumpkins cross the road?

SPEAKER_01 (08:01):
Hmm.
I don't know.

SPEAKER_00 (08:02):
With a crossing gourd.

SPEAKER_01 (08:04):
Oh my goodness.
That's great.
Instead of a crossing guard, didyou get it?
Oh, right out of the shoe.

SPEAKER_00 (08:10):
I'm in terms of you, Parker.
I don't know.
You're so nice.
You're so nice, I think you mayjust act like you get it.

SPEAKER_01 (08:16):
Sometimes I might.
But I am a dad, and you knowthat whole big thing about dad
jokes.
So the cornier they are, thebetter, and the more apt I am to
get it.
Okay, well, good.
We'll keep going.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (08:27):
Why is corn so popular on Thanksgiving?
Why?
Because it's amazing.
Amazing.

SPEAKER_01 (08:34):
Well now that one's deep.
I mean, do you have to stretchfor that one?
That's hilarious.
I love it.

SPEAKER_00 (08:40):
What should you expect at the end of
Thanksgiving?
Indigestion pills?
I mean, what the letter G.
Hey.

SPEAKER_01 (08:50):
For sure.
I love it.

SPEAKER_00 (08:52):
So what comes at the beginning of parades?

SPEAKER_01 (08:54):
Uh a P.
The letter P.
I'm catching on.

SPEAKER_00 (08:59):
I'm smarter than I look.
Here's a great one.
If April showers bring Mayflowers, what do May flowers
bring?
I have no idea.
Pilgrims.

SPEAKER_01 (09:10):
Oh, that's great.
Oh, I love it.

SPEAKER_00 (09:12):
So did you hear Parker about the scarecrow who
won first prize?
No, I did not.
It was outstanding in its field.
Oh.

SPEAKER_01 (09:21):
Listen, wherever you're getting these, uh, they
deserve a gold star.
I love it.
Well, I've got more, so staywith us on the joy ride.

extremely corny Thanksgivingjokes today, just for your
entertainment.

Thanksgiving?
Hmm.
I have no idea.

Oh my goodness.
That's great.
So what smells the best onThanksgiving?
Hmm.

SPEAKER_01 (09:51):
Well, I I mean, I would I would think the pumpkin
pie.

SPEAKER_00 (09:54):
Your nose.

SPEAKER_01 (09:56):
Yeah, it's hard to use your ears to smell what's
going on in it.

SPEAKER_00 (09:59):
That is funny.
So why don't side dishes telljokes?
I have no idea.
They're too corny.
Oh.
These are great.
What did one pumpkin pie say tothe other pumpkin pie?
What is that?
You want a piece of me?
These are awesome.
What do you call a sad cranberryParker?

SPEAKER_01 (10:19):
I have no idea.
A blueberry.
Oh my goodness.
That's great.
I'm going to use these.
Okay.
I am going to use these.

SPEAKER_00 (10:25):
So what did the autumn leaf say to the tree?
What's that?
I'm falling for you.
That's great.
And did you hear about theThanksgiving engagement ring?
No, I did not.
It's 24 carrots.
And what kind of music dopilgrims listen to?
Tell me.
Plymouth Rock.

SPEAKER_01 (10:43):
104.1 Plymouth Rock there.
Yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (10:46):
I love it.
So why did the cranberry blush?
I don't know.
Because it saw the turkeydressing.

SPEAKER_01 (10:54):
Now, see, that's that's one I think my boys would
would think is hilarious.

SPEAKER_00 (10:58):
All right, last one.
I know you're disappointed, butit's the last one.
