Michelle Daveluy est professeure titulaire au Département d’anthropologie de l’Université Laval à Québec. Fascinée par les langues, elle a pensé devenir interprète pour pouvoir subvenir à ses besoins tout en voyageant. Puis, elle a découvert la sociolinguistique et l’anthropologie du langage. Dans ce cadre, elle a commencé par étudier le français parlé (à Montréal) puis le trilinguisme au Nunavik. Hors-Québec, elle s’est intéressée au Nunavut et aux enjeux langagiers en milieu de travail, dans la Marine canadienne plus précisément. En mer, elle en est venue à penser les dynamiques langagières au-delà des frontières, en mouvement et dans la durée. Elle s’intéresse donc maintenant aux franco-mobiles, dont ceux qui parcourent le Canada pour travailler dans l’industrie du pétrole.
