I'm telling you, it was like holy crap.
I'm like what is this week?
And I was trying to think.
I have no idea if there's anyrhyme or reason, but you're
right, there's a lot of releasesthis week.
I know, I keep seeing it and I'mlike you know, I planned mine

the jungle.
All right, there we go.
All right, see you, stevens.
Holy crap, you've got so muchgoing.
I don't know where to beginwith you.
Let's begin with the EPDestination Unknown

(19:49):
Congratulations.
I can't wait for everybody elseto be able to listen to it all
at one time.
On Friday, june 14th, is therelease.
So where did this project allstart?
How did this project all start?

Speaker 5 (20:04):
Where did this project all start?
Well, oh boy.
So back in December I wasworking with a guy named John
Lloyd from Superposition and wewere talking about doing all
this stuff, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and I didn't

(20:27):
know which direction I wanted totake.
Asphalt jungle music Uh, if youlook at my catalog right now,
uh, I've kind of not really allover the place, but I kind of am
.
You know, um, what you know, one minute I'm doing, you know,
straight up rock.
Next minute I'm doing someharder, harder, harder edge rock
.
And then I'm you know, and thenI'm you know, and then I'm
doing a blues song.

(20:47):
And I'm doing, you know, and Iwas like you know, I I got
that's all fine and dandy, butyou know, I want to steer it in
a certain direction, okay and um, so, destination unknown the
title just came out, you know, and we had this plan, all blah,
blah, blah, and it was going tobe, uh, basically it was going
to be nothing but guestmusicians.
But things fell apart, thingswent their own direction and

(21:09):
things like that people got bit, people got busy and I just
decided to pull back on becauseit was going to be a full-length
album and, um, I just decided, okay, uh, you know, you know I
need a break.

Speaker 2 (21:24):
Right.

Speaker 5 (21:24):
Because last year was really busy for me, right?
Well, I mean, I put out let'ssee 28 songs last year, starting
in May, wow.
And right now my catalog is atwhat 30?

Speaker 3 (21:38):
Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 5 (21:39):
So I was really busy.
I was doing the Kiss thingwhere you know a lot of Kiss
fans will know what I'm reallybusy.
I was doing the Kiss thing, where a lot of Kiss fans will
know what I'm talking about.
When Kiss first started out inthe 70s even when they did break
, they stuck to this regimen.
They put out an album almostevery six months to nine months
Most bands two years.

(22:00):
Kiss did this thing like floodthe market and keep your stuff
in people's eyes.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
And.

Speaker 5 (22:11):
I thought you know this is a great idea.
So last year I was putting outtwo, sometimes three, releases a
month.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
That's crazy.

Speaker 5 (22:18):
And it was, and I almost got burnt out Again.
I took the time off, focused oncertain songs and things and,
of course, for Now was one ofthe newer ones that got written,
and she Moves was a songwritten two years ago.

(22:41):
Had it on the back burner and Iprobably should pay is a very
old song.
I wrote it in the 90s.
Um, yeah and uh, tears arefalling is the most newest one.
I wrote that in february Ithink oh, wow so.
But the album, what it ended upbeing, was my very good friend,

(23:04):
sarah C Douglas, over there inEngland.
She has collaborated with mebefore on Voices, carried by
Till Tuesday, and Peter Calvert, her guitar player and producer.
You know, that's how I got toknow Sarah.
We belong to a group calledMixcraft and that's what they

(23:25):
call the DAW, the recordingsoftware that we use and it's a
private group.
You've got to show your licensefor your DAW to even join this
group.
Really, that's kind of cool, yeah, but we all in there are
talking to each other saying, no, you need to do this, you need
to do that.
Well, I latched on to Peterbecause I just think he's a

(23:46):
great producer, a great guitarplayer too, very bluesy, but I
just love his producing styleand him and Sarah their band is
called Sarah and the Others.
They were doing a rendition ofWonderful Tonight by Eric

(24:07):
Clapton and he was like I gotall this hiss and blah, blah,
blah, blah, I can't get it outof there.
And he posted this in theFacebook group and I was the
first one and I kind of grabbedit and downloaded it and put it
through my system and I cleanedit up.
I said here's what I did and Iposted it back to him.
He was like that's brilliant, mate, you know.

(24:27):
And blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
And I was like, well, here'sthe settings I use, here's what
I use blah, blah, blah.
And the funny thing is he's gotthis crystal clear sound and
I've always had this muddy soundand here I cleaned his stuff up
, but can't clean my own stuffup.
Oh my God, it's like right.
So that was kind of funny.
But at the same time I askedhim who the hell was that singer

(24:50):
?
And he said well, that's my girl, Sarah.
I said do you think she'd beopen for a collaboration?
Well, what it was was I heardher singing this Wonderful
Tonight song and I thought ofthis original that I've had for
30 years.
Right, and it's my, it's mybaby, it's.
It's one that I, I just alwaysloved.

(25:11):
I wrote it in a matter of five, ten minutes, traveling down the
road in a car so I had to pullover at a rest area to write
stuff down on.
On a uh, on a uh napkin not nota nap, but the bag that the
hamburger came in.
But I don't when I write music.

(25:34):
I get a riff in my head and Ilay it down and I put a simple
drum beat to it and then I comeback to it and I start
dissecting it.
Well, this is one of thosesongs where I actually wrote the
chords on the paper bag and thelyrics.
I don't do that a lot.
I can't read, I don't readmusic, yeah.
So here I am writing thesechords down, and not just basic

(25:58):
chords either.
I'm like, okay, this is goingto be a D, sustained two, blah,
blah, blah.
Things like that.
I know that kind of stuff.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
I a D sustained too.

Speaker 5 (26:12):
Blah, blah, blah, Things like that.
I know that kind of stuff, soI'm writing all this down, and
so the song is Southern.
Grace and it's about being onthe road and being away from the
people that you love, and I'vebeen playing with this song,
playing with this song, playingwith this song for 30 years now.
And my voice, Sarah, said itwas great, but I'm sorry.
I always felt like it neededsomething more and the moment I
heard Sarah singing WonderfulTonight, I thought there's.

Speaker 2 (26:34):
There's the voice there's the voice I've been
looking for.

Speaker 5 (26:37):
Well, I didn't want to throw this original at her,
so I threw Voices of Carrie ather and she's like I don't
really do rock, I don't know ifI can do this.
I said, trust me, you can dothis, because at the same time I
you know, I had this all laidout and I know I wasn't gonna
sing it I would have trashed it.
No, uh.
So we did that and we had a lotof fun doing it.

(26:58):
Well then, I presented hersouthern grace and she fell in
love with the song.
Oh my god, I love these lyrics.
She goes this, and she was inlove with the song immediately
oh man, oh my God, I love theselyrics.
She goes, this is.
And she was like wow, this isnot like you, this is a
departure.
She goes, but I can hear you inthere.
She goes, I can hear you.
She goes, but this is different.
And lo and behold, she got sicklast year, and so that put

(27:22):
everything on the back burner.
And then, coming back around, everything that happened in
december, uh, she finallyreached out to me.
She goes, I'm on the mend, I amready to jump back in.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
Let's do this.
Oh my god she goes.

Speaker 5 (27:33):
I need this.
I need this to therapy, youknow therapeutic and all this
stuff.
I'm like, let's do it girl andum, so then I decided okay,
you're still going to use thetitle Destination Unknown, but
I'm going to build this, this EP, around this song I love it and
this and I do.

Speaker 2 (27:55):
I love this song.
This is probably.
This probably is my favorite onthe EP.

Speaker 5 (28:00):
Thank you, thank you, I I I mean, it actually was
inspired by this.
What's so crazy?
It's inspired by, uh, a britneyfox song, which is a hair metal
band.
Um, oh my god, I just forgotthe name of the song.

Speaker 2 (28:17):
Um you've been hanging around me too long it's
it's also well.

Speaker 5 (28:21):
Yeah, it's also talking about being on the road
right and it was just the melodyof it and I was like, ooh, I've
got to write a song, I'd loveto write a song like that.
And so and behold, I'mlistening to that song in that
car ride going back home, goingback to Jacksonville.
I just got done visiting Momand Dad in Spartanburg, south
Carolina, and then here we are.

(28:42):
So Sarah says you don't mind metweaking it.
I said no, you've got carteblanche.
I'm usually like that.
When it comes to collaborations, I'm open.
I'm open to ideas because youknow, sometimes somebody will
interpret things better than youinterpret them.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
Yeah, of course, yeah .

Speaker 5 (29:00):
And she did, she laid all these vocals, she did the
main vocal track, and then shesent it to me and she's like hi,
what do you think of this?
I said, oh, this is great.
She's like well, I got one morething.
And then she threw thesebackground vocals at me and I
was like Whoa, she had all theselike special harmonies.
And then the part in theoriginally laid out like that,

(29:30):
so um, yeah.
So then you know, I'm sittingthere listening to these lyrics,
the vocals, I'm going oh god,and I'm getting goosebumps, you
know right and then then I throwit into the system and just
start chopping it up and playingwith it and taking her
harmonies, putting them, puttinga little blurb here here, here,
you know, taking it out here, all that kind of stuff that a
producer crazy and I sent itback.

(29:53):
There she goes, oh my god, because she was even like wow,
that's pretty cool and the great, the great thing is I, she's
like you, you know, if you wantto sing this with me.
And I thought, and I did, Ithought this would be kind of
cool to do, like a kenny rogers, dolly parton type thing, you
know, right, right, uh, uh, youknow, islands in the stream, I

(30:13):
think is the name of the song, you know.
But I thought about it and Idid, I did a couple and it
sounded good, but I felt it, thesong breathe so I thought, no,
this, this song.
I said that's it.
I'll harmonize with her.
That's about it, you know, andI had a blast harmonizing with
her.
I really did.
Here's the cool thing aboutSouthern Graces.

(30:35):
Normally when I do because I doeverything when it comes to my
songs I do do a lot of thebackups through a harmonizer, a
voice harmonizer.

Speaker 2 (30:48):
Oh, okay.

Speaker 5 (30:49):
But a lot of times what I'll do is to make it sound
more real.
Is I'll go back and emulatewhat the harmonizer put out on
top of that?
Sometimes I can't because Ijust don't have all those ranges
, but Southern Grace is the onlysong other than Tears Are

(31:13):
Falling.

Speaker 2 (31:18):
Oh, wow.

Speaker 5 (31:18):
Tears.
Are.
Falling.
Uh, all that is real vocals.
Wow, background and all.
So, yeah, so southern grace waswhat got me going that way.
Uh, and now it has taught me alesson that I can use the
harmonizer as a tool, but don'tuse it in the recordings.
Try to emulate them and pullthose back out.
And that's what I've been doinglately, so I'm proud that
Southern Grace happened this way.

Speaker 2 (31:40):
Oh yeah, this is a great song, so I think we have
to listen to it.
Oh look, I just happened tohave it loaded.
Ladies and gentlemen, southernGrace Ashfall Jungle featuring
Sarah C Douglas and and CStevens, and I will be back.

Speaker 3 (32:00):
I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm.
Look in the mirror, the milesbehind you.

(32:47):
I still got a long way to go.
I'm holding my arms.
I still got a long way to go.
I'm holding my arms close andhighly.
Sometimes I feel I'm on my own,but I bet there's someone

(33:11):
special.
It's so much special On myhighway.
I'm coming back home.
You feel the sun rise, hit youcoming back From all that
happened.
It's so much special, no morespecial.

(33:39):
I'm trying hard To see my baby, but it's just Sometimes.
They seem to grow.
I'm heading down Through thevalley.
I just want my baby Safe andwarm Out there.

(34:04):
There's someone special.

(34:41):
We'll be right back On thehighway.
I'm coming back home.
You feel something worse Keepsyou coming back From what
happened.
It's someone special On thehighway I'm coming back home.

(35:03):
You feel the sun rise Keeps youcoming back for more.
Nothing is someone special.

Speaker 2 (35:24):
I'm on the highway On the highway, I'm on the highway
nowhere, I'm on the highway, nowhere On the highway, nowhere.

(35:46):
And I am back with C Stevens ofAsphalt Jungle and we have been
talking about his new EP,that's right.
Destination, unknown, beingreleased Friday June 14th.
C Stevens, I do love SouthernGrace and Sarah's voice is

(36:08):
really.
I mean.
You complement each other sowell on this song.

Speaker 5 (36:13):
Yeah, that ending part, she that's.
She told me that she fell inlove with that because the
ending part where we uh, youknow, sing back and forth to
each other, she's not in my partand I'm not in hers, you know
and she loved that that I didthat because at first you know I
had all the levels down.
She's like I can't hear you,you need to pull yourself up.
I gotcha yeah, and she was.

(36:35):
You know, I was just.
You know I'm not a great singer.
I know I'm not.
You know, I'm not afraid to sayit.
You know I get by.
Uh, I am a guitar player oh yes, you are through and through um
.
But you know, um, yeah, thatwas one song, that um.
Everything came natural.

Speaker 2 (36:53):
Yeah, and I think from that everything just fell
into place for you on this EP.
It just really worked so well.

Speaker 5 (37:01):
Yeah, I mean I'm happy with every song on there.
My favorite one is Tears AreFalling, I think because it's so
new too.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (37:13):
Because it's got that hair metal type of feel to it
it's true, true, yeah, she moves.
I do like the message in thatone.
That was a fun one to do andthey always are when they're two
, three chords.
But it just goes to show youyou know two, three chords can
make a song what it is.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
That's funny.
You should say that because, stephen, when I was interviewing
him, I said something about youknow that I was self-teaching
myself the guitar and I said I'mup to like four chords.
He goes you're good, run withit.

Speaker 5 (37:46):
It's like OK, there you go.
Seriously, you know, and that'strue, I mean, keep it simple,
stupid.
You know, it rings true inmusic.
It really does Too much, toomuch in music, and I don't care
what platform it is country rap,hip hop, metal, whatever.
They're trying to get toointricate with stuff.

Speaker 4 (38:09):
And.

Speaker 5 (38:09):
I get why you want to do that, but on every song,
come on, you got to let stuffbreathe.
That's my opinion.
Want to do that, but on everysong, come on, you've got to let
stuff breathe.
That's my opinion.
I like that.
I'm not trying to piss anybodyoff.

Speaker 2 (38:20):
Absolutely.
Oh my gosh, so what else?

Speaker 5 (38:22):
Go ahead.
I was the same way.
Oh, let's put this breakdownhere.
Oh, let's invert this.
No, keep it simple.
When you're a singer like me,with a not so great voice,
you've got to keep it simple.

Speaker 2 (38:39):
I know, but somehow you make it all work, that raspy
voice in that guitar, just mmmSpeaking of that raspy voice.

Speaker 5 (38:50):
So me and Candy Rocks from Miss Hyde and the Wild
Side, we just finished writing.
We haven't really recorded, butwe just finished writing a song
and it's well.
It's a dirty song, kind of Well.

(39:11):
The title of it is Tainted inShame.

Speaker 2 (39:13):
Okay, tainted in Shame, okay, I like it.

Speaker 5 (39:16):
Candy wrote all the lyrics except for the chorus.
I wrote the chorus always have, have, have had the chorus there
, but it's about uh, the versesare from you know, uh, well,
they're from a guy's point ofview, but it's about a stripper
on stage.
Okay, now let me elaborate whatthe and then the chorus turns

(39:41):
around to the girl thinkingabout the, the guy sitting there
at the stage throwing money ather.
Um, so basically it's talkingabout the guy Like, okay, don't
you have anything better to dothan be here six, seven days a
week throwing money at thesegirls?
That's basically what thesong's about.

(40:02):
But we did it that way becauseof how raunchy the song sounded
in the first place.

Speaker 3 (40:10):
All right.

Speaker 5 (40:11):
So yeah, all candy, stay tuned for right.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
So, yeah, all candy, stay tuned for that.
Hey, listen, you know you gotto take it to different places
sometimes, so why not?
Why not the strip joints?

Speaker 5 (40:24):
Oh yeah, and we'll be bringing up strip joints again
here in a little bit when wetalk about the CD giveaways,
right, oh?

Speaker 2 (40:33):
Lord.

Speaker 5 (40:33):
But me and Kurt from Crypt13 are really starting to
get serious about what we'regoing to do.
We're going to do somethingtogether.

Speaker 2 (40:43):
I'm excited about that too.

Speaker 5 (40:46):
We're throwing some ideas around.
He is working on another songright now.
Oh God, if he gets this doneit's going to be great.
I can't let anything else outof the bag on it.
Somebody who is very well knownto this show is also
collaborating with him on it.
So that's all I'm going to say.
I haven't sworn to secrecy.

Speaker 2 (41:08):
We'll talk off air.

Speaker 5 (41:10):
I can't.
I swore I would not let anybodyknow.
I really didn't.
It's in writing.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
It's in the messenger on Facebook.
That's funny.

Speaker 5 (41:18):
So he's got legal recourse on me.

Speaker 2 (41:22):
Oh man, so intriguing .
Now I really have to find out.
Okay, go ahead.

Speaker 5 (41:28):
I am working on a couple more covers, but going
forward, most definitely mycovers are not going to be
covers, they're going to beremakes, kind of visiting
america, where they're going tobe my interpretation on the song
so uh, yeah, um yeah.

(41:49):
I don't want to let anythingelse out on that this is one
that I'm working on.
it's going to be likeeverybody's going to be I hope
they're going to be like whoa.
So yeah, then we are stilltrying to get the other project
off the ground again with Candy,me, kurt and Candy on that, we
Care A Lot song that wasoriginally done by Faith, no

(42:12):
More.

Speaker 3 (42:12):
Oh, wow.

Speaker 5 (42:14):
So that's the other thing it's going, that's going
on musically oh, that's great, that is really great oh and, of
course, you know the other one Iam looking for lead singer.
By the way, anybody out therethat wants to take this one on
there?

Speaker 2 (42:25):
you go.

Speaker 5 (42:25):
Um, I have and deb has heard the uh, the, the
finished product.
I have a song that's completelydone, but I need I need a
vocalist for it and anybody whothinks they can do Jefferson
Starship.
Find your Way Back.
Please reach out to me or Deb.
I would love to work with youon it.
It's in the original key, it'sin the original timing.

(42:49):
It's just that song needed tobe left alone the way it was.
I just wanted to do a versionof it and bring it more to
today's sound.

Speaker 2 (43:00):
And bring it up.
That's what I wanted to do.
Oh my God, yeah, so, yeah.
So I have listened to it and, yeah, I can't wait to.
I can't wait to find the rightvocals for that song, because
that will be amazing.

Speaker 5 (43:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (43:15):
That was a labor of pure love.

Speaker 5 (43:16):
I had a blast recording every piece of
instrument on that, you know, the piano, the, the synthesizers
, the guitars, the drums, thebass, even the tambourine.
I had to sit there and play atambourine, um yeah.
So I did everything.
And those back, I'm so happy.
Again those vocals, that's allme.
So you know, again I ran itthrough the harmonizer generator

(43:41):
and said yeah, and then I hadto sit there and lay each vocal
in.

Speaker 2 (43:45):
And some of them were hard.

Speaker 5 (43:46):
I was like holy crap and I had to actually use the,
which I hate doing this, but Igot to start doing it, which I
hate doing this, but I got tostart doing it.
Melodyne is a program that'sout there that it doesn't allow
you to stretch your voice likesome of these programs do.
It just helps you.
It'll help you tweak it and youknow, like, say, if you go, you

(44:07):
got a melody that's supposed togo A G E and you go A G E flat
by accident, you can tweak thatportion of that voice to E and
it fixes it and it doesn't soundlike it's been fixed.

Speaker 2 (44:20):
I think this is so.
It's so crazy what you can donow in a studio and all that you
have at your fingertips to usewhen you're recording and laying
down tracks and everything.
It's just amazing.
I've got to find a local studiohere just to go in and play
around with it.

Speaker 5 (44:34):
Well, you know, I didn't want to have to ever use
that stuff, but I learned it'sgot to be done.
You know, if you want it tosound right Again, you go back
to some of my catalog.
Ooh, I got some flat spots inthere, you know.
But I left them in therebecause to me it's like you know
what it shows you that it'sreal.

Speaker 2 (44:52):
It is Absolutely.
Oh, you're absolutely right.
Oh my gosh, you've got a lotgoing on, so I'm going to take a
break.
We're going to take a musicbreak and when we come back
we've got something we've got tolike.
You know, I'm not going to givethat away either, but don't go
anywhere, people.
We'll be back.
We might be giving somethingaway, but all right, we'll be
right back guitar solo.

Speaker 3 (45:56):
She said come over, I can't stand feeling sober.
We could score a littlesomething to get out of our
minds.
But I don't want to be anotherRegret because you needed a
lover To get you through thenight, Cause it helps to forget.

(46:21):
It's not about you, it's notabout me.
It's not about you, it's notabout me.
It's not about you.
It's not about me.
It's not about you, it's notabout me.
I call to say I'm sorry andthat you shouldn't worry.

(46:55):
It's hard to find any comfortwhen you're on the edge.
You know I can't come over Towatch you pass out on the sofa.
Don't throw your life away Likeyour last cigarette.

Speaker 2 (47:13):
Don't throw your life away.

(48:10):
I'm in guitar solo.
It's not about you, it's notabout me.
It's not about you.
It's not about you.
It's not about me.
It's not about you.
It's not about me.
It's not about you.
It's not about me.
It's not about you.
It's not about me.
It's not about you.

(48:31):
It's not about me.
It's not about you.

(48:51):
It's not about me.
All right, welcome back.
I'm Deb LaMotta.
This is Halfway Through theWeek and that was Dinky.
It's not about you.
I'm telling you Gavin's voiceand the drummer and the
guitarist oh my.
God.
So they have been reviewed byMelodic Harmony Reviews and I am
in partnership with them and Iwill be interviewing them coming

(49:13):
up next month, so stay tunedfor that.
All right, c Stevens, we areback and you have.
You got more things that you'vebeen working on, but I like
this next one.
Why don't you tell everybodywhat else you've been working on
?

Speaker 5 (49:26):
Well, this next one.
You wrote me into it, if we can.
You know I don't mean it likeit sounds, but no, I'm glad that
you did.
Yeah, every Friday night righthere on Real to Real
Broadcasting 9 pm Eastern, I gotmy own radio show for a whole
hour called Let your Hair DownPower Hour, and I have been

(49:47):
having a blast doing this.

Speaker 2 (49:49):
Oh my God.
Well, you blew me away when yousent the email and said I've
got something to run by you.
What about you know?
Listen to this?
Blew me away when you sent theemail and said I've got
something to run by you.
What about listen to this?
Let me know what you think.
And I was like holy crap, yeah.

Speaker 5 (50:02):
You know, I've been, I listen to you, I listen to the
legendary Ron Kay and DJNordique, all that stuff.
You know and I was like youknow and you're.
You know, when you play musicby the indie artists, you're all
over the place.
Blues gospel you know, everything, and so and I told we

(50:23):
had this conversation throughtext that, uh, that night, um,
that I thought you guys need ahard rock show and I was like
taking notes, and you like whydon't you do it?
And I was like I don't know,you know, but then I put
together a test one and you fellin love with it.

(50:43):
Oh, my.
God, yeah, oh, my God.

Speaker 2 (50:47):
And I excuse me.
So see, stephen sends me thefile every Sunday morning and if
you know me, I'm up at 5o'clock every day having my
coffee, so that's been a thingnow.
So I get the file Sundaymornings, I get to listen to it
first, ha-ha with my coffee, andoh my God, you do such an
amazing job.
So you do.
I mean, you have so much inthat head as it is with all
these bands and who's who andwho's done what.

Speaker 5 (51:15):
So tell them what you do, just to do the show every
week.
I want to add something here.
My ex used to tell me that Icould put out a book called the
most useless trivia that youever need.

Speaker 2 (51:26):
There you go.
It's like my fun facts I do.

Speaker 5 (51:29):
Right.
So it's about music and youknow, I mean I know things I
should know, like who lost theirpet poodle on what day, blah,
blah, blah.
You know I shouldn't know thatkind of stuff.
but I am a true fan of the music, I do, but yeah.
So basically what I you know inthe name let your hair down

(51:52):
power hour.
You know in the name let yourhair down power hour.
Yes, it's a, it's a nod to hairmetal.
I hate that term.
I really do, because to me it'sderogatory I mean just because
the guys, just because the guyshave long hair like I do, oh,
it's hair metal and then peoplesay, well, that's glam metal.
No, it's not no no, but it is apart of it.

(52:13):
It basically is just the 80shard rock and metal that was
coming out.

Speaker 2 (52:18):
That's all it was.

Speaker 5 (52:21):
Good music it was.
It was good music, it was funmusic, it was party music.
And I've been missing hearingsome of that stuff you know on
the radio and even some of thesepodcast shows and stuff.
I'm like damn man, I love themusic that they're playing, but

(52:42):
I'm like same thing every week.
So when you gave me thisopportunity I thought, okay, I
can do something here.
But then I did make one mentalnote I'm not going to play the
top 10 song by that band.
I'm not going to do it, youknow, because you can go to any
radio station and hear that songone time during the week.
So to give you an example roundand round by rats, how many

(53:06):
times have we heard that song?

Speaker 2 (53:08):
Maybe a couple.

Speaker 5 (53:11):
Right, okay, smoking in the boys room by Motley Crue.
How many times we heard thatone, you know.
So I was like, okay, I'm goingto do deeper cuts and then I
will play the hits by the bandsthat people might not know or
might have forgotten about.

Speaker 2 (53:28):
That's why I like this Power Hour, because you
have taken you know you havethat niche now with exactly what
you're saying, and it just putsa great twist on the whole show
.

Speaker 5 (53:39):
Right so.
But then it took a twist.
I was like, oh, but I stillwant to do something for the
indie people that I love so much.
Exactly so I started listening, going back, looking at my
playlist on yes, I'm going tosay the bad word right now.
Spotify, don't get me startedon that one.

Speaker 2 (53:57):
we don't have enough time, that's another show I'm.

Speaker 5 (53:59):
I'm actually on the other side of the fence of
everybody else, but anyways, um,but yeah, I went through my
playlist and everything and I'mlike you know what?
There's a lot of bands here tohave.
You know, it's newer rock, it'snewer hard rock that fits with
some of that stuff from the 80s.
I was like, oh yeah, yeah.
So basically, like you said, what I do, okay, so what I do is

(54:20):
I pick, and I've already got somany episodes, uh, you know
already, you know laid out rightso what I do is I I pick five
independent bands, or generallyunknown bands, who are assigned
to independent labels rightum, I research it and I go
through their, their catalog.

(54:41):
I go, okay, that song, thatsong gets me that, oh, I love
this one.
So I take the five independentsongs and then I build around
that the rest of the show withthe mainstream artists.
So like, uh, last week I didsit on six doing a great version
of um, don't you forget aboutme, by some mind.

(55:03):
Did did that and then was likeyou know what will fit right
here april wine, boom, yeah, right, yeah, but I didn't.
I pulled the april wine out.
It's because it fit better onsomething that's coming up this
week.
It's things like that, it'sthings like that.
So, yeah, so it starts with theindependence.
And you, you know I hadmentioned, we had talked about

(55:26):
this, and you know there havebeen a couple of bands that
submitted stuff to me.
But right now I'm not takingsubmissions and and there's a
reason for it- right um, this ismusic that grabs me and I hope
that it grabs you, but also, atthe same time, when I'm doing
all this research, um and andstuff like that, and then the

(55:49):
song that gets played on the onthis Friday night from an
independent band, it's one thatI have downloaded.
I have purchased it ordownloaded it in some capacity,
so there's a little bit givingback to that independent
community in that way a littlebit of support there.
But at the same time, when I'msitting there researching these

(56:12):
guys, I'm listening to thatwhole catalog.
That's a stream for you.
So that's how I do it.
I do a lot of research and thenI go to the band's webpage, if
they have one, and then I pullthe information from there.
I might give out some futurerelease dates or concert dates
or whatever they're doingrelease dates or concert dates

(56:34):
or whatever they're doing.
But the other reason I'm nottaking submissions is I don't
want to be that guy that says no, I, I can't play this on my
show I don't want to do that.
Right, right, right yeah, there's enough rejection out
there right now and I don't wantto be a part of it I hear you
and what they send me stillmight grab me.
But I'm like, well, it doesn'tfit with van halen or it doesn't
fit with Motley Crue, it fitswith a Van Sevenfold.

(56:58):
I'm not going to be playingthat on the show, right, right.
So I apologize ahead of time toanybody for that.
Right.
Because, like I said, this showis to show you what gets me
going, and I'm hoping that itgets you going too at the same
time.

Speaker 2 (57:16):
Absolutely, at five o'clock in the morning with my
cup of coffee.
You have done an amazing jobAmazing.
Thank you.
Yeah, absolutely.
We're so happy to have you atthe R2RB as part of the family.
Come out to Delaware, comeparty with us in August.

Speaker 5 (57:38):
Oh, speaking of that, you're getting a bunch of CDs
for that, by the way.

Speaker 2 (57:43):
Well, so there's a couple of things going on.
August 4th I am at the WyomingPeach Festival with DJ Nora Deke

.
If you have anything you'd liketo send me, as C Stevens is

(58:06):
going to be sending me CDs tohand out at the festival here in
and this is and Delaware is abig, big on their indie artists
I will be more than happy tohand out anything you want to
send me.
So get in contact with me Then.
Then DJ Nordique and I arehaving I'm sponsoring the Dance
the Night Away with DJ Nordique.
We're having a big party herein Delaware people.

(58:28):
So if you're listening and wantto invite, just reach out.
So yeah, lots going on.
If you're listening and want toinvite, just reach out.
So yeah, lots going on.
So yeah, but this show Fridaynight.
I mean, I was hoping you woulddo it, but when I heard the demo
I was like holy shit, likewhere was all this?
What else are you keeping asecret?
Like amazing, amazing.

(58:50):
So yeah, kudos to you.

Speaker 5 (58:53):
I have a blast doing that show because, like I said,
it is fun putting it togetherbecause you know, you know,
again, it's, you know, it's, youknow it starts with the core of
the five independent bands andI'm going to, I'm going to, you

(59:20):
know, showcase that week, butthen the songs that I pick, I'm
going'm going.
Man, I can remember listeningto that, you know, and you know
I get all these memories backbecause, again, it's stuff that
I love and when I, when I listento a band, I don't listen to
the single, I listen to thewhole album yeah, and the nine
times out of ten.
What makes it in top 40 for thatband is not the one that I love
off the album.
Nine times out of ten.
It's always been that way.
There's always the deeper cutsthat I love and I scratch my

(59:45):
head and go why was this neverreleased as?

Speaker 2 (59:47):
a single Right.
It's crazy and I'm so glad youtook the time to explain how you
put the show together, becauseI think sometimes people will
just say, well, why is he doingit that way?
Or why doesn't he use my music?
So, giving that explanation, which makes total sense when you
hear it, and then when you goback to listen to the show and
it just flows, oh my God, fromstart to finish, it's like holy

(01:00:10):
crap.

Speaker 5 (01:00:12):
The funny thing is I know people probably saw some of
the posts on Facebook and theygo oh, he's playing Rat, he's
playing Motley Crue, and they'reprobably thinking right away oh
, he's probably playing, youknow, smokin' in the Boys.

Speaker 2 (01:00:23):
Yeah, no people, nope , no people, nope, nope, nope.
It's the deeper cuts, man.
Yeah.
And then again, you know, withhaving those indie artists once
again to you know, take thatinto consideration and put five
every week.
So, yeah, absolutely love it.
I'm so glad you thought of itand you're doing it.
And yes, c Stevens is apermanent resident of R2RB.

(01:00:47):
You heard it here first.
Or train wrecks, that's it.
We're known for our trainwrecks.
I'm like, yeah, so I, you know, before the show, you know, I
don't know yesterday, thismorning, we're always like last

(01:01:08):
minute, like do you have anypoints that you want me to bring
up that I don't know about?
He goes, no, let the trainwreck happen.
I'm like, okay, let's go Toottoot.

Speaker 5 (01:01:15):
Yeah, it's our little thing.

Speaker 2 (01:01:22):
It is.
It is, oh my God, just reallyquick, because I like the story.
How I met you was last yearLast year, yeah, or the year
before.
I had just put out the postabout you know who wants to talk
about being an indie artist, and you and Michael Bate said,
yeah, let's go.
Like what the hell do I do?
Like all right, and the rest ishistory.
And Michael's been on the showseveral times and now look at
you, I'm telling you, yeah, Iknow, it's awesome, really
awesome.
I'm so excited about the next.

(01:01:45):
Well, let me ask you, is thereanything else you want to talk
about at the Let your Ear PowerHour?

Speaker 5 (01:01:51):
No, I mean, um, no.
I mean I think I explained itall and, like I said, if you,
you know, if you have listenedto the show and you get what I'm
doing, yeah then, yeah, goahead and send me a song, right
an mp3 song for me to listen to.
Yeah, um, you know you can.
You can do it two ways uh,asphalt jungle band at gmailcom.
Or you can do it to the uh,it's called let your hair down

(01:02:14):
power hour at gmail.
But know this that again, thereason I really don't want the
mp3 submission is because I'mnot buying it.
I'm not supporting you exactlyI hear you.

Speaker 2 (01:02:26):
I hear you yep, uh.

Speaker 5 (01:02:28):
So that is but I will , I will take them.
I will, yeah, know what theshow is about before you send it
in.

Speaker 2 (01:02:34):
Yeah, exactly, and I'm so glad that you were able
to do that this evening.
All right, I am excited aboutthis next part.
We got winners, we got winners.
So go ahead, explain what wegot, because I love it.

Speaker 5 (01:02:49):
Well, I put out a little contest for people to
tell me what their favoriteasphalt jungle song was, and I
didn't constrain it to theoriginals.
If you like how I did a coversong, that's fine.

(01:03:10):
Or if the cover song isn't thereason but the original song is
the reason because of somememory, that's fine.
Or if the cover song isn't thereason, it but the original song
is the reason because of somememory, that's fine too right um
so and I said you know, uh, the, but you got to tell me what
song and why you know.
you got to give me a, why youcan't just say, oh, it's great
man, or uh, yeah, I like theguitar, lick in it.
No, I'm, I'm sorry, and I didget some of those.

(01:03:32):
I bet you did, but I wanted tohear from the fan themselves on
again what grabs them, whatdrives them.
And I got over 300 submissions.

Speaker 2 (01:03:44):
That is crazy.

Speaker 5 (01:03:46):
Yeah, I had a lot of great stories.
It was hard to narrow down.
It really was, and I would liketo go ahead and uh, um, uh,
give a shout out on these umreal quick though.
Uh well, I'll explain that whenI get to the to the fourth one,
that's fine all right, so uh,stacy pemberton from birmingham,

(01:04:08):
alabama.
She's our first winner.
Uh, her favorite song was thedonny ir Aaliyah song.
Her memories of that song areactually.
What's so funny is she used tolive in Pennsylvania and she
used to go to damn.
She told me the name of it too,but it's Darien Lake.

(01:04:31):
That's it, darien Lake, okay, and ride the roller coasters and
everything, and that was one ofthe songs they would play.
So that gave her a great memory.
Wow, yep, our second giveawayis Jesse Cortez from Mesquite
Texas, my boy, mesquite Texas, right outside of Dallas.
His favorite song is who's toBlame, which is my original
about the screw-ups with COVID.

(01:04:52):
Wow, yeah, this third one.
I'm happy that I get to giveone away to this guy.
You know him, I do.
I am Marshall.
I am Marshall from the TruthMusic, north Canton, ohio.
He has loved from day one theversion of ACDC's.
If you Want Blood, you've Gotit.

(01:05:14):
He even did a segment where haveyou seen where he does those
barbecues, where he's cookingsomething and he's what music
he's playing in the background.
Well, I made it on one of those, so, and it was, if you want
blood.
So, wow, yeah, so, uh, I ammarshall, you're getting one too
.
This next one is CarlosEsposito Gonzalez, from Monrovia

(01:05:39):
, california.
He's a huge Judas Priest fanand he loved the version of
Metal Gods that me and Mike Abeldid.
Oh, cool, and that's where Iwant to stop, because Mike Abel
is another guy that I met fromthat group, that I met, peter
and Sarah in Gotcha, and, ofcourse, me and Mike have
collaborated on three songsalready.

(01:05:59):
We do stuff all the timetogether, cool, but yeah, so
Carlos actually said he goes, dude, he goes.
I thought that was a newerversion or a bootleg version of
the song.
You almost sound like RobHalford what a compliment to say
to somebody, because RobHalford is the man when it comes
to vocals.

(01:06:20):
And he's like you did a greatjob, and so, carlos, I mean come
on man, you touched my heart, you really did.
Believe it or not, I didn'thave a problem singing that song
.

Speaker 2 (01:06:33):
No, I don't understand.

Speaker 5 (01:06:35):
And last but not least, here comes the train
wreck.

Speaker 2 (01:06:37):
Don't tell the train wreck.
Nope, we're not going to tellthe train wreck.
Hold that thought we're goingto break for a song, so this is
Okay and then we're going tocome back.
All right, she moves asphaltjungle from the EP Destination
Unknown.
All right, don't go anywhere, because you will want to know
who this last winner is, andwe'll be back.

Speaker 3 (01:07:22):
Ha ha ha.
We'll be right back Hanging tenwith her friends.
She'll always be there till thevery end.
Fun comes and comes, shedoesn't care.
All she wants is the way aroundBig town.

(01:07:45):
Slow down, it's all the same.
When the music plays, she can'thear the same.
She's dreaming and she'sdreaming.

(01:08:05):
She likes her music, fast andslow.
The type of girl that you wannaknow, Living life to the edge.

(01:08:34):
The only thing that can be saidSit down, stand up and move
around.
Everywhere you look, she's inyour town.
Slip and slide into the beat.
This is the girl that you wantto meet.

(01:08:55):
She's dreaming and she'sdreaming.

(01:09:34):
She's free today and she's freetoday.
She's free today and she'dbreathe away.

Speaker 2 (01:10:16):
And welcome back.
That was she Moves AsphaltJungle's new EP coming out June
14th, this Friday, destinationUnknown.
See, stevens, I am enjoying allthe music tonight, enjoying all
about you and all the thingsyou got going on.
All right, so we're back, weare back.
We're back to the CD giveaway.

(01:10:37):
We've had one, two, three, fourthat we've already announced
Stacey Pemberton, jesse Cortez Iam Marshall, carlos Esposito
Gonzales, and now the last one, last but not least, that's right
, go ahead, let them know.
Go right, go ahead, let themknow.
Go ahead, go ahead.

Speaker 5 (01:10:56):
All right.
So it's Laurie Samuelson fromKitchener, Ontario, Canada, and
I just made a milestone with herand you know a lot of.
I'm going to say the storyabout it.
But also, although you know, Idon't know if any girls ever
want this milestone, they might, but every guy does.

(01:11:17):
And if you say you don't,you're full of it.
So Lori Samuelson works atRoxanne's, a gentleman's club in
Kitchener, and every night shegets up on stage to my song.
In the End I made it.
I finally made it.

Speaker 2 (01:11:32):
I can't with you.

Speaker 5 (01:11:33):
When you get your song played inside of a strip
club.
You've made it.
I finally made it.
I can't with you when you getyour song played inside of a
strip club.

Speaker 2 (01:11:37):
you've made it, I just can't, I'm done and, ladies
and gentlemen, that's the trainwreck.
I'm sorry.

Speaker 3 (01:11:49):
I'm sorry if I offended anybody with that, but
I'm sorry.

Speaker 5 (01:11:54):
I'm sorry if I offend anybody with that, but I'm
proud of that.
I am proud of that because howmany times, oh I better not,
never mind I can see peopleunfollowing me right now it's
like the man has gone off theedge.
Oh my gosh, wow, but this isfantastic it is a run, it is a

(01:12:21):
raunchy song and it is kind oftalking about that kind of
lifestyle.
So I get it.
Yeah, hey, hey, listen but Ijust thought that was so cool
for her to be so honest, sohonest about it and everything
else and I was like taken abacktoo, because I was like, wow,
that's kind of cool that you didthat.
So no, really, and I'm happythere were some really other

(01:12:46):
good stories and stuff and Icouldn't give all of these CDs.
I wish I could have.
Right, I couldn't give all ofthese CDs.
I wish I could have.
That's why everybody has to gobuy these CDs, so you can give
more away, right, but you know,on top of that, everybody's

(01:13:20):
showing that how much theyreally do care about asphalt
jungle music.
Absolutely, it really warmed meand touched me.
Um, you know, you see thesenumbers and you know, you, you
pay attention to some of thesenumbers and but you shouldn't
pay attention to them too much, right, uh, hard lesson I learned
, because you can get uh fixatedby them and, uh, it makes you
go down avenues that you don'tneed to go down.
But, um, I have questioned manytimes uh, you know, are these

(01:13:42):
followers, you know, for, really, for me, and you guys, I told
you all fans are the best.
I'm sorry, I've said it beforeand I'll say it again because,
um, because, yeah, I mean youguys ponied up, you listen to my
music every day.
Those numbers show and thenwhen I put this contest out

(01:14:04):
there, the numbers they wentthrough the roof.
That means, you know, showingthat people were going back,
going.
Oh, I better listen to the restof this stuff and see what I
like.
And it's just again.
I can't thank you enough Again.
The Asheville Jungle fans.
Amazing I wouldn't be on thisradio station, right now, if it

(01:14:24):
wasn't for them.

Speaker 2 (01:14:24):
That's right, absolutely.
The fans are.
You know what drives you allthe indie artists, I mean,
without the fans, what do yougot?

Speaker 5 (01:14:33):
Yeah, you don't have nothing and on top of it, I'm
I'm not a touring band, I'm aone-man studio band.
So even the love that I'mgetting because you can't see me
live or interact with me in aperson-to-person state like you
can with some of these othergreat bands out there um True,

(01:14:53):
you know that also my heart, butat the same time, do this for
you guys.

Speaker 2 (01:14:59):
Yeah, and we appreciate you.
I know I appreciate you.
You know from the first timethat I heard your music.
And coming all the way to todaywith Let your Hair Down, Power
Hour, your new EP DestinationUnknown, all the projects that
you have coming up, you aredoing something right.

Speaker 5 (01:15:20):

Speaker 2 (01:15:27):
He'll be on the show.
He'll be on this Sunday Out ofthe Attic.
Oh my God, what another greatguy, another great indie artist.
I'm so, I am so honored.
I'm always flattered that youknow, because I just started out
doing a little podcast on alittle little network station
before I started my own.
Oh my gosh, over almost threeyears now, to where I am now.

(01:15:49):
Where I have you, I have greatindie artists, you know, now
reaching out to me and saying, hey, can you spin this?
Or hey, can I do an interview.
It's like who, who, who with me.
So I'm humbled and I'm verygrateful to be able to sit down
with you, find out all aboutAshwalt, jungle and all the

(01:16:09):
other indie artists that havecome my way.
So yeah, I mean your music isgreat.
I love how you put spins on,you know, do your covers or your
originals, and it is such apassion of yours you know that
we've talked about that too.
I mean all the indie artists.
It has to be a passion for youall and when I get to talk to

(01:16:29):
you or any of the others, itjust comes flooding through you
know you're all so grateful toyour fans as well.

Speaker 5 (01:16:39):
Yeah, yeah Again, we wouldn't be here without you,
you know we wouldn't?

Speaker 2 (01:16:44):
Yeah, so well, keep doing what you do.
Do not stop doing what you do.
And do not stop doing a Letyour Hair Down Power Hour for
Friday nights for R2RP All right.
Tell everybody one more time ortwice.
Do not stop doing a let yourhair down power hour for Friday
nights for R2RB All right.
Tell everybody one more time ortwice and you can do that as
well where they can find you,how they're going to be able to
purchase the CD on Friday andthe best way to find out all

(01:17:06):
about that.

hard copy of this CD from thewebsite asphaltjunglecom.
Okay, a-s-h-f-a-u-l-t, then theword jungle.

(01:17:28):

(01:17:54):
Power Hour.
I'm going to probably be doingsome newer things on there.
Cool, you know, might be doingsome requests for the mainstream
songs, and why.

Speaker 2 (01:18:05):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (01:18:06):
And things like that.
So keep your ear to the ground, for that you can.
You know again, guys and gals,if you've got something that you
think would really, that wouldreally move me and and works
with the show, again, let yourhair down.
power hour at gmailcom you knowI'm not gonna play that mp3 you

(01:18:27):

If I do play you, I'm gonna godownload it and then play that
version, because that's the wayI want to do this show and every
artist that is showcased thatweek, except for the mainstreams
.
I purchase the downloads.
So I purchase the mainstreams, but most of them I already own

stuff on on the official youtubepage.
Uh, now, no, there are novideos as of yet for anything
off this upcoming album.
There are plans in the workfuture-wise to do some.

(01:19:37):
They won't be the cheesy greenscreen stuff I've been doing.
We are talking about doing somereal production type videos for
a couple songs off this album.

Speaker 2 (01:19:49):
I like the video you did for America.

Speaker 5 (01:19:53):
