And a new CEO X Partnership program means we attract the

(00:43):

Let's go. When you're starting a business
or deciding to pursue your dreams and your passions and and
all of the delulu things, there is a space between success and

(01:05):
wealth that very few people talkabout.
And it is a gap that is incredibly painful.
And that is what this episode isabout.
If you are in that in between place, this is for you.
I once heard a music industry pro say of young Destinys child.

(01:28):
This was a up and coming group. Everybody was raving about them
at the time but I'll never forget this.
In an interview, the pro said they'll gain fame years before
they ever get rich from it. I was really young at the time.
I mean, probably, gosh, I don't even know.
I don't want to age myself, but I was just young.
Not like in high school or anything.

(01:49):
But I was young when they came out.
And I just sat there. And it really stuck to me
because, you know, so often we think, oh, they're famous.
They must be rich. Like, oh, my gosh, everybody
knows who they are or look at what they've accomplished.
Like, where's the mansion? OK.
That's the society that we live in, OK.
Today, many people, especially Christians, are experiencing a

(02:14):
similar thing or having these like outward successes and
achievements, yet struggling to generate the income that matches
it. Hello, imposter syndrome.
I mean, that's all I have to say.
And it's a different kind of imposter syndrome because
there's the imposter syndrome oflike, I don't feel qualified to
be on the stage or speak at the subject or have a seat at this

(02:37):
table with all of these successful men.
And then there's, I know, I knowI'm a badass, but like, I also
live in a townhome in a very modest life because I'm not
rich, rich. And what will people think of
that, right? It could feel like like off,
like there's like a mismatch andconfusing, right?

(02:57):
So there's now countless storiesthat I've come across on social
media from, I will say, brave people willing to sound off from
the gap between success and wealth.
I'm going to share an example ofone that I came across that
actually inspired me to record this episode.
And it was a young man, early 20s, who posted a photo of

(03:21):
himself at work. It looks like maybe he's a clerk
at a local store, something likethat.
But the caption reads when you're the face of the Met Gala
and still have to clock in to pay rent.
And it literally stopped me in my tracks because on one hand, I
was like, so proud of him, right, For even posting that.

(03:44):
Because imagine you're the face of the Met Gala.
He's all over Times Square on the digital billboards.
He's on countless campaigns. His face is literally at the Met
everywhere. It's like he's the theme, right,
of the this year's Met Gala. And and yet I could imagine the
pressure of like wanting to sortof match that energetically,

(04:09):
like in your finances or in yournarrative of like who you are,
like, oh, like, you know what I mean?
Like you're already like, you'vealready arrived without, you
know, him realizing this old, old interview with Destiny's
Child, right, That they were famous for, I think they said,
two or three years before they ever actually began getting

(04:31):
wealthy. And and yet there he was brave
enough to, to, to really amplifythat contrast from the gap, as
I'm calling it, right? I mean, look, we can all agree
it's undeniable that being in your 20s, I mean, really at any
age, right? And being the face of the Met
Gala is a, is a masterful achievement.
I mean, listen, very few people will ever attain some of that.

(04:55):
Some of you might listen to thisand go, who actually cares about
the Met Gala? But it's still, it's still an
accomplishment. But because we live in a society
that imposes this belief that purpose and passion and talent
must be monetized in order to claim the success, label an
achievement as awesome and as great and iconic as what he's

(05:16):
been able to achieve may actually end up feeling like
it's simply not good enough. Maybe even onlookers who saw his
post might be like, oh, well, I guess it's not that great.
I mean, he's a a young man of color.
So of course there was that narrative in the comment
section. Oh, it's because they don't pay
us enough or whatever the case may be.
And I'm not saying that those instances aren't true, but that

(05:38):
wasn't the context of his. That wasn't the point he was
trying to make, but it's clear that the bridge between success
and wealth is faith and perseverance, delusion and
determination, clarity and focus.
But if you're a Christian, this is a place where gold takes its
shape. And for everyone, everyone,

(05:59):
Christian or not, on their business building, brand
creation, purpose filled journey, this is where dreams
often die. It's in this place, and this
place is a stretch. For some people, it's that hard
year. For some people it's a hard five
years. When I think about some of the
venture capitalists that I've heard and even met, and some of

(06:23):
the people that describe that have a lot of money that invest
in businesses, specifically startups or you know, tech
startups or whatever the case may be, They're not even looking
to get a profit for 10 years. Some of these VC funds like
mature in like 15 years, 20 years.

(06:45):
It's really like around 10 years, but you know, 10 to 15
years. But yet and still the public,
like all the working class and everybody, you know, in all
these different classes that arenot in that 1% have this idea
that success or or notoriety equals wealth.
That starting a business and championing for your business or

(07:06):
taking the leap of faith into your purpose equals wealth.
Like why would you do it if you're not rich?
Or why aren't you rich? Like if you're actually
succeeding, then why don't you live in a mansion?
That's just unfortunately, the near sightedness.
That's the near sighted list andsightedness that we live in.
But there's one thing psychologists and entrepreneurs

(07:27):
and millionaires and billionaires and dream chasers
can all agree that this gap, this is the test.
It is in this stretch of time that is the make or break.
This is it. This is a win or fail.
This is this is the separates the winners from the losers.

(07:50):
And I don't even like to call people losers, but you see what
I'm saying? That's why fewer people make it
than everybody else because of this gap that I'm describing
here. So look, if you're stuck in
life's dichotomy, it's a dichotomy, OK?
It's so funny. I made a note for myself calling
it like the dump, the tumble dryer, the dichotomy, tumble

(08:12):
dryer of life. You're almost there.
That's the good news. The good news is you're almost
there and you're not alone. Seems like it for sure.
But you're not alone. Every single successful person
you see, past, present, and eventhose from the future, all stood

(08:37):
and must stand where you are right now.
If you're listening to this and you are in the gap.
All of them are racking their brain trying to figure out how
to bridge the gap between the success that they're clearly
seeing with their eyes and bridging that gap and shrinking

(08:59):
the gap with the money they're needing to legitimize it all.
And not just legitimize it for the public, you know, onlookers,
peers, family, but for themselves.
Fun fact, I'm recording this episode from that gap.

(09:19):
You're listening to a woman who has a long standing career
building and marketing brands. I got to speak at Ted X.
Some would be like, wow, like you got to do that.
Like where's your mansion? Where's your Rolls Royce?
Where's, you know, where's all the money, private jets, you
know, being featured across various media, all of these

(09:40):
things, OK. Because I, because I went all in
on a deeply mission driven business that you've heard me
talk about time and time again, right.
And here's the thing, the blessing that I have been able
to experience in building a brand as beautiful and amazing
as she EOX is that we've done. So there's there's three legs of

(10:00):
the stool at the time of this recording.
And the beautiful part about it is, is that we have made every
decision not based on monetization.
Every decision we've made about the business has not been about
money. It has not been about will this
make us money? You know, what does it mean if

(10:23):
it costs US money? That's, that's some of that
stuff. Is there some of it?
A lot of it hasn't been. So it's really made it, It's
given us a lot of freedom. Money gives you a different kind
of freedom. We, we've obviously reached that
point when we recognize like, OK, now we've experienced all
this creative freedom and all this mission driven, passion

(10:45):
filled freedom. And now we're wanting the other
kind of freedom, the financial freedom.
And with that though, we are able to so still distinguish
between the two. And that's why I wanted to share
that part of it, because there is a distinct difference between

(11:05):
the two. And being forced into a marriage
by society is uncomfortable. And yet we all need money to
survive and thrive and, and do all these things.
However, if you are standing in the gap and you're standing in
that cold place and you're seeing success, you're getting

(11:28):
invited into rooms that the average person either has to pay
to be there or is faking their way there or is clawing their
way there. And, and, and you didn't have to
do all these things and you are there, my dear, like you have
now achieved success. This dude's the, the face of the

(11:50):
Met Gala and he's working at like a, a little shop.
It's like a little, I don't knowwhat kind of store it is.
I, I mean, it's like AI don't know Kinko's or like a, you know
what I'm talking about, right? Like a FedEx store or something.
And if he can proudly stand there and make that statement,
why are you feeling some kind ofway because you're in the gap?

(12:13):
You need to be so proud that notonly that you made it to the gap
because again, to be in the gap is not to have just started and
you're in this valley. That's different.
What I'm talking about is you have done the work and clearly
have you the received accolades, notoriety, access, you know,

(12:34):
exposure, whatever the case may be.
OK, but it but it looks like you're winning all day every
day. And not because you're faking
it, but because your business isactually achieving these these
things or your or your mission or your goal or your career is
achieving these things. But the money doesn't match.
You're in the gap and you shouldbe so proud.

(12:55):
You should be celebrating. I know it sounds crazy because
you made it this far. You made it to the place, let's
call it the Valley of the Bones,The valley of dead dreams in a
way, right? You've made it to that place
where very few survived. Is it worth it?

(13:17):
Well, only if you keep going. Happy travels.
