for more money, magnetism andcourse impact.
It's a platform for womenleaders wanting to embrace their
natural abilities to create, lead and flow, unlocking their
inherent potential forprosperity and living in
alignment with their truestselves, because it's your
birthright to flourish in thenaturalness of the woman you
(00:45):
were born to be.
Thanks so much for being here.
Let's dive in.
Hi and welcome to a new episodeof the Naturally Prosperous
Woman podcast.
I'm your host, tara Preston, and today we're diving into
creative expression, authenticleadership, shifting past
(01:07):
perfection and using creativityas a tool to find greater flow
in your life.
So this creativity piece is apiece that's near and dear to my
heart.
I studied with Laura Hollick, who is the creator, founder, of
the soul art process, probably10 years ago.
(01:29):
I found her and fell in lovewith her process.
I was coming from a backgroundas a professional makeup artist
who was a dabbling creative, soI still would refer to myself as
more of a creative than maybean artist, and I love the
process of creativity and whatit opens up for women and,
(01:53):
truthfully, everyone is creative.
I personally weave creativityinto every faucet of my life and
it is essentially a beautifulway to deepen into and to
connect to the energy of thegoddess.
So I found Laura Hollick adecade ago.
She introduced me to her bodymapping method and that's such a
(02:17):
beautiful creative journeywhere we creatively express
through the landscape of thebody as a way to connect to the
body, and I fell in love.
I ended up studying with herfor many, many years through
learning, through many of hermethods and creative practices
for grounding more of the soulinto the body and as a way for
(02:43):
the soul to more fully expressin the physical world.
But one of the things, thereasons that I love creativity,
is because it can actually bequite simple and because it
sometimes terrifies women to becreative, to actually put a
crayon on a sheet of paper or totake a paintbrush and free flow
(03:04):
paint, create and express.
I love what it brings up forwomen because creativity is such
a teacher, it's such a mirrorto understanding where we get in
our own way with creative flow.
And so often I've had womenover the years who you know,
(03:25):
they fall into the perfectionistpatterns, the people pleasing
patterns.
They don't.
It feels hard, it doesn't feellike they've found their
creative flow.
And so creativity is a way toshift beyond that, to start to
work with creative expression asa way to tap into flow, as a
(03:49):
way to actually open up to moreof would you believe it our
authentic leadership, becauseour authentic leadership is
natural, raw, free, flowing.
It's expressive in that it isunique to who we are.
And so, as we start to createand express and allow the
(04:12):
creative energy to take hold, westart to trust the process, we
start to allow it to lead, westart to move past caring what
people think about our creativeexpression, we start to have fun
, we start to play and we startto open to how creative energy
and essentially the flow wantsto open, to guide our creations,
(04:36):
to guide our path, and it isunbelievably healing.
And so I will give you a coupledifferent ways.
If this is like this creativitypiece of you're listening to
this and you're like I wouldlove to move past perfectionism,
I would love to move to open upto you know greater creativity.
You know the ways thatcreativity plays out.
(04:57):
For me is, you know, absolutelythrough free, flowing, creative,
playful expression on thecanvas.
I love mucking around withpaint, putting music on, moving,
dancing.
It really shakes and wakes upthe creative energy and I can
find a lot of flow in that thatcan guide my day, my launches,
(05:19):
my program creation, all of it.
But I also, you know, as a pastmakeup artist, part of the
reason I loved makeup wasbecause of the creative
expression, right, and actuallymy style of makeup was very
natural, like, very, it was theno makeup makeup look.
I just love the act of playingwith soft colors and bringing
(05:41):
out our sacred feminine essence.
And it could actually be a veryempowering space for women to
light a candle and to bring loveto themselves and to nurture
and nourish, just like touchingtheir skin and playing with soft
colors right To like emphasizeour natural beauty.
So still to this day, I love, you know, creative expression
(06:02):
through that faucet, for sure, and also through nourishment
through food.
I, you know, right now, I'm abudding.
I'm a budding holisticnutritionist and I just have a
passion for food in that it canbe so nourishing through just
the colors and the texturesright, just like falling in love
(06:24):
with the bounty of the goddessas food, right, like all of the
all of what Mother Earthsupplies us with and the beauty
of all of that and the colorsand the tastes and the textures
and how we get to create throughthe art of food preparation and
cooking, and that it gets to befun and experimental.
(06:46):
For me it's like quiteintuitive and I just really
enjoy the whole process.
So that's one aspect that Iallow creativity to really take
up spaces in the in the kitchen.
And then the other place that Ilove letting creativity through
is what I wear, is through whatI wear, and it's very common
when I'm working with women, youknow to do this journey of like
(07:11):
opening them up to more andmore of their creative
expression.
And then you start to see thatexpression come through in their
wardrobe.
Things soften, they relax, theyplay with color.
It's like their, their Shaktistyle, right Like it's like the
goddess really shows up in thatspace of playfulness and of
expression through the uniqueway that we're meant to create
(07:34):
and express, and so our wardrobecan be another really fun,
playful avenue for our creativeexpression.
So when we're dealing with, youknow feeling stuck and when
we're dealing with perfection, right, it often means that on
some level our creative energyis stifled.
Creative energy, in essence, isreally kind of follows the same
(07:59):
vibration as playfulness, asfun, as joy, as ease, right and
so creativity gives us a veryhands on way of opening up to
that energy and then bringingthrough balance in our system,
right, so that we can find adifferent way to create, to lead
(08:19):
to manifest that feels really alot more natural and intrinsic
to the way that we as divinebeings in this human body are
meant to create.
So that's my invitation todayis to playfully open to the
possibilities of more creativityin your life.
(08:41):
So, whether it's throughwardrobe, whether it's through
makeup, you know, for myself, Ilove, like we're right on the
spring, of moving into thespring equinox March 21st and,
by the way, if this is speakingto you, I've got a really
beautiful program called LettingEssence Lead and it's on sale
right now until the end of themonth for 197 USD, and it really
(09:03):
is kind of like this opening tothe energy of the goddess to
reinvent our life more fullyinto the sacred expression of
who we're born to be as women atthis point in our evolution and
the seasons in the cyclesreally guide us and hold us
through that evolution.
So when we can harness thepower of the current that
(09:26):
naturally flows through theseasons of the end cycles, it
supports our evolution.
It can really hold us.
I'll put the link for theprogram down below, but if this
speaks to you and you want tolearn more, definitely Tara at
TaraPrestoncom and I can shootthe PDF over.
Actually, I don't have alanding page for this so you
(09:48):
would have to email me, but theprogram itself is gorgeous, so
anyways.
So whether creativity throughmakeup oh and this is what I was
going to say is, I justrecently kind of took myself
through this whole like creative, like reinvention, like really
using the creativity and thegoddess energy to nourish me and
(10:09):
to move me into my nextexpression, and so one of the
things that I did was a makeupbag detox, and we always we need
to be able to let go of the oldto create space for the new and
the upgraded.
So I went through my makeup bagand got rid of everything that
was kind of like old, outdated, you know, just didn't spark joy
really when I was like lookingat like the colors or the lip
(10:31):
gloss or whatever it was.
And then I took a coupleSephora trips and upgraded my
makeup bag and it brought somuch freshness and vitality.
And I don't wear a lot ofmakeup, but the pieces that I do
have, you know, I got somereally beautiful like a soft,
like a baby pink eyeshadow, andI got some really pretty cream
(10:57):
peach blushes and some reallysoft like lip glosses, a brand
new natural mascara, and updatedmy foundation with a mineral
foundation that just is so glowyand it really reinvigorated my
morning routine and became aplace of sacredness and self
care as a touch point right inthe morning, and I had kind of
(11:20):
gotten away from that.
But these are important pieces, you know, when we're coming
into deep and sacredrelationship with ourselves, you
know, these little touch pointsof how we nourish and nurture
ourselves becomes very important.
So, whether it's through makeup, whether it's through maybe,
you know, you take yourself onan intuitive shopping date and
(11:43):
you get into the energy of playand flow and fun and dream into
something, a color, a texture orsomething, right.
That would really move you intothat playful expression, right,
that just uplifts you, thatjust makes you feel a little bit
more free and you let yourself, you know, try on different
(12:04):
colors and try on differenttypes of clothes until something
feels fun and feels good.
So or maybe it's, you know, playing with the food, playing,
going shopping and reallyexperimenting with a different
type of recipe or more colorthrough the different variety of
, like peppers, right, maybe youjust want to play around with
(12:27):
that color, texture, all ofthese things.
It's so nourishing to our soul,so nourishing to our soul.
So that's my invitation.
I'm also going to introduce youto a morning creative
meditation practice as an easyway to start to sink into that
(12:47):
connection to creativity.
But I want to share a little bitabout something that I've
noticed with clients in the pastwhen they start to open up to
creativity, so again, everyoneis creative.
But we have these blocks, oftentimes from childhood right,
where maybe we createdsomething and we showed a
teacher or a parent and they'relike uh-huh, yeah, and we were
(13:09):
really excited about it, but thefeedback that we got wasn't
very validating.
So, you know, we can end upshutting off our belief in the
beauty of our creativeexpressions.
So or maybe we just it wasnever nurtured, it was a never a
nurtured piece, and so we justreally have no idea like how to
(13:29):
creatively express that canhappen too.
So there's something thathappens and one thing that I've
been introducing again to myclients and was actually a kind
of a simple piece that I startedto introduce to myself for
myself as well.
When I was moving through mymotherhood initiation, I didn't
have a lot of time for art orcreativity, but I started
(13:52):
coloring mandalas and I printedoff a whole bunch on the
computer and I went and gotcrayons or pencil crayons or
what probably would have beenpencil crayons, and I would on
the new moon and then on thefull moon, because at that time
I was still finding my way withdifferent centering practices.
But I would use the full moonand the new moon as touch points
(14:15):
.
I was starting to work with thelunar cycles for more
nourishment and sustainabilityand self-connection, which is
often a piece that I'm workingwith my clients on, and so I
would just light a candle, Iwould say a little prayer, I
would gather up all my pencilcrayons and I would just spend
that time in devotion tocoloring and to enjoying the
(14:37):
space of presence, to enjoyingthe soft pencil strokes, to
enjoying the color, just lettingit kind of center me and
delight me.
But it also became a verycentering practice in that when
I would do this practice I wouldall of a sudden have different
insights and ah-has and magicwould kind of like open up in
that space.
Because there's something thathappens when we start to tap
(15:00):
into creativity it actuallyshifts us from more of the right
brain mode, right, the linearmind that often is a lot more
focused on like details, outcome, strategy, right, a lot of like
where the control orperfectionism mechanisms can
come from, and it actuallystarts to switch us over into
(15:22):
more of the left brain and itbegins to open the channel to
our higher self without themental chatter of the mind.
So it's easier for us to accessour intuition.
It feels almost like I'm on the.
I've created a divine femininecoloring book In the fall,
(15:45):
actually, and it's just beensitting there and sitting there.
It's so funny.
I've been talking more and moreabout, like, creativity and art
again and I've been tellingclients to start a coloring
practice because it's so simpleand your creativity can grow
from there.
And this coloring book it justseems to keep popping up.
So keep your eye out for that.
(16:05):
It's so beautiful and yeah, andso this act of creativity for
those that feel like creativityis inaccessible going and
purchasing a Mandela coloringbook or downloading some
Mandela's or drawing your ownMandela, right, but it's as
simple as lighting a candle, bringing color in and presencing
(16:28):
ourselves, and that can be hardto do for some people.
To just be in a space ofpresence, right, we all we hear
so much about trauma, right, andnot having or feeling safe to
just relax into the body.
And, granted, this is not goingto fix all of our trauma
patterns and triggers anddiscomfort when it comes to
(16:51):
looking at ways to be morepresent, but it can be a really
powerful tool for it, and it wasfor me.
It became kind of an initialtouch point of learning to claim
sacred space for myself, oflearning to connect in, of
learning to just be present andto be sorry, be present and to
(17:14):
enjoy it, so that in and ofitself, is a really beautiful
practice.
I want to talk a little bitabout free flowing creative
expression, and this becomes alittle bit more like daunting
sometimes for people who, youknow, maybe feel like they need
more of like a coloring book ormore of like a step by step
process to guide you, and thatis totally okay If that's like
(17:38):
where you're at and that's whatworks, beautiful.
The only way that we can startto tap into great, greater
creativity is going to nourishour life and our experience in
big, big ways.
You know, especially if you'resomebody who is trying to figure
out content for your business, right, it's like you just can't
seem to access that inspirationor like that flow of ideas.
(17:59):
Tapping into the goddess energy, tapping into the creativity
energy starts to open all ofthat up and we start to find
greater flow and ease and how wecreate right and how we lead.
So I do want to talk about freeflowing creative expression,
because it is my favorite andbecause I've seen working with
women how terrifying it could be.
(18:22):
And, granted, I understand thatthere's something about free
flowing creativity or even, youknow, just guiding a creative
process where we're really justkeeping it super simple, letting
the inner child kind of likeexpress.
Maybe it's even just like, youknow, stickman or a flower.
We're getting pretty basic inthe creative expression and
that's okay, because creativeexpression is creative
(18:43):
expression, it's communicationbetween you and the soul and it
just allows for a way for us tostart to understand how
creativity wants to work throughus, speak to us and how it can
help us heal and awakendifferent aspects of our life.
So, whatever it is, Iunderstand that sometimes it's
(19:06):
terrifying and there's a part ofus where we're expressing and
the fear comes from not gettingit right Fear of judgment, fear
of imperfection, fear of beingmessy, right and like.
Messy is like a piece that I'moften working with women on,
because creative expression hastaught me that it is okay to be
(19:29):
messy, but messy lets us letloose.
Messy lets us make mistakes.
Messy lets us trial and error.
Messy is freedom, right, likeand it messy, often like, just
let's the wild expression thatwants to flow through us, to
flow in a very, very free, flowing, non-judge, judgmental
(19:55):
way, where we're letting go ofour inhibitions, so can be so
powerful and what we learn aboutour expression through that
process is powerful.
So in the initial stages, whenwe're working with creativity,
you know we might find that webump up against, you know, not
loving the art or having to likework on it until it feels
(20:18):
perfect, but then it's notperfect and it's just.
We push it away and we don'thave anything to do with it and
we get frustrated.
But the thing the key is is tolet the art be the teacher, let
the creative expression be theteacher.
Right, it's like, why, whatabout it is making you
frustrated?
Where can you shift theperception right from having to
(20:41):
need it, look a certain way toloving it for what it is?
Right, like that, that is thekey.
And it's tricky.
But for loving it for what it is, how can you let the process of
creativity be the teacher?
Where did you get stuck?
Right, where in the processwhere you finding more joy?
Right, what?
(21:02):
What?
More joy?
More flow, more ease, right,what?
What was it about?
That's that time in that space,in the creative process, that
actually opened up more spacefor that?
Right, and it starts to teachyou and show you that.
Yeah, so when you go to yourbusiness or you go to create a
program, where you go to createor you go to create, you know
(21:25):
content.
Right, it's like what did youlearn about the creative process
that you can now weave intoother aspects where you're
creating, so that theperfectionism and the gripping
and the controlling can kind ofease up and you can find more
joy and flow through the process.
Right, you're going to findyour best, most authentic work
(21:49):
when you can get out of your ownway and let the flow Kind of
lead and where you can create anexpress in a really uninhabited
way.
There's always space to refineour creations, but the authentic
transmission comes through whenwe can do it from an
uninhabited, uninhibited placeand there's an, there's an art
(22:12):
to that.
And it takes time to build thatmuscle and it takes time to
open to how creative energywants to move through us and how
to trust that process and howto not judge ourselves through
that process, how to loveourselves through that process,
how to really start to see thebeauty in our raw expression.
(22:34):
Right, that, and that's wherewe start to really tap into our
authentic leadership, like wherewe can just let what wants to
come through, come throughwithout a filter, right as the
unique transmission of who weare.
So art can teach us so much, creative expression can teach us
(22:55):
so much, and we can take itsmall and we can take it step by
step and we can look for waysto integrate more creativity
into our lives through differentaspects.
Right, and every person iscreative.
It's, it's creative energy,it's what we're born.
To do is to create and to fillthe joy Of creative expression.
(23:19):
Yes, to feel the joy ofcreative expression.
It's just not typicallysomething that's nurtured or has
been nurtured through us in aschildren, and so part of you
know sometimes what we'rehealing to through creative
expression is the inner childright, where the inner child
(23:40):
wants to create and express partof it right.
Especially if we didn't havethat nurtured within us as
children and where we can listen, for where there may be shame
right, or where there may beapprehension right, or where
there may be fear of judgment,we can listen and then we can
(24:02):
remember well, where did I as achild experience this right and
where can we go back along thattimeline and change the
narrative by bringing newlanguage, new self-talk.
Right Of encouragement, supportright.
The thing that stops so manywomen from leading powerfully
(24:25):
beyond the edge of where theyare, where they can carve their
own unique path, is trustingtheir uniqueness.
Trusting that it's okay to putyourself out there in new and
different ways, trusting thatit's okay to make a mistake,
whatever a mistake is, becauseit's all just feedback, right,
trial and error.
There's so many times where inthe creative process it's like
(24:47):
I'm trying a little, maybe I'lltry a bit of that color, maybe
I'll try a little bit of thatcolor.
Oh, I don't like that color.
Okay, I'm going to paint overthat, right.
That's the same in essence, thesame energy and invitation that
creativity like raw, likecreativity, just tapping into
the naturalness of ourcreativity offers us.
(25:08):
It gives us a playground, aspace to start to open up to our
own unique expression, the waythe energy wants to move through
us, and then how that starts totranslate to how we create our
lives.
So oftentimes women start tofind this like flow, this ebb
and this flow.
They start to open up to moreof their creativity.
(25:28):
I always give like a lot ofcreative assignments with my
clients, and so you can see theenergy start to open up and it
starts to touch in and nourishand nurture other parts of their
life.
And then there can be stuckpoints.
I think it usually falls inaround like controlling the
outcome.
Controlling the outcome, nottrusting, not allowing, and so
(25:51):
we have to, and part of this iscoming into a new internal space
of harmony, right, it's likewhere those old patterns maybe
worked at one point, but wherethere's a new muscle, a new
energy that wants to lead, andso we look at like untangling.
You know why is there a needfor control?
Why is there a need to suppressthe creative energy?
(26:17):
Where is that coming from?
What's the fear and where canwe build trust in how the
creative energy wants to open tosupport you, right?
So I think most women reallywant, like, greater flow.
They want to shift pastperfectionism because, while it
can serve us aesthetically andit can absolutely serve
(26:38):
different aspects of ourbusiness it can also be very
limiting.
Right, we're meant to have acertain level of vitality, of
joy, of nourishment.
Right, creativity is verynourishing.
Right, we're meant to be ableto feel the ease and the joy of
the creative energy pulsingthrough us, guiding our path,
(26:59):
our authentic leadership, right, and our soulful evolution.
So, if this is you, if you'reready to shift past, you know
perfectionism, you knowcontrolling the details, feeling
that sense of like stifledenergy.
I hear you.
I've been working with women forover a decade.
I know that this is a commonpiece.
(27:19):
It can show up.
It could show up in the way ofwhat we wear.
It can show up with how we youknow even how we cook.
Right, it's just finding a morerelaxed state and space with
our creative expression, in away where we get to take up
space with it, without the fearof judgment or without feeling
like we have to grasp or controlthe way that energy wants to
(27:43):
move through us.
And I'm sure, to a degree, Istill have little pieces like
that that show up, although I dofeel like this is a superpower
for me for sure.
So if you love this, I'd loveto hear from you.
