Lionel came on to share the unique 52-year journey of the Relaxation Centre of Queensland and its awe-inspiring ride; one astonishing miracle after another in opening doors, overcoming many significant challenges and immeasurable worthwhile interaction with hundreds of thousands of people.
Shortly after moving from the UK in 1963 to Brisbane Australia Lionel Fifield started his own chartered accounting and insurance broking business.
From his teens he’d had an intense fear of public speaking and found Toastmasters when he was 22 to overcome this fear, subsequently launching many new clubs.
In his early 30s he became very ill and medical specialists told him he would be unlikely to live past 40. From then on Lionel began to explore the essence of relaxation and to take personal responsibility for his health - he has just retired in good health at 85.
In 1974 Lionel established the Relaxation Centre of Queensland with six others, leaving his two businesses to become full-time Coordinator in 1977.
The key guidelines* flowed from his pen in the second week of founding the Centre. This unique not-for-profit organisation ultimately presented hundreds of personal and spiritual growth courses and brought many famous overseas speakers to Australia. Many commented they’d never seen any organisation in the world function with such a way. It was there to make people, not money.
In 1979 Lionel was asked to present a talk at the famous Findhorn foundation One Earth Gathering in Scotland attended by hundreds of people from around the world. From then until Covid he spoke twice a year overseas in many overseas cities and towns and other times throughout Australia.
Lionel has seen Coordinating the Relaxation Centre as a journey of faith rather than fear - and importantly one of service to bring hope, caring, and love in the best way humanly possible.
The Centre has always been about the power of love, not the love of power. He often told people he believed the Relaxation Centre has been run from another level entirely and he was simply the hands and feet of a higher intelligence doing what was needed for the Centre. In October 2024
Lionel felt the journey of the Relaxation Centre should come to a completion by the end of the year. His book, ‘Our Partnership with Life - The Remarkable Journey of the Relaxation Centre of Queensland’ was published shortly before the Centre closed.

Are You A Charlotte?
In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
