Our series begins in the sequoia woodlands of the Tule River Indian Reservation, nestled in California’s San Joaquin Valley. Here, we discover the sacred site of Painted Rock, where centuries-old pictographs guide us through the creation story of the Tachi-Yokut people and reveal the significance of an enigmatic being as old as time. His body covered in hair, and his eyes filled with tears... He is known as Mayak Datat.
