Speaker 1 (00:00):
Can I wraps?

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Hey mate, how's it go?

Speaker 1 (00:02):
I'm good mate?

Speaker 3 (00:03):
How you doing?

Speaker 1 (00:04):
Mate? Look we haven't spoke for a while, but look
on the back of some losses. Well, I don't want
to focus on the negative. I'm not all about that,
as you know, but how's how's the move being after
a couple of losses and lean yous were very spirited
last week and if last week you probably would have
been in thirteen at thirteen of the fifteen teams.

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Yeah, it was, you know on that efforts. Yes, Stick
spoke about that, and you know, as much as you know,
the effort was there. We turned up in defense. You know,
I think especially with the amount of position we gave
to Melbourne, you know, the score line should have been
a lot higher. So but you know, if it only

(00:43):
gets you so far, we were just too handed the
ball over too many times. You know, we had far
too many errors and gave them too many league ups
and let them out of their half. And something that
we've focused about focused on this week and yeah we can't.
We can't be doing that this week, especially good to night.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Yeah, a week before that wraps against that the Tigers
do you very quickly jump past that a lot of
people have asked, we always get barred up in the
streets and the survey. Everyone's talking about the results, all
the fans, and a lot of my answers are just
that's just sports. Sometimes things can get out of hand
and then you're on the back foot and sport that
there's no prediction there with sport, and it can happen.
Was that one of those cases with the Tigers a

(01:24):
week earlier.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Well, obviously we don't forget about it, you know, we
we addressed it and there was you know, it is
it is a you know, it was an embarrassing game
and no offense to the Tigers, but you know, they
shouldn't shouldn't be putting that many points on us. And

(01:49):
you know, but then, like you said, now I want
to focus too much on the on the negatives, and
you know, we use that as as a bit of
motivation and sometimes of the losses. As much as I
hate losing, you sometimes get more out of a loss.
And I know we lost against Melbourne, but it was
a really good kick up the kick up the bum

(02:10):
and obviously we still lost. Even though we lost that
Melbourne down there, it was much better science defensively and
I think what heard us, as I touched on before,
was just the errors that we had.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
You know, he drops far too.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Many, too many ball inside their half and just gave
Melbourne lots of possession. And you know, fortunate for us,
our defense was good and we worked and scrambled for
each other, but you know, we just fell short.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Perhaps have been around for a good, strong decade. You've
been in the last three or four incarnations of this
canber Raider's roster, so you've seen all the different kinds
of phases. You've seen the highs, you've seen the lows,
you've seen the Grand Finals, you've seen all the different
kind of positions that were regul league player can experience.
Sometimes it just becomes a bit of a habit. We
make those kinds of those errors and unfortunately for us,

(03:02):
like we've been great and we're being okay, but some
of the errors have allowed this opposition to do their thing.
And you mentioned about the Melbourne game, if that was
completion at ninety three percent, we get the two points,
probably because we get we complete so high, we always win.
That's just the way that we are.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
Can you sense can go on? No, I think it's
it doesn't matter you know, who you're playing against.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
I think if you if you can given us giving.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
Yourself anything over eighty percent completion rate, I think you're
going very close to winning a game. And we showed
that in rounds one and two. I think I think
even round one, you know, it was we were completing
over ninety. We had a nine completion rate against Nights,
you know, and it wasn't a coincidence we put forty
on them. You know, it's and that's round one. Usually

(03:52):
it takes a few few rounds to get you know,
get your mojo. So it just goes to show that
it can be fixed. It probably just if anything laps
in concentration maybe you know, it was, Yeah, just just
it's a basic fundamental thing. A lot of a lot
of the araors just kh actually from catching simple high
ball or play the ball, you know, just getting it up,

(04:15):
playing it properly. But you know, we've just shot ourselves,
especially in the lights against the Cowboys, Tigers and even
the Storm these last three rounds especially, you know, we've
really shot ourself itself in the foot with that. So yeah,
we just we need to be better, and we've got
really no answer for.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
That because what I was saying is basically, like I said,
you've been around long enough to see the ins and
outs of a team and the good time. The good
times always go through a strong period. A good time
meaning you get a good role when we have a
good four or five weeks when everything is going great,
and then you might then you get a period where
you've had a few losses and I just you know,
I'm saying that is hopefully we're out of it now,

(04:57):
out of that kind of the lull that we had.
Do you you sense and you can see, okay, we're
out of it now, because I mean, if you knew
the answer to that would all but you'd be a millionaire.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Right.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
It's not we can't sport, but the collectively. Do you
feel your rock up on game to day with your
bag and you go, okay, I can feel that you
do your warm up and the field and clicks.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
There's games where I've rocked up and we've prepped really well,
had an awesome week of training and you know, I
feel like we're on and then we go out and lose.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
So and then there's times.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Where I feel like in warm up and probably haven't
had the best week and then then warm up. It's
not you know, not as you just don't really have
that feeling, but then you go out and put forty
on a team, fifty on a team, so you know
it's it's a hard one.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
But you know, all you can do is just prep well.
And I think.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
For for us we have as you touched on it, and
we've got a very young, very young sided players like myself,
Papa Taps Elliott, you know, probably just having making sure
our training. You know, sometimes it can be hard on
young follows coming off two three losses. You know, it's
easy to fall in the slub, but just making sure

(06:07):
we're upbeat, full of energy, positive, you know, because as
you said, your one, your one went away from turning
that around. And you know, you just look at selves
five rounds ago, they're one and nine and they just
got that one winning and they start you get confidence
from that, and you know, I know that we're a
strong team and with a lot of character here at

(06:29):
uh at our club. And you know that's probably the
thing that was sticky as he touched on against the
Cowboys and Tigers especially, it was just well, you know,
we were usually we're a team that's always in the fight,
even up until the final whistle. And you know, those
two games, especially the Cowboys and Tiger's ones were embarrassing

(06:51):
because you know, not only were their home game, the
Cowboys game was a home game. But yeah, we we
just let them win firre too easy. It was almost
like we gave up them and that's not us. So yeah,
we've had a really good week of training. We've stayed
positive and it's an important, important win this week and

(07:13):
one if we can get it, I think we'll we'll
get that, get our mojo.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
Back absolutely, especially at home. And I say this to
the fans as well that are listening. It's like, now's
not the time to get disgruntled and it now's the
time to support because it's huge when you run out
on that Juo stadium. And I know, and I'll set
it to many of you guys over the years, youse
aren't out there saying come and support us to sell tickets.
You actually really embrace the energy that they bring because

(07:39):
that's that's their part, and you really feed off that energy, don't.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
Is Yes, one hundred percent mate, There's nothing better than
running out to a full, full packed stadium biking clap,
and yeah, fans probably don't realize it, but they do
have a massive impact on game day and getting us
across the line.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
You know.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
Going back to our team too, you know, Jamal's not
too far away. I think he was a massive loss.
You know, had me playing out a position at fullback,
he had Ko playing out of position at half back,
so you know, we had we did have to juggle
a lot of things around in our spine and as
I touched on our very inexperienced team, so especially in
the spine. But you know that should be still no excuse.

(08:22):
This is first grade and everybody's got a next man mentality,
everybody's got a step up. But I think having Jamal
and Hosco back in the next couple next week or
two will be huge for us, especially having a director
and his kicking game was.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
Such such a sad moment seeing jam and Lee go
down like that because he was absolutely on fire career
best football the first half of the year and on
the back of the success and obviously Hostco just put
that green jumper on mate and he was playing like
a like a legend of the club. And then having
them both potentially coming back on the same on the
same day, and we are still well and truly in

(08:56):
the fight, you know, eighteen competition points, well and truly
in the top eight. And as you mentioned, you touched
on SOUS all we need rappers. You know, you have
a great Fortnite, you go straight up the ladder. Unfortunately,
if you're bad Fortnite, you fall down. But you can
resurrect that with a good Fortnite and mate the camera,
blood in the air. We can make it happen on Sunday.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
Maybe what's in what's in every team's favor to at
the moment is how close the competition is. So ye know,
it's we need to start winning games, and we need
to start winning them now. Fortunate for us, there's a
lot of teams all on the same points, if not
too ahead or two behind. So you know, if we
can strengthen wins together, we can really do some damage

(09:36):
coming into the back end of the season.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
Absolutely, And you mentioned on SOUS making their way up
Jackie Leg's mate playing some good footy.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
Yeah, yeah, I spoke to him last night actually after
the win. He absolutely killed at Mann's. Yeah, I think
it's the best best move they did sels moving Jack
to five eight closer to the ball and moving Cody
to half back.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
So uh yeah, they're a good.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
Team and I'm looking forward to playing against me old
mate hopefully in a few weeks.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
Yeah, that's gonna that's coming up. It's kind of up
too quick actually, But yourself positional wise at fullback there
back on the wing last week, are these conversations you
have we stick early on or how does it work
out whether you're playing fullback or wing.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
Well, I pretty much ended up playing from round one fullback.
I you know, we were very I guess limited in
pre season with our fullbacks. We've obviously got Chevy.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
Who was you know, sorry, who was very still very young.
He just turned nineteen today.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
So you know, there was really only me and Chevy
that were you know, Xavier kind of doubled there and
but I think he's found a home on the wings
and he's a lot more explosive there, and you know,
just during the preseason time, I was just kind of
me and Chevy sharing that that that fullback role. And

(11:04):
I'm always as much as I'd love to just stay
on the wing, I enjoy it there. Especially at thirty
four almost thirty five fullbacks are as. As you know,
it's one of the toughest and hardest positions. But you know,
I had a full pre season under my belt. I
felt fit, dropped some weight, and yeah, I just was
I was going good there and there in the pre

(11:25):
in the preseason, so I think with my experience as well,
it's probably what got me across the line. And then yeah,
I guess you know, the majority of the season, well,
we were winning games and I was playing well, so
I think Sticky just persevered with it. And then obviously
we're just losing Jamal. It's a big loss, and we
didn't really have a half so Kyo kind of even

(11:47):
though Kaye is a fullback and he was chucked in
the deep end there and he got me stranger and
Kayle and the spine and you know those realistic you know,
if you look at it, it's three, especially me and
kay we're kind of two guys playing out of position.
So I think struggled a little bit as much as
we tried our butts off. But I think Cookie bringing

(12:08):
Cookie in, who's a specialist half back and directs around,
and then obviously prepping Kaye at fullback for when when
Jamal returns I think it was such a great idea
and I think Sticky could see too that and playing
eighteen sixteen seventy rounds at full back for thirty five

(12:28):
year old was playing a toll on my body, so
I was I was stoked for him when he when
he asked, you know, when he when he tossed up
me going back to the wing. I actually said to him,
thought you'd never ask. But you know, it's one of
them positions to fullback. I just love being involved in
the game, like you touched on, I'm a competitor and.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
Anywhere where you know, I can get closer to the ball,
I love.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
But at the same time too, I love being on
the wing, and you know that's that's my own position,
and hopefully I can make a really I played on
the left on the weekend with Hopper, and I felt
like we had a really good combination going there, so
hopefully we can.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Keep that going.

Speaker 3 (13:11):
But I think what's most important too is our defense,
and I think having me out there on experience when
or in position, I think made a big difference in
our defense.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
Being calm in those decision making, not bolting out of
the lot. But I think without embarrassing. I think a
lot of the value you bring. Obviously you bring a
lot of value and all the different attributes defensively in
your attack and the way you just attack the ball
and want to be involved. But I think just your
presence because you're an older guy or a big brother
to the guy, big brother figure. Just having your energy
and your presence and your chat. You can still do

(13:41):
that from the wing.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
Yeah, yeah, big time, big time.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
Couldn't agree more excellent mate. I saw you last night
at this big launch that were there at the in
Camera at the Wonder in the city of course, Windro
in the city there at Glee Park. We had a
good fund on the snow. You've been now a born
adopted Canberra in the last decade. You have a young family. Now,
how good is it to see that there's stuff around
town in our Canberra to to have, you know, for family,

(14:09):
for the kids, especially coming into school holidays.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
Yeah, it's awesome mate, It's you know, the one thing
I've learned about Canberra is you know, obviously it gets
down to minus three fours fives some days, but there's
just never any snow. So to finally have some snow
in the nation's capital. I got to go bob sledding
and ice skating and whatnot. Was that's an awesome idea

(14:33):
and the kids absolutely loved it.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
But I saw you down the bob sled mates are
handling the snow very well.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
Yeah, the bob slift is good.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
Jumped on the toboggans with the kids. Yea, it was good,
good fun.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
It's a great chime for the for the kids, isn't it.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
Yeah? It is.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
Can you hang aroundreck and you hang around post career?

Speaker 2 (14:51):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (14:51):
Yeah, I mean you've got a few more years left.
I still reckon. You've got a couple more years left,
and yeah, you're definitely hanging around in camber you reckon afterwards?

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Yeah, for sure, I am. You know, well, my wife's
from here.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
And we absolutely love it and got our family home
here and we love it. We live down and far
down south side and absolutely love Canber And uh, you know,
hopefully I can keep going again and you know, just
whether the body holds up. But if it's not to be,
then eventually when I do hang the boots up and retire,

(15:24):
I'll definitely be back here in Canber and living it
up in the nation's capital.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
You could go to your forty wraps.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Yeah, we'll see other. We'll see other.

Speaker 3 (15:34):
Body holds up, mate, It's only at my age, you know,
As you know, it's one injury away from from retirement.
So fingers crossed I get a bit of luck and
stay injury free.

Speaker 2 (15:45):
But more importantly, as long as we just keep winning.
You know.

Speaker 3 (15:47):
As much as I want to have a good season
so I can get resigned, I also.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Want to win.

Speaker 3 (15:51):
And my goal has always been to win a cop
with the with the Green machine, so you know that's
my goal.

Speaker 1 (15:58):
Well, the way you were zipping around on that slow
last night, I think you're you're you're a good half
a decade away of your body breaking down and again
without embarrassing your wraps. I think Campber love having you,
and Ricky loves you to death. And keep kicking on, mate,
and I'll see you out in that snow again, and
keep playing that guitar like you've been jamming much.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
No, not really, missus, shut up.

Speaker 3 (16:19):
I fiddled around here and there, but if anything, it's
a toy for the kids.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
Now we've got to hear some of that rap of reggae. Mate,
all right, raps, good luck for the match. Against the
Knights and we'll choose home for the for the.

Speaker 3 (16:31):
Double mate, no worries, thanks for rating to see your mate,
so your wraps.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
Good on your brother.
