How some clients asking for discounts or free services really minimizes the education and energy that professionals invest in their career.
It can really hurt someone's self worth and depreciate the hard work it takes to become a professional or a healer when someone expects or demands a discount. Sometimes someone is struggling financially and asking for a discount is their way of getting their needs met. However, there are ethical ways to ask someone for help when you are financially struggling. You can offer trades, you can ask if they have sliding scale or payment plans.
In a world where we have such a wealth of free information, asking someone who is requesting a payment for their time and energy can really reflect how greedy or entitled someone feels they are.
This is an open discussion with other professionals about how much it really hurts us professionals when someone doesn't value our time.
