Hey Mamas,
Nobody likes to feel out of control of their own life. We generally avoid things that make us feel incompetent or scared, or that push us too far outside of our COMFORT ZONES…….and I’d say having a baby or raising a child does a pretty good job at all of those things!
In the first segment, you’ll hear from Heather Ratych - a registered social worker and psychotherapist who specializes in perinatal and maternal mental health. She is the owner and clinical director of Bloom Psychotherapy in Toronto, Canada - a virtual clinic that offers individual and couples counselling, with a strong focus on the fertility, pregnancy, postpartum and parenting phases of life. Don’t miss her description of anxiety and a checklist of symptoms to watch out for, as well as some strategies to implement if you find yourself exhibiting any of these symptoms!
My guest on the podcast today is Kate Rhodes - she’s mom to a sassy and hilarious toddler, and is a budding entrepreneur in her new business, SimpliKate. I’ve followed her journey through motherhood on Instagram, where she has always been one to KEEP THINGS REAL. Kate and I were meant to discuss the specific topic of motherhood anxiety, which is something that she experienced STRONGLY in the first 18 months of her daughter’s life…..but our conversation morphed into the broader struggle of managing our own expectations as mothers (as well as the expectations society places on us), and dealing with feelings of helplessness when things are outside of our control.

Are You A Charlotte?
In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
