Over the years, especially here in Iowa, the turkey population has seen some major fluctuations. Part of that has to do with the amount of habitat that is being removed, but another major issue is predators, mainly raccoons. The increased population in raccoons means that more turkey nests are getting raided and the amount of turkey poults massively decrease. Along with the increase in raccoon numbers, we have seen a major increase in the number of bobcats. With the prices of furs being down across the country, the trapping season is become tougher for hunter who want to help manage their properties. So the question is, is there anyway to be able to see a major impact in the trapping industry? On this episode of the Raised Hunting Podcast we discuss how predator control has been affecting not only our turkey population, but populations of large game across the country over the years.
