I recently watched a documentary called Not Just A Name directed by Student Academy Award Winner De'Onna Young-Stephens. It explores the stigma and racial bias experienced by African- Americans with unique names, as well as the historical origin of these names in America. Watching this documentary sparked memories that I thought I had forgotten in regard to my own name. As I remember these experiences, I realize that me embracing and understanding the significance of my name, allowed me to be comfortable giving my girls their beautiful names. I will teach them early that LaReine and Sirène are not just names, but so much more. Tune in to hear how and why the girls were named LaReine and Sirène.Not Just A NameDirected by: De'Onna Young-Stephens--- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/raisingnoiretwins/messageSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/raisingnoiretwins/support
