Cathy (00:05):
Today's episode we'll be talking about the Shoe Game
/mNewlywed Game. Coming up next.

Crystal (00:24):
Thanks for joining us again for another Rant and
Resolve episode. I'm so excitedto talk about our topic this
week, which is going to be theShoe Game versus the Newlywed
Game. But first, Cathy, whathave you been up to this week?

Cathy (00:40):
Nothing.

Crystal (00:42):
Absolutely nothing?

Cathy (00:45):
Absolutely nothing.
Nothing but work.

Crystal (00:48):
Wow. Well, I have been very blessed because my birthday
is in July, and my mom isamazing, and she wanted to buy
me a birthday present. So forthe year of 2022. Hopefully we
don't have a pandemic issue, andwe get to go on a cruise.

Cathy (01:10):
Not, this July next, July's birthday.

Crystal (01:12):
Absolutely. And the one thing I asked her when she
wanted to get this cruise wasmom, if we are still in a
pandemic, can you get yourrefund back? She said yes. And I
said, well, as long as you canget your refund back I'm in. So
I can't complain about having afree cruise. Hopefully it'll be
safe at that time. We alwayswant to encourage everybody to

(01:34):
be safe. until now, until then, and hopefully we are going to be
in a better world and we'regoing to be awesome by that
point.

Cathy (01:42):
Well, I'm gonna say that has about planning ahead.

Crystal (01:45):
Absolutely. I mean, like if she wants to buy me a
cruise, what girl can complain, you know, it's a wonderful
birthday gift. I just want tomake sure myself and my family
stay safe, and as long as shecan get her refund back. I told
her if we are still in apandemic. I'm gonna have to bail
out but other than that, I'mlooking forward to it.

Cathy (02:05):
Okay, so I got a joke for you.

Crystal (02:08):
Okay, I'm all in.

Cathy (02:11):
What does the pepper do when it gets angry?

Crystal (02:16):
fires up,

Cathy (02:17):
It gets Jalepeno face.

Crystal (02:24):
What? LOL

Cathy (02:32):
How about this? What do you call cheese that isn't
yours? nacho cheese.

Crystal (02:43):
Nacho cheese. Oh my gosh, I can't even with you.
All right. So let's get into it.
The Shoe Game / Newlywed Game.
So I'm excited to get into thisnew rant. So let me explain to
you about the shoe game in thewedding industry. So you have a

(03:05):
couple they sit back to back andeach one takes their shoes off
and hands one shoe to the bride, and the bride hands one shoe to
the groom. They are asked aseries of questions and they
raise the shoe up based on whoit belongs to. So if I were to

(03:25):
say, Hey, who's the best driver, the groom would raise up a shoe
that would say the bride is, soit'd be her shoe. Or vice versa.
The bride would raise up a shoethat would be his shoe. It has
been a rant a lot in the weddingindustry. I have had the
privilege of working withseveral DJs and Cathy, I know

(03:49):
you can chime in on this becausewe've worked together a lot in
the industry and nobody wants tosee a dirty shoe raised up in
the air especially right beforelunchtime.

Cathy (03:59):
They bought things like nice fancy brand new shoes. Some
brides buy like these laced upshoes and nobody wants to take
them off.

Crystal (04:08):
Exactly as a wedding planner. I'm thinking, Man, that
girl's been in them hills allday long, her feet are swollen,
you're never going to get thosehills back on. It's just not
going to happen. I don't carewhat size you are. If you can be
the tiniest girl, your feet aregoing to swell and them hills.
Taking them off and trying toput them back on. Never a good

(04:29):
call. It also looks extremelyclumsy. What I have recommended
to a lot of our weddingprofessionals and a lot of them
understand this is the NewlywedGame. So I was at this wedding
and I worked with this quote, unquote amazing DJ and I think
he was definitely from the 80s.

Cathy (04:53):
He was probably a rocking DJ in the 80s

Crystal (04:55):
He definitely had the mullet going on. He knew every
line dance good on him. And heseemed to love the ladies. But
let's move forward with hisprops. He had brought out a man,
teddy bear and a girl teddy bearone had a bright little vail on

(05:18):
it, and the other one had alittle like bow tie on it. That
would have been really cute as abrand new item to give to my
child. But when you know thathas been passed around with God
knows how many weddings not acool thing. And you know, I've

(05:38):
actually had a bride that'sscared of teddy bears. It's a
whole different story. wholedifferent topic. But don't
assume that your couples aregoing to be wanting teddy bears
that are bacterialy infected andhave been passed around and
probably not washed. Justsaying. I've also had a DJ who

(05:58):
has pulled out from the 90sBarbie dolls. Barbie dolls. Not
every bride is fit like a Barbiedoll. And it's kind of an insult
that she's holding up thislittle Barbie doll. Don't assume
this that your bride is a Barbiedoll. .

Cathy (06:18):
I can see DJs you know they all got props. We all have
a prop bag right? What can webring out at an event but not at
a wedding.

Crystal (06:27):
You just don't

Cathy (06:28):
Maybe a kid event or some other fun event. Not at a
wedding.

Crystal (06:33):
Yeah, I mean, our brides are beautiful and every
aspect and you cannot assumethat they're a teddy bear lover
or they appear to be like Barbiedoll style. We just don't need
to be using those props. Guys.
ladies that are your DJs pleasedo not ask 20 questions. Keep it

(06:53):
down to five or six. And Cathy, you are amazing because you were
able to inter twine like somereally cool music mix. Keep it
upbeat, keep it short andsimple. And the audience loved
it. The bride and groom are soready to get back to their
drinks and go on and eat and doall kinds of cool things.
Because they're exhausted, they've been taking pictures and

(07:14):
all these kinds of things. Andat the end of the day, they do
not want to sit there in a chairwith everybody staring at them
for 20 questions. This is not aJeopardy show. It's meant to be
fun.
It's meant to be quick and fun.
In fact, that's probably my samerant with that. And when I first
started to become a DJ, I wantedto see what was going on because

(07:35):
you have your club DJ who issupposed to be the center of
attention. Rah rah, look at me.
I'm rocking the house.
Everybody's dancing all nighttill 2am I'm the DJ, I'm want to
be Calvin Harris or whatever.
But then you've got a wedding DJand at a wedding DJs you're not

(07:56):
Calvin Harris. It's not yourday. It's not a club. It's their
day. I do agree with you. And Ithink the resolve and I think we
resolve this on our own. But ofcourse, I'd love to hear what
other DJs use as props. I thinkit's a great topic. I think
everybody gets creative. That'sthe idea. You're supposed to

(08:18):
stand out, make people want tocall you back do their wedding.
They had so much fun at thatwedding, they want you to do
yours. What we did was we wentto a Newlywed Game style. And in
that Newlywed Game style, whatwe decide and crystal actually
came up with this and I thoughtthis was brilliant. The idea was
to get a napkin, being awedding planner, you were always

(08:41):
around the linens, you alwayswere able to put aside two
colors of linens just twodifferent colors. So they were
just kind of holding up theirnapkins, which was cool. That
made it more fun because youwould explain the game they
would say okay, raise thisnapkin or this napkin versus the
shoe or the teddy bear or theBarbie doll. So it made it a

(09:01):
little bit more classy whenyou're at a wedding, of course,
depends on your kind of wedding, but that's the ecommendation. So
that was a great idea. The otherthing is, is yes, the questions.
Oh my gosh, I've been toweddings and I've seen these
guys. It's like you're there andin the center of the floor and
the bride and groom are justsitting there. And it's supposed

(09:22):
to be engaging for the audience, the guest to enjoy the questions
and you're going down 20 to 30question sheet. I get it that
you can google shoe game orNewlywed Game questions but it
doesn't mean you have to readall of them. Okay, so I'm going
to recommend five to sevenquestions and keep it under the

(09:45):
10 Minute. By that time they'vealready been drinking they're
getting ready to dance, theywant to be up, toasts are about
to happen. You want to keep thewedding going you know make it
fun. Think pop quiz, not this isthe S.A.T. Okay?
That's a good analogy, Cathy,It's not the DJ show, the guest
didn't come to see you. TheyI want to give a shout out

(10:10):
though to all of my amazing DJscame to see the bride and groom.
So you really want to make it aday to remember , you want to
make their friends and theirfamily laugh and enjoy. Enjoy
the game. Keep it quick, short, simple, because all those things
are leading up to toasts andcake and then dancing. And then
everybody's just ready to havefun. And I liked what we did

(10:31):
when we did ours. We would playlike little clips, but it was
great because it was me and you, so you could be on the
microphone out there asking thequestions . .Then I could play
the clips. But there's nothingwrong with having that couple
sit back to back. You don't haveto be standing over them. You
could be at your microphone, asking the questions. easily get

(10:51):
the chair set up, get thosequestions answered. Do a little
bit of sound bites, they get itwrong. or they get it right, ma
e it fun. Hey, and to all youew DJs joining the wedding wor
d. Remember it is a differthat I've had the privilege of
working with you guys arent environment than the club wor
d. So do your research, do yur homework and being a wed

(11:12):
ing DJ is fun. It's excting. It's unique, lots of sto
s and starts. So learn your crat become really good at it and
you will be playing weddings allthe time and making really goo
money. But the bottom line onhis rant and resolve is rea
ly to make it classy. It's a weding. Make it quick, make it sim

(11:33):
