(00:55):
our latest regular season episode.
Welcome back everyone to the latest episode of the pod.
I'm your host, Alex Murphy with me.
The boys are back. The three Amigos.
We are together once again, me, Evan Lynch and Gibby.
How are we doing, boys? Doing pretty good.
Alex doing pretty good, althoughseries lost for the Rays.
(01:17):
Not fun. Not fun at Fenway, so that's all
that's on my mind right now, butother than that, pretty good
get. Getting ready for the weekend.
Yeah, the Rays race series was really disappointed, but a lot,
a lot of good, a lot of good sporting events this weekend.
You got the US Open going on right now.
(01:38):
The Rays head to New York and and the College World Series
begins tomorrow, so. Yes.
A lot of things to look forward to.
Yes, there is a lot to look forward to.
Is actually a great segue into talking about the College World
Series because a number of Rays players have played for the
teams that are in the College ofSeries.
If you guys haven't seen who thefinal eight teams are, a little
(02:00):
bit of an interesting bracket this year and I think that
that's going to make for a lot of fun.
So we got Coastal Carolina, Arizona, Oregon State,
Louisville, UUCLA, Arkansas, LSU, and for the first time
ever, Murray State. So very interesting bracket.
Only two SEC teams, which is great the least The less SEC
(02:21):
teams the better because. Absolutely.
Spreads out the rest of the goodness for for the, you know,
the rest of the country. But yeah, so we have two, I
guess two former PAC 12 schools,2 mid majors.
We got actually three former PAC12 schools, I should say.
So the PAC 12 technically has the most teams that are in it.
(02:44):
And then we have, you know, ACC,two SEC teams, plenty of fun
things to experience there. But I did, I've been literally
as we were starting this, I was trying to look to see what guys,
if any, have played formerly played for the Rays or are
currently playing for the Rays that are part of any of the
(03:06):
teams that are in this College World Series.
The one, the current player, thelone current player that I could
find is Drew Rasmussen, who played for Oregon State.
A proud Beaver amongst Cobies, yes.
Not so Among some guys who used or used to be on the Rays who
were who had played at some of these other schools.
(03:28):
We have Johnny Field. He didn't really play for the
race for that long, but he went to Arizona.
I already mentioned it previously, but Taylor Mater
went to Coleson. Carolina was famously on the
Rays when Coastal won the College World Series back in
2016. Brendan McKay went to
Louisville. That didn't work out as I'm sure
we all know and are not really enjoying talking about what it
(03:51):
is, what it is. Arkansas has got a couple of
guys. We've got Eric Henski, we have
we're at Ryan Stanek, Jalen Beaks, Colin Poche, the one of
those guys not really the biggest fan of, but you know, it
is what it is. They're still, they're still
proud alums of those schools, sothey deserve all the credit.
Colin Poche, that's my guy, yeah.
(04:12):
That's Evan I. Forgot about that.
I honestly forgot about that guy.
I what? What's he up to?
You know what? That's he got.
He got dropped by the Nats cuz he really didn't have a good
start to the season. I actually talked with him.
I talked with him on opening day.
It was more about Ray's stuff than it was about anything else.
But he gave me some good insightas to just how everything was
(04:34):
going when the hurricane happened and, and his thoughts
about seeing it and all that. Because he was still on the Rays
for like a month after that happened.
And then he ended up getting signed by the Nationals, I
believe that's how it was. So yeah, he he gave some
interesting perspective on I think is it Mikey Matuk?
(04:56):
He was on the Rays for a little bit.
Yeah, yeah, he was on the Rays for two years.
He went to LSU. I'm literally looking through LS
us thing right now to see if I'mmissing anyone.
And if I am missing anyone, please let me know because I'm
probably screwing something up. But yeah, I mean a very I'm
trying to robust amount of guys who have played on the Rays.
(05:18):
And then again, the Rays are a young team.
So to see that many guys alreadywho have played on the Rays at
some point and are now or yeah played, played on the Rays at
some point and their teams representing college rotaries, I
think that's pretty cool. Do you guys have anyone who you
are rooting for? Not LSU say that.
(05:38):
Wow. LSU.
Straight. Shots.
I kind of want to root for one of the non power conference
teams, either Murray State or Coastal Carolina.
I know Coastal Carolina. They always seem to do do good
around this time of year but just not quite make it.
So this would be nice for them for sure if they could win.
(06:00):
So one of those two. I like it, Evan.
Yeah. I mean, Murray State is an
unbelievable story, I think. I I mean I could be totally
wrong about this but I if I remember correctly they're the
4th 4th seed ever to make it to the Super regional or something
crazy like that like. Yeah, they're not that there's,
Yeah, I it was, I think it was like they're like the 5th or
(06:20):
6th, 4th seed to make Omaha because like, like Stony Brook
was in it. What what's it called?
Fresno State when they won the College World Series back in
2008 was in it. Oral Roberts was in it or Oral
Roberts was part of it. So they're like the fourth of
the fifth team that was a four seed in the regional to have
made it all the way to the College World Series.
(06:41):
Yeah, and it's, and it, it's kind of cool that they got like
the match up with Duke. So like they would have been
kind of an upset team in the College World Series regardless
of who won. Obviously Murray State is a
bigger kind of underdog than Duke is, but I, I, I cheer for
them. Probably Oregon State, like my
grandma, I guess went to Oregon State.
(07:01):
So that's kind of my only connection in between any of
these any of these schools. Yeah, I'd prefer neither the SEC
teams and. Which bargain on the SEC.
You know, sometimes enough is enough.
No, well, I just. Jake, Jake would hate us saying
(07:22):
that because we all know Jake, Jake is a, you know, Mississippi
State guy. He's.
That's true. I've just always been a Big 10
guy, obviously growing. Big 10, are you rooting for?
Noted Big 10 powerhouse UCLA. Yeah, cheer for Yeah, why not?
My favorite long time. I'll cheer for the winner.
I'll cheer for the winner of that round, Murray State and
(07:43):
UCLA, whoever wins that round. Well, looking at the so looking
at the bracket, the eight teams that are in it, only three of
them haven't won a natty. So Arkansas's never won a natty,
which is surprising. They were one foul pop up away
from a natty and then the triangle of doom happened and no
one caught the ball. And then they lost to Oregon
State. Louisville came in third in
(08:07):
2019. And then Murray State's never
been. So that's, you know, by default
they've never won a national championship, but every other
team has. So Coastal's got 1, Arizona's
got 4, Oregon State's got three,UCL as got one, and LSU has
seven. Last one coming when Paul
schemes. And oh wait, I forgot to mention
Trey Morgan, friend of the podcast.
(08:30):
Literal, literal national champion.
I mean, look, I mean that he wasfilthy.
Trey Morgan, Dylan Cruz, Paul Skeens.
That that's just disgusting fromyou, Alex.
Just, I'm so sorry. Why am I the one who's being
dogged for you guys? I don't know.
I'm giving you, I'm giving you ahard time.
Yeah, it does. Busting your balls.
(08:51):
Yeah, yeah. So shout out to I mean, for
Trey's sake, I will hope that you that that LSU does well.
For my sake I would like a mid major to win because I think
it's cooler when you have. Stories like that, yeah.
And and Oregon State, I don't know that like I've always felt
bad for them just because I feellike them in Washington.
They've they've got shafted so. They got screwed by the PAC 12.
(09:14):
They got screwed by I mean, I, Iget that they didn't.
I'm surprised that they could get into the Big 10 just
because, I mean, I mean, I guessRutgers has a decent like they
have the New York market, but still like as an actual school,
I feel like they're big enough to be in the Big 10.
And I just, yeah, I feel bad fortheir fans.
And yeah, and the Beavers is great.
(09:37):
It's great mascot. It's a very unique mascot, which
is good, like like Deshante Clears unique mascot, the Racers
unique mascot. Some of them are just like the
Wildcats. Tigers.
Yeah, Wildcats Tigers. Razorbacks is sweet though.
They're they're branding. Arkansas's branding is awesome.
I agree with that. I agree with that.
They're low is really cool. Well, yeah, the College World
(09:59):
Series starts tomorrow and I'll be releasing this tomorrow, so
it starts Friday, which is as ofwhen we're going to be actually
putting this recording out. So hope everyone tunes in to to
what's going to happen in Omaha.I don't know how many people
tune into what happened with theRays this week in Boston, but
yeah, they play baseball. They kind of we're OK.
(10:22):
I don't know. Thoughts.
Fell a little short. Fell a little short.
Yeah. It's that it's that damn Fenway.
You know, I just once again we lose, we lose to Fenway just
because there's so many of thosewall double s and Oh my God, the
the way baseball is played thereis absolutely insane.
People yell about our stadium, you know, our current stadium.
(10:43):
I. Was going to say our lack of
stadium, but yeah, yeah, yeah. So for those that didn't see,
the Rays lost two out of three against the Red Sox, won the
first game, which was that game was stupid, like every part of
that game was. Oh yeah, that was so.
Stupid. Now, I don't know if that
(11:03):
screwed them up because again, remember coming into the series,
the Rays bullpen was depleted. You saw that over the course of
the series that Mason Angler gotcalled up, Ian Seymour got
called up, got his first Major League win in his first outing,
which was cool. Ended up pitching 2 innings in
relief in in extras for the Rays.
(11:25):
But like the bullpen did not look sharp.
Starting pitching didn't look incredible.
There were definitely some some bright spots, but overall it
wasn't like an Oh my God thing. And then the offense struggled
against guys that honestly are not at their peak.
Like Lucas Giolito is not a guy who's at his peak right now.
(11:47):
Walker Buehler is not is past his.
I mean, I could be dead wrong insaying that, but like 2 guys
that probably are past their prime at this point.
And the Rays really couldn't find a way to, to get to them
and get runs and get production. And it just felt like a series
where there was a lot on the table and they just couldn't,
(12:09):
you know, couldn't, couldn't contribute and couldn't convert
when they needed to. Yeah, I mean, it, it was kind of
a continuation of the Marlins series.
Like, I mean, the Marlins series, I don't think we looked
all that great either. I mean, our offense, we did kind
of just enough like mean well, literally just enough to win the
series because we won each game by one run and we didn't score
(12:30):
many in either the two wins. But I mean, Monday was just a
weird game. Like, I mean, we did almost
everything possible to lose thatgame.
I mean, I mean, props to Pete and props to Ian for I mean,
after after the insanely lucky infield single to tie it in the
bottom of the ninth and then theair by Aranda in the bottom of
the tenth to kind of rebound, get the third out and get out of
(12:53):
there. So it I mean, Monday was a very
satisfying win. Obviously Ian Seymour was the
huge story, at least on the racethat side.
Obviously Roman Anthony making his debut that day was the major
story in baseball, but he'd say more kind of coming in to out.
I guess it's a win, but it was also a save.
So I don't know what. I guess it was technically a win
(13:16):
in a ballpark he used to go to as a kid, which is just it's a
great story. It's a great story.
That story in itself was awesome.
And he look, he, I mean, did he did his job offense that the
offense that day, I will say wasawesome.
We had a response for every one of their rallies.
I think we were up 3 twice in that game.
(13:37):
They tied at both times and our offense was able to just rebound
and kind of get some composure. Also junior with one of the best
at bats all season. That was those were two of the
best takes I think I've ever seen him take.
I hell of a job by the umpire tocall it and not.
He deserved to pimp that walk like it.
Because they were two balls too.And I'm glad that they called it
(13:59):
correctly because he deserved that.
So and then you're right. The next two games, I think you
had to win one of them, Giolito and and Bueller.
I mean, Bueller was coming off the story.
He got rocked against. I get I get it's the Yankees,
but still like they have not been good.
And against Giolito, we couldn'tdo anything.
We had a lot of hard hit balls like we, I feel like Tuesday's
(14:22):
game was just kind of unlucky, like we had a billion hard bit
hard hit balls. I feel like we had three balls
to the warning track. I mean, Morrell hit AI mean he
destroyed that ball right to centre.
Obviously it was caught. He continues to get screwed over
by field dimensions, by the way.Yeah, it's he is.
He's getting unlucky. I understand he's not playing
(14:44):
great but like you should probably have like 6 or 7 homers
at this point. Yeah, probably more.
More than that, because what, hehad what, like four or five
coming into the series and he probably missed a couple from
wind and crap like. That there's, yeah, there's so
many that he missed at Steinbrenner just from that
wind. But like, yeah, it was just it
(15:05):
was not a very satisfying rest the series it was.
It was really weird from the starting pitching.
Like I mean Pepio almost gettingthrough 6 yesterday was
unbelievable. Yeah, after throwing 30 pitches
in the first inning. Yeah, and he he was an out of
way from getting from getting through six.
Another quote. It would have been, I think a
seventh straight quality start. Yeah.
So just kind of I, I think just the best word to describe it is
(15:28):
just as gritty. Same kind of thing with
Lattelle. He didn't look as good.
But I mean, given up four solo bombs.
It's just an insanely weird likeI mean, two of them let off the
inning, so I get that. But like just really weird.
I don't know, just a weird series.
And it's annoying that they've beaten, they've beaten us twice
now in the rubber match and it seems like they get a billion
(15:51):
lucky hits. Like I mean the Rafaela had like
at least 4 lucky. I mean the check swing bunt in
the game yesterday or the checks.
There was the check swing doublein the game yesterday.
It's like, I don't know, they seem to find every hole.
Just a frustrating series, but. Oh yeah.
Well, I mean, Gibby, Gibby, before you start, I do.
(16:14):
I'm, we, we need to look up like, what's it called Latela's
leading league in homers? I have no clue how many of them
are solo homers because it feelslike at like the majority of
them have to be solo homers, right?
Because like he, he hasn't really gotten burned by the long
ball this year. Yeah, it's not like and he's his
ERA hasn't blown up at all or anything.
(16:36):
So it's like, yeah, they must bejust a bunch of solo home runs.
I mean, that that makes sense, though.
He does prevent a lot of guys from getting on base, but he is
going to give give up the occasional home run.
So I mean, at least he's limiting the damage there.
But yeah, like I said, yeah, 4, four solo home runs that game.
And the thing about Tuesday is that you had, you know, Pepeo
(17:00):
did so great, although he allowed three runs, which, I
mean, still gives you a chance to win the game.
And then Macy. Defense was terrible too.
Yeah, decent defense was pretty terrible.
Engler takes it the rest of the way.
So you have after Monday, a pretty rested bullpen the next
day. And I mean, the bullpen does
give you something. I mean, Ortsey was good, Mason
(17:21):
Montgomery was good that in the last day of the series, but just
wasn't enough to kind of come back here, especially with some
of the quiet bats. Junior really quiet this series,
so quiet and we usually play. We usually win when he's loud or
even even when he like remotely contributes to the game, like on
(17:44):
Monday. Eli play quiet too.
His one hit on Monday kind of helped us get there, but who
went pretty quiet. Eli.
Oh yeah, Eli. Like, like way quieter than I
thought he would because I thought he would hit at least
one Homer. He didn't hit anything.
Yeah, yeah. So frustrating from the offense
honestly. Yeah, I have the stat.
(18:05):
According to who is you guys? You probably know how to
pronounce his last name. He hosts 6020 AM.
Tom presents key. I don't.
Know are you? Are you talking about T crash?
Tom Crash. Yeah.
He he said that 17 of the 21 home runs that Lattell has given
up have been solos this year. Yeah, I mean, because I was
(18:26):
looking at it just crazy. Yeah, that's why.
I mean, when you look at this, when you look at the stats for
him this season, in the runs that he's given up, he has he's
given up 21 homers, which is 1 away from how many homers that
he gave up last season in 70 less innings, which is not
great, but he's only given up 37runs.
So like if you were to average out the home runs, like if you
(18:51):
were to divide the number of runs that he's given up per the
this season by the number of home runs that he's allowed that
the the average is 1, like it was like 1.75 runs per home run.
So like on that surface, that means that like the home runs
that he was giving up aren't that valuable, which is crazy
because like, I mean, I'm not saying that giving up home runs
(19:15):
is a good thing. But when 17 of the 21, which is
percentage wise, 81% of the homeruns that you've allowed this
season have been solo homers, then that's essentially treated
the same way as like an RBI single or an RBI double.
So it it, it looks a lot worse on the surface than what it
actually is, which is even more remarkable as you were
(19:36):
mentioning earlier, Evan. Yeah, and I mean, like the old
adage of like, you're not going to get killed by solo home runs.
I think it's like, that is true. But you can't give up four of
them, especially two of them, toa like a rookie Meyer.
The Heat, those weren't like cheapy homers.
Like he served. He served up a meatball and
(19:58):
Meyer murdered those baseballs. And and they were all to lefties
too. So I mean something about the
there's that match of factor there.
But just really frustrating, just a frustrating way to lose
that series just because going into the off day today, we were
able to salvage the bullpen in the last two games.
Like we weren't we didn't have to use Kelly, who said a
(20:21):
Fairbanks Clevenger. Obviously Manuel, what is on the
IL now, but like. It's not real.
We were able to get some additional rest, but you want to
like we should have won that series that that's a series you
need to win, especially what's what who we're facing this
weekend where I mean it, it all goes if we win this series
against the Mets, which I don't think is going to happen, but if
(20:43):
we do, then it's. A whole different outlook, yeah.
The the three and three road trip, that's all that's I think
we were talking about that with Jake on Sunday or Monday.
I forget when we did it, but that's what we're asking for and
it's a totally different outlookif we do that.
Yeah, I mean, yeah, I completelyagree with you.
It's a like going into the Mets series since, you know, seems
(21:04):
like a good transition. But yeah, the Mets are 16 and
four in their last 20 games. They just beat The Who is it the
Nationals today in four, three. I think the Nationals hadn't
scored a run in like 20 innings or something like that before
they scored a run today. I would need to go back and
check that, and I probably should check that 'cause I talk
about the Mets way more than I Ishould.
(21:25):
Yeah. I mean, they, they, yeah, they
were shut out yesterday's game and then the game before that.
They didn't score, run 12345. So that's 14 innings.
And then today, 12345678, so 22 innings.
(21:45):
They were held scoreless. They scored three in the ninth,
which ended up making a difference in the end.
But I mean, like they held a team that and I, I will say the
Nationals are a much improved team from last year.
The nationals still aren't great.
They're not going to be competing for a playoff spot.
I mean, unless things go really, really well towards the end of
the year. But they held them for, you
(22:06):
know, that's basically two gamesand some change scoreless in
that series. So.
Then they they, the Nets have a,they have a decent offense too.
But no, the Mets are rolling. They're they're a damn good
squad, I think. Are they?
So they're 5 1/2 clear. The Phillies, they're, they're
definitely leading the NL 'causethey have the most wins.
(22:29):
They have the most wins in baseball right now.
They're 4545 and 24, which is also the best record in baseball
cause the Tigers are 44 and 25. In terms of records in the NL,
they are. I think that the Cubs are the
closest team and they're 3 1/2 games clear of them 'cause the
(22:50):
Cubs are 41 and 27. 3 1/2, Yeah.Yeah, yeah, I was trying to do
the math the the quick math in my head, 'cause it's every,
every game is every win is 1/2 game and every loss of half
games, that's seven. So that's three and a half.
Three and a. Half, yeah, and they're the
yeah, So they're eight and two in their last ten.
Another concerning thing. They're 27 and seven at home.
(23:10):
They're like a 500 team on the road, but they're 27 and seven
at home. They have by far the best home
record in baseball. Like the only team that's close
again is the Tigers, but the Tigers are 23 and 9 but that's
like 3 games clear of them. That's what that's why
yesterday's game was so important.
Yeah, it's going to go. I mean, like, obviously the bare
(23:33):
minimum is winning one, but likeeven going two and four on this
road trip is not. I don't that's not good enough
So but I mean, it's it'd be, I know it's a an extremely
difficult ask, but winning this series would yeah, like we said,
kind of a race the the Fenway series.
Yes, it would. Gibby, how are you feeling about
(23:56):
this series right now, knowing everything that seems to be
going on with the Mets and wherethe Rays are right now?
Yeah, I mean, the Mets are a really hot team, but I mean, we
were not too bad off. I mean, just about a week ago.
So maybe our misfortunes were just family related and we can
move on to this Mets series and kind of just consolidate from
(24:18):
there. I mean, like what you said, it's
going to be hard to win two games.
It's statistically very going tobe very hard for us to even win
one game at home, let alone 2. So it would be nice to get
those. But I'm not I'm not super
counting on it, but if the offense can have an offense like
they did just last week, you know, and bring that on the road
(24:42):
with them, that would be huge. And then bullpen, obviously you
got to go against these really tough at bats and you know these
not none of the nobody on that team is is a is a joker.
You know, you have Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, I mean, one
Soto's coming back, he's shuffling again.
(25:02):
So I mean, this offense is seemslike it's back.
There's some lols. So yeah, we got to be ready for
that for sure. And we can't have the same
sloppy defense we did kinda in some of those games in Fenway.
So. Yeah, we didn't even talk about
it about the frustrating thing in the outfield for for for
(25:26):
Papio's start. Now again, I hope y'all really
needed to be perfect there because Ray's only gave up one
run. But, and I think this just goes
to the fact that Jake's just a young, I mean, he's a young guy
in MLB experience. He's not a young guy in baseball
experience. But as the center field, you
have to call off or at least letthe right fielder, whoever it is
trying to get the ball because that there were two different
(25:48):
plays where it looked like he was the 1:00 to be able to catch
it or someone else would be ablewas the 1:00 to be able to catch
it. And it either dropped in between
him and low or dropped in between him low and Lao or
whatever it is. But like you, you can't let that
happen as the center fielder, you need to be able to you have
to be the one that controls the outfield.
(26:11):
And that was that was brutal to watch because I know that Jake's
better than that and he's shown that he, you know, over the
course of his college and and minor league career and now
Major League career. But I think that was just like a
rookie mistake of like, something slipped in his head
and it was, you know, it just didn't work out.
But like, those are the kind of things that contributed to a
(26:32):
loss against Boston, which is just brutal.
Before we go further into the Mets series, what's more
frustrating? Fenway Park dimensions or Camden
Yards? Before they changed, after they
changed the wall, before they changed the current.
Wall, Probably Camden Yards 'cause it's not.
It's 'cause you know, it would have been a home run.
(26:53):
That's the thing. Like when it's hit over there,
it's like, you know, two years ago, three years ago, that would
have been a home run. Well, Ant, Camden Yards wasn't
built 100 years ago like. No, it was built that, yeah.
That's a part of Fenway. It's just like, oh, it's really
old, like they built it a long time ago.
Cannon yards. It's there was just no, I mean,
obviously I get that left field was very short, but why did they
(27:16):
have to move it back? 800 feet.
To it was. I thought that was so stupid
but. I mean, it looks a little better
now. Still not perfect.
Still not great, but yeah, it's.They, they like, they like made
it ugly and then they made it less ugly.
But now it's like putting lipstick on a pig and it's just,
(27:38):
it's a, it's a bad look. Yeah, yeah.
It looks like there's a chunk that's like not loaded in.
That's what it looks like. The one thing I don't like about
Fenway is like the really, really, really short fences.
Like, not the fences for the bullpen, but the really, really
short fence that's like down theright field line.
Oh, yeah, 3 feet tall was made for like an infant.
(27:59):
Yeah. Like that one just frustrates me
because again, the the stadium has been built and it's and it's
existed for more than 100 years, but like, it just kind of irks
me. Yeah, it's a great stadium to go
to, but yeah, it's frustrating to watch when your team's there,
but yeah. Yeah, especially if things don't
go well, but going to the Mets series.
(28:21):
So as we mentioned, Ray's Mets, we have 7:10 PM start on Friday,
4:10 PM start on Saturday, 1:40 PM start on Sunday.
I have the pitching matchups up right now.
It's Clay Holmes against Taj Bradley.
Game one is this Tyler McGill. Yeah, yeah, Tyler Mcgill's Tyler
(28:41):
spelled incorrectly against DrewRasmussen and then Griffin
Canning against Shane Boz. And I think Canning's had a
really good season or much better season than what he's had
in previous years because he wason the Angels, and Angels are
Doo Doo. So definitely much better
pitcher now that he was on the Angels.
But thoughts about this series? Like genuinely, what do we
(29:03):
think's going to happen? I mean, I feel like it's just
good to be off offensive like completely.
We're going to see a repeat of that Monday game against the Red
Sox. I feel like we might see that
even twice. We might see extra innings twice
because I mean, both these offenses when they're going,
(29:25):
they can come in the clutch time.
So I feel like it's just going to be a really back and forth
just like that Monday game. And you know, the bolt, the
they're, they're starting pitching.
It's not the best, but I mean, they got the job done.
And I mean, we've done a lot worse against a lot worse guys.
(29:46):
So just coming out offensively ready just like they're going to
be. And I mean, I bet they're going
to blow at least one of our guysup like pretty bad, you know,
unless starting pitching can prevent that.
So just, you know, and then whenbullpen comes in, having some
clutch bowl pen innings because we are very short staffed after
(30:10):
Manuel Rodriguez, who is probably our second or third
best reliever this year, is now gone.
So. There's that massive blow to the
bullpen, massive Pro Bowl pen that's already taxed.
Yeah. Evan.
Yeah, yeah. I mean, I think, I think
Saturday's game is kind of like now, I wouldn't say it's a must
(30:31):
win obviously, because it's, I mean June baseball, but still
like if that's the game, if likewe're not going to get swept,
that's the game. I think we have to win just
because as successful as Rasmussen has been, I think
Mcgill's been, I mean, he's not been.
He, don't get me wrong, he's notbad at all.
He still has 3.7 ERA. Like, he's still a very good
pitcher, but out of the three, he's the weakest.
(30:54):
So if we're going to get to a guy, he's the guy to to do to
get to, I guess. And all three of these guys are
righties, which obviously against us helps a lot.
It didn't help against Boston just because both both the
Tuesday and Wednesday guys were righties.
But I think I think Taj with maybe one of the bigger starts
(31:16):
just of the season, just considering how poor he was
against the Marlins, he he had kind of looked like he founded.
I mean, he pitched very well against the Astros.
I think that was 2 to start to go maybe 3 even though they lost
that game. But he's kind of seemed to be
looking to. He looked like he kind of got a
stride and then he gave up like five runs or I forget what the
(31:38):
actual stats was the stats were, but he got blown up by the
Marlins on Saturday. So hopefully I'm seeing what he
does tomorrow night will be huge.
Obviously Clay Holmes has has had a heck of a season and it
it's about, I mean, winning these close games.
Like obviously the Marlins series was just kind of weird.
We won two, we did win two run, one run games.
(31:59):
But I feel like a lot of our wins recently have been in
blowout fashion and our losses have been close.
I mean, I'm checking the run differential right now.
We have the 7th best run differential in All in all of
baseball. We have the third best in the
AL, which is very frustrating because our record doesn't
reflect that. Yeah, I was going to say, it's
like definitely not indicative. So it I mean, we have like, I
(32:21):
mean rough run differential obviously doesn't like matter a
whole lot, but it is a good indicator on who is a good team
and who is not. And it's kind of annoying just
because it doesn't, we're not inthat.
Like it doesn't indicate how good we are, I guess just
because our record doesn't reflect that.
But we got, I think we got to learn how to win kind of these
close games. Obviously that's what happened
(32:42):
in ball. We did win the game on Monday,
but I feel like that game was a lot closer than it should have
been, first of all, and we just couldn't get it done in the
close games. But I think Gibby's right.
I think these games will be close.
It's a way to it's the key to itis finding a way to win these
close games. Yeah, pick a player for this
series, Evan, starting with you.Who are the guys that you have
(33:04):
pinpointed? Yeah, BB allows going yard.
I'm not going to pick him, but I'm just, that's just, I'm just.
I like your optimism. Let him know.
I mean, I just, I talked about it, Taj, Taj with, I mean, Taj,
I'd say that he has some of the most pressure on him on the
whole team just because like this has to be kind of the year
(33:26):
where he starts to develop and kind of solidify himself as a
Major League pitcher. And he hasn't really done that,
I don't think, like maybe as a Major League pitcher, but he
hasn't. We're really taking that next
step that we're hoping to see and we've seen glimpses of it.
And he's just extremely inconsistent.
So hopefully we can kind of see a little bit of that of the good
(33:47):
Taj. Yeah, and then and then and then
and then your hitter. I'll go, I'll go.
Josh Lowe, I think. I think he also struggled in
this past series. I know he had that big RBI
double in the in game one to I think put the race back ahead.
But he didn't do much yesterday.I think he was over 5.
(34:07):
He had an RBI ground out, but especially against three
righties. Hopefully he can get back in.
I mean ultimately the home, the home run category, but.
Yeah, give me. I'm a pick junior Caminero as my
hitter because usually I feel like he only hits really when
the other, all the everybody else on the team is kind of
(34:28):
already hitting. And then he kind of gets that
motivation to, you know. Put his Leave the pad.
But so I need him to be the firecracker, you know, just some
sort of lead off double what is a lead off solo bomb or or even
a basis clearing Grand Slam. So I like it.
Need need that from junior. And pitching wise, I mean, Eric
(34:52):
Ortzi, I mean, he had a he kind of got blown up for the first
time in so far this season. You got two runs and one inning
in Boston and then he kind of cleaned it up the next two games
later. So I'm going to pick him again.
He's still at a 137 ERA, which is still incredible.
(35:12):
Yeah, been very good. Which is insane when like you
get blown up for two runs in oneinning and your ERA is still
that. So yeah, great stuff from him.
I like the picks. So yeah, that'll be that'll be
mine too. I like him.
Well, yeah, I need a home route of B Lau this weekend.
My God, I need a home route of BLau.
(35:34):
I would love to see Danny Jansenhave a really good weekend.
The catching position has lookedmore stable, but still would
like to see more to Danny Jansen.
And then give me Clev because I love Clev.
I feel like I haven't picked himin a while.
But again, we need guys in this bullpen to step up as much as
possible so the guy like him canstep up, have a really good
(35:56):
weekend, continue the momentum or momentum that they need to
build. That's that's really, really key
for this team. So.
Absolutely. Come on, let's bounce back.
Let's bounce back, boys. Yeah.
Good. Yeah, We need a We need a good
weekend here. We need a good.
Weekend. Come on, A.
Lot of good sports stuff going on.
We need a good weekend here. But with that being said, that's
going to conclude things in thislatest episode of Razor Roof.
