Speaker 1 (00:04):
This is the RBR TV b R in Focus Podcast.
Here's your host, Radio and Television Business Report Editor in
Chief Adam R. Jacobson.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Hi again, and welcome to the in Focus podcast which
is presented by dot fm, streaming, social podcast or broadcast.
Get a dot fm domain name by heading over to
get to dot fm today and today we are talking
with Steve Jones, you know Steve from Skyview Networks, and
he's here to talk a little bit about the pre
cees twenty twenty five excitement, if you will, and some
(00:37):
of the things he's looking forward to at this annual event,
which is attracting more people from the radio industry than
ever before. And there are going to be gathering at
a Cocktails and Conversations VIP events on Wednesday, January eighth,
twenty twenty five. It is invitation only and at the
end of this podcast we'll give you all the details
on how you can get on the guest list. But
(00:58):
in the meantime, it's great to be speaking with you, Deef, Adam.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Always a pleasure. I hope you're doing well.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
I'm doing well, and we're looking ahead to twenty twenty five.
There's a lot of excitement and I'm wondering, well, we're
going to be starting the year with a bang at
the CEES and as we heard from Caroline Beasley, it's
more of an automotive show than ever before, and with
audio and radio in particular being so important for in
(01:23):
car access. What are you looking forward to seeing and
what are you hearing in terms of some of the
key things that this year's show that you really want
to get your eyes in yours?
Speaker 1 (01:33):
N Well. So CEES is a you know, an annual
collection of what is innovative, inspirational and often practical but
not always and you know, and by that, I mean
there are a range of environments and exhibits that you
can go to invest your time and experience. And so
(01:56):
those those range from incubators so they're they're entire areas
of ce s where there are individuals who have ideas
and small boots that they've invested in to try and
get their ideas surfaced to investors and others. And that's
always fascinating to go in and actually see concepts that
(02:17):
are being actualized, at least in a working manner, and
some of them inspire other ideas for me and my colleagues.
All the way up to you know, the massive exhibits
which are in the convention halls, which have the you know,
the the brands we all know, and as as you alluded,
(02:38):
you know, CES has evolved from really what was consumer
electronics to now just a technology event where everything from
in home to in car to on on your body
is integrated and displayed, and so specifically about cars. Last
year was or this year I should say, because it
(02:59):
was this past January worry. But in the twenty twenty
four CES there is a tremendous automotive series of displays,
and our friends at DTS Auto Stage Expire had had
a series of demonstrations of how in car dash technology
is continuing to evolve. And so that continuing effort by
(03:24):
all of us in broadcasting and radio and audio to
understand how technology is using audio in the vehicle and
displayed and married the two together is really important. I
know a lot of our a lot of our colleagues
have made investments in this space, as has Skyview, and
I'm very excited to see the next iteration of that
(03:45):
and the planning because as all of us know, automotive
has a longer cycle for planning, so often what we're
seeing is what's going to be introduced into the marketplace
both in a year or two, but also concept cars five, six,
seven years down the road.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
We hear the letters AI, and that's certainly an area
of super super hyper focused and excitement when it comes
to radio and broadcast television industry leaders as well. From
your advantage point at Skyview Networks, which is of course
steeped in audio technology AD sales in addition to the
syndication and network audio distribution that you do, I'm wondering
(04:29):
if there's anything in particular that you're looking forward to
learning more about as it pertains to AI and audio
technology as it empowers your efforts.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
So, you know, AI has been the dominant disruptive innovation
at CES, certainly in twenty twenty four and in twenty
twenty five it will be integrated into basically every product
and service. And seeing how individuals and entities are leveraging
(05:02):
it to create improvements and efficiency effectiveness of whatever their
you know, job is is incredibly important and understanding you
know what, what actually is a clever leveraging of the
technology and uh what can be perhaps replicated by us
(05:23):
in this business versus what is is simply frankly, you know,
more more hype than than substance. And that's always a
part of ce s is is differentiating what is aspirational
versus what is achievable. So for for me in the
Skyview team, it's it's going to be looking at how
(05:45):
we can be more effective and efficient using AI to
support our incredible team in producing results for advertisers, radio
affiliates and audiences.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Now, the gathering on Wednesday the eighth at the Capitol
Girl will see Skyview Networks serve as a co sponsor
alongside the Creative Ben'stown Q Beasley Media Group, Experry Enco,
and Streamline Publishing's very own Radio and Television Business Report
and Radio Inc. This gathering has been a nice place
(06:21):
for those in radio to kind of get together after
what could be an overwhelming experience going from area to
area at the CS.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
What is it that really you think encapsulates why those
in the radio industry might want to consider going to
Las Vegas, even if it's just for day, just to
kind of see for themselves the possibilities and the revenue
opportunities that might exist.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Well, I mean understanding how audio is evolving to become
the centerpiece of so many different business plans. Is is
important you have you know, podcasting an audio or taking
the center stage at CDs. So so a keynote address
at CEES from one of the audio company leaders serious
(07:13):
exam is getting huge prominence, and you know, I think
that that is good for all of us because if
further validates the important role we play in the media ecosystem.
As as an individual going you know, if you've never
been to CEES, there's an enormity to it that needs
(07:34):
to be managed in advance. So showing up and trying
to meander around CEES, it's just it's not it's not
really you can do it, but it won't be particularly effective.
I mean, the layout is such that you have the
convention center with multiple halls, but then several of the
hotels have exhibits as well. And what I was referring
(07:54):
to early on was, you know, an area of innovation
at one of the hotels, and then some of the
other hotels have specific media concentrations. So you know, just
going to see how your colleagues and competitors in the
space are using the technology to highlight their products and
services and the value proposition for their clients. That's that's
(08:16):
incredibly effective. The density of all of it right there
is important, So there's an efficiency to just being able
to in a relatively short period of time see see
all of this. And they give you things at cees also,
you can you know you can. You can walk away
with either samples of products or often they allow you
(08:37):
to purchase at a discount some of what they have
at cees if you're really enamored of something. So it's
it's a great experience. And the Cocktails and Conversation is Wednesday, January.
It's at the Capitol Grill Adam. As you mentioned, it's
by invitation only, but having having anyone who's listening to
this reach out, you can certainly email me at Steve
(08:59):
dot Jones at skybsat dot com and just reference in
the subject line you'd like an invitation and we'll get
you in. There is a limitation to the number of
people we have at this event, so there's a point
at which the opportunity to say yes ends. If there's
a way to get anyone in who's going, we'd love
(09:19):
to see you.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
Thank you so much for that opportunity for our listeners
to consider being there. And thank you mister Steve Jones,
President and CEO of sky View Networks, for taking a
little bit of time out of your day to speak
with us here at the Radio and Television Business Report.
Speaker 1 (09:34):

you at CEES. Well.
