This is Ready Set
Reiki, a podcast about Reiki and
all energy work, from thecurious beginner to the seasoned
master teacher, welcoming allsystems, all lines, and all
levels.
Reiki is a journey and not adestination.
And on this Ready Set Reikijourney, I refer to myself as a
guide.
So I'm Tracy C.
Wright, and this is Ready SetReiki.
(00:41):
Hello, Reiki family, Reikiblessings.
Welcome, one and all.
It is another journey togetherfor Ready Set Reiki.
I want to remind you to checkout the Reiki News magazine, the
fall edition.
Some amazing and wonderfularticles are in there, including
the updated information that isgoing on that was discovered by
(01:05):
Justin B.
Stein regarding Zoe Sensei'sresume.
So today, super excited.
I have wanted this guest to comeon for some time.
She's super busy.
She's amazing.
As you listen to her, herguidance, her wisdom, her
support.
Let me introduce Karen Harris.
Now she is a senior licensedReiki master teacher with the
(01:28):
International Center of ReikiTraining, ICRT.
You probably heard me mentionthis many times, co-director of
the ICRT Reiki Master TeachingTraining Program.
And she teaches all levels ofAzui Holy Fire Reiki, including
the Holy Fire Corona Reiki, orCorona Reiki, sorry.
(01:48):
And she began studying Reiki in1993 and has studied with
several ICR teachers along withseveral Japanese Reiki masters.
So let's give a warm ready-setReiki welcome to Karen Harris.
Hello.
SPEAKER_02 (02:02):
Hi.
Well, wonderful.
SPEAKER_03 (02:06):
So can't wait to
start this journey with you.
So much knowledge beginning in1993, where you started your
journey.
So tell us a little bit aboutyourself.
SPEAKER_00 (02:18):
Okay, well, I am a
uh single mom.
I have a daughter who's 31.
I adopted her from China.
And I built my dream house withReiki a couple of years ago.
So I am living at LakeWinnebago, Missouri, in a
beautiful lakefront property.
(02:40):
I teach my classes here.
I have my home office here, andthen I also have an office in
town in Kansas City, Missouri, where I see clients a couple of
days a week.
Oops, you're still muted.
SPEAKER_03 (02:58):
Very good.
So we're here to talk about theenergy, the Reiki energy.
So when did Reiki come into yourlife?
Would you say that you foundReiki or Reiki found you?
SPEAKER_00 (03:09):
Well, definitely
Reiki found me.
My younger sister was introducedto Reiki, I think back in the
early 90s, maybe late 80s, andshe was talking to me about it a
lot and saying that I shouldlearn it.
And I put her off.
You know, I was in grad school.
(03:30):
I'm also a licensed marriage andfamily therapist and a licensed
professional counselor.
However, I've retired fromseeing counseling clients for
now.
I just take everyone in as aReiki client, and I use my
counseling tools in my Reikisessions.
So anyway, she was talking to meabout it, and finally I said,
(03:51):
okay, you know, I'll I'll learnit.
And I had Reiki one with her.
It was a two-hour class.
I didn't learn a whole lot, Ididn't feel a whole lot.
I think I was a little numbafter coming out of an abusive
marriage.
So um I might not have used itother than she kept saying,
(04:11):
whenever I had a problem, well, did you try Reiki on that?
Did you try Reiki on that?
You know, and so finally acouple of years later, I
thought, well, I'll go on andtake Reiki 2.
You know, I was starting to seesome benefits from it.
And I took Reiki 2 with hermaster uh as she requested, and
(04:32):
then practiced at that level fora while, and then thought, well,
maybe I'll go on to take ReikiMaster.
But her Reiki master said, well, the fee is 10,000, um, but I'll
give you a discount.
You only have to pay 5,000, andthen the other 5,000 is gonna go
to the earth every day.
You'll have to send Reiki to theearth every day for the rest of
(04:53):
your life.
And I thought, well, that'sreally a lot of money, and I
think I'll just wait.
So then I was in a bookstore andI found William Rand's book, uh
Reiki Healing Touch, and foundout about the International
Center for Reiki Training, gotin touch with them, and met uh
(05:16):
Laurel Shanti guy I saw that shewas going to teach a class in
Kansas City.
She had used a pendulum over amap to ask where she should go
teach, and she got Kansas City.
At that point, I think she wasliving in like Louisville,
Kentucky.
So I contacted her and said, youknow, hey, I'm interested in
(05:36):
your class.
She said, Well, I'm from out oftown.
Can you find me a place to havethe class?
So I did that and then began myjourney with the International
Center and retook all my classesand applied to be a licensed
teacher.
So I've been a licensed teachersince, I don't know, around
2002.
(05:56):
Very long time.
SPEAKER_03 (05:59):
Beautiful.
And so, in addition to thoseteachers and ICRT teachers,
you've also studied with othermaster teachers.
Would you want to share aboutthose uh experiences or
something that stood out withthose uh Japanese Reiki master
teachers?
SPEAKER_00 (06:15):
Sure.
Well, in 2002, I went to Japanwith uh William Brand.
He had organized a trip and westudied with Mrs.
Yamaguchi.
She was a student of Dr.
Hayashi.
She learned Reiki when she was17 and had been practicing all
these years.
(06:35):
So she worked with her son TadaoYamaguchi, and the translator in
that class was Yakatan Inamoto, who was also one of her
students.
And he is also a Buddhist monk.
He was, you know, just verypersonable.
Um, so that was reallyinteresting.
And it was interesting to seehow in Japan they have a lot of
(07:00):
ritual, a lot of repetition.
You know, it was five uh halfdayclasses, and then we would go to
Mount Karama most of theafternoon.
So that was a real treat to getto spend time there.
And um, you know, it was just anamazing experience.
And then later that year, I wentto a uh Yusui Reiki conference
(07:24):
in Toronto where Hiroshi Doi wasteaching along with Yakata
Ninamoto.
His lineage of Reiki is calledKomio Reiki.
So I studied Reiki Master withboth of them there, and you
know, I had Reiki 1 and 2 withMrs.
Yamaguchi in Japan.
SPEAKER_03 (07:44):
Beautiful.
I love that.
So you've been doing this worksince 1993.
As you've been going along thisjourney and lots of shifting and
changing, especially with ourworld and our energy, what are
you finding or somemisconceptions about Reiki?
SPEAKER_00 (08:02):
Well, plenty of
them.
And uh last night I recorded aReiki myths podcast with uh
Munikai Mohammed, and this waspart two where we were
discussing, you know,misperceptions.
Um I mean there's so many ofthem.
I now have a list of like 29 andand and counting, but you know,
(08:28):
one of the main ones that I'vebeen countering lately is people
think that rake only workshands-on.
And you know, I have a fairnumber of clients who I work
with at a distance, but I am inthe Midwest, and so it's the
Show Me state, Missouri, and youknow, people want the the
hands-on.
(08:49):
So, you know, that's a littleharder one to get past.
And then, you know, there thenthere's the religious things
like, you know, if I'm thisreligion or that religion, you
know, maybe I shouldn't practiceReiki.
Or, you know, maybe my religiousleader is saying, you know, I
shouldn't.
Well, you know, that's for everyperson to listen to their
(09:11):
religious leader and their ownguidance and decide for
themselves.
You know, Reiki is for those whoare led to it, and we're not
here to evangelize or try andconvince people to receive Reiki
or take Reiki training, youknow, unless they want to, and
they feel that that is theirguidance.
Um, you know, so Reiki is, youknow, working with healing
(09:34):
energy for health, wellness, youknow, physical, mental.
Um, it can increase yourspiritual connection.
And if people, you know, tellyou otherwise, then that's what
I would classify as a Reikimyth.
SPEAKER_03 (09:51):
Right.
And it's so interesting that youhave certain people, it's like a
hard no for distance.
They have to have the physicalin person, but kind of think
about it.
Well, stop using your cell phoneand trusting the cell tower.
Let's just go back to alandline, right?
So, you know, just trust theprocess.
And I too also get the religionas well.
(10:12):
Uh, they just have that ideathat there's something tethered
to it, that it has to be sometype of dogma or some type of
religion, but that seems to be acommon one as well that I've
encountered.
But 29, isn't that something?
SPEAKER_00 (10:25):
Yeah, well, and
there's more.
I just don't have them all down.
And my listeners on my podcastlast night were bringing up
more, so right.
SPEAKER_03 (10:35):
And I'm sure it's
going to be forever growing.
unknown (10:39):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_03 (10:40):
So as a therapist,
as a Reiki master teacher, you
know, you are there helping andserving others and helping them
through their challenges anddifficulties.
But what has been something thathas been a challenge for you in
your own journey?
SPEAKER_00 (10:58):
Hmm, in my own
journey.
Um, okay, like the biggestchallenge that I've faced as a
Reiki practitioner.
SPEAKER_03 (11:07):
It could be.
It can be something along yourhealing journey or your Reiki
path, or maybe even yourprofession as a Reiki teacher.
SPEAKER_00 (11:16):
Okay.
Well, um, you know, one of thethings that I worked with is how
to combine Reiki and counseling.
You know, since my first careerwas licensed professional
counselor and licensed marriageand family therapist, you know,
so I wanted to make sure that Idid that ethically and safely.
And, you know, I ended upwriting an article, Reiki for
(11:41):
Mental Health Professionals, part one and part two, that was
published in the Reiki Newsmagazine and is now on my
website at KarenHarrison.netunder Reiki and then Reiki
articles.
Um, so I looked into all of thatand you know, found ways that I
could incorporate it, you know, putting it onto my informed
(12:03):
consent and letting peoplechoose whether or not to receive
Reiki and doing Reiki hands-offand doing guided meditations and
and so forth, and giving peoplea choice whether they wanted to
come in as a counseling clientor uh a Reiki client, because
then I had a rule that, youknow, for two years after they
ended their treatment, theycouldn't switch, you know, to
(12:25):
the other modality.
And and I just wanted to be assafe as possible because I was
also at that time supervising alot of therapists for their
licensure.
And I wanted to make sure that Iheld myself to the highest
ethical standards because Iwanted them to also hold
themselves to the highestethical standards because they
(12:46):
were working under my license.
Um, so that has always workedwell.
I haven't had any problems withthat, and and now in my um, you
know, partial retirement yearshere, I have um, you know, just
decided to take everyone in as aReiki client because I found
(13:06):
that um Reiki actually worksquicker than my counseling tools
for some things like trauma andum it works wonderfully in
conjunction with counseling foryou know depression and anxiety.
And there's some people thathave already done all the
counseling and they they want totry something else, you know,
(13:30):
they still realize that there'sthis residual left, and I call
it the issues in your tissues.
Okay, so Reiki goes in and doeslike a deep cleaning to help
clean out, you know, theresidual that is left, and you
know, that's been reallywonderful.
(13:50):
So I love working on uh trauma, and I've written a lot of
articles about that, and uh,they're on my website, like
Reiki for Life Challenges andDifficulties and uh transforming
emotions with Reiki and uh more.
SPEAKER_03 (14:06):
Beautiful, and I
love the ethical standards,
that's why I resonate so muchwith the International Center of
Reiki training, because as yougo out and navigate through
Reiki, there's not too many thathave the standards of the
ethical and and how to moveforward.
Many practitioners here where Iam, you know, when you're coming
in for a session, there'sthere's no form, there's no
(14:29):
going over different things, youknow.
So I love that that you havethat standard, that standard of
excellence.
So uh it's not necessarily evenraising a bar, it's setting the
bar.
Here it is.
This is what we expect and howto move forward.
So as you have this wonderfuland amazing journey of, you
know, being the co-director ofthe ICRT uh master teacher
(14:52):
training program, what are somequalities that you look for in a
Reiki practitioner or a Reikimaster teacher?
SPEAKER_00 (15:01):
Well, back to
ethics.
You know, um, ethics and arethey walking their talk?
You know, are they embodyingReiki?
Are they doing their ownself-practice regularly?
Are they receiving a Reikisession, you know, on a regular
basis?
You know, I would hope thatReiki practitioners would
(15:23):
receive Reiki from someone elseat least once a month and you
know, do your regular Reikipractice and work to solve, you
know, your own problems andissues with Reiki.
You know, that that's always mygoal, that whenever I become
aware of an issue, you know, Ikind of like to think of things
on a scale of zero to ten, youknow, ten being the biggest
(15:45):
charge and zero being no charge.
And any issues of mine that havea charge more than a two, um,
then I want to do some Reikiwork on them.
I've developed a technique thatI call timeline therapy, and I
just work on the whole timelineof the challenge of the event
(16:05):
and the challenging emotion.
So I'll do that work on myself, you know, I'll go to others to
get help with it to work onclearing those out so that I can
be a clear channel, and youknow, that's who I would want to
go to as a practitioner, youknow, somebody that is doing
their own work.
(16:26):
And um, you know, I feel thatour licensed teachers are all
embodying that and doing theirown work, and I have a lot of uh
respect and and love for all ofthem.
SPEAKER_03 (16:38):
Beautiful.
So many that I've experienced, they get so excited and they get
that master's, and then they'reimmediately wanting to go out
and do all these classes, andthey get so hyper-focused in
doing the sessions that theytend to forget about themselves,
you know, and working and doingthe self-Rakey and then getting
treatments for themselves.
It's so important to do thatcheck-in and go to sessions and
(16:59):
even support other Reiki uhpractitioners as well.
So, what would you consider ared flag?
You've been doing this for quitesome time.
And as you sit here and youlook, especially at social
media, uh things that you'reseeing in the industry, what is
something that would be a redflag for someone who is
(17:20):
interested in getting a Reikisession?
Or they're kind of thinkingabout the idea of like, I'm
interested in getting training.
What would be like a no-wayrunaway kind of thing for you?
SPEAKER_00 (17:33):
Hmm.
So you're asking me if some if astudent came to me and they are
wanting Reiki training, youknow, what criteria would I use
to turn a student down?
SPEAKER_03 (17:46):
I would say, as
you're watching others in this
profession, what are some thingsthat you would maybe think is
unethical that we have to pauseand think?
You know, for instance, um asituation had arisen where
someone was teaching in thecommunity here that you can give
Reiki without consent.
I would consider that a redflag.
SPEAKER_00 (18:09):
Yes, well, that is
not okay.
Um, you know, some of the thingsthat I've seen over the years
are students coming to me withuh a notebook that their teacher
gave them where the teachercopied pages from different
Reiki books and manuals andWilliams Reiki the Healing Touch
(18:32):
book.
Um, you know, so copying otherpeople's materials in your
teaching, you know, that is acopyright violation.
And um, you know, if people areare copying other people's
websites and and social mediaposts, you know, I mean that's
(18:53):
that is actually the most commonethical violation that I see out
there.
But you know, I've seen manyover the years, um, you know,
things like uh I I mean I wrotea whole article on this called
Check Your Reiki EthicsKnowledge, and it's also on my
website, you know, a teachertelling their students that you
(19:15):
can't practice in my area andyou can't charge for sessions,
even though you know the teacheris charging, um, or you know,
down to actually the the worstviolation, which is a Reiki
practitioner turned soundhealer, um, turned uh sexuality
(19:39):
teacher who is telling theirstudents that I can help you
best by being sexual with you.
SPEAKER_01 (19:46):
Okay.
SPEAKER_00 (19:47):
I mean, that that
is, you know, really the the
worst violation that I've seenover the years.
And, you know, I mean, the thesethings don't come up very often,
but when they do, uh, that is abig problem.
SPEAKER_02 (20:00):
So right, right.
SPEAKER_03 (20:02):
Well, well, it's
interesting.
Um, you know, I it made me flashback to one of my earlier
classes that I learned Reikifrom, and I got my teacher's
manual and I was looking throughit.
And then it wasn't till laterwhen I connected with the
Healing Touch that I realizedthat some of those pages in that
(20:23):
manual that my teacher gave mewere from William Rand's book.
And I was like, wow.
So that made me think aboutthat.
Like, and at the time I didn'tknow any better because I
didn't, I wasn't aware of theHealing Touch book.
I just thought it was somethingthat the teacher put together.
But now that I think about it,it was almost like a whole Xerox
(20:44):
page in the manual.
Yeah, very interesting.
So, what advice would you givesomeone who's just entering this
profession?
You've been blessed to be mentorof um teachers going through the
ICRT program.
What is some advice that youwould give someone who's
choosing to whether leave theirprofession or try to have both
(21:05):
at the same time to bring Reikiinto their field?
SPEAKER_00 (21:12):
Well, definitely I
would tell a person do not leave
your profession if you need theincome from the profession.
I've seen that not go well.
Um, you know, it is a big leapto go from being a Reiki
practitioner to, you know, trying to have your own business
and especially if you need tosurvive on the income from that.
(21:36):
And it generally takes a goodfive years for a Reiki business
or for any business to getestablished, you know, as an
entrepreneur.
So, you know, definitely keepyour job uh if you need the
income and start Reikipart-time.
Um, I would suggest to read PamAlan LeBlanc's book, The Reiki
Business Book.
(21:56):
Um, you know, it is excellent.
Um, Deb Karpak also has a verygood book that I've read.
So you don't have to figure itall out for yourself.
You know, if you read the bookand start working with it, um,
Pam Alan LeBlanc also has uhmentoring classes that you can
(22:18):
find out about her from herwebsite, Reiki from the Farm.
Um, some of our other licensedteachers also have mentoring
programs that will help you toget your Reiki business going
and you know, get the help.
Um, and almost all of ourteachers will also provide
(22:39):
individual coaching.
So that's something that I do.
I have individual Reiki businesscoaching, where if someone has
you know questions about any ofthe areas of the business that
we work with, with the in theICRT, um, marketing, business
comprehension and organization,technology, uh, success
(23:01):
consciousness, healing issuesthat arise, teaching skills and
practitioner skills.
So if people have questionsabout any of those, you know,
they can book a Reiki businesssession coaching with me, and I,
you know, they can ask theirquestions and then I will give
them the individual attentionand help based on their
(23:23):
situation.
SPEAKER_03 (23:25):
Beautiful.
And I believe uh Colleen andRobin have the next step.
SPEAKER_00 (23:30):
Yes, they have next
step Reiki.
Um that I have not taken thattraining.
I think that's more acombination of uh Reiki and
shamanism, but I'm not as uhaware of that program.
Beautiful, beautiful.
SPEAKER_03 (23:45):
And that's what's
great about the ICRT that you
have just a wonderful group ofindividuals who are all
supportive of each other, there's no competition, and all
of you have a certain specialtyor skill.
So between everyone in thatgroup, you know, there's someone
there that can help and be ofservice.
So I love it.
So, what books do you recommend?
SPEAKER_00 (24:07):
Well, certainly
Pam's uh Reiki Business book.
And for those that arescientifically minded, this uh
Reiki and Clinical Practice byAnne Baldwin.
So this is on my read listsomeday.
I haven't gotten to it yet.
Um okay, Lorel Shantigaya's bookon Karuna Reiki.
(24:32):
I really like that.
And then for my students, youknow, I've been recommending
Mary Raposo's journal.
Oh, I love that help to helpkeep their practice going.
Um, you know, it's got a lot ofreally good things in here, some
tracking sheets, um, you know, ways to uh some journaling
(24:53):
exercises and you know, like aReiki tracker with activities.
So I really like that to helpkeep people accountable.
Um, in my own practice, I likethis Louise Hay book, um, Heal
Your Body.
You know, I can look updifferent things, like one of my
clients came in with uh bladderinfections, okay, and you look
(25:17):
and see what is likely theissue, and it says, you know,
pissed off, and then gives yousome affirmations.
Um, and then I have somearticles in this uh developing
your Reiki practice fromReiki.org on Reiki business
practices that I wrote withColleen Benelli.
(25:41):
So, I mean, that's this is justthe tip of the iceberg.
Basically, I recommend any bookby William Lee Rand.
Um, he's written many, he is avery accessible, clear author,
and I like that about him.
You know, I've written I readbooks by uh Walter Luback, and
he is more philosophical, um, alittle bit harder to read and
(26:02):
understand.
Um, but William's writings arejust very easy to read.
So uh all of his books.
SPEAKER_03 (26:11):
Yeah, he always
resonated with me.
I feel like connecting with hishealing touch was really
life-changing because where Istudied before, you know, there
were many things that I wastold.
And then when I found his book,I'm like, whoa, this is
completely different than what Ihad learned before.
And I love how he has everythingcited, he can back up the
(26:33):
information with everything,it's all in one source.
So you're not having to go hereand there.
So it really, uh, really welldone.
Um, I really felt that reallychanged.
I really feel it's arecommendation for everyone to
have the healing touch, definitely in their library.
So, what kind of uh othermodalities do you do?
(26:55):
Do you offer classes, trainings,events?
You said mentorship.
What do you offer?
SPEAKER_00 (27:00):
Yes.
So I teach um animal Reiki, theICRT Animal Reiki, and I love
the animal Reiki.
The energy is so beautiful andso grounded and soothing and
comforting.
Um, so I really love that.
I teach all levels of Reiki, youknow, Reiki 1 and 2, the Sui
(27:22):
Holy Fire Reiki Master.
Um, all my classes are hybrid,so I have people online and in
person at the same time.
So I can teach people fromanywhere in the world.
I also teach the Holy FireKaruna Reiki, and then I offer
the Reiki business coaching, Ioffer individual sessions in
(27:45):
person and online, and you know,I can incorporate some
counseling in the sessions, youknow.
So I have, you know, onegentleman that I'm working with
right now who, you know, feelslike he'd lost his voice.
So I'm, you know, using acombination of Reiki and some of
my counseling tools to help him.
(28:06):
Um, you know, one of thebeauties about moving out of the
counseling realm into the Reikirealm is, you know, I'm doing
everything as private pay, um,you know, not having to file
insurance, and that was never afun aspect of the business.
Um, so I I think everypractitioner prefers a private
(28:28):
pay model more.
SPEAKER_03 (28:30):
Right.
And you also have your very ownpodcast once a month, right?
Oh, yes.
SPEAKER_00 (28:35):
Well, thank you.
Yeah, so it's called Reiki Call, and it is the third Monday of
the month.
I've been doing this since 2017.
Um, so I've had many differentguests on on all different
topics.
Um, so like last night was ReikiMiss Part 2, and I've done
(28:57):
Reikian hospitals, ReikianAngels, Reikian Crystals, you
know, Reikian drumming, youknow, Reikian uh bowls, um,
healing spirit attachments.
I mean, just so many topics onthere.
It started off as a time when mystudents could ask me questions
(29:18):
and have dedicated time, youknow, every month, and where
they could send them in and Iwould answer them.
And then after a while, Istarted having some guests, and
um, I noticed that when I hadguests and a specific topic that
people seemed to be moreinterested.
So I kind of went that way andum yeah, been doing this a long
(29:40):
time.
SPEAKER_03 (29:40):
Well, thank you for
doing that.
I mean, it's helping get theword out, helping uh with the
misconceptions, getting peoplecurious, they begin to do their
own research, right?
And learn about it and grow.
So thank you for for doing that.
SPEAKER_00 (29:57):
Yeah.
Oh, I also oh, I also have.
A young living essential oilbusiness.
So I've incorporated that withmy Reiki.
And you know, generally overlunch in my classes on one day,
I'll offer a little bit ofinformation about how you can
combine Reiki and essential oilsin your practice.
(30:18):
And I've been working with themsince 1999.
So I've accumulated a fairamount of knowledge.
And my customers that purchasethe oils from me, I have over a
hundred pre-programmed classesin a texting program that they
(30:38):
can access on demand.
I roll out two classes a month.
And you know, these are classesthat you get like about a minute
of information a day for sevendays to two weeks, depending on
the class, on all sorts oftopics like essential oils for
(31:00):
dogs, essential oils for back toschool, winter wellness, how to
keep yourself healthy and well, how to deal with seasonal
allergies, and Reiki or oils foremotions.
So lots of different topics, andyou know, that's a nice service
(31:23):
to offer my customers, also.
SPEAKER_03 (31:26):
Beautiful.
I love that.
So where can we find you?
Someone's listening, they'relike, this is amazing.
I want to connect.
She's my teacher.
How do we get a hold of you?
SPEAKER_00 (31:37):
All right.
My website is KarenHarrison.net.
And you can also find me onFacebook under Whole Life Center
and Instagram, Karen HarrisonReiki.
I have a YouTube channel.
And that is you can find thatunder Karen Harrison Reiki.
(32:00):
So those are the places where Iam.
I'm also on LinkedIn.
SPEAKER_03 (32:05):
Beautiful,
beautiful.
And Reiki.org, Reiki magazine, look for your articles, right?
Your podcasts, Google you,wonderful connection.
Well, that ends the first partof our journey.
I'm going to guide you to thesecond part, which are questions
from listeners and Reikistudents.
Now, the ICRT program, I've beenblessed to have a few of the
(32:29):
teachers on here.
So the question is (32:30):
can you tell
me a little bit about the ICRT
program?
And one of the things when Italk privately to these teachers
afterwards, they tell me it'slife-changing, that it set their
lives in a completely differentand amazing direction.
And how did it help you changeyour life?
SPEAKER_00 (32:50):
Oh, well, it truly
has been life-changing.
You know, the I've received alot of mentoring, you know,
directly from William Brand.
That has been amazing.
You know, he helped me so much.
Because when I became a Reikipractitioner and teacher, there
were a lot of teachers in KansasCity.
And I thought, well, I want tobe the best Reiki teacher that I
(33:12):
can be.
So having his mentoring andcoaching and the other teachers,
the community of Reiki teacherswhere we all support and help
each other.
And I've studied with several ofthe other teachers in the ICRT,
and that's been wonderful, youknow, to see the different
(33:33):
teaching styles.
We all teach the samecurriculum, but we all bring our
own flavor to it.
So the support and helping eachother is what all the teachers
cite as their number one thing.
And, you know, the working withthe ICRT has just helped me grow
(33:54):
individually, personally, andprofessionally, you know, so
much.
And it's helped me through somehard times, you know, like the
death of my son from epilepsywhen he was 22 and uh going
through a divorce that nolonger, you know, the marriage
no longer was working and wasactually going to block me from
(34:19):
my Reiki journey, you know, because my husband was very
afraid of Reiki due to hisreligious upbringing.
And I decided that the Reiki wasactually more important to me
than staying in a marriage whereI felt like I was in a box and
couldn't be myself and couldn'texpand and grow.
(34:40):
Um, so you know, Reiki and myrelationships in the ICRT helped
me through all that.
And then over the years, um I'vegrown into bigger and bigger
leadership roles.
Um, you know, although I don'thave an official title yet,
we're working on that.
You know, I'm uh leading thesuccession planning team for the
(35:03):
ICRT, um, helping with that.
I'm also the assistant directorof finance.
So I just keep finding myself ingreater and greater leadership
roles, and that has been a verygrowing experience, you know,
learning how to do all sorts ofthings that I'd never done
before.
Like right now, I've beencreating organizational charts
(35:25):
and writing job descriptions forour directors of the ICRT.
Um, and I mean some of the otherthings that I love about the
ICRT is you know, the programthat we've developed to help
people go from having a Reikipractice where they've been
(35:47):
practicing and teaching for twoyears to becoming a world-class
Reiki teacher.
So that's what we offer.
Our program is not for the verybeginning Reiki teacher, you
know, that's where Pam AllenLeBlanc's book comes in, you
know, um, other mentoringprograms to help get you there.
(36:08):
But once you've been a teachingReiki master for two years, you
know that you like it, you'vebeen able to get some, you know,
basic things established likeyour website, your social media
presence, you've been able toattract, you know, some regular
clientele, that's when we takeyou from where you are now to
being able to reach a worldwideaudience and to have the Reiki
(36:33):
career that you want.
You know, I've several of ourteachers are now creating Reiki
retreats, you know, either closeto them or Jules Davis is taking
people to Egypt and doing Reikithings there and to Thailand.
And Kathy Milanowski has herretreat in uh Wisconsin, and
(36:55):
I've been to her retreat, and itis wonderful, um, you know,
three and four-day retreat.
So, you know, you can have thethe kind of Reiki business that
you want, you know, through ourmentoring program and having the
support of the other teachersand and the community there to
(37:17):
help you with any um knowledgegaps that you have or any
challenges that arise.
SPEAKER_03 (37:23):
Right.
And even three of the ICRteachers were called to bring
together Reiki, Kid Reiki.
SPEAKER_00 (37:30):
Yeah, so we have Kid
Reiki, we've got animal Reiki.
Yes, and and now we've got acouple of our teachers working
on healthcare Reiki.
SPEAKER_03 (37:41):
Beautiful.
Oh, yes, I saw that at theretreat.
Three years ago, I attended theretreat virtually.
So every year around Labor Day,right?
You have a Reiki retreat inSedona, and uh I had attended
the ICRT meeting, and I rememberuh very specifically, you were
in the dining hall and you hadspoken that you overheard
(38:03):
someone saying, Well, I'm notsure.
I'm not sure if I can do thisbecause it was the price.
And you had gotten inspired, andyou had written all of this
information down and you saidthis in a list.
This is something that you payas you learn.
This is an investment inyourself.
So don't look at the price, justyou know, this is what you're
(38:24):
doing, and you're helpingeducate yourself.
And so that's what inspired me.
And then, you know, thingshappened in life and I put it to
the side.
And then this past um August, you know, I was able to go and
be there in person and to beable to see the connections
between the teachers.
I mean, getting up there andthey're speaking, and everyone
(38:45):
was helping.
Someone would get up and here'sa microphone.
Let me help you adjust that, letme help you do that.
And even like before thegratitude ceremony, you know,
Colleen coming up and Chris andDon Donald T.
McManus hugging each other.
You know, that's that kind ofsupport.
There were helpers everywherethere.
And it's such a wonderfulcommunity.
(39:05):
And what I also like about it isthe variety of teachers, and
then all of them have thisamazing skill set, but yet
everyone is in unity, you know,of one, the ethics, you know,
two um, you know, the non-comp,we're not competing, we're
supporting, and then all are thesame price.
So it's not like, okay, well, Ifinished your training and I'm
(39:27):
deciding to change the numbersto angel numbers for my price.
And William, Colleen, Pam,yourself could easily charge way
more, but you're charging thesame amount as someone who just
had their certificate andthey're starting their first
class.
So I love that to have thatconsistency in price because I
have people that'll come andsay, Well, why should I pay you
(39:48):
this when I can go to thecommunity college or I can go
here and I can get it for$75.
But you're really getting thatquality, that education, that
experience, that mentorship allwithin that.
So that's why I love thatcommunity.
SPEAKER_00 (40:02):
Yes, yes.
And as you said, the ICRTprogram is uh earn while you
learn program.
Um, so I created a handout thatgoes over all the costs of the
program and what you also earn.
Um that it's all laid out veryclear, and people can look at it
(40:23):
and you know, look over what youget out of the program and
decide if the program is forthem.
Beautiful, beautiful.
SPEAKER_03 (40:32):
So you have been
working with this energy since
1993.
So, number two question is whathas surprised you about working
with Reiki?
SPEAKER_00 (40:41):
Um, I think the
quick healing of the traumas,
you know, that's that's whatI've been so impressed with
lately.
I find that when people come tome with a trauma that is, you
know, um complete, so to speak, like a divorce or um, you know,
(41:02):
past abuse, you know, somethingin the past versus something
ongoing, like you're dealingwith your partner's affair and
the partner is still having anaffair.
Um, if it's you know over, thennormally in two to four
occasionally successions, I canhelp her people clear out the
(41:22):
trauma from that.
And that is so fast.
You know, there's no way I cando that with my counseling
tools.
You know, even if people arereceiving EMDR, the eye movement
desensitization reprocessingtherapy, you know, that is very
fast.
I've not been trained in that.
Um, but I did tapping withpeople and I found tapping
(41:45):
required them to be compliantand go home and do the tapping
on themselves.
Well, not everyone would dothat.
So Reiki doesn't require that.
All they have to do is bewilling to tell me a little bit
about their trauma, and youknow, if they're willing to
release it, then the energyworks very quickly to help clear
(42:09):
that out.
Um, and that is just amazing, and it's so rewarding.
And sometimes people will comein and say, Oh, you know, I'm
sorry if it's too much.
Well, you know, no, it's not toomuch for me.
I'm a counselor, I'm trained towork with this, and it's also
rewarding to see the benefitsthat people get, you know, from
(42:31):
it.
So I I really love that part.
SPEAKER_03 (42:34):
Beautiful.
So, number three, this questioncomes in for someone who also is
a licensed professionalcounselor, marriage, and family
therapist.
And she asks, how could learningReiki and incorporating it in my
practice help my clients?
SPEAKER_00 (42:49):
Well, in so many
amazing ways.
You know, first of all, you canuse Reiki to clear the energy in
your room.
So imagine everyone that iscoming in is there because they
have a life challenge, they'reupset, they're depressed,
they're stressed, they'reanxious, and then they sit in
(43:10):
your office and then they leavethat energy in your office.
And you, the therapist, aresitting in there all day stewing
and that energy.
And the next person comes in andthey sit down in that chair, and
whether consciously or not, theyare now feeling the energy that
was left behind.
So doing some daily clearing ofyour office with the energy, and
(43:33):
whenever I would have adifficult session, then I would
do a quick clearing with theReiki energy between sessions,
you know.
So that's number one.
Number two is learning how toclear your own energy, you know,
with Kenyoku and powering up andprotecting your energy field,
um, you know, being able to beamReiki with your eyes for
(43:57):
difficult couple sessions.
You know, what I used to do is Iwould take notes with one hand
and then I would just send Reikiwith the other hand, you know,
while I was in the session.
Um sometimes I would erect aReiki symbol between me and the
client if I felt their energycoming and hitting me.
(44:17):
You know, many counselors arevery sensitive, empathic people.
And so being with other peopleall day long that are in pain
can be very difficult anddraining.
Um, so those tools to helpyourself, giving yourself daily
(44:38):
Reiki, you know, to helpyourself from uh not getting
burnt out.
I mean, Reiki really helped meas a marriage and family
therapist.
That's actually one of theharder kinds of counseling to do
because people come in andthey're arguing with each other.
And the basic premise of manymarriage and counseling sessions
(44:58):
is I'm fine.
If you can just fix my partnerand let them know that they're
wrong and I'm right, then ourmarriage will be fine.
Well, of course, that doesn'tever lead for a good counseling
outcome.
Um, so you know, being able touse the energy to work with them
and that dynamic.
Um, so in in summary, it'staking care of yourself, it's
(45:24):
filling up the room with goodenergy, it's clearing the room,
it's clearing yourself.
Um so frankly, I don't see howtherapists function without
Reiki.
SPEAKER_03 (45:36):
Sure.
Yeah, it's that spiritualhygiene.
And I I don't know how manytimes I've been in situations
where I've come in and thisproblem's happening, this
problem, and I'll ask thepractitioner, Well, did you did
you clear your space?
Oh, like they forget to clear itafter clients with it.
But just like you know, youbrush your teeth and you put
(45:58):
your deodorant on so you don'tsmell, you need to put that
shield up, right?
To protect you from the energybecause it carries with you, you
know, all of that that peopleare are putting on you and
clearing the space and clearingthat energy.
So thank you for sharing that.
Well, that was our lastquestion.
And as we've been talking, isthere something that you may
(46:20):
have forgotten or something youlike to share with the
listeners?
SPEAKER_00 (46:26):
Well, I think Reiki
is a very important life tool,
you know, it helps withspirituality, it helps me to
connect to the divine and havemany moments of bliss and aha
moments, and you know, feel likeI've touched the intangible, um,
you know, because I want aspirituality that I can feel,
(46:50):
you know, that is real to mebeyond just what I can read in a
book of someone else'sexperience.
I want to feel it.
So Reiki gives me that.
Um, it gives me tools to help mewith my difficult emotions.
Um, you know, when I'mdepressed, anxious, you know,
(47:11):
upset.
I it's helped me with surgeries.
You know, this past February, Ihad to have a surgery where I
was awake in the office gettingcut open about that far.
Um, you know, and uh Reikihelped me with all that anxiety,
and then it helped me to healquickly.
(47:31):
You know, Reiki has helped mewith relationships.
You know, my relationship withmy brother was troubled for many
years, and I used Reiki to helpturn it around, and now he is my
Snapchat buddy, sending me about10 snaps a day.
And that relationship was sotroubled that I couldn't hardly
stand to, you know, spend muchtime with him for many years.
(47:56):
So it, you know, it's just it'shelped me in my business and in
career and in attractingstudents to me.
You know, I've I've taught, youknow, I don't know, well over a
thousand students.
I don't really have a a number,but I've been teaching since
1998.
SPEAKER_01 (48:16):
Yeah.
SPEAKER_00 (48:16):
Um, a lot, a lot, a
lot.
And it's helped me whenever I'vehad challenges in classes.
You know, that doesn't happenvery often, but occasionally,
you know, you'll have a studentthat's got, you know, some
different needs and things.
And so it helps me with that.
And just, you know, Reiki is a awonderful, important life tool
(48:39):
where I would hope to have aReiki practitioner in every
family.
SPEAKER_03 (48:43):
That's what I always
say.
I always say, I always havesomeone who's medical, whether
they're a nurse or a doctor, andthen a Reiki practitioner.
I think every household needsthat.
Yeah.
I mean, it really is about beingthat Reiki lifestyle because
you're only limited by yourimagination.
And that's what's great about uhthe Reiki news magazine, because
every time I get the issue, I'mlike, whoa, like, wow, Reiki
(49:08):
with a mouse, right?
Right, Reiki for cleaning, likejust things you wouldn't even
think of.
But it really is, you can use itfor anything and all, right?
SPEAKER_00 (49:16):
Yes, yes.
My animal Reiki classes, I'vetaken them to a wildlife rehab
place where we have worked onbats and uh possums and raccoons
and owls and turtles.
Uh yes.
SPEAKER_03 (49:32):
Everything from
cleaning your house, right, to
situations, to your business.
It's it's it's endless, endless,endless, endless.
