Seventeen-year-old Karmelo Anthony admitted to police at the scene of a track meet in Frisco, Texas that he stabbed fellow teen, 17-year-old Austin Metcalf. Austin later died from his injuries, and Karmelo has since been charged with murder.

Karmelo is Black. Austin was white. Since the fatal stabbing on April 2, the case has taken on a racial dimension, fueling tensions both locally and online.

Presiding over the case is Judge Angela Tucker, a Republican and also Black. She has reportedly been doxxed and, like the Anthony family, has faced ongoing threats, prompting both parties to increase their security measures.

Karmelo’s admission, combined with the racial dynamics and public outcry, has made this a complex and emotionally charged case.
