Óscar Navarrete Aguilar es un reconocido fotoperiodista nicaragüense con 38 años de trayectoria, gran parte de ellos dedicados al diario La Prensa. Hoy se encuentra en el exilio, tras haber enfrentado un entorno cada vez más hostil para ejercer el periodismo en Nicaragua. Antes de salir del país, se vio obligado a trabajar de forma clandestina, evitando ser detectado por las fuerzas represivas del régimen.
El cierre de La Prensa en 2021, que vivió desde casa con COVID-19, marcó un momento doloroso para él, al ver cómo la represión golpeaba no solo a los periodistas, sino también a las familias que dependían del diario. Navarrete compara la censura actual con la de los años 80, aunque ahora —dice— existe un aparato legal que criminaliza a los medios. A pesar del exilio, su pasión por el fotoperiodismo permanece firme. Con su cámara como herramienta de resistencia, sigue contando la historia desde donde esté.
