Speaker 1 (00:16):
We'll be talking
world building, unforgettable

So let's jump into the realmand everything that makes these
genres legendary.
So let's jump into the realm.
Hey everybody, in just a fewminutes we'll dive into our main
topic for the night, ourunderrated anime gems.
But first let's go ahead anddive right into Realm Rumors.
What do you got for us thisweek, jordan?
Speaker 2 (00:36):
So what we're looking
at here?
Actually you kind of the onewho told me about this and
looking it up I got superexcited.
I guess, uh, there's real lifehunters out there and not the
animal kind, the uh, you knowsuperpower kind apparently.
Yeah, man, tell me a little bit.
I know you said it to meoriginally.
I know we were kind of chattingabout it on the weekend there
(00:57):
dude.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
I don't even know how
I found it.
I was doom scrolling throughreddit and I just, um, I saw
this thing for the hunter's examand I was like, oh yeah, the
Hunter's exam arc, great arc.
And then I saw the next linkand I think it's the second or
third link on somewhere, butanyways, it was the second or
third link I saw and I was like, wait, no, this is a legitimate
website, what's going on here?
So I clicked into yeah, Iclicked into that to go check it
(01:20):
out and I'm oh, these guys are, they're hosting a legit
hunter's exam and you know, they're modeling it after yeah,
they're modeling it after.
You know the hunter's exam markthat you know gone and um, the
whole crew went through, youknow, in the in the beginning of
the series.
So they've got the, they've gotthe big endurance run section.
Um, they're promising to dolike 10 to 15 mile run, but you
(01:43):
don't't know.
Yeah, they're not going to tellyou right.
Yeah, it's just like just likethe, you know, just like the
show they're not going to tellyou.
Then they've got like thisdeception thing, and then
there's a labyrinth, and thenyou know some sort of one on one
combat, like all in all itlooks pretty awesome.
And you know, that's what I wassaying to you.
I was saying to you, I was likedude, we got to go to this, we
got to do this.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Yes.
So yeah, guys, we're going togo check it out as viewers and
we'll report back how epic it isor you know who becomes a pro
hunter, right?
Maybe we can snag an interviewwith somebody.
That would be kind of cool.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Yeah, that would
definitely be awesome.
And, as of the airing of thisepisode, everyone, we're about
10 days away from the Hunter'sexam That'll take place on March
29th, obviously, 2025, in thePlains Virginia.
Yeah, it's a big old field,right?
Yeah, I looked it up, it's amassive, massive field.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Dude, we're going to
have to take video pictures.
I'm sure people are going to bedressed up in cool outfits, I'm
hoping, oh, dude, which wouldbe epic and then maybe we can,
yeah, snag an interview or twoand post it on the socials.
Man, that'd be, that'd beawesome yeah, that would.
That would definitely be superdope so we'll let you guys know
it'll be.
It'll be a fun time, um, butyeah, let's jump in right.
Underrated right is what wewere looking at this week.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Yeah, man, underrated
anime gyms and you know the
criteria.
I was kind of think of and Idid check out the criteria for
all the shows is one you knowit's not talked about so much
anymore, Like you just don'thear anybody talking about it,
or it has a low rating and weused AnyListco to generate the
(03:22):
light, to generate the ratingscore and every single one of
these shows is under 73%, like Idon't know, satisfaction or
whatever you want to call it,rated on on any listco.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
But which is kind of
nuts Cause, like all of them.
You know I did too and you didtoo are so interesting and
really good.
So yeah, I don't know, some ofthem are older, maybe that's
what it is before.
You know, streaming was a hugedeal.
You know we're all on youtubewatching it again.
Part one, two, three, four, maybe that's part of it.
But uh, yeah, man, I'll jump inon first, then I guess you can
(03:55):
go after that if you're coolwith it.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
Yeah, go first take.
Uh, you know you're bringingtwo and I'm bringing two, so hit
them all right, very cool.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
so mine is claymore.
I mean, I've mentioned itbefore.
Um, it is an inspiration for meas a writer.
Uh, it's still inspiration of alot of probably cool stories,
at least with the, you know, monster hunting type vibe, you
know witcher type stuff, in away very similar actually,
because they do have powers andthey hunt monsters and all these
different things, um, and thenthere is an organization that's
(04:24):
kind of above everybody thatthey are the ones that tell the
hunters where to go.
This story, though, is prettyinteresting because it was
actually made by Madhouse, so weall know Madhouse, very popular
anime studio back in 07.
So it's been a minute that it'scome out.
The manga is obviously finished.
(04:45):
It's a 26 episode run, so ithad a good season, although I
would say that and I don't knowwhy it wasn't really picked up
for more seasons, although Ifeel like if they redid it now
it probably would, because it'slike the perfect vibes for
nowadays Serious send, send inlevel blood tragedy, you know
(05:06):
all that cool stuff.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
So that's actually
something that surprised me.
You put it here in your notesthat it that it was in Shonen
Jump and I, when I watched that,I remember thinking that that
couldn't have been Shonen.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Yeah, it really was.
Yeah, I think this is probablythe time when they started to
lean into more darker storytimes.
Even Death Note and stuff wasin Shonen Jump, which makes no
sense.
It's not a hero character, he'sliterally a villain.
It's the main character, modernday.
It's not underdog story typestuff.
I mean this does have thoseelements.
(05:39):
Cool thing about this that kindof sets it apart, though, is
literally all females.
The whole cast is women.
Um, so there's really there areguys obviously in the world and
stuff, medieval times type thing, but a lot of them are, uh, you
know, regular humans or some ofthe monsters end up becoming,
you know they're, they're dudes, and it kind of goes into a
little bit more detail of it.
But I'll run it down a littlebit here.
(06:00):
We can chat about it and, uh,maybe I can get some people to
see this because it is a reallyfun show, if you, uh, if you
haven't seen it.
So it's a medieval type worldmonster infested land.
Human eating creatures calledyoma disguise themselves as
human so they can look like us.
They live in the town.
Kids go missing, people aregoing missing very witcher vibes
(06:21):
in way, because the town has tokind of like hire the
organization that has theClaymore, the warriors, to kill
them to come in and do it.
So it's very Witcher-like inthat type of thing, of course,
but they are called Claymorebecause they all use giant,
badass broadswords.
That would look great behindyou on the wall there.
(06:43):
It would look awesome.
Now the main character is Claire, so they do rank the Claymore
based on strength.
She's number 47, which is thelowest rank of the weakest, but
she was raised and saved by thenumber one rank one that ever
existed, teresa.
So it has her backstory.
Of course she gets a little kid.
(07:05):
There's a monster, it's killingher family.
Saved.
Teresa saves her.
Teresa's the badass one, thestrongest, and eventually she
gets killed.
And that's what sets Claire uphere to become a Claymore and go
on the journey of trying toavenge her mentor type situation
.
Now, interestingly enough aboutthis series, in this show, the
(07:30):
way you get abilities is youhave to devour the flesh of one
of the monsters.
The problem is, if men do it,they do get strong and they do
become powerful warriors, butthe Yoma energy overwhelms them
and they end up becoming themonsters.
Where, for whatever reason, women they can fight that off,
(07:51):
where they don't become theactual monsters.
So with Claire, that'sinteresting is she didn't devour
the flesh of the monster to gether powers.
She ended up devouring theflesh of Teresa after she's
killed, which never has beendone before and gives her
certain abilities and knowabilities and things that Teresa
may have had or whatever.
But it's a big, you know, coolworld because it sets the stage
for, like, what is thisorganization?
(08:13):
They're protecting people quoteunquote, right, but they're
also like, where are thesemonsters coming from?
Why is this a thing?
Are they really good?
They're very mysterious.
You know they have all thethey're.
They're kind of like you knowthe chess masters.
They move the girls where theywant, tell them, give them the
missions, don't ask questions.
(08:34):
And you know a lot of people, alot of these claymore.
They've lost people to monsters, so obviously they want to hunt
them.
You know they wouldn't.
They would want to get revengeon them if they could, right?
I mean, that's kind of the wholeconcept of it, um, but uh, the
second main character is a guythat she, claire, ends up saving
and uh, he ends up kind ofgoing with her.
He's the audience, I think, kind of like stand into the
(08:56):
world of like experiencingwhat's happening.
You know the battles, claire, you know she's full of rage,
hatred, all that stuff, and itkind of like builds from there.
Um, the kid's name is rocky andhe's the one that kind of like
it's almost like they're losingtheir humanity to the powers, to
the monster abilities.
So he's kind of like theemotional center that keeps her
(09:18):
like human, I guess, in a wayright, yeah, that's kind of the
way I felt about it.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
He was the.
He was like her grounding forcethroughout the uh, throughout
the show oh yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
And you know the
themes are cool because it's
humanity versus monsters, whichis always fun.
Um, control, power versuscontrol, right.
So the stronger you get in thein the yoma powers, the closer
they can get to possibly, youknow, giving into it.
You know there's that wholefreedom of choice thing going on
.
And then the revenge arc, right, like she's trying to avenge
her, her kind of her mom in away, is how she looks at her and
(09:50):
it's, um, you know, it's gotthe whole female empowerment
thing, which is super coolbecause you know, a lot of anime
have strong male characters, alot of them have strong female
characters, but you don't reallysee one of all women.
And then it's set in this likemedieval world.
Of course the organization aremostly men, so that's kind of
interesting um, but throwingyeah upside down, yeah yeah,
(10:11):
it's kind of upside down thatway, um, and then you know,
there is it's kind of it'sinteresting story, because I
watched the anime.
It was like this, really cool, and years later I found the
manga, ended up reading it awhole thing, which I I hope it
gets animated because it reallywould be probably really big
right now.
But the cool thing in the manga, the way it ends, it blows out
this whole storyline of I'mtrying to think.
(10:34):
I don't want to spoil it, maybethe organization isn't as good
as they pretend, type thing.
Yeah, sure, and it's more oflike a propaganda thing because
you know, are they making themonsters?
Where are the monsters comingfrom?
What's really going on in thebigger world?
And I don't want to spoil it,but all I'll say is, if you've
watched Attack on Titan to acertain point you see there's a
(10:55):
bigger world out there, similartype situation in that.
So, yeah, dope story man.
I tell anyone, if you likesword abilities, you know
fighting, but real stakes death, check out.
Tell anyone, if you like swordabilities, you know fighting,
but real stakes death, check out.
Claymore, if you haven't, it'sum, it's a really fun show man,
it's, it's awesome I will sayclaymore wasn't and is not,
(11:16):
still it's not, you know, it's.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
It's probably not
even in the top 10 for me for
favorites, but it was reallygood and the story was
compelling and, um, you knowwhat you were saying about the
monsters and, like, what arethey actually doing there?
That it kind of it's one ofthose situations where it's like
you know, the longer you stareinto the abyss, the abyss stares
back into you.
Right, absolutely, yeah,absolutely.
So I do have.
(11:38):
I do have a pretty big questionwhy do you think this isn't
still talked about?
Because it was impactful and itwas a big show and they had.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
Well, they had
madhouse animating, which
they're solid.
I mean, madhouse is good.
Now the only thing is, madhousehas a reputation where they
will take a series, animate oneseason and it'll be great, and
then they will not animateanother season.
They they just say nope, we'regoing on.
The next thing and you knowthis is back in the day where
(12:10):
anime were mainly made to sellthe mangas, like that's kind of
what it was.
Nowadays, I feel like if itwere to be redone, or even the
second season, I would.
I personally would say theyshould just restart it because
it's been right, it's almost 20years it's almost 20 years by
now it's ripefor and the story's over, so you
don't have to worry aboutfiller or making up endings,
(12:32):
just just do it.
I don't think it blew upbecause I think one season
really hurts stuff like that, you know, and I think back then
it wasn't as easy and accessiblein 07, and stuff to watch anime
on your phone, on your, yourcomputer, on your TV, on the
apps, it really wasn't that biga thing.
So I think time period, maybeit was ahead of its time a
(12:53):
little bit in a way and, funnyenough, the only thing Madhouse
seems to do multiple seasons ofthey're the ones who do Overlord
, right.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
They are right.
You're asking the wrong one.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
I watched four
episodes of overlord and I was
kind of done with it okay, holdon, I'm just gonna look at it
real quick because I feel likeit's mad.
Uh, yes, it looks like.
Yeah, it is.
So they keep doing overlord, but any other series they do one
in bounds they're like overlordis our main side.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
You know that's like
our main project.
Everybody else is just a sidepiece.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Right, yeah, right,
absolutely.
Did you want to go with one,and then I'll do one after you?
That's probably easy.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
It doesn't matter to
me man.
Yeah, I can go.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
So yeah, go ahead,
I'll do my next one after you.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
Right.
So the first underrated animethat I think we should be
including on this list, there'sa little show called Trinity
Blood.
You know, quick summary it'spost-apocalyptic world.
You've got vampires which arecalled Methuselah, and then
you've got the humans which arecalled Terrans.
They're locked in this, youknow, just basically a Cold War,
(13:58):
and the Vatican deploys, youknow, different spies, different
agents all over the world, andso do the, you know, so do the
Methuselah, the vampires, soit's just this whole interesting
Cold War story going on thatdoes end up in some minor
skirmishes and you know somethings going on.
But you know it follows aroundthis priest and his name is Abel
(14:21):
Night Road.
But the thing about Abel NightRoad is, is he's actually major
spoiler?
But you know Abel Abel Knightroad is, you know, like one of
the founding Methuselah.
He was one of the originalthree Methuselah but he's
different he's.
He's what they call a cruiseNick.
He survives on feeding on othervampires.
Dope oh yeah, he he has nointerest in humans.
(14:45):
He gets his power and his sohe's.
You know, he's kind of likethis bumbling dude until he goes
full power mode Right, which Idon't know for an anime that was
made in 05, you know it justhad that.
It just had that good oldschool anime feeling for me, you
know, just that comfort animeUm and it was around rim glasses
(15:06):
too, man, yeah, I remember that.
And it was only a one season run, I believe.
But I think the season is, Idon't know it's not 12 episodes,
it's either 26 or you know it'shigher than that.
I'm not going to lie to you andsay exactly how many episodes
is, but I'm pretty sure it'sjust a one season run, one and
done.
But I just I love it.
(15:26):
It's got that old school feel.
It just gives me kind of thosecomfort vibes.
It's got a unique take onvampires man.
I mean like the concept of theconcept of making a vampire
through science fiction insteadof, you know, the traditional
way, like dracula and stuff likethat.
That's not new.
Um, the science fiction aspectof the birth of vampires has
been done.
(15:47):
But I don't know, this feltlike a fresh take on on it for
me and this was at a time when Iwas just getting back into
anime.
So it, you know, it really justreally brought it for me and I
I don't know, I just love thecharacter interactions.
Um, you know, you've got yourgoofy moments.
There were, there was times inthere where it felt episodic,
(16:07):
like d gray man, where you'vegot a monster of the week type
of thing.
It does feel a little bit likethat Occasionally they kind of
look similar, like thecharacters.
I would.
Honestly, I wouldn't besurprised if you looked it up
right now and told me that itwas the same studio.
I don't know.
It probably is.
Yeah, it's the same time period, you know, it's got a got a
little bit of the same feel, butalso completely different.
(16:28):
And Now some of the otherthings I like about it.
I normally we've talked aboutthis before I normally go
straight in for the fantasy, lean more hard towards the
fantasy side.
So this one's a little bitweird, right, because it's more
sci fi, goth horror stuff, alittle bit soft on the goth
horror, but definitely more scifi.
I don't know, man, the show isjust.
(16:48):
It just did it.
For me it was good.
The animation, you know, know,it feels like 2005.
So if you guys go watch this,it's gonna feel like you're in
2005, but it doesn't take awayfrom it, doesn't take away from,
you know, the beauty of whatthe show is doesn't take you out
of it or anything, right yeah, the art was good for the time
period and it still stands todayas good art.
(17:08):
It just might not be as vibrant,it's not going to be as vibrant
solo leveling, but it stilllooks great, you know yeah,
absolutely yeah, so I don't haveas much to say on that show as
you.
You know you do with claymore,uh, but that's just because I
like there are some story thingsin there that I don't really
want to go too too, too muchinto yeah, I got you I know I
(17:30):
saw it because I remember thecharacters.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
I don't remember the
story for beta I.
I mean, when you watch so manyit's hard to remember them all
but I do remember the name thatI looked at that I was like, oh
yeah, the guy with the whitehair.
He's funny, goofy, but then getsuper serious and it's a badass
.
Speaker 1 (17:44):
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
Oh yeah, I definitely
remember that one.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
So good.
It's great and I think you knowI did kind of say this.
It came out during a crowdedtime, but I really do think that
that's the only reason whynobody is still talking about
that is because it was a crowdedera of just great shows coming.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
Did it finish the
whole story in that one season?
Do you remember?
So I don't know.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
It felt like a
completed story I will say that
it felt like a completed story.
But I never double checked withthe manga.
I never looked to see if therewere light novels.
When I finished that series Ifelt like it was a completed
story.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
So I was happy with
the way it ended.
It fulfilled the story.
For me, I then.
It never gets done in anime, like and you know, so that's.
It seems like those days, to anextent, are kind of not really
(18:41):
happening anymore with anime.
It's usually like they seem tobe finishing them a lot more,
although there are shorterseasons, you know, which is cool
.
But I hate those one seasonones that the cliffhanger and
you never, you never see itagain.
All right, well, I'll do mine.
So I've mentioned this onebefore Gangsta.
Speaker 1 (18:59):
Yeah, you have
mentioned this.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
And.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
I don't know, I just
I haven't seen this one at all.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
So you want vibes,
black Lagoon vibes and I know
you liked Black Lagoon, it wasawesome, so this one is very
similar.
This came out in 2015.
So about like black lagoon wasawesome, so this one is is very
similar.
This came out in 2015, so about10 years old, so the anime is,
you know, animation's crisp, andit really does deal with some
interesting stuff.
So, in this story, modern day, very black lagoon, like
mercenary hitman, like that kindof stuff, uh takes place in a
(19:28):
city that's like just I'm noteven trying to say the name,
it's super hard to say, but it'sall um.
Mafia syndicates control thiscity, so there's different ones.
Right, there's gangs, there'sprostitutes, there's all kinds
of stuff, drugs going on butthere's these people called
Twilights that they'resuperhuman and what it is is
that they've taken a drug calledCelebrar, and it boosts your.
(19:53):
It boosts your, your abilities, and you become super human in a
way, so like captain america, like strong, fast, agile, like
different powers you get.
The thing is, with the drug, though, is it cuts your lifespan
.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
So every, so does it
cut your lifespan immediately
when you first take it, or likeevery?
Successive time you take it.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
No, so you don't have
to keep taking it.
But once you take it, anddepending on and not everyone
can survive it too.
So it's not like everyone getstaken, you can.
Whatever it's like you take it,you're taking a risk.
You're going to die right thenand there.
Or you're forced to take it, itcould be.
Or you're like, hey, my life'sterrible, I can earn money if I
become a twilight or mercenary.
I'm going to take my chance anddo it.
(20:34):
So you do it and, depending onthe way your body bonds with it,
you can get stronger.
There's levels to it.
Tears of, yeah, of power, butyou do lose lifespan the
stronger you get.
So it's, it's one of those.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
Yeah, it's kind of
one of those things so your
lifespan is inversely inverselytied to how strong you are.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Yeah, pretty much.
Pretty much.
So the main characters there'sthree of them.
There's Warwick, which he'skind of like that smart mouth,
interesting, funny but verysmart type character.
He's a former mafia aristocrat,terrible past, he's like a
gunman.
He also gigolo, which ishilarious.
(21:14):
You know, a dude just living itup.
And then the other maincharacter is nicholas brown.
So he's actually deaf, which issuper interesting, and he uses
a katana as his main weapon andhe's strong as shit, tell me.
But you don't, you don't reallysee that type of disability
character right in anime.
So that's cool.
And the last one's a woman, aAlex Benedetto.
(21:34):
She's a former prostitute.
She is rescued by the handymenis what Warwick and Nicholas are
.
They call themselves and theykind of become her guards,
protector against the rest ofthe mafia families and the
different missions and stuff.
And she kind of becomes theirsecretary, as in she books their
jobs.
So it's like this unwittingtrio that kind of becomes their
secretary, as in she books theirjobs.
(21:54):
So it's like this unwittingtrio that kind of like binds
themselves together in thisterrible ass.
You know world that they uhtrauma bonding.
Yeah, I'll do it 100.
Now nicholas, he's an a-rank,like he's super strong.
Everyone knows who he is like.
Yeah, he's the guy pretty much.
So the whole show kind ofrevolves around like the the
(22:17):
cause.
There's people who, like, wantto free the twilight.
It's like this is wrong becausethey are discriminated against.
So it's weird because peoplelook down on them but they need
them, but they hate them, butthey need them and they hire
them, but they hate them.
You know, it's like this wholeyou know what I mean Back and
forth thing and you get to seetheir, you know their
backstories and then why, youknow why are they in this?
(22:38):
How did they get the drug?
And then it kind of just likebuilds around that whole thing.
Um, I do remember I'm prettysure I don't know if it was a
full story of the whole manga.
I never read it, so I don'tknow if there's more of it.
I felt like it was pretty goodon the end of the season, but I
do remember there being somecontroversy because the studio
who animated it and this issuper weird they, they animated
(23:00):
it.
It's beautiful, it looks great, the animation Story's great,
action's great, very maturethemes, and it came out and it
was like for some reason, thestudio went bankrupt and they
literally shut down during itbeing released.
So it's crazy.
Manga Globe or Maya Globe wasthe name of the animation studio
(23:22):
.
They did a great job and Idon't know what happened behind
the scenes, because you never,if you're a successful show,
usually not gonna go bankruptlike while it's releasing, like
what are you talking about nodude people.
You never heard things withmoney on the backside yeah, I
don't know if that's what it was, um, I didn't look into like
the thing, but it's only 12episodes so you can just watch
(23:44):
it pretty much in a day or soand it's a really fun thing.
It's gritty, it's mature,realistic themes, unique
characters, deaf protagonists,which is interesting.
Diverse Action is brutal manBlood guns, it's crime.
You know, think of like theworst city and it's in.
But all these people are stuckin this city, they can't leave
(24:06):
the city very nice and they'reall vying for that political
control.
So, yeah, I think you, uh, youdig it for sure, and it's
fantasy because there's powers,so it still matches that does
not, no, no, that that's.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
That does not make a
fantasy, um, but it does still
sound interesting, so I willcheck it out.
I you know, I'll pop that in,like I don't know, friday or
saturday and yeah, it's an easyone.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
It's not, you know,
super long and nothing crazy no,
it sounds good, dude.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
Um and again, yeah,
not fantasy, but I will check it
out all right, good enough,we'll roll with it funny enough,
the the second one I'm bringingtonight is also not fantasy,
which surprise you know.
Normally, again, I go full inon the fantasy stuff and I I
tend to leave other types ofshows alone.
I did start branching outseveral years ago.
(24:52):
You know, psychopath is when Istarted branching out and such a
good show psychopath is not the, not the show that I'm talking
about as an underrated show, because that is definitely not
under.
That's just that's the.
The hype it psychopath gets isvery well deserved.
Um, but this one is called deadmount, death play and before
you get any weird ideas, no,it's not any kind of weird
(25:14):
hentai thing.
Speaker 2 (25:16):
Um the name of this
is so familiar, though like I
feel like I've heard of this.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
I feel like there's
something lost in the
translation between.
You know the original Japanesename and you know what what it
translates to in English.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
I.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
I doubt it's supposed
to be something that that goofy
, but who knows Right.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
Um, bro, there's
names Now.
I reincarnated as a cat after Idied and you know there's, like
these crazy ass, seven sentencenames now, so that's not too
bad.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
No, yeah, dead Mount.
Death Play, all thingsconsidered, is not a bad name,
but this follows the story of alegendary necromancer.
His name is the Corpse God.
And yes, I did say this wasn'ta true fantasy and it's not.
Give me a second.
This is a reverse isekai, whichI I generally don't like these
at all.
Um, there's one or two.
(26:04):
Maybe the devil is a part-timeris really funny, you know, but
the action is just not there forme, that's more I feel like
devil is a part-timer is likeslice of life right 100.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
Yeah, I feel like
there's so much there and they
never really get to it, right sothis is a reverse isekai.
Speaker 1 (26:20):
That's good.
It's got some good action and Ifeel like it brings a fresh
take, you know, to the to thegenre there.
So it follows this legendarynecromancer known as the corpse
god and, you know, very openingscene, he's got this massive
battle and he's, he's, he's very, very strong, but you know,
they bring out all the guns tobeat him.
(26:40):
Well, at the end he knows he'sgoing to lose, so he casts a
spell that he has been preparingfor quite a long time and he
casts this spell to bring him toanother universe, which would
be our universe, earth.
Well, he jumps right into thedead body of a boy that has just
been killed, this PokaShinoyama, and this kid has just
been killed, this, uh, pokashinoyama, and this kid has just
(27:01):
been killed.
So, right off the bat, theaction is there, because the
assassin that just killed killedthis kid, is like why are you
still alive?
Now?
I gotta kill you, right.
So it brings the action rightthat's kind of cool street yeah
no, it is great.
It brings the action right fromjump street.
Um, the, the girl I don'tremember her name right off the
(27:21):
top of my head.
She is insane in all the bestways.
She makes you know, she makesthe insanity enjoyable.
It's not like, oh my God, theannoying insane right Like she.
Just her level of insanitybrings some you know laughter to
it.
Like it just it makes it fun towatch and he gets caught up in
the underworld.
This is the whole story, because you know of this
(27:43):
assassin and the things hisfamily was involved in.
He gets caught up in theunderworld and you know he goes
from you know this other worldstraight into this criminal
underworld and it startsbringing in these durarara vibes
for me okay, yeah, I like that, yeah, I know, you know that
show and it just givesme those same vibes.
Right, you're a little bitconfused the first episode and
(28:04):
then the further you get in,you're like man.
This is some good storytellingand the side characters in this
are compelling.
There's a couple of policeofficers that the show sort of
follows around.
The police officers are donewell.
Yeah, there's a few tropeythings in there, but the stories
are compelling.
Um, there's this clown magiciandude, and he is also probably a
(28:26):
psychopath.
You know, just out there doingcrazy stuff for the, for the
lulz, you know, just for thelaughs good old hisoka character
kind of.
Yeah, a little bit more, alittle bit more crazy, okay,
joker?
okay, that's cool yeah, morelike less, bit more crazy.
Okay, joker, okay, that's cool.
Yeah, more like less insane, more crazy, I don't know.
Ooh, it's a.
It's a weird line, cause he'she's not super violent.
(28:48):
He will get violent, but it'snot, that's not his goal.
Right, he's just out to pullthese antics Like he wants to
pull, that he can do them andstuff like that.
You know, he he plays pranks onlike the mayor and stuff like
that.
I mean, these pranks should gethim arrested.
But yeah, that's that's hiswhole world is just doing this
crazy stuff and it's just theblend of these characters in
(29:10):
this show.
Right, you've got gangconflicts which, as I said, you
know, polka slash the corpse.
God, he's heavily involved nowin this criminal underworld.
His companions are involved inthis criminal underworld.
His companions are involved inthis criminal underworld.
So you got the criminal stuffgoing on.
You got the occult stuff goingon.
Then you throw this magician inthe mix who just likes to just
jump in there and just mess witheverybody, right, like his
(29:33):
whole thing is to shakeeverybody up, and so it just, it
just provides this.
It provides this like sense ofjust craziness, like the
everything that's going on.
You're like I have no ideawhat's happening next, and this
is one of those few times that Ilove that when I can't predict
what's going to happen.
You know what I mean.
I just I love that, yeah, andyou know, this show is not that
(29:54):
old.
I think it came out in 2022.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
Okay, so it's not
that old.
Yeah, yeah, that's the thingI've heard of it, but I haven't
talked about it.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
I don't hear anybody
talk about it.
I don't know because I it.
Just to me this is great.
I think everybody just lookedat it and said isekai and left
it alone.
Right, because 2022 to nowthere's a lot of isekai that
came up, so I feel like that'sprobably what happened.
It got slapped with an isekailabel and people were like no,
(30:22):
not for me.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
Well, hey, give it a
shot at least.
I mean it's reverse, so itmight be fun.
You said it was pretty good.
Just give it a shot, it's good.
Yeah, I'll try it, man, I likethe name, and the concept is
very interesting.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
So the art is super
crisp.
Dude, you're going to, you'regonna, you're gonna love it.
It's.
It's like a mix now that I'veseen, fully seen dan to dan.
Um, it's just this weird mix ofdura rara and dan to dan which
is hard.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
Yeah, those are two
like off the wall yeah they.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
They're completely
opposite directions, but it just
gives those kind of I don'tknow, it's just weird vibes.
Man, it's good though.
Speaker 2 (30:56):
I love it I'll check
it out.
I mean anything with that weirdvibe.
It seems to be a more.
You're seeing it more latelyfor sure.
Well, these are good man, I'mgonna check yours out.
I know I saw trinity blood soI'm not gonna re-watch that, but
I will definitely check out.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
Uh, dead mount, death
play I will also check out
gangsta deal.
Yeah, so there's the deal wetrade off.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
I like it, I like it,
I like it.
So hot yeah, what do you gotfor me this week?
So this one's it's such aloaded question because I really
want to say certain ones, butI'll let you All.
Right, what is the best animeto introduce a non anime fan to
Psychopaths?
So that's actually a reallygreat one.
(31:37):
It depends the person, though, right, because like no, just
straight up psychopath.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
I will argue my case
why Psycho Pass is the best one
to introduce non-anime fans to.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
Because it's very
realistic.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
Point number one
Point number one it's based on
the real world and it's veryrealistic.
There's not a lot of magicityhoo-ha going on, you know.
Second point lot of magicityhoo-ha going on, you know, uh.
Second point there are alreadya lot of police procedurals on
television today and you cantell by their that they're
popular, by the amount of showsthat they keep making, right
(32:12):
yeah csi, csi, new york, um, csi, las vegas, like you've got.
And then you got bones in ci.
The list goes on and on and on.
Right.
It proves how popular thatgenre is.
People love a police procedural.
Sometimes they just love tohate them, but they love a
police procedural, which isexactly what psychopaths is.
(32:33):
So it's going to feelcomfortable.
It's going to feel likesomething they already know.
Right, it's not going to feellike, well, what am I diving
into these animated things?
Is there going to be weirdanime sex?
You know, it takes all of thataway and it just gives you this
level of comfortability becauseyou already know the setup.
Right.
This is a police procedural.
We're following a crew ofpolice officers.
(32:55):
The story goes off the railslater, but that's not the point.
It's that first episode thatneeds to suck you in, because
you know if you can get suckedin by that first episode.
So yeah, I'm going to say handsdown.
Without a doubt, psycho pass isthe number one reference for
anybody that is a non anime fanto get into anime dude, I'm not
even gonna try on this one man, because I think you just killed
(33:16):
it.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
You killed it on this
because that is 100 accurate,
because I want to pick like asuper popular show that is like,
yeah, it pulls you in, but itcould be too much.
I mean, hit me with it, hit mewith anything, I don't care.
No, I mean, and the only reason, like, I'm gonna say this one,
but I in my heart, I don't knowif I actually would do it, just
because if they end up gettingsuper into it which is great,
(33:40):
you've set the bar.
So here, and they're not alwayslike that, there's a lot that
are in this.
So my goat, my, my first thoughtwould have been attack on titan
, because it starts and it blowsup and you don't know what's
going on, but you're like holyshit, and it's a train, it's a
roller coaster, the whole show,absolutely.
But when you're up there, you're starting at a part of
(34:02):
that and then if they try towatch fairy tale or something
who knows Whatever else you pick.
The only other one that I wouldsay would be a pretty good
starting point, because it'srealistic to an extent in the
world that it's in, would beFullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood,
because it's two brothers, it'sa family you can relate.
(34:22):
You kind of see some stuffgoing on yeah, they could do
alchemy but like explains it alittle bit and that's a pretty
good story that has the ups anddowns and can really get someone
in to the genre of like, oh,this was actually really good
and I I did think a little bitabout that because, um, you know
who doesn't love FullmetalAlchemist, but there are people
(34:42):
out there that don't loveFullmetal Alchemist.
That's insane Insanity.
What.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
I've found with
people that don't want to watch
anime at all.
It's usually that they hateeverything related to magic.
That's kind of strange.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
It's weird.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
They also don't want
to watch fantasy related stuff
like Lord of the Rings.
Speaker 2 (35:00):
Okay, so it's like a
thing.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
Okay, yeah, it's like
a thing, they just don't care
about that stuff.
So I don't know Like it's agreat show and yeah, that, and
you're right, it is a loadedquestion.
Of course it's a loadedquestion because you know you
got to ask leading questionslike what are you into?
Do you like to watch showsabout cooking?
You know what I mean?
Yeah, it's totally a loadedquestion.
But that's the point of the hottake, right, you just throw
(35:23):
something out there and you justdo it.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
Yeah, you know, it's
another good one I just thought
of when you're talking aboutlike the realistic part, like
without magic you ever seeerased.
Speaker 1 (35:31):
That one's really
good, it's the only thing again,
when you say erased is eraserwith arnold schwarzenegger no,
no, no, no, it no.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
So you check this one
out.
I won't go into detail too much, but pretty much the kid's
trying to stop a murder and hegoes back in time when he's a
kid.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
And it's like this
whole thing Mystery, the whole,
who did it?
It's actually that wouldprobably be a pretty good one.
That would hook someone prettygood.
That's a good series.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
There you go, man.
Now I'm actually going to haveto check that one out as well.
All right, what do we got nextweek, man?
Next week we'll be talkingabout anime tropes we love and
