CBDCs are no longer just a future threat. In many places, they are already live. And where they aren’t, we practically have them through financial surveillance, frozen bank accounts, and censorable payment platforms.
Meanwhile, in the U.S., many people think Trump’s executive order stopped CBDCs. But the real threat is sneaking in through centralized, surveilled stablecoins. Congress is pushing bills that expand financial control and bring stablecoins under the direct authority of the Federal Reserve. Some in the crypto space are even cheering it on, not realizing they are inviting the very thing they claim to oppose.
