We’re visiting Tedi Serge, Tedi and her sister Sonya Launched Girl Powerful, a youth empowerment program designed to give tween and teen girls the social and emotional learning tools to build a strong sense of self. Girl Powerful’s mission is for all girls to feel seen, valued and heard when they need it the most.
According to DoSomething.org, 7 in 10 girls believe that they are not good enough or don’t measure up in some way, including their looks, performance in school and relationships with friends and family members. Further, by the time a girl reaches the age of 8, her confidence will decline by 30%.
Another study analyzing more than 11,000 9- and 10-year-olds in the United States found that 10% reported engaging in self-harm. Tedi believes Today’s children need mental health tools in order to succeed in the future and thats exact what Girl Powerful is providing. But we can’t just rely on private organizations like girl powerful and its key to invest in affordable health care access so these young people are getting the support they really need across the whole country
