Welcome back to Coffee and Conversation with Recovery Advocate Network. I am your host, Ange, and I welcome you to Episode number 81.
Today's guest is Kurt Schmidt, a Certified Peer Support Specialist and Licensed Master Social Worker. Kurt applies years of experience in the business, technology, and service sectors to provide adequate peer support for those managing mental health and substance use disorders. Coming from a background in personal training, Kurt emphasizes the importance between physical and mental health in recovery.
Kurt started his academic journey at Purdue University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in organizational leadership. From there, he attended Webster University and earned his MBA and Master of Social Work at Missouri State University. While gaining all these achievements, Kurt was also fighting a personal battle with substance use that would forever shape his life.
Struggling with the challenges of addiction, Kurt managed to be successful professionally. Yet, his addiction was becoming more prominent, and warnings from health professionals were a wake-up call to stop his drinking due to damage that was happening to his liver.
His personal and professional achievements emphasize his journey to sobriety. One of his accomplishments is the creation of The Peer Network, a network of certified professionals dedicated to peer recovery support. His company offers others hope, encouragement, and empowerment on their recovery journeys.
Kurt is a loving father to two daughters and husband to Melinda, who plays a critical role in partnership and family in overcoming adversity.
Through all the challenges and obstacles, Kurt inspires others to believe in the possibility of brighter, healthier futures for others.
