Early in recovery, I did not know recovery even existed or was possible. I did not know how to live a sober life. I had to learn. I learned in 12-step meetings from people I did not know, that these individuals were willing to teach me how to live a sober life by sharing their past bad decisions and some of the most embarrassing moments in their lives. Their truths taught me what to and what not to do in recovery. In these rooms, I learned I suffered from a deadly disease, a disease that wanted me dead. A disease called addiction. A disease whose symptoms were it was progressive and warranted jails, institutions, and premature death. A disease that has no cure but treatment is possible. I learned that there was a GOD, a GOD that could and would save me from myself. A GOD that required my submission to his will. I learned that I played a part in a plan created and directed by GOD and all I had to do was play my part. I also learned that I could not change my past however, I could do better. With this mandate, I am given each new day as a new opportunity to just do better. My recovery is my responsibility, I must participate in my own recovery. Today I accept the fact that I suffer from this disease that has no cure and that I need help. I pray for help each and every day from the GOD  of my understanding whom I believe can and will deliver me the help I need when I need it. Listen how Trent explains how acceptance keeps him sober.
