Welcome to Recovery is a Processof Decisions Podcast.
This is Trent Thomas, yourRecovery Peer Support
Specialist.
Tonight's episode is entitled,God's immense capacity for
forgiveness.
(01:45):
Recovery is dependent uponforgiveness.
We ask to be forgiven and thuswe must forgive others,
including and very importantly,ourselves.
In forgiving ourselves, we mustfirst admit all the wrong
decisions we made and thenunderstand all the harm as well
as whom we harmed as a result ofthose bad decisions.
(02:06):
For me, I had to first separatethe emotional attachment I
fostered to the damage I causedto individuals.
I was not actually intent onharming a person, but rather
enacting a bad decision.
All bad decisions harborconsequences.
Part of these consequences isthe effect the decisions have on
(02:27):
people.
In one instance, I stole from afamily member a terrible bad
decision.
The consequence includingdamaging the trust that family
member had in me.
It also caused an emotionalstress scar because that taking
from a family member hurtemotionally.
When we act against a person weknow and who has feelings for
(02:49):
us, particularly trust, itcauses a painful breaking of
that trust bond.
That breakage has an emotionalsting and the breaking of that
string results in a painreaction.
This painful cutting of thisemotional string requires
healing and will leave a scarScars are proof of recovery.
(03:14):
Damage was done which leaves ascar of damage.
The causing of this scarrequires forgiveness for its
causation.
Forgiveness may or may not begiven.
It is entirely upon therecipient of the injury if they
are willing to to forgive.
Forgiveness permits therecipient to move beyond the
(03:35):
emotional damage caused andpermits healing and frees the
recipient's mind from beingstuck in that instance.
Only by forgiving the injurercan one free the mind from being
trapped in the time space whenthe injury occurred.
Only then can the mind be freefor additional or new matters to
(03:56):
occupy that space.
Forgiveness equals freedom.
Freedom to live.
Freedom to move on.
We must also ask for forgivenessfrom God, which is always
forthcoming.
As our spiritual father, he isalways willing to forgive.
For it is impossible for God tohold a grudge or be slighted by
(04:18):
our actions.
God knows all.
God knows the ending from thebeginning.
God knows all the consequencesbefore we even make the
decision.
God cannot ignore sin.
Sin is a sin.
Sin is a decision contrary tothe rules or laws of God.
Sin is a decision opposite toGod's will.
(04:39):
This cannot be ignored andconsequences will be invoked.
Acting contrary to God's lawswill always lead to misery.
Most often we must taste thisproduct and see that it is
bitter.
The bitterness presents a resultthat should not be repeated.
However, consequences in and ofitself is not enough.
(05:00):
Most often As the sin isrepeated, the consequences get
more and more severe.
The eventuality is set as theultimate recourse for sinful
behavior is that it willconclude with the sinner not
being permitted to make anydecisions at all.
This means death.
Premature death is a solution toignoring the laws of God.
(05:24):
Forgiveness for reversing one'sbad decisions carousel is met
with the open arms of God'semail.
God knows what we know not, including our very heart.
God celebrates the returning ofa wayward person to his fold of
lawful followers.
(05:44):
God rejoices when one decides tofollow him.
God's laws and will leads to joyand success.
God promises serenity to hisfollowers.
This does not mean easy, becauselife is hills and valleys, but
it is through faith that hewarrants everything is already
alright.
Trust in God and he will make away from no way.
(06:08):
God's dimension for forgivenessis best highlighted with the
story of the prodigal son.
In that story we read of how ason squandered his inheritance
and ended up working in a hogpen serving slop to hogs.
This son was so hungry he atethe slop that was meant for the
hogs.
Once he had reached his bottomhe returned home.
(06:29):
As he approached his father hisfather ran to his son and
embraced him.
As he did, his son began askingfor forgiveness.
His father was so enthralledwith happiness his son had
returned, he never even heardthe words of his son.
The father had already forgivenhis son.
He forgave his son even beforehe had left.
(06:52):
This exemplifies the forgivenesscapacity of God.
Forgiveness from God is alwaysforthcoming.
We must match this sameforgiveness To forgive ourselves
demonstrates the faith we havein God and his ability to set
events as everything is alreadyalright.
(07:13):
Our faith presents itself as itrelates to God's ability to heal
and initiate recovery.
Recovery begins withforgiveness, forgiveness from
God and forgiveness of oneself.
Forgiveness is mandated andnecessary for recovery.
to begin and be sustained.
