Speaker 1 (00:06):
this is the everyday
podcast for the everyday people.
Guys, welcome back to anotherepisode of r e d.
It's the everyday podcast forthe everyday people and we are
on episode number 117 and wehave some people joining in on
the tikt just started it andeach episode every week is going
to be lived, and one of thebenefits of doing that is being
(00:29):
able to have persons see theshow done in real time and being
able to get those very, veryphenomenal reactions and just
that authentic support thatmakes this show awesome.
Now, I was thinking a lot aboutrelationships.
A lot of people think that Ihave a great relationship with
my significant other, aka thewife, and if you haven't seen
(00:51):
her in my latest YouTube video, please check on my YouTube
channel.
We do a reaction video forFreakier Friday, the brand new
movie that's going to bereleased this August, and one of
the things that people will askme and Kelly is how do we start
our romantic journey, how do weget from friends to dating, to
(01:11):
marriage, et cetera?
Well, it really starts with theproper viewpoint and today I
think I figured it all out likeas well as as much as someone
can figure out love and romance.
So usually people focus on whatthey want to get out of a
relationship, and so onequestion that I asked my bus
(01:32):
aides today is how do peoplemeasure or what is their ruler
for love?
You know, I'm going to explainthat to you guys.
I'm going to be able to clarifywhat that means or give you
some further understanding.
Right, I was raised aparticular way and I was taught
that love is X, y, z, and Istart to date someone whom is
(01:55):
taught something different aboutlove.
They are taught, perhaps, thatlove is A, b, c.
When you get into arelationship with persons who
have this different perspectiveon love, when you get into a
relationship with persons whohave this different perspective
on love, you have to be carefulthat you don't allow your
upbringing and the way that youwere taught how to love someone
dominate how you treat yoursignificant other.
When persons refuse to yield ina relationship, it causes
(02:19):
problems.
So that's how you have thosedynamics where one person puts
in 50% and then the other personis putting in a lesser
percentage or a higherpercentage because of their
viewpoints of what love is.
So in this episode, we aregoing to dive into some of those
areas that kind of make itdifficult for people to have a
(02:42):
successful, whatever it's goingto be down the line.
Here is our theme friendship orromance.
What signals am I receiving?
So here's the scenario youreally like this person of the
opposite sex and you're surethat the feeling is mutual.
After all, you text each otherall the time, you pair off at
(03:04):
gatherings and some of themessages you receive from this
person are downright flirtatious.
So you decide to ask thisindividual where the
relationship is going.
Ask, and you're just trying tobe sure that both of you are on
the same page.
And the reply I view you as afriend, just a friend, and
(03:27):
nothing more.
Well, we're going to examine asto how it feels when something
like that happens, when you arein a situation in which you are
getting mixed signals from theopposite sex, and why it happens
and what you can do about it.
So let's focus on how it feels.
This is what Jasmine says, someone who was in the
(03:50):
circumstance.
I was so angry angry at him andangry at myself.
We had been texting each otherevery day and he showed a real
interest in me.
Naturally, I developed feelingsfor him.
This is what Richard says.
This girl and I hung out a fewtimes it seemed as if we were
(04:13):
double dating them hanging outwith another couple of friends.
It was hard to take when shetold me that she viewed me just
as a friend and when I found outthat she was seeing someone
else all along.
Sometimes that can happen.
You may spend so much time witha member of the opposite sex in
(04:33):
a unique circumstance and youmay begin to reason that this
person has feelings for youbecause you are conveniently
placed together all of the time.
You are conveniently placedtogether all of the time.
Well, if you are expressing orhaving feelings of this
magnitude, what is the bottomline?
When you think that you have aspecial bond with someone and
(04:54):
then you find out that theromance is one-sided, it's only
natural for you to feel angry, embarrassed and even betrayed.
I was devastated when ithappened to me and it really
hurt my feelings, says a youngman named Steven.
It was a while before I couldtrust anyone else.
(05:15):
Well, why is it that thishappens, guys?
Texting and social media makeit easy for you to develop an
emotional attachment to someonewho, in reality, has no romantic
interest in you.
Here are some things that youngpeople say.
To support that quote, oneperson might be genuinely
interested in romance, while theother person just wants someone
(05:39):
to talk to someone, to give himor her a confidence boost.
Well, what's the bottom line?
Well, just as James mentioned, you don't want to make the
mistake of giving affection ormake the mistake of getting
attention for affection.
You don't want to get those twothings confused.
(05:59):
Now, of course, it's easiersaid than done.
One of my favorite principlesto live by is that the heart is
more treacherous and desperatethan anything else, and so it
can cause you to build what wecall a sand castle romance that
washes away the moment yourealize that it existed only in
(06:20):
your imagination.
Only in your imagination.
So there are going to be a fewthings that we discuss that you
can be able to do.
If you are in a circumstance inwhich you've received mixed
signals from a friend and you'veconfronted that friend and now
you're dealing with the falloutor the aftermath, consider four
things.
The first is be objective.
Take a step back and analyzethe relationship.
(06:43):
Here are some viewpointquestions to ask yourself Do I
have solid reasons for thinkingthat this person is treating me
differently from others?
Don't let your emotions hijackyour power of reason.
Sometimes we as human beingsget caught up in the fact that
we want something to happen sobad, so desperately, that when
(07:03):
that thing happens and it's notwhat we thought we're crushed.
That's why our second point isbe discerning, out of all the
signs that make you think youmight be more than friends, pay
special attention to the signsthat make you second guess
yourself.
For example, don't just assumethat because you feel a certain
(07:25):
way about someone, that thefeeling is mutual.
A lot of people get that onetrack mind they think that they
like this person, or they think, rather, that this person likes
them.
And then that first littleglimpse of hope, they grab it
like a leprechaun at the end ofthe rainbow and they just run
with it.
So what quality can be able tohelp you to see if this romantic
(07:47):
emotion that you're seeingportrayed by someone else is
definitely the emotion for you?
Well, it says be patient.
Here Our reference highlightsthe beauty of being patient.
It says until the person saysexplicitly that he or she wants
to get to know you in a romanticway, don't invest more in the
(08:10):
relationship than you can affordto lose.
Now I just want to talk to somepersons on the live for a minute
.
People are coming in and outand this is really important
because a lot of people do this, they go straight to.
A lot of people do this, theygo straight to oh I want to be
able to get to know this person, blah, blah, blah.
(08:34):
And then they just jump inwholeheartedly and the bottom
line is you can't force someoneto like you.
That's fact of life, right.
But the challenge comes in whenpeople start to guess that
person's emotions for them.
I'm a big fan of this and thisis something that I applied in
my real time with my actualcurrent wife.
If the woman did not say thatshe likes me, then it's
impossible for the woman to likeme.
(08:55):
It's as simple as that.
There's no need to second guess.
There's no need for us to go ona little crush spree.
There's no need for us to jumpthe gun.
If the girl did not, or the boyor whomever did not, tell you
that they are interested in youromantically, then you don't
want to get yourself gassed up.
Here is our final point Behonest, there is a time to speak
(09:19):
and if you want to find outwhether someone views you as
more than just a friend, talk itout with that person's friend,
no, wait, that person's cousin?
No, no, no, that's not it.
Talk it out with that person.
So in high school or inelementary school, we have this
fear of rejection which istotally you know.
(09:40):
It's just ridiculous, becauseeveryone gets rejected at some
point in their particular life.
So you don't want to allowyourself to be robbed of growth.
Rejection is a part of life, living and growth.
So discuss the feelings withthe person in a calm and
respectful way.
Don't come up in there tryingto be urban gangster 101 and
(10:03):
trying to swoon this girl ortrying to be perfect in front of
this girl.
But the reality is you have totreat her or him or whatever, as
a human being.
You have to be able tocommunicate thoroughly, and
those skills will help you tohave a successful relationship.
Should something progressbetween you and your friend?
Here's a quote If the feelingsaren't mutual, says a young
(10:27):
woman named Valerie, shouldsomething progress between you
and your friend?
Here's a quote.
If the feelings aren't mutual, says a young woman named Valerie
, it's better to be a littlehurt now than to go on for
months before realizing thatthis person wasn't interested in
the first place.
The bottom line all of us, nomatter whom we are, need to
protect and safeguard our heart.
If you do feel drawn to someone, find out if that person is
(10:48):
drawn to you.
Allowing romantic feelings totake root before then is like
trying to grow a plant on asolid stone.
Isn't that a powerful metaphorthere?
Trying to grow a romanticrelationship without knowing if
that person reciprocates thosefeelings is the equivalent of
trying to grow a plant on solidstone.
(11:11):
If you guys are able to pullthat off, please let me know.
I would love to cover thatstory on the show, but the
reality is you're not growinganything on solid stone.
That's just not the way it'sgoing to work.
But you have to be realistic.
So do you remember as to howyou can be able to transition
that relationship, should itcome up?
If you are having a friendshipwith someone and you are getting
(11:33):
mixed signals, it's vital totake steps to be able to see as
to what the circumstance is.
Be objective, analyze thesituation, be discerning.
Be objective, analyze thesituation, be discerning, be
patient and be honest with thatindividual about your feelings.
This is something that isdefinitely prevalent in schools
(11:53):
today and that's why I decidedto put that as our theme this
week, because a relationship isgoing to be a roller coaster.
It's going to be a lot of upsand downs.
There's not going to be a onemode fits all in a relationship.
However, if you're able toweather the storm, you're able
to endure those difficultcircumstances, you will come off
(12:15):
with much success.
So we wish all of you guys thebest, those of you whom may have
been involved romantically withsomeone or just trying to
figure out as to where thingsare going.
I think that this will be agood thing for you guys to just
play back on this episode andreally be able to sink your
teeth in to what is beingdiscussed.
(12:35):
Now, guys, as always, we have 10stories on this episode that is
going to that are going toleave you feeling a bit
flabbergasted.
This first story, though Idefinitely have to get the
pronunciation of one of thesetowns because we're going to
Brazil.
This is our first internationalstory.
I think this is the only one onthis episode, but I am going to
(12:59):
encourage you to exercise aviewer discretion, because this
is indeed a heavy story.
Well, I hope my Brazilianbrothers and sisters will be
forgiving Guys.
Here is our first story16-year-old pregnant girl found
dead after suspect cut baby fromteen's body.
Again, I do want to warn youthat there is a great deal of
(13:21):
viewer discretion needed forthis story.
A 16-year-old pregnant girl wasfound brutally murdered in
Brazil, with authorities sayinga suspect cut the teenager's
unborn baby out of her womb andplanned to keep the infant.
The civil police of Mato Grossoidentified the teenager as
Emily Batriz Azevedo Sina.
(13:42):
The Specialized Homicide andPersonal Protection Unit said
the suspect coldly confessed andadmitted to planning and
committing the murder.
In Coaba, dhpp said thesuspect's goal was to keep the
(14:02):
teenager's baby and claim it washer own child.
Authorities said they launchedan investigation Wednesday after
the teenager was reportedmissing.
They said she left her home inVarzia Grande when the suspect
offered her the clothing.
Police were contacted when thesuspect and her husband went to
(14:22):
an area hospital with a newbornbaby in her arms, saying she
just gave birth at their home.
That's when employees at thehospital called the police.
The couple was then taken infor questioning.
After hearing the couple andwith information about the
disappearance of the youngpregnant woman, the team from
(14:42):
the DHPP missing persons unitarrived at the residence where
the body was found, authoritiessaid In the statement.
Police said the suspect'sbrother and a friend were
questioned and released.
Police said there was noevidence against them to file a
report.
Dhpp Police Chief Caio FernandoAlvarez Albuquerque also said
(15:05):
while the husband, brother andfriend weren't charged,
authorities are working todetermine if the trio was
involved with the murder, burialor the attempted cover-up.
The investigations continue andall information is being
checked to find evidence thatmay indicate the participation
of other people in the executionof the victim.
(15:25):
The chief said those whoseparticipation was identified
will be duly identified ashaving participated in the crime
.
The suspect said authoritiesremains in custody.
I can't believe the world thatwe live in.
A 16-year-old cut open, buriedand her baby ripped away from
(15:47):
her womb.
People may ask the question whydo persons commit such crimes?
Well, this is a little bit moreextreme than the case in the
Bible of King Solomon, where thetwo women were fighting over a
baby.
The baby was already born andthen another woman was trying to
take possession of a child thatwas not hers.
I guess the reality is womenreally want babies more than I
(16:12):
thought, and it's interestingbecause this story highlights
that some women will stop atnothing to get exactly what they
want.
To the family of this16-year-old victim.
We do express our dearcondolences.
This is indeed a gruesome andtragic way to lose a beloved
(16:35):
loved one.
Now here on the TikTok Live Isee I thought I saw a few
comments coming in People arecoming up and down.
Tiktok is going to continue tocirculate, so we can just jump
right into our next story.
Family frustrated with MSCSafter reporting daughter's
alleged sexual assault atelementary school.
(16:57):
A place meant to be safe forstudents is now at the center of
a serious allegation.
A five-year-old student wasallegedly sexually assaulted at
an elementary school in Cordova.
The alleged assault happened atChimney Rock Elementary School.
The child's parents told Fox 13their daughter is still
traumatized and does not want togo back to school.
(17:19):
Trying to reassure her thateverything will be okay, one of
her parents said through atranslator she is in fear of her
life Every day.
These parents sent theirfive-year-old daughter to
Chimney Rock Elementary inCordova, but in February the
girl's mother noticed somethingunusual about her when she came
(17:41):
home.
She stayed quiet.
She bathed her and noticedsomething in her private areas,
they said the mother said herdaughter told her the alleged
assault happened in the bathroomwith another student.
She immediately took herdaughter to urgent care but the
doctor did not find anythingwrong.
The next day they took her tothe police and that's when they
(18:03):
did a profound check everywherearound her.
The parent's translator saidthat is when they got the
results that she was sexuallyabused.
The parents told Fox 13 that thesocial worker had to report the
incident to the Department ofChild Services.
They said they went to theelementary school to find out
more information about whathappened to their daughter, yet
(18:26):
they said the principal was notaware of the alleged assault.
That was when they reached outto the school district, but the
family said the district did nottake immediate action.
The parents also told Fox 13that they received a notice of
allegations letter from thedistrict on March 10th, a month
after the incident, stating MSCStakes reports of alleged sexual
(18:51):
harassment seriously.
Thus there is a formal processfor investigation and resolution
of such allegation.
Fox 13 reached out to MemphisShelby County schools to find
answers about the incident.
The school district sent thefollowing statement this is an
ongoing investigation involvingindividuals of certain ages.
We are unable to provide anycomments at this time.
(19:16):
I can imagine what it's like forparents to have to deal with
the circumstances that surroundstheir children and then trying
to balance that off inconnection with the school and
their responsibility.
It's not easy.
There was a story that Icovered on my episode on my show
last week about a parent takingmatters into their own hands
(19:37):
and beating up a kid on theschool bus, and a lot of people
are going back and forth on theshort stating that it should be
this, it should be that.
The problem that I have withthat story is a parent is
responsible for their child.
If they take matters into theirown hands and they're brought
to justice by the police, thenthe reality is their child is
(19:57):
going to suffer because now youhave a charge to deal with as a
parent.
Parents, as hard as it is, it'svital to continue to be patient
and diligent when sorting outschool matters regarding your
children.
In our following story, we aredealing with two unique
(20:18):
circumstances.
This circumstance, rather, ismentioned a lot on this show,
but I will tell you that thisstory is quite surprising.
Broward High School basketballcoach accused of having sex with
a minor.
A basketball coach at Nova HighSchool was released from jail
(20:40):
over the weekend afterauthorities said he is accused
of having sex with a minorDequan Andre Sierra, 29, of
Hollywood, was taken intocustody Friday by Broward
Sheriff's Office deputies fromthe Weston District.
According to detectives, bsosaid deputies responded to a
possible sexual battery callinvolving a minor just before 5

am Friday.
Authorities said that the 911caller told BSO that he found
his 17-year-old daughter in theback of a minivan with Sierra
and that they were doingsomething sexual nearly a block
away from his home.
An arrest affidavit obtained byLocal 10 News states that the
victim told deputies that sheand Sierra had sex.
(21:26):
Sierra appeared in Broward BondCounty Court Saturday, where a
judge found probable cause andset his bond at $50,000, which
he has since posted.
Jail records show Sierra isfacing one count of solicitation
of a minor by an authoritativefigure and one count of unlawful
sexual activity with a person16 or 17 years old.
(21:50):
According to the school'swebsite, sierra worked as a
school monitor and boysbasketball coach.
Authorities have not confirmedwhether the victim is a student.
The school is located at 3600College Avenue in Davie.
Detectives also confirmed thatSierra is a father of a

(22:12):
Broward County Public Schoolsreleased a statement to Local 10
News on Monday.
As part of his bond conditions.
Sierra has been ordered to haveno contact with the victim or
any minors.
Time and time again, thesestories appear on the show and
my heart goes out to parentsbecause you're trying to
(22:33):
navigate this darkened world, and the people that your
children trust, the people thatyou leave in the care of your
children, or you leave yourchildren in their care.
Rather, they're the ones doingthese heinous crimes.
I can't imagine what it's liketo raise a child in this world
today.
You parents, I do want to takea minute.
(22:54):
I want to take this minute toaddress you parents.
Although it is difficult, andalthough there are hardships and
there are difficulties, pleaseknow that your hard work is not

Our following story rings thesame way as the previous story
Norristown middle school teachercharged with attempting to
(23:38):
sexually assault student.
A middle school teacher isfacing several charges after
officials say he is accused ofattempting to sexually assault a
young student.
This is an inactive case withinthe Montgomery County District
Attorney's Office.
John Richards, 57, of NewtonSquare, was arrested on felony
(23:59):
charges of attemptedinstitutional sexual assault,
unlawful contact with a minorand other charges.
On Monday, march 17,.
Officials say a Norristownpolice detective responded to
Bloxon Middle School afterreceiving information from a
Norristown school resourceofficer and the school principal
about a teacher's inappropriatecontact with a student.
(24:21):
Upon investigating, officialsfound that Richards, an 8th
grade teacher at Bloxon MiddleSchool, called a 13-year-old
female student to his desk atthe back of the classroom to
show her a typed message on hiscell phone, which was concealed
from the rest of the class byhis open laptop.
According to police, themessage said that Richards
(24:42):
wanted to kiss her two timesduring an upcoming field trip
that he was chaperoning.
The message then said let meknow yes or no before he have to
get off the bus.
Once the young girl returned toher desk, officials say she
immediately contacted her father, the principal and the school
(25:04):
resource officer to report theincident.
Upon further investigation, norristown police later reviewed
Richard's cell phone anddiscovered a second message to
the 13-year-old girl which saidthat came out all wrong.
I'm sorry for demandinganything.
I have no right.
Came out all wrong.
I'm sorry for demandinganything I have no right.
When I see you, my heart skipsa beat.
(25:24):
When you are around, I findmyself staring without meaning
to.
I wonder what your lips tastelike and I hope to God there's a
chance for me to find out.
I don't know what else to say.
Besides, I think you're amazing.
Richard turned himself in toNorristown police Wednesday
(25:46):
morning.
He was charged with felonyattempted institutional sexual
assault, attempted solicitationfor institutional sexual assault
and unlawful contact with aminor sexual offense, as well as
a misdemeanor charge ofcorruption of minor offense, as
well as a misdemeanor charge ofcorruption of minor, endangering
the welfare of a child andattempted indecent assault of
(26:07):
person less than 16 years old.
Richards was arraigned by ajudge who set bail at $10,000
cash bail with additionalconditions of no contact with
the victims or minors, withadditional conditions of no
contact with the victims orminors.
A preliminary hearing isscheduled for 10 am on March 27,
(26:30):
2025.
The case will be prosecuted byAssistant District Attorney
Bradley Deckel, a member of theFamily Protection Unit.
Stories like this just make mefeel uneasy.
I can't believe that teacherstoday are still carrying out
(26:51):
these thoughts, these wickedthoughts you know, on these
minor children.
I will say that it'scommendable that the girl went
to her father immediately andtold him of these allegations,
because now you have thisteacher.
This teacher is 57 years oldand he's how do I say this
tactfully on live.
He is sending theseinappropriate advances to a 13
(27:16):
year old student in hisclassroom.
How would you feel about thatas a parent?
That seems like a sillyquestion, but these are the
questions that parents have toask themselves when dealing with
the public school system.
Now I have plenty of friendswhom are parents now, and many
of them have decided tohomeschool for this very reason.
But the sad reality is thesethings can happen on any
(27:39):
occasion.
So, parents, be diligent, continue to do your best to
educate your children and helpthem to feel that support and
love from you, and whencircumstances like this happen,
try your best not to blame thechild, but help them to see that
they did the best that theycould in the circumstance and
how you can be able tostrengthen them moving forward
for the future.
(28:01):
In our following story we'redealing with a degree of
violence.
Violence is still continuing tobe a constant theme in the
school systems, definitely withthe younger ones, but in this
particular story we're dealingwith two older ones 19-year-olds
arrested for beating teacher atDillard High School in Fort
(28:22):
Lauderdale.
Two Fort Lauderdale studentswere arrested after they
allegedly attacked a teacher attheir school in Fort Lauderdale.
Javis McClover and RoderickMcQueen, both students at
Dillard High School, made verbalthreats to a teacher and then
intentionally launched asynchronized physical attack on
(28:42):
him.
Police said they are 19 yearsold.
Both men were arrested onThursday and charged with
battery on a public or privateeducation employee.
The teacher reportedly droppedto the ground as McClover and
McQueen punched him in the faceand head.
He suffered swelling andbruising and reported back pain.
(29:03):
After the attack, schoolsecurity staff had to pull the
suspects away from the victim tostop the beating.
An arrest report states Onestudent who witnessed the fight
said the teacher had a historyof saying challenging things to
students and that the teachersaid something to the pair to
provoke them.
Nbc 6 has reached out toBroward County Public Schools
(29:29):
for a statement and to see howthe teacher is doing.
Both suspects were ordered tostay away from the victim and
not to return to the high school.
Mcqueen was released on his ownrecognizance, but McClover's
bond was set at $15,000.
When his defense attempted toask for a reduced bond because
(29:49):
McClover was on track tograduate and his mother would be
unable to afford his bond.
The judge had some harsh words, counsel, he and another
individual, without any provocprovocation, walked up and
started punching a teacher inthe face, beating him.
The judge said he's a danger tothe community period $15,000
(30:12):
bond.
Have a good day.
Unquote.
When you take matters into yourown hands, you leave yourself
at the mercy of the judge.
Now, I don't know what thisteacher did or said to these
young boys, and I can't begin toeven back up one person or the
other in connection with thisstory.
(30:32):
But what I can tell you, guys,is this that teacher will not be
in any trouble for verballyexpressing things to these kids,
but these boys right here, they've got a long road ahead of
them because they took mattersinto their own hands.
We're hoping that this mattergets rectified and that the
(30:53):
teacher makes a well recoveryduring this very, very difficult
time, and that the teachermakes a well recovery during
this very, very difficult time.
In our following story we arefinding ourselves down that path
of one joke too many gone toofar.
But I do appreciate, though, how this high school decided to
handle the problem versus nottaking accountability for their
(31:14):
actions.
Lbusd apologizes for disturbingand offensive photo taken in
Cabrillo High School gym.
A picture of students spellingout a racial slur in the
Cabrillo High School gym hasprompted outrage and an apology
from the Long Beach UnifiedSchool District.
The photo, which multiplepeople shared with the Long
(31:36):
Beach Post, shows a row ofstudents.
The first two are wearingshirts with the letter I and a
heart symbol on them.
Six students standing next tothem had shirts with one letter
each that spelled out a pluralversion of the N-word spelled
with one G.
Students and parents begancirculating the photo on social
(31:58):
media this week, many of themexpressing outrage and concern.
Some questioned how the photowas allowed to be taken in a
campus facility.
Cabrillo High School and theLBUSD issued a joint statement
Thursday night denouncing thedisturbing and offensive photo
as unacceptable.
The school district said it wasworking with all relevant
(32:23):
parties to ensure accountability.
The photo was taken during arecent senior assembly.
According to Omar Verduzcu ofCalifornians for Justice, a
racial justice organization thatoperates a club on campus, it
wasn't immediately clear whotook the photo or where it was
(32:43):
originally posted.
The LBUSD on Monday declined torespond to those or other
questions from the Long BeachPost, stating that the incident
is still under investigation andciting a need for student and
staff confidentiality.
The district said immediatesteps are being taken to address
the situation.
(33:04):
We ask that all members of ourschool community be mindful of
the harm that sharing suchimages can cause.
The district wrote In thestatement.
Lbusd also encouraged familiesto have conversations at home
about the significance oftreating others with dignity and
(33:25):
respect.
I'm not sure as to how thesephotos got to where they got,
but dignity and respect issomething that is so far gone.
People don't value human lifethe way they used to before, and
I find that is the realchallenge with these stories A
(33:45):
lot of the times.
And you don't have to be areligious person, you don't have
to be a Catholic, christian, aJew, whatever the circumstance A
lot of the times.
If you would just apply basiccommon sense and basic human
logic and reasoning, you wouldgo much further.
You would go much further inlife.
Now, last week, on our episodelast week's episode we dealt
(34:09):
with the 12-year-old girl whomwas killed by a runaway vehicle.
There was a braking malfunctionor a mechanical malfunction
vehicle.
There was a braking malfunctionor a mechanical malfunction,
and now there's an update inconnection with that story and
how persons in her community aregrieving.
Here's that story 12-year-oldmiddle school student killed by
runaway SUV laid to rest.
(34:31):
We want to express ourcondolences yet again to the
families and friends surroundingthis hardship and tragedy.
Family and friends say tearfulgoodbye to a Washington Middle
School student after she waskilled by a runaway SUV.
This, as their Ethiopiancommunity demands Seattle
(34:52):
leaders take action.
The 12-year-old WashingtonMiddle School student was laid
to rest amid the sobs of herparents, surviving, sister,
family and friends.
Her family and their communityare now calling on city leaders
to do more.
The action indeed the Ethiopiancommunity would like to see is
(35:14):
the arrest of the parent whosevehicle allegedly rolled into
this 12-year-old, killing heroutside her school as her
schoolmates watched in horror.
It was almost unbearable forthe mother of 12-year-old Arsema
Baraku, forced to say goodbyeto her precious daughter, her
husband trying to comfort herwhile dealing with his own grief
(35:36):
.
On Thursday, march 6th, arcemawas outside with her schoolmates
at Washington Middle Schoolduring second lunch.
A parent allegedly parked anSUV in a no-parking zone and
left it.
Eyewitnesses say the unattendedvehicle rolled down 20th Place
South and struck Arcema, killingher instantly.
Last week the family sharedtheir concerns, first with KIRO
(36:02):
7.
They were also upset withSeattle Public School
Superintendent Brent Jones.
He spoke to reporters at thescene but had not yet spoken to
them.
That has apparently changed.
Jones was spotted at the churchservice for Arcema and,
according to a family spokesman, the district provided this
(36:22):
school bus and van for hergrieving friends and family.
Sabrina Burr, the SeattleCouncil PTSA co-president, says
the parent who drove the SUV andtheir child need support too.
The SUV and their child needsupport too.
So my hope and prayer isSeattle Public Schools will be
(36:43):
intentional about this wholeschool community in a
restorative way, burr said.
But Arsima's family and friendswant the driver in custody.
No further updates inconnection with this particular
story other than the fact thatthis family is still dealing
with this grief and thishardship.
And I know that it's easy topoint fingers at persons and the
(37:05):
reality is, even if this personis brought to what the family
sees or seeks to be as a form ofjustice, it's still going to be
a long road of grief for thisfamily.
We do extend our condolencesyet again to the Burkew family
and we hope that you're going toget that support from your
community, people who love youand loved your daughter, people
(37:27):
who are going to support you tothe very best of their ability.
Now, in this next particularstory.
I couldn't believe the contentof this story, but I do think
that this will be quitesomething for my viewers.
Student left unconscious afterfight in Colton Middle School
(37:47):
classroom.
Some Inland Empire MiddleSchool parents said they are
outraged after video footageshows a violent fight between
students and an eighth gradeclassroom, leaving one student
unconscious.
The fight occurred on March10th at J Hugh Middle School in
Colton.
Racial slurs can be heard inthe back of the video and the
(38:08):
girl who was left unconsciouswas a black student.
She and I were getting wet withwater.
She told him to stop.
He got mad, got her waterbottle and they started fighting
, said Rosemary Hildago Jehu, middle School student, following
the water splashes.
Video footage appears to showthe girl throwing a laptop at
(38:31):
the boy, who then proceeds tothrow the girl down on a desk
and knocks her unconscious.
The girl was seen throwing ametal object several times at
the boy prior to the video.
According to witnesses, duringa news conference on Friday,
some parents expressed worriesfor their children's safety at
the school.
Since the incident occurred ina classroom with a teacher
(38:54):
present, the incident is beinginvestigated by Colton Police
and immediate action was takenby the teacher in the classroom,
according to the Rialto SchoolUnified District.
The Rialto Unified SchoolDistrict said in a statement
that it acted promptly andcontacted the parents of the
students involved whileproviding medical aid.
(39:18):
These things do happen in schooland parents have to be more
realistic as to when thesethings happen.
We can't really blame theschool or the teacher, because a
teacher jumping into the mix ofthat very tense circumstance
could have made things 10 timesworse.
Circumstance could have madethings 10 times worse.
(39:41):
So the reality of it, parents,is that you have to really
strive your best to anticipateall of the things that could
happen in school with yourchildren.
It's nice to know that theschool didn't try to cover up
the circumstance, but they dideverything in their power to
give practical help as wasneeded.
(40:02):
We wish the student that wasinjured a well recovery and we
hope that things are going to betaken care of in a way that
will leave the victim's parentsfeeling dignified and ease of
conscience regarding their childattending that school in the
near future.
Now, oftentimes on the showguys, we're still just traveling
(40:25):
through that theme, andviolence is something that is
going to continue as long asthere are humans on this earth.
This next story takes place inNew Jersey.
Now, as you guys know, this isa New Jersey-based podcast.
I live here in New Jersey andso when New Jersey stories come
to my desk I feel as though it'smy personal honor Nay, it's my
(40:47):
personal duty to be able touncover said stories.
A new Milford High Schoolstudent stable after being
stabbed in parking lot attack.
Two have been arrested.
A New Milford High Schoolstudent is in stable condition
this morning after being stabbedin the chest outside the school
Monday afternoon.
(41:07):
The Bergen County Prosecutor'sOffice said police responded to
a large fight in the schoolparking lot on River Road around
3.15 pm.
Parking lot on River Roadaround 3.15 pm, finding the
victim while the suspects fled.
Two people are now in custodyand the case is being
(41:29):
investigated as an attemptedhomicide.
Mayor Michael Petrino confirmedthe victim is a student but
believes the others involvedwere not affiliated with the
school.
He stressed that the incidentwas isolated and that the school
remains safe, noting that hisown daughters attend.
He also said there are griefcounselors available today as
classes resume as normal?
(41:51):
Not much in connection with thisstory.
There was a student stabbed inthe back in this New Milford
classroom.
I find it interesting, though, because New Jersey is really
strict.
I'm not saying that thesethings don't happen in our state
, but it makes you wonder whatthe surrounding circumstances
were regarding this particularincident.
(42:13):
So how can you avoid somethinglike this happening in school?
Well, I'm going to be asblatantly honest and realistic
with you guys as possible.
There's no way to avoid acts ofviolence, but there are steps
that you can take to protectyourself as students.
(42:33):
Encourage my viewers, listeners, subscribers, et cetera, when
dealing with the high schoolelements or middle school
elements, is to be aware.
When you are aware of yoursurroundings, and you are aware
of the circumstances surroundingyour neighborhood or where you
grow up or where you go toschool at, you can protect
(42:55):
yourself a lot better by justexercising some vital street
smarts.
Now, obviously, street smartsis not something that's taught
in a curriculum or in a school, but it's just that mentality of
safety coupled into common sense, right?
So, for example, if you knowthat you're going to be left
after school by yourself, givesomeone a heads up.
(43:16):
Give someone a heads up, letsomeone know where you're going
to be at.
That's not the action of a punk, it's just you being proactive.
When you have thesecircumstances like, for example,
let's just say you thinksomeone's going to jump you
after school, don't challengethe people.
Get back up.
Call somebody, let somebodyknow what's up.
Get that support that you needso that you can be able to avoid
(43:37):
these terrible outcomes.
I'm very pleased to report thatthe student is alive.
The student did not meet afatality, but it could have been
a lot worse.
In this next story we're goinginto the New York City high
school and it's just that samepattern of violence.
You just wonder are thesethings going to get better or
(44:00):
they're just going to continueto get worse and worse and worse
?
Nyc student 18 stabbed in theback near Manhattan high school
during dismissal.
An 18 year old student wasstabbed in the back near his
Manhattan high school duringdismissal on Monday.
Police and sources said thevictim, a student at Martin
(44:20):
Luther King High School, wasknifed on West 56th Street and
10th Avenue around 3.02 pm.
According to the NYPD, theattack unfolded about 10 blocks
south of the student's school.
School safety agents mere yardsaway at Independence High
School reportedly saw thestudent in distress.
(44:41):
Sources added the teen wastaken to Mount Sinai,
morningside in stable condition.
A person of interest is incustody, but it is not clear
what connection they had to thevictim or the school.
The NYPD said Monday night thisstory was a brief update.
(45:03):
There is not much detailsurrounding this particular
story, but it's just one ofthose things that just make you
feel eerie or unsettled thatsomeone there are people out
there just bent on doing harm toother person's life, like they
just have no regard for thelives of other persons, and I
(45:26):
find that to be sad because itreally just highlights people's
mentality today.
You would like to think thatthe world is going to be you
know one way, or that the worldisn't as bad as it's portrayed
through the news, but thereality of the circumstances,
this world is pretty chaotic andthere are a lot of
(45:48):
circumstances that can leave youfrightened if you are not
careful.
In this following story, we'regoing to examine just how
frightening things have becomein the school system.
Colorado school officials couldface charges after falsely
claiming student was homeless soshe could live with teacher.
The Jefferson County Sheriff'sOffice in Colorado has launched
(46:11):
a criminal investigation atColumbine High School.
At Columbine High School itcomes after a CBS Colorado
investigation found schoolofficials falsely claimed a
student was homeless so shecould move in with a teacher.
But that may not be, or may nothave been, the only motivation.
Jefferson County receiveshundreds of thousands of dollars
(46:33):
for students who are homeless.
The district insists thedecision had nothing to do with
money.
But the more homeless studentsa school district has, the more
funding it's eligible for.
The girl's mother believes thedistrict used her daughter for
financial gain.
We aren't identifying the momto protect the privacy of her
(46:54):
other kids.
This is not a story.
This is a nightmare.
The mom told CBS Colorado'sSean Boyd Three years ago.
She learned Columbine HighSchool teachers and counselors
and even the principal had comeup with a plan to help her
daughter run away from home.
(47:14):
This was deliberate, it wascalculated, it was intentional.
She added it may also becriminal.
School district employees filedor filled out a federal form
claiming the girl was homeless, when they knew she wasn't even
discussing in emails how toconceal it from her parents by
not using their contactinformation.
(47:36):
The mom says she found out whenshe was cleaning her daughter's
room.
If I would not have found thispaperwork underneath her bed, I
would have had no idea that thiswas happening behind our back.
Jeffco Public Schools claimsthe form is not a declaration of
homelessness and generates norevenue through any sources for
(47:57):
Jeffco Public Schools.
But the form itself askswhether a student is an
unaccompanied homeless youth orunaccompanied self-supporting
youth at risk of homelessness.
While the student's form wassigned in April 2022, it was
dated July of 2021, the start ofthe Jeffco's physical year.
(48:18):
The district says the form ispre-typed each school year.
According to the ColoradoDepartment of Education, jeffco
Public Schools has received atleast $405,000 for homeless
students since 2022.
The mom believes Jeffco Schoolsmade money at the expense of
her daughter's safety.
It's sickening.
(48:40):
She added An investigator hiredby the district-found Columbine
teacher, leanne Kearney, wasgrooming the minor and had asked
a colleague about the processfor declaring a student homeless
as early as 2019.
The mom says she texted Kearneynot to contact her daughter
after discovering thousands oftexts and phone calls between
(49:02):
them.
When she alerted the principalat Columbine, she says he told
her that Kearney helps kidsnavigate their sexuality.
The mom was incredulous.
This story is powerful, to saythe least.
Kearney didn't respond to arequest for an interview, but I
(49:23):
just can't believe just how farpeople will go in an attempt to
get money.
Now, sources claim that thiswoman was trying to help this
student, but there's no supportor evidence for that, that kind
of statement or that kind ofcircumstance.
(49:43):
I can't imagine, though, whatyou parents are dealing with.
It's not.
It's not easy, guys.
It's not easy, but it can bedone if you stay focused,
support your children as bestyou can, parents, and look for
ways to help them to see thatyou have their best interest at
heart.
It might be that this younggirl thought that this was her
only avenue out financially, andso it really is unsettling to
(50:09):
know that a teacher would gothat far in that regard.
If anything else comes inconnection with this story, we
