The invisible battle of mental health touches more lives than many realize. In this powerful exploration of Mental Health Awareness Month, we dive deep into what mental health truly means beyond the alarming statistics—one in eight people worldwide struggle with mental health disorders, with anxiety and depression rates shooting up 26% and 28% respectively since the pandemic began.

Mental health isn't just the absence of illness; it's about functioning well, coping with life's pressures, and finding genuine satisfaction in your daily existence. We break down harmful misconceptions, emphasizing that anxiety and depression aren't simply weaknesses to "get over," but legitimate medical conditions that disrupt thinking, emotional regulation, and the ability to handle everyday responsibilities.

For those supporting loved ones through mental health struggles, we offer genuine insights into recognizing warning signs—personality changes, disrupted sleep patterns, or persistent distress that signals professional help might be needed. While some hesitate to pursue therapy, appropriate treatment can dramatically improve quality of life for those suffering, minimizing symptoms and restoring functionality.

Modern life creates endless obstacles to maintaining good mental health. From the financial barriers to healthy eating to work schedules that leave little room for exercise or self-care, these societal pressures compound existing challenges. Through real stories and practical perspectives, we examine how these factors affect everyday people and what can be done to navigate them successfully.

This episode marks the beginning of our Mental Health Awareness Month series, where we'll continue exploring practical strategies for protecting and strengthening mental health. Whether you're personally struggling or supporting someone who is, subscribe now to gain valuable insights that could transform your approach to mental wellbeing and help you provide more effective support during life's most challenging moments.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
This is the Everyday Podcast for the Everyday People
Guys.
Welcome back to another episodeof RED.
It's the Everyday Podcast forthe Everyday People Guys.
We are jumping into episode 124with the everyday people in

(00:28):
mind.
For those of you who may not beaware, this month is dedicated
to those individuals who may besupporting a relative or who may
have a friend whom is dealingwith a particular setback in
life.
As it were, it's Mental HealthAwareness Month.

(00:49):
Now, throughout this next fewweeks, we're going to dive into
topics specifically for thosewhom are battling mental health
issues, such as anxiety,depression, etc.
And we're going to be able toprovide practical tips for those
who may have a friend goingthrough such mental difficulties
, or if you have a relativethat's going through a certain

(01:12):
mental difficulties.
I will tell you, guys, thatthis week has been extremely
long.
It's only Thursday, but thisweek is dragging.
It's dragging, and the more Ipay attention to persons at work
or individuals I come incontact with on a daily basis,
the more I see that individualstoday are hard-pressed.
A lot of people are dealingwith anxieties, a lot of people

(01:36):
are dealing with emotional orturmoil, disadvantages in life,
setbacks emotionally, etc.
And so it makes sense thatsecular persons would dedicate
the month of May to mentalhealth awareness.
Well, is there a need or hasthere been a change or spike in

(01:57):
connection with a worldwidemental health crisis?
Notice what several persons sayin connection with mental
health and their circumstances.
I always have a measure ofanxiety, even if I'm just
sitting by myself in a room whenI feel extraordinarily well.
I become apprehensive.

(02:17):
I instinctively know whatfollows a high is a plunge to a
moody low.
I try to take it one day at atime, but sometimes several days
attack me at once.
Can you relate to any of thoseexpressions, perhaps from your
own personal circumstances, orperhaps from someone that you

(02:39):
may know?
These individuals whom werejust mentioned are individuals
who struggle with mental health.
Well, if you or someone thatyou know is struggling, or
someone that you care about isstruggling with these
circumstances, what can be done?
Well, the first thing we wantto assure you on this episode is
that you are not alone.

(03:01):
Many people today are affectedby mental health issues, whether
their own or those of theirloved ones.
Me in particular.
I have an older sister whodeals with mental health
difficulties, and so, from timeto time, it can be difficult to
persevere such circumstances.
Without a doubt, you and I bothcan agree that we are living in

(03:24):
critical times, and today'scircumstances are hard to deal
with more than ever before.
For example, one studycalculated that worldwide, about
one in eight people struggleswith a mental health disorder.
In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemicresulted in an increase in

(03:45):
anxiety and major depressivedisorders of about 26 and 28%
progressively.
Our mental health, however, cannot be defined by statistics
Now, although there has been anincrease in anxieties and
depression since the pandemic,we can't measure our
circumstances that way.

(04:05):
Rather, it's about how you andyour loved ones feel and how you
live your lives on a day-to-daybasis.
Well, for those who may beunaware, we're going to discuss
just briefly what mental healthis.
Good mental health is a stateof well-being where you feel

(04:28):
good and can function well.
You can cope with normal stress, work productively and feel
satisfied with life.
Now, on the contrary, a mentalhealth disorder is not the
result of a personal weakness.
Contrary to popular beliefs, anxiety is not just something

(04:48):
you can get over.
Depression is not justsomething that can be pushed to
the side, but it is a medicalcondition that causes
significant distress anddisrupts a person's thinking,
emotional control and behavior.
It can often upset a person'sability to relate to others and
to handle the daily demands ofeveryday life.

(05:10):
It can affect any persons ofany age, whether it be a culture
, race, tribe, religion, educational background or income
level.
Yes, having these issues ofmental health is not limited to
a particular group of people, sowhere is their help available?

(05:31):
Well, if you or your loved oneexperiences significantly
noticeable changes inpersonality, disrupted sleep
patterns or eating patterns, orprolonged distress, anxiety or
sadness, it could be that theremay be a need to seek
professional assistance and toidentify and treat the root

(05:53):
cause of these up-changingemotions.
You know, a lot of people todayshy away from therapy.
They think that it's somethingthat is a waste of time.
I've heard people say thattherapy is just a gimmick.
They tend to compare theirtherapy experiences or
therapeutic experiences withmovies and TV shows, etc.
But there is a very, verypowerful principle that brings

(06:19):
me a great deal of comfort whenanalyzing my entire outlook.
It's a principle that is foundmany, many thousands of years
ago and basically it highlightsthat healthy people do not need
a physician, but those who areill do, those struggling with
health challenges who receiveappropriate medical therapy and

(06:39):
medication, can do much tominimize their symptoms and can
be helped to live a productiveand fulfilling life.
It is wise for such ones not todelay treatment if the symptoms
are serious or prolonged.
Now, throughout this series onthis podcast, we are not going
to endorse a particular medicaltreatment and we're not going to

(07:01):
push any opinions, thoughts, bias, bias, etc.
But rather the goal in thisnext few episodes is to let
people become more aware of thecircumstances regarding a mental
health.
You know, it is very difficultto live a happy and healthy life
today, mainly becauseeverything that's arranged right

(07:21):
now is working counterintuitiveto one's goals.
For example, in the country ofAmerica, people want to eat
healthier, but the pricing offood doesn't make that possible.
There may be persons who wantto get more exercise in their
daily routine, but their workschedule does not allow them to
do so.
Well, in this next series ofepisodes, we're going to be able

(07:44):
to focus on ways that we cantake positive steps to protect,
analyze and strengthen ourmental health and, in connection
with Mental Health AwarenessMonth, for those of you who have
family members who arestruggling, there are going to
be practical tips that you toocan follow to be able to support
your families during theirdifficult times.

(08:06):
We wish all of you guys a wellmonth of May and we hope that
you guys are enduring, thatyou're going to be able to
progress, moving forward, andthat some of the themes selected
on this show can really be ableto fortify and strengthen you
guys for the future days andtimes ahead.
And strengthen you guys for thefuture days and times ahead.

(08:38):
Now, in harmony with everyepisode, we do have a lineup of
stories that are just powerful.
I will say and I feel like Isay this every week that this
set of stories is the worst thatwe've seen on this show, and
it's true.
Each week, these stories becomemore progressively worse From
young people in school beingbullied, to school violence, to
parents not knowing how to guidetheir children.

(09:00):
Today, there is a great deal, agreat need for comfort, support
, love and endurance, and so,throughout this episode, I hope
that you guys will be able tobenefit from these stories,
learn lessons from theseunforeseen occurrences and be
able to move forward duringdifficult and distressful times.

(09:23):
Here's our first story Highschool tennis star killed by
suspected drunk driver.
Just months after family losthome in Palisades Fire, a star
high school tennis player whowas forced to relocate after his
family's home burned down inthe Palisades Fire, was run down
and killed by a suspected drunkdriver.

(09:44):
According to reports andauthorities, braun Levy, 18, was
fatally struck while walkingwith a friend down a boulevard
in Manhattan Beach at 1 am,sunday, just a month before he
was due to graduate from LoyolaHigh School.
According to the Los AngelesTimes, driver Jania Belt, 33,

(10:07):
was charged with murder anddriving under the influence for
the lethal crash.
Mb News reported Levy waskilled just a month after his
family relocated to the areaafter losing their home in the
wildfires that devastated hugeswaths of Los Angeles.
In January, the LA Timesreported the teen, who recently

(10:28):
moved up the national tennisranks, was honored by his
classmates at a tear-filledcandle vigil Sunday night.
Braun was a shining presence inour Loyola family, bringing
light, joy and inspiration toeveryone he touched.
Loyola High School PrincipalJamal Adam told students and

(10:49):
staff in an email.
Levi Levy's social media wasalso flooded with heartfelt
tributes.
The best friend a kid could askfor.
One post said Levy was set toattend the University of
Virginia in the fall.
The outlet continues to add heis survived by his parents and

(11:11):
his sister, jania Belt, is beingheld without bail at this
current moment.
Kabc has stated there are timesthat people will ask me a
certain question.
That caused me to think.
When I was on TikTok Liverecently, someone asked me if
someone handed me a box ofeverything that I've lost in my

(11:34):
life, what would I look forfirst?
And I asked the person could itbe a relative that I've lost in
death?
And they said sure.
And I told them it would be myyounger brother, lost and deaf.
And they said sure, and I toldthem it would be my younger
brother.
And the reason for that isbecause when my brother was
killed there was so much timelost, there were so many things

(11:56):
that I didn't get the chance tosay to him and that really had
an effect on me.
I can't imagine the devastationthat the Levy family is feeling
knowing that their 18-year-oldson, brother, cousin, nephew,
etc.
Was killed by a drunk drivercarelessly.
On behalf of the RED team here,we want to extend our

(12:18):
condolences to the family sothat they can be able to get the
comfort and support they needin order to make this road of
grief a success.
In the following story we'regoing to examine school violence
Now, because TikTok has laws inplace.
I'm not able to upload thevideo of this story, but I will

(12:40):
try my best to get you guys alink so that you can be able to
see this video in real time.
Disturbing cell phone videocaptures violent brawl at South
Miami Senior High School.
Cbs News Miami obtained anexclusive cell phone video that
showed a violent brawl fromFriday morning outside South
Miami Senior High School.

(13:00):
The video may be difficult forsome people to watch, as the
25-second clip taken by a CBSNews Miami viewer shows a brutal
attack that the school systemsaid happened Friday morning.
It also showed two students ontop of two other students and

(13:22):
pummeling them with their fistsas they are on the ground, call
someone.
A voice screams out in thevideo.
A Miami-Dade County publicschool spokeswoman called this
an unusual incident and said noone was seriously injured.
She said it is not known whatprompted this brawl.
Cbs News Miami blurred theirfaces because they are minors.

(13:46):
Karista Carraway, the mother ofa ninth grade student at the
school, said she has safetyconcerns.
The school district spokeswomansaid that they are aware of the
cell phone video and said thatschool administrators and school
police responded swiftly toaddress the situation.
They also added that thestudents involved are being

(14:08):
disciplined following thestudent code of conduct.
Well, the video speaks foritself.
There's one thing that I willalways tell my audience when
these stories come through mypodcast channel this is a
snippet of context.
This is only a piece of thegreater puzzle.

(14:28):
In order for us to get thefacts and identify what really
happened in this school, we needthe full picture, and so if you
have a 25 second clip of thesetwo boys pounding, pummeling
these other students withoutcontext, we really can't draw
conclusions.
But what we can say is thatit's never okay to assault

(14:50):
someone to this heinous physicaldegree.
Self-defense is another story.
Self-defense involves youprotecting yourself from being
harmed by another individual, but this beating in the video,
by context it looks very, verydevastating and I know for
parents this is something that'sgoing to definitely cause

(15:10):
serious concern.
We're hoping that the victiminvolved in this story makes a
full recovery as they moveforward through the end of the
school year.
Here's our following storyHomewood Flossmoor High School
Senior killed in early morningCalamay City crash.
An 18-year-old HomewoodFlossmoor High School senior

The high school confirmed thewoman was a senior student,
18-year-old Tamia Loins, andshared news of her death in a
letter to students, staff andfamilies.
The letter from the high schoolmade mention in part.
We extend our deepestcondolences to Tamiya's family.

(16:15):
Our hearts go out to them asthey cope with this tragic loss.
It is in difficult times likethis that the HF family comes
together to support each other.
We are here for you Sincerely.
Dr Scott Wakile, superintendentDr Clinton Alexander principle.

(16:37):
Details about the cause of thecrash have not been released.
This story will be updated asmore information becomes
available.
Well, all of the informationthat we have is right here in
front of us.
We do extend our condolences toMaya's family and I just want
to express just how sorry I amto you guys that this is

(16:59):
something that's touched yourfamily, these circumstances,
these unique circumstances thatcontinue to plague so many of us
.
Some of these stories don'tever make it to the internet or
the spotlight, but because thereare little details surrounding
the death of this young woman.
All we can do is continue towish you guys well.
This road of recovery inconnection with grief that

(17:22):
you're on is going to bedifficult.
It's not going to be an easyroad.
It's going to come withchallenges, but as long as you
surround yourself around peoplewho care about you and love you,
then you guys will come offvictorious.
Continue to accept the supportthat's available for you guys as
a family and we hope to seethat you guys are doing well in
the very near future.

(17:44):
In the following story, morestudents become subjected to
violence.
Osceola High School after threestudents.
In this next story we're againdealing with the tragic
circumstances of violence.
Counselors head to Osceola HighSchool after three students

(18:07):
hurt in weekend shooting inDavenport.
Counselors will join studentsand staff on campus Monday at
Osceola High School in Kissimmeedistrict.
Officials say the measure comesfrom a shooting that left three
students hurt over the weekend.
According to the Polk CountySheriff's Office, the incident

(18:29):
happened around 3.40 am Sundayin Davenport.

of altercation.
More than 100 people andmultiple vehicles were along
Famagusta Drive when gunfirerang out.
Pcso reported three people wereinjured and taken to a hospital

(18:51):

That's Famagusta Drive.
The agency said those hurtincluded a female, 17, grazed on
the forehead by a bullet.
Male 18, grazed on the shoulderby a bullet and a male, 17,

(19:13):
Later Sunday, dr ElizabethKennedy, principal at Osceola

family about a tragic incidentinvolving students at Osceola
High School.
Shared a statement on Facebookinforming the Cowboy family
about a tragic incidentinvolving students at Osceola
High School.
Channel 9 confirmed with theschool district of Osceola
County that the incident Kennedyreferred to was the shooting in
Davenport.

(19:33):
While a normal class scheduleis planned Monday for students,
counselors will be on hand tohelp those who feel they need to
talk to a professional aboutthe incident Kennedy added.
Pcso said several proms andafter parties were happening
around the area Saturday nightand Sunday morning prior to the

(19:54):
shooting incident.
The victims' names have notbeen released During the prom
season.
We can expect that theseincidences will occur and that
there's going to be morenegative circumstances
surrounding the lives of highschool kids.
So what can you guys do duringyour prom season?

(20:14):
I'm not going to tell you guysnot to go to prom, not to enjoy
your accomplishments for theschool year.
That would be silly to say theleast.
But I will encourage my viewersto be careful.
When you guys go out and you'rehanging out with your friends
you're partying be aware of yoursurroundings.
Don't fall victim to a tragedybecause you are unaware or

(20:35):
partying or having too much funor rationalizing that.
This can't happen to me and mygroup of friends.
You see, when you are proactivelike that, not only do you
protect yourself but you protectothers from circumstances that
could cause you guys devastation, pain and hurt.
In this following story we'redealing with a teacher that is

(20:59):
involved in conduct that we findto be extremely concerning.
Elementary school teacher inHuntersville allegedly caught
kissing kindergartner.
Huntersville police areinvestigating after a Blythe
Elementary School teacher wasallegedly caught kissing a
five-year-old student in theschool's bathroom.
The student's mother told QueenCity News a staff member saw

(21:22):
the kiss and reported it toschool officials.
Elizabeth Zumski's daughter isnon-verbal, with autism, and the
mom knew something was wrongwith her child after she started
showing signs she didn't wantto go to school.
What else has she endured?
Her mom stated.
Why has she been crying everyday since she started this

(21:46):
school?
Those are the questions throughZumsky's mind.
After pulling her kindergartnerout of her Blythe Elementary
classroom, I knew something waswrong at the school.
She said.
The mom said she noticedbehavioral differences in her
daughter and went to the schoolto figure out the problem, but
administrators didn't have ananswer.
A few days later she got aphone call.

(22:06):
The phone call in questionstates there was an incident
where a staff member was caughtkissing my five-year-old
daughter in the bathroom.
That was caught by anotherstaff member.
Knowing her five-year-old can'tcommunicate, what might have
happened hurts the most.
She can't tell her side of thestory.
She said She'll never be ableto.

(22:28):
She can't defend herself.
She can't speak up for herself.
An incident report shows thestaff member was removed from
the classroom, but not from theschool.
So far no charges have beenfiled.
In this case the parent doeswant someone to be held
accountable.
So I'm not.

(22:49):
I'm not sure in this story andI'm going to be as just open
with you guys as possible.
I'm not sure as to why theschool allowed a teacher to stay
on the premises when they werecaught kissing a five-year-old
in the bathroom.
The protocol for circumstanceslike this is to remove the
teacher from the company of anyother children.

(23:09):
Once a teacher is caught inmisconduct, they can no longer
remain on the premises.
So the fact that this teacherwas relocated after being caught
by another eyewitness kissing afive-year-old in the mouth in
the bathroom, that is somethingextremely concerning and as a
parent, I would if I was aparent, rather I would

(23:31):
definitely seek removing mychild from that environment.
In this following story we'redealing with another teacher
under the guise of a predator, and you'll find his actions
quite shocking.
A Pleasant Valley man chargedwith stalking elementary school
child.
Kurt Geisler, 36, is chargedwith stalking and child

(23:55):
endangerment in connection withan incident last month involving
an elementary school student.
According to the DutchessCounty Sheriff's Office, a
Pleasant Valley man is accusedof following a child home from
school and attempting to givethem inappropriate gifts and
notes.
Kurt Geisler, 36, is chargedwith stalking and child

(24:16):
endangerment and connection withan incident last month
involving an elementary schoolstudent.
According to the DutchessCounty Sheriff's Office, he was
arrested and is being held injail.
This story, although short andwithout much detail, serves as a
warning.
It's a story that promotesawareness for you parents, and

(24:39):
so for those of you in thePleasant Valley area.
Be mindful of your youngchildren.
Please note that there arepersons who seek and want to do
them harm.
I know that some parents thinkthat children should have the
right to express themselves orhave the right to do certain
things or express certain things, but the reality of the

(25:00):
circumstances because we live inan environment in which there
are people like this, who havethese sexual urges and
tendencies toward young onesthen the children can't do
everything that they want to do.
There has to be limits, boundaries and forms of
protection set in place toprotect them from these

(25:20):
circumstances.
We wish the victim a wellrecovery, as well as the parents
whom are dealing with thiscircumstance.
Our following story is anupdate in connection with a
school shooter who took thelives of four individuals.
Court denies appeal from OxfordHigh School shooter to withdraw

(25:41):
guilty plea.
A Michigan court said Tuesdayit won't accept an appeal from a
school shooter who wassentenced to life in prison in
2023 for killing four studentsand wounding others.
The Court of Appeals turneddown the shooter's application
for lack of merit in the groundspresented.
Shooter's application for lackof merit in the grounds

(26:03):
presented.
Crumbly pleaded guilty to the2021 Oxford High School shooting
after he received a rare noparole sentence.
A new legal team asked a judgeto set aside his life term and
also allow Crumbly to withdrawthe guilty plea.
Oakland County Judge Quam Rowesaid no.
He said the plea was knowingly, voluntarily and accurately

(26:23):
given.
The shooter, now 19, was 15 whenhe committed the mass shooting
on November 30, 2021.
Earlier that day, his parentswere summoned to discuss violent
drawings and agonizing phraseswritten on a math assignment.
They didn't take him home andno one checked his backpack for

(26:43):
a gun.
His lawyers claimed that hisbrain development was likely
diminished by his mother's useof alcohol.
Prosecutors, however, notedthat fetal alcoholic spectrum
disorder was not raised by apsychologist who testified on
the shooter's behalf during thesentencing phase.

(27:06):
His parents, james and JenniferCrumbly, are serving 10 year
prison terms for involuntarymanslaughter.
They were accused of making agun accessible at home and
failing to foresee that the massshooting was possible.
There's an interesting thingabout justice right Justice,

(27:27):
true justice, is supposed tobalance out the damage that's
done, and that's what it'ssupposed to do these four
individuals who were murdered bythe school shooter.
They'll never have a chance atlife again, and the sad thing
about it is the sad thing aboutit is it puts the family in a
predicament, two choices Willthey show mercy to this

(27:49):
individual, realizing thatthey're out of sorts or mentally
unstable, or will they insiston the harshest amount of
punishment for this individual?
Some have said that they've gotclosure in the justice, while
others have felt as though theyare more empty because more than
one life was ruined the victimsand the person who did the

(28:11):
crime.
When it comes to these stories, guys, there's no right or wrong
answer, obviously, but there isa great deal of support that's
needed.
Answer, obviously, but there is.
There is a great deal ofsupport that's needed.
Continue to look to a family, members, friends and persons
whom you hold dear for supportduring these tragedies.
I can't imagine how thevictim's families might be

(28:32):
feeling knowing that thisindividual is trying to change
the circumstances surroundingtaking their lives the, the
lives of their loved ones.
That is, we wish you, guys, well and we're hoping that you
are found well as you progresson this road of grief.
It's not an easy road.
It's not an easy road speakingfrom experience, but you can

(28:54):
endure it if you keep pushingforward.
In the following story, tragedystrikes a young man's life,
north Texas high school studenton life support after senior
assassin game injury.
A North Texas high schoolstudent is fighting for his life
after playing, in late April, acontroversial water game that's

(29:18):
become popular among seniorsabout to graduate.
The game is called SeniorAssassin.
Players have a list ofclassmates they need to kill by
spraying with a water gun whileavoiding being killed themselves
.
Participants use one of ahandful of mobile apps to track

(29:39):
their targets.
While the rules may seemharmless, some say it encourages
kids to put themselves indangers.
Armed with water guns andchasing classmates through an
Arlington neighborhood, isaacLeal jumped onto the back of a
Jeep that began to pull out of adriveway.
Everybody that's playing has todownload that app, explained

(30:04):
Jose Leal, isaac Leo's father,so that way they can tell you
what location each person is at.
Only minutes after the vehiclepulled away, with the
17-year-old standing on the backbumper, he was on the ground
with a severe head injury.
The South Grand Prairie HighSchool baseball star, only weeks
away from graduation, is now onlife support at Medical City

(30:27):
Arlington.
Videos from security camerasshow Isaac Leal standing on the
back bumper of the Jeep as itmade several turns before a dip
in the road ejected him onto thepavement.
Only an ambulance responded tothe scene, which upset the
parents, who want the police toconduct a criminal investigation

(30:48):
.
The Arlington Police Departmentsaid in a statement it was first
made aware of the incident onSaturday, may 3rd, when his
family contacted us and officersresponded to the hospital to
speak with him and a policereport was taken.
The family said it's havingtrouble moving Isaac to another
hospital.

(31:08):
Medical City Healthcare MedicalCity Arlington released a
statement to CBS News Texas.
His father adds we're going tocontinue fighting for my son.
I don't know how to make itmore clear.
Isaac Leo's family has kept aconstant vigil by his side since

(31:29):
the accident, holding out hopethat he will recover.
They wanted to speak out, hopefully, to parents to protect
them from going through thesame pain that they are
experiencing.
The principal at a nearbyTimberview High School is
threatening three days ifin-school suspension for

(31:51):
students and in-schoolsuspension for students caught
playing the game on campus.
When you look at the video ofthis individual, he's on the
back of a truck and the truckhits a pothole and he bounces in
the air and it causes him asevere head injury.
When you see this video, yousee this individual riding the

(32:12):
back of his Jeep.
He hits a pothole flies in, theair crashes down and it cost
him dearly.
We're hoping that he recovers.

(32:57):
This next story is very similarA middle school student in ICU
after being hit in head by shotput at track meet.
An 8th grade student fromIllinois was hospitalized with
serious head injuries after hewas hit by a shot put while
competing at a track meet meet.

(33:24):
Ryan Suar says his son, parkerSuar, had just won the eighth
grade shot put competitionSaturday at a track meet.
I'm going to take this one back.
In this following story, another student is dealing with
an injury that could bedetrimental to his life Middle
school student in ICU afterbeing hit in head by shot putt
at track meet.

(33:44):
An eighth grade student fromIllinois was hospitalized with
serious head injuries after hewas hit by a shot putt while
competing at a track meet.
Ryan Suar says his son, parkerSuar, had just won the eighth
grade shot putt competition.
It was Saturday at a track meetin Mason City.
Parker, a student at IlanyCentral Middle School, was

(34:10):
getting ready to complete in thediscuss event when a shot put
thrown by a 7th grade competitorhit him in the head.
Parker remained in theintensive care unit at HSHS St
John's Hospital in Springfieldon Sunday.
His father says he suffered askull fracture and a brain bleed
, but there's no internalswelling.

(34:31):
The middle schooler has beencommunicating with his family
and remembers what happened.
His father says he will undergoreconstructive surgery for the
skull fracture in the comingdays.
The central superintendent, jennifer Durbin, released a
statement about the accident inwhich she said Parker is
receiving excellent hospitalcare and, while his condition

(34:54):
remains serious, we'reencouraged by the early signs in
his recovery journey.
She said the school district iscommitted to supporting Parker
and his family during hisrecovery.
She added that counselors areavailable for any student
needing emotional support andthe district is conducting a
thorough review of all safetyprotocols for our athletic event

(35:17):
.
It seems to be an unforeseenoccurrence.
It seems to be an accident.
There was a shot putcompetition or shot put
competition.
And this individual was hit inthe head, and hard too.
He suffered a skull fractureand some bleeding of the brain.
He's young, and so we're hopingthat he's going to recover.

(35:38):
But man, it's really sad whenyou're doing things that are
positive and then negativethings just get in the way.
This month we're talking aboutmental health awareness, because
it's mental health awarenessmonth and some of these things
can really be draining on one'smental health.
Sitting there in the hospitalhoping that your loved one
recovers, not knowing what thenext step is, not knowing what's

(36:00):
going to happen, can cause agreat deal of anxiety.
Never forget that by takingthese heavy emotions, channeling
them into positive areas oflife, such as keeping a journal,
avoiding self-destructivehabits, you can endure these
difficult circumstances.
We wish you guys all the best, the Soir family, as you continue

(36:22):
to strive to recover duringthese circumstances.
Now, in this following storywe're dealing with a very tragic
robbery that occurred at alocal high school.
Two arrested at Bowie HighSchool for robbery.
According to Bowie Police, astudent is recovering after
being assaulted and robbed atschool.

(36:42):
The school resource officerassigned to the school learned
about the incident on Monday at11.40 am, the SRO reported that
the victim, a student, waschoked and robbed of his
personal belongings by two otherstudents who were later
arrested.
It is unclear what items werestolen from the victim or if

(37:02):
they were returned to him.
Due to the victim's age, hisidentity will not be made public
.
The suspects are being chargedwith first and second degree
assault.
One of the students arrested isbeing charged as an adult and
was taken to the Department ofCorrections in Upper Marlborough
.
The second student was releasedunder the supervision of the

(37:22):
Department of Juvenile Services.
This investigation is stillongoing.
I remember years ago, years ago, around Christmas time, my
friend wanted this North Face.
He had to have this North Faceand he got this North Face and
he's wearing this coat, high andmighty, of course, and you know
it works for him.

(37:43):
He looks good in this coat.
Long story short, we're walkinghome, I'm walking with him home
and all of a sudden this carstops and these guys jump out
and they pull out weapons on usand they steal his, steal his
coat, they take his coat rightoff of his back.
I don't think he ever recoveredfrom that type of trauma.
The individual that we justmentioned, this victim in this

(38:05):
story.
I can't imagine what traumahe's going through, but, what's
worse, the trauma that hisfamily might be going through.
Losing someone in death is thehighest degree of tragedy a
person can go through and, depending on how it happened, it
could be 10 times as worse.
The interesting thing aboutthis story is that his life was

(38:29):
spared, but these individualscould have ended his life and I
can't imagine the emotional tollthat is taken on the parents.
Please accept our support herefrom the RAD podcasting, making

(38:50):

there is awareness that therehas to be something done about
these things.
Violence continues.
In our last two stories, teteen stabbed another in custody
after fight at west potomac highschool.

(39:12):
Now this story is accompaniedwith a video and again, tiktok
will not allow me to upload thevideo because of its gruesome
nature.
My source is going to be nbcwashingtoncom in northern
virginia.
I really need you guys to watchthis story to get the full
effect of this short.

Fairfax County Police ChiefKevin Davis said investigators

(40:17):

(40:38):

Said the incident was isolated.
This police officer said theincident was isolated and
there's no current threat to theschool.
A swarm of police cars andambulance were reported outside
of the school.
The building did go intolockdown and many parents were

(40:59):
mortified about thecircumstances regarding this
incident.
Now, later in the afternoon, parents were allowed to check if
their students or children wereokay, and some were let out a
bit earlier than the usualdismissal time.
You know, I can't believe orimagine this.
When you, as a parent, get yourchild ready in the morning for

(41:23):
school and you send them ontheir way, you never know if
it's going to be your lastmoment with them.
School violence has become oneof the leading statistical acts
of violence currently as we'respeaking, because a lot of the
times these persons are comingfrom broken families, broken
homes.
In harmony with Mental HealthAwareness Month, there are
people that are going throughtragic circumstances.

(41:44):
In harmony with Mental HealthAwareness Month, there are
people that are going to tragiccircumstances.
They're going to difficultcircumstances at home and no one
really shows that care, love orempathy.
So if you take a child that'sbeing victimized, abused at home
and you put pressure on themfrom all directions, what do you
think that child is going to belike when they're given an
opportunity to vent their rageor express how they feel about

(42:08):
this life?
Oftentimes it translates toviolence.
That's where you have all thesegruesome beatings.
You have all these gruesomefights coming from these young
persons today.
I'm not going to state that allyoung persons are just violent
prone.
I would like to think thatthere's something behind the
individual, there's somethinggoing on in their personal life
that makes them respond this way.

(42:28):
You know, I've been workingwith kids since 2017, and most
of the time there is a triggerbutton for these kids whom are
going through these disgustingand difficult circumstances at
home.
But if no one takes the time toask them what's going on or
show that personal fellowfeeling to these students, then
this is what's going to happen.

(42:49):
Guys, don't forget to catchthis video of this fight that
took place in West Potomac.
This is a very, very gruesome.
This is the second gruesomefight that we've covered on this
episode in particular.
Here is our final story Again, more school violence.
