Is God at work in your life even before you’ve said yes to Him? Acts 10 shows us He is. In the story of Cornelius and Peter, we see God preparing both the seeker and the messenger—breaking down barriers, exposing prejudice, and making room for grace.

Cornelius was devout but distant, religious but not yet redeemed. Peter was faithful yet still blinded by old attitudes. And in a powerful moment, the Holy Spirit broke through both sides—pouring out salvation on a Gentile household in what became a turning point for the gospel.

This story reminds us that God is already moving—both in you and through you. The question is, will you let Him?

You're not alone out there, andI believe there's a great
comfort in knowing that you'renot alone, because oftentimes
the devil will come in and makeit seem.
He'll sort of start accusingyou and start accusing God and

(00:45):
saying, well, you're all aloneand you're the only one and
these people around you youcan't really trust them.
So you know all theseaccusations and lies, but well,
jesus came with grace and truth, didn't he?
And so the truth takes care ofall those lies, amen.
And so let us know how we canlift you up in prayer, let us

(01:08):

Amen and hallelujah, andcontinue to like and continue to
share.
That helps us tremendously toreach more folks, especially
through social media.
Amen, amen, amen.
So let's come to Acts, chapter10.

(01:29):
Today I call this the GentileRed Sea.
You know, it's a really, really, really powerful occasion in
the history of the church and ithas a lot for us.
Today, this is one of thosechapters.
You can spend six monthspreaching on all this and never

(01:52):
preach the same message twice.
You can write all kinds ofbooks, you can do all kinds of
historical studies and doctrinalstudies and social studies, all
sorts of studies on this, butfor tonight, I want us to see
two things here.
Just out of all of that, I wantus to see two things that Jesus

(02:13):
is alive and he's invested insaving people.
Hebrews 12 calls him the authorand finisher of our faith.
He's the author and finisher ofmy faith and your faith.
And he's the author andfinisher of the faith of every

(02:35):
single soul who will believe onJesus Christ.
And, my friend, if you're lost,I want you to put your name
there.
And my friend, if you're lost,I want you to put your name
there.
He's the author and finisher ofthe faith that you haven't yet
put in him, but he knows yourheart and he's invested in

(03:00):
reaching you.
He doesn't want anybody toperish, but he wants everybody
to come to eternal life.
He's a living Savior and he'spersonally involved not only
with shedding his blood.
That's done, not only with thecross, that's done not only with
the empty tomb.
That's done.
So today, hallelujah and amen, father, son and Holy Spirit all

(03:21):
together are involved inreaching people, and we're going
to see that through Cornelius, and we're going to see that
through Peter as well, and thisis an example both to the lost
and to the church tonight.
So, no matter where you arebefore the Lord, hallelujah,
he's got at least one, if not 10or 12 things to say to you.

(03:41):
Amen, hallelujah.
So let's come on in and look atthis Chapter 10, starting in
verse 1.
I like the way it starts.
There's a certain man thatmeans he's an example to you.
It's not just about Cornelius, and it's not even just about
Cornelius and his wholehousehold, but it's an example

(04:02):
to you throughout, you know, throughout all generations,
including our own.
This is an example.
The Lord wants to say a lotthrough this man and through
Peter, and through the way heworked in both men to work out
what I call a divine appointment.
And so we start out withCornelius and he's a centurion

(04:24):
of the band called the ItalianBand.
He's a devout man, one thatfeared God, with all of his
house, which gave much alms tothe people and prayed to God
always.
So we get a lot of detail aboutCornelius here.
He feared God.
That's the central thing.
He had a fear of God.

(04:47):
That's the central thing.
He had a fear of God.
Now this man is a Roman, he's aGentile.
He's not a Jew.
That's why I call this theGentile Red Sea.
He's not a Jew.
There are a lot of commentatorsand historians who say there was
a group, especially among thesehigh-level Romans.
They were the God-fearers.

(05:08):
They sort of feared God, butfrom a distance.
They didn't actually go andconvert to Judaism, but they had
a fear of God, of God and withall of his house, and describes
him as devout.
He's devout, he's dedicated,he's devoted, he's religiously

(05:40):
motivated because he fears God.
That's the driving reason rightnow in verse 1.
He feared God.
That's all he had.
He had a heart that feared Godand so he was devoted.
He gave alms, he gave money, hehelped the poor who were around
him.
You see later on in the chapter, he had a good report of the
Jews.
For that reason he helped thepoor.

(06:04):
He prayed to God always, andyet God was only God.
At this point there was still adistance between Cornelius and
God.
He was just God.
He wasn't his father yet.

(06:24):
He wasn't his Abba father.
He wasn't his savior, he wasn'tthe affectionate Lord Not yet.
But you see his heart, myfriend, because Cornelius did
these things and you go back inthe Gospels, I believe Scripture

(06:46):
bears this out.
He did not give alms or pray inthe same way that the Pharisees
did.
He might have gone through someof the same actions I bet his
prayers were a bit different buthe didn't give alms just to
give alms, because it was thething he was supposed to do.

(07:07):
He didn't pray just to be heardof everybody and so that
everybody around him could sayoh, look how righteous and look
how good, look how His heart wasdifferent.
I say he had a soft heart.
This was a man of war.
This was a dedicated man.
This was an educated man.

(07:28):
This was a wealthy man.
This was a man of means in theRoman Empire, a commander of one
of the major bands the Italianband was a big deal and he was a
centurion.
He knew violence, he had doneviolence and he taught other
peopleurion.
He knew violence, he had doneviolence and he taught other

(07:50):
people how to do violence.
But, even so, the fear of theLord, he had it, and that is the
beginning of wisdom.
See, it's not the ending placeof wisdom, but it's the
beginning of wisdom.
So I need to ask my friend, because the fear of the Lord,

(08:14):
not only the awareness thatthere is a God, but the belief
that this God is higher than youare, and the belief that this
God is mighty, and the beliefthat this God is good, and the
belief that this God is good, and the belief that this God is
holy, and the belief that thisGod has given you life, and
there's a natural human fear.
There's a reason why you knoweverybody in Scripture whenever

(08:36):
just an angel shows up andCornelius is no exception
whenever an angel not Godhimself, but a ministering
spirit that God sent, shows up,everybody gets afraid, and we
heard it this past Sunday.
You know how many times doesJesus have to say fear not, fear

(08:58):
not, fear not.
There's a natural fear becausewe're naturally separate from
him and he is holy and we're notholy, and Cornelius was no
exception, but his heart, thoughunsaved, though not born again.

(09:19):
At this point God looked at thisman's heart and then he gave
Cornelius a vision, in verse 3,.
He saw in a vision, evidentlyabout the ninth hour of the day
it was about 3 o'clock in theafternoon, as we reckon time An

(09:41):
angel of God coming to him.
And this is verifiably an angelof God.
Once you look at how God doesthis, god moves.
And then God tells you that yes, this is God, because it is
radically different from whatyou know by experience, by

(10:02):
culture, by upbringing, byeducation.
I bet Cornelius wasn't lookingfor this to happen and coming to
him and saying to him, cornelius, and when he looked on
him he was afraid.
There's that fear.
See, notice how the man's rankdidn't matter anymore, the man's

(10:28):
human authority didn't matteranymore, the man's wealth and
education and standing, andpolitical past and political
future in the Roman Empire, itdidn't matter anymore.
What mattered was he had a fearof God.

(10:56):
And now God has sent aministering spirit walking in
form of a man literally intothis man's house and the man
says, cornelius, humanly nothingmatters anymore, hallelujah.
He said what is it, lord?
And he, the angel, said untohim Wow, thy prayers and thine

(11:20):
alms are come up for a memorialbefore God.
God remembered you, god lookedat you, god looked at everything
you've done in the past and Godremembered you.
And now, see, god starts tomove here.

(11:49):
Now send men to Joppa and callfor one Simon whose surname is
Peter.
He lodgest with one Simon, atanner, whose house is by the
seaside.
He shall tell thee what thououghtest to do.
And when the angel which spaketo Cornelius was departed, he
called two of his householdservants and a devout soldier of
them that waited on himcontinually.
And when he declared all thesethings to them and my, what a

(12:10):
conversation that had to be,amen.
When he had declared all thesethings to them, he sent them to
Joppa.
Oh bless God.
See, god spoke to a centurionin a way that a centurion could
understand.
He said call these men, givethem an order, go find this one

(12:33):
man.
He's about 30 miles away fromyou in Joppa.
He gave them pretty much thewhole address.
But I think there was somethingelse going on here.
You know, cornelius feared Godand he had a household that also
feared God.
God knew something aboutCornelius.

(12:54):
God wanted Cornelius to gatherhis household together Because
God was about to do somethingamazing.
God was about to do somethingholy.
God was about to do somethinggood.
God was about to put his gloryon display.

(13:15):
God was drawing a wholehousehold to Jesus Christ.
God was actively working inthis man's life and in the life
of his household, and he knewsomething about Cornelius.
He knew that Cornelius wouldwant his household to hear this,
and so he didn't send Corneliusdirectly.
It would take a few days tomake the trip to Joppa and get

(13:38):
back.
In that few days time, corneliuswe see this later on in the
chapter had gathered his entirehouse together, and so God
started in Cornelius andhallelujah.
After he did that, god startedworking in Peter.

(14:00):
After he did that, god startedworking in Peter.
You see, god's always going toget you ready for what he wants
you to do as a Christian, as achurch.
He's got what he wants you todo and, church, he knows you're
born again, he knows you'resaved, he knows you're spirit
filled.
But God is still always goingto get you ready for what he

(14:24):
wants you to do in the future.
And so look at what Peter did.
So on the morrow, verse 9,.
As the men from Joppa aremaking the journey and they're
drawing closer to the city, they're getting there.

(14:45):
Peter went up on the housetop topray at about six hours and
became very hungry and wouldhave eaten and while they made
ready he fell into a trance.
And he has this vision, he hasthis entire vision and it's
heavily out of Leviticus.
And to fast forward a littlebit just for the sake of clarity

(15:09):
in the message, peter, godshowed Peter that he shouldn't
call any man common or unclean, and the vision was repeated
three times.
And then Peter after that got adirect word from the Holy Ghost

(15:31):
when the men showed up.
Because you see, peter, peterhad to see this, because the way
Peter was brought up and theway the Pharisees and the
Sadducees, the way theyinterpreted and taught the law,
you could deal with a Gentile inthe marketplace.

(15:53):
You could deal with a Gentileeconomically you could deal.
But you did not ever go intothe house and you sure did not
eat with them.
There was a limit, there was awall and Peter as a born-again

(16:15):
man, born again, saved.
I mean you go back through thebook of Acts.
God had used this man mightilyalready up to this point.
Peter was the guy who preachedat Pentecost.
Peter had raised up Aeneas, peter had raised up Dorcas and

(16:37):
the Lord had moved mightilythrough him just in the city of
Joppa, much less all the wayaround the region.
At the same time, that'sabsolutely true.
At the same time, had God notministered to Peter on this area
, peter would have, in the nameof God, completely written off

(17:01):
what God was doing over thisattitude and Peter didn't even
think anything of it.
It's just the way things were.
At this point they had not seena Gentile get saved.
God was working that, but firstbefore he would use Peter in

(17:24):
that way.
And you see, christians, takeheart, god knows your heart.
Notice how God got things goingwith Cornelius, got the men
coming, and then God ministeredto Peter.
God knew Peter would listen.

(17:45):
Now, Peter had such arelationship with God because,
amen, god showed him this visionand it's flip back a little too
far there.
Amen, peter sees heaven openback in verse 11, and a certain

(18:06):
vessel is descending to him andit was like a great sheet and it
was knit at the four cornersand it was being let down to the
earth.
Wherein were all men arefour-footed beasts of the earth
and wild beasts, and creepingthings, fowls of the air.
And there came a voice to himand this voice is in red.
So I believe this voice soundedexactly like Jesus, because it

(18:28):
is Rise Peter, kill and eat.
And we got Peter being Peter, hallelujah.
He straight up says not soStraight up.
That's what I love about Peter.
I mean he's just straight.
He said no, not so.

(18:51):
I've never eaten anythingthat's common or unclean.
And the voice spake to himagain the second time.
I mean maybe the Lord wassmiling up there a little bit
Amen.
He said what God has cleansed, that call not thou common, don't
call it profane, don't call itunclean, don't call it unclean.

(19:12):
God cleansed it.
And this was done three times.
There were three men who came.
This was done three times andPeter didn't quite get it yet he
doubted in himself what thevision could mean.
You have to understand this wasso different on a human level

(19:39):
and church.
I don't know what the Lord isspeaking to you, Church here and
church abroad, brothers andsisters abroad.
But God, this was not done upto this point and the Lord knew
that.
The Lord knew that Peter wouldneed to be assured that this was

(20:01):
truly of God, because it wentnot only in the ran direct,
contrary to the Pharisees andthe Sadducees.
This ran direct contrary to theway he had probably always
heard the law taught.
This ran directly contrary.
You get into issues of nationalidentity over this stuff

(20:26):
Cultural family.
You know how he grew up, whathe'd experienced, what he'd seen
, and the Lord knew it all.
But the Lord knew that he wason the inside of Peter.
Now Peter had the Holy Ghost, but even so, this is how the

(20:47):
Lord dealt with him.
The Lord didn't slap him aroundor beat him down or anything.
He gave the vision once.
He gave the vision twice, hegave the vision again and then,
when Peter was still doubting inhimself, the men show up, they
ask for him and then he gets adirect word from the Holy Ghost

(21:12):
and verse 19,.
While Peter was, he thought onthe vision.
The Spirit said to him behold, three men seek thee.
You gotta love how detailed Godgets.
They just showed up, peter, they're out there, they're at
the gate, they're seeking you.
Arise, therefore, and get theedown and go with them, doubting

(21:36):
nothing, for I have sent them.
And then Peter went downassured, and Peter traveled with
them all the way back toCornelius and Caesarea.
My friends, god's good isn't he?

(21:56):
He knows you and he knows heloves you.
He knows your attitude and Ibelieve it.
You know, my wife testified 12years of marriage.
We've both gone through thiswith each other.
We were saved back then.
We were born again back then, but we still had some attitudes

(22:18):
that were ungodly.
We still had some growing up todo in the Lord.
We still had that, and yet wewere born again.
And so God is going to be GodBecause he sees the end from the
beginning.

(22:38):
I heard Harold Wilmington saidabout this chapter God works on
both sides of the line.
God's working in you as a lostperson right now.
God has been working as a lostperson as you're listening to
this message lost.
I want you to hear that God isworking in your life.

(22:59):
There's a reason you clicked onthis message.
There's a reason, and I don'tknow it yet.
That's why I love to hear thesethings.
I don't know what the last 5,10, 15 years of your life have
been like, but I do know thatGod's got something to say for
you now and he's saying it inthe context of your entire life,

(23:21):
and he's saying I want yousaved, I want you born again, I
want you alive, I want you outof your sin, I want you with me,
I want you to have eternal life.
And so I'm bringing you to thismessage and using the example of
this man who had a basic fearof the Lord, maybe, like you do

(23:43):
tonight, maybe you'redisciplined, maybe you're
religious, maybe you're pious, and maybe you have a fear of the
Lord Even though you'reinvolved in a church, even
though you might be involved insome ministry, even though you
might be involved in doing, youknow, good things in the Word of
God.
There's still a distance.
God wants to bridge that gaptonight in church.

(24:08):
God wants you to reach thesepeople and God wants any
attitude that's ungodly aboutanything to be dealt with.
And this is the way he dealswith you.
He deals with you as a son, hedeals with you as a daughter, he

(24:31):
deals with you as a bride, hedeals as someone.
You know each other and therelationship isn't in question.
You see, I've had that withpeople in this room.
You know they're straight withme and I'm straight right back
with them, and sometimes, wheniron sharpens iron, you've got
to understand the sparks fly.

(24:51):
But it always comes back to therelationship.
It always comes back to thelove, it always comes back to
you're in the Lord and I'm inthe Lord, and the Lord's doing
something in me and probably atthe same time he's doing
something in you because hewants to take me somewhere, he

(25:15):
wants to take you somewhere andhe wants to take a church
somewhere, he wants to takechurches somewhere, hallelujah.
And so, before the Lord's goingto use you, oftentimes he's got
to minister to an attitude,he's got to minister to an

(25:36):
ungodly belief, he's got tominister to something that's
still kind of holding on there.
He's got to minister tosomething that's still kind of
holding on there Because andthis is the real gravity of it,
and I got to say it again hadGod not done this in Peter's
life, peter would have missedeverything that he was doing in

(25:57):
Cornelius and Peter would havemissed.
And churches need to hear thatPeter would have missed because
Peter would have held on to theway the law had been taught and
the way he inwardly interpretedthe law, yet saved, hallelujah.

(26:22):
But Peter would have missed theentire first harvest from the
Gentiles had he held on to thatattitude.
Church, I need to.
You know, trust the Holy Ghost.
When you preach amen, what's Godshowing you?

(26:43):
You preach Amen.
What's God showing you rightnow?
He's showing you a vision forhow he wants to use you, and
that's true.
Don't knock that at all, don'tput that aside at all.
Hallelujah, this is natural.
This is normal.
What is he showing you now thatyou've been holding on to and

(27:10):
you've been saying, well, thevision's great and you're going
to do that somehow, andwonderful, but, but, but, but,
but in Peter's case.
But they're Romans, they're onthe level of the old Philistines
.
We deal with them because wehave to deal with them, but
they're unclean.
What is that in you?

(27:34):
I say believe God tonight.
God was good enough to save you, he's good enough to keep you
and he's good enough to grow youup and he's mighty to deliver
you and to use you.
So hear the Lord tonight, andwhatever that may be in your

(27:55):
life, so hear the Lord tonightin whatever that may be in your
life.
And I've got to leave you withthe end, sort of the end of the
matter.
Amen.
Come on down to verse 44.
You see, cornelius recites histestimony, hallelujah.

(28:16):
Peter recites his testimony,hallelujah.
And they walk into his housetogether and Peter sees all
these people gathered and heopens his mouth, hallelujah.
He opens his mouth and hestarts to preach.

(28:36):
And then we come to verse 44.
While Peter yet spoke the words, he's right in the middle of
his message Hallelujah, the HolyGhost.
The Holy Ghost fell on all ofthem which heard the word While

(28:57):
Peter was preaching.
See, peter just had to go intothe house and preach.
God did all this.
Just get him into the house andpreach, because he was God's
man here.
And it wasn't Peter who did athing.
All he did was obey.
All he did was believe God.
All he did was follow through.
All he did was walk it out.

(29:18):
All he did.
He didn't have anything planned.
He just opened up his mouth andhe started preaching.
And you see, the Holy Ghost didall the heavy lifting.
The Holy Ghost fell on them, and I love the words here.
It starts out the Holy Ghostfell upon them and then it sort

(29:40):
of it turns aside a little bit.
The account does.
And they that were of thecircumcision he said Peter
didn't go alone they of thecircumcision which believe, were
astonished.
We're standing in a Gentile'shouse, a whole group of them up
there, peter's preaching, andthe Holy Ghost is moving on them

(30:03):
.
On the Gentiles was also pouredout the gift of the Holy Ghost,
for they heard them.
They saw Gentile Pentecost, they heard them speak with
tongues and magnify God and thenanswered Peter, can any man

(30:27):
forbid water?
That these should not bebaptized, which have received
the Holy Ghost?
You see, the Holy Ghost startedcoming upon them.
The Holy Ghost started on theoutside.
All these people had a fear ofthe Lord.
They're doing everything out ofthe fear of the Lord.
And the Holy Ghost came on theoutside, just like he would do

(30:48):
in the Old Testament.
He came on the outside firstand he came upon and he pressed,
sort of like the Holy Ghostpressed, not physically but on
the heart, on the soul.
The Holy Ghost pressed andevery single one of these people
, in response to the Holy Ghost, embraced him.

(31:10):
The Holy Ghost sort of reachedout and pressed and from his
side sort of embraced on theoutside, and then every single
solitary soul in the roomreached back and embraced him
back.
He received them and they werespirit filled At that second.

(31:31):
They were born again.
Their sins separated from them.
No longer would they just doanything out of only the fear of
the Lord.
Now they would walk.
As Jesus said, we ought to walkIf you love me.
If you love me.
If you love me, obey me.

(31:54):
If you love me, follow me Ifyou love me.
And oh, they received thatpromise.
They were the church at thispoint.
They were grafted in.
At this point, romans I thinkit's chapter nine, you got to go
there to explain this but theywere grafted in.
They had the same Holy Ghost, they heard the same Jesus, they

(32:15):
heard the same gospel.
They're under the same blood, they're under the same
inheritance.
Abraham just became theirfather.
They were grafted in at thispoint, hallelujah.
You see, god was doing the work.
I want you to see that he workedon both sides.
He worked on Cornelius and heworked on Peter, and now he

(32:40):
brought them together.
Now he had brought, he broughtthe lost people to the church
and then he brought the churchto the lost people and he got
them together.
So, my friend, what's the Lorddoing in you if our musicians
would come forward tonight?
Oh, my friend, are you lost andin the fear of the Lord?

(33:04):
Oh, hallelujah, you're in goodcompany.
Now, my friends, be savedtonight, because Jesus, he loves
you and this is how he lovesyou he comes into your life and
he reaches.
He comes into your life and hespeaks.
He comes into your life and heministers, because he's already

(33:26):
shed his blood for you.
He's already dealt with yoursin, no matter how great or how
small you believe it to be.
Jesus has dealt with it all.
His blood was shed for you.
His death was died for you.
His heart is for you and notagainst you.
If you're listening to thismessage and the Lord is drawing

(33:49):
you, I want you to know thathe's for you and not against you
.
He's for you being born again.
He's for you being deliveredfrom your sin.
He's for you being saved fromthe wrath of God that hangs over
your head even now.
He's for you.
And what does he say?
Believe on the one he sent.

(34:11):
What does he say by grace, you're saved Through faith.
What does he say Without faith, you're saved Through faith.
What does he say Without faith,it's impossible to please him.
What does he say Put your faithin him.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
