We explore Galatians 2:19-21 to reveal the difference between living under religious obligation versus living in the freedom Christ purchased with His sacrifice. Through a detailed examination of our identification with Christ in His death and resurrection, we look at how true salvation frees us from both sin's power and religious bondage.

• The law of Moses created a continual consciousness of sin requiring endless sacrifices
• Christ offered Himself once as the perfect sacrifice that fully satisfied sin's requirement
• When we believe in Christ, we are crucified with Him - our old sinful self dies
• True Christian living is "not I, but Christ lives in me" - His life expressing through us
• "Rededication" is an unbiblical concept that keeps believers trapped in performance-based religion
• God has no memory of forgiven sin - it's removed as far as east is from west
• Salvation is received by faith, not achieved through religious effort

If you're being drawn to true salvation today, simply call upon Jesus right now. Let the belief in your heart come out in words and ask to be born again this very minute. Thank you for helping us reach people worldwide with this message. Visit gbtministries.com for service information or to contact us at redeemingthelost@icloud.com.

NEW BOOK! I'm pleased to say that we have completed a new book that has been years in the making. The Ten Shirot: Songs of Redemption looks at ten songs that were sung through pivotal times in Scripture. It's an examination of the redemption of Jesus, of worship, and of Scripture in a way that we believe you probably haven't seen before. Check it out at https://a.co/d/0a4KIooL .

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Hello, greetings and welcome to the Redeeming Love
Bible broadcast.
My name is Phil Duddy, evangelist with Grace Baptist
Tabernacle of King, northCarolina.
Very, very much a blessing tohave you with me on the program
today.
As always, reach out to us atredeemingthelost at icloudcom.
Going to the book of Galatianstoday.
So come with me to Galatians, chapter 2, and we are going to

(00:37):
start in Galatians 2.19, and weare going to get into verse 20,
but let's look at 2.19 first.
The Word of God reads this wayFor I, through the law, am dead
to the law that I might liveunto God, and this is speaking
of the law of Moses.
And to make a very, very, verylong, deep, rich and fulfilling

(01:05):
study short here, because thereare so many teachings here,
there are so many messages thatyou could preach here and
there's so much value instudying the law.
As a born-again person, youknow reading the law and reading
the prophets in light of theNew Testament and in light of

(01:25):
what Jesus has done and whatJesus has fulfilled, it's a
tremendous, tremendous,tremendous blessing.
But to make a long accountshort, today, the law required
sacrifice.
There was a continual in thedays under the law.
There was a continualconsciousness, there was a

(01:46):
continual awareness of sin.
And if you were going to followthe Lord, if you're going to
relate to the Lord, if you weregoing to be one of the people of
God, there had to be sacrifice.
Because sin had to be sacrifice, because sin would inevitably

(02:11):
and invariably come up, sinwould come out and that sin
required by the Word of God,under the law, by the Word of
God, this sin required sacrifice.
The sin required a death.
The sin required a shedding ofblood.

(02:31):
The sin required all of thesethings and there was a
priesthood that would ministerin that way and the priesthood
would offer the sacrifices andthey would offer the sacrifices
on behalf of the people.
And Paul here, under theinspiration of the Holy Ghost,
he's talking about I, throughthe law, am dead to the law that

(02:58):
I might live unto God and myfriend.
That's only possible in theLord Jesus Christ, because we
can find it in parts of the bookof Galatians.
We can find a lot of it in thebook of Hebrews.
Hallelujah, jesus Christoffered himself.
Jesus Christ offered his bodyand his blood and he laid down

(03:22):
his life.
He both offered himself and hewas offered.
He was a pleasing offering toGod.
He's the Lamb of God, to gofrom Hebrews to the book of John
.
He's the Lamb of God who takesaway the sin of the world.
World.
Jesus Christ fulfilled thiscontinual need for sacrifice

(03:48):
because he offered himself onetime.
He offered his life one time, his blood and his body one time.
He did that one time on behalfof all of us and the Lord, god
Almighty.
He laid sin on Jesus Christ.
He made sin to be Jesus Christ.

(04:09):
If you look at the Day ofAtonement, it'll blow you away.
The Lord, in a way, sort oflaid his hands on Jesus Christ
and he made Jesus to be sin.
He made Jesus to be sin.
He made Jesus to be my sin.
He made Jesus to be your sin.

(04:30):
He made Jesus to be the sin ofthe entire world, past, present
and future.
He made Jesus to be sin and theprecious Lamb of God who takes
away the sin of the world.
In order to do that, he died.
In order to do that, the bloodwas shed.

(04:50):
In order to do that, the bloodwas offered to the Lord.
The Lord offered blood to theLord.
Lord offered blood to the Lord.
Because my friend, later on inGalatians it says you know, like

(05:18):
if there could have been a lawthat gave life.
You know, long story short, there would have been.
Yeah, I can actually read thatit's on the second page here.
It's a law, then, against thepromises of God.
God forbid.
For if there had been a lawgiven which could have given
life, verily righteousnessshould have been by the law.
So the law of Moses was neverdesigned.

(05:39):
The law of Moses was neverdesigned to truly save anyone,
to truly purge the conscience ofsin, to truly, completely,
utterly deal with sin.
The law, which is holy andgiven by God, was never designed

(06:09):
to do that.
The law always looked forwardto Jesus.
Every day that went by underthe law of Moses looked forward
to the day of the cross andultimately, the day of the
resurrection, because there, atthat time, at that point in
history, and through Jesus, thesin problem was finally dealt

(06:31):
with.
Because there was no there, there was never going to be a
sacrifice again.
There was never going to be ahigher sacrifice.
There's never going to be abetter sacrifice.
There was never going to be anequivalent sacrifice.
That it that jesus christ,hallelujah.
When he said it was finished,it is finished.
He took away the sin of theworld and then, with that in
mind, let's go to verse 20.

(06:51):
I am crucified with Christ andthis is presented as a good
thing, this is presented as goodnews, this is presented as
rejoicing, this is presented asa thing to be thankful for.
Christ was crucified.
I am crucified with him and myfriend, the cross was a tool of

(07:15):
execution and that execution wasa final thing and it was a
public thing and it was an openthing.
Jesus Christ, he wasn'tcrucified behind closed doors.
No, he was crucified.
He was out in the open.
He was raised up, he was liftedup.
People were gathered around andpeople could see him and people
talked with him.

(07:35):
I mean, people interacted withhim on the cross.
I mean people were crucifiednext with him and there was
interaction there.
People would mock and peoplewould scorn and people would
ridic there, and people wouldmock and people would score and
people would ridicule and peoplewould say, well, if he comes
down from the cross, well, youknow, then then we'll believe on
him, if he comes down from thecross, or, you know, let's see
if god saves him from the cross.

(07:56):
Or is he calling out on elijah,or is he doing this or doing
that?
You know, there was.
There was all this stuff goingon all around the cross.
There was one thief that wasreviling the Lord.
There was another thief who wasbelieving on the Lord.
Hallelujah, the Lord is sayingyou know, while he's being
nailed to the cross, father, forgive them.

(08:17):
They know not what they do, butthe point is it was public, it
was open, it was not private andit was final.
A crucifixion was an execution.
It was a very, very publicexecution.
It was a very, very humiliatingexecution.

(08:38):
It was a very, very painfulexecution.
At the end of the day, it wasan execution and executions are
final.
And Jesus died, definitivelydied on that cross.
But oh, my, oh, my, my, my.
In the process, the father madehim to be sin.

(09:00):
The father turned his face awayfrom Jesus and there was a
transaction that happened there.
Jesus did that for you.
And Paul is saying here I amcrucified with Christ.
This old, dying, rotten flesh, the ego and the pride and the

(09:29):
arrogance and the hostility andthe ungodly fear and the murder
and the lust and the drunkennessand the blasphemy, all of that
which comes out of the fleshcomes out of the flesh, comes
out of the flesh and you know itin your life.
You know the way your fleshexpresses itself in your life.

(09:54):
You know if you're prone to lie.
You know if you're prone to thelust of the flesh.
You know if you're prone toavarice and greed.
You know if you've got an egoproblem.
If you've got a pride, you knowhow it comes out.
If you've got a murderous sortof temper, you know how it comes

(10:20):
out.
But Paul, a man who is inChrist, a man who has met the
Lord, a man who has encounteredthe Lord, a man who has been
born again, a man who has beenborn again, a man who has been
spirit-filled, he is saying andrejoicing I am crucified with
Christ.
Nevertheless, I live Becauseyour personal, private and

(10:44):
public sin does deserve death.
In the eyes of God, the onlyjudge who truly matters, your
sin deserves death.
God knows that your sindeserves death, hallelujah.
Oh.
In the old days, under the law,it deserved death.
Folks would sacrifice bulls, folks would sacrifice goats.

(11:09):
Folks would sacrifice lambs, folks would sacrifice doves.
So folks would sacrifice rams.
There were drink offerings.
There were all sorts ofofferings, given, given, given
all sorts of offerings.
Sin deserved death back then.

(11:32):
Sin deserves death now.
That hasn't changed.
But my friend Jesus Christ.
He died that you might live.
He died that you might live.
I am crucified with Christ, oh,my friend, jesus Christ, he was

(11:55):
crucified for me and I amcrucified with him.
Nevertheless, I live Yet.
Not I and my friend.
This is something only the Lord, god Almighty, can do.
This is why every salvation isa miracle.
Nevertheless, I live yet.
Not I, but Christ liveth in me.

(12:19):
The very Spirit of Christ, thevery Holy Ghost lives in me
Because, my friend, at everysalvation, oh, there's life and
there's celebration, and there'snewness of life, and the
eternal life is given and a very, very holy, you might call it.

(12:42):
A transaction takes place, butbefore that life, there's a
death.
The crucifixion of Christ isapplied to you, the death of
Christ is applied to you.
That is, you know, you die withChrist on the cross, oh, my

(13:03):
friend, and you are risen withChrist.
Christ rose again first, sothat every man, woman and child
who believes on him, we arerisen with him.
And the life which I now livein the flesh, I live by the
faith of son of God, who lovedme and gave himself for me.

(13:27):
So, my friend, we don't live.
We live in the flesh, but wedon't live through the flesh.
That's a good way to say it.
The flesh is crucified.
We can go to the book of Romansfor that too.
We reckon ourselves to be deadto sin.
Dead to sin Because our sin wasanswered for by what Jesus

(13:50):
Christ did on that cross.
So we are dead to sin.
Jesus Christ died.
Once we are dead to sin and weare risen with Jesus Christ,
we're dead to sin, we're notalive to sin.
Oh, we used to be under thebondage.
We used to be under the weight.
We used to be under the bondage.
We used to be under the weight.

(14:11):
We used to be under theconsequence.
We used to be under theheaviness.
We used to be under the torment.
We used to be under the guilt.
We used to be under sin.
We were slaves to sin, but wedied, and a dead slave is no
longer a slave.

(14:31):
We died the death of Christ.
We share in it and, oh, myfriend, we also share in the
resurrection.
We're dead to sin.
Sin satisfied, sin's done.
In the eyes of God, sin isanswered for.
Sin satisfied sin's done.

(14:52):
In the eyes of God, sin isanswered for, and in the eyes of
God, oh, sin is no longerremembered.
If you're in Christ.
Today, your sin is no longerremembered by God.
God forgot it.
Oh, it's in the depths of thesea.
It's separated from you as faras the east is from the west.

(15:18):
In the eyes of God, it's likeit never happened.
It's like you never were a liar, you never were a murderer, you
never were a thief, you neverdid blaspheme the lord, you
never.
You never were a drunk, younever were a drug user, you
never were.
Uh, you know, uh, whateveryears, however, your sin came

(15:41):
out.
Lust of the flesh, lust of theeyes, pride of life everybody
has some combination of those inthe way it comes out.
But the point is it's over andit's forgotten.
If you're in Christ, the oldslave to sin died, and the life

(16:04):
which you live now, you live itin the flesh, but not through
the flesh.
You live by faith in the Son ofGod, who loved me and gave
himself for me, verse 21.
I do not frustrate the grace ofGod, for if righteousness came

(16:24):
by the law, then Christ is deadin vain.
Oh, all those sacrifices, everything that the Lord gave
Moses, that we have recorded, everything, so many instances in
the law and in the prophets.
Oh, they look forward to aMessiah.

(16:44):
They look forward to Jesus.
They didn't see him yet intheir day, but they knew that
the Lord was coming.
They knew that the Messiah wascoming and they knew that the
Messiah was going to take careof the sin and the Messiah was
going to fulfill the law andbless God.
Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
The Lord made flesh.

(17:05):
The Lord himself took on fleshand he walked among among us and
he fulfilled his own law.
He supplied his own blood, helaid down his own life.
My friend, it's finished.
My friend, it's finished.

(17:26):
To go back to verse 20, theflesh you know the life which I
now live.
That's present tense.
In the flesh, I live by thefaith of the Son of God, who
loved me and gave himself for me.
Christ lives in me, that Christliving in me, that's just
simple present tense.
My friend, don't be a slave toyour past, don't be a slave to

(17:51):
your old sin, because the bloodof Christ answers it all.
The blood of Christ covers itall.
The blood of Christ, you'recompletely, utterly forgiven and
you are purged from your oldsins.
You can flip on over to thebook of Hebrews and see that you

(18:12):
are purged from sin and that'ssomething that the law couldn't
do, but it's something thatChrist does for every man, woman
and child who believes on him.
And, my friend, if you're yet inyour sin, because it's one of
the most terrible traps of theenemy to continually try through
your own work, through your owneffort, to make your sin okay,

(18:36):
to make your sin go away, tomake your sin somehow atone for
it by yourself.
But, my friend, a lot ofBaptists call it rededication.
You go to church and you go tochurch and you go to church and
everything seems good, and thenyou fall away for a while and

(18:57):
then you come back and yourededicate yourself and go to
church and go to church and goto church and do your devotions,
do your devotions, do yourdevotions, give your tithe, give
your tithe, give your tithe, give your work, give your work,
give you work.
Then you fall away again, andsometimes it's for a few years,
and then you come back and yourededicate it.

(19:18):
My friend, that's not a biblicalthing, that's something that
men came up with, that's notsomething that God gave us.
Something that God gave us.
And, my friends, the realdanger of that is that people

(19:39):
tend to believe that salvationand the Christian life is what
we do, and that's not biblical.
That's not biblical and it's avery, very, very dangerous
doctrine.
And if you're caught up in that,I want you to hear something.
I want you to hear something inlove.

(19:59):
I want you to hear a call tolife.
I want you to hear a call to beborn again and be saved,
because Jesus Christ went to across.
Jesus Christ laid down his life.
Jesus Christ became sin.
Jesus Christ laid down his life.
Jesus Christ became sin.
Jesus Christ shed his blood.
Jesus Christ said it isfinished.
Jesus Christ said thatsalvation is by grace and

(20:23):
through faith, not of works, lest any man should boast.
And, my friend, the instant youbelieve in Jesusesus christ, he
does a marvelous work in yourlife.
And so, my friend, are youseeing that you're in your sin?
Maybe you've done a lot ofreligious work, but you're yet

(20:44):
in your sin.
My friend, I was there too, andthe lord plucked me out, and
the lord showed that to me.
My friend, I was there too andthe Lord plucked me out, and the
Lord showed that to me.
And maybe he's showing that toyou today too, by the
foolishness of preaching, bythis message.
The Lord's showing you that andyou go to church all the time,

(21:07):
you read your Bible and you giveyour money and you do your work
, and maybe you're even in aplace of ministry, in a place of
leadership, but, my friend, atthe end of the day, you're yet
in your sin.
You've got a lust that no amountof work, no amount of
dedication or rededication canever deal with, no amount of

(21:28):
reading and memorization, noamount of personal discipline
and effort.
It's always there and if youlet your guard down for a minute
, it just rips out of you.
That lust comes out, thattemper comes out, that pride
comes out, that ego comes out.
My friend, that's a religiousbondage and a religious torment

(21:50):
that God doesn't want you to bein.
Hallelujah, will you believe onthe name of Jesus Christ,
because he said it is finished.
My friend, I went to a cross foryou.
I became your sin.
I laid down my life and shed myblood for you.
My life and shed my blood foryou, because no law, even the

(22:20):
law that I gave, even the lawthat I gave to Moses for the
people of Israel, even the lawthat came directly from me, says
a holy God to you.
The law that came from me wasnever designed.
It was designed to bring peopleto Jesus.
It was not designed to utterlycompletely deal with sin.

(22:42):
It was designed to bring peopleto me.
It was designed to bring peopleto Jesus.
It was designed to show peoplethat sin comes out, to show
people that sin has a deadlyconsequence, to show people that
sin requires sacrifice and sinrequires death and sin requires

(23:05):
blood.
It was designed to bring peopleto me because I gave my only
begotten son as my sacrificiallamb on your behalf, to do what
you could never do and what thelaw was never designed to do To

(23:26):
take away your sin, to give youa new life, to give you a new
heart, to give you the mind ofChrist, to write my law on the
inside, not on tables of stone, not in books, but in your heart.

(23:48):
That's something I do.
That's not something you do,that's something you receive and
that's something you do.
That's something you receiveand that's something you live in
and you walk in, but that's notsomething that you do.
Oh, my friend, be born againand be saved today, and if

(24:08):
that's what the Lord's callingyou to, that's what the Lord's
drawing you to, I want you tovery simply call upon Jesus,
call upon the name of the Lord.
Let the belief, let the yesthat's in your heart come out
into some words and ask him tobe born again, right this very

(24:30):
minute.
Hallelujah and church.
I pray that you're encouragedby this, that you're built up by
this, because God has no memoryof your sin and there's no
reason for you to be in bondageto sin anymore.
You've been adopted.

(24:51):
You've been made a rightfulheir of Christ.
You've been made a king and apriest, and a saint and a
beloved child of the king.
You're a bondservant to Christ.
You're no longer a slave to sin.
So, my friends, cleave to theLord.
Love the Lord, worship the Lord.

(25:15):
Hallelujah, amen.
I pray that this be anencouragement to you and my
friend.
