Desperate circumstances have a way of driving us straight to Jesus. In Mark 5, we meet Jairus – a synagogue leader whose beloved 12-year-old daughter lies dying. His position, knowledge, and resources prove worthless against death's approach, so he does the unthinkable: he throws himself at Jesus' feet in total surrender.

As Jesus agrees to help, the crowd presses in from all sides. Suddenly, everything stops. A woman with a 12-year blood condition has touched Jesus' garment and been instantly healed. While this interruption might seem cruel considering Jairus' urgency, it serves a profound purpose. Before Jairus faces the devastating news that his daughter has died, he witnesses firsthand Jesus' power over incurable conditions.

When messengers arrive with the worst news a parent could hear, Jesus immediately counters: "Don't be afraid, only believe." Upon reaching the house, professional mourners create chaos with their wailing. Jesus declares the girl is merely sleeping, not dead – and is met with scornful laughter. After removing the skeptics, Jesus takes the girl by the hand and speaks seven world-changing words: "Little girl, I say to you, arise."

This story transcends its historical context to speak directly to our spiritual condition. Many of us are walking in spiritual death – separated from God and manifesting symptoms like pride, despair, hatred, or addiction. The noise of competing voices drowns out the simple truth: Jesus offers resurrection power to dead souls. Just as He counted the parents' faith sufficient for their daughter's physical resurrection, He extends His hand to us now.

Jesus' invitation remains open: "Don't be afraid, only believe." Contact us at gbtministries.com to share your story or request prayer as you begin your journey from spiritual death to new life in Christ.

And we're going to be in Mark, chapter 5, this evening, and
we're going to start in verse 21.
And I want you to keep a simplething in mind as we walk

(01:33):
through this account it's thegoodness of God that leadeth you
to repentance.
It's the goodness of God thatleads you to turn from yourself
and from the world and from yourcircumstances, to turn to him
and to hear what he has to sayand to receive what he has to

(01:56):
give.
And, my friend, I hope you'regoing to see by the end of
tonight that this is an account,it's not just a story.
And I want you to see yourselfin this.
And we're going to walk throughthis very, very slowly.
We're going to walk throughthis from the perspective of a
desperate father.
And let's start in verse 21.

(02:20):
Let's read a few verses.
And when Jesus was passed overagain by ship to the other side,
much people gathered unto himand he was nigh unto the sea.
And behold, there cometh one ofthe rulers of the synagogue,
jairus by name, and when he sawhim, he fell at his feet and

(02:41):
besought him greatly, saying mylittle daughter lies at the
point of death.
And my friends, see this fromJairus' perspective.
He's got a little daughter andshe's 12 years old and this is

(03:09):
his little daughter.
This is a beloved daughter.
That word little that's very, very affectionate.
This is a beloved daughter andshe's on her deathbed.
And he hears of they regardedhim as a teacher.

(03:33):
They hear of Jesus and Jairus.
His knowledge isn't complete ofwho Jesus is and what Jesus is
about.
He's regarded him as a teacher,maybe implicitly believes he's
sent from God, but can't denythat.

(03:59):
He's heard that Jesus has donesome things.
He's heard that Jesus hashealed people.
He's heard that Jesus has castout devils.
Jesus is just coming fromacross the sea and the big focus
there was these two demoniacsand Jesus set them free.

(04:19):
Jesus has fed people, Jesus hasministered to people and word
has reached Jairus and Jairuslooks at his little daughter and
Jairus gets up and goes Amen.

(04:40):
He goes and sees the crowd andhe hears the crowd.
Maybe even before he sees itthere's this great crowd.
That must be where he is.
So he walks and walks and hepresses and he jostles.
You could forgive him if hepushed.
You could forgive him if heshoved.

(05:01):
He had to get to Jesus Becauseno one else could do anything
for his daughter.
If she wasn't getting better, she'd get worse the deathbed of
his daughter.
So he pushes and he pushes andhe pushes, and the noise, the

(05:21):
noise, the noise washing overhim.
This noise and noise and voiceand voice, and the press of
people, the press of a crowdthat's moving in on a central
point.
He pushes and he shoves and allof a sudden he breaks through,

(05:41):
he throws himself down.
My little daughter lies at thepoint of death.
Come, lay thy hands on her thatshe may be healed and she shall
live.

(06:01):
His knowledge wasn't perfect,live.
His knowledge wasn't perfect, but he obviously believed that
Jesus could do something.
Now he's asking him if he woulddo something.
And Jesus went with him.
Hey, they get up and Jesus wedon't know exactly what Jesus

(06:28):
said, but I imagine he saidsomething, but he went with him.
And this crowd is I want you toget a sense of the noise of a
sort of a rolling crowd andthey're all pressing, they're
pressing and they're pressing.

(06:49):
And Jairus looks around and hesees some young men and they're
trying to keep them back.
He may or may not know thatthose are his disciples.
And then they're thronging andthey're pressing him and this is
like a load, if you've everhauled anything and you put
something heavy in the back of atruck and you see the

(07:10):
suspension go down.
They're pressing Jesus and thenall of a sudden and maybe he
sees her, maybe he doesn't butall of a sudden Jesus stops and
he stops right in his tracks.

(07:30):
Another person had brokenthrough.
All of a sudden, jesus juststops everything and he raises
up his voice.
He had to raise it loud.
Who touched my clothes?
He said, who touched my clothes?

(07:52):
And all of a sudden, jairus,he's there watching this and
this woman comes forward.
He can tell that she's scared.
She's scared.
And maybe he knew this womanbecause this woman had a

(08:15):
condition, an issue of blood, and she was constantly unclean,
constantly unclean.
And if anyone had compassion onher, it was the type of

(08:35):
compassion that you have whereyou don't know what to do for
the person.
You just don't know what to dofor them.
You can't do anything.
You've seen other people tryand fail.
You've watched this woman spendeverything she had over a
decade, 12 years, the very sameyear that Jairus' daughter had

(08:59):
been born.
For 12 years this woman had hadthis issue and maybe it came on
small at first and it gotgreater and greater and greater,
but no one could do anythingfor her.
No, she was a certain woman.
She was here for Jairus andshe's here for you tonight.

(09:23):
Because Jairus, with all of hisworry, with all of his concern,
with all of the Maybe he wasfrustrated as well, with all the
emotion and the thoughts andthe desperation that would drive
a ruler of the synagogue.
Some people say he labored inthe Word there and others say he

(09:44):
was basically a deacon.
But he had a position in thissynagogue, whether he labored in
the Word, whether he took careof the physical needs.
He had a position and he hadrun to Jesus With all of the
physical needs.
He had a position and he hadrun to Jesus with all of the
frustration and anxiety andworry and concern and all of the

(10:05):
love, the real, passionate love, he had for his daughter.
And then all of a sudden, jesusstops and this woman comes
forward.
She touched him.
She did the unthinkable and shehad to touch a whole bunch of
other people to jostle and pushthrough this crowd.

(10:26):
This was unthinkable for asynagogue man.
She touched a rabbi.
Was the rabbi now unclean man?
She touched a rabbi.
Was the rabbi now unclean?
Were all these people nowunclean the thoughts that must

(10:47):
have raced through his head?
And the thoughts that racedthrough her head.
She was scared.
The Bible says she feared thewoman fearing and trembling in
verse 33, fearing and trembling, but knowing what was done in
her, she was terrified.
She did the unthinkable.

(11:08):
She pushed, shoved, ran toJesus.
But she knew that something wasdone.
She knew it.
She came and she fell downbefore him.
She told him all the truth.
I love that.
Told him all the truth.
Oh, how long were they there?
Was it 30 seconds?

(11:31):
Was it a few minutes?
What a woman poured out hertestimony.
And Jairus heard this.
And Jairus heard what Jesussaid Daughter, thy faith has
made thee whole.
Hallelujah, go in peace and bewhole of thy plague.

(11:58):
And what is going throughJairus' head?
Who is this man, who is thisrabbi, who is this young teacher
To say these things?
And yet, I can't deny it, hedid it right in front of me For

(12:21):
this woman, and while he yetspake.
Oh, my friend, the Lord knewwhat was coming and the Lord
knew what Jairus needed.
This was an encouragement forJairus, an encouragement for you
.
There came from the ruler ofthe synagogue's house, certain,
which said my daughter's dead.

(12:43):
My daughter is dead.
Why troublest thou the masterany further?
She's gone On from Jairus'point of view, whatever hope I

(13:04):
was welling up in him.
Scripture records that it wasfear now, but even in that
moment, I want you to look atwhere you are in life right now.
Are you desperate for Jesus?

(13:25):
Do you have a desperate humanneed that's pushing you to Jesus
?
Do you have a desperate humanneed that caused you to hear
this message tonight?
Jesus had a definite word forJairus, in the midst of the

(13:53):
worst news a father could everhear.
I want you to hear this tonight.
Jesus had a clear word for thisman.
In the middle of the tumult, inthe middle of the press, in the
middle of the noise, in themiddle of the fear, in the
middle of the frustration, inthe middle of the anxiety, jesus

(14:15):
had a clear word for this manand he said be not afraid, stop
fearing, only believe.
Stop fearing and believe, oh,my friend, not only for Jairus,

(14:41):
not only for this certain woman, but for you.
Stop fearing and believe.
Oh, this is a blessing to thoseinvolved, this is a blessing to
the certain woman and we'regoing to see.
It's a blessing to JairusHallelujah and amen.
But, my friend, this is writtenthat you might believe that

(15:03):
Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
This is written that you mightbelieve.
God did it for these people.
He'll do it for you.
This is written for you so thatyou might believe these things.
Do you see yourself here, pressing through the noise,

(15:27):
desperate to hear a word, desperate for a solution?
And maybe you've heard a fewthings about Jesus.
Maybe you've heard that somepeople say he died on a cross
and some people say that he'salive.
Maybe you've heard testimony ofJesus working in the lives of

(15:48):
other people around you.
I know you've come up againstsomething that you can't handle.
You've come up againstsomething that crushes you.
You've come up againstsomething that's this far from
breaking you, this far, and youcan't do a thing about it.

(16:12):
And it humbles you To the pointthat you're willing To hear
something.
It humbles you to the pointthat you're willing To listen To
what Jesus has to say.
Oh, if you're there tonight, asJesus turned to Jairus, he said

(16:33):
Don't be afraid, only believe.
Don't be afraid, only believe.
Don't be afraid, only tobelieve, Because he's the Lord
of all and he's able to takecare of you.

(16:54):
Now let's go a little further.
With that in mind, go from thegeneral to the specific.
Amen.
The procession went on and theyeventually got to the house and

(17:14):
Jesus, he, jesus suffered.
No man to follow him, nobodyfrom this big crowd could go in,
save Peter and James and John, the brother of James, and he
cometh to the house of the rulerof the synagogue and he seeth
the tumult and then the wept andwailed greatly.

(17:39):
Oh now, in that day, my friend, funerals weren't a quiet thing.
Grief was expressed loudly, grief was expressed outwardly.
People were really grieved, they would even tear their
clothes.
It was outward and maybe a fewof these people really knew this

(18:01):
girl and really loved this girl.
And this was real, but acustomary for high profile
funerals to have hired mournersand it was a storm, it was
chaotic, it was loud.
Jesus went from one loudsituation into another loud
situation and it was loud and itwas loud and it was loud.
Jesus went from one loudsituation into another loud
situation and it was loud and itwas loud and it was loud and it

(18:22):
was weeping and it was wailingand it was crying and it was
grieving and it was shouting.
And when he was come in.
Oh, and he had to raise hisvoice again.
I bet, why make you this ado?
Why do you make this noise?
Why do you make this noise?
Why do you make this chaos?
Why do you make?
Why weep?

(18:44):
The damsel is not dead, butsleepeth.
And look how they reacted.
They laughed him to scorn.
They all turned to him and theyreacted.
They laughed them to scorn.
They all turned to him and theylaughed.
They all turned to him and theymocked him.

(19:06):
And that's all the Bible reallyhas to say about it.
When he put them all, jesus putthem all outside.
You see, he'd spoken.
He walked into the storm, hewalked in to the wailing and the

(19:27):
weeping, he walked into theperformance that many of them
were doing.
He walked into the situationand all he did was speak.
And he spoke a word ofunparalleled hope, unparalleled
living hope that where there wasa death, there wasn't really a

(19:50):
death anymore.
Because, though, she had died, that's true, but at this point
she was raised from the dead, she was alive.
And Jesus said that oh, myfriend, how do you respond to

(20:12):
him even now?
Because Jesus wants to getbeyond your situation.
Jesus wants to get beyond yoursituation, jesus wants to get
beyond your circumstances.
Jesus wants to get beyond whereyou are in life.
Go and get down to the specific.
You and him.
See, all of this was done.
This woman was healed.

(20:32):
She had a blood impurity, shehad a blood condition and she
was healed.
She had a blood impurity, shehad a blood condition and she
was healed.
Her blood Made her unclean.
But Jesus' blood.
Look forward to Jesus' blood.
Look forward to the cross.

(20:53):
What is his blood able to do?
His blood is able to make thefoulest Clean, even the worst of
the worst, even the worst ofthe worst of the worst of the
worst.
His blood is able to make itclean.
His blood is able to make youclean.
And oh, this young woman.
We've got to skip ahead alittle bit.

(21:14):
He goes into the room, he takesher by the hand.
The disciples are there, andalso Jairus and his wife.
Oh, my friend, jesus countedhis faith for hers.
Hallelujah.
And he brought the dad and themom in and he took her by the

(21:34):
hand.
Hallelujah.
And he said damsel, I say untothee arise.
And straightway the damsel rose.
Straightway she rose and shewalked, for she was of the age
of 12 years.
They were astonished.

(21:56):
The damsel herself had to beastonished, father and mother
astonished, with a greatastonishment.
Oh, my friend, you'respiritually dead tonight.
Spiritually, you're on yourdeathbed.

(22:18):
You're apart from God and leftin your sin.
And this damsel was raised upfor you to show you what the
Lord can do physically.
And, my friend, I appreciatethat blessing every day.

(22:42):
My wife was younger than 12,but she was also on her deathbed
, and the Lord also rose her up.
And, my friend, inside you, though, there's a dead spirit.
There's a dead spirit, there'sa dead soul.

(23:06):
You're dead in your sin.
The Bible tells us that.
Dead in your sin, on yourdeathbed, marching and marching
and marching, moment by momentby moment, into eternity, with
the wrath of God hanging overyour head, and all the

(23:28):
hopelessness that surroundedthis damsel situation, all the
hopelessness that surroundedthat certain woman's situation
who had that condition.
Oh, you may have some physicalcircumstances, but, my friend,
let's talk about your soul andwhat the Lord is able to do for

(23:50):
your soul tonight.
He's the resurrection and thelife, and whosoever believes in
him, my friend, he'll pull youup out of your deathbed.
He'll pull you up out of yourdeath.
He'll pull you up out of yourhatred, out of your fornication,

(24:13):
out of your adultery, out ofyour drunkenness, out of your
blasphemy, out of your pride, out of your arrogance, because
all of those are just symptoms, but the real cause of it is
death.
The real cause of it.
You're separated from God, andso the fornication comes out.

(24:35):
You're separated from God, andso the despair comes out.
You're separated from God, andso the pride comes out.
So the despair comes out.
You're separated from God andso the pride comes out.
You're separated from God, andso the blasphemy and the ego and
all the rest, and the murdereven, it comes out.
It comes out, it comes out andyou can't do a thing about it.

(24:58):
And oh, you've got all thisnoise around you.
You've got all this noisearound you.
You've got all these voicesaround you.
You've got teacher afterteacher after teacher, you've
got friend after friend afterfriend, and they all have their
different explanations.
And oh, maybe you try, but theyfail.

(25:24):
Is yours a desperate hearttonight?
Are you desperate for a changein your life?
Are you desperate and you don'tknow how to put it exactly?
You're like Jairus, you're likethis woman All you know about

(25:48):
Jesus is that he can help you.
You don't know how, you don'tknow what it looks like, but you
want it.
Oh hallelujah, my friend, jesusholds out his hand to you.
He says don't be afraid, onlybelieve, because whosoever

(26:12):
believeth in me, I will in noway cast you out.
Whosoever calls upon my namethis is what Jesus says, not me.
Whoever calls upon my name thisis what Jesus says, not me.
Whoever calls upon my name, Iwill save.
Whoever calls upon my nameshall be made new.
All of your old will pass away.

(26:34):
All things will become new, andthat includes whatever sin
torments you the most.
That includes your attitude, that includes your heart, that
includes your mind.
You are raised up from the to anew life in Jesus Christ.

(27:01):
Oh, my friend, these arewritten that you may believe.
And do you see yourself in them?
Hallelujah, our musicians willcome forward this evening.
What's the Lord saying to youtonight?
And, more importantly, how areyou responding to him?

(27:23):
Because you'll find it with agreat degree of sobriety.
Those who laughed and scornedJesus put them out, and they
weren't present when he worked amiracle in this young woman's
life.
And, my friend, if you laughand scorn Jesus, that's you in

(27:52):
this account.
You're put out.
If you laugh him and scorn him.
He makes such an entrance toyou Before his father.
There's an entrance waiting foryou.
There's a glory waiting for you.
There's a welcome waiting foryou.

(28:13):
There's salvation waiting foryou.
Call upon his name tonight.
If you're here, these folks aregoing to play behind me.
I want you to simply comeforward.
I'd be glad to pray.
Be glad to pray with you to besaved.
Amen.
And those who are far away onthe other side of that camera.
My friend, I want you to talkto Jesus.

(28:38):
I want you to say I believe you.
I want you to say I trust you.
I want you to say I want you tobe my Lord and my God and I
want you to apply your blood tome.
I want to be saved.
I want to be made new.
Let that faith come up intosome words.

(29:00):
Talk to him.
Amen, my friend.
We want to hear about it.
We want to know about it.
We want to know you.
We want to know what the Lord'sdone.
We want to know your testimony.
We want to know how to pray foryou.
We want to be an ongoingministry to you.
I want you to come and visit usin person.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
