One of the most frustratingfeelings to me is when I feel
stuck in place.
You know that feeling when youwant to make big changes, but
there are factors in place thatare making you feel like your
feet are glued to the floor, like you're living in the movie
Groundhog Day.
That feeling is what I'mtalking about.

(01:48):
You know you're all excitedabout a reinvention plan.
You've thought up, or maybeyou've thought of, something new
that you want to try, andyou've thought of all the
possibilities and started tomake some serious considerations
about how to make things happen.
And then, bam, you get stuck.
Getting stuck sucks.
Yeah, it's a nice little rhyme, right, but seriously, it isn't
good to feel like you can't moveforward, and it really isn't

(02:08):
cool when it's your fault.
Yes, I went there.
Getting stuck is all on you, myfriend, but I'm here to help
you get unstuck.
Your life is not meant to be onautopilot.
Let's talk about what causeswell-intentioned people to get
stuck and what you can do aboutit when it happens to you on
your journey.
As an added bonus, I'm going toshare winning quotes from
everyone's old friend, rockyBalboa, to help emphasize some

(02:31):
of the points I share with you.
Let's begin with getting in yourhead.
Getting in your head and secondguessing yourself is one of the
top ways to get stuck.
Reinvention is hard, but itdoesn't have to be that hard.
When you think of the wholepicture all at once, it can be
overwhelming.
When you think of one step at atime, it can become manageable.
Trying not to overthink isreally important.
When you feel yourself start tospiral, it can lead to inertia,

(02:52):
and inertia is the enemy ofreinvention.
If I get in my head too much, the first thing I do believe it
or not is I sit down and I makea list.
Now, this might not be foreveryone, but this is something
that works for me, so I'm goingto share it.
Just making a list makes mefeel like I'm doing something,
and once I make the list, I goback and I break down each
component of the list withaction steps.
If I'm really in my head, Iwill start with the first one or

(03:15):
two items.
I don't even force myself to dothe whole list, because
sometimes that just feels liketoo much homework.
Then, when I get those done, Ihave at least a few action steps
to work on.
Working on even one action stepcan help you get out of your
head and back in the game.
I encourage you to try this.
You'd be surprised at how wellit works.
As Rocky Balboa said, one stepat a time, one punch at a time,

(03:35):
one round at a time.
Another thing that can get youstuck is finances and, let's
face it, this is a real concernfor a lot of people.
If you're not independentlywealthy, have rich parents or a
trust fund, you're likelyworking to keep a roof over your
head, a car in your driveway, the heat turned on in your home,
things like that.
It's so easy to make the excusethat you can't change anything.
Because what if you don't haveenough money to live?

(03:56):
I'm not here to lie to you.
That is reality, and it's thereality for most reinvention
journeys.
So how do you get the moneyexcuse to not be a viable excuse
?
Well, it's about a mindsetshift rather than an actual
money shift.
For the average person, therewill never be enough time or
money.
But you're not average, are you?
I don't think you are, andreinvention is one of those

(04:16):
things that you have to reallywant to do.
So there are ways to get out ofthe money excuse.
Maybe work a side job brieflyto help build up the coffers a
little bit so you feel a littlebit more secure.
That's one step that'stemporary, that can help
kickstart your reinvention.
Or maybe wake up earlier so youhave a little more time to work
on some aspect of your plan, orstay up later or go out a
little less to save time andmoney to put towards your

(04:37):
journey.
You've got to really want this, and if you really want it, you
can change your mindset to seepast your excuse and onto the
next part of your journey.
Next up is the instantgratification excuse.
Reinvention is hard, tryingsomething new is hard, but at
the risk of more platitudes, nothing worth it is ever really
easy.
Expecting your journey to bequick and painless and then

(04:58):
realizing it won't be can getyou stuck.
Just because it isn't easydoesn't mean you shouldn't do it
, though.
When you feel stuck because youhit a wall or a roadblock, just
take a brief, finite amount oftime to process and regroup.
Then pivot the heck out of thatmess and try something
different to keep moving forward.
There are always going to bedifficult parts to these types
of journeys.
As Rocky Balboa once said, itain't about how hard you hit,

(05:21):
it's about how hard you can hitand keep moving forward.
How much you can take and keepmoving forward.
That's how winning is done.
Another thing people get stuckon is the fear excuse.
You know the definition ofcourage is acting not in the
absence of fear, but in spite offear.
There are a lot of things to beafraid of.
Fear can really weasel its wayinto the best reinvention plans

(05:42):
and bring them to a screechinghalt.
But remember nothing changes ifnothing changes.
I know it's scary, but I alsoknow you do not want fear to
stop your journey.
So what do you do about it?
Talk to other people who havebeen on a reinvention journey.
Listen to podcasts like thisone to help you get outside of
your head.
Read about the ways otherpeople navigated their own

(06:02):
reinventions.
Look for inspiration and notways to be afraid.
Just don't sit and dwell on oneaspect of this journey Fear is
there and it isn't all bad.
Fear can make you moreconscientious and help keep you
on track sometimes.
Just don't let fear keep youstuck in one place, as Rocky
Balboa said.
I think you try harder whenyou're scared.

(06:23):
Next up is the stuff excuse.
Another way to get stuck is tothink that, in order to pursue
whatever you want to pursue aspart of your reinvention journey
, you think that you need to beable to buy all the stuff needed
to do what you want to do.
And if you can't get all thestuff, you put your journey on
hold until you can, and thennothing gets done and eventually
you are living on autopilot.
An example you want to start apodcast, but someone told you

(06:46):
you need a really greatmicrophone and a sound board and
a booth set up in your home.
You can't afford all thosethings, so you make a list and
then you get caught up in otherthings.
The reality is you don'tactually need that expensive
microphone and you can podcastwithout a sound board.
It's important to give yourselfa wish list and then a reality
check Are the items need tohaves or are they nice to haves?
Know how to differentiatebetween the two so you don't

(07:09):
stop your journey for reasonsthat aren't even reality the
other people excuse.
It's easy to get stuck when youhave thoughts in your head and
then others start to give youtheir worst case scenarios for
your journey.
This is really dangerousbecause you need to be able to
view your journey through yourown lens and not the lenses of
other people.
Your journey is your own.
It's a personal one.
I'm not saying that you can'task trusted people in your life

(07:30):
for their insights or feedback, but you have to trust yourself
and your gut instincts to moveforward the way that you see fit
.
If what you feel differs fromwhat others say, you need to
have the confidence to moveforward anyway.
That can be tricky.
The bottom line for this one istrust Trusting others, but
ultimately trusting yourself themost and moving forward in a
way that you believe is rightfor you.
I'm going to share another RockyBalboa quote here.

(07:52):
I stopped thinking the wayother people think a long time
ago.
You got to think like you think.
The most important question inall of this is what are your
dreams worth to you?
Hopefully this has given yousome insight into excuse
pitfalls to look for on yourjourney.
Yes, getting stuck happens.
It's actually very common.
Knowing what could happen andhow to work around it
productively will help you stayon your path to reinvention.

(08:13):
That path is yours and yoursalone.
Every reinvention is a uniqueone.
Really, everyone's path in lifeis a unique one.
Find inspiration that keeps youmoving.
The bottom line of all of thisis that any excuse is an excuse
if you allow yourself to gothere.
So don't Like seriously.
Do not allow yourself to makeexcuses to halt your journey.
Give yourself grace throughoutthe process, but at no point

(08:36):
should you allow yourself topermanently stop a journey you
really want to be on.
Just put one foot in front ofthe other and keep stepping
forward, and soon you'll bewalking closer to your goal than
you ever thought possible.
Thank you for listening Untilnext time.
